PACS stands for Picture Archiving and Communication System. It is an application of modern information technology to radiology that serves as the file room, reading room, and courier of images and reports. PACS provides simultaneous image access to multiple users through a network. AIIMS uses two types of PACS systems - Oviyam, which is an open source and free PACS, and GE PACS. PACS allows for less time consumption in diagnosis and treatment by providing easy and simultaneous access to images and reports for multiple users.
