The Effects Of Natural Disasters
Believe it or not, there are certain parts of the country where natural disasters are just apart of the
day to day activity. In other words, it s something residents are familiar with. On the contrary,
natural disasters are events that can cause other residents to experience traumatic stress according
to the Ohio University. Throughout the West Coast, for example, there are earthquakes. The East
and Gulf coast, on the other hand, experience hurricanes. Then throughout the heartland of our
country, there are those violent rotating columns of air we call tornados that rip homes to pieces in
a matter of minutes.
Although these are just a few of disasters, the reality is a disaster like floods, wildfires, winter
storms, and hail can happen at any time. So, with this in mind and given how unpredictable mother
nature is, it s always a good idea to take steps toward reducing your risk of injury by protecting
your home. In return, you and your family will be safer, and your home will be ready to withstand
the fight against those harsh weather conditions. Here are some steps to get started:
Create a Digital Cloud: When the time comes to evacuate your home, there s a good chance you
might forget your computer along with your portable hard drive, which means the pictures you ve
captured over the years could never be seen again. To make matter worse, those important
documents are also at risk of never being seen again depending on the disaster. One way to ensure
that you don t risk

Women In A Scandal In Bohemia And King Solomon s Mines
In both Sir Arthur Conan Doyle s, A Scandal in Bohemia (1891), and H. Rider Haggard s, King
Solomon s Mines (1885), male figures utilize the femme fatale image of the monstrous feminine to
concretize or reaffirm views of a dominant patriarchal power (OED). Specifically, characters such as
Sherlock Holmes and Allan Quartermain, subsequently attempt to debase the influences of female
manipulation and superiority. The expression of this thematic trend occurs primarily through the
tension of ignorance versus insight, and the recurring images of dehumanization. As such, these
tropes express within each text the attempts of men to degrade women s inherent authority.
When considering Irene Adler, from A Scandal in Bohemia, and Gagool, from King Solomon s
Mines, the tension of ignorance versus insight is essential in preliminarily introducing the
characters position within the femme fatale role. Just as a femme fatale is by definition a woman,
who destabilizes male control, both Adler and Gagool use their exclusive access to information to
subvert male desires and boundaries of class (OED). For instance, Irene Adler exploits her
possession of compromising letters and photographs to blackmail the King of Bohemia and so, ruin
(him) by jeopardizing his marriage to another woman (Doyle, A Scandal in Bohemia). Thereby, she
exemplifies the image of the femme fatale by threatening the monarchy s stability with issues of
scandal while, alternately, ensuring that her

The Vagina Monologue
I attended the Vagina Monologues on Monday February 27th. It was very informative and
intriguing event. There were moments where I would laugh, while other moments I shed a tear.
This event involved 5 women sitting in chairs side by side. Each one told a story of who they
were portraying to be. One story involved rape, one was about an old lady, another was about a
preexisting lawyer, and many others. Their attire consisted of coordinated black white and red
attire. They all had their own specific body language and spark that moved the crowd. To start, I
knew the basics of a women s body. I know the anatomy and the functions of each parts. The
monologue didn t go into depth about how the body works or the physical appearance, in fact they

Cyanide ( Cn- ) Compounds And Deviations Of It
Cyanide (CN anion) compounds and deviations of it (HCN, KCN) have been in use for many
years as poisons in various settings. In Ancient Egypt plants containing trace concentrations of
cyanide have been used as lethal poisons and in World War II HCN was employed with a base to
mass exterminate millions of people in Nazi camps. Another historically used method of cyanide
poisoningis through gas chambers created by addition of a cyanide salt into an acid to create HCN
(g). Although many forms of cyanide exist, the most common is HCN, which naturally is released
into the atmosphere from plants, volcanoes and bacteria/fungi. The primary source of cyanide
poisoning in humans is through accidental ingestion of plants. More than 2,000 plant species
contain cyanogenic glycosides that when ingested can be rapidly hydrolyzed into cyanide. This
rapid hydrolysis occurs when cell structure of the plant is disturbed thus plant products that are
incorrectly processed may lead to cyanide poisoning. Cyanogenic compounds are present in
surprisingly large number of common foods such as sweet potatoes, cassava, bamboo and lima
beans1. An area of growing concern is inhalation of tobacco smoke, which is another common
source of cyanogenic compounds. Many idiopathic syndromes have been shown to be associated
with failure in detoxification mechanisms specifically targeting cyanide compounds2.
Symptoms of cyanide poisoning generally mimic those of suffocation or climbing mountains at high

Niyazov And Isolation
1984, is a book that was published in 1949 and written by George Orwell. His reason for writing
the book was the hope that humans would read it and come to a realization that our world was
headed toward a dictator like or tyrannical style of government. Some ignorant people living in
first world countries might say that he was wrong, but those smart enough know just how right he
was. These terrifying places are very much real in the world today. The people living in these
cruel environments are often times isolated by their leaders and told they are living in the best
country in the world, and that their reason of isolation is to keep the rest of the world out. The
harsh reality is that these people are actually being starved, neglected,... Show more content on

Maybe it has to do with their early life, for example, Niyazov being orphaned starting from a very
young age after the death of most of his mother and father ( Obituary: Saparmurat Niyazov ).
Perhaps though, it has nothing to do with our upbringing, and maybe it only our internal hunger
for power is to blame. Whichever way that created a person as monstrous as Niyazov, definitely
created something huge. During Niyazov s rule he controlled everything he possibly could.
Controlling the minds of his people was his specialty. Forcing them to have the will to change
their beliefs, their routines, their individuality, was one of the reasons Niyazov succeeded in
being one of the world s dictators ( Saparmurat Niyazov. ) Turkmenbashi put many laws in place
of ridiculous nature, because he able to. He named some of the months and days of the weeks
after his family. Only six years after he had become President, he ban smoking because after a
major heart surgery he had quit. Other things like music, dance, and long hair on men were also
halted, simply because he did not like them ( Obituary: Saparmurat Niyazov ). Niyazov also
neglected his citizens. He starved worked his people to the bone. Today, Turkmenistan is lead by a
man who works in a very similar way to that of Niyazov. His name is Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov,
and he has transitioned the country to start favoring him over their old great leader and they have
begun to be recreate the country for the new President. Berdimuhamedov has not changed much
other than that though. He is running things in the same type of dictatorship that Turkmenbashi left
behind. The people in the country are still isolated, without any freedoms or necessary rights
provided to them. ( Saparmurat

Feasibility Study BOUTIQUE (Women Designer Wear) INTRODUCTION 1.1 Project Brief The
pre feasibility study focuses on the establishment of women designer wear Kapra Boutique
including the operations of apparel designing, manufacturing, selling and marketing. The study has
been designed to capture the dynamics of the Kapra Boutique industry, with its many components
and possible strategic opportunities. 1.2 Opportunity Rationale Clothing is a beautiful visual
demonstration of the social and emotional needs of people wearing it. It also portrays in a clearly
understood visual manner, what people of different cultures and styles want socially. Fashion,
through times, has gone through so many rapid changes and bizarre extremes that it has examples
of nearly every kind of clothing function. However, in a Kapra boutique business, the
specifications and descriptions of the designs and clothes are so general that they can fit more than
one costume, which actually are quite different in nature from each other and this is solely
dependent on the taste of the people. The range of Pakistani dresses is remarkably wide, according
to the vast cultures, geographical differences, purchasing capacities, influence of the western
culture, and bewildering diversities of

Impact Of Sociobiology On Theology
9. Discuss sociobiology and its possible impacts on theology. (10 points) Sociobiology is the
scientific study of the biological (especially ecological and evolutionary) aspects of social behavior
in animals and humans. The implications of sociobiology for theology are developed with respect
to the general impact of basic evolutionary ideas, the reductionist assumptions of sociobiologists,
whether or not survival can be a value, and more holistic accounts of the physical and biological
grounding of the mental and spiritual lives of human beings. An often heard criticism of
sociobiology accuses it of justifying existing injustices. For example, opponents say sociobiology
supports the belief that people of darker skin color are intellectually inferior to those with lighter
skin. Additionally, opponents suggest that following what sociobiology says is human nature only
continues the injustices. In reality, sociobiology really does not support this interpretation.
Biological inclinations contain what many would consider both altruistic and evil. To discriminate
between them and to emphasize the more appropriate is the task of social reflection.... Show more

Yet, he continues, no one knows the actual connections between genes and behavior, nor do they
know how genes tell a person what to do. A response could be that this is a question for future
research. But this response is weak, as it can be applied to almost every argument in existence.
Peacocke also points to ethical codes not being uniform. Sometimes the ethical codes oppose what
biology would require leaving these ethical codes as inadequate where they encounter biology.
Thus, morality cannot really be thought of as being produced mechanically by biology. Each
culture can add to and change the basic biological norms, even making the resulting morals oppose

