Gilgamesh And The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The maturation of Gilgamesh and his desire to acquire wisdom throughout his journey is quite
apparent. By overcoming difficulties such as upholding Uruk, becoming friends with Enkidu,
and various other scenarios, Gilgamesh proves that he did in fact grow up throughout the epic.
As the epic starts, Gilgamesh is portrayed as a self centered, self admiring leader who believes
that he is the only individual that can lead the city of Uruk. Gilgamesh believes that he is a god
like figure and often refers to himself as one. He believes that he is above everyone else in the
city of Uruk. For example, in the epic there is a scene where Gilgamesh enters the city of Uruk,
the epic describes the scene as; He entered the city of Uruk the Town Square, and a crowd
gathered around. He came to a halt in the street of Uruk the Town Square, all gathered about, the
people discussed him (15). This quote is a good example of how Gilgamesh expected those
around him to respect and look up to him as a god like figure. He did not lead the city of Uruk
humbly; he wasn t a leader who strived to feel like a normal citizen of the city. Instead,
Gilgamesh felt that he was entitled to more privileges than the average person. Early on in the
epic, Gilgamesh is described as a tall, magnificent and terrible, who opened passes in the
mountains, who dug wells on the slopes of the uplands, and crosses the ocean, the wide sea to the
sunrise (2). This demonstrates how selfish Gilgamesh truly was, and how all

Benefits Of Population Health
Population Health and Related Costs
Sugar sweetened beverages have high caloric values and low nutritional value. The positive
association between SSB consumption and cases of increased weights and risks for diabetes has
certainly drawn public attention. Other medical problems that are correlated include metabolic
syndrome, hypocalcemia, kidney stones, increased blood pressure, hypertension, and coronary heart
disease (DeSantis). According to a study commissioned by the World Health Organization(WHO),
20% of weight gain over thirty years in the US was caused by SSB consumption in children and
adults. An additional serving of one SSB per day is equated to an additional 0.06 unit increase in
body mass index per year and one half pound of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the penny per ounce tax were to be implemented nationwide, over ten years, there would be an
estimated savings of $9.6 billion for diabetes related costs and $7.4 billion for cardiovascular
disease related costs (Wang). Moreover, the reduction in numbers of strokes and premature deaths
linked to the consumption of SSBs further savings on medical costs. As a result, the nation can
reduce wasteful healthcare spending and focus on funding medical improvements.
Key Players
Though the tax is levied against the distributors of the sugar sweetened beverages, the concept
of tax passing is apparent as prices of taxed beverages is passed on to consumers. Differing from
the common sales tax, an excise tax is levied on producers and... passed on to the consumer via
the product s price tag (Wang). Data collected by the Public Health Instituted displayed that, in
Berkeley, where the excise tax had passed in 2014, store prices of taxed beverages were bumped
up. Adjusted for tax and inflation, prices for tax beverages rose from December 2014 to March
2016 by about $0.0107 per ounce in large supermarkets and $0.0131 per ounce in small chain
supermarkets and gas stations (Silver). Customers are being forced to pay prices increases than the
penny per ounce policy in order to obtain a single beverage.
On the other hand, smaller businesses experience more difficulty in the face of the SSB tax.

Leukocytes Research Paper
Leukocytes have a nucleus, do not contain haemoglobin and are much larger that erythrocytes.
They either have a spherical or an irregular shape and have important roles in the immune response.
There are two basic types of leukocytes, granulocytes which have a granular cytoplasm and a lobed
nuclei and agranulocytes which have a cytoplasm that has no granules making it appear smooth and
they have a rounded or horseshoe shaped nucleus. Granulocytes can be subdivided into neutrophils,
eosinophils, and basophils and agranulocytes can be subdivided into monocytes and lymphocytes
(Bethesda, 2005).
Neutrophils are polymorphonuclear cells, meaning they have a nucleus which is complex and
lobulated. They have three types of granules in their cytoplasm, gelatinase granules, azurophilic
granules and specific granules. The gelatinase granules aid neutrophils in the process of exiting the
bloodstream and help them to relocate to get to an infection site. The azurophilic and specific
granules give neutrophils the ability to kill microbes and they contain antimicrobial ... Show more

There are three different types, T cells, B cells and natural killer cells. T cells are generated in
the thymus gland and have a T cell receptor molecule that is specialised and is found on the cells
surface. T cells bind to antigens after it identifies them. The next type, B cells develop in the bone
marrow and they have a B cell receptor. This is a protein that is specialised, like T cells it is means
B cells are able to attach to specific antigens that they identify. Both T cells and B cells have
binding sites that are highly specific, this enable them to identify antigens that have invaded the
body and stick to them, Lastly, natural killer cells have a cytotoxic nature which means they can
destroy cells. Also, they have the ability to identify cells that have been infected by a virus and

Accounting And Financial Methods And Tools
Firm valuation relates to accounting in that it uses a combination of both accounting and financial
methods and tools. Some of the accounting tools used includes the valuation of firms assets,
valuation of a firm s profit and loss and also the valuation of a firm s obligations, which are
liabilities. Just like accounting, firm valuation process follows defined steps so as to arrive at the
correct value of the firm that is free from errors. There are five steps involved; preparation and
planning, adjusting the financial statements, choosing the business valuationmethods, applying the
selected valuation method and finally reaching the firm valuation conclusion. (Candon, 78). On the
first step, the most valuable thing is to determine the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the determination of how and under what conditions of measuring the firm s value, the next
step is the gathering of relevant data and information that impacts the firm value. (Howard, 97).
Such data include; steady earnings above the industry norm, good marketing plans, skilled and
motivated staff, and well documented financial and accounting statements and well detailed
business procedures that are written down.
Some of the gathered data such as the firm s historical financial statements are adjusted so as to
prepare the inputs required for the firm s valuation methods and hence it leads us to the second step.
The main financial statements required for the firm s valuation are the income statement and the
balance sheet that are produced by the accounting process. This further shows the relationship
between firm valuation and accounting. The best way to value a firm with a historical approach
would be looking at the historical statements, income statement and balance sheet. Smaller firms
should be looked at the last three to five years while larger firms should have a longer period to
check. Due to the fact that, business owners have considerable discretion in how they use the firm s
assets and also what expenses and income they recognize, this rise the need to adjust the firm s
historical records. Constructing an accurate relationship between the required firm s assets and

Impact Of The Romani Communities And Mainstream Slovak...
The continued disparity between the Romani communities and mainstream Slovak society has been
further highlighted recently by their children now being forced to attend ethnically segregated
mainstream schools and classes. The continued investment in so called container schools can
drastically hinder the Romani children s ability to advance to a higher education. It can also become
a hurdle preventing this community to gain sufficient employment to survive and therefore be a
full contributor to the country they call home. By looking at the Republic of Slovakiaunder the
following headings; political, military, economic, social, infrastructure, information, physical
environment and time (PMESII PT), gaps can be seen that continue to allow for human rights
issues like that with the Roma today to be in the forefront.
TIME
The history of the Slovak nation began in the eleventh century when it was ruled by Hungary. The
Slovaks ancestors were identified as inhabitants of Upper Hungary (more simply known as The
Highlands ). By the nineteenth century, despite the drive by the Hungarian rulers to Magyarize the
multiethnic population of their kingdom, the Slovaks had created a mythologized identity, linking
themselves with the ninth century Slavic kingdom of Great Moravia. In 1918, at the end of World
War I, Slovakia materialized as its own geopolitical unit, not on its own however, but within the
new country of Czechoslovakia. In 1993, for the third time in the twentieth

impact that this war had on our country and that these names are actual people. They are brothers,
fathers, sons, uncles, friends. These individuals left their family, their wives, their children. Some
gave their lives, and some gave their sanity, but they all suffered for something much bigger. Many
Americans fought in the VietnamWar some against their will, many as young as 18 years of age.

