IN WHAT WAY DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR
CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA
PRODUCTS?
In our film sequence one of our main coventions is that we wanted to focus on our location as in
horror films the location gives an insight of the films concept and plot.we achieved this by using
similar locations that related to films that had a similar story line that was getting stalked where it
was quite and calm like an alley way or a path way that is of the location. We managed to find that
location around the college ground as it matched our desciption which was a quite road and near
a foresty location on the way to another building. That was our major location we used as well as
a house that we used that followed into the road and foresty atmosphere.
We decided that our costumes would be very simple and casual for the girl that was
the victim and who got attacked. She was mainly wearing black clothes and looked a
little dressed up and that can assume she has been at some gathering with her friends
as the audience don’t know who’s house she came out from the beginning. The dress
sence already shows that the audience attraction is more for teenagers rather than
children.
Our secon costume was for the attacker that was disguised in a white mask and a long
black coat as in most horror films the attacker is usually hid behind a mask and we
followed the conventions of a masked murderer like strangers and the purge. We had
the mask as it links with other horror films and has an effect on the audience to who
this killer is.
In our film the sound effects was a main coventions as well as we wanted to portray
what was happing into a sound track that fitted well with the events that took place.
We was inspired by the soundtrack from sinister as it was very intensed as well as dark
and creepy. We wanted to start of with a soundtrack that went through the beginning
credits into the opening scene to keep the audienced tenced out till the attack
happens. We didn’t want any dialouge in the opening scene as we wanted the audience
to be more aware of what is about to take place rather than what the characters where
saying as it builds more attention with the soundtrack behind it.
In our film sequence the location at the beginning was where the attack happened as
the girl walked around that area and it was the main location for that scene. We
wanted to use a location where it was quite and of the map to add a little bit more
suspicious of what's about to take place. In most horror films the attacker usually
attacks where there's less people and places that people would’t go. In the location we
where able to do different shots and the main one in this genre was a long shot where
it establishes the whereabouts and creates attention.
HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR
SOCIAL GROUPS ?

In our horror film the footage only shows two leading characters that is the killer and the
victim girl. The other two remaining characters are not seen on this as it was the friend house
she left from and her mother who she was talking to during the attack.
Emma is a normal teenager girl who looks
really happy from a gathering with her
friends. This shows that she was just being a
normal teenager having fun and who is
happy and is just walking back home. The
expression on her face shows a positive
mood as it looks like she’s telling someone
about her night.

As she walks past the second character
makes its first appearance by looking
gloomy and creepy appearing near the
frosty area. He had a mask on and that
suggest the murderer wanted to be known
anonymous. Also from the body language
you can tell he's about to commit crime
the way he's staring at Emma whilst she
walks past.
When she was walking she start to get a
gut feeling that’s someone's behind her
so she looks back and know one is
their. The expression on her face as
she turns around shows how confused
she was at this point as she felt
someone was behind her but there
appears to be know one their. The
mobile shows some teenage behavior as
she's propyl telling someone what's
going on

Emma continues to walk but a
little faster the second character
appears again and starts to follow
her and at this point it’s all tenced
as in what's going to happen next.
The second character appears to
walk a little faster to get to the girl
as if he's in a rush.
Overall the film represents a social group of teenagers that are
not from a certain background neither race or culture as we
wanted our audience to take in account that we did it to be
suitable and what is right. So we decided we wanted Emma to
be an average teenager that is from a middle class family. Also
we made sure that the storyline was understandable for teens
as that was our main aim. The film was a way to show a
recognizable thing that could happen if you decide to walk
home on your own late-night in a isolated place. This usually
occurs with teenagers as they would go home or on their own
through the quickest way.
WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR
MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY ?

Our film would be distribute by

Bloomhouse production
would distribute in our
film because its been well
known for its outstanding
work in the genre horror.
They have released films
like sinister and the series
of paranormal activity
and insidious . Also some
of the most watched
films on box office.
Watching is a horror film and our distribute mainly releases that
genre. The films in that genre are usually low budget same as ours.
Therefore it wont have a huge publicity like major other companies.
The company has also been really popular on box office with the
series of paranormal activity and insidious. Also twisted pictures
would link with our film and would be a good distribute as it
focuses around horror and is well known for all the saw films but its
better for slasher/grisly films as ours is more horror. We decided
Bloomhouse would be the best superior as our film has been done
in low budget as well as its more horror/ thriller than gore like the
saw franchise.
WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT ?
As we where planning our idea we thought it would be a good idea to be for an
audience that are teenagers as there the most common age that go to cinema to watch
films. Our film was a 15 certificate due to it been a horror genre. The age was decided
not only for our media product but as well we have considered that we have
responsibility to the society. The age we certified for our film was appropriate as the
film consenpt/behavior matched with age that was certified with. Also the genre we
have choose to do our piece with is more appealing to teens and ages 20 + but not
being stereotypical most horror films usually uses young characters and that indicates
it attracts more younger people as older people might find it to immature for them.
Also most teens would use their money to go watch films whereas older people would
spend money on things like clothes and bills.

