Nabokov: Providing a Flood and Lifeboat
In Nabokov s 1948 Good Readers and Good Writers, the reader has the opportunity to view the
possibilities of a beautiful collision of a major reader and a major writer. This piece discusses reading
and writing: skills that have become standardized and slightly devalued as education has advanced.
Literacy has become so expected that little thought is put into what defines a good reader or writer;
Nabokov tackles this idea head on. Nabokov s intention of this piece is to passionately display a
relationship that is formed between a good reader and a good writer, and the essential need for an open
mind. He stresses the vitality of understanding instead of immediately identifying when reading; ...

Instead Nabokov states: study that new world as closely as possible, approaching it as something
brand new, having no obvious connection with the worlds we already know (1). When approached in
such a manner a major reader can see the new world in its entirety and once it has been explored and
understood then there is room to compare its connections to other worlds and knowledge.
Nabokov uses bold and unafraid language to emphasize his thoughts and chooses to speak only to
those who choose to listen. The lesson he teaches requires the audience to look past personal
comparison and preference. The audience must gain understand and appreciate first; then let Nabokov
s ideas apply to the world of reading and writing they themselves know it. Nabokov displays this
message by refusing to dull any of his thoughts: for example phrases like, Can anybody be so naive as
to think he or she can learn anything about the past from those... historical novels? (1). He still has a
definite message but in a lot of sentences and phrases they have a condescending punch to them.
Nabokov uses superlatives such as: the best temperament for a reader to have... (3). As well as
opinionated statements such as: nothing is more boring or more unfair... (1). Statements like these can
prevent his audience to open their minds because his language is emotionally provoking. Nabokov
purposely tests his audience by using powerful provoking language

Rheumatoid Arthritis Research Paper
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, systemic autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation of
connective tissue in the diarthrodial (synovial) joints, typically with periods of remission and
exacerbation (Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper, Bucher, Camera, 2011). The etiology of rheumatoid
arthritis is unknown. Autoimmunity and genetic factors are believed to be important in the
development of RA. Genetic predisposition appears to be important in the development of RA (Lewis
et al., 2011). The strongest evidence for a familial influence is the increased occurrence of a human
leukocyte antigen (HLA) (Lewis et al., 2011). Smoking can increase the risk of RA for a person who
has a genetic predisposition. Autoimmunity theory suggests that changes ... Show more content on

Analysis Of Shakespeare s Hamlet
To Be, Either/Or Not To Be Do it or do not do it you will regret both (Kierkegaard 72) is a quote that
echoes and expounds upon the famous To be, or not to be (Hamlet 3.1.56). The former quote was
written by none other than Danish philosopher and poet, Søren Kierkegaard. Born in 1813, Søren
Kierkegaard was well acquainted with Shakespeare s text and often referred to it in his writings. When
watching Kenneth Branagh s unique, unabridged adaptation of Hamlet, it is apparent that Kenneth
Branagh was able to capture how similar his Hamlet and Søren are in character while making his mark
in cinematography history. The connection between Branagh, Shakespeare, and Kierkegaard goes
beyond the setting and 19th century architecture of Branagh s recreation of Hamlet. Through both
Søren and Kenneth s backstory, choice of esthetics, and their actions in life changing moments the
story of Hamlet has proven to be a guide for both of these extraordinary men. The story of Hamlet: a
Danish prince s beloved father dies and within two months, his mother marries his uncle, which is
considered incestuous and horrendous. While the rest of the courts celebrates, as Kenneth Branagh
chooses to emphasis by having white flower petals rain down from the ceiling like confetti, the
grieving Hamlet has no say in it. It is not nor it cannot come to good: But break, my heart; for I must
hold my tongue (Hamlet 1.2.158 9). In Kierkeggard s review of Shakespeare Hamlet, he notes that

say that they need to find the former king s killer, so
Oedipus asked to see Tiresias for evidence on the killer. Oedipus accuses Tiresias and Creon of treason
then, Jocasta comes and says how Lauis died and Oedipus feels responsible for his death. Shepard
says that it was a group that killed Lauis so it wasn t Oedipus, but Oedipus turns out to be married to
his mother. Jocasta hanged herself so Oedipus then left Thebes. Throughout the play the theme
blindness and sight shows up. Oedipus is blind to the truth until the end of the play.

