McDonald s Case Study Essay
McDonald s Case Study
As organizations seeks ways to increase profits by filtering into international markets, many turn to
the field of public relations as a way of reaching cross cultural markets. Factors such as values,
cultural differences, language barriers, beliefs, etc #8230;in order to successfully promote an
organization s products and services. Public relations practitioners have the responsibility to be the

The final stage is the active stage recognizes the problem and organizes something to do about it.
According to J.E. Grunig and Hunt (1984) the idea is to communicate with an aware public before it
actively opposes an organization, thus becoming an activist public.
London Greenpeace is an activist group with 3.3 million members in over 22 countries that use highly
visible actions to draw media attention to environmental problems. The London Greenpeace group, a
division of Greenpeace, is an independent group of activists that has no involvement in any political
party. This group meets weekly to share concern for the oppression in our lives and the destruction of
our environment. Anderson (1992) cited that weaknesses in most case studies of activism is that
similar case studies should be conducted that examine activism from the perspective of both the
organizations and of the activists groups, which is applicable to this study of the McLibel case. In my
research, I came across must more literature and disseminated information from the small activist
group of London Greenpeace versus the large multi national corporation of McDonald s. This study
also points to the need of more studies that examine the special problems of international
communication. The actions of a McDonald s triggered activist conflict not only in London, but in
other different countries as well.

Public Housing Policy in Singapore
1 INTRODUCTION
The Singapore public housing policy since its establishment has proved to provide shelter for the
population and has contributed significantly to the economic, social and political development of
Singapore. This policy has been the benchmark for the best public housing by other countries notably
China and Hong Kong (Yang, 2010; Wong, 2011).
The public housing policy implementation has been spearheaded by Housing and Development Board
(HDB) to tackle post war economic problems such as rapid population growth, high unemployment
rate and a critical shortage of sanitary housing (HDB, 2014). The policy was also aimed to mitigate
social problems such as riots and strikes among the different ethnic groups (HDB, 2014).
The success story of public housing policy implementation lies in the higher economic growth and
social stability of Singapore. Economic growth saw 82% of the population live in 879,000 HDB flats
located across 23 towns and estates with home ownership rate at 95% high (Department of Statistics,
2014). In terms of social stability, the policy implementation has freed Singapore from race riot since
1969 (Department of Statistics, 2014).
However, rising issues and concerns of ageing population, income disparity and higher housing price
have destabilized Singapore s public housing policy (Population White Paper, 2013). In light of these
challenges, new measures and directions have to be introduced by the Government to keep public
housing policy relevant

Meals to Eat during an Event
Meals the day BEFORE the event
The meals the day before the event would normally consist of consuming a lot of carbohydrates, as
well as other vitamin, minerals, proteins etc. but mostly carbohydrates, this is also known as
Carbohydrate Loading or just Carb Loading . Carb Loading is essential as all it is, is storing energy
therefore, using it all up for the day after which also makes you last longer, especially when it s an all
day event such as my chosen sport. Carb Loading has been demonstrated to improve endurance
exercise by allowing athletes to exercise at their optimal pace for a longer time. It is estimated that
carb loading can improve your performance over a set distance by 2 3%

Joseph Henry Essays
Joseph Henry
Joseph Henry lived from 1797 to 1878. Of Scottish decent, Henry was a son of a day laborer in
Albany, New York. He was sent to live with his grandmother as a small boy in a village about 40 miles
from Albany. At the age of thirteen, be became apprenticed to a watchmaker. He then became
interested in theatre and was offered employment as a professional actor, but instead he attended
Albany Academy where he was provided with free tuition. He has always been interested in science
and by 1823 his education was very far advanced that he was assisting the teaching of science courses.

If a current is flowing, self inductance tends to keep it from building up. Henry found that self
inductance is greatly affected by the configuration of the circuit, especially the coiling of the wire. He
also discovered how to make non inductive windings by folding the wire back on itself.
At the same time Henry was doing all this, another physicist, Michael Faraday was doing similar work
in England. Henry was slow in publishing his results and was unaware of Faraday s work, therefore
Faraday is recognized as the discoverer of mutual inductance, which is the basis of transformers, while
Henry is only accredited for the discovery of self inductance.
At the age of 35, Yale s geologist, Benjamin Silliman, was consulted regarding the possible
appointment of Henry to Princeton. Silliman s response was negative in saying that Henry has no
superior in our country, and Henry, who was modest, defended the fact that he never graduated any
colleges and he is principally self educated. Henry therefore got the job. His initial salary at Princeton
was $1,000 per annum plus a house. The Trustees also provided for $100 for the purchase of a new
electrical machine. At Princeton, Henry worked with his brother in law, Stephen Alexander, in the
observation of sunspots and continued his own