Persuasive Essay About Gay Adoption
Isabel Redinger
Miss Windish
English II
7 October 2017
At Least Some Kids will Have a Fashion Sense Unhealthy, immoral, and harmful. What do these
words have in common? They don t describe gay adoption. The common misconceptualization
that gay people get to choose their sexuality is false, so why should parents who were born with
a different sexuality be scorned for wanting to adopt? Most people agree with the statement that
children deserve to live in a home with a loving family rather than be stuck in an orphanage until
they re old enough to live alone. Same sex adoption has success stories, studies, and statistics that
back up why it s a great thing that should be legally allowed. In America, every state is legally
obligated to allow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harm inflicted on gay people is sometimes caused when people try to force people to fit gender
roles.Violence can be influenced when people are around peers, causing these acts to usually occur
in front of or with friends who are also homophobic. These unruly behaviors stem from people who
want to have close relationships mixing with an over exaggerated sense of masculinity. One
attacker stated that they feel as though LGBT people should be ashamed of being different, and
another abuser targeted gay people for not conforming to his idea of masculinity (Franklin).
There are many common myths about gay adoption. One popular argument is that having two
parents of the same gender means that role models aren t being fit correctly. What people don t
consider is that these role models aren t being fit when kids are forced to live in orphanages due
to laws preventing gay people from adopting them. Parents aren t the only role models for kids.
Uncles, aunts, teachers, and other adults in the lives of children can all be excellent role models.
Another common myth is that people in LGBT relations can t be good influences and will teach
their children to be unethical and dishonest. The truth of the matter is that the sexuality of a parent
has nothing to do with what type of behavior they show as far as ethics and honesty work. One
worry that people who are against gay adoption have is that children of LGBT parents will be

Menopause And Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
Menopause and Hormone Replacement Therapy
WHAT IS HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY?
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is the use of manmade (synthetic) hormones to replace
hormones that your body stops producing during menopause.
Menopause is the normal time of life when menstrual periods stop completely and your ovaries stop
producing the female hormones estrogen and progesterone. This can affect your health and cause
undesirable symptoms. HRT can relieve some of those symptoms.
WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS FOR HORMONEREPLACEMENT THERAPY?
HRT may consist of the hormones estrogen and progestin, or it may consist of estrogen only
(estrogen only therapy). You and your health care provider must decide which form of HRT is best
for you.
If you chose to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to:
Begin HRT with the lowest possible dosage.
Stop HRT as soon as your health care provider tells you to.
Work with your health care provider so that you feel informed and comfortable with your decisions.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY?
HRT can reduce the frequency and severity of menopausal symptoms. Benefits of HRT vary for
each woman, depending on what menopausal symptoms you have, how severe they are, and your
overall health.
HRT may help to improve the following menopausal symptoms:
Hot flashes and night sweats. These are sudden feelings of heat that spread over the face and body.
The skin may turn red, like a blush. Night sweats are hot flashes that happen when you are sleeping
or trying to sleep.
Bone loss (osteoporosis). The body loses calcium more quickly after menopause, causing your
bones to become weaker. This can make bone breaks (fractures) more likely.
Vaginal dryness. The lining of the vagina can become thin and dry, which can cause pain during
sexual intercourse, infection, burning, or itching.

A Brief Note On The World Bank Cambodia Sub Project
efore zeroing in on the World Bank Cambodia Sub project, a quick review of the World Bank

the project.
At the dusk of the Second World War (WWII), there were concerns to the stability of the global
economic markets. The stability of international currency markets, and international trades were
deemed critical to averting crises such as the great depression of 1930, which eventually lead to the
war.
Representatives of about 40 countries met in New Hampshire to deliberate and chart a course for a
new international financial order. It was at the Bretton Woods Conference that the foundations of
World Bank and International Monetary Fund (both jointly referred to as International Financial
Institutions, IFIs) were laid (The Levin Institute, 2015).
The WBG mission statement states that it aims to reduce poverty I middle income and creditworthy
poorer countries by promoting sustainable developments, through loans, guarantees, and non

Epidemiology Hepatitis B
Epidemiology
Hepatitis B affects 1 in 3 people worldwide (Hepatitis B Foundation [HBF], 2014). A vaccine has
been available for over 30 years, yet it is the ninth leading cause of death worldwide (HBF, 2014).
The epidemiology of hepatitis B, the role of the community health nurse along with the knowledge
about what is being done to combat and reduce the impact of the virus gives a comprehensive look
at hepatitis B.
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a DNA virus, and belongs to the Hepadnaviridae family of viruses
(World Health Organization [WHO], 2014). The virus interferes with liver function and liver
damage is caused from the inflammation from the body s immune response. Jaundice is the classic

The goal is to decrease transmission and stop or decrease damage to the liver (WHO, 2014). A
vaccine was made available in 1982 that is 95% effective in protection against hepatitis B (WHO,
2014).
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2013), cases of acute and
chronic hepatitis B are underreported in the United States (U.S.). Acute cases have been declining
related to vaccination, but chronic hepatitis B cases may be as much as 1.4 million of the U.S.
population. In 2011 the CDC (2013) reported 2,700 cases of acute hepatitis B, which after
adjustment for underreporting is 18,800 cases. In 2010 there were 1,792 deaths from hepatitis B,
which is 0.5 per 100,00 population.
Figure 1 Epidemiological Triangle
According to the WHO (2014) the highest prevalence for hepatitis B is in East Asia, and the Sub
Saharan African region. Infants born to mothers infected with hepatitis B and early childhood
transmission account for a third of the chronic infections in endemic areas (WHO, 2014). Drug
users who share needles, unprotected sexual contact with a partner positive for HBV, multiple
sexual partners, male with male sexual contact, health care providers, or living with someone
positive for HBV increases the risk of hepatitis B infection. Each of these categories has increased
exposure to blood or body fluids infected with hepatitis B.

Systems Theory Application And System Theory
Systems Theory Application Organizations can be thought of as a system. Systems are defined as
a collection of independent components which are interrelated and work together to accomplish
goals. A system can be an organization as a whole, departments within the organization, and
groups within the organization or processes (Hayajneh, 2007). Systems can be either an open
system or a closed system. An open system has characteristics of interacting with the environment
(Encyclopedia of Management, 2006). The purpose of this paper is to give a description of a
department within a known health care organization using system theory terminology. The Nursing
Services Delivery Theory (NSDT) will be the theory of focus for this paper. A description of a
problem within a specific department will be identified using an open system approach. Using the
NSDT model, the problem s positioning within the model will be explained. An explanation of how
the problem will be addressed along with the desired outcome and goals that will facilitate the
outcome. New procedures will be identified and how the proposed resolution will follow the
organization s mission and values, improving the culture and climate of the department. Department
Description The department of focus is the Emergency Department (ED) in a Ministry Health
System Hospital located in Wisconsin. The ED is an open system as it continually interacts with the
environment. In a contemporary healthcare system, the