Death Of Death By Radiation
Death By Radiation
Nickolas Natali
California Baptist University, College of Engineering
Abstract
WHAT:
In 1985, a Canadian built radiation treatment device began obliterating holes through patients
bodies. The Therac 25, designed and developed by AECL (Atomic Energy Canadian Limited) was
an advanced linear accelerator that could speed up electrons turning them into a high energy beam
that annihilated surface tumours on the skin, or could converted the electrons into x rays to
penetrate tumours deeper within the body. The Therac 25 was the latest and greatest version of the
French company s previous models, the Therac 6 and Therac 20. One million dollars were
invested into this machine to give radiation treatments to cancer patients. Most of the patients
receiving treatment from the Therac 25 had already endured a form of surgery to remove the
majority of the tumour and were using the Therac 25 as a means of eliminating any leftover
growth. This high powered radiation machine was controlled by a computer from a separate room
to protect the operator from being exposed to any unnecessary, moreover unwanted, doses of
radiation.
As previously stated, the Therac 25 had two main functionalities: low energy and high energy. To
be clear, low energy consists of an electron beam of [roughly] 200 rads that was meant to be aimed
directly at the patient. High energy mode consisted of turning the machine to full

Bubonic Plague Christianity
In the events of the Bubonic Plague, religions took a different response in this therefor Christians
and Muslims are the two most researchers thought about during this time. This paper will guide
you through what they did, how it affected them, and what they believed. Both religions thought
up of some things that could prevent or get rid of the plague. Christianity thought it was a curse
and Muslims said it was a blessing. Let s move on to the first point of this paper, Christianity. In
England, it is said that the death rate of the citizens is thirty three percent. At the end of the plague,
the population was 2.8 million, but at the start of the plague it was around 4.2 million. In 1348,

There was debate about where or how the Black Death has spread from China all the way to
England. Michael Dols helped with where it traveled to, Michael was a traveler during this time

some even more. Both drank liquefied Armenian clay to prevent from getting it, most died from
doing this but they had hope. Both thought that the causes of this is was miasma, both had
different reasons why it was a miasma. The background essay was part of both religion responses
of the Black Death. As a result of the Black Death, Christians and Muslims were the major religions
to respond to this event. One would still say, people do not know much about the Bubonic plague.
To repeat, Christians were the ones to take this event to the next level, when they started burning
the Jews. Muslims just thought of it has a blessing. Muslims was the ones to bring all ethnic
groups together in worship and prayer after the plague. Readers would think of it has help to one
another or more like allies. For this it proves that religions respond to things different than

How Does Harry Potter Affected Pop Culture
For as long a literature has been around, books have been written that define the culture of a
generation, though some leave lasting changes in pop culture. When the first Harry Potter was
accepted to be published many years ago nobody was prepared for the enormous success the
series would have. The series captured a massive following from the beginning, turning a simple
seven book series into a franchise. Though I may not be an expert on literature, I have read the
entire Harry Potterseries multiple times and am a big fan of the book. I have also researched the
effect of the books on pop culture and have come to the conclusion that Harry Potter has embedded
itself into pop culture and changed it in the process.

characters, the Harry Potter books have captured the attention of young readers and got them to

found that the series has not only had a positive impact on children s views towards reading but
it has also improved the quality of their school work (Garlick). Reading ability and the ability to

The Genetic Disorder Or Autoimmune Disease
A.Who first discovered the genetic disorder or autoimmune disease? Kraepelin recognized
biological causes of mental illnesses. He is believed to be the first person to seriously study
mental illnesses. Kraepelin s Manic Depressive Insanity and Paranoia in 1921 detailed the
difference between manic depressive and praecox, which is now known as schizophrenia.
B. Is the disease state recessive or dominant? One study has also found a higher frequency in
families where the disorder is inherited from mothers. A particular case inquiry may be considered,
assuming that bipolar affective disorder can be inherited as a sex linked recessive trait or as an
autosomal recessive trait.
C. Differentiate between recessive or dominant? The difference between the two is that it depends
on the parents in which one or the both have the gene that is dominant but in which chase if it is
recessive it would not get passed down.
D. Is it a chromosomal abnormality? Although there is compelling evidence from twin, family, and
adoption studies to support strong genetic determinants for bipolar affective disorder, the
underlying molecular genetic basis for this condition remains poorly understood. The identification
of the genes responsible for major psychiatric illnesses such as bipolar disorder would greatly
enhance our understanding of etiology, as well as open new avenues for the development of more
specific and effective treatments.

Suicide is the act of deliberately killing oneself. According to World Health Organization data most

In 19th century in Europe there is rapid increase in suicide. The case of death can be positive
action such as jumping from an upper window or negative action such as hunger strike. Durkheim
eliminates psychotic paranoid suicide because it is non sociological explanation of suicide and it is
not the result of self concise aim. The factor correlation between mental disorder and self
destruction varies considerably.
Scotland had comparatively high level of lunacy but there is low level self destruction. While
Saxony showed a low level of lunacy but a high rate of self destruction. Alcohol addiction and
substance abuse are eliminated by Durkheim (Law, 2011, p.200). Undoubtedly, race itself is
abolished as an irrational concept. In the month of summer and at temperature degrees of latitude
(50 55 degrees), there are more suicide cases because when communion is most competency

Durkheim examines is imitation. Durkheim differing the suicide rates among protestant and
catholic, he argues that stronger social control among catholic result in lower suicide rates.
According to Durkheim, catholic society has normal levels of integration while protestant society
has low levels. He says that suicide rates are higher in men than in women. Suicides rates are
higher among those who are not in relationship than those who are married. Because of the being
single, the women do not have children so there is more suicide case in

Several multinational companies sponsored the UEFA Champions League. According to the policies
of the league, not more than eight companies should only sponsor a match. The game played on
3rd June 2017 was sponsored by Nissan, Heineken, MasterCard, Gazprom and PepsiCo companies.
During the match, the companies were allocated advertising boards that were visible on the
perimeter wall of the field used by the players.
Similarly, in both leagues, fans remain cheerful all through to the end of the match. For example,
even though Juventus fans were disappointed especially during the second half of the match, they
cheered their team to the end. They encouraged the players to keep on until the end. They only
stopped after the game had ended and their team had lost to the opponents. Likewise, United States
show support to their specific teams all through the match. Additionally, in both teams, fans enter
and cheer their teams by raising banners for the teams playing. Most fans put on attires with similar
colors as those of the playing teams.
Both UEFA Champions League fans and those in the United States do not behave in any manner
that may suggest hooliganism. The match played on 3rd of June 2017 was calm with no case of a
misdemeanor from the fans. Consequently, fans in America also maintain their cool even when
they lose to their opponents. I observed that the Juventus supporters were sorrowful. Despite this
fact, the fans did

did not seem to get any value out of it she took it out of her mouth and put it down right away.
Almost as if she was able to perceive that it would not feed her or do much for her. Her eyes
never were fixed on one spot for longer than a few minutes either. She constantly was looking
around, really observing everything that was around her. By two months Adeline is able to not
only stare at faces but also start to perceived them and by three months, she will start to focus
more on the eyes and mouths (Book, 98). She is already at the three month mark though, as both
her mother and I took turns making a smiley face and then a frowny face to which she changed
her reaction. When we smiled her eyes opened up bigger and she had a social smile on her face.
When we frowned she did not smile and got a look of sadness on her face as well. You could tell
cognitively that she was really starting to perceive and interpret what our faces meant. Hearing,
which develops in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy, was another way she took in her environment

The Woman in Black Review Essay
The Woman in Black Review
Upon the arrival in London my anticipation was high. My first impression of the Fortune Theatre
was; it was a very old Victorian building, very small and slightly ragged. Upon entering it felt
very cramped and made you feel claustrophobic. The atmosphere was eerie due to the old style of
the building. This was particularly effective as the play was set in the Victorian period. This made

Images were also shone on to a translucent curtain showing at the position of the actors. This
included a crucifix. This was effective as it was a very overpowering image, which embraces the
audience as it is the first scary moment of the play. The other image was of the house in which the
Woman in Black haunts. It gives you a mental representation of what the building would look like.
Upon seeing this building, it was obvious a catastrophe was immanent.
The lighting also represented where they were. For instance the actors were on a train and the
windows of another train passed. This made you jump and started a continuous pattern of many
frights to come.
Sometimes the lack of lighting built up the atmosphere. At one time the stage was dark until the
actor lit a match which illuminated his face. The effect of this was astonishing, such a simple
thing as a match built up the scene immediately. The match was very effective because it was
less bright than a spotlight and would not show off the surroundings. A torch was also used in
the same way as the match but was just as effective as it showed a specific area. After seeing this
used I realised how effective low light can be to create suspense and confusion. Sometimes the
light came as a relief for the audience. In the first half of the play whenever there was a scary part
normal lighting would come in to effect and give the audience relief from the intenseness.
This almost gave the audience

The Battle Of Yorktown By George Washington
The Battle of Yorktown is known as the battle that separated the United States from Great Brittan.
The purpose of this paper is that I will discuss the events that led up to the battle, the battle itself, the
outcome, and a specific event that, if changed, might have changed the outcome of the war. There
are multiple events that may have changed the outcome; within this paper I will discuss one, and
that will be, what if George Washingtons diversionary orders didn t deceive the British. On
September 28, 1781 General George Washington started his siege on Yorktown, where the British
General Lord Charles Cornwallis garrisoned his 9,000 troops. Those actions are just the final steps
that won the battle and solidified the United States as an independent nation. The real beginning of
the Battle of Yorktown started in August of 1781 when the French army led by French Commander,
the Comte de Rochambeau, convinced General Washington to attack Yorktown instead of New
York. The Comte de Rochambeau Stated to General Washington, that if he was to attack New York
that they would suffer a great deal of casualties due to the British s well fortification of the area and
that the attack wouldn t succeed. General Washington was convinced by his ally s concern, so on
August 19, 1781 the French and United States Continental ArmyBegan their march to Yorktown in
order to crush Lord Charles Cornwallis and his recent string of victories. General Washington
wanted the element of surprise when

Celebrated Jumping Frog
Knute Rockne, a former football coach for the University of Notre Dame once said, Win or lose,
do it fairly. However, in Mark Twain s story The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County,
the main character, otherwise known as Smiley, does not live by this saying. The story of Smiley
and his celebrated jumping frog takes place in a gold mining camp, which is located in Calaveras
County, California, during the Gold Rush era. The dominant theme in The Celebrated Jumping
Frog of Calaveras County, is that trying to deceive someone can result in unexpected consequences.
Several literary devices, including characters, satire, and diction, are applied to the plot of the short
storyin order to emphasize the primary theme.