Asians And Asian American Culture
This class helped me realize how ignorant I really was about the Asian American culture as well as the
Native American culture. I generally believed that I was more culturally sound than I actually am. I
believed that I knew more about these cultures than I really did and was shocked to realize that I fed
into some of the stereotypes. I knew that Asian Americans did well academically because their parents
valued education and had them study more than their peers, however I did not realize that culturally
boys were expected to succeed more academically than girls were. I believed that girls were equally
held up to a standard as boys were. Watching the film clips related to Asians and Asian Americans was
an eye opening experience. Just as African Americans are told that their natural hair is not good
enough and it is internalized, it appears it is the same for many Asian Americans in relation to their
eyes. The film clip about the young girl being taken to have plastic surgery on her eyes at the age of
12 because she felt that she would be more beautiful was a heart breaking scene to watch. It never
occurred to me that a feature that is specific to that particular group would become something that has
almost become shameful to a lot of people. To have an eye surgery is a serious decision one has to
make and for that little girl to be so sure that she wants her eyes operated on at 12 years old was
something that I could relate to, but not understand. I also did not realize

The Google Android Operating System
The Google Android Operating System To fully understand the Google Android operating system, you
must look back beyond the development of the very first version of the Android OS. In 1999, former
manufacturing engineer at Apple, Andy Rubin, joined with two other men, Matt Hershenson and Joe
Britt, to found Danger Inc. The company aimed to provide hardware and software for mobile devices.
Their most notable device was the T Mobile Sidekick. The company spearheaded the idea of a client
server model and is credited with the creation of the App Marketplace. Danger Inc. was sold in 2008
to Microsoft, but the idea of the Android OS was brewing several years before this. In 2003, Rubin
made the decision to leave Danger Inc. to work on Android. For several years, Rubin funded his ideas
out of pocket and did not produce any new products. His aim was similar to that of Danger s to
revolutionize smartphone software and open source development of ideas previously started by
Danger. Android came from Linux, but has since become an independent operating system.
2005 came around and Android had still not put out its first product. Rubin s focus was on web
connected experiences and to create an environment where developers could apply their skills. This
new idea attracted investors, namely Google. Google was interested in staying competitive with the
big companies in the smartphone market at the time Blackberry and Microsoft. The idea that sparked
Google s interest was the open source

Combating Rampant Corruption Of Italy
The Law
In November 2012, the Italian Chamber of Deputies passed Anti Corruption Law 190 for the purpose
of combatting rampant corruption in Italy. The law established the Commissione Nazionale per la
Valutazione, la Trasparenza e l Integrità delle Amministrazioni Pubbliche as the anti corruption
authority in Italy. The law and authority go hand in hand.
Purpose
This national anticorruption authority (CIVIT) was tasked with implementing and overseeing
standards on public officials to prevent corruption. The authority was also constructed to ensure that
public officials would comply with all initiatives and guidelines set by the authority. It was also to
determine the causes of public sector corruption and the necessary steps to fix consistent problems. It
also needed to cooperate with international anti corruption bodies and report to parliament on the
effectiveness of its initiatives. It is held accountable for progress made in the fight in Italy s public
sector corruption.
Implementation
All public administrations are required to create an anti corruption plan and adopt a code of conduct
for employees to prevent corruption. A compliance officer is then placed to ensure that all guidelines
are followed and that the created plan was implemented. The officer also makes sure the plan
complied with the authority. If the plan was not respected by employees, it would lead to sanctions
and further disciplinary actions.

K Naan Immigrants
What do we Americans know about immigrants and their place in the United States? When I think
about this subject, I remember these lines from K naan s feature song titled, Immigrants, (We Get the

crossing a border with thrifty supplies. All you got to do is see the world with new eyes. The Somali
Canadian poet K naan, sends a message signaling to American people that despite multi cultural
influences, the collective American culture lives and breathes on ancient, unfounded societal ideals.

Formal Diagnostic Analysis
Classification of mental disorders keeps improving and changing over time with the goal of providing
more accurate diagnosis and proper intervention. As guides for clinician, the formal Diagnostic
Statistical Manual has categorical description of a variety of illnesses that are classified based on
symptoms (Kite, Gullifer Tyson, 2012). Recently, the new version of the DSM raises many
controversies since it suggests merging Asperger syndrome into the category of autism disorder to
reduce confusion and therefore eliminating their differentiation. Their common diagnosis would now
include early delayed linguistic and cognitive development which is only the case for autism but not
for Asperger. For some researchers this slight difference create ... Show more content on