College Football Players Should Get Paid
Football is a challenging sport that not many individuals are blessed with the skills in order to play.
As stated in the article Top 10 Reasons College Football Players Should Get Paid Players who stay
in college for four years might sacrifice a year or two of earnings In order to stay in school long
enough to earn a degree , you must be dedicated to your grades and credits you need to succeed.
There are by far 100 reasons why college footballathlete should get paid. They invest about 50 60
hours a week and lower to 40 50 hours a week once the season and classes begin along with 12 15
hours of weight training and 15 20 hours a week getting ready for the spring season. They invest
their blood, sweat, and tears just to do what they love and put their all into it in order to have a
chance to get drafted to a better school and pursue their dreams. There are thousands of
foundations that are invested in the colleges make money off of the players but the individuals
that are actually doing most of the work, the real hard work, don t and that s unfair and yes we
all know sports are not meant to be fair but when it comes to your career you have to do what
you have to do. Let s talk more about the other factors that claim why college football athletes
should get paid. majority of the coaches make $53.4 million in salaries and 0% goes the
athletes. NCAA College Football Makes Money then so should the college players. The NCAA
and its most well known teams make a profit along with The University of Texas made over $100
million in profit in just a year of 2011. With so much money coming in you would think at least
25% would go to the players, the players are expected to do slave labor without a cut? This
whole debate is coming down to fairness. The logical reason why the college football athletes
don t get paid is that most of them got full ride scholarships to college, I understand that they are
there for education, not money and the sport doesn t have enough money to pay the college
athletes but even a small percentage of some kind of income would be generous. There are athletes
that get their jersey sold for mounts of money but get nothing from it. The jersey they bleed, sweat

Essay on Shakespeare s Soliloquies
Hamlet s Soliloquy
The purpose of a soliloquy is to outline the thoughts and feelings of a certain character at a point in
the play. It reveals the innermost beliefs of the character and offers an unbiased perspective as it is
merely the character talking to the audience, albeit not directly, and not to any other characters who
may cause the character to withhold their true opinions. Therefore, Hamlet s first soliloquy (act 1,
scene 2) is essential to the play as it highlights his inner conflict caused by the events of the play. It
reveals his true feelings and as such emphasizes the difference between his public appearance, his
attitude towards Claudius in the previous scene is less confrontational than here where he is ... Show

Hamlet communicates that his father was a divine, almost god like character, so excellent a king
, who was so loving to my mother . He also illustrates the contrast between the new king and the
old and as such his mother s choice, Hyperion to a satyr . This example of extreme contrast
increases the importance of Hamlet s father and yet also makes a mockery of Claudius character;
one which, to this point, the audience could have seen as strong and domineering.
When Hamlet says, Frailty, thy name is woman , he is personifying frailty as the entire of the
female race. The actions of his mother have lead him to believe that all women are capable of
acting in this wicked way and that all women are weak. Alongside the image of his father that is
communicated, Hamlet is saying, and therefore feeling, that the people that he could look up to in
life have departed and that his entire world has been altered, It is not nor it cannot come to good .
The distressed nature of Hamlet s mind is also communicated well by the imagery that is used
throughout the soliloquy. At the start, Hamlet says that he wants his too solid flesh to ...melt,
thaw, and resolve itself into a dew . This goes alongside the later lines, How weary, stale, flat and
unprofitable seem to me all the uses of this world , where the build up of adjectives, one after the
other, serves to highlight

The Professor And The Madman Analysis

accomplishments, the OED is even more set apart from the rest by its unusual history. Winchester
explores the life of one of its most prominent benefactor and his bizarre fingerprint he made on
the creation of the first complete dictionary. William Chester Minor grew up in the British colony
on the coast of India in Ceylon. At an early age Minor grew up like any healthy, normal boy
would; until he began his process into adulthood. Minor was an abnormally gentle young boy;
where most young teenagers fought and wrestled, Minor read books and painted. The pubescent

Frequently he complained of pygmies climbing into his room through the baseboards and

ultimately mutilates his body and removes his manhood. During the forty four years he stayed at
the asylum in England, word reached him of the great creation of the OED. The director of the
lexicographic team, James Murray, sent letters to find candidates that ,which in return, would find
compelling words and definitions to include in the dictionary. Minor was ecstatic to apply for such
a demanding position. Corresponding with the team of lexicographers, Minor s mental condition

The College Republicans Of Liberty University
Final Critique
The client that my group chose to work with was the College Republicans of Liberty University.
Since this semester was during presidential election cycle, the client was happy to have our
assistance with helping promote the club. During this semester, many challenges occurred that both
the club and our group faced; however, we were able to accomplish the goals that the client wanted
to accomplish from our project.
Goal and Organization at Initial Development of Project
At the beginning of the semester, our group spoke with the client to develop several goals that
they wanted our group to achieve throughout this semester. After speaking to the Vice Chairman
John Wood (2016), one of the main tasks that he wanted our group to assist the club with
accomplishing was to use the election to boost engagement within the club for both club meeting
attendance and also visibility on social media. Since the media was covering he election for a
large part of the day, Wood discussed the idea that since the media is covering the election for a
large part of the day, politics is on the mind of people more now than it would be during midterm
elections. By using the fact that the election is top of mind for many individuals at Liberty, the
club wanted to take advantage of this season and also gain members. The last goal that the club
wanted to accomplish was to increase voter registration and voter turnout on Election Day.

Capturing the Reality of the Vietnam War in The Deer Hunter and Apocalypse Now
The Deer Hunter and Apocalypse Now are two films which deal, at a very personal level, with
American involvement in the Vietnam War. Although the style and narrative of each film are quite
different a strong theme of journeys is what binds the two films together, perhaps more so than the
theme of the Vietnam War itself. These are journeys of self discovery and self destruction and in
the sense that the central characters ideals become twisted by war and their value of life itself
diminished. It is possible to claim that these films provide salves for a wounded nation . In each

Just like Satan questioned God s rule, Kurtz has questioned America s. When Satan chose to

It is better to reign in Hell, than to serve in heaven John Milton. In Apocalypse Now , Colonel Kurtz
chooses to reign in hell (the jungle). I believe that the feature of man s breaking point and
temptation of man to play God is historically accurate but also allows America to offload some of
the blame onto members of the army who rebelled against American leadership.
During Apocalypse Now , Francis Ford Coppola uses plenty of imagery to get across to the
viewer the confusion and horror of war. The first example of this is when we hear the voice
recording of Kurtz in the jungle. He talks about his nightmare where he sees a snail crawling
along the edge of a straight razor . This snail represents Colonel Kurtz as, in his insanity, he is
confused between good and evil and the temptation to play God. Kurtz does end up playing God.

The idea is also known as existentialism. The terminology of existentialism is a philosophical
movement which respects the individual existence, freedom and choice. Existentialism can be used
both for philosophical concepts and for literary work. Albert Camus rebuff to the perception of
being called existentialism . He, himself refused to be called as an existentialist. One reason being
is that he attempted to restrict his ideas into a pre defined category. Another reason that can be

Usc Core Statement On Diversity
The University of Southern California claims that its mission is to demonstrate an enduring
commitment to diversity of thought, experience, and people . USC constitutes a significant portion
of Los Angeles s population and it is constantly expanding its reach on the surrounding area. In
recent months, USC held its grand opening of University Village, UV, another massive addition to
the campus. President Max Nikias claims that this construction will reinvigorate the neglected
neighborhood, however this space is itself a contradiction to USC s core statement on diversity
because of its socioeconomic and cultural exclusivity. The university wiped out the international

Naturally, a mall with eclectic cultural restaurants and stores will attract a wide array of people, but
now, while walking around UV, the only people that students will encounter are other USC
students. This is how the removal of the international food court further reduces diversity in the
surrounding area. Additionally, small business owners were largely responsible for the operation of
the establishments at the international food court. Members of the community staffed the
restaurants, and more often than not, those employees were selling food from their own diverse
culture. Now that USC students on work study are responsible for staffing most of the restaurants in
the village, another piece of cultural diversity has been lost. Additionally, revenue at these
establishments can no longer enrich the lives of community members, but instead will go straight
to the corporate chain restaurants that exist now. In sweeping out the authentic, one of a kind small
businesses of the food court, USC showed little regard for supporting cultural diversity. Not only
does this wipeout of various small businesses tend to attract a less diverse customer base, but the

