Early Childhood Education Department, University of Oklahoma
This paper is submitted for the EDEC 5970 Social Emotion in Early Childhood as part of the
course requirement.
Abstract
Early childhood development occurs in six domains. This paper discusses the role of play and its
effects on these domains in children learning. Different types play and play centers were discussed
to show connectivity of the play type and domain development. Interactions among children during
play can enhance cooperative learning using methods and materials used in the play center. Teacher
plays important role to set up the play center, method and materials to be used, and create the
learning environment with specific goal setting. Intervention approach by asking different types of
questions help them to engage, make learning fun, and effective collaborative learning.
Introduction
. Early childhood development takes place in six domains including physical, language, social,
cognitive, emotional, and cultural. Figure 1 shows all six domains in early childhood
development. Physical domain involves learning to use big muscles (gross motor skills) and
small muscles (fine motor skills) in our body. Activities such as crawling, walking, running,
hopping, ups and downs are a few examples of gross motor skills. Writing, drawing, cutting with
scissors and walking on a line are a few examples of fine motor skills.

How Did Jfk Influence The Government
Kennedy was known as a cautious and sensible politician and was adored by many for
generations. Kennedy inspired many and made many promises during his campaign for
president. Kennedy wanted to help the poverty and made it a promise to put it on the national
agenda. Kennedy gained support for a urban renewal program that moved businesses to depressed
areas and created training programs for the unemployed. In the summer of 1963, Kennedy reached
a turning point in his domestic agenda, planning a full scale attack on poverty and calling for
comprehensive civil rights bill. He promised to make economic growth a key objective by
reducing taxes. He believed this would increase demand, boost production, and decrease
unemployment. Congress passed Kennedy s tax cut bill in 1964, but some liberal critics of the tax
cut pointed out that it favored the wealthy and that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was also created to ban literacy tests and ensure federal
intervention to protect black voting rights. These acts were created to mainly protect African
Americans but another form of discrimination fell with the Immigration and Nationality Act of
1965, which abolished quotas for immigrants from regions outside northern and Western Europe.
Great Society benefits affected not only the depressed regions in poverty and civil rights but
Johnson s programs addressed the needs of the elderly and consumers, funded the work of artists
and musicians, and obtained measures to control pollution. Johnson s policies were not liked by
everyone and his antiwar movement crippled his leadership but in 1968, Johnson got Congress to
pass a civil rights law banning discrimination that was called the National Housing Act of 1968,
which created an increase in construction of low income housing for the

Terra Elan Mcvoy Tragic Love Quotes
Oftentimes people make poor decisions to satisy the one they love. These people often get
themselves into unforeseen situations. In Terra Elan McVoy s tragic love story, Nikki Dougherty
was so blindly in love with her boyfriend, Dee Pavon. Nikki was voluntarily involved with a
homicide that Dee committed. He tried to blame it all on her, but they both went to prison in the
end. A central theme in McVoy s novel
is that a person who is in lovemust know their boundaries.
To begin, Nikki s life became far from perfect once she started dating Dee. McVoy states, You are
a criminal, Nikki. You lied to the police to protect your boyfriend (242). This quote was said by
Nikki s friend, Hampton, when Nikki called her to tell her the whole story of the incident. Nikki
gave false information to the police about where they were on the night that the deputy was
killed. She did this to protect Dee. She was so blinded with Dee s love that she did not notice
what he was doing to her. This ties to the theme of the book because Nikki finally realized that
Dee had turned her into a criminal. It ruined her life. People did not looked at her the same
anymore; she had no one left to support her. Nikki was trying to save her boyfriend, but that
caused her more trouble. Therefore, she gave up on Dee and told herself that... Show more content

For instance, McVoy reveals that, They had a letter. A letter from him. In his handwriting. And
it was to this other girl. A girl Nicole. N, like me. And it said he was going to marry her (McVoy
41). This quote explains the scenario when Nikki called Bird and told her about the
heartbreaking letter that the police had shown her. It was a wrote by Dee, and it talked about
how he wants to marry a girl named Nicole. In association with the theme, Nikki finally accepted
the fact that Dee never cared about her. She realized how blindly in love she was and ended the
relationship because she knew that he was not good for

Effects Of Prohibition In The 1920-1933
When the prohibition law was passed, it affected many different people in many ways.
Prohibition lasted from 1920 1933 during this social experiment it helped us realize as a nation
the more serious crimes that were occurring in our nation. Some disrespected the law, people who
broke the law became criminals. Many groups fought to up hold the law of prohibition by keeping
immigrants and foreign nations out of the U. S s affairs. While other groups turned to criminal
actions such as violence and murders instead of using their rights to free speech. It changed the
education in local schools twisted government officials and further worsened racism and

The eighteen amendment was the first amendment to include a time limit for ratification. Each
state was free to ban the making and selling of alcoholic drinking within its borders. This section
makes bringing liquor into a dry state of federal offense. Special state conventions were called to
ratify this amendment. This is the only time an amendment was ratified by state conventions
rather than state legislatures. Later the twenty first amendment repealed or canceled this
amendment. The effects of Prohibition triggered the rise of mass disobedience to its laws and
took the amendments advocates by surprise. Prohibition made the gangster not just well paid, but
well liked. The idea that money can buy power was verified by gangsters such as Capone:
bootlegging funds led to both political and violent physical power. This power enabled gangs to
find new avenues to exploit, as well as new ways to run old types business, such as gambling.
Similarly, organized crime continues today because of the prohibition on gambling, prostitution and
drugs. Where there is demand, there will be supply. Prohibition permanently corrupted law
enforcement, the court system, and politics. Organized crime was huge, and it had a lot of money
and influence. Policemen and politicians were bribed and blackmailed. Many court cases required
payoffs to get a fair hearing. In other words, corruption abounded and the people began distrusting
the government. Prohibition harmed people

HPV: A Cause for Concern
1.Introduction
Human papillomavirus or HPV is one of the most common viruses that are transmitted through
sexual activity. A virus is sometimes referred to an obligate intracellular parasite, which cannot
multiply outside of a living cell. Transmission can occur through hand to hand contact, exposure to
contaminated blood, and shared objects. Typical exposure is achieved through skin to skin contact
during intercourse. HPV can pass from person to person with no signs or symptoms. Development
of symptoms can occur years after initial infection. Many cases of HPV can clear up on their own.
If a reoccurring case of HPV is left untreated, then a papilloma ... Show more content on

