your media product, and how did you
attract/address your audience?

We are aiming our product at westerners and
people within the western culture, also
including all ethnicities.
Our target audience are people who enjoy

made jump. The genres they enjoy are
supernatural and slasher horror films.
Other films which are target audience may
enjoy include:
• The Conjuring
• The Exorcist
• The Woman In Black
Who Were Our
Target Audience?
Definition:
The intended group for
which something is
performed or marketed;
the specific group to which a
dvertising is directed.
4. Research into other target audiences
of these films helped us define who
our target audience would be.
We also used focus groups and
talking head interviews to help
outline and visualise who we were
actually making our product for.

5. Inform and Educate
No. Our opening does not educate our
audience, but after asking our target
audience they agreed that in horror film
they want to be scared, not educated.
Entertain
Yes. We feel that the narrative and style of
filming which we have used will entertain
the people that we have aimed our product
at.
Escape
We allow our audience to escape into the
jouney of the little boy and the danger that
he faces, while the audience are still
comfortable
and safe!

6. Social interaction
Hopefully the original narrative will give our audience something to talk about and
discuss their opinions and thoughts.
Also, due to the age of our target audience they will all be users of the internet and
social media; so it will be easier for them to communicate and discuss between
each other.
Furthermore, the extensive use of social media in our target audience will mean
that audience feedback is very accessible for our production team.
Identify
At first we thought that this would be difficult to achieve in our opening as the
characters that we are using are not comparable to our target audience, but then
realised that the audience will empathise with the boy, and feel as if they are put
into his position.
Everyone at one point in their life has felt afraid or in danger, and our product
attempts to tap into these emotions.
Although this is not as direct and powerful as using someone from our target
audience within the opening, we feel that this is still a way for the audience to
identify with the characters
7. Our film opening allows audiences to
be get pleasure from a scary and
frightening experience which they
would not experience on a day to
day, real life basis.
Horror films also give bored
audiences a sense of excitement and
an adrenaline rush.