Rules And Controls In Anthem By Ayn Rand
Anthem s Society Anthem is a book written by Ayn Rand and is about a boy who lives in a
future society where there are numerous rules and controls which keep people in line. It is
forbidden to be alone therefore everyone is required to say plural pronouns and it is illegal to say
personal pronouns. In real life, the present is the past in anthem and is called the unmentionable
times. The extensive rules may be present because of what the people of the unmentionable times
has done to the Earth like pollution or destroying other life on Earth so the new society was created
to fix this and create a new population which would not pollute the Earth and destroy the wildlife as

The rule of never being alone would affect the generations by never having people be able to do
things by themselves and let everyone be lazier by doing only half of their work, because there

Has The Airplane Revolutionized Our Society
Our society has been revolutionized greatly over the past century; not the least of which concerns
the advent of both the automobile and the plane. These two mediums of transportation have

The Consequences Of King Leopold II
Striving to not be left behind by the African colonial train king Leopold II s attainment of the
Congolese people left a scar that is still very visible today. His hunger for power, money, and
global recognition by the European powers drastically altered the way of life for those residing in
the Congo for generations. King Leopold II s authority of the Congowas solidified during the Berlin
Conference as the he had convinced the European powers of the necessity of Belgiums presence in
the Congo under the guise of charity. With the support of the Berlin Conference and the aid of
Henry Stanley, an African explorer who was assigned to make the Congo fit for King Leopold
II, the Congo fell into Belgium s control in as tribal leader signed away their rights unbeknownst
of the consequences. King Leopold II s control over the Congo colony was absolute and enforced
by an army with up to 16,000 troops creating a prison state where the only rights the Congolese
people held was the right to serve the King.
During the colonial period, many of the European powers believed it was their duty to finance the
colony, regrettably King Leopold II was of another opinion and believed the colony should support
the mother country. Unfortunately, his belief was not fruitful and the colony began to financially
cripple the king, until 1888 when John Dunlap s invention of the pneumatic tire created a large
market for rubber which was immediately monopolized on by the King. As the demand for rubber

Analysis Of The Article The Pelican Brief
The Wetlands In Grisham s novel, The Pelican Brief, he presents a case where an organization
attempts to protect the coastal marshes of Louisiana against the selfish oil companies and citizens
that wish to destroy it for money. This is a tremendous concern that people deal with in America.
John Grisham wrote The Pelican Brief, in 1992 and it was one of his best selling books. Louisiana
s marshes are being destroyed and are suffering greatly because of humans. Grisham shows
extensive knowledge of the wetlands as well as the wildlife through discussing the endangered
Brown Pelican and how humans have brought it to the brink of extinction. Numberless amounts of
waterfowl, birds, and countless species that call Louisiana home are now being terrorized thanks
to non native species, humans and a numerous amount of different causes. The Brown Pelican,
Louisiana s state bird, has been endangered until 1995, and about half of all the geese in North
America spend the winter in the coastal marshes (Elliott, Charles). Additionally, Louisiana is the
leading state for the number of wintering ducks (ВЁSGPВЁ). The marshes are extremely
important to the fowl that live there year round and for the ones that do not. The Bobwhite Quail,
that live there year round, have suffered huge losses to their population. From 1966 they have
declined 75%, primarily due to habitat degradation (ВЁSGPВЁ). One of the reasons populations of
fowl have been going down is the result of invasive species. The common

How The CIA Killed The Bay Of Pigs Invasion
Investigation
After ousting U.S. supported Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1959, Fidel Castro came to
power and began to nationalize American assets in retaliation to a trade embargo. The CIA and
the Eisenhower administration began to formulate a plan to remove Castro from power. While
Eisenhower had started the process for the Bay of Pigs invasion, it would take place 3 months
after Kennedy was sworn into office. Inspired by an U.S. led revolution in Guatemala in 1954, the
CIA and the White House sought to create a revolution in Cuba without any ties to U.S.
interference. Lyman B. Kirkpatrick, CIA inspector general, stated no one seriously studied whether
it was even possible to overthrow Castro in the first place. Strong indications existed that it wasn t

neglecting fatal flaws in the invasion plan.
Going into planning for the invasion, the CIA looked to repeat what it had accomplished in
Guatemala in 1954, where it successfully established a coup d etat to remove Jacobo Arbenz from
power. In a meeting with the Bay of Pigs Project Director Jake Esterline, Dave Phillips, who had

who failed to get presidential support for their plan in its entirety, to grasp that they did not have
the support of the Cuban people, and to maintain secrecy of the invasion plans, not the Kennedy
administration. The CIA had failed to properly inform Kennedy about the necessity of air support,
which was a direct cause of the failure of the invasion (Fursenko and Naftali,

Fortinbras Laertes And Hamlet Comparison
In William Shakespeare s tragedy Hamlet , Fortinbras, Laertes, and Hamlet find themselves in very
similar situations. They all had love and respect for their father s and felt the need to avenge their
unjustified deaths. However, there are differences between them. The character of Fortinbras was
the only one to accomplish his goal and become king of Denmark in the end. Shakespeare s
comment through Fortinbras as a man of action, allowed the audience to see that he acts rather than
thinks.
Hamlet is portrayed as weak and indecisive. When he is confronted with meeting the ghost of his
father and asked to avenge his death, he quickly agrees to the revenge and comes up with a plan
to fool everyone into thinking he is crazy. However, he is seen as a man who does not act, with
his inability to make decisions or quick actions does not help his plan of revenge.
GHOST
Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder.
HAMLET
Murder?
GHOST
Murder most foul, as in the best it is,
But this most foul, strange, and unnatural.
HAMLET
Haste me to know t, that I, with wings as swift
As meditation or the thoughts of love,
May sweep to my revenge. (1.5.25 31)
The reader wonders if Hamlet had known who the killer was before, he would have still agreed
to help so quickly. After he vows to his father to avenge him, Hamlet becomes obsessed with the
thought of avenging his father s death and making everyone believe he is crazy, rather than act on
what he first set out to do. We see as he

1984 Comparison Essay
George Orwell s 1984 is a great allegory about life under communist rule. Throughout the book
there are many concepts that directly relate to the rule of Josef Stalin in the U.S.S.R. The first
evidence can be seen in the posters of Big Brother that are posted everywhere around London.
These posters are described as having the face of a man of about forty five, with a heavy black
mustache and ruggedly handsome features . (1) Similarly, most if not all of the Stalin era
propaganda posters featured an image of Stalin which resembles the description of Big Brother. The
resemblance of Big Brother to Stalin is not the only reference to communism in 1984. Another
connection that could be made between communism and Oceanic society is economic.... Show more

there is also the control of the media. Similar to how the Party controlled every medium in
Oceania; Stalin s communist party controlled every medium in the U.S.S.R. during its reign and
any sort of political unorthodoxy was forbidden.(lib) In both instances nothing that cast either
Big Brother or Stalin in a negative light was allowed. Consequently, both Stalin and Big Brother
developed a cult of personality . This meant that since everything about them was portrayed in a
positive light they were idolized by the people in their nation. This is evidenced in 1984 by the
passage about how Big Brother is to be seen in Goldstein s book, Big Brother is infallible and all
powerful. Every success, every achievement, every victory, every scientific discovery, all
knowledge, all wisdom, all happiness, all virtue, are held to issue directly from his leadership
and inspiration. (121) This is why the term Big Brother was used in 1984 he was the savior of the
people, their protector. A real life parallel to this is that Stalin was commonly referred to as Uncle
Joe. The effect of the media control turned them both into objects of adulation that could do no

Using Vernacular Architecture And On The Passive...
According to Natural History Museum (2015), modern humans have been around for nearly
200,000 years, and in our journey to the present, humans have learnt many ways to survive. From
hygiene to hyperplasia, people have come to know the best way possible to survive in the living
conditions they lived. To help protect themselves from sun, wind, rain, snow and even enemies, one
of the methods used is what today is called vernacular architecture.
The practice of designing and constructing a building today may seem easy with modern technology
at our finger tips, however 500 years, one can imagine the difficulties, trial and errors the inhabitants
of different geographical locations had to go through just to provide suitable shelter for themselves.
These trail and errors throughout the history have benefited many civilizations and bring forward
bundles of knowledge. For this reason, the objective of this research report is to explore vernacular
architecture and to expand on the passive engineering techniques used in times when technology
was not so readily available as we have today. Also, an analysis of the different lessons learnt from
these techniques will help determine the contribution it has made to sustainable architecture and
awareness.