Detections methods have improved over the years for identification with the use of swabs from
cutaneous epithelium or plucked hairs. These methods primarily identify beta and gamma types of
viruses. Most infected individuals eliminate the virus without developing clinical manifestations.
Closely related types of virus can show distinct pathologies in HPV. While their genetic
sequences can be similar, their pathologies and virulence can be different. HPV six and eleven
share 85% sequence identity. HPV six is found in anogenital warts while HPV eleven is primarily
responsible for laryngeal papillomas. HPV thirteen shares a 78% likeness with both HPV six and
eleven but doesn t cause the same pathologies. HPV seven and forty have an 87% resemblance in
sequence and both cause butchers warts.
3.Structure and Function
HPV is a non enveloped virus with double stranded DNA that is protected by an icosahedral capsid.
An icosahedral is a polyhedral with twenty faces. The genome consists of double stranded circles
with approximately eight thousand base pairs containing eight or nine open reading frames. Gene
expression involves multiple promoters and complex patterns of splicing. The HPV genome
separates into three regions; the long control region, early region, and a late region. The early
region contains no coding for structural proteins in

What Role Does The Satan Play In The Canterbury Tales
In Medieval Literature Satan was often used as a character. There was also more evidence during
this period of time. They were not that obvious unlike others but they were there for sure. They
were often symbolized in a certain character s and personalities that they had throughout the
Prologue. The characters were really relatable to the characteristics of Satanhimself. Satan played a
big role in The Canterbury Tales with the Parson, Pardoner, and Summoned. IN the Prologue of
The Canterbury Tales, the Summoner is immediately characterized as Satan. He is described as
red face with big whelks which are pimples just used in another term back then. In the book
Chaucer says, There was a Summoner with us in the place who had a fire red cherubinnish face
(Chaucer line 642). Not only that but he drinks and when he does , he doesn t care what is
going on around him, According to the text it says, And drinking strong wine till all was hazy ,

He never wanted to give offering or tithes, for instance, He much disliked extorting tithe or fee

and is holy and is always going to be there when someone need to be blessed, or needs advise,
According to the text it says, Who truly knew Christ s gospel and would preach it, Devoutly to

The Importance Of A Good Human Resource Department
A good human resource department is essential to any successful businesses in today s society.
Before human resource managers were seen as people who deal with employee disputes and little
more, now this is just one small part of their role to organisations. Human resource is a huge
department for reasons as being a key planner in helping company s employee performances. In this
essay I will be exploring the different types of personnel managementthat is used, assessing the
roles of human resource practitioners, Evaluating the responsibilities of human resource practices
and evaluating the process of job evaluations and the main factors which determine pay whilst
describing the link between motivational theories. I will also explore the different organisational
approaches to monitoring staff performances in doing so I will show evidence of my research by
referencing appropriate material.
Management of your staff is one of the most important roles of any human resource department, the
way that it is done is split into two types; personnel management and human resource management.
Personnel management is a predominantly administrative record keeping function that aims to
establish and maintain equitable terms and conditions of employment (Nayab, 2015). Human
resource management integrates the traditional personnel management functions to incorporate
goals and strategies, and performs additional people centred organizational developmental activities
(Nayab, 2015). Human

do not want the time and financial expense necessary to invest in braces, especially when their first
thought turns to traditional metal braces. New technology, though, like Invisalign, has helped to

Challenges of Invisalign
For the treatment to be successful, patients need to commit to wearing the aligning trays for the pre
set number of hours each day. Without wearing the trays, patients won t have see the anticipated in
the expected time period.
The trays need to be removed for eating, drinking, and some sports, while traditional braces are
affixed to the teeth and not removed until the end of treatment.
Every two weeks, patients will have a new series of trays. Visits to the provider won t happen that
frequently, but they will need to be regularly checked to make sure the teeth are moving into the
proper places.
There are a few cases in which Invisalign is not the best method to treat or correct a dental
condition.
Often, Invisalign has a higher cost involved than traditional braces, however, there can be, and are,
many exceptions.
Invisalign is regularly updating and improving the technology, and dentists and orthodontists who
are not regularly staying informed on the improvements may have a more challenging time
achieving the desired results.

Erectile Dysfunction ( Ed )
I have selected erectile dysfunction (ED) as my topic of discussion this week. ED is such a
prevalent health issue, there are so may myths regarding the issue. One of the most common
myths that I think we may all have heard of from our elderly patients I can get it up because I

information to our patients in the future. Below is a helpful link that can assess how much we

sexual dysfunction, is occurs in men. The chances of ED increase with age, however, it is not an
unavoidable part of aging. ED can be inability, inconsistent ability or able to maintain brief period

Stereotypes In The Babysitter
For this week s blog I ve decided to discuss the two dichotomizing views of women portrayed in
the first thirty minutes of the horror comedy movie The Babysitter. This horror comedy Netflix
original movie tells the story of Cole, a young teenager who is one of the last of his age to still
have a babysitter. The film presents two schemas of women in American society: the first as the
sexy, young, promiscuous babysitter and the other as the suburban superwoman. The superwoman
stereotype is defined by Harris and Sanborn as the portrayal of women who appear to handle the
demands of career, marriage, and parenting with amazingly little stress and difficulty (Harris
Sanborn, 2014, p. 81).
The movie s discussion of the babysitter as being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think the effect of the portrayals of women in this film will have different effects depending on
the audience. From the babysitter portrayal girls and young women may learn a particular script
about what a babysitter should be and/or do. Older women, may compare themselves to the script of
attractiveness the babysitter embodies and find themselves lacking.
For the superwoman portrayal, women in similar positions may see how easy the mom in this film
makes fulfilling these obligations look and again may find themselves lacking in comparison. Both
young girls and older women could see this portrayal of the superwoman as the societal average of
what a woman should be able to achieve. This could lead young girls to place an expectation on
themselves in future. Overall, I found little in these two depictions of women to be supportive of a
positive portrayal of women in the

and not allow him to squat on your doorstep... and then, in the name of Christianity, say now that
you ve done your duty towards him? I strongly disagree with this foolish statement stated by P.W.
Botha as he actions were outrageously misguided towards the coloured South Africans, as his
alienating and prejudiced intentions extended segregation under apartheid institution. It can be
hypothesised that the Apartheid institutional racism of South Africabetween 1948 to 1994 was
designed to neglect coloured society as inferior that resulted in political corruption, social
discrimination and economic distress as for the intentions of achieving great benefits for the white
minority.
Authorised by P.W. Botha, apartheid took control and manipulated the South African political
system in favour of the white minority, illustrating the 40 years of Apartheid where majority of the
coloured population had feared and suffered through the 148 harsh Apartheid policies and
legislations. One of those policies were