The prominent choices of diction which appear on the first page of Twain s short story, some
examples include, lurking suspicion and he backed me into a corner and blockaded me with his
chair. . The diction helps foreshadow the deception that occurs later on in the story; furthermore,
the choice of diction suggests intelligence, which means that someone of higher intelligence is
foreshadowed to try and deceive someone of lower intelligence despite the fact there are
consequences. The dialogue of Smiley being accounted by Simon Wheezler, he ketched a frog
one day and took him home and said he cal klated to edercate him (Twain 3), contains diction that
emphasizes the lack of a formal education. By using diction that suggests lack of intelligence and
education, Twain is able to use the theme of deception ending with unexpected consequences to
showcase that probability that people with lower intelligence have a hard time learning of their
mistakes, especially when deceived. The final example of diction, well I don t see no p ints about
that frog that s any better n any other frog, (Twain 4), highlights another person with a lack of
education, but this person has more intelligence or at least more awareness than the people Smiley
usually tricks, which will eventually make it harder for Smiley to deceive him; thus, being unable
to deceive him means

Summer Concert Report
Being in the Youth Orchestras of Fresno for the past 5 years, I have had the pleasure of working
on some of the most incredible pieces in orchestra literature. I ve been a part of some special
concerts, like performing Stravinsky s Rite of Spring, Bernstein s On the Waterfront, Symphony
No. 12 by Shostakovich, Short Ride in a Fast Machine by Adams, and Mussorgsky s Pictures at an
Exhibition, but there is one piece in particular that has made a huge impact on me and many people

It made me realize that this drought has had a huge impact, and how a lot of people in California
aren t really taking this situation very seriously. After the premiere in Fresno, and performing
Water(less) Music again at the Walt Disney Concert Hall the following summer, I started to
become more aware of the amount of water that my family and I have been using. I never
imagined that my actions, such as allowing water to run while brushing my teeth or having the
sprinklers on too long, could cause hardship for people in the Central Valley. Since the Central
Valley is an agriculture based economy, the drought has caused many people a loss in crops,
income, and even jobs. It actually affected my family directly. My grandfather is a raisin farmer
and has experienced a decrease in the size of his crop over the last five years.
The word drought can have different meanings to different people, depending on how a shortage
of water affects them. I will always remember how performing this piece impacted my
understanding of the drought. As I look into the next few years of my life, and consider the
possibility of moving out of California for college, I will always remember to conserve water no
matter where I live. The experience of premiering Water(less) Music gave me a deeper appreciation
for the importance of water that I once

Pain Intervention In Hypnosis
Since infancy and up until death, most people experience some type of pain in their life. Pain is
the body s way of letting a person know that they have just encountered something harmful and
possibly life threatening.1 It is used as a defense mechanism to warn a person to cease activity,
fight and/or run from the threat, and possibly seek help.1 (Modalities) Chad Starkey quotes the
International Association for the Study of Painwhen defining pain as an unpleasant sensory and
emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage or described in terms of
such damage. 1 Psychological and emotional factors can help to influence this actual or perceived
experience. While it is useful in defending the body from potential or further harm, pain can

psychological methods to help relieve pain. One of these methods includes hypnosis and the use of
hypnotherapy to alter the perception of pain and unpleasant sensations. The American Society of
Clinical Hypnosis defines hypnosis as a state of inner absorption, concentration, and focused

Media Discrimination In The Media
1.Title IX signed into law on June 23rd, 1972 by President Richard M. Nixon states that no
person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be
denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity
receiving federal financial assistance. (Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, 44 Fed.
Reg. at 71413). Since this law was enacted we have seen a dramatic increase in female sports
participation. Tile IX has had a positive impact on female athletes as females now make up over
40% of college athletes... compared to two percent before the time of the legislation
(Staurowsky Weight, 2001, Pg. 190). Although Title IX has increased participation of female
athletes it has not aided in achieving equality for women and girls in sports. I believe the barriers
that prevent equality for female athletes can be broken down into two categories media coverage,
and public perception. The media has majority control over what the public believes is important
and most recently female athletes received 1.6% of television coverage, 4.9% of magazine covers,
and only 9.7% of featured sports articles (Fink, 2015). Not only do female athletes not get enough
media coverage, but when they do the focus is often on their physical appearance, femininity, and
/ or heterosexuality (Fink, 2015, Pg. 331). This coverage creates a negative public perception
toward female athletes. Thus the public believes that sports

Differences Between Pitheciidae And The Remaining...
Opazo et al. (2006) conducted an analysis and found that among the six loci used in their study,
two of them supported the hypothesis which suggests that the first split was between Pitheciidae
and the remaining platyrrhines, which grouped Atelidae and Cebidae together (Chavez et al.,
1999) and one of the loci supported the hypothesis of Ateliedae and Pitheciidae being sister
group of the family Cebidae (Canavez et al., 1999). These results therefore indicate that there was
an initial radiation in the early Miocene which separated the three families from one another.

record. Palaentological evidence thus far describes Doliochocebus as a fossil of cebine, in the
clade that includes extant members of genus Saimiri (Szalay and Delson, 1979). Based on
estimations of the origin of the subfamily Cebinae which was 18 million years ago, this fossil
was in fact the stem of the subfamily. Also, Stirtonia was considered to be an alouattinin fossil
(Szalay and Delson, 1979) and according to their results the split between Alouatta and the
remaining members of the family occurred 16 million years ago (Opazo et al., 2006 p. 279), a
result that also agrees with the fossil record. Furthermore, the fossil pitheciid Cebupithecia is one
of the most complete skeletons of a fossil platirrhine and believes to be dated near the time of the
most recent common ancestor of the total group. By using the molecular clock, the split between
the lineage that eventually led to Callicebus and the lineage leading to the other pitheiid genera
occurred after the divergence of Callicebus but before the divergence of Pithecia, Cacajao, and
Chiropotes (Opazo et al,. 2006, p. 294). Wildman et al. (2009) however, inferred that Pitheciidae is
the sister taxon to the other two platyrrhine families, Cebidae and Ateliedae. Their data confidently

The Importance Of Knowledge And Personal Knowledge
Knowledge, awareness or familiarity gained by experience of a fact or situation, is obtained in a
myriad of ways whether through media, family, peers, and/or one s personal experiences. There
are also different kinds of knowledge: personal and shared knowledge.
(Hetherington 1). Personal knowledge is knowledge that is created by a person s own knowledge
of a concept or situation; on the other hand, shared knowledge represents the knowledge that a
community of people know as a fact for them. The claim We know with confidence only when we
know little; with knowledge doubt increases is supported by natural scientific theories, education,
and personal experiences like personal relationships while the claim can be countered by examples
of the media bias and the 2017 presidential election. The knowledge issue is assessed using history,
natural science, and human science as ways of knowing; as well as, perception, limitations, and
uncertainties as knowledge concepts.