Representative Heuristics
There are four different rules of heuristics in social psychology representative heuristics, availability
heuristics, anchoring and adjustment heuristics, and finally status quo heuristics. Often people
employ heuristics to come to conclusions about a topic rather quickly than sitting and taking their
time to go through the standard notions of problem solving to finally make a decision. A heuristic
is a judgement that may conclude in a probable answer, but may not always be the exact answer
overall, or could be the wrong answer altogether. They do not take into account the base rate of an
event. A base rate can be defined as the actual calculated number of events that happen in the total
population being referenced. A representative heuristic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

issues may pop up along the way, in reality consequently setting them up to not reaching the
optimum deadline or goal. Overall, it is very imperative to consider all of your options and possible

Hunter Thompson Gonzo Journalism
The excess use of guns, booze, and too many drugs to count easily summarizes the life and writing
of Hunter S. Thompson. The American culture of the 1960s began to alter with the hippie
generation, and the same old drab writing was not fulfilling the desires of the American reader.
During the 1970s, American literature and journalism transformed in a way that no one would have
ever been able to predict. Thompson found a way to turn the tables, and effected generations to
come in a new dynamic writing style that many authors and journalist nowadays adopt. The life and
writing of Hunter S. Thompsonhad great influence on the creation of gonzo journalism, politics,
and American culture. Even after forty years, Hunter S. Thompson s creation of gonzo journalism
became a fashionable style of writing that remains impersonated. Gonzo journalism has numerous
different characteristics; one of the most predominant is writing as a triple agent. To write in this
style one becomes the biographical author and a narrator at the same time. In a journal from Olga
Fayzullina she describes gonzo journalism as, The author s position is always dual, on the one
hand, he is an observer and witness of real events, on the other hand, and he is an active participant
who shows the high degree of reflection and self reflection. (276). Furthermore, another key to
gonzo journalism is the use of fact and fiction integrated together to portray a desired message to
the reader. The use of gonzo journalism

A Note On Subprime Loans
Recent mayhem in the American economy attributed to a weakening of business regulation. In the
absence of oversight, lending became a wildcat enterprise. Mortgage brokers easily deceived
home buyers by promoting subprime loans, and then they passed on bundled documents to unwary
investors. These subprime loans were offered at a rate above prime to individuals who did not
qualify for prime rate loans. The loans were made to people who had no other way to access funds,
and little understanding of the mechanics of the loan. A scholarly document on subprime lendingby

agencies, communities, and many others who have a stake or claim in some aspect of a company s
product, operations, markets, industry, and outcome are known as stakeholders (p. 30).
Although most corporations have emphasized shareholders as the most important stakeholder
group, the failure to consider all significant stakeholders can lead to ethical lapses. Stakeholders
are likely to shift their prospective of a company after unethical actions have been exposed to the
public. The key stakeholders in this situation are the Wal Mart associates, taxpayers, and
shareholders. The stakeholder model of corporate social responsibility considers obligations firms
may face as moral agents to employees, customers and other stakeholders. Most employees rely on
their employer to provide some type of health care benefits because most cannot afford health

Today, the group has become one of the largest defence contractors in the world with customers
over 100 countries and combined sales of group exceeding ВЈ22bn in 2010, compared to ВЈ13bn in
2006.
BAE Systems had a market capitalisation of ВЈ11.3bn as on 31 December 2010 whereas its net
assets on year end had a value of ВЈ5.4bn. The difference in the figures itself illustrates the
company s value and position in the market.

(Source: Defense News)
Note: The Defense News figures were used to avoid inaccuracies of exchange rates when
converting BAE figures from ВЈ to $ for each year. Defense News has not published the 2010
figures yet.
As indicated in Chart 2, BAE has had consistent growth in revenue over the last five years which
is in line with the growth in the industry itself. However, BAE had the highest relative growth
among its competitors and surpassed both Northrop and Boeing to become the second largest
defence contractor from number four in 2005. Such steady growth has placed the company in a
superior position in the industry. It has also given BAE the ability to continue to compete against
its rivals and win contracts for national governments as well as develop advanced products.
BAE s growth over the years has been fuelled by defence spending of its two main buyers, US and

French and American Criminal Justice Systems Essay
French and American Criminal Justice Systems
There many different criminal justice systems in the world today. Some that consists of many of
the same policies and some that are considerably different. In the case of France and the U.S.
there are a lot of similarities, but I will be focusing on the differences between each of their
systems. The aspects that I will be comparing are police, courts, the legal profession, legal education
, criminal procedural law, corrections, and juvenile justice and the advantages and disadvantages of
each.
The policing system in France is a lot different than the one in the U.S. In France there is one big
centralized police system run by the government. Unlike the fragmented police model, which is ...

In France they have the Constitutional council which has nine members serving a nine year term,
they are responsible for election complaints and the legislation made in parliament. The advantage
of this is that it reduces the conflict of jurisdictions. But the disadvantage is that our Supreme Court
has a longer term than the Constitutional Council which allows more constant laws and fewer laws
that will contradict each other.
The aspect of legal profession and legal education is also extremely different. To become a judge
in France you must first obtain a law degree from a university law school. Next you must gain
admission to the National School for the Judiciary at Bordeaux (Terrill 236). After completing
this school, the candidate is now qualified to become a judge. The French system allows judges
to begin their profession at an early age which could be a disadvantage because of lack of
experience in the system, where judges in the United States are usually older and more
knowledgeable.
The legal education is noticeably different from America. In France, students enter a university
when they are approximately 18 years old, after they have completed their high school education
with an award of the baccalaureate diploma (Terrill 242). In America you must go through
undergraduate and graduate law school, and then pass the bar in order to get your law degree. It s
an advantage because students in France start their career a

Essay On The First To Vanish
The First to Vanish Christopher Mulholland had a long day on the first day of his tour in Bath,
halfway through the tour it was canceled due to a storm coming in. It was getting late, the wind
was howling, and the storm clouds he heard about could be seen in the distance. He held tightly
onto his luggage as he walked down a deserted road. There was only one other person than him
on the road and he was heading for his home. Hey, can you please help me, I need to find a place
for the night, Christopher asked as h caught up to him, and it started to drizzle. Ah, why not try
the Bell and Dragon, it was newly built not to long ago, it s just down the road, or if you don t
want to be in the rain for much longer, you can try one of the Bed and... Show more content on

They both stopped and she turned and said, Only you so far. Christopher barely noticed but she
studied him. She started heading back up the stairs and Christopher followed. Now this is your
room, she said as she opened a door on the third floor, I do hope you like it Mr. Perkins, is it
Perkins? No, it s Mulholland, and thank you, the room is lovely, Christopher said as he walked
in and studied the room. He set his luggage down and started unpacking. When your done, please
come down and sign the book Mr. Mulholland, the landlady said as she left the room. A few
minutes later, Christopher made it back down to the lobby. He started thinking that she was a
bit dotty as he reached the book. He opened it up and signed it, noticing he was the first one to
write a name down. Suddenly, a colorful parrot flew down the stairs and landed in a birdcage.
The parrot startled Christopher so much, he almost fell backwards. Hello, Hello, the parrot
squawked at Christopher. Hello little parrot, he whispered with a smile. So I see you met my
little parrot, Ginger, the landlady said as she came into the room with a silver tea tray. She came
over and sat the tray down onto the table. Oh, I have a question, Christopher said as he turned
around and saw her already pouring out some tea. Why is my name the only name in the book?
Am I really the first to come here? No, many people come by, but I m a bit choosy with who