A Study of Iron Essay
Iron is an important element to the scientific community, especially those involved in the branch of
chemistry. Consequently, humans rely on iron for many different things. Iron is diverse from all other
elements with regards to its natural occurrence, historic and contemporary uses, the origin of its name,
and when, how, where, and by whom it was discovered. It also has unique characteristic physical and
chemical properties. Without the discovery, and distinctive properties of iron, life on Earth would
never be the same as it is now. Iron occurs naturally throughout the universe in abundance. It is found
in places such as stars, including the sun, and is distinguishable in soil and dissolved in groundwater

Iron began being widely used across Central Europe during the 8th century, and across Northern
Europe during the 6th century, and the Near Eastern Iron Age took place in two phases during the 12th
and 13th century. Asia began using iron at the same time as Europe, and China used iron long before
the Common Era. In North and South America, the development of iron began right after the rock age,
skipping the Bronze Age. During the early Iron Age, iron was used to make tools when combined with
0.3% to 1.2% by weight of carbon to form the alloy steel. Iron was used to make houses, tools such as
swords, daggers, chisels, and knives, and jewellery, among others. Iron can be used for a wide range
of resources in the contemporary world. It is the most abundant, least expensive, and most used of all
metals. It is vital to human and animal life, and humans use it in a variety of devices to make life
convenient. It is combined with other elements to make steel or other compounds for many
commercial uses, the most common of which include making fuels, lubricants, automobiles, machine
tools, hulls of large ships, building parts, machine parts, cooking pots and pans, cutlery, surgical
equipment, and aircraft. Iron (III) is used in the treatment of sewage, as a dye for cloth, as a coloring
agent for paint, an additive in animal feed, and in the manufacture of printed

Family, Friends, And Photography Essay
Family, Friends, and Photography
What is culture? According to one popular dictionary, Culture is the customary beliefs, social forms,
and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group (Merriam Webster Dictionary). To most people
that is the first thing that comes to their mind. Culture is not about things that define us or things that
we believe, it is about things that are important to us. Mahatma Gandhi says, No culture can live if it
attempts to be exclusive. (Buzz Quotes). I agree with Gandhi because culture should be shared no
matter what it is. Culture is about sharing the way we see things, like family, friends, or anything that
is important to us. Culture should be shared. To me culture is about showing people how important
family, friends, and photography are to me.
One of the most important aspects of my culture as my triptych shows is my family. My family have
made me who I am today. They have been there for me and have taught me so many lessons. They
have been there whenever I am down or whenever something exciting happens to me. I have two
brothers, one is fourteen and the other one is six. They are both amazing brothers. My younger brother
is so silly and just makes us laugh even when we want to cry. My fourteen year old brother is a very
cheerful, caring, and loving person. He has a disability that prevents him from doing a lot of things.

Voting Behavior Essay
Less than 50% of eligible voters will turn out to vote at national elections, and at the local elections
there are less than 25%. There is a correlation between voting behavior and the demographic of those
voting.
Typically, people ages 30 to 65 have been the most likely to vote in the past years. This is in great
cause due to this age group being the most politically active. People in this group are more likely to
have established homes, steady jobs, and part of the community. They have stronger incentives to be
involved in what can affect their lives.
Younger people ages 18 24 have been less likely to vote in the past due to lack of interest, money, or

Women have exceeded the turnout rate of men in presidential elections since 1986. They believe that
this is due to the prominence of issues important to women, such as abortion, education, and child
welfare.
When it comes to race we have come a long way for voting rights. Since the voting barriers have been
eliminated the African American citizens vote at least as often as white citizens with the same
economic status. African Americans are more involved in politics than other minorities in the US and
have the highest level of voter registration and participation. The Latinos only average about 49% of
eligible voters to vote. One of the big problems for them is the language barrier, but with the Latino
population increasing there is a rise of Spanish campaigning being done alongside the English.
Religion is a big motivator for whether or not people are voting. When there are big issues on trial that
go against your beliefs there is a greater desire for you to voice your opinions and be heard. Voters that
identify with Christian rights have a higher turnout rate and vote more frequently since there is almost
always a religious issue up for