The disorder may manifest differently but they presumably have the same biological basis (Frith,

indistinguishable to individual with Asperger to the point that it is difficult to view them separately.
High functioning autism in adulthood without delay in language development is similar to adult who
previously diagnosed with autism and delayed language development. A study analyzing neuro
anatomic structure of the brain finds out that autism and Asperger could be cause by abnormalities in
mini columnar organization and suggests that they may share similar biological pattern regardless the
intelligence. Individuals suffering from autism or Asperger have smaller mini columns in brain and
more dispersed cells than normal functioning individuals. Given this clinical overlap between the two
disorders, it is difficult to tell them apart. Studies support their genetic and neurobiological similarities

analysis and compare the visual aspects of the Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) and the earlier
Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) about their similarities and differences that extend across time.
Along with the two kraters we will also discuss the quality of St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts
environment. The St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts stands out from its surrounding with is

The size of the krater being the second largest artwork, at approximately thirty inches, in the room
helps it stand out from other pieces, but is still eclipsed by the Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) at
approximately forty two inches. Size is not the only thing both kraters share that continued across
time, contrasting colors also prevails in both pieces. The Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE)
illustrating a white subject against a black background and the Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) with
black subjects and yellow or lighter background. Kraters themselves are known to be used to water
down wine, but with the funerary scenes on both kraters they would have been more likely used as
grave markers. The placement of the Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) being next to other
grave markers within the museum helps to exemplify this as well as the information label associated
to it. The use of visually encompassing the main figure persisted across time, but with slight
differences. In the Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) the main subject is surrounded by a
Naiskos , or funerary shrine, whereas the Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) the main subject is covered
or surrounded with burial cloth. Another visual aspect that both kraters have are figures on the
outsides showing respect towards the deceased. On both kraters the figures showing respect are
illustrated as women since in that era men were not to show emotions or attend the funeral. The Red
Figure Volute Krater shows this by the reddish brown figure how women were portrayed and the
Terracotta Krater by small marks indicating breast. Across the length of time, both kraters also have
other commonalities such as the main figure s nudity for their heroism or divinity and the inclusion of
spears and/or war

Research and Development and Financial Performance of UK...
Research and Development and Financial Performance of UK Manufacturing Firms
UK manufacturing firms have many factors which influence their financial performance. Research and
Development could be a key factor in determining a firms success, however it does not assure
financial improvement in all businesses due to the extensive variety of business types. Research and
Development can be defined as the scientific investigation necessary to discover new products and the
process of bringing these products onto the market. A manufacturing firm, which generally refers to a
business that makes or processes raw or semi processed materials into either a finished product or
further processed materials, by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Research and Development can also be used by small shops and retailers, by means of
questionnaires, staff suggestion boxes, feedback forms and market research etc.. This low amount of
Research and Development is typically normal, as small shops rely more on customer service, niche
markets, and reasonable quality and price products.
Research and Development can often be a very risky process, since much money can be spent on ideas
that will never be commercialised. In product oriented firms, such as manufacturing companies have
many factors which affect their financial performance. Research and Development is a useful way of
improving profits, if there is significant funding, to employ scientists and researchers to produce and
develop the most technically advanced products to date, which can then be marketed and turned into
cash cows or stars. Also Research and Development could develop new methods to produce existing
products, to lower average costs. However this depends on the skill of the scientists and researchers,
because despite how much money is pumped into the Research and Development department, without
ideas, invention and innovation the business will have no rewards. Furthermore, even if Research and
Development does
its job, this will be worthless if the manufacturing firm has too specialised equipment, which is unable
to be flexible enough to

Yellow Wallpaper Breakdown
The Yellow Wallpaper
The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is about how a woman progresses through a
nervous breakdown. The story is written in a first person narrative where the narrator is a unnamed
woman with mental health issues. She recently moved to a mansion with her husband, because he
believes that the residence is a great place for the narrator to recuperate from her mental illness.
However, the narrator s mental condition continues to get worse while living in the mansion as she
becomes more and more bothered by the wallpaper that is in her room. She ends up becoming
obsessed with the wallpaper and starts to imagine that the figures in the wallpaper are moving.
Towards the end of the story the narrator has a complete mental breakdown and goes insane. The story
ends when John, the narrator s husband, faints when he enters his wife s room, because he is greatly
disturbed when he finds her creeping around and becoming one of the figures behind the wallpaper.
The Yellow Wallpaper can be interpreted on a personal level by associating it with the author. Gilman
suffered from nervous breakdowns and depression because she was told to live a very plain life as best
as she could by a specialist in nervous diseases. She also was told to avoid using her imagination and

forms of excitement, companionship, and writing. John completely disregards his wife s opinions by
not allowing her to do anything that she thinks will do herself good because he believes that he knows

Headscarf Controversy
French media coverage of the headscarf controversy perpetuates considerable misunderstanding of
Islam and thus the politics of secularism extend to media framing of the tension between religious
minorities and the non religious in a society where secular is hegemonic. In 1989, in a small town

incapable academically, however, the event became significant to the reframing of the headscarf as a