The Importance Of Prisons In The Prison System
Summary
The United States currently holds around 2 million prisoners, or around 25% of the world s
prison population (Prisonstudies.org). Furthermore, a large percentage of American prisoners are
from minority groups, and many others are charged for petty crimes such as non violent drug
offenses. People convicted of low level crimes experience the same kind of treatment as what a
violent convict would reasonably receive. These convicts tend to be deprived from basic rights,
get into gang fights on a daily basis and are emotionally deprived.
Across the world, different countries treat their prisoners differently. There are some countries, like
Brazil, that completely deprive prisoner s rights. On the other hand, prisoners in Norway are given
VIP treatment to be able to integrate themselves to society once again. It is unfortunate that these
extreme differences exist across the globe. Unlike Brazil and Norway, America has average if not,
below average treatment in prisons.
The correctional prison system spends a great deal of money on its system; it is greater than the
school budget (Kelly). Why is the US government investing more in its prisons rather than in its
educational facilities? In addition, the most notorious prisons stuff as many prisoners into the tiny
cells. The conditions are merely inhumane, and the government keeps funding these correctional
institutions. From our research, we have learned that American prisoners deserve better resources

The World s Largest Gas Company For Gas
For over 40 years, Europe has been relying on Russia for the importation of energy, such as oil.5
One of Russia s major gas company, Gazprom, is one of the world s largest gas distributing
companies, causing many countries to become dependent on the Russian company for gas. In
2015 alone, Gazprom exported around 158 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe, and of those
European countries to have received gas, Germany was the highest, with an import of 45.31 billion
cubic meters of Gazprom gas. Countries in the Baltic region and countries in south eastern Europe
are usually very dependent on Russian gas. The European Unionis Russia s most involved trading
partner, especially when it comes in terms of oil. About 41% of Russia s exports are sent to EU
countries.7 According to Gazprom s statistics, Western European countries make up 82% of
Gazprom s exports, and Central European countries make up 18% of their exports.3 These
numbers are significant because it displays Europe s major dependence on Russian oil, which is a
major problem, because of Russia s ability to deprive Europe of energy at any given time, as shown
from 2006 to 2009, when Russia cut off Ukraine s gas line due to disputes regarding gas prices.23
If Russia decides to shut off gas to a region, it can lead to people being without ways to heat their
homes or cook their food, leaving a big liability on the people. Europe s vulnerability to these gas
shortages gives Russian leverage over many EU countries who heavily

Cuba And Embargo Essay example
Cuba and the Affects of the Embargo The island nation of Cuba, located just ninety miles off the
coast of Florida, is home to 11 million people and has one of the few remaining communist
regimes in the world. Cuba s leader, Fidel Castro, came to power in 1959 and immediately
instituted a communist program of sweeping economic and social changes. Castroallied his
government with the Soviet Union and seized and nationalized billions of dollars of American
property. U.S. relationswith Cuba have been strained ever since. A trade embargo against Cuba that
was imposed in 1960 is still in place today. Despite severe economic suffering and increasing
isolation from the world community, Castro remains committed to communism. (Close Up... Show

Supporters of the legislation believe that prohibiting foreign investment will quicken Castro s
downfall. (Close Up Foundation) Many debate on the issue of why the U.S. should or shouldn t
keep the ebargo against Cuba. These debates deal with the effects of the Embargo on Cuba s
economy, humanitarian rights and health of the people of Cuba. The embargo today places a ban
on subsidiary trade, Licensing, shipping and humanitarian aid. (Close Up Foundation) In 1992,
the Cuban Democracy act imposed a ban on subsidiary trade with Cuba. This ban restricted Cuba
s ability to import medicines and medical supplies from third country sources. There have also
been corporate buy outs and mergers between U.S. and European pharmaceutical companies thus
adding to the number of companies permitted to do business with Cuba. Under the Cuban
Democracy Act, The U.S. Treasury and Commerce Departments are allowed to license individual
sales of medicines and medical supplies, supposedly for humanitarian reasons to make up for the
embargo s impact on health care delivery. According to the U.S. corporate executives, the
licensing provisions are so tough as to have had the opposite effect. With this statement, it is
assumed that there are fewer licenses given out for humanitarian reason therefore favoring the
embargo and aiding in the downfall of health in Cuba. Since 1992, the embargo has prohibited
ships from loading or unloading cargo in U.S. ports for 180 days after

Thomas Paine s The Age Of Reason
In this contemporary era more people do not identify with God and in turn have become more
skeptical of God. This shift can be seen in Thomas Paine s The Age of Reason; which is an
excellent example of deism. Paine spares no detail on why he does not believe in the Bible and why
he does not believe Godis continually working in the world. Jonathan Edwards sermon, A Divine
and Supernatural Light, on the other hand, adamantly believes in the Bible and that God is actively
present in the world. Edwards s provides an excellent example of Christianity. These two authors
create a snapshot of the prevailing, in Edwards s case, and emerging, in Paine s case, worldviews
of their respective era. Thomas Paine s The Age of Reason cites contextual reasons for not
believing the Bible; while Jonathan Edwards sermon, A Divine and Supernatural Light, gives
divine reasons for believing the Bible. Thomas Paine s The Age of Reason, he takes issue with
what the Bible calls revelations (aka special revelations). He gives revelations the definition of,
when pertaining to religion, as the something communicated immediately from God to man (510) .
Thus, when a revelationis given from God to man and is then passed on from one person to the
next. Paine considers this not to be a true revelation, because he believes a revelation only to that
person and to no other. If said revelation were to be applied to others, it would, according to Paine,
be hearsay. Because of this Paine believes that the

