Its kind of technology to society.
The the project is of a Heart Monitoring Device which keeps a track of your heart beats.
If the person is getting Heart Attack, the device sends a message to pre-coded number(eg. Hospital, Doctor, Relative), so that the person can be treated.
2. INTRODUCTION
In today’s hectic life schedule we are ignoring our health. The effect of
this can be felt by confronting many health problems. One of the example is
the premature death due to heart problems.
With respect to this we have designed a prototype that sends alert
message in case of heart attack. This project aims in sending alert messages
in emergency times, i.e. when a person is alone in home or travelling if he
got heart attack or met with an accident then alerting messages will be
send to the mobile phone . Here we get the alerting message from the GSM
modem (SMS Message).
6. 1.Heart beat sensor: Heart beat sensor is one type of
sensor which monitor the heart beat pulses for every
minute. It will check the heart beat pulses and the same
data will be given to Microcontroller.
This heart beat sensor is designed to give digital output of
heat beat when a finger is placed inside it.
2.SIM300 module: This GSM Modem can accept any GSM
network operator SIM card and act just like a mobile phone
with its own unique phone number. Advantage of using this
modem will be that you can use its RS232 port to
communicate and develop embedded applications.
Applications like SMS Control, data transfer, remote control
and logging can be developed easily.
3.LCD Display: The board has provisions for connecting a
standard 16 pin LCD Display.
However, it must be noted that the port provided for LCD
interfacing using the ATmega is for 4- bit interfacing and
not 8-bit wherein the pins B0, B1, B2 of the MCU are used
for RS, R/W and E and the pins B4, B5, B6, B7 are used for
data bus lines
7. Working
The functioning of this device is based on the truth that the blood circulates for
every one heart beat which can be sensed by using a circuit formed by the
combination of an IR sensor and photodiode.
Intensity of light falling on photodiode changes according to the blood pumping
through vein.
According to intensity of light sensor sends a value between 0 to 5V.
ADC part of MC converts this value into a digital value between 0 to 255.
By monitoring the change in value we can detect heart beat.
Hence we can measure BPM and check for irregularities.
In case of heart attack BPM crosses threshold and a message is send to a stored
number using GSM module
8. FUTURE SCOPE
This project can also be implemented through various
Network technologies like GPS module etc. This
project also can be useful for providing emergency
medical services. By interfacing additional condition
sensors we can detect other problems related to
Heart. This device can also be interfaced with a
temperature sensor to monitor the patient
temperature also.
With some modifications, it can be made more user-
friendly, example, wrist band with the heart sensor.
9. CONCLUSION
The device is designed to provide a continuous access to
the patients heart rate through wireless communication.
The functioning of this device is based on the truth that
the blood circulates for every one heart beat which can be
sensed by using a circuit formed by the combination of an
IR LED and Photodiode. Depending upon the rate of
circulation of blood per second the heart beat rate per
minute is calculated. This device consists of a
microcontroller which takes the input from the heart beat
sensor and calculates the heart rate of the patient. The
micro controller also takes the responsibility to send
message through GSM modem.