The Health Savings Accounts By Linda J. Blumberg
The health savings accounts were created in 2003, and the main purpose was to cover out of pocket
medical expenses during the year and to obtain wellness and greater quality of care. To open health
saving account, the person should buy an inexpensive health insurance plan which usually has a high
deductible. Therefore, the Health saving account provides the opportunity to cover out of pocket costs.
The American Benefits Council, from Statement before the Subcommittee on Health of the House
Committee on Ways and Means believes that health savings accounts are working successfully and

Most recent data shows that people benefit from health saving accounts and that they have sufficient
amount on the account to cover out of pocket expenses. Furthermore, data indicates that health saving
accounts are not being used as tax shelters by people with high income. It reveals that majority of
individuals who has an account has incomes below $60,000. The most important that the same survey
establishes that 41% of health saving accounts purchasers did not have medical insurance in the past
six months period. Many people point out that money on those accounts may be used for many
reasons. However, the early data showed that customers of the accounts are using their HSAs as
proposed mostly to cover qualified medical costs. The council has confidence in those imposing third
party substantiation requirements on HSAs will increase expenses and limit Americans opportunities
for health care coverage. These additional costs will limit the attractiveness and efficacy of health
savings accounts. Linda J. Blumberg has a diverse opinion about health savings accounts. She
demonstrates that those accounts could be beneficial only for high income customers. She states that
The GAO analysis found that the average adjusted gross income of HAS participants was about
$139,000 in 2005, compared with $57,000 for all other

Comic Books Are Important For The World
Comic books are important to the world for the fact that they represent a portion of the population that
like to fantasize that they can escape the hardships of everyday life. In comic books people can be a
hero, a villain, or a bystander that learns an important lesson from observing the two (Bendis 2).
Grant Morrison discusses his views on the difference of the ages and their views on comics:
Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of
everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can
possibly run a multibillion dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the
answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The busy lifestyle, the children s needs, all those requirements play a role in time constraints. Comic
books offer a solution to the everyday, active person (Bendis 1). The reader is usually short on time so
he or she must be intrigued immediately for the comic to gain full attention. As soon as the reader
commits himself or herself, the situation changes. He or she is thrown into an unknown situation that
demands total attention (1). The plot is pulled together and the hero is cast in circumstances that
demand a resolve. A confrontation follows and against seemingly impossible odds, the hero finds an
answer within an unlikely source that the reader would believe they could also find if put in the same
situation. Once the comic book is finished being read, the readers recognize that very little time has
gone by and they can continue on with their normal lives.
The understanding of the comic book doesn t end there. The reader now has time to think on what
they just read, what could have been done, what should have been done and other possible outcomes
to the plot. This can be done while daydreaming at school or bored to death at work. The importance
of contemplating the different endings of a comic book is the fact that it makes the reader truly think (
Bendis 2). The reader must have a sort of interactive imagination that allows them to comprehend to
underlying lesson within every comic.
Comic books are almost a necessity in life because people

Skin Breakdown Paper
Background For my practice I was fortunate to be able to work at the Bethany in Cochrane. This
facility was well kept and has much of the equipment to properly and holistically care for their
residents. While in practice, I was able to help with a variety of tasks, including morning care and bed
making. An essential element of morning care was a skin assessment, typically to look for bruises, dry
spots, and most importantly, ulcers. Ulcers are painful and can decrease quality of life (Ricci, 2013).
Skin breakdown is typically caused by moisture, skin pH, microorganisms, and friction (Flynn, 2011).
The use of stretchy polyester cotton blend sheets at the facility led to the inquiry of skin integrity and
the influence of fabrics on aging skin. I began to wonder if fabric breathability make that much of a
difference, which lead me to the question of fabrics and facts. Does the use of polyester sheets, cotton
sheets, or cotton polyester blend sheets decrease the risk of skin breakdown in long term ... Show

For this study researchers assessed 32 different fabrics made of polyester, cotton, viscose fibers,
polypropylene, and a blend of the fabrics to determine the thermal conductivity, the wicking ability,
the breathability of the fabric, and the fabrics ability to absorb water (Basal Ilgaz, 2009). In order to
collect accurate data researchers used an Alambeta thermos tester, a specialized machine to measure
heat and moisture. In this study, polyester and cotton alone caused higher thermal resistance than a
cotton polyester blend (Basal Ilgaz, 2009). A strait cotton or polyester blend was found to be better at
wicking away moisture, which is one of the main causes of skin breakdown (Basal Ilgaz, 2009). In the
conclusion of the study the researchers determined that channeled polyester was the best choice for
bedsheets due to combined factors (Basal Ilgaz,