  • 2. Gilgamesh And The Epic Of Gilgamesh The maturation of Gilgamesh and his desire to acquire wisdom throughout his journey is quite apparent. By overcoming difficulties such as upholding Uruk, becoming friends with Enkidu, and various other scenarios, Gilgamesh proves that he did in fact grow up throughout the epic. As the epic starts, Gilgamesh is portrayed as a self centered, self admiring leader who believes that he is the only individual that can lead the city of Uruk. Gilgamesh believes that he is a god like figure and often refers to himself as one. He believes that he is above everyone else in the city of Uruk. For example, in the epic there is a scene where Gilgamesh enters the city of Uruk, the epic describes the scene as; He entered the city of Uruk the Town Square, and a crowd gathered around. He came to a halt in the street of Uruk the Town Square, all gathered about, the people discussed him (15). This quote is a good example of how Gilgamesh expected those around him to respect and look up to him as a god like figure. He did not lead the city of Uruk humbly; he wasn t a leader who strived to feel like a normal citizen of the city. Instead, Gilgamesh felt that he was entitled to more privileges than the average person. Early on in the epic, Gilgamesh is described as a tall, magnificent and terrible, who opened passes in the mountains, who dug wells on the slopes of the uplands, and crosses the ocean, the wide sea to the sunrise (2). This demonstrates how selfish Gilgamesh truly was, and how all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The positive association between SSB consumption and cases of increased weights and risks for diabetes has certainly drawn public attention. They either have a spherical or an irregular shape and have important roles in the immune response. There are two basic types of leukocytes, granulocytes which have a granular cytoplasm and a lobed nuclei and agranulocytes which have a cytoplasm that has no granules making it appear smooth and they have a rounded or horseshoe shaped nucleus. Granulocytes can be subdivided into neutrophils, eosinophils, and basophils and agranulocytes can be subdivided into monocytes and lymphocytes (Bethesda, 2005). Neutrophils are polymorphonuclear cells, meaning they have a nucleus which is complex and lobulated. They have three types of granules in their cytoplasm, gelatinase granules, azurophilic granules and specific granules. Some of the accounting tools used includes the valuation of firms assets, valuation of a firm s profit and loss and also the valuation of a firm s obligations, which are liabilities. Just like accounting, firm valuation process follows defined steps so as to arrive at the correct value of the firm that is free from errors. Some of the gathered data such as the firm s historical financial statements are adjusted so as to prepare the inputs required for the firm s valuation methods and hence it leads us to the second step. The main financial statements required for the firm s valuation are the income statement and the balance sheet that are produced by the accounting process. This further shows the relationship between firm valuation and accounting. The best way to value a firm with a historical approach would be looking at the historical statements, income statement and balance sheet. Smaller firms should be looked at the last three to five years while larger firms should have a longer period to check. • 8. Impact Of The Romani Communities And Mainstream Slovak... The continued disparity between the Romani communities and mainstream Slovak society has been further highlighted recently by their children now being forced to attend ethnically segregated mainstream schools and classes. The continued investment in so called container schools can drastically hinder the Romani children s ability to advance to a higher education. It can also become a hurdle preventing this community to gain sufficient employment to survive and therefore be a full contributor to the country they call home. By looking at the Republic of Slovakiaunder the following headings; political, military, economic, social, infrastructure, information, physical environment and time (PMESII PT), gaps can be seen that continue to allow for human rights issues like that with the Roma today to be in the forefront. TIME The history of the Slovak nation began in the eleventh century when it was ruled by Hungary. The Slovaks ancestors were identified as inhabitants of Upper Hungary (more simply known as The Highlands ). By the nineteenth century, despite the drive by the Hungarian rulers to Magyarize the multiethnic population of their kingdom, the Slovaks had created a mythologized identity, linking themselves with the ninth century Slavic kingdom of Great Moravia. What do these words have in common? They don t describe gay adoption. The common misconceptualization that gay people get to choose their sexuality is false, so why should parents who were born with a different sexuality be scorned for wanting to adopt? Most people agree with the statement that children deserve to live in a home with a loving family rather than be stuck in an orphanage until they re old enough to live alone. Harm inflicted on gay people is sometimes caused when people try to force people to fit gender roles.Violence can be influenced when people are around peers, causing these acts to usually occur in front of or with friends who are also homophobic. These unruly behaviors stem from people who want to have close relationships mixing with an over exaggerated sense of masculinity. One attacker stated that they feel as though LGBT people should be ashamed of being different, and another abuser targeted gay people for not conforming to his idea of masculinity (Franklin). There are many common myths about gay adoption. One popular argument is that having two parents of the same gender means that role models aren t being fit correctly. What people don t consider is that these role models aren t being fit when kids are forced to live in orphanages due to laws preventing gay people from adopting them. Parents aren t the only role models for kids. Uncles, aunts, teachers, and other adults in the lives of children can all be excellent role models. It is better to reign in Hell, than to serve in heaven John Milton. In Apocalypse Now , Colonel Kurtz chooses to reign in hell (the jungle). I believe that the feature of man s breaking point and temptation of man to play God is historically accurate but also allows America to offload some of the blame onto members of the army who rebelled against American leadership. During Apocalypse Now , Francis Ford Coppola uses plenty of imagery to get across to the viewer the confusion and horror of war. The first example of this is when we hear the voice recording of Kurtz in the jungle. He talks about his nightmare where he sees a snail crawling along the edge of a straight razor . This snail represents Colonel Kurtz as, in his insanity, he is confused between good and evil and the temptation to play God. Kurtz does end up playing God. He calls him Vietnamese followers his children and they also worship him like a God. Analysis Of The Article The Pelican Brief The Wetlands In Grisham s novel, The Pelican Brief, he presents a case where an organization attempts to protect the coastal marshes of Louisiana against the selfish oil companies and citizens that wish to destroy it for money. This is a tremendous concern that people deal with in America. John Grisham wrote The Pelican Brief, in 1992 and it was one of his best selling books. Louisiana s marshes are being destroyed and are suffering greatly because of humans. Grisham shows extensive knowledge of the wetlands as well as the wildlife through discussing the endangered Brown Pelican and how humans have brought it to the brink of extinction. Numberless amounts of waterfowl, birds, and countless species that call Louisiana home are now being terrorized thanks to non native species, humans and a numerous amount of different causes. How The CIA Killed The Bay Of Pigs Invasion Investigation After ousting U.S. supported Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1959, Fidel Castro came to power and began to nationalize American assets in retaliation to a trade embargo. The CIA and the Eisenhower administration began to formulate a plan to remove Castro from power. While Eisenhower had started the process for the Bay of Pigs invasion, it would take place 3 months after Kennedy was sworn into office. Inspired by an U.S. led revolution in Guatemala in 1954, the CIA and the White House sought to create a revolution in Cuba without any ties to U.S. interference. Lyman B. The character of Fortinbras was the only one to accomplish his goal and become king of Denmark in the end. Shakespeare s comment through Fortinbras as a man of action, allowed the audience to see that he acts rather than thinks. Hamlet is portrayed as weak and indecisive. The first evidence can be seen in the posters of Big Brother that are posted everywhere around London. These posters are described as having the face of a man of about forty five, with a heavy black mustache and ruggedly handsome features . Consequently, both Stalin and Big Brother developed a cult of personality . According to Natural History Museum (2015), modern humans have been around for nearly 200,000 years, and in our journey to the present, humans have learnt many ways to survive. From hygiene to hyperplasia, people have come to know the best way possible to survive in the living conditions they lived. To help protect themselves from sun, wind, rain, snow and even enemies, one of the methods used is what today is called vernacular architecture. The practice of designing and constructing a building today may seem easy with modern technology at our finger tips, however 500 years, one can imagine the difficulties, trial and errors the inhabitants of different geographical locations had to go through just to provide suitable shelter for themselves. These trail and errors throughout the history have benefited many civilizations and bring forward bundles of knowledge. For this reason, the objective of this research report is to explore vernacular architecture and to expand on the passive engineering techniques used in times when technology was not so readily available as we have today. Also, an analysis of the different lessons learnt from these techniques will help determine the contribution it has made to sustainable architecture and awareness. Vernacular Architecture What is it? Key Stakeholders With any business there are always stakeholders. These people are influenced by businesses. However, they also have the ability to influence businesses. Consequently, the relationship between businesses and stakeholders is a two way street. According to Ferrell, Ferrell, and Fraedrich (2010), In a business context, customers, investors and shareholders, employees, suppliers, government agencies, communities, and many others who have a stake or claim in some aspect of a company s product, operations, markets, industry, and outcome are known as stakeholders (p. 30). Although most corporations have emphasized shareholders as the most important stakeholder group, the failure to consider all significant stakeholders can lead to ethical lapses. Stakeholders are likely to shift their prospective of a company after unethical actions