In Natural Science, The Theory of Evolution is a network of theories that have formed the very
basis of biology today. Before Darwin, the first scientist to confidently state his ideas about
biological change (O Neill 2) was Jean Baptiste Chevalier de Lamarck. He believed that evolution
occurs when an organism uses a part of their body to the point where it changes during its lifetime
and the acquired characteristic is inherited by offspring. Even though his theory about evolution

The Concept Of Education In Mona Lisa Smile
There are two ways in which one leads a classroom of young entrepreneurs of learning. These
forms of education are concreted in either a banking concept or problem posing approach. Paulo
Freire, the creator of such ideas, is a man who believes in the distinct difference that either reaps
learning or destroys it. Banking concept education, according to Freire, is an education that
becomes an act of depositing, in which the students are the depositories and the teacher is the
depositor (Freire 244). In simpler terms, banking concept is the lack of true understanding by
students. Learning is not a responsibility, instead it is an act to passively check off the list. In
contrast, Freire speaks of problem posing as liberating education [that] consists in acts of cognition,
not transferrals of information (Freire 249). To expand, Freire is bringing to light that this type of
education is the development of genuine, active understanding between teachers and students.
Freire believes in critical, investigative work between teachers and students. He believes that the
banking concept restricts growth and keeps students and teachers from a true critical understanding
of the world. Both banking concept education and problem posing education are evident in the
film Mona Lisa Smile. Mona Lisa Smile, a film set in 1953, is a vivid look into Freire s
understanding of education. The 1950s, a time of distinct gender roles and spoon fed understanding,
promotes an environment at the heart

In that case, Sailed Air would perform in a safe zone with well known products and respect its
culture of innovative products manufacturer. However, we found that this strategy would not
acknowledge the reality of the change in the market, which is the strong demand of cheaper
product and the growing presence of GAFCEL. Eventually, Sealed Air could compromise its
leadership by allowing GAFCEL to develop and expand to become a significant market player.
2) Merger or Acquisition to defend market share. Considering two options: a) Acquire its closest
competitor and licensee Astro Packaging. This operation would allow Sealed Air to get a critical
size and increase its revenue to mitigate the impact of the raise of GAFCEL. The disadvantage of
this option is that it won t provide a significant competitive advantage due to inferiority of Astro s

to enter the market of uncoated products. We think that this is the right response for Sealed Air in
this situation. The investment in PPE required to produce uncoated products are limited. Therefore,

quite a bit. The cross shaped floor plan allows the maximum amount of tanks while providing a

aquarium was once a home to otters, however, they started to create too much of an odor so they
had to be removed. There was once also a large shrunken pool under the dome that was home to an
alligator and turtles.
At the time of its opening, the Aquarium was among the sixth largest in the world (Austin). High

The water was recycled through the tanks because, according to marine preservationists, fish
survive better in water they have already lived in (Austin). Originally, an 8,531 gallon center

Importance Of Wildlife Conservation
In the 1960s, there was a dramatic increase in the interest in conservation in India, driven
especially by non governmental Indian and US ecologists. The Bombay Natural History Society
(BNHS) helped to set up an Indian branch of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in the late 1960s.
Along with the Smithsonian Institute and other US ecologists, the BNHS also helped to organise
the 1969 International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) conference held in New
Delhi. In the 1970s, the Indian government took over almost all responsibility for conservation
from international organisations and scientists. At this point, the Indian Forest Service and all
wildlife concerns were dealt with in the Ministry of Agriculture. In 1972, the Wildlife Protection
Act was passed. This act included a list of endangered and threatened Indian flora and fauna, and
laid out the criteria for creating and managing protected areas (like national parks and wildlife
sanctuaries). It tasked the Indian Forest Service (IFS) with the running of protected areas and
with wildlife conservation. It is also very much involved with lumber extraction contracts and
controls the use of and access to minor forest products of importance to tribal or poor populations.
The IFS is basically a combination of what would be the Forestry Service, the Fish and Wildlife
Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the National Park Service and individual states
department of natural resources in the United States (Lewis, 2005) .

Research on the Logistics and Mechanisms of Attention
Attention is a mechanism directly involved in the selection, distribution and maintenance of
processing resources, which determines our ability to process complex and multiple stimuli from
our environment and is crucial to our success and survival. Given the large magnitude of visual
information we encounter every day, the existence of a selective mechanism at a conscious and
unconscious level that regulates what we pay attentionto is indisputable; it has even been
conceptualized as a supramodal mechanism that distributes cognitive resources according to task
complexity and motivation (Salthouse , Rogan Prill , 1984). Initially conceived as a single
spotlight alternating amongst foci (Tiffin, Knight Jackson, 1946), attention is now understood to be
beneficial due to its capacity to divide. Nevertheless, there is a limit in scope and manner, so we
are constantly promoting the priority processing of certain information in the presence of multiple
stimuli (RossellГі, 1999). Understanding the logistical constrains behind this prioritization and
allocation of resources is thus important from a theoretical perspective (Vergauwe et al., 2010), but
also due to its practical implications in various fields such as the military, sports, transportation,
safety and education (Strayer Johnston, 2001; Gingerich Lineweaver, 2014).
Generally, these constrains have been studied in two specific domains: space and time. Regarding
space, visual search paradigms explore how stimulus

Whether a Cut in Corp Tax Rate be Beneficial Essay
Whether a Cut in Corp Tax Rate be Beneficial Doesn t everyone want to keep what he/she has

If the risk is too great and a feeling of uneasiness sets in on Wall Street, investors may begin to
sell that firm s stock, dropping the market price per share and possibly the value of the firm
itself. The reasoning? Simple: if the price of the share decreases, then there is a possibility that
when the time came for a favorable risk adjustment, investors would be paying a lower price per
share than the firm is really worth. The amount of equity that they would receive from their
outstanding shares would decrease. Also, if the tax rates rise and the company has been deemed
riskier than before, some insiders may begin to sell their shares of the firm. When this hits the
market, it sends a negative signal to investors to sell, which will dump excessive shares onto the
market. Conversely, if the degree of risk is not in excessive measures, investors might purchase
more shares in hopes that the increased risk will yield a higher rate of return; a classic example of
the risk return trade off.
Along with market performance, a firm may need to adapt its financial activities as well. These
activities all relate to the way the firm is organized, in particular, its capital structure. Included in
capital structure is the aspect of convertible bonds. These bonds can be converted to a specified
amount of common stock. The downside of these convertible stocks and bonds is that they have the
potential of diluting the Earnings Per Share (EPS)

Symbolism of Nature in Poems
In literature, writers often use symbols of nature to symbolize emotion and reflection. Flowers
may symbolize life as drought may symbolize death and a loss of hope. In the poems The Road
Not Taken, Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening, and A Poison Tree, Frost and Wordsworth
use the shallow image of a flowerand the woods to symbolize a change of emotion and thought in
one s life. Two roads diverging in different directions lead to an unknown destination because no
one knows where the paths will take them. The two paths in the woods are symbolic for there
being many choices in life. The speaker also depicts the two paths with leaves covering both
equally, which shows that both are mysterious and lead to somewhere unknown to the person
traveling it. Also, that no matter what choice is made do not look back, but to keep moving
forward. For example in the poem the speaker says, I took the one less traveled by, and that has
made all the difference. (536) it depicts that the person is picking the path not commonly chosen
by others even if it does not lead to good things. It may be much more difficult, and although it is
going against everyone it has set the speaker apart from others. The woods are used as a symbol
of a passage to temptation and darkness in the poem, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening .
It is also described as a place of glamour that has diverted the speaker from fulfilling the promise.
The poem uses the horse with the bell attached to it as a

Errors and Omissions Insurance: A Realtor s Must Have
No one s perfect. No matter how carefully realtors do their jobs provide training, conduct thorough
research, put a variety of controls in place, and accumulate years, even decades of experience
mistakes happen.
In addition, realtors can t possibly control everything their agents do and say all the time. For
example:
An agent sells the wrong lot of land
An agent fails to follow up on an email that includes an inspection report. The lack of oversight
results in a suit that was three times the purchase price of the home.
An agent flees the state after making a deal, leaving the clients and the realty company in trouble.
Worse still, frivolous claims can be made against an agency. Even from those unfounded or
frivolous claims, legal expenses must be paid no matter who wins in court, and those costs can be
devastating to a realtor s time and finances.

Essay on Kokoro and the Parallels of Historical Events
Throughout history artists have used art as a means to reflect the on goings of the society
surrounding them. Many times, novels serve as primary sources in the future for students to
reflect on past history. Students can successfully use novels as a source of understanding past
events. Different sentiments and points of views within novels serve as the information one may
use to reflect on these events. Natsume Soseki s novel Kokoro successfully encapsulates much of
what has been discussed in class, parallels with the events in Japan at the time the novel takes
place, and serves as a social commentary to describe these events in Japan at the time of the Mejeii
Restoration and beyond. Therefore, Kokoro successfully serves as a primary... Show more content

Soseki lived through the Mejeii Restoration and more than likely encountered many different
Japanese views of Westerners. Here, it seems as if Soseki is playing devil s advocate to popular
belief and describing this particular Westerner as non threatening and willing to take up
Japanese customs and ways of living. Soseki may have been trying to reveal the dominant belief
(as described above by Duus) may have not been the only sentiment of whites in Japanese
society. In fact, Soseki may be trying to reveal there were Westerners who successfully accepted
Japanese traditions and customs. The narrator s awe of this Westerner seems to reveal and
highlight this point by his surprise that Westerners like this existed who were willing to adopt
Japanese culture in a non threatening fashion. The role of women is also depicted at length
within Kokoro in a few ways. As Sensei describes in his letter the way him and his wife came to
be married (her mother and father choosing her husband for her), this point is described by Duus.
Duus describes the heads of the households as the one to choose marriage partners for their family
members. He describes children having to receive parental permission before getting married. In
Kokoro this is highlighted as Sensei must receive his future wife s permission before wedding her.
In fact, her parents chose the Sensei as her husband before she or he even asked permission by