Effects Of Enslavement On African Americans
The enslavement of Africans in the Americas was such a gruesome time in history that we often
generalize it into one event not being careful to look closely at the effects it had on the African people:
During the course of those 400 years slavery as we knew it single handily shaped the early African
American. Starting with the export of the first wave of African Slaves the impact of this would
profoundly affect descendants hundreds of years later. Europeans who decided to enslave African
people thought only of what monetary value they would be as they were their property who didn t
deserve the decency of being anything more. The enslavement destroyed life as they knew it in their

Back in Africa many of the slaves belonged to religions other than Christianity. Religions such as
Islam. They were polytheistic. The few Africans on the continent of Africa that were Christians was
due to the fact that Christian missionaries had gone there teaching the good news. Like their overall
identity when the Africans stepped off the boat their religion was taken away from them as well. The
Europeans looked at their religion as barbaric, unstructured and abstract due to the fact that they
worshipped many gods. Many of the Africans were forced into Christianity because it was their master
s religion. They converted them simply as a control mechanism as they didn t care about their
conversion and more so to denigrate them. So not only did they adopt his name but also his God.
Many are confused as to why the African was so easily persuaded into serving a God that had allowed
their enslavement. The Africans took Christianity and made it their own. They often times mixed
Christianity in with their native religion. In addition to that they took stories from the bible like Jesus
death and suffering and the Jews that were in bondage and related it to their life. They believed that
because Jesus suffered for them they too were suffering only to reach the Promised Land. An eternal
life that many slaves looked forward too as their only

Those who have studied history, both in school or professionally, will know that history is just a
transcript of time. In every second, of every minute, of every hour, of every day, change occurs. All
turning points in history, such as the fall of Rome, or the Industrial Revolution, or the Columbian
Exchange, are just periods of time where change was taking place at a quick tempo. The 1920s are
also a turning point in the history of America; in that decade, the United States emerges victorious
from the brutality of World War I, the nineteenth amendment that allows women to vote is ratified,
and social norms are challenged. Those that could adapt to the changing times would flourish in post

The aversion the citizens have for Drummond is overturned, however, when Drummond exposes
Brady s reluctance to compromise and embrace advancement. Brady claims that the Bible should be
analyzed literally, so, to counter him, Drummond brings up several examples from the Bible that are
not scientifically possible, and rather than accepting that some of his viewpoints may have been
outdated by science, Brady resolutely forges forth with his interpretation of the Bible. His focus on
following his disproven ideals against logic ruins his credibility and, as a result, he is somewhat
shunned. The play s stage directions after Brady becomes discredited state, DRUMMOND moves out

The inhabitants of Hillsboro start to side more with Drummond because he shows that he is open to
differing viewpoints and change. (Drummond isn t completely against the Bible, he states, The Bible
is a book. A good book. But it s not the only book (Lawrence and Lee 98).) Eventually, the jury also

to accept any new theories. They determined that Cates was guilty because he does teach evolution,

Why Uranium Is Removed From The Oceans By Diffusion Across...
Uranium is removed from the oceans by diffusion across the sediment water interface of organic rich
sediments, and this pathway is the largest single sink in the global budget of this element (Anderson et
al., 1989; Barnes and Cochran, 1990; Thomson et al., 1990; Lyons et al., 2002; Calvert et al., 2015).
Klinkhammer and Palmer (1991) remark that the dissolved uranium is drawn into suboxic sediments
along a concentration gradient established by the precipitation of an insoluble phase which forms
when U6+ is reduced to U4+. They also mention that this transformation occurs relatively late in the
diagenetic sequence, after the microbially mediated dissolution of manganese and iron oxides, and
may be induced by the onset of sulfate reduction. Metallo organics play an important role in the
diagenetic behavior of this element as some uranium is released into solution when labile organics are
consumed at the sediment water interface (Thomson et al., 1990).
In contrast, the diagenesis of authigenic Fe and Mn oxides exerts negligible influence on the uranium
diagenetic cycle (Barnes and Cochran, 1989). Barnes and Cochran (1989) state that the variations in
the uranium concentration of sediment with time are controlled directly by the uranium content of the
source material settling from the water column, and indirectly, by the organic content of this material
and the sedimentation rate. Klinkhammer and Palmer (1991) propose that since diffusion from
seawater influences dramatically