What Is The Theme Of The Oxen By Thomas Hardy
In synopsis, at that point: the sonnet s speaker inclines upon a forest entryway and perspectives
the land around him as an image of the occasions of the nineteenth century, the Century s cadaver
outleant ; the speaker is made a piece of the scene, not only a confined eyewitness, as outleant
echoes the speaker s own activity toward the begin of the ballad ( I leant upon a coppice door ).
The century is biting the dust ( sepulcher , demise regret ) since it is at its end, yet in addition
since something has kicked the bucket because of the occasions of that century: religious
confidence. This religious measurement to the ballad is borne out by Hardy s own convictions yet
in addition by his different sonnets, for example, The Oxen (which... Show more content on

The matching of the two or the possibility of a couple is built before the sonnet even begins. In
the title, Twain , the old word for two is utilized, creating the possibility of a matching, with the
most evident combine being the ship and the iceberg. From the 6th stanza onwards, Hardy s
lexis recommends that the union of the two powers was fated, an unavoidable occasion planned
by some covered up, wild power which is shown in phrases like The Immanent Will (VI, 18) and
the Spinner of Years (XI, 31). Despite the fact that these expressions are utilized as a part of his
books to signify the powers that work in human life, in the ballad the implicit power Hardy
proposes might be nature; the matching of human innovation and nature can be seen
unmistakably in the sonnet with all the new advancements of people set against the greater
power of nature. Tough talks about that while the Titanic was being assembled, nature as well
arranged a vile mate (VII, 19) and, in the following stanza, Hardy makes a feeling of threat in the
lines And as the shrewd ship developed/In stature, beauty and tone/In shadowy quiet separation
developed the Iceberg as well (VIII, 22 24). While commentator Chris Baldick claims Hardy s The
Convergence of the Twain implies a philosophical position and that it deliberately abstains from
admonishing , kindred faultfinder Donald Davie claims the lyric extraordinarily scolds the vanity
and extravagance which made and occupied the staterooms of the sea liner in this manner proposing

The Importance of Leadership, Values and Vision in Successful Fashion Retailing.

BA (Hons) Fashion Buying Retail and Management
RFRM4005: Identifying the M and E in Team
Introduction
The retail company which has been selected is Next, due to the long successful leadership skills
from CEO Simon Wolfson. This essay is going to look at how Simon has managed to keep Next
running and how he successfully leads his management team.
Looking at the history of Next it is seen that the previous CEO David Jones saw potential in
Simon, from when he was working for them as a buyer back in the early nineties, helping them to
rebuild their shares as they had fallen to around ten pence. Simon has also been on the board since
1997 helping to plan of the company putting it together.
How Simon has managed to take over from David Jones and how has he kept the business running
successfully.
Simon Wolfson was appointed the role Chief Executive Officerin 2001, the role was passed down
from David Jones who was the previous Chief Executive Officer from 1988. It mentions in a report
from the Telegraph (20th May 2001) it helped even more that Jones spotted his talents early on and
promoted him into ever more senior, precarious positions. If Wolfson s promotion had been blind
nepotism, the whole company would have suffered the consequences by now. Instead it has
flourished. The quote mentions the fact that if Simon didn t take over the business it may not have
flourished

Reinhold Niebhur s Views On Original Sin
Reinhold Niebhur s views on Original sin fall in line with my own actually; I do believe that
man is inherently evil with power to do good. As much of a blessing that free will is, I believe it
to also be a curse because nothing good comes free. With the freedom to make our decisions
comes the responsibilty to not only know but also to understand the effects of them. Every action
has a reaction, and sin is the reaction to free will. Niebuhr holds that man is responsible for his
unintentional sins, even if there was no malice. Niebuhr argues through Pauline teachings that sin
is essential; especially with man s tendency for self glorification. Pauline teachings indicate that
human sin is an inevitable defect derived from the sin of the first man .... Show more content on

This is easily seen because humans are faulty beings, who often fall into error even with good
intentions. Our faulty minds and free will can easily fll prey deception and misinterpretation of
what we think we saw with ignorance and imagination filling the gaps, and no matter what level of
mental fortitude, sense of morality, or innate holiness man possesses. Man still falls subject to
deception. If our minds, which are factors in our free will, can be subjected to manipulation, it is
not bizarre to claim that man sins unintentionally and is responsible to correct its actions.
Man s biggest flaw is its weakness in the face of temptation because temptation also lies in its
heart. Man s free will is inherently corrupted by the temptations of life and the world. While free
will pushed man s creativity to what seems to be a limitless boundary, it has also played a part in
man s own undoing. Man s undoing lies in their ego and desire for self gratification and self
glorification. They constantly strive to expand their presence and knowledge so much so that it
seems to know no bounds. However even with man s ambition it is all subject to God s

In the television segment Boosting Brain Power, I agree with Dr. Nora Volckan. I do not think
that students should take medication for attention deficit disorder if they do not have it, even if it

good idea. The video Adderal: Can it Boost Your GPA stated that so far research has not shown that

within each player hand to identify what their choices are, and chose a direction that they would

that player one does not have the required information, whereas, one player have an advantage

The Dj Essay, Research Paper
The DJ
About fifteen years ago a culture was born. In Europe a new type of music was being created.
Something new, something fresh. A music fueled by throbbing beats over rattling bass. This is
electronic music. The mastermind behind this whole up and coming culture was and is the DJ.
In the past five years have become more and more popular everyday. Some people who are not
aware of this music or this culture might argue that being a DJ is not a serious profession for
various reasons. Throughout this paper I will prove these notions false. As support I will provide
the history of the DJ, what exactly it is, insight from various DJ s and much more.
It all began about fifteen years ago. In towns in Europe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rock music absorbed House and Techno, and DJ s and electronicists began to tour and act like rock
stars. As one century tipped into another, dance music was still a primary source of interest and
creativity as Trance, a futuristic blend of technology and House and Techno, became a chart
topping, globe girdling sensation ( Prendergast pg 367). Another great more specific example of
this is Paul Oakenfold as written in Last night a DJ saved my life, When Paul Oakenfold plays
records in a club, every person on the dance floor will be facing him. Just like they d face a rock
band on a stage. There s not much to see: a baseball cap maybe, a studious face leaning into a
pair of headphones, some minimal arm movements as he slides in another flawless mix.
Occasionally he might throw his hands up in excitement, smile out in response to a particularly
grand track, or share a wink with some energetic fan, and when he does, there ll be a sea of hands
aloft, a breakout of waving and grinning, an ocean of smiling dancers mirroring his every gesture.
For he is a superstar ( Brewster pg 384). Along with these tours came annual festivals. Huge
festivals every year with sometimes over a hundred thousand people in attendance. Some of these