Phonological Development Of Native Japanese Speakers Essay
Abstract
The current study looked at the phonological development of native Japanese speakers who speak
English as a second language. Two subjects were given a word list of English words to read from and
recorded. The recordings were then analyzed based on their divergence from English phonology. The
recordings were also shown to native English speakers to rate the foreign accent of the subjects. The
current study was conducted under the hypothesis that the speakers L1 would interfere with the
phonological development in their L2, and looked at other factors such as speakers attitude and
differences in natural ability.
Keywords: Japanese, English, Second Language Acquisition, Phonological Development
1. Introduction
Second language learners who begin to acquire a language later in life are often thought to have more
trouble with learning to pronounce the sounds of their second language than learners who began
second language acquisition early in life. In the Contrastive Analysis Hypothesis (CAH), the errors in
pronunciation are the result of transfer from the speaker s native language (L1) to their second
language (L2). However, other factors can account for the troubles second language learners encounter
in their pronunciation. Factors such as the positive or negative attitude towards the target language as
well as phonological memory can influence how well a learner acquires a language. As well,
perception of the sounds of the target language and the native

revealed his choice through the prophet Samuel who also anointed them both.

This paper reviews journal articles on plagiarism and explores the substance and context of academic
dishonesty, including self plagiarism, the nature of plagiarism and how it is perceived by students and
faculty. Moreover, how serious of a problem plagiarism really is and why students feel it necessary to
cheat. It researches the challenges presented by the huge quantity of information available over the
internet. This report also reviews faculty views on academic dishonesty and the many disagreements
surrounding what constitutes blatant plagiarism versus unintentional cheating. Also, which
disciplinary actions are in the highest degree appropriate. It is concluded that plagiarism is an ongoing
problem. Students cheat for many reasons, from lack of knowledge to laziness. It is likewise found
that faculty may share the same laze fair attitude as students when they rely on software alone to
investigate plagiarism. Surprisingly, some may choose not to evaluate or address the topic altogether
or even to assess what their pupils know so that they may prepare accordingly. This report will provide
suggestions to teach students how to avoid plagiarism. It will also propose constructive strategies for
the prevention of piracy to include education along with faculty and student accountability. Keywords:

On March 28, 2017 President Donald Trump Issued An Executive
On March 28, 2017 President Donald Trump issued an Executive Order (EO) on Promoting Energy
Independence and Economic Growth. This report is a partial overview of the EO with a consideration
of the potential energy policy implications. While there are various programmes and policies affected
by the EO, this report will look at the implementation of the policy objectives and have a focus on the
reconsideration of the Clean Power Plan. Section 1 outlines several policy objectives. Generally, the
objectives of the EO are directed to promote clean and safe development of our Nation s vast energy
resources, while at the same time avoiding regulatory burdens that unnecessarily encumber energy
production, constrain economic growth, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the EO sets several deadlines: 45 days for relevant agencies to submit a plan to the
Director of the Office of Management and Budget; 120 days to submit a draft final report with
recommendations; and 180 days for the plans to be finalized. While the varying agencies are
interpreting the EO and reevaluating relevant policies, involvement is viable. Any party with an
interest in the continuation, modification, or cancellation of any policy included in the immediate
review should consider the opportunities to participate in this decision making process. Subsequently,
the varying agencies are directed to coordinate an effort to realize their recommendations and to
suspend, revise, or rescind, or publish for notice and comment proposed rules suspending, revising, or
rescinding, those actions, as appropriate and consistent with law. The effort to realize the
recommendations and reverse any burden identified should be consistent with the policy objectives
previously mentioned. Section 3 announced a rescission of certain energy and climate related
presidential and regulatory action. This disregard of the previous environmental policy may be
meaningful. To mention a few, this section rescinds a couple reports by President Obama. There was
the Climate Action Plan: June 2013 which was designed to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy
efficiency, and direct the EPA to advance the Clean Power Plan. Also, there was the Climate Action

Henri Matisse s Painting Comparison
These three famous paintings are going to be analyzed below, pointing their similarities and
differences. Henri Matisse was mostly known for his work during the Fauvism movement, Pablo
Picasso excelled during the Cubism movement and Paul Cezanne showed his talents through the Post
Impressionism movement.
Discussion
Matisse s painting shows a broad open field focusing on the bright landscape with a lot of nature and
the expression of sensuality and eroticism. The bodies in this painting are seemed graceful and curvy.
On the hand, Picasso used geometric forms and an illusion of depth to exhibit a more suggestive kind
of sensuality. In his painting, he did not use bright landscapes, but a closed and dark place that looks
crowded. The women illustrated are referenced as prostitutes from a brothel located in Avignon Street
in Barcelona. Both Matisse and Picasso illustrated a woman standing in the same position on the left
side of Matisse s painting and in the middle of Picasso s painting. They both have their elbows raised.
Paul Cezanne used structure, order and optical effects of color in his painting. The Large Bathers is ...