Compare And Contrast The Turn Of The Screw And Death By...
Although The Turn of the Screw (1898) by Henry James is a century older than Margaret Atwood s
Death by Landscape (1990), it is not impossible to connect the stories to each other. The stories
contents are different The Turn of the Screw is a Gothic ghost story, whereas Death by Landscape is a
more psychological story of a woman who tries to deal with a childhood trauma, namely the death of
her friend , but there are some aspects in which the stories are similar. Both texts have an open ending,
which is particularly interesting in terms of building up the unresolved suspense of the story. The
suspense created in the narration is not only achieved by the open ending, but also by literary
techniques and the ambiguous readings of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Turn of the Screw can be read as a real ghost story: in this case, the ghosts are real and the story
really is about good and evil. This does not particularly mean that the governess is mentally stable,
because she still has her issues (like the fact that she falls in love easily), but it would explain her
protecting behavior towards the children. In this reading, Miles s death is interpreted as a consequence
of the governess s failure of protecting the children: she was unable to shield him from Peter Quint s
evil. In the psychological reading, the governess is mentally unstable and hallucinates the appearance
of the ghosts. In fact, this seems to be a plausible reading of the story, taking all the arguments of the
governess s unreliability in account. That way, the hallucinations are a consequence of her isolation
and sexual frustration. Miles s death is then interpreted as the governess (accidentally?) choking the
boy to death. Death by Landscape can be interpreted in the same ways: the one in which the narrator is
reliable and Lois innocent, or the one in which the narrator is unreliable and Lois killed Lucy. The
story does contain some arguments that Lois killed Lucy: the gap at the moment of Lucy s
disappearance, Lois being jealous of

Married With A Family Vs Single Life
Married with a family Vs Single life. Marriage is a beautiful aspect in a persons life. When a person is
single they tend to live a life that is a different kind of lifestyle. Marriage is when one person scarifies
their needs to help fulfill the other person s needs that they love and care for. While being single, that
person only cares about themselves and fulfill s their own needs with what makes them happy. The
contrasts between being married with a family and being single are freedom, communication, and
financial issues. To begin with, being married with a family comes with responsibilities such as having
less freedom. By having less freedom the wife or husband takes care of the kids which takes a lot of
the time. Also having jobs can take up the freedom of a marriage couple. When a person is single they
have all the freedom they want. Being single they can do whatever they desire such as going out,
having the time of their life. Also, they are not tied down to another person. In some situations if a
married couple doesn t have kids that can mean here freedom consist of spending time with there
spouse which take up the other spouse or both of there time and freedom. With being single they don t
have the responsibility for no one but themselves. Also with being single has the advantage of the
person who doesn t have to worry about pleasing there freedom for there spouse. In addition, being

A Dishonest Appeal
A dishonest appeal to emotion is when an author s verbiage triggers and engages the reader s
emotions. These emotions can be good or bad, happy or sad, and everything in between. This leads the
reader astray into believing wrongly or more strongly. An example of this is when an author uses the
word rights as opposed to privileges. Writing with an appeal to emotion is not inherently immoral. It is
often used as a mechanism to aid the reader s imagination in transforming words into a vivid thought.
It becomes dishonest when the author distorts the facts and truth to try to persuade the reader. The
change in words may seem trivial but it is purposeful. This is often seen in the beginning of a court
case when the judge is about to decide

Is Macbeth Relevant Today
Society defines a hero as a valiant figure whom many admire due to their relatable, yet seemingly just
actions. William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Macbeth, tells the story of Macbeth, a lord who
showed his bravery in battle and whom many look up to as a role model. However, it is through his
ambition and need for power that his morals are put into question, and result in his downfall. Although
tragic, Macbeths rise and fall is similar to many influential people of modern society. One notable
example is actor and comedian Bill Cosby. A man many grew up with, and felt was not only a father
on screen, but in the hearts of many. Recently, Cosby has become the face of yet another scandal. By
his actions becoming public, Cosby is now seeing his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Macbeth, Macbeth s need for power is reflected by his
actions when he realizes King Duncan stands in his way of the throne. It is then, that Macbeth sets