Violence In Venezuela
Long has it been known that South America has more than its fair share of crime and violence.
This was seen globally during the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics in the country of Brazil.
Onlookers were horrified by the number of reports, and videos showing tourists being attacked and
robbed by locals. Brazil is not the only country in South America that has a problem with violence
though, due to widespread poverty many countries struggle to maintain lawfulness. One of those
countries is Venezuela, a socialist country on the verge of complete societal collapse. Crimeand with
it, violence runs rampant through Venezuela, in large part because of a corrupt government that
either refuses to acknowledge the problems or refuses to do anything about them.... Show more

Those supporters then use their leverage, power, and wealth to secure themselves and their
families. This good old boy system leads to corrupt police, an unfair and politicized judicial
system and many other problems that stem from the wrong people being placed in highly
influential jobs. This can all be tied into the functionalism theory of sociology, where Venezuela
can be thought of as a living organism. Government is one of six core systems in sociology, and
is kind of like the central nervous system to the organism. If the government is not working
properly, this can affect education, which in turn may affect family dynamics. This breakdown in
one system leads to strain on the other systems of the organism, and it will eventually cause the
whole to fail. The people at the top, those in the government have thus far kept themselves from
feeling the burden of poverty and hunger. This however is unsustainable, and if the government is
not properly preforming the job it was designed to do than it would need to be replaced. Just as a
living organism would adapt a new and better system to continue living, so too will Venezuela

Minimum Wage
The concept of minimum wage is to ensure that employers do not pay wages below the
mandated level. However this does not always happen instead this policy ends up hurting these
workers and the economy in terms of lower job opportunities. This is because the increase of
labor costs keeping all other things constant would eat into the net profits of the company.
Therefore in order to offset the decrease in profits, the need for low skilled labor decreases and
companies look for higher productivity workers.
The groups that are directly affected by the minimum wage consists of young workers or teenagers,
part time workers and workers from non poor families.

In the case of appreciation of the yen, the following impacts could occur to Japanese firms * The
first effect would be on the negative effect of exports and as a result would cause the firms to
become less competitive based on price. * Another effect would be as a result of the exchange rate
fluctuations. Certain firms might not be protected to negative fluctuations as a result of dealing
with yen as their primary mode of currency. This therefore can eat into the profitability of the
Japanese firms and cause multinationals to shift overseas to a more stable country.
Therefore in short, the reduction in exports due to an increase in the value of yen is because the
Japanese goods have now become more expensive to other countries. Therefore this reduction
directly affects the firms that deal with these exports and thus affects their profitability.
However , in spite of the decrease in exports , Japanese firms now have the ability to expand

Analysis of Charles Murray s What s Wrong With Vocational School? Charles Murray is writing
to The Wall Street Journal, which is a huge and very diverse audience to whom to present such a
controversial argument. The point Murray is trying to make is that vocational schools are more
effective and logical courses of action for young people entering the job market than is the
conventional 4 year university track. In championing the cause of vocational schools over college,
Murray uses logos, appeals to authority, though his tone makes him come across as a little
condescending. This may almost damage his argument overall. Murray s argument is persuasive
through his use of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He challenges widespread expectation of all middle class Americans: vocational training is
second class. College is first class (Murray 632). This passage, while appearing to offer a simple
definition to the reader in order for him or her to be informed of the subject matter argued herein,
already states his position in the matter. Murray, possibly on purpose, taints his definition with
diction illustrating his bias. This could possibly damage his argument, because though he cites
different perspectives, the trouble with expectation, and a solution for these people, making him
look like a hero in a way, he also shows himself to be almost prejudiced in the argument.
Conversely, later championing the underdog, as he paints those with lower IQs, could potentially
make up for his somewhat brazen attitude for some members of his large, and no doubt very
disparate, audience. His argument does use pathos a little; citing the lower IQs, and that the people
who own them may struggle trying to bend to American culture s demand for a Bachelor s Degree,
tends to tug on the emotions of the reader, probably intentionally. This helps Murray a lot, for
throughout the argument he has seemed very sure of his argument, and as earlier mentioned, often
disdainful and lofty regarding the subject matter. Though an elitist, Murray is intelligent in his

is well known for its thrills, suspense, and the long lasting uncertainties it leaves in the mind of
readers. Its inexplicable screws and turns have generated arguments among critics, centuries after
its publication, and the story has been analyzed from diverse perspectives from psychological

The governess infatuation with her employer lays the foundation for her dangerous fabrication of
hallucination in the form of ghost sighting. The governess infatuations produce the apparitions
that haunted Bly. In one of her first few days at Bly, the she is fantasizing about running into a
kind of a man who is most likely to be the uncle, and thereafter the first supernatural event occurs,
she sees a ghost. The apparition appears real, since the governess is able to give a vivid physical
description of what he looks like even before she heard about him, nevertheless, that his
appearance occurs while she was daydreaming about her possible interaction with the uncle,
seems questionable. This supernatural activity could be adjudged a display of the governess
torment and repressed mental state. Edmund Wilson, in one of his 1938 essays entitled The
Ambiguity of Henry James gave a psychoanalytic perspective to the story. According to Wilson,
the Governess stands out as a neurotic and sexually repressed woman, whose secret desires drive
her to hallucination and not sighting of real ghosts (Edmund Wilson 90). Also, the governess
decision not to disclose her experience to her colleague, Mrs. Grose, is an indication that the
occurrence is merely born out of her inner fantasy. While she still wallows in confusion of her
strange experience, the ghost appears again, but the

