breed. This breed is used for virtually
everything from working ranches and
pleasure riding and show jumping.
Arabian horse racing is also very common,
it gives the breed’s strength and stamina.
Introduction
3. Arabian Horse
Body Structure
-According to the Arabian Horse Association
(AHA), adults should measure between 14.1
and 15.1 hands high, or 57 to 61 inches. Given
this narrow range, the AHA notes that
individual animals may be slightly shorter or
taller. A healthy weight range is about 700
to 1,300 pounds.
-Purebred members of the breed, according
to the Arabian Horse Association, should be
gray, chestnut, roan or black in color.
Chestnut, gray and bay coats occur most
frequently, with roan and black being
relatively rare. Appaloosa Horse patterns are
not seen in this breed, but milder sabino or
rabicano spotting occur.
Types of Breeds
-The Arabian Horse Association registers
purebred horses with the coat colors bay,
gray, chestnut, black, and roan.Bay, gray and
chestnut are the most common black is less
common. The classic roan gene does not
appear to exist in Arabians; rather, Arabians
registered by breeders as “roan” are usually
expressing rabicano or sometimes sabino
patterns with roan features. All Arabians no
matter their coat color, have black skin,
except under white markings. Black
skin provided protection from the intense
desert sun.
4. Grooming
A long, luxurious mane and tail are
hallmarks of the Arabian horse.All
domesticated horses benefit from
having their manes and tails regularly to
remove dirt, tangles and debris. Horses
with short manes usually have their
manes combed, while horses with
longer manes are usually groomed with
a human hair brush or a stiff dandy
brush. Horses with extraordinarily long
manes and tails have their manes hand
picked to remove tangles.
5. It’s essential to inspect hooves daily for injuries or signs of a
potential infection. So coat brushing, mane trimming and other
care should be performed on an as-needed basis.