Deborah Tannen
Beginning in the late 1800 s, the feminist movement grasped third world females by the arm and
dragged them along the never ending fight for equality. The fight for the equality of the sexes has
accomplished many victories from granting women the right to vote in 1920 to banning female
genital mutilation in Nigeria just this year. Feminism brought numerous inequalities to light in the
past years, but one of the most underrated struggles fought by females of all ages everyday often
gets overlooked. Young girls still face large amounts of inequality in the classroom. Deborah
Tannen tackled this often glazed over topic in her essay How Maleand FemaleStudents Use
Language Differently. The essay primarily focuses around Tannen s experiences

She believes that because women generally have smaller groups of friends, they feel
uncomfortable talking in areas with more people. And since men use their words to fight for a
higher place in their social hierarchy, they feel more comfortable arguing in a large group.
While this may be true for some cases, Tannen completely disregards the fact that women also
use words to fight for dominance. Girls are simply more discrete about it. Instead of arguing and
exchanging playful insults and put downs, (Tannen 2) women talk behind each others backs and
ruin each other s appearance that way. Arguments with females are much more verbal than
physical as they can be with guys. So if anything, women use language to argue and debate more
than men. This completely goes against Tannen s original thought that women don t use language
to compete, and it doesn t explain why women talk less in class. At a young age parents tell little
girls to be quiet and ladylike. This creates the stereotype that girls do not argue or debate. Girls
simply do not participate in large group debates because they are raised to be calm and soft

The Military Coup In Honduras
The military coup was launched by the country s handful of ultra wealthy families who control
most of the nation s economy. Thousands of Hondurans protested the coup, but they were
physically beaten by the Honduran military. It was an indicative onset as the coup launched a
dramatic shift towards brutal fascism under the Pepe Lobo administration. Honduras had a serious
problem with violence and corruption long before Lobo took over, but his response made the
problems much worse by militarizing the police force. The former Police Commissioner MarГa
Luisa Borjas admitted, It s scarier to meet up with five police officers on the streets than five gang
members. Mind you, Honduras has by far highest murder rate in the world with gang violence...

Thus, the human rights record of the HernГЎndez administration has been even worse than Lobo s.
As a result, politically motivated violence has seemingly increased. In fact, the former leader of a
Honduran police death squad and SOA graduate, Juan Carlos El Tigre Bonilla, was hired as the
national police chief. With Bonilla at the helm, the Associated Press reported in 2013 about roughly
150 murders by state sponsored death squads in the capital city alone with more in the surrounding
areas. It has been made clear to the State Department that no units under General Bonilla s control
should receive U.S. assistance without credible information refuting the serious allegations against
him, said Sen. Patrick Leahy (D VT). Yet, the Obama administration has supported the HernГЎndez
administration and offered further economic assistance to Honduras. This is an obvious unspoken
message to the rest of the world, particularly Latin America. The U.S. will support your regime as

Human Sexuality In Early Adulthood
In this paper, I will be writing a personal journal entry in response to the textbook, Human
Sexuality in a World of Diversity (9th ed.) written by Spencer Rathus, Jeffery Nevid, and Lois
Fichner Rathus (2014). They write about genital play in children and that sexual curiosity can
develop as early as one year. I agree that children have a natural curiosity about body parts, what
they do, and how they feel. I think it is appropriate for children to learn the correct body part
terminology and have self exploration. The textbook further discusses that around the age of two
years old children can engage in genital play with other children, which could include genital
hugging, cuddling, and kissing. I do not think that it is appropriate for children... Show more content

The negative factors against co sleeping are that the parent could suffocate their child and there
could be adverse effects on sexual development. The positive factors for co sleeping are easier
for child to get back to sleep if awakened in the night, easier breastfeeding throughout the night,
and possible better intellectual development. Although the AAP discourages co sleeping, up to
20% of mothers are given information from physician on co sleeping (Rathus, Nevid, Fichner
Rathus, 2014, pp. 375 376). I think that in the American culture it is often expected and taught to
new parents that a child should be left in the crib to cry themselves to sleep. Children are raised
to be able to sleep alone and independently, some even from the day of birth. I find it unnatural to
have a child sleep alone. The baby lives inside the womb for none months, which is a small space
that provides consistent comfort. In my experience, after giving birth, the baby desires that same

A Happier Tomorrow in Today Will Be a Quiet Day
In the story Today Will Be a Quiet Day written by Amy Hempel, one may be inclined to believe
that there is a tone of depression or sadness among the father and the two children. This is shown
in the opening sentence, while the three are stalled in traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge. The boy
states, I think if the quake hit now the bridge would collapse and the ramps would be left (Hempel
1202). We also learn that the boy had a best friend who committed suicide about a year before.
Finally, the fact that a mother is not mentioned leaves the reader with a suspicion that the parents
may be divorced, separated, or even worse, the mother may be deceased. Even though these

This is shown throughout the car ride when the boy and girl are telling jokes, and the boy constantly
recites humorous bumper stickers. Another example of the father s attempt to have fun with his
children is his initial plan to attend the arm wrestling tournament. This is shot down by the
children, but they still find an interesting place to have a nice lunch. The day proved to be a fun
and relaxing day for the family, and hinted that less disastrous times are in store for them.
Next, the fact that the daughter has just received her driver s license is a step towards happier
times. Driving on her own is probably one of the most exciting times of her life, and she makes it
known to her family that she received the highest grade in the class. The father trusts her and lets
her drive all the way home, which raises her confidence and shows the trusting relationship
between the father and daughter. Another example which shows happier times coming to the
family is when the father tells the children that he has both good and bad news. He goes on to ask
which would the children prefer to hear first. The daughter immediately answers that she wishes to
hear the bad first. This is surprising to her father, but it shows that she is beginning to mature. The
father is glad to hear that the daughter can handle the bad news, when earlier the truth had to be
hidden from her, like the death of the dog. This shows how naive the daughter was in her younger
years, and now that she has

Use Of Propaganda During World War II
Paul Klene Professor Brain Stokes History 122 6 December 2015 The Use and Impact of
Propaganda during World War II The second most devastating global conflict, also known as
World War II, left over 60 million dead creating panic and fear for citizens all over the world.
During these hard times the citizens, dealing with a national crisis, needed something to give
them hope that there will be betters days. Propaganda was used in political cartoons to release
information that contained biased views and over exaggerations to gain support for the war.
These cartoons gave hope to the people and also affected a majority of their opinions.
Propaganda became used as a weapon during World War II to create nasty images of the enemy,
get individuals to help support the war, to boost the confidence of people, and give them hope
during hard times. In Germany, Hitler used propaganda to make his image superior to everyone
else. His face and name were posted everywhere in newspapers, stamps, books, and on
billboards. People in Germany during World War II could not escape his name. They were
constantly harassed and told that Hitler was their ruler, and he was practically seen as a god. In
the book, Hitler and the Nazis: A History in Documents, the author David F. Crew shows how
Hitler s mass publicity was created to be the image of authority in Germany. He says, This visual
assault was part of a larger attempt to create a public image of Hitler, a Hitler myth, which was

Changing views about Community
The definition of the term community has a long and detailed history, encapsulating concerns of
belonging and identity, time and place, difference and similarity, exclusion or inclusion. There is
no much social literature about this concept before 1910. In 1915, C.J Galpin is the first one
who coins it, offering a clear sociological definition . It was used to demarcate the small rural
communities in terms of service area and trade surrounding a central village. (Harper and Dunham
1959). This first attempt of defining the community, was quickly followed by various competing
definitions. Some of them described community as a geographical area, others, focused on
community as a group of people living and sharing a particular location, place, while another
category, looked at it as a common area of life. For example, Frazer

A Child I Loved Riding Roller Coasters
As a child I loved riding roller coasters. The fast speeds, the moment before the big drop, and that
sinking feeling in your stomach as you go up and down the track. In an odd twist of fate, a
serious injury from a roller coaster as a 17 year old helped redevelop a motivation to succeed
that I would not otherwise have known existed in me. The summer after I graduated high school
I hit my head on the shoulder harness of a ride. Staggering off the ride I felt strangely fatigued
and nauseous, walking haphazardly toward the exit gate. The immediate effects of the severe
concussion I experienced lingered for two days, but the structural damage to my brain caused
Post Concussive Syndrome, disrupting my life for years. Fatigue, anxiety, and loss of
concentration and memory, exacerbated by previously diagnosed depression. The best way to
describe the feeling was if you stuck a big ball of cotton stuck in your brain, clouding your
ability to think. I began taking classes at the local community college, but my mental faculties
were severely diminished. Prompted by semester after semester of poor grades I began spiraling
into deep depression, haunted by lack of motivation and confidence. A discovery of my passion
and talent for politics and a strong internal desire to overcome the setbacks of my injury slowly
and steadily pulled me out of despondency. Continued successes in politics and government courses
bolstered my resolve while simultaneously giving me a greater purpose. My

Creating an estate plan remains one task every individual should complete, regardless of how
much or how little they have in terms of assets. The plan serves to distribute these assets according