Disengagement Theory And Alzheimer s Disease
Disengagement Theory and Alzheimer s Disease There are three core theories that have been
established in age related studies. There is the active theory which states that a person should
remain active and social. There is the Continuation Theory and states that people who age
successfully continue habits that lead to a happy life. Then there is the disengagement theory
and this theory will be the focus of the paper. Disengagement theory is the idea that as people
age it is expected for them to withdraw from society and take a more limited social role in life. I
believe that this theory ties into dementia and Alzheimer s Disease because it is expected that
older adults retire and move away from the workforce and society. When we think of Alzheimer
s disease it generally is a person who is older in life and withdrawn from the people around them
because they lack the ability to recall memories. Through this paper I will talk more about what
disengagement theory is and how it was developed and how I believe that it applies to Alzheimer
s disease. Finally, I will talk about a method of therapy that is used to combat this social
withdrawal seen in the disengagement theory as well as how it is used to treat Alzheimer s disease.
As defined by Crossman (Disengagement Theory n.d.) Disengagement theory states that in every
society, the elderly undergo a process of adjustment in which they leave important public roles and
narrow their social world to family and friends . Thus, the

Alcibiades In Plato s Symposium Essay
The Tragedy of Alcibiades in Plato s Symposium
In Symposium, a selection from The Dialogues of Plato, Plato uses historical allusions to
demonstrate Alcibiades frustration with both social expectations for the phallus and his inability to
meet these expectations. Alcibiades inability to have a productive sexual relationship effectively
castrates him and demonstrates the impotence caused by an overemphasis on eroticism. The
tragedy of Alcibiades is that he realizes he is unable to gain virtue through sexual relationships and
will therefore be forced to remain mortal, yet he is unable to alter his condition.

Socrates attempts to justify homosexual relationships by quoting Diotima s differentiation between
heterosexual relationships ( those who are pregnant in terms of their bodies and produce children)
and homosexual relationships (those who are pregnant in terms of the soul and produce prudence
and the rest of virtue in their partner) (Plato 271).2 This ideal of productivity in homosexual
relationships is realized by the lover passing knowledge and wisdom on to his beloved. Thus,
Socrates successfully justifies homosexual relationships; with this reasoning, he demonstrates to the
other partygoers that their homosexual relationships must be productive to be justified.

Compare And Contrast City And City Life
There comes a time in everyone s life when we ask ourselves the age old question which has
tormented so many, Should I live in the city or in the country? Imagine deciding whether to live in
just one specific area for the rest of your life. Many would argue that the hectic lifestyle that a big
city provides clearly places it ahead of a suburban landscape. Others, however, would claim that the
serene and restful environment of the countryside is much more satisfying than the citycould ever
be. It is important to be clear that not all vast cities are the same, and it goes the same way for the
suburban regions of America. The city and country lifestyleare two distinct types of living, each
with their own pros and cons that may overlap at times. Between these two, there are numerous
differences when looking at their environment, distinct social opportunities, and contrastive cost of
living. One way or another, all the facts will be laid down, and a deeper insight into why people
settle in either the city or the suburbs shall become apparent.
At first glance, it is obvious that there are many pros and cons when it comes to deciding a
lifestyle in either one of these surroundings, so careful assessment of all details are required to

helps others fulfill their potential, and any other positive roll are means by which one can work for
God. If everyone was a pastor, where would all those preachers buy food, what would they eat,
and who would drive the trucks that brings it to them (this broadly applies I Corinthians 12:17).
Work was given to humanity by God even before the fall; they were to multiply, fill, subdue, and
have dominion (Genesis 1: 29 NRSV). None of these listed works... Show more content on

He is not half human and half God He is all human and all God. Neither nature subsumes,
dominates, or eliminates the other. The two natures are not mixed up or blended into one; rather
they remain separate complete natures within the one person and comprising that one person. The
divine nature was not humanized nor the human nature divinized. They became united in one
person and are incapable of being separated. The unity of the two is such that acts that are
characteristic of one nature are attributed not to that nature alone but to the one person and thus, to
both the natures at the same time. Although this concept is difficult (if not impossible) to

Ulysses S Grant Essay
Ulysses S Grant Although Ulysses S. Grant s contemporaries placed him in the highest position of
great Americans along with George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, the twentieth century has
seen him fade. His presidency has been almost universally condemned, and he is consistently
ranked second to rock bottom Warren G. Hardingin polls of historians to rate the presidents.
Although his military reputation has declined as well, it nevertheless continues to win him a steady
following. Even his most faithful admirers, however, tend to end their studies conveniently at
Appomattox, and one senses a wide regret that Grant s public career extended beyond the Civil War.
Taking note of this trend, John Y. Simon observes that some biographers... Show more content on

His veto of the Inflation Act of 1874 and subsequent drive for what became the Resumption Act of
1875 shocked many who looked to Congress to cure the nation s economic ills, and the panic of
1873 came to an abrupt end when the act went into effect in 1879. The successful arbitration of the
Alabama and Virginus disputes mark not only foreign policy victories for the United States, but a
significant precursor to the future course of international affairs. The establishment of the principle
of the international arbitration through the Treaty of Washington, would later be embodied in the
Hague Tribunal, the League of Nations, the World Court, and the United Nations.
Grant s desire for peace was evident to me from the beginning of my research, but I did not
realize how far reaching it was until I noted the steadiness and rectitude he displayed throughout
the presidential electoral crisis of 1876 77, which could have become a disaster. Also remarkable
to me was Grant s Quaker Indian Peace Policy: on the eve of what could have become the
complete genocide of the American Indian, Grant acted decisively to begin two decades of reform
that for the first time promoted the welfare of Indians as individuals and broke ground for their
eventual citizenship.
However important these issues may seem, the traditional evaluation of Grant as president

Persuasive Essay On Relationships
It starts the moment we come to this world. Thousands of people around us that we re get to
interact with throughout our lives. Whether it s our families, friends, co workers, or even
acquaintances, we always strive to create a perfect and unique relationship with others without
really knowing what it actually needs to do that. According to the Dunbar s theory, even though
we might meet hundreds of people on a daily basis, we can only maintain a stable relationship
with only 150 individuals, and only 5 of which will be best friends, or people to whom we hold the
most meaning. Developing a good relationship cannot in anyway be done by following a series of
easy steps, rather it takes a complex group of actions on all levels to happen.... Show more content