have been exposed to the public. The key stakeholders in this situation are the Wal Mart associates, taxpayers, and shareholders. The stakeholder model of corporate social responsibility considers obligations firms may face as moral agents to employees, customers and other stakeholders. Most employees rely on their employer to provide some type of health care benefits because most cannot afford health ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. French and American Criminal Justice Systems Essay French and American Criminal Justice Systems There many different criminal justice systems in the world today. Some that consists of many of the same policies and some that are considerably different. In the case of France and the U.S. there are a lot of similarities, but I will be focusing on the differences between each of their systems. The aspects that I will be comparing are police, courts, the legal profession, legal education , criminal procedural law, corrections, and juvenile justice and the advantages and disadvantages of each. The policing system in France is a lot different than the one in the U.S. In France there is one big centralized police system run by the government. Unlike the fragmented police model, which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In France they have the Constitutional council which has nine members serving a nine year term, they are responsible for election complaints and the legislation made in parliament. The advantage of this is that it reduces the conflict of jurisdictions. But the disadvantage is that our Supreme Court has a longer term than the Constitutional Council which allows more constant laws and fewer laws that will contradict each other. The aspect of legal profession and legal education is also extremely different. To become a judge in France you must first obtain a law degree from a university law school. Next you must gain admission to the National School for the Judiciary at Bordeaux (Terrill 236). After completing this school, the candidate is now qualified to become a judge. The French system allows judges to begin their profession at an early age which could be a disadvantage because of lack of experience in the system, where judges in the United States are usually older and more knowledgeable. The legal education is noticeably different from America. In France, students enter a university when they are approximately 18 years old, after they have completed their high school education with an award of the baccalaureate diploma (Terrill 242). In America you must go through undergraduate and graduate law school, and then pass the bar in order to get your law degree. It s an advantage because students in France start their career a ... It was getting late, the wind was howling, and the storm clouds he heard about could be seen in the distance. He held tightly onto his luggage as he walked down a deserted road. There was only one other person than him on the road and he was heading for his home. Hey, can you please help me, I need to find a place for the night, Christopher asked as h caught up to him, and it started to drizzle. Ah, why not try the Bell and Dragon, it was newly built not to long ago, it s just down the road, or if you don t want to be in the rain for much longer, you can try one of the Bed and... No, it s Mulholland, and thank you, the room is lovely, Christopher said as he walked in and studied the room. He set his luggage down and started unpacking. When your done, please come down and sign the book Mr. Mulholland, the landlady said as she left the room. A few minutes later, Christopher made it back down to the lobby. He started thinking that she was a bit dotty as he reached the book. He opened it up and signed it, noticing he was the first one to write a name down. Suddenly, a colorful parrot flew down the stairs and landed in a birdcage. The parrot startled Christopher so much, he almost fell backwards. Hello, Hello, the parrot squawked at Christopher. Hello little parrot, he whispered with a smile. So I see you met my little parrot, Ginger, the landlady said as she came into the room with a silver tea tray. She came over and sat the tray down onto the table. Oh, I have a question, Christopher said as he turned around and saw her already pouring out some tea. Why is my name the only name in the book? • 45. The Importance Of Prisons In The Prison System Summary The United States currently holds around 2 million prisoners, or around 25% of the world s prison population (Prisonstudies.org). Furthermore, a large percentage of American prisoners are from minority groups, and many others are charged for petty crimes such as non violent drug offenses. People convicted of low level crimes experience the same kind of treatment as what a violent convict would reasonably receive. These convicts tend to be deprived from basic rights, get into gang fights on a daily basis and are emotionally deprived. Across the world, different countries treat their prisoners differently. There are some countries, like Brazil, that completely deprive prisoner s rights. On the other hand, prisoners in Norway are given VIP treatment to be able to integrate themselves to society once again. It is unfortunate that these extreme differences exist across the globe. Unlike Brazil and Norway, America has average if not, below average treatment in prisons. The correctional prison system spends a great deal of money on its system; it is greater than the school budget (Kelly). Why is the US government investing more in its prisons rather than in its educational facilities? In addition, the most notorious prisons stuff as many prisoners into the tiny cells. The conditions are merely inhumane, and the government keeps funding these correctional institutions. From our research, we have learned that American prisoners deserve better resources for them to become ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The World s Largest Gas Company For Gas For over 40 years, Europe has been relying on Russia for the importation of energy, such as oil.5 One of Russia s major gas company, Gazprom, is one of the world s largest gas distributing companies, causing many countries to become dependent on the Russian company for gas. In 2015 alone, Gazprom exported around 158 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe, and of those European countries to have received gas, Germany was the highest, with an import of 45.31 billion cubic meters of Gazprom gas. Countries in the Baltic region and countries in south eastern Europe are usually very dependent on Russian gas. The European Unionis Russia s most involved trading partner, especially when it comes in terms of oil. About 41% of Russia s exports are sent to EU countries.7 According to Gazprom s statistics, Western European countries make up 82% of Gazprom s exports, and Central European countries make up 18% of their exports.3 These numbers are significant because it displays Europe s major dependence on Russian oil, which is a major problem, because of Russia s ability to deprive Europe of energy at any given time, as shown from 2006 to 2009, when Russia cut off Ukraine s gas line due to disputes regarding gas prices.23 If Russia decides to shut off gas to a region, it can lead to people being without ways to heat their homes or cook their food, leaving a big liability on the people. Europe s vulnerability to these gas shortages gives Russian leverage over many EU countries who heavily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Cuba And Embargo Essay example Cuba and the Affects of the Embargo The island nation of Cuba, located just ninety miles off the coast of Florida, is home to 11 million people and has one of the few remaining communist regimes in the world. Cuba s leader, Fidel Castro, came to power in 1959 and immediately instituted a communist program of sweeping economic and social changes. Castroallied his government with the Soviet Union and seized and nationalized billions of dollars of American property. U.S. relationswith Cuba have been strained ever since. A trade embargo against Cuba that was imposed in 1960 is still in place today. Despite severe economic suffering and increasing isolation from the world community, Castro remains committed to communism. (Close Up... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Supporters of the legislation believe that prohibiting foreign investment will quicken Castro s downfall. (Close Up Foundation) Many debate on the issue of why the U.S. should or shouldn t keep the ebargo against Cuba. These debates deal with the effects of the Embargo on Cuba s economy, humanitarian rights and health of the people of Cuba. The embargo today places a ban on subsidiary trade, Licensing, shipping and humanitarian aid. (Close Up Foundation) In 1992, the Cuban Democracy act imposed a ban on subsidiary trade with Cuba. This ban restricted Cuba s ability to import medicines and medical supplies from third country sources. There have also been corporate buy outs and mergers between U.S. and European pharmaceutical companies thus adding to the number of companies permitted to do business with Cuba. Under the Cuban Democracy Act, The U.S. Treasury and Commerce Departments are allowed to license individual sales of medicines and medical supplies, supposedly for humanitarian reasons to make up for the embargo s impact on health care delivery. According to the U.S. corporate executives, the licensing provisions are so tough as to have had the opposite effect. With this statement, it is assumed that there are fewer licenses given out for humanitarian reason therefore favoring the embargo and aiding in the downfall of health in Cuba. Since 1992, the embargo has prohibited ships from loading or unloading cargo in U.S. ports for 180 days after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Thomas Paine s The Age Of Reason In this contemporary era more people do not identify with God and in turn have become more skeptical of God. This shift can be seen in Thomas Paine s The Age of Reason; which is an excellent example of deism. Paine spares no detail on why he does not believe in the Bible and why he does not believe Godis continually working in the world. Jonathan Edwards sermon, A Divine and Supernatural Light, on the other hand, adamantly believes in the Bible and that God is actively present in the world. Edwards s provides an excellent example of Christianity. These two authors create a snapshot of the prevailing, in Edwards s case, and emerging, in Paine s case, worldviews of their respective era. Thomas Paine s The Age of Reason cites contextual reasons for not believing the Bible; while Jonathan Edwards sermon, A Divine and Supernatural Light, gives divine reasons for believing the Bible. Thomas Paine s The Age of Reason, he takes issue with what the Bible calls revelations (aka special revelations). He gives revelations the definition of, when pertaining to religion, as the something communicated immediately from God to man (510) . Thus, when a revelationis given from God to man and is then passed on from one person to the next. Paine considers this not to be a true revelation, because he believes a revelation only to that person and to no other. If said revelation were to be applied to others, it would, according to Paine, be hearsay. Because of this Paine believes that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