Commentary On Chasing Lincoln s Killer By James Swanson
Chasing Lincoln s Killer by James Swanson is a third person book about Lincoln s assassination
and the manhunt for John Wilkes Booth. In the beginning, the civil war just ended. A lot of
southern s were angry at Lincoln such as John Wilkes Booth. Booth had found conspirators to help
assassinate Abraham Lincolnand his cabinet members. Booth had a plan to kidnap Lincoln before
but it failed, so that made him furious. This plan had to be the ultimate plan. He thought about
everything. The timing had to be perfect for this one. The conflict is man vs person because it is
about Booth trying to get away from the police. Then, Lincoln, Mary Todd, Henry Rathbone and

Meaningful Quotation Paragraph:
The real hero is Abraham Lincoln and the principles for which he lived and died: freedom and
equal rights for all Americans. (Swanson 193) is an important quote in the book. This quote is
spot on. It is so true that Lincoln did the best he could and died because of what he did. He was
the one to stop the fighting so everyone could be equal. This quote is in the epilogue, so this at the
end of the story. Everything has happened. John Wilkes Boothhas been found and all the
conspirators.
4. Author s purpose:
The author s purpose is to inform the audience what actually on April 15, 1865. One example is it
informs why Abraham Lincoln couldn t die at Ford s Theatre. It is because Lincoln deserves a
proper bed to die in. The second information that the author told me was that Lincoln was the
happiest he has ever been in the office that day. 5. What I Learned:
I have learned all about Lincoln s assassination. I learned that John Wilkes Booth tried to kill
Lincoln before. I also learned about Lincoln s cabinet member and Booth s conspirators and what
they did. One main thing I learn from this book is having compassion. When Lincoln was shot,
Laura Keene an actress went up to the box held lincoln s head in her lap. To make him as
comfortable as he could be. This shows that the world had compassion in those