Also, listening to their opinions and thoughts will lead to a healthy relationship because the two
sides in a relationship complement each other. Giving your honest opinion will earn you trust in
your relationship, but it s very important to make sure that you use the appropriate wording so that
you don t hurt your partner s feelings. Talking negatively to your partner can frustrate them drive
them into thinking that you no longer wish to proceed in the relation. Respecting others also means
respecting their privacy, this is very important because it makes them feel safe around you, and it
makes them trust you. Furthermore, the two sides in a relation shall respect each other s properties.
Expressing gratitude and appreciativeness in a relationship is very necessary since it generates a
sense of harmony and acceptance between the sides involved in the relation. Also, appreciation
gives a lot of positivity into the relationship and allows the relation to grow and develop, and it
establishes confidence and trust between partners. Being thankful to your partner makes them feel
that you re appreciating what they re doing for you, and it encourages them to continue doing. It
also results in your partner appreciating what you are doing for them and how much you care
about them. Moreover, appreciation is a great way to show respect to your

Adn vs Bsn
Grand Canyon University: NRS 430v Professional Dynamics February 19, 2012 Abstract For many
years, society has debated about the nursing degree. What are the differences? What are the
similarities? As nurses we have the opportunity to choose different levels of education. Which
include: associate degree, baccalaureate degree, masters degree and nurse practitioner. In beginning
we need to understand What is nursing in general? As defined by the ANA: Nursing is the
protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury,

The ADN prepared nurse may focus solely on the patient care and may also feel unable to assist
the family with their needs. They would review code status and resume care. (i.e. labs, IV
fluids, CXR etc.) However, the BSN prepared nurse may identify the family s unique needs and
plan accordingly. The BSN prepared nurse may delegate tasks more effectively to ancillary staff
to provide assistance. Perhaps having the aid or ward clerk to call other family or religious
affiliations for support. Or by providing the family with privacy and providing frequent updates on
the patient s condition and plan of care. Further education would be given to the family to
determine what extent of care is to be given. (I.e. maximum care or palliative care). The
determination would contribute to the entirety of knowledge needed and education provided. The
actual bedside competency difference would not be profound in this situation, but the entire
experience for the patient and/or the family can be improved as well as quality of life. Patient
education is also on the forefront of the BSN prepared nurse. More education and training in
regards to communication and technology gives the BSN nurse a greater ability to educate the
patient more thoroughly and comprehensively. References American Association of Colleges of

Local-Color Regionalism in Tennessees Partner Essay
The literary movement of local color regionalism in American literature is a very distinctive and
interesting form of fiction writing that effectively combines regional characteristics, dialect,
customs and humor. In Bret Harte s Tennessee s Partner, these characteristics helped the story jump
off the page, allowing the reader to understand the times rather than just the characters. And, for that
reason, I feel that this is an outstanding piece of work.
One of the most distinguishable characteristics of local color regionalism writing is the usage of
authentic dialect based on the story s setting. In Tennessee s Partner, Harteuses this tactic best when
quoting the title character. For example, when Tennessee s Partner suddenly appears... Show more

I call.
LYNCH: Two bowers and an ace.
TENNESSEE: That takes me.
Another local color characteristic that Harte used in Tennessee s Partner was the development of
characters based on their setting. The reader never feels like he knows much at all about any of the
characters even Tennessee and his partner at all. In fact, neither does the narrator. But through the
use of description, the two main characters become more stereotypes of miners in the Gold Rush
era; they were typical rugged, gambling, scorched skinned, strong, simple womanizing men.
This much is true with no one more than the title character, as his actions reveal more about the
time s concept of death during his friend s execution and burial rather than going too deep into his
own personal feelings about this particular death. Tennessee s Partner quickly compares his friend s
burial to all the other drunken trips his shouldered with Tennessee in the past and seemingly moves
on from the finality of the situation with ease.
Lastly, Harte uses the setting as a major element of the story, almost turning the vast land of
Tennessee s Partner into a character itself. The settings in most local color stories usually have an
emphasis on nature and the land is usually remote and out of the way, and the setting of this story is
no different.

Analysis Of Hermann Hesse s Siddhartha
As children the formalities posed upon us that our parents are with us since birth and to a
certain extent they will always be with us even when we part home. Our parents serve us are the
sole providers until we are able to fend for ourselves, when we part we look for them in times of
need. We seek them when we are sadden by a misfortunate casualty, not obtaining the raise at work
one hoped for or not being able to purchase the house you had been planning to live on. They are
there in moments of transition, moments of change to sooth us with a comforting pat in the back or
a graceful hug for the greater achievements in our lives like marrying your significant other. But
what happens when we decide to leave our parents nest with the mindset of no return, where do we
find comfort in times of change, who will be there? That is the transition the protagonist in the
novel Siddhartha by Hermann Hessedecides to make when he leaves the comfort of his home and
finds comfort in the flow of the river.
Just as our parents are with us since birth the river was with Siddhartha. The river was with him
since a young boy in the sunshine on the river bank by the boats... Siddhartha, the handsome
Brahmin s son, grew up with his friend Govinda (3). The river wasn t just part of his childhood
but it played a significant role in his religion. As the river was part of his morning holy ablutions
(3) it served as the proxy to his daily purification. Siddhartha s early exposure set up his

Essay on Art and the Bible
Art and the Bible
Art and the Bible is an interesting approach at looking at art in all of its forms. It also answers the
question what is the place of art in the Christian life? Along with the question it tries to put a
general perspective on art. The different types of art that are mentioned are writing, painting, poetry,
drama and music. The question is answered by looking in the Bible and finding specific example
regarding art in all of its forms. The general perspectives on art are looked at in eleven points. I
will also critique this book and give my personal opinion. The first thing made clear in Art and the
Bible is the Lordship of Christ regarding man. The Bible makes four things very clear: God made
the whole man; in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Moses was on Sinai, God gave him specific instructions regarding the building of the
tabernacle. And in these instructions God clearly asked for beauty to be present in the tabernacle.
God commanded that art be constructed, not only in the Tabernacle but also in the Temple. There
was no utilitarian purpose for some of the art in the Tabernacle and in the Temple, it is just that
God is very interested in beauty. Also, God didn t say that the art had to be photogenic, God
commanded that there be blue, purple, and scarlet pomegranates adorning the skirts of the priest.
Purple and scarlet are natural colors of a pomegranate but blue is not. In other words art can be
free, it is not constricted to actuality in nature. There are many other instances in which God
commanded art in the Temple and in the Tabernacle.
The art that has been discussed so far has all had to do with God, but there is also secular art, and
that does not mean that it is wrong. There is secular art in the Bible, in 1 Kings 10 Solomon s
throne is described. His throne is adorned with ivory and the finest gold, and with a total of 14
lions, as statues or real lions. This must have been a magnificent piece of secular art.
For even more uses of art look at the serpent of brass. God used this piece of art in a very symbolic
way. While the Israelites were wandering in the desert they started to complain and God sent fiery
serpents among the people and many of them died.

