Palatal rugae are anatomical folds located in the hard palate that can be used for human identification. There are several methods for analyzing and classifying rugae patterns using dental casts or photographs. A study analyzed pre- and post-orthodontic treatment casts to determine the stability of rugae patterns after treatment. The results showed a high percentage of correct matches between pre- and post-treatment casts, indicating rugae patterns remain stable after orthodontics. Reproducing rugae patterns in dentures can improve speech production compared to conventional smooth palate dentures. Spectral analysis was used to examine the effects of different denture designs on speech sounds.