  • 2. The Effects Of Natural Disasters Believe it or not, there are certain parts of the country where natural disasters are just apart of the day to day activity. In other words, it s something residents are familiar with. On the contrary, natural disasters are events that can cause other residents to experience traumatic stress according to the Ohio University. Throughout the West Coast, for example, there are earthquakes. The East and Gulf coast, on the other hand, experience hurricanes. Then throughout the heartland of our country, there are those violent rotating columns of air we call tornados that rip homes to pieces in a matter of minutes. Although these are just a few of disasters, the reality is a disaster like floods, wildfires, winter storms, and hail can happen at any time. So, with this in mind and given how unpredictable mother nature is, it s always a good idea to take steps toward reducing your risk of injury by protecting your home. In return, you and your family will be safer, and your home will be ready to withstand the fight against those harsh weather conditions. Here are some steps to get started: Create a Digital Cloud: When the time comes to evacuate your home, there s a good chance you might forget your computer along with your portable hard drive, which means the pictures you ve captured over the years could never be seen again. To make matter worse, those important documents are also at risk of never being seen again depending on the disaster. One way to ensure that you don t risk ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Women In A Scandal In Bohemia And King Solomon s Mines In both Sir Arthur Conan Doyle s, A Scandal in Bohemia (1891), and H. Rider Haggard s, King Solomon s Mines (1885), male figures utilize the femme fatale image of the monstrous feminine to concretize or reaffirm views of a dominant patriarchal power (OED). Specifically, characters such as Sherlock Holmes and Allan Quartermain, subsequently attempt to debase the influences of female manipulation and superiority. The expression of this thematic trend occurs primarily through the tension of ignorance versus insight, and the recurring images of dehumanization. As such, these tropes express within each text the attempts of men to degrade women s inherent authority. When considering Irene Adler, from A Scandal in Bohemia, and Gagool, from King Solomon s Mines, the tension of ignorance versus insight is essential in preliminarily introducing the characters position within the femme fatale role. Just as a femme fatale is by definition a woman, who destabilizes male control, both Adler and Gagool use their exclusive access to information to subvert male desires and boundaries of class (OED). For instance, Irene Adler exploits her possession of compromising letters and photographs to blackmail the King of Bohemia and so, ruin (him) by jeopardizing his marriage to another woman (Doyle, A Scandal in Bohemia). Thereby, she exemplifies the image of the femme fatale by threatening the monarchy s stability with issues of scandal while, alternately, ensuring that her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were moments where I would laugh, while other moments I shed a tear. This event involved 5 women sitting in chairs side by side. Each one told a story of who they were portraying to be. One story involved rape, one was about an old lady, another was about a preexisting lawyer, and many others. Their attire consisted of coordinated black white and red attire. They all had their own specific body language and spark that moved the crowd. To start, I knew the basics of a women s body. I know the anatomy and the functions of each parts. • 5. Cyanide ( Cn- ) Compounds And Deviations Of It Cyanide (CN anion) compounds and deviations of it (HCN, KCN) have been in use for many years as poisons in various settings. In Ancient Egypt plants containing trace concentrations of cyanide have been used as lethal poisons and in World War II HCN was employed with a base to mass exterminate millions of people in Nazi camps. Another historically used method of cyanide poisoningis through gas chambers created by addition of a cyanide salt into an acid to create HCN (g). Although many forms of cyanide exist, the most common is HCN, which naturally is released into the atmosphere from plants, volcanoes and bacteria/fungi. The primary source of cyanide poisoning in humans is through accidental ingestion of plants. More than 2,000 plant species contain cyanogenic glycosides that when ingested can be rapidly hydrolyzed into cyanide. This rapid hydrolysis occurs when cell structure of the plant is disturbed thus plant products that are incorrectly processed may lead to cyanide poisoning. Cyanogenic compounds are present in surprisingly large number of common foods such as sweet potatoes, cassava, bamboo and lima beans1. An area of growing concern is inhalation of tobacco smoke, which is another common source of cyanogenic compounds. Many idiopathic syndromes have been shown to be associated with failure in detoxification mechanisms specifically targeting cyanide compounds2. Symptoms of cyanide poisoning generally mimic those of suffocation or climbing mountains at high ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Niyazov And Isolation 1984, is a book that was published in 1949 and written by George Orwell. His reason for writing the book was the hope that humans would read it and come to a realization that our world was headed toward a dictator like or tyrannical style of government. Some ignorant people living in first world countries might say that he was wrong, but those smart enough know just how right he was. These terrifying places are very much real in the world today. The people living in these cruel environments are often times isolated by their leaders and told they are living in the best country in the world, and that their reason of isolation is to keep the rest of the world out. The harsh reality is that these people are actually being starved, neglected,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maybe it has to do with their early life, for example, Niyazov being orphaned starting from a very young age after the death of most of his mother and father ( Obituary: Saparmurat Niyazov ). Perhaps though, it has nothing to do with our upbringing, and maybe it only our internal hunger for power is to blame. Whichever way that created a person as monstrous as Niyazov, definitely created something huge. During Niyazov s rule he controlled everything he possibly could. Controlling the minds of his people was his specialty. Forcing them to have the will to change their beliefs, their routines, their individuality, was one of the reasons Niyazov succeeded in being one of the world s dictators ( Saparmurat Niyazov. ) Turkmenbashi put many laws in place of ridiculous nature, because he able to. He named some of the months and days of the weeks after his family. Only six years after he had become President, he ban smoking because after a major heart surgery he had quit. Other things like music, dance, and long hair on men were also halted, simply because he did not like them ( Obituary: Saparmurat Niyazov ). Niyazov also neglected his citizens. He starved worked his people to the bone. Today, Turkmenistan is lead by a man who works in a very similar way to that of Niyazov. His name is Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and he has transitioned the country to start favoring him over their old great leader and they have begun to be recreate the country for the new President. Berdimuhamedov has not changed much other than that though. He is running things in the same type of dictatorship that Turkmenbashi left behind. The people in the country are still isolated, without any freedoms or necessary rights provided to them. ( Saparmurat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Impact Of Sociobiology On Theology 9. Discuss sociobiology and its possible impacts on theology. (10 points) Sociobiology is the scientific study of the biological (especially ecological and evolutionary) aspects of social behavior in animals and humans. The implications of sociobiology for theology are developed with respect to the general impact of basic evolutionary ideas, the reductionist assumptions of sociobiologists, whether or not survival can be a value, and more holistic accounts of the physical and biological grounding of the mental and spiritual lives of human beings. An often heard criticism of sociobiology accuses it of justifying existing injustices. For example, opponents say sociobiology supports the belief that people of darker skin color are intellectually inferior to those with lighter skin. Additionally, opponents suggest that following what sociobiology says is human nature only continues the injustices. In reality, sociobiology really does not support this interpretation. Biological inclinations contain what many would consider both altruistic and evil. To discriminate between them and to emphasize the more appropriate is the task of social reflection.... A response could be that this is a question for future research. But this response is weak, as it can be applied to almost every argument in existence. Peacocke also points to ethical codes not being uniform. Sometimes the ethical codes oppose what biology would require leaving these ethical codes as inadequate where they encounter biology. Thus, morality cannot really be thought of as being produced mechanically by biology. • 10. Death Of Death By Radiation Death By Radiation Nickolas Natali California Baptist University, College of Engineering Abstract WHAT: In 1985, a Canadian built radiation treatment device began obliterating holes through patients bodies. The Therac 25, designed and developed by AECL (Atomic Energy Canadian Limited) was an advanced linear accelerator that could speed up electrons turning them into a high energy beam that annihilated surface tumours on the skin, or could converted the electrons into x rays to penetrate tumours deeper within the body. The Therac 25 was the latest and greatest version of the French company s previous models, the Therac 6 and Therac 20. One million dollars were invested into this machine to give radiation treatments to cancer patients. Most of the patients receiving treatment from the Therac 25 had already endured a form of surgery to remove the majority of the tumour and were using the Therac 25 as a means of eliminating any leftover growth. This high powered radiation machine was controlled by a computer from a separate room to protect the operator from being exposed to any unnecessary, moreover unwanted, doses of radiation. As previously stated, the Therac 25 had two main functionalities: low energy and high energy. To be clear, low energy consists of an electron beam of [roughly] 200 rads that was meant to be aimed directly at the patient. High energy mode consisted of turning the machine to full ... Christianity thought it was a curse and Muslims said it was a blessing. Let s move on to the first point of this paper, Christianity. In England, it is said that the death rate of the citizens is thirty three percent. At the end of the plague, the population was 2.8 million, but at the start of the plague it was around 4.2 million. Both drank liquefied Armenian clay to prevent from getting it, most died from doing this but they had hope. Both thought that the causes of this is was miasma, both had different reasons why it was a miasma. The background essay was part of both religion responses of the Black Death. As a result of the Black Death, Christians and Muslims were the major religions to respond to this event. One would still say, people do not know much about the Bubonic plague. To repeat, Christians were the ones to take this event to the next level, when they started burning the Jews. Muslims just thought of it has a blessing. How Does Harry Potter Affected Pop Culture For as long a literature has been around, books have been written that define the culture of a generation, though some leave lasting changes in pop culture. When the first Harry Potter was accepted to be published many years ago nobody was prepared for the enormous success the series would have. The series captured a massive following from the beginning, turning a simple seven book series into a franchise. Though I may not be an expert on literature, I have read the entire Harry Potterseries multiple times and am a big fan of the book. I have also researched the effect of the books on pop culture and have come to the conclusion that Harry Potter has embedded itself into pop culture and changed it in the process. Due to the fantasy elements and likable characters, the Harry Potter books have captured the attention of young readers and got them to continue reading beyond just those books. A study done by Scholastic and Yankelovich in 2006 found that the series has not only had a positive impact on children s views towards reading but it has also improved the quality of their school work (Garlick). He is believed to be the first person to seriously study mental illnesses. Kraepelin s Manic Depressive Insanity and Paranoia in 1921 detailed the difference between manic depressive and praecox, which is now known as schizophrenia. B. Is the disease state recessive or dominant? One study has also found a higher frequency in families where the disorder is inherited from mothers. A particular case inquiry may be considered, assuming that bipolar affective disorder can be inherited as a sex linked recessive trait or as an autosomal recessive trait. C. Differentiate between recessive or dominant? The difference between the two is that it depends on the parents in which one or the both have the gene that is dominant but in which chase if it is recessive it would not get passed down. D. Is it a chromosomal abnormality? Although there is compelling evidence from twin, family, and adoption studies to support strong genetic determinants for bipolar affective disorder, the underlying molecular genetic basis for this condition remains poorly understood. The identification of the genes responsible for major psychiatric illnesses such as bipolar disorder would greatly enhance our understanding of etiology, as well as open new avenues for the development of more specific and effective treatments. The case of death can be positive action such as jumping from an upper window or negative action such as hunger strike. Durkheim eliminates psychotic paranoid suicide because it is non sociological explanation of suicide and it is not the result of self concise aim. The factor correlation between mental disorder and self destruction varies considerably. Scotland had comparatively high level of lunacy but there is low level self destruction. While Saxony showed a low level of lunacy but a high rate of self destruction. Alcohol addiction and substance abuse are eliminated by Durkheim (Law, 2011, p.200). Undoubtedly, race itself is abolished as an irrational concept. In the month of summer and at temperature degrees of latitude (50 55 degrees), there are more suicide cases because when communion is most competency public, especially in urban areas. One of the causes of non social associated to suicide that Durkheim examines is imitation. Durkheim differing the suicide rates among protestant and catholic, he argues that stronger social control among catholic result in lower suicide rates. According to Durkheim, catholic society has normal levels of integration while protestant society has low levels. He says that suicide rates are higher in men than in women. Suicides rates are higher among those who are not in relationship than those who are married. Because of the being single, the women do not have children so there is more suicide case in ... By four months we expect birth weight to double, and Adeline who was born at seven pounds ten ounces, is now already at twelve pounds fourteen ounces at only two and a half months old (BOOK, 90). This means she only has two more pounds to gain in order to meet that four month mark. She also is shooting up height wise. Almost as if she was able to perceive that it would not feed her or do much for her. Her eyes never were fixed on one spot for longer than a few minutes either. She constantly was looking around, really observing everything that was around her. By two months Adeline is able to not only stare at faces but also start to perceived them and by three months, she will start to focus more on the eyes and mouths (Book, 98). She is already at the three month mark though, as both her mother and I took turns making a smiley face and then a frowny face to which she changed her reaction. When we smiled her eyes opened up bigger and she had a social smile on her face. When we frowned she did not smile and got a look of sadness on her face as well. My first impression of the Fortune Theatre was; it was a very old Victorian building, very small and slightly ragged. Upon entering it felt very cramped and made you feel claustrophobic. The atmosphere was eerie due to the old style of the building. This was particularly effective as the play was set in the Victorian period. This made you feel as if