Matisse and Cezanne used landscape and sensuality. Picasso and Cezanne used similar colors of blue
and brown. Picasso differs his painting through the rude sensuality expressed and the geometrical
forms of his movement. Paul Cezanne inspired both paintings to use sensuality of females. He inspired
Matisse to focus on the landscape, and Picasso to focus on the colors. Even though he was a source of
inspiration for painters from different movements, Matisse and Picasso differentiated their work with
the characteristics from their own movements. Matisse used the bright and cheery landscapes

They stingily agreed to integrate. The main theme of the book was racial tension. The white folks
treated the black folks like they were dirt. Even older white folks treated the younger black children
like dirt. I do not understand how any adult could hit a child, especially because of their color. One
instance that really bothered me was when a white man almost raped Melba because she was black. It
was in 1954, immediately after Brown vs. the Board of Education decision had came down. After that
she said she was going to read the newspaper because she wanted to know when white men got angry.
And sometimes she had to spend her own nickel for it. Another theme throughout the book could be
determination. The nine children were determined to carry out integration. They did not give up. Some
older black folks in the neighborhood faulted the nine children for the actual attempt of integration.
They claimed that it made it harder than it already was to be black and living in Little Rock. For
example, Melba s neighbor Mrs. Floyd said to her after the first day at Central, Now You ve had your

Case Study Of Hospitality
One might attempt to define hospitality as the welcoming action towards tourists that visit a particular
area and the activity in which the hosts offer refreshments, meals and entertainment (Webster, 2015).
People enter voluntarily in the contemporary way in which people help to accommodate tourists and
supply food and beverages (Brotherton and Wood, 2000). Another way of adding to what hospitality
may mean are the manners and knowledge that a host has in order to satisfy the customers needs (O
Connor, 2005). Hospitality has been characterized as being the pleasant and kind hearted greeting of
visitors by the local community and the relationship that is made between the host and guest (Oxford

Arts and literature took distinctive shape; Ranjit Singh encouraged historical literature in Persian what

What Is The Corgers Of Marriott International And Starwood...
Hotel owners and Franchises:
Marriott International and Starwood Hotels and Resorts both have different unique selling points
enabling them to become large hotel companies. With the merger, both companies will combine their
unique qualities to encourage efficiency as well as new hotel developments. These improvements may
be able to increase profitability enabling owners to have increase in their revenue (Bethesda, 2016).
Due to the large increase in customer base and owning multiple properties all over the world,
competition certainly has reduced as a result. Thus, this may lead to monopolization of certain hotel
markets increasing profits for existing hotel owners and franchises (Butler, 2016). In addition, as both
companies already have their own wide company portfolio and brands, in the long term Marriott
International and Starwood Hotels and Resort can take advantage of the opportunity to explore variety
of brands within the expansion of their brand families. The exponential increase in their market power
and data access may lead to increase in their economies of scale, further increasing their profitability.
In addition, the increase market power means the companies will have stronger bargaining power
against OTAs, resulting in lower booking fees. Therefore, the reduction in their cost and increasing
their appearance on the OTAs being more exposed to potential customers which may further increase
their profitability as well as marketing power (Butler, 2016).

Persuasive Essay On Nuclear Energy
In today s America, fossil fuels continue to be the top producers of energy across the nation.
Renewable energies, however, are starting to become cheaper, more efficient, and more practical as
the need to fight climate change becomes a greater issue everyday. Renewable energies such as solar,
hydropower, and wind are making an expeditious growth in the United States. One of the largest
producers of renewable energy in the United States is Nuclear Power, which is the largest producer out
of the aforementioned renewable energies. It continues to be a safe, cheap, and viable option for
energy production, yet public opinion causes it to be less favorable to wind, solar, and others due to
perceived risks. On March 11th of 2011, an earthquake and tsunami in Japan caused the Fukushima
power plant to meltdown and release dangerous radiation into the environment and completely destroy
the plant. Before this incident, public support for nuclear under Barack Obama, who was advocating
increased production for nuclear power as it s a clean energy, was at 71%.1 The most recent nuclear
meltdown was the Three Mile Island incident in 1979, located in Harrisburg Pennsylvania, which was
becoming a fading memory in the public s mind. 2 In the aftermath of the Fukushima plant meltdown,
the world became increasingly anxious about nuclear energy. Nonetheless, even with the renewed
fears of nuclear power, production of new plants would continue in East Asia, India and the Middle

