This project aims to continuously monitor a patient's health conditions such as blood pressure, temperature, and heart rate. Sensors are used to collect this data, which is converted to digital values using an ADC and sent to a microcontroller. Zigbee transceivers then wirelessly transmit the data to a control room PC where a doctor can monitor the patient's status in real time and intervene if necessary. The system uses low-power wireless communication standards to allow for continuous remote patient monitoring with long battery life.

Wireless Patient Monitoring System
The development of wireless patient monitoring system has been quite intensive in the past decade. Hence, in the present study, a new approach of wireless patient monitoring system was proposed as a prototype to minimize the power consumption and the costing issue. Visual Basic Net. 2010 as the software and Peripheral Interface Controller (PIC) 16F877 microcontroller as the hardware circuit were used to implement the system. The communication between the hardware and software systems is in the full duplex communication via the XBee modules happened. The results show that XBee module is successfully communicated with the whole system and the monitoring software is in the best condition to be implemented. Since the prototype using variable voltage, good comparison with the experimental and previous studies shows that the present study can be improved by using the real ECG machine so that the system can be ready to the real user.

Objectives: Sensor networks constitute the backbone for the construction of personalized monitoring systems. Up to now, several sensor networks have been proposed for diverse pervasive healthcare applications, which are however characterized by a significant lack of open architectures, resulting in closed, non-interoperable, and difficult to extend solutions. In this context, we propose an open and reconfigurable Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) for pervasive health monitoring, with particular emphasis in its easy extension with additional sensors and functionality by incorporating embedded intelligence mechanisms.
Methods: We consider a generic WSN architecture comprised of diverse sensor nodes (with communication and processing capabilities) and a Mobile Base Unit (MBU) operating as the gateway between the sensors and the medical personnel, formulating this way a Body Area Network (BAN). The primary focus of this work is on the intra-BAN data communication issues, adopting SensorML as the data representation mean, including the encoding of the monitoring patterns and the functionality of the sensor network.
Results: In our prototype implementation two sensor nodes are emulated; one for heart rate monitoring and the other for blood glucose observations, while the MBU corresponds to a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) device. Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) is used to implement both the sensor nodes and the MBU components. Intra-BAN wireless communication relies on the Bluetooth protocol. Via an adaptive user interface in the MBU, Health Professionals may specify the monitoring parameters of the WSN and define the monitoring patterns of interest in terms of rules.

Abstract The project concentrates a selective section of patient monitoring: neonatal care. Several patient monitors are available in the market. Yet it is quite a daunting task in countries with high population like India, because of insufficient resource space availability. It is difficult to keep a track of several patients at a time from both inside and outside hospital premises/medical facility, which includes remote locations. The project involves with sensing the vitals of the newly born babies which are very different when compared to adult patients and transmit these signals to the computer monitor at the nursing station. Also based on the preset threshold values for the recorded values, an alarm system will be introduced with an immediate transfer of the corresponding patient data to the registered medical professional. This paper attempts to design and implement patient monitoring and real time feedback mechanism, equipped with wireless transmission via GSM and Zigbee. Using Zigbee for in-house monitoring and GSM for external correspondence is proposed. The proposed system is likely to be efficient, economical, easy to use, and portable, have wide application potential due to flexibility in the design and software. The timer we have set for counting the heart beat is 30s.
There is a set point we can decide, after 30 s the heartbeat would be shown on the LCD along with a buzzer sound (if it exceeds the set point).

We focus on the indoor personal localization module, which leverages a method based on received signal strength measurements, together with a particle filter to perform tracking of moving patients. We discuss the implementation and dimensioning of the localization and tracking system using commercial hardware, and we test the LAURA system in real environment, both with static and moving patients, achieving an average localization error lower than 2 m in 80% of the cases.

This paper describes a new concept for wireless and portable electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor transmitting signals to a monitoring station at the remote location within specific range, and this concept is intended for monitoring people with impairments in their cardiac activity. The proposed work helps to overcome this problem. With the advancement in Arduino and mobile technology, it is possible to design a portable ECG device which capture ECG of patient and monitor it on mobile platform. This report goes over low power Arduino, mobile platform Panda board and Zigbee technology to couple ECG over mobile board.