intensions at first, though ultimately the bell invites [him]... for it is a knell that summons [Duncan] to
heaven, or to hell (II, i, 62 64). Furthermore, Bill Cosby s actions also reflect his wants and needs. In
the article Bill Cosby raped me. Why did it take 30 years for people to believe my story? Barbara
Bowman expresses Cosby s need of self power. In the article Bowman makes a valid point that the
entertainment world is rife with famous men who use their power to victimize ... young women who

power for his own self centered satisfaction. Since Cosby knew he could lure women due to his fame,
he set forth to sexually assault those who had admired him. Both Cosby and Macbeth s decisions
reflect their ultimate needs. In both cases they made unethical decisions that changed the way people

Caged Bird Persuasive Essay
Be brave; Rise above failure Being brave is knowing that when you fail, you don t fail forever. Lana
Del Rey Being brave when you know you might fail might be considered winning in its own way. Is
being brave standing up to that bully or is being brave as simple as talking to your crush? When you
fail on something you have to rise above it and look on the brighter side. Is failure something to frown
upon or is it something to rise against? Maybe failure is not getting a perfect score on a test or maybe
it s not winning that big game. Whatever your definition of failure is just remember that us as humans
make mistakes but we can learn from them. In Maya Angelou s poem Caged Bird she shows how the
free bird was brave enough to become free and how the caged bird has failed to become free. In
Langston Hughes poem Mother to Son he shows how the past affected the mother and she s telling her
son to be brave enough and strive for the best. In Robert Frost s poem The Road Not Taken he shows
how difficult it is to choose what path to take for the future. Though we make mistakes and fail we can
rise above them and set goals for our future. In Maya Angelou s poem Caged Bird she shows that the
free bird was brave enough to become free and soar through the sky but she also shows how the caged
bird fails to become free because it just sits and waits. Though the free bird is free how did it become
free? The free bird most likely made mistakes but that didn t stop it from achieving its goal of
becoming free. In stanza 1 it states A free bird leaps on the back of the wind and floats downstream till
the current ends and dips his wing in the orange sun rays and dares to claim the sky . This shows that
the free bird is brave and daring to claim the sky. When free bird dares to claim the sky shows that at
first it was hesitant to go into the sky but then it stood up and became brave and soared. In stanza 5 it
states But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream his
wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing . This shows that the caged bird
wants to be heard and be set free but to be free it has to untie its feet which most likely refers to how it

The Book Of Judges Talks About Ancient Israel
The Book of Judges talks about ancient Israel, and how they extended their territory by acquiring
lands from the non Israelites. The book narrates how Israelites conquered and reclaimed their lost land
from non Israelites and how they used to turn from God whenever they are satisfied. But it is written
in the Bible that, the guilty are by no means cleared, as Exodus (34:7) says this is the reason why the
Lord used several Kings and Judges like Deborah to help the people of Israel find their way back to
Him. As the book reveals, it is evident that most of the judges were men (as they were most of the
times referred to as Judges). The book talks about a great woman Deborah, also referred to as the bee ,
as a key judge in the entire book. This book unveils the importance of women (through acts and
strengths of Deborah (mainly) and other heroic female characters) and their power to the readers. The
Book of Judges narrates six women who are and will always be remembered by their outstanding and
remarkable work. They are, Achsah, Deborah, Jael, Japhthah s daughter, Delilah and the identity of
two of them is not revealed. O Connor (1980) suggests that, The book of Judges demonstrates this
disparity as observed; women assume a vital function in its set up as the volume s subject is
marginalization (278). Women are well known in three major roles, that is, being a mother, a daughter
or a mate. Despite these limited roles, the Book of Judges shows that women are powerful and

Compare And Contrast Keats And Sailing To Byzantium
Sailing to Byzantium represents a metaphorical journey from the material world to an eternal world;
there is a spiritual quest in the poem. The poet desires to go to Byzantium, which is symbolic of the
world of spirituality, art and culture. There is a contrast between the two types of life in the poem i.e.
the physical life (material) and spiritual life. The materialistic and temporary has been represented by
the younger generation who is busy enjoying the sensual pleasure and is embroiled in their own lives.
They are so busy in the worldly pleasures that they ignore the old people. No matter how beautiful and
young they may be, their beauty will fade and become old as no one can defy age. On the other hand