Iliad Gods
The gods of the Iliad are a unique set of individuals . Unlike the omnipresent god of the Christian who
is above man in wisdom, power and character, these gods are portrayed as a family. Here s a family of

My thesis thus is that gods are not impotent but are in a lot aggrandized versions of man who control
the fate of man.
Gods as stated earlier are very much like man. One way to see this analogy is to compare gods to the
flaws of man. Take the seven deadly sins of man pride, envy, anger, sloth, gluttony and lust the gods in

First off is when Zeus ponders in his heart as to whether to save Sarpedon from his death or not. Hera
s reply to him reveals a different concept of fate. ...if you bring Sarpedon back to his home, still living,
think how then some other gods might also wish to carry his own son out of the strong encounter...
(16. 439 457, pg. 363). This dialogue reveals one this about fate: it is changeable. Another instance
comes up again with Zeus trying to save to Hektor from his death. This time it is Athene who
reprimands him. ...Do you wish to bring back a man who is mortal, one long since doomed by his
destiny, from ill sounding death release him... (22. 177 181, pg. 462). Fate can be here regarded as
means to ensure the mortality of man and also, a god loses respect when he or she breaks fate. But the
overall value of fate will be as a law. Fate appears to serve as a check and balance among the gods;
preventing them from doing as they please to mortal men. As to who decides when the fate of a man is
to come is generally unknown, but all the gods to know each man s appointed fate. Thus as can be

Year-Round Schooling Argumentative Analysis
As of 2014, over 3000 schools in the United States are year round. Instead of having one longer
summer break, these schools take several shorter breaks throughout the year (Scholastic 15). With so
many advantages and very few disadvantages of year round schooling, it is not surprising that these
schools chose to exchange their excessively long summer breaks for shorter, more frequent breaks.
Not only can year round schooling improve the academic performance of students, but it can also
economically benefit all aspects of society. Schools should adopt a year round calendar, causing one to

Scientific Reports And Discoveriesalways Attract The Media.
Scientific reports and discoveries always attract the media. Multiple cases have been turned into media
reports. One case is the issue that Smoking During Pregnancy Seems to Alter Fetal DNA . With this
case there are numerous reports written as well as scientific research. There is a very distinct
difference in news reports on the issue and actual scientists reporting their tests and hypotheses. In
order to understand the differences one must first consider the rhetorical model. The author s exigence
or purpose for writing, as well as the intended audiences can make a major difference in the writing of
the issue. After taking the rhetorical model into consideration one can realize this issue is one of many
issues that can harm fetuses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason for doing this is the news reporter s exigence, or reason for writing the article is to just
provide the public with a story and explain the most important details to try to get the public interested
in their stories. The news reporter also has a deeper exigence beyond just writing a story, the news
reporter gets paid accordingly to how popular their reports are, therefore in reality, news reporters
write to get paid, rather than to make a difference in the scientific community. The article goes on to
say that the research may help improve understanding , in this news report stating that it may help, just
provides the reader with the thought that the writer doesn t clearly know the findings just what they
have read on the issue, whereas the scientific report intelligibly states the facts because the news
reporter is in a discourse community of just writing and reporting, no scientifically based knowledge
is needed in their field, so reporters don t need to know much about what they are reporting on, as
long as they know the most important details.
There are other substantial contrasts between the two as well. In a news report the writer or reporter is
only skilled in the expertise of media and whatever path of schooling and research they took, in
contrast the scientist has an educational background and knows more about studies and science in
general. Therefore the scientist knows more about how

The Pros And Cons Of The Holocaust Memorial
1.) Memorialization of any sort can be a tedious process, but those regarding Holocaust remembrance
were particularly challenging given the surrounding social and political controversies that ensued.
This is primarily seen through the issue of representation, which consistently played a key role in the
creation of both the Holocaust museum in Washington D.C., and the Dachau concentration camp
memorial. While the Dachau memorial s conception stages, the designers were contemplating which
victim groups to include. For instance, the mayor of Dachau stated, Please do not make the mistake of
thinking that only heroes died in Dachau. Many inmates were...there because they illegally opposed
the regime of the day....You have to remember there were many criminals and homosexuals in
Dachau. Do we want a memorial to such people? (Harold Maruse, Dachau, 151). With this quote, the
mayor implies that the memorial will only be dedicated to those he deems worthy of representation.
Likewise, the White House officials orchestrating the American Holocaust Museum also debated a
similar notion regarding the inclusion of ethic victim groups other than the Jews. However, Wiesel and
other Holocaust survivors believed that commemorating non Jews was an ...obscene incursion into the
boundaries of Holocaust memory by those whose country men had persecuted survivors (Edward T.
Linenthal, Preserving Memory, 53). For this reason, and in order to avoid the generation of false
memories, these groups