Essay on Nothing Like It in the World by Stephen E. Ambrose
Nothing like it in the Word, by Stephen E. Ambrose
The book, Nothing like It in the Word: The Men Who Built the Transcontinental Railroad 1863
1869, by Stephen E. Ambrose, is a concise account of the endeavors of individuals who participated
in the construction of the first American transcontinental railroad (1863 1869), such as the
immigrant laborers, politicians, and businesspersons and their companies. In his descriptions,
Ambrose demonstrates two of the significant themes that dominated the construction activities.
These are immigration and race relationship. This paper aims at describing the relationship between
the two themes as described in Ambrose s book and the American history during that time. It also
looks into how the themes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, they were not well compensated. The CPR paid the Chinese immigrants only $27 per
month, while the UPR paid $35 to the Irish immigrants (Ambrose 302). This was very little
compared to the amount paid to the white workers.
The theme of race relations is also significant in Ambrose s book. For instance, the book indicates
incidences of poor race relation between the Irish and the Chinese immigrants. They often reacted to
each other with hostility. For examples, he describes that the Irish scorned the Chinese immigrants
and sometimes attacked them with pick handles. They also frequently ambushed the Chinese
laborers with heavy powder that badly injured the Chinese. The Chinese also fought back by setting
off unexpected explosion that buried some Irishmen (Ambrose 327). This reflected the entrenched
racism between the two groups.
There was also hostile reaction of the Native Americans towards the immigrants. The Native
Americans believed the railroad posed threat to their existence, since it would displace them from
their lands against the treaties they sighed with the government. They constantly attacked the
laborers who were constructing the railroad. For example, The Chinese immigrants experienced
worse racial discrimination during the work. For instance, the California law from getting full
citizenship prohibited them, yet they were forced to pay tax. The Irish immigrants also faced
hostile reception by the native race.

The Heroine In Homer s The Odyssey
The routine is the enemy of time it makes it fly by. The different types of journeys are the ones that
improve your physical, mental, and spiritual states. It matters more when you learn to be a better
person from the journey.
An example of when the journey matters more than the destination is when you learn to be a better
person from the journey. In The Odyssey by Homer is an epic poem about a man that learns
important lessons on a 20 year journey. An example of this is Though living still I took ship for
holy Troy. Seeing this ghost I grieved, but held her off, though pang on pang of tears. (Homer

Persuasive Essay On Year Round School
As a student who use to attend a year round school, all schools should become year round. Year
round education will be an improvement for students who have never been in a year round school.
There are roughly 3,000 schools enrolled to Year Round Education and more than 2 millions
students in those Year Round schools in the United States. Year Round schooling would help
students cut down on the amount of stress they develop throughout the year. When having a long 3
month summer break you will forget a lot of information that teachers had taught; but if you was to

Stress is one of the main reason why students who go to traditional schools drop out or just don t

of how stress they are. Year round students are not really stressed because they have that three
weeks out of school after the nine weeks unlike traditional schools.
Traditional schools make kids very stressed out and that s what makes the dropout rates goes up
so bad. Students can t handle all the work they have to do and they still have things to do outside

that are in traditional school are. When year round students get out of school for the three weeks

Mcdonald s, Burger King, And Taco Bell
Have you ever wondered what makes a Big Mac so delicious in such a short amount of time?
McDonald s can make your meal in the time it takes you to swerve around the corner of the drive

meal when there is a fast food chain up the block that has dinner in five minutes for half the cost.
With Americans so invested in technology, work, and school, many turn to these unhealthy
choices to save time. This fast food epidemic has led to child obesity, adult obesity, and much
more cases of diabetes. Now, children and even adults don t know the normal food portions to
eat or the correct diet to follow. This paper will go over three major fast food chains, McDonald
s, Burger King, and Taco Bell, the statistics of child obesity, and the effect of unknown
ingredients. With over 36,000 restaurants in 119 countries and 1.9 million employees, McDonald

The Causes Of Al Qaeda And The Attack Of September 11
On September 11, 2001 the United States was attacked by terrorist group name Al Qaeda, they
hijacked four planes and planned on crashing them into American landmarks. Two of the four
planes crashed into the World Trade Center, one plane crashed into the the Pentagon, the last
plane did not make it to intended landmark but, instead crashed into a field. The terrorist attack
on September 11th could not have necessarily have been prevented but, could not has been as
severe. Certain things like lack of government communication, not very thorough background
checks on middle eastern immigrants, lack of proper preparation for possible terrorist attacks
impacted the severity of the situation. On the day of the attack and months prior the government
did not communicate effectively, so it cause the attack to be much worse. Prior to the event
police had been invigilating possible acts of terrorism that could lead to Zacarias Moussaoui,
with all of his information on his computer. Police applied for a search warrant to search through
Moussaoui s computer and were denied, eventually he was accused of being involved in the attack
on September 11th and being in affiliation with Osama Bin Laden. On the day of Al Qaeda s
attack important details were not passed on to the needed government agency. When the first plane
crashed into Tower 1 of the World Trade Center everyone thought that a small commuter plane a
lost control and crashed. When the first Twin Tower was hit police, fire, and