Both the poets believe that it is only art which can give solace and contentment in life. The
impermanence of all the earthly and living things has been contrasted with the permanence which art
bestows on them. According to Keats, the work of art is more vivid than the actual life as it has its
own life; Keats touches on this in the third stanza of the poem. Like Yeats, Keats in Ode on a Grecian
Urn also talks about imagination and music:

Are sweeter; therefore, ye soft pipes, play on;
Not to the sensual ear, but, more endear d, Pipe to the spirit ditties of no tone. (Keats) It gives praise to
the sound and activity within the images, as the scenes never seem to age. Paradoxes are used towards
the differences of participation and observation, permanence and change, music and silence. Another
paradox given is of activity and non activity, as well as the melancholy of joy or sadness, such as:

Comparing The And Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde
Compare the use of secrets with in the two main characters of the both novels Victor Frankenstein and
Dr Jekyll (including Mr Hyde)
Both the novels are based around secrets. Victor and Dr Jekyll both have a big secret that happens in
the novel. Both the main characters have a thirst for knowledge leading to their biggest secrets
occurring. Their scientific experiments don t go as planned and these novels teach us as the reader you
can t keep secrets as the truth will always come out.
Victor Frankenstein believes he can create life but for the time of the novel people were very secretive
and didn t like change, they didn t like people knowing their business. The people were not open to the
idea of new creations. Many people were religious so they believed God made life. The same with Dr
Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Jekyll kept his lab very secretive as he knew people would be against his
experiments or would not believe in them. Victor is very interested in the key of life it was the secrets
of heaven and earth I desire to learn . Victor wants to know the unknown, he is very interested to
search for the secrets of life. The world was to me a secret which I desire to divine . The curiosity
shown by Victor is ultimately what drives him to try and discover the secret of life. Shelley uses the
word divine to mean to figure out , as he searches for a way in which one can create life, like the way
God creates life.

Physiology Of Exercise And Human Performance

Lab # 3 Predicting Maximal Oxygen Uptake
30 October 2014
KINE 3153: Physiology of Exercise and Human Performance
Dr. Murat Karabulat
INTRODUCTION: The energy to perform exercise for periods of more than 10 minutes comes mainly
from aerobic metabolism (1). VO2max is a reproducible measure of an individual s cardiovascular
system s ability to deliver the required oxygenated blood to a large muscle mass involved in exercise
(1). The determination of an individual s VO2max is commonly used to assess levels of physical
fitness, as well as develop and monitor training programs for athletes. The submaximal tests have an
error of plus or minus 10% which makes them invalid for the purpose of long term training studies.
For clinical screening purposes the use of submaximal prediction tests is a viable option. There are
three main advantages to using submaximal testing. Submaximal testing does not take and individual
to his or her maximal limits, which greatly reduces the chance of a cardiovascular accident, especially
in older subjects. In addition expensive laboratory equipment is not needed, and more subjects can be
screened in a given period of time.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this laboratory #3 it to acquaint the class with different methods to
estimate VO2max, and to see how these predictions compare to VO2max values acquired during Lab
#2. Laboratory #2 was canceled due to inoperative equipment, so those comparisons cannot be made.

Angels In America Play Analysis
The play made me feel several emotions. For the most part, I sympathized with the majority of the
characters. I especially felt an emotional attachment to Prior and Harper. Both of these characters
needed to be taken care of, but they were ultimately abandoned. Harper seems confident that she will
be fine on her own, but the thought of her being alone still saddens me. I was also happy to read a play
that dealt with Mormonism. I grew up as a Mormon and I am interested when a piece of work
addresses that particular form of Christianity. Mormonism is not addressed in theatre and
entertainment very often, so I found that particular element of the play interesting. It is clear that AIDS

Criminalised Money Laundering In Australia
Criminalisation is a central tenet of any credible anti money laundering (AML) regime. The principal
offences related to money laundering in Australia are contained in division 400 of the Criminal Code
Act 1995(Cth) (the Criminal Code), which applies to both proceeds and instruments of crime.
Recognising the wide array of channels used to launder funds, the provision is framed in broad terms
and has been relied on to prosecute individuals in a variety of circumstances. This versatility has been
acknowledged by the courts with the NSWCA in Milne v R asserting that the money laundering
offences in section 400 constitute a 21st century response to antisocial and criminal conduct
commonly with international elements . Through the remainder of this presentation I will outline the