you were in the past. Also the narrow staircase and small seating area created effect. Before the play starts there is no background music played to set a scene or image in the audiences mind. It gives you a mental representation of what the building would look like. Upon seeing this building, it was obvious a catastrophe was immanent. The lighting also represented where they were. For instance the actors were on a train and the windows of another train passed. This made you jump and started a continuous pattern of many frights to come. Sometimes the lack of lighting built up the atmosphere. At one time the stage was dark until the actor lit a match which illuminated his face. The effect of this was astonishing, such a simple thing as a match built up the scene immediately. The match was very effective because it was less bright than a spotlight and would not show off the surroundings. A torch was also used in the same way as the match but was just as effective as it showed a specific area. After seeing this used I realised how effective low light can be to create suspense and confusion. Sometimes the light came as a relief for the audience. In the first half of the play whenever there was a scary part normal lighting would come in to effect and give the audience relief from the intenseness. This almost gave the audience ... The purpose of this paper is that I will discuss the events that led up to the battle, the battle itself, the outcome, and a specific event that, if changed, might have changed the outcome of the war. There are multiple events that may have changed the outcome; within this paper I will discuss one, and that will be, what if George Washingtons diversionary orders didn t deceive the British. On September 28, 1781 General George Washington started his siege on Yorktown, where the British General Lord Charles Cornwallis garrisoned his 9,000 troops. Those actions are just the final steps that won the battle and solidified the United States as an independent nation. The real beginning of the Battle of Yorktown started in August of 1781 when the French army led by French Commander, the Comte de Rochambeau, convinced General Washington to attack Yorktown instead of New York. The Comte de Rochambeau Stated to General Washington, that if he was to attack New York that they would suffer a great deal of casualties due to the British s well fortification of the area and that the attack wouldn t succeed. General Washington was convinced by his ally s concern, so on August 19, 1781 the French and United States Continental ArmyBegan their march to Yorktown in order to crush Lord Charles Cornwallis and his recent string of victories. The dialogue of Smiley being accounted by Simon Wheezler, he ketched a frog one day and took him home and said he cal klated to edercate him (Twain 3), contains diction that emphasizes the lack of a formal education. By using diction that suggests lack of intelligence and education, Twain is able to use the theme of deception ending with unexpected consequences to showcase that probability that people with lower intelligence have a hard time learning of their mistakes, especially when deceived. The final example of diction, well I don t see no p ints about that frog that s any better n any other frog, (Twain 4), highlights another person with a lack of education, but this person has more intelligence or at least more awareness than the people Smiley usually tricks, which will eventually make it harder for Smiley to deceive him; thus, being unable to deceive him means ... Nixon states that no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. (Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, 44 Fed. Reg. at 71413). Since this law was enacted we have seen a dramatic increase in female sports participation. Tile IX has had a positive impact on female athletes as females now make up over 40% of college athletes... compared to two percent before the time of the legislation (Staurowsky Weight, 2001, Pg. 190). Although Title IX has increased participation of female athletes it has not aided in achieving equality for women and girls in sports. I believe the barriers that prevent equality for female athletes can be broken down into two categories media coverage, and public perception. The media has majority control over what the public believes is important and most recently female athletes received 1.6% of television coverage, 4.9% of magazine covers, and only 9.7% of featured sports articles (Fink, 2015). Not only do female athletes not get enough media coverage, but when they do the focus is often on their physical appearance, femininity, and / or heterosexuality (Fink, 2015, Pg. 331). This coverage creates a negative public perception toward female athletes. Thus the public believes that sports ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Palaentological evidence thus far describes Doliochocebus as a fossil of cebine, in the clade that includes extant members of genus Saimiri (Szalay and Delson, 1979). Based on estimations of the origin of the subfamily Cebinae which was 18 million years ago, this fossil was in fact the stem of the subfamily. Also, Stirtonia was considered to be an alouattinin fossil (Szalay and Delson, 1979) and according to their results the split between Alouatta and the remaining members of the family occurred 16 million years ago (Opazo et al., 2006 p. 279), a result that also agrees with the fossil record. The Importance Of Knowledge And Personal Knowledge Knowledge, awareness or familiarity gained by experience of a fact or situation, is obtained in a myriad of ways whether through media, family, peers, and/or one s personal experiences. There are also different kinds of knowledge: personal and shared knowledge. (Hetherington 1). Personal knowledge is knowledge that is created by a person s own knowledge of a concept or situation; on the other hand, shared knowledge represents the knowledge that a community of people know as a fact for them. The claim We know with confidence only when we know little; with knowledge doubt increases is supported by natural scientific theories, education, and personal experiences like personal relationships while the claim can be countered by examples of the media bias and the 2017 presidential election. • 29. The Concept Of Education In Mona Lisa Smile There are two ways in which one leads a classroom of young entrepreneurs of learning. These forms of education are concreted in either a banking concept or problem posing approach. Paulo Freire, the creator of such ideas, is a man who believes in the distinct difference that either reaps learning or destroys it. Banking concept education, according to Freire, is an education that becomes an act of depositing, in which the students are the depositories and the teacher is the depositor (Freire 244). In simpler terms, banking concept is the lack of true understanding by students. Learning is not a responsibility, instead it is an act to passively check off the list. In contrast, Freire speaks of problem posing as liberating education [that] consists in acts of cognition, not transferrals of information (Freire 249). To expand, Freire is bringing to light that this type of education is the development of genuine, active understanding between teachers and students. Freire believes in critical, investigative work between teachers and students. He believes that the banking concept restricts growth and keeps students and teachers from a true critical understanding of the world. Both banking concept education and problem posing education are evident in the film Mona Lisa Smile. Mona Lisa Smile, a film set in 1953, is a vivid look into Freire s understanding of education. • 34. Research on the Logistics and Mechanisms of Attention Attention is a mechanism directly involved in the selection, distribution and maintenance of processing resources, which determines our ability to process complex and multiple stimuli from our environment and is crucial to our success and survival. Given the large magnitude of visual information we encounter every day, the existence of a selective mechanism at a conscious and unconscious level that regulates what we pay attentionto is indisputable; it has even been conceptualized as a supramodal mechanism that distributes cognitive resources according to task complexity and motivation (Salthouse , Rogan Prill , 1984). Initially conceived as a single spotlight alternating amongst foci (Tiffin, Knight Jackson, 1946), attention is now understood to be beneficial due to its capacity to divide. Nevertheless, there is a limit in scope and manner, so we are constantly promoting the priority processing of certain information in the presence of multiple stimuli (RossellГі, 1999). Understanding the logistical constrains behind this prioritization and allocation of resources is thus important from a theoretical perspective (Vergauwe et al., 2010), but also due to its practical implications in various fields such as the military, sports, transportation, safety and education (Strayer Johnston, 2001; Gingerich Lineweaver, 2014). Generally, these constrains have been studied in two specific domains: space and time. Regarding space, visual search paradigms explore how stimulus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Whether a Cut in Corp Tax Rate be Beneficial Essay Whether a Cut in Corp Tax Rate be Beneficial Doesn t everyone want to keep what he/she has earned? It has always been somewhat tradition for Americans to work hard for their money, only to see some of it squandered away come tax time. Wouldn t a tax cut, for some, be like a divine, heavenly grace? As the year 2001 unfolds and George W. Bushbegins his presidency, incometax rates have, in fact, become a concern. President Bush is pushing for an income tax bill that will reduce the tax brackets from 15%, 28%, 31%, 36%, and 39.6% to a new bracket in 2006 of 10%, 15%, 25%, and 33%. A cut in individual income taxes would benefit most Americans and is well deserved. However, there is no plan to cut the corporate tax rates yet. A... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the risk is too great and a feeling of uneasiness sets in on Wall Street, investors may begin to sell that firm s stock, dropping the market price per share and possibly the value of the firm itself. The reasoning? Simple: if the price of the share decreases, then there is a possibility that when the time came for a favorable risk adjustment, investors would be paying a lower price per share than the firm is really worth. The amount of equity that they would receive from their outstanding shares would decrease. Also, if the tax rates rise and the company has been deemed riskier than before, some insiders may begin to sell their shares of the firm. When this hits the market, it sends a negative signal to investors to sell, which will dump excessive shares onto the market. Conversely, if the degree of risk is not in excessive measures, investors might purchase more shares in hopes that the increased risk will yield a higher rate of return; a classic example of the risk return trade off. Along with market performance, a firm may need to adapt its financial activities as well. These activities all relate to the way the firm is organized, in particular, its capital structure. Included in capital structure is the aspect of convertible bonds. These bonds can be converted to a specified amount of common stock. The downside of these convertible stocks and bonds is that they have the potential of diluting the Earnings Per Share (EPS) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Symbolism of Nature in Poems In literature, writers often use symbols of nature to symbolize emotion and reflection. Flowers may symbolize life as drought may symbolize death and a loss of hope. In the poems The Road Not Taken, Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening, and A Poison Tree, Frost and Wordsworth use the shallow image of a flowerand the woods to symbolize a change of emotion and thought in one s life. Two roads diverging in different directions lead to an unknown destination because no one knows where the paths will take them. The two paths in the woods are symbolic for there being many choices in life. The speaker also depicts the two paths with leaves covering both equally, which shows that both are mysterious and lead to somewhere unknown to the person traveling it. Also, that no matter what choice is made do not look back, but to keep moving forward. For example in the poem the speaker says, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. (536) it depicts that the person is picking the path not commonly chosen by others even if it does not lead to good things. It may be much more difficult, and although it is going against everyone it has set the speaker apart from others. The woods are used as a symbol of a passage to temptation and darkness in the poem, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening . It is also described as a place of glamour that has diverted the speaker from fulfilling the promise. The poem uses the horse with the bell attached to it as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Essay on Kokoro and the Parallels of Historical Events Throughout history artists have used art as a means to reflect the on goings of the society surrounding them. Many times, novels serve as primary sources in the future for students to reflect on past history. Students can successfully use novels as a source of understanding past events. Different sentiments and points of views within novels serve as the information one may use to reflect on these events. Natsume Soseki s novel Kokoro successfully encapsulates much of what has been discussed in class, parallels with the events in Japan at the time the novel takes place, and serves as a social commentary to describe these events in Japan at the time of the Mejeii Restoration and beyond. Soseki lived through the Mejeii Restoration and more than likely encountered many different Japanese views of Westerners. Here, it seems as if Soseki is playing devil s advocate to popular belief and describing this particular Westerner as non threatening and willing to take up Japanese customs and ways of living. Soseki may have been trying to reveal the dominant belief (as described above by Duus) may have not been the only sentiment of whites in Japanese society. In fact, Soseki may be trying to reveal there were Westerners who successfully accepted Japanese traditions and customs. The narrator s awe of this Westerner seems to reveal and highlight this point by his surprise that Westerners like this existed who were willing to adopt Japanese culture in a non threatening fashion. The role of women is also depicted at length within Kokoro in a few ways. As Sensei describes in his letter the way him and his wife came to be married (her mother and father choosing her husband for her), this point is described by Duus. Duus describes the heads of the households as the one to choose marriage partners for their family members. He describes children having to receive parental permission before getting married. The fight for the equality of the sexes has accomplished many victories from granting women the right to vote in 1920 to banning female genital mutilation in Nigeria just this year. Feminism brought numerous inequalities to light in the past years, but one of the most underrated struggles fought by females of all ages everyday often gets overlooked. Young girls still face large amounts of inequality in the classroom. Deborah Tannen tackled this often glazed over topic in her essay How Maleand FemaleStudents Use Language Differently. She believes that because women generally have smaller groups of friends, they feel uncomfortable talking in areas with more people. And since men use their words to fight for a higher place in their social hierarchy, they feel more comfortable arguing in a large group. While this may be true for some cases, Tannen completely disregards the fact that women also use words to fight for dominance. Girls are simply more discrete about it. Instead of arguing and exchanging playful insults and put downs, (Tannen 2) women talk behind each others backs and ruin each other s appearance that way. Arguments with females are much more verbal than physical as they can be with guys. So if anything, women use language to argue and debate more than men. This completely goes against Tannen s original thought that women don t use language to compete, and it doesn t explain why women talk less in class. At a young age parents tell little girls to be quiet and ladylike. This creates the stereotype that girls do not argue or debate. Girls simply do not participate in large group debates because they are raised to be calm and soft ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is surprising to her father, but it shows that she is beginning to mature. During these hard times the citizens, dealing with a national crisis, needed something to give them hope that there will be betters days. Propaganda was used in political cartoons to release information that contained biased views and over exaggerations to gain support for the war.