The electrical activities of the heart are used to monitor cardiovascular diseases. It can be measured using electrocardiogram (ECG), a simple, painless test that can be recorded graphically. The physician, to predict the patient’s heart conditions and recommend suitable treatments, uses electrodes placed on the patient’s skin surface, to record these signals. The P, Q, R, S, T waves in the ECG signal can be used to determine the normality and abnormality of the heart's condition. The time interval differs for each cardiovascular condition of the heart. In this work, the ECG signal is acquired real-time using an intelligent sensor module, and the recorded value is processed to find the peak values. The data is sent to the web server using internet of things technology at a minimal time, where the physician can view it and proper decision can be taken. The real-time ECG data acquisition is also made using the field programmable gate array kit as it is a low cost, high-speed device and the output is viewed in the computer. The developed model is validated through MATLAB software and implemented for real-time applications.

In recent years, emergency admissions and long lengths of stay have become extremely costly. So the focus of health policy has shifted away from the provision of reactive, acute care toward preventive care outside the hospital. As models of care are redesigned, health economies are seeking to provide more care outside large acute centers. The drivers for this shift are two-fold; first, there is a quality-of-care issue and second, there is a resource allocation issue. Being cared for in a patient’s own home is a key aim of current U.K. government health policy and that is driven by an imperative to provide better quality care to people without the need to disrupt their lives. Investment in technologies that enable remote monitoring would lead to long-term gains in terms of hospital finances and patient care.

This document proposes a reduced latency list decoding algorithm and high throughput decoder architecture for polar codes. The reduced latency list decoding algorithm visits fewer nodes in the decoding tree and considers fewer possibilities of information bits than existing successive cancellation list decoding algorithms, significantly reducing decoding latency and improving throughput with little performance degradation. An implementation of the proposed decoder architecture in a 90nm CMOS technology demonstrates significant latency reduction and area efficiency improvement compared to other list polar decoders.
Performance/Power Space Exploration for Binary64 Division Units
A researcher developed a radix-8 divider for binary64 division units to improve energy efficiency at high clock rates. Simulation results showed the radix-8 divider requires less energy per division than radix-4 or radix-16 approaches. The researcher used Xilinx 10.1 and ModelSim 6.4b tools and VHDL/Verilog languages to develop and test the minimally redundant radix-8 divider.
Hybrid LUT/Multiplexer FPGA Logic Architectures
Hybrid FPGA architectures containing a mixture of lookup tables (LUTs) and hardened multiplexers are evaluated to improve logic density and reduce chip area. Simulation results show that non-fracturable hybrid architectures naturally save up to 8% area after placement and routing without optimizing the technology mapper, and additional area is saved with architecture-aware mapping optimizations. Fracturable hybrid architectures only provide marginal area gains of up to 2% after placement and routing. For the most area-efficient hybrid architectures, timing performance is minimally impacted.

A High-Speed FPGA Implementation of an RSD-Based ECC Processor
This document describes a high-speed FPGA implementation of an elliptic curve cryptography processor based on redundant signed digit representation. The processor employs pipelining techniques to achieve high throughput for Karatsuba–Ofman multiplication. It also includes an efficient modular adder without comparison and a high throughput modular divider to maximize frequency. The processor supports the NIST P256 curve and performs single-point multiplication in 2.26 ms at a maximum frequency of 160 MHz on a Xilinx Virtex 5 FPGA.

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

The parameters like the blood pressure, temperature, heart beat are to be monitored continuously. In other words, the doctor will be diagnosing the patient continuously. This project uses the wireless concept, ZIGBEE. ZIGBEE is a specification for a suite of high level communication protocols using small, low-power digital radios based on the IEEE 802.15.4-2003standard for wireless personal area networks (WPANs), such as wireless headphones connecting with cell phones via short-range radio. The technology defined by the ZIGBEE specification is intended to be simpler and less expensive than other WPANs, such as Bluetooth. ZIGBEE is targeted at radio-frequency (RF) applications that require a low data rate, long battery life and secure networking. The project is designed in such a way that, the analog quantities which are to be recorded continuously are taken and converted into corresponding digital values using an eight channel ADC. Here we consider temperature and pulse oxymeter sensors to monitor the temperature, blood pressure and heart beat respectively. The processed data from ADC is sent to microcontroller. The microcontroller continuously monitors the status of the sensors and the X-Bee transceiver will be interfaced to the microcontroller through serial communication to pass the corresponding sensors data to the control room PC. The Pc will be also interfaced with another X-Bee transceiver through serial communication. The doctor can continuously check the patient’s status by checking the parameters displayed on the PC and will take the immediate action if the parameters exceed the normal values.