Comparing Gilgamesh And The Book Of Genesis
The Epic of Gilgamesh depicts a story about Gilgamesh, a king on earth who is two thirds god and
one third human. However, he is young and oppresses his people ruthlessly. The story takes the reader
on a journey through a series of events that ultimately leads Gilgamesh to find his true self. One
important historical event that took place is the flood, which occurs in both the Epic of Gilgamesh and
the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament. The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Genesis in the Old
Testament share a great amount of similarities.
In both books, there are Gods who possess almighty powers on earth. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Enlil,
the god of the winds, calls for a flood to end all of mankind because man was too noisy. Similarly, in
the Book of Genesis, God calls for a great flood to destroy all mankind because they were sinning. In

For the working class under sixty five the US uses a Bismarck system where there are private
insurances that individuals purchase to cover care (if they can purchase it). For the over sixty five

where providers are public and government owned and individuals do not receive any bills of any
kind. Lastly, for the uninsured (currently about twenty three million) individuals are forced to buy for
all services out of pocket and thus cause significant financial burden and in many cases bankruptcy
(Reid 20). Ultimately, with these varying methods combined with the countless payers present in the

scared and stopped his steroid problem. When Giambi reported to spring training this year, he came in
with a sunken in face and weighed 20 pounds less, which is an occurrence that happens when an
athlete discontinues his steroid cycle.
Steroids are becoming a huge problem in Major League Baseball. Records in the past, such as the
single season home run record, were set by people who were truly amazing athletes and achieved their
record from hard work and dedication. From 1966 through 1994, two players hit at least 50 or more
home runs. Since 1995, 18 players have reached 50. Roger Maris single season record of 61 home
runs stood for 27 years and has been surpassed six times since 1998. Morals in baseball have been

chemically making themselves stronger so that they can make record books, and they are ruining their
bodies as well as the competition to do it. Players now have to start juicin up just to contend with the
competition. The NBA, NFL, NCAA, and Olympics all ban steroids, and it is coming to the day where
baseball needs too as well (Caminiti).