  • 18. Stereotypes In The Babysitter For this week s blog I ve decided to discuss the two dichotomizing views of women portrayed in the first thirty minutes of the horror comedy movie The Babysitter. This horror comedy Netflix original movie tells the story of Cole, a young teenager who is one of the last of his age to still have a babysitter. The film presents two schemas of women in American society: the first as the sexy, young, promiscuous babysitter and the other as the suburban superwoman. The superwoman stereotype is defined by Harris and Sanborn as the portrayal of women who appear to handle the demands of career, marriage, and parenting with amazingly little stress and difficulty (Harris Sanborn, 2014, p. 81). From the babysitter portrayal girls and young women may learn a particular script about what a babysitter should be and/or do. For the superwoman portrayal, women in similar positions may see how easy the mom in this film makes fulfilling these obligations look and again may find themselves lacking in comparison. Both young girls and older women could see this portrayal of the superwoman as the societal average of what a woman should be able to achieve. This could lead young girls to place an expectation on themselves in future. Overall, I found little in these two depictions of women to be supportive of a positive portrayal of women in the ... I strongly disagree with this foolish statement stated by P.W. Botha as he actions were outrageously misguided towards the coloured South Africans, as his alienating and prejudiced intentions extended segregation under apartheid institution. It can be hypothesised that the Apartheid institutional racism of South Africabetween 1948 to 1994 was designed to neglect coloured society as inferior that resulted in political corruption, social discrimination and economic distress as for the intentions of achieving great benefits for the white minority. The matching of the two or the possibility of a couple is built before the sonnet even begins. In the title, Twain , the old word for two is utilized, creating the possibility of a matching, with the most evident combine being the ship and the iceberg. From the 6th stanza onwards, Hardy s lexis recommends that the union of the two powers was fated, an unavoidable occasion planned by some covered up, wild power which is shown in phrases like The Immanent Will (VI, 18) and the Spinner of Years (XI, 31). Despite the fact that these expressions are utilized as a part of his books to signify the powers that work in human life, in the ballad the implicit power Hardy proposes might be nature; the matching of human innovation and nature can be seen unmistakably in the sonnet with all the new advancements of people set against the greater power of nature. Tough talks about that while the Titanic was being assembled, nature as well arranged a vile mate (VII, 19) and, in the following stanza, Hardy makes a feeling of threat in the lines And as the shrewd ship developed/In stature, beauty and tone/In shadowy quiet separation developed the Iceberg as well (VIII, 22 24). • 24. Reinhold Niebhur s Views On Original Sin Reinhold Niebhur s views on Original sin fall in line with my own actually; I do believe that man is inherently evil with power to do good. As much of a blessing that free will is, I believe it to also be a curse because nothing good comes free. With the freedom to make our decisions comes the responsibilty to not only know but also to understand the effects of them. Every action has a reaction, and sin is the reaction to free will. Niebuhr holds that man is responsible for his unintentional sins, even if there was no malice. Man still falls subject to deception. If our minds, which are factors in our free will, can be subjected to manipulation, it is not bizarre to claim that man sins unintentionally and is responsible to correct its actions. Man s biggest flaw is its weakness in the face of temptation because temptation also lies in its heart. Man s free will is inherently corrupted by the temptations of life and the world. While free will pushed man s creativity to what seems to be a limitless boundary, it has also played a part in man s own undoing. Government is one of six core systems in sociology, and is kind of like the central nervous system to the organism. If the government is not working properly, this can affect education, which in turn may affect family dynamics. The point Murray is trying to make is that vocational schools are more effective and logical courses of action for young people entering the job market than is the conventional 4 year university track. This passage, while appearing to offer a simple definition to the reader in order for him or her to be informed of the subject matter argued herein, already states his position in the matter. Murray, possibly on purpose, taints his definition with diction illustrating his bias. This could possibly damage his argument, because though he cites different perspectives, the trouble with expectation, and a solution for these people, making him look like a hero in a way, he also shows himself to be almost prejudiced in the argument. Conversely, later championing the underdog, as he paints those with lower IQs, could potentially make up for his somewhat brazen attitude for some members of his large, and no doubt very disparate, audience. His argument does use pathos a little; citing the lower IQs, and that the people who own them may struggle trying to bend to American culture s demand for a Bachelor s Degree, tends to tug on the emotions of the reader, probably intentionally. • 34. Disengagement Theory And Alzheimer s Disease Disengagement Theory and Alzheimer s Disease There are three core theories that have been established in age related studies. There is the active theory which states that a person should remain active and social. There is the Continuation Theory and states that people who age successfully continue habits that lead to a happy life. Then there is the disengagement theory and this theory will be the focus of the paper. Disengagement theory is the idea that as people age it is expected for them to withdraw from society and take a more limited social role in life. I believe that this theory ties into dementia and Alzheimer s Disease because it is expected that older adults retire and move away from the workforce and society. When we think of Alzheimer s disease it generally is a person who is older in life and withdrawn from the people around them because they lack the ability to recall memories. Through this paper I will talk more about what disengagement theory is and how it was developed and how I believe that it applies to Alzheimer s disease. Finally, I will talk about a method of therapy that is used to combat this social withdrawal seen in the disengagement theory as well as how it is used to treat Alzheimer s disease. As defined by Crossman (Disengagement Theory n.d.) Disengagement theory states that in every society, the elderly undergo a process of adjustment in which they leave important public roles and narrow their social world to family and friends . Alcibiades inability to have a productive sexual relationship effectively castrates him and demonstrates the impotence caused by an overemphasis on eroticism. Many would argue that the hectic lifestyle that a big city provides clearly places it ahead of a suburban landscape. Others, however, would claim that the serene and restful environment of the countryside is much more satisfying than the citycould ever be. It is important to be clear that not all vast cities are the same, and it goes the same way for the suburban regions of America. The city and country lifestyleare two distinct types of living, each with their own pros and cons that may overlap at times. Between these two, there are numerous differences when looking at their environment, distinct social opportunities, and contrastive cost of living. One way or another, all the facts will be laid down, and a deeper insight into why people settle in either the city or the suburbs shall become apparent. The BSN prepared nurse may delegate tasks more effectively to ancillary staff to provide assistance. Perhaps having the aid or ward clerk to call other family or religious affiliations for support. Or by providing the family with privacy and providing frequent updates on the patient s condition and plan of care. Further education would be given to the family to determine what extent of care is to be given. (I.e. maximum care or palliative care). Local-Color Regionalism in Tennessees Partner Essay The literary movement of local color regionalism in American literature is a very distinctive and interesting form of fiction writing that effectively combines regional characteristics, dialect, customs and humor. In Bret Harte s Tennessee s Partner, these characteristics helped the story jump off the page, allowing the reader to understand the times rather than just the characters. And, for that reason, I feel that this is an outstanding piece of work. One of the most distinguishable characteristics of local color regionalism writing is the usage of authentic dialect based on the story s setting. The reader never feels like he knows much at all about any of the characters even Tennessee and his partner at all. In fact, neither does the narrator. But through the use of description, the two main characters become more stereotypes of miners in the Gold Rush era; they were typical rugged, gambling, scorched skinned, strong, simple womanizing men. This much is true with no one more than the title character, as his actions reveal more about the time s concept of death during his friend s execution and burial rather than going too deep into his own personal feelings about this particular death. Tennessee s Partner quickly compares his friend s burial to all the other drunken trips his shouldered with Tennessee in the past and seemingly moves on from the finality of the situation with ease. Lastly, Harte uses the setting as a major element of the story, almost turning the vast land of Tennessee s Partner into a character itself.
