3. How we created our target
audience?
When it come to creating our thriller sequence we had to think about our target audience and who would want to watch
our media production. We decided to create a focus group that included people who we believed would want to watch
our thriller sequence. With three males we believed that our concept would be understood and take them to another
place with emotional feelings, when asking our focus group they believe that they would watch our thriller sequence
and said they was intrigued by our concept to know what was going to happen, this showed us that they was pulled in
by the sequence, suggesting they are perfect for our target audience.
5. Why is this our target audience?
The audience that we want to come and view our thriller sequence are going to be
attached to our sequence because they will have an increasing need for escapism
which will lead them to get away from personal feelings of their own. Our target
audience is perfect for our thriller sequence because thrillers appeal more to men than
women. When having unfulfilling jobs and lives people are more likely to look for an
escape and watch movies. With our opening sequence we wanted to catch the eye of
viewers making our target audience come and watch our media product for
entertainment.
6. We tried to appeal to our audience by...
We tried to appeal to our target audience by having lots of enigma code which increases the target audiences suspicion
and makes them ask questions about the film. We had a dark setting which would add another layer of suspicion which
would appeal to our target audience and increase box office sales. The music is very creepy flows with the film, this will
mean when our target audience will more likely see our film. We had very simple characters to allow the target
audience to relate to them and with them being siblings they can relate to their relationship with their siblings.
7. Gratifications and pleasures we
offered to our audience
Looking at the uses and gratifications theory people use media for a number of things to fulfil
certain needs in their lives, our thriller sequence uses entertainment and escapism. This
means that the audience are able to be entertained by our sequence and can escape from
their everyday lives, this signifies that our audience will more engaged in our sequence
meaning that they will want to watch and pay attention more vigorously than normal.
8. Dyers Utopian Solutions
Our target audience need escapism as there lives are boring and have no action in them, this
means they will want to be on the edge of their seats.
Our target audience want heightened tension and suspense which our thriller opening scene
has this will engaged the audience and will keep them on edge. Dyer said that reality is full of
negatives and so the audience will want a world that is care free and a hopeful place to
escape, we have represented this by showing the audience a characters that they can relate
to that are in a situation that will engage the audience. Our opening scene grabs the audience
in for then when they watch the full film will have a sense of fulfilment.