London Greenpeace is an activist group with 3.3 million members in over 22 countries that use highly visible actions to draw media attention to environmental problems. The London Greenpeace group, a division of Greenpeace, is an independent group of activists that has no involvement in any political party. This group meets weekly to share concern for the oppression in our lives and the destruction of our environment. Anderson (1992) cited that weaknesses in most case studies of activism is that similar case studies should be conducted that examine activism from the perspective of both the organizations and of the activists groups, which is applicable to this study of the McLibel case. In my research, I came across must more literature and disseminated information from the small activist group of London Greenpeace versus the large multi national corporation of McDonald s. • 3. Public Housing Policy in Singapore 1 INTRODUCTION The Singapore public housing policy since its establishment has proved to provide shelter for the population and has contributed significantly to the economic, social and political development of Singapore. This policy has been the benchmark for the best public housing by other countries notably China and Hong Kong (Yang, 2010; Wong, 2011). The public housing policy implementation has been spearheaded by Housing and Development Board (HDB) to tackle post war economic problems such as rapid population growth, high unemployment rate and a critical shortage of sanitary housing (HDB, 2014). The policy was also aimed to mitigate social problems such as riots and strikes among the different ethnic groups (HDB, 2014). The success story of public housing policy implementation lies in the higher economic growth and social stability of Singapore. Economic growth saw 82% of the population live in 879,000 HDB flats located across 23 towns and estates with home ownership rate at 95% high (Department of Statistics, 2014). In terms of social stability, the policy implementation has freed Singapore from race riot since 1969 (Department of Statistics, 2014). However, rising issues and concerns of ageing population, income disparity and higher housing price have destabilized Singapore s public housing policy (Population White Paper, 2013). In light of these challenges, new measures and directions have to be introduced by the Government to keep public housing policy relevant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was sent to live with his grandmother as a small boy in a village about 40 miles from Albany. At the age of thirteen, be became apprenticed to a watchmaker. He then became interested in theatre and was offered employment as a professional actor, but instead he attended Albany Academy where he was provided with free tuition. If a current is flowing, self inductance tends to keep it from building up. Henry found that self inductance is greatly affected by the configuration of the circuit, especially the coiling of the wire. He also discovered how to make non inductive windings by folding the wire back on itself. At the same time Henry was doing all this, another physicist, Michael Faraday was doing similar work in England. Henry was slow in publishing his results and was unaware of Faraday s work, therefore Faraday is recognized as the discoverer of mutual inductance, which is the basis of transformers, while Henry is only accredited for the discovery of self inductance. At the age of 35, Yale s geologist, Benjamin Silliman, was consulted regarding the possible appointment of Henry to Princeton. Silliman s response was negative in saying that Henry has no superior in our country, and Henry, who was modest, defended the fact that he never graduated any colleges and he is principally self educated. Henry therefore got the job. His initial salary at Princeton was $1,000 per annum plus a house. The Trustees also provided for $100 for the purchase of a new electrical machine. • 6. Asians And Asian American Culture This class helped me realize how ignorant I really was about the Asian American culture as well as the Native American culture. I generally believed that I was more culturally sound than I actually am. I believed that I knew more about these cultures than I really did and was shocked to realize that I fed into some of the stereotypes. I knew that Asian Americans did well academically because their parents valued education and had them study more than their peers, however I did not realize that culturally boys were expected to succeed more academically than girls were. I believed that girls were equally held up to a standard as boys were. Watching the film clips related to Asians and Asian Americans was an eye opening experience. Just as African Americans are told that their natural hair is not good enough and it is internalized, it appears it is the same for many Asian Americans in relation to their eyes. The film clip about the young girl being taken to have plastic surgery on her eyes at the age of 12 because she felt that she would be more beautiful was a heart breaking scene to watch. It never occurred to me that a feature that is specific to that particular group would become something that has almost become shameful to a lot of people. To have an eye surgery is a serious decision one has to make and for that little girl to be so sure that she wants her eyes operated on at 12 years old was something that I could relate to, but not understand. The Google Android Operating System The Google Android Operating System To fully understand the Google Android operating system, you must look back beyond the development of the very first version of the Android OS. In 1999, former manufacturing engineer at Apple, Andy Rubin, joined with two other men, Matt Hershenson and Joe Britt, to found Danger Inc. The company aimed to provide hardware and software for mobile devices. Their most notable device was the T Mobile Sidekick. The company spearheaded the idea of a client server model and is credited with the creation of the App Marketplace. Danger Inc. was sold in 2008 to Microsoft, but the idea of the Android OS was brewing several years before this. In 2003, Rubin made the decision to leave Danger Inc. to work on Android. For several years, Rubin funded his ideas out of pocket and did not produce any new products. His aim was similar to that of Danger s to revolutionize smartphone software and open source development of ideas previously started by Danger. Android came from Linux, but has since become an independent operating system. 2005 came around and Android had still not put out its first product. Rubin s focus was on web connected experiences and to create an environment where developers could apply their skills. This new idea attracted investors, namely Google. Google was interested in staying competitive with the big companies in the smartphone market at the time Blackberry and Microsoft. The idea that sparked Google s interest was the open source ... As guides for clinician, the formal Diagnostic Statistical Manual has categorical description of a variety of illnesses that are classified based on symptoms (Kite, Gullifer Tyson, 2012). Recently, the new version of the DSM raises many controversies since it suggests merging Asperger syndrome into the category of autism disorder to reduce confusion and therefore eliminating their differentiation. Along with the two kraters we will also discuss the quality of St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts environment. The St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts stands out from its surrounding with is dimensions alone, being only two stories it is dramatically shorter than any other building and its width covering near a city block makes it wider than any other building in the vicinity. The size of the krater being the second largest artwork, at approximately thirty inches, in the room helps it stand out from other pieces, but is still eclipsed by the Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) at approximately forty two inches. Size is not the only thing both kraters share that continued across time, contrasting colors also prevails in both pieces. The Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) illustrating a white subject against a black background and the Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) with black subjects and yellow or lighter background. Kraters themselves are known to be used to water down wine, but with the funerary scenes on both kraters they would have been more likely used as grave markers. The placement of the Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) being next to other grave markers within the museum helps to exemplify this as well as the information label associated to it. The use of visually encompassing the main figure persisted across time, but with slight differences. In the Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) the main subject is surrounded by a Naiskos , or funerary shrine, whereas the Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) the main subject is covered or surrounded with burial cloth. Another visual aspect that both kraters have are figures on the outsides showing respect towards the deceased. On both kraters the figures showing respect are illustrated as women since in that era men were not to show emotions or attend the funeral. The Red Figure Volute Krater shows this by the reddish brown figure how women were portrayed and the Terracotta Krater by small marks indicating breast. • 16. Yellow Wallpaper Breakdown The Yellow Wallpaper The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is about how a woman progresses through a nervous breakdown. The story is written in a first person narrative where the narrator is a unnamed woman with mental health issues. She recently moved to a mansion with her husband, because he believes that the residence is a great place for the narrator to recuperate from her mental illness. However, the narrator s mental condition continues to get worse while living in the mansion as she becomes more and more bothered by the wallpaper that is in her room. She ends up becoming obsessed with the wallpaper and starts to imagine that the figures in the wallpaper are moving. Towards the end of the story the narrator has a complete mental breakdown and goes insane. The story ends when John, the narrator s husband, faints when he enters his wife s room, because he is greatly disturbed when he finds her creeping around and becoming one of the figures behind the wallpaper.