Looking at the horror films on the previous slide it shows that the genre of
the film are not only popular in the past but they are popular now as well.
The genre has grossed over 300,000,000 on box office around the world.
From our research we knew that the audience was important so our style
throughout the film was appropriate for a teen horror.
Primary audience

Our primary audience is for teens and students as we found out in
our research that they are mostly interested in horrors as its good
exitment. Also the characters used in our film relate to more of a
teen audience.
Our main aim was to make our film appeal to both genders that are in theire
teens and possibly older people if they where intrested as our second audience.
However we didn’t do a questionair to know this information but we considerd
to check on the internet what gender age likes the horror genre.. We found that
there wasen’t much differnce between the gender as it depends on what mood
there in and other variables at the time.in conclusion our audience appeal is for
teenagers but can be for older people but depends on whether there intrested in
our film and concept.
HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE ?

We insured are audience to be a group of people that are 15+ both male or a
female. As this age they are still studying and in our films the roles we wanted
was to be similar age as our audience . We filmed in the college premises and
outside of it to relate to real life, so it could make the audience feel that its
real and could relate to real crime and accidents.
Camera Layout
one way we attracted our teen audience by was having a range of camera shots. We
decided to have different shots like POV shots, establish shots and low angle to
keep the audience exited and intrested.
This was an example of a pov shot
from the killers pov as he
disappears then reappears. This will
have a great effect as it gives the
chance for the audience to be in the
killers perspective. This style of
shot usually attracts the audience as
it builds up excitement and starts to
build up attention. Having a a range
of camera shots gives the audience
a varied perspective of the film.
Existing horrors
We have looked at existing horrors to help us to know what sort of
concept and costume and language you need to attract your audience.
We then looked at previous horrors like the (nightmare on elm street
1984) and (scream 1996) from looking at past films it helped us and
showed that teen horrors where popular back then. Also how they
used masks to make the killer anonymous was very popular and we
responded by adding a mask to our killer. Moreover how the killer
would act very suspicious and stalky in the film and we interpreted that
into our film. We realised we had to clearly think about dress scence
and language to help our teen audience to understand and relate to it
easily.
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE
PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THE PRODUCT ?
Filming

I have learnt that using a camera and doing basic filming is fairly simple as we had
practice from our previous task that was the preliminary task. The task helped us gain
skills for our final film that we where going to produce. We also found it easy to use the
tripod to get clear and stable shots.
Sound
We first started of with experimenting on garage band to fill in sound effects in our film
but we came to conclusion that the sound effects where not really working with the film.
Then we decided to look at previous horror theme tunes and came across sinister and
ended up using the soundtrack from there onto ours. Then we edited it on garage band
as we didn’t want the full soundtrack but it was a little difficult when it came to
transferring and inputting into final cut but we eventually managed it.
Editing Software
Using the editing software was fairly difficult as there was a range of
options and editing need doing from the footage we managed to collect.
This is because none in our group had any previous knowledge of using
any editing programmed and this effected us by a loss of time to be
editing and getting use to the the programmed. We mainly found adding
extra filming into our timeline of our film as we had reedit and render it.
LOOKING BACK TO YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL THAT YOU
HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT ?

Filming
We mainly found that we where very confident in using the camera
beforehand and that helped us in our preliminary task and our final film.
The equipment was easy to get to use to as people in the group had
previous knowledge from other projects they have done. This made our
skills gradually get even stronger for our final media product. I would see
the filming was a lot easier for the prelimanary task as didn’t have a
structured and well thought planning as we did for our final product which
included a lot of edititing and reshooting with some scenes. Also it looked
more professional and also had some newer and varies of camera shot.
Editing
Editing was similar but for our final product our skills where more superior
on editing than our preliminary task as we where limited with what we could
have done as we didn’t have much experience on garage band and final cut.
I have learnt that it takes time to get used to with the new programme but
once you know the editing skills its a lot more easier to cut, render and add
sound effects to your footage.