What Is The Final Chapter Of Nickel And Dimed
The final chapter of Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, Evaluation , states about low income
families being almost invisible to the mid to high income families. This observation is valid because
walking around places, Walmart, Kmart, etc., a person cannot distinguish what class the person is in.
Poorer families are also rarely portrayed on television or other forms of entertainment, unless the
show is about people getting arrested, since most people only find higher class, comfortable people
interesting. Also, everything in society is unequal, a person can sit at a desk and order people around
all day, without moving, and earn a salary of at least $60,000, while the individual or individuals who
get stuck with all of his work, are getting paid around $25,000 a year. Yes, everyone starts out at a low
on the totem pole job at a company and they work their way up the food chain to get to the job they
want, but the lower class gets deemed lazy and or a high school dropout if they are seen waiting tables
or working at a fast food place or retail store past the age of 25 30. Just because they are working
twice as hard as the executives and other people higher up in society, and get paid twice to three times
less than them, does not mean they lack normal human emotions. ... Show more content on

Use Of Biodiesel Over Petroleum Diesel
1.0 Thesis:
The use of biodiesel over petroleum diesel can be proven be easier to make, more energy efficient and
a greener way to run you vehicle.
2.1 Argument 1: Process
The use of biodiesel over the more common petroleum diesel has become a more frequent sight as
people strive for an easier and more environmental beneficial way to run their vehicle with only small
modifications needed. Unlike diesel which uses crude oil, biodiesel is made by converting oils such as
waste vegetable oils to bio diesel.
Diagram 1: Waste oil
As can be seen in the comparison matrix like conventional petrol, biodiesel is also made up of long
chains of hydrogen and carbon atoms, though as can be seen in diagram 1 the oils used to create
biodiesel are slightly different in having three chains of these fatty acids being connected by a
backbone of glycerine. To be able to use these oils for fuel the glycerine backbone has to be removed,
which is done through a process called transesterification. Equation 1: transesterification process
The transesterification process uses alcohols such as methanol which is seen in equation 1 to break the
bonds between the fatty acid chains and the glycerol backbone. Once the glycerol bonds have been
broken away from the fatty acid chain, they are then replaced by methoxy groups from the methanol
used in the process. According to (The Cemistry of Biodiesel, 2014) this process is best done at a
temperature of around 50°C for a complete

Between countries, this is a method of exchange that is gaining more and more popularity. By
importing and exporting for low fees, free trade is an efficient way to cover up weaknesses in the
country and gain on strengths. Free trade is a very controversial topic that is viewed upon differently
by many people in many different countries. Some oppose free trade; they feel it will cause production
losses or low employment in their country. Many countries also embrace it and believe it helps create

The comparative advantage for computers, then, would go to Japan because they are more efficient at
making them. They produce more computers and give up less than Canada does.
Because Japan has the comparative advantage in producing computers in that example, free trade
would maximize both country s production by having Japan specialize in producing computers and
Canada specialize in producing cars. Then, both countries could trade the products they specialize in
for the other, at a fair rate to be determined separately. Without free trade, each country had a bigger
limit on what good they could produce. With trade, both countries still have a limit to what the
countries can produce, but since they are trading what they are best at producing, they are maximizing
the total numbers of goods in the country. Thus by trade at a fair, un taxed rate, they are capable of
having more goods and services in their country and any given time. Both countries are able to
produce the best they can and thus from trade, they receive the most of the other good as they possibly
can. This is known as the law of comparative advantage (Mankiw, Kneebone, McKenzie Rowe 55).
In Canada, the law of comparative advantage produces enormous benefits for both consumers and
producers. First, by establishing trade connections with other countries, it allows Canada to specialize
in producing what it is best in producing. No longer does

The Between Associate And Bachelor s Prepared Nurses And...
The advocates for baccalaureate degree (BSN) educated nurses are growing steadily with both private
and public organizations speaking out in support. The reason for this outcry is understandable. As a
registered nurse with over 15 years of experience, I have come to observe that the current healthcare
environment has become faster in pace and more dynamic and as a result, necessitate the need for
nurses to continually renew, update, and challenge their knowledge. The idea that basic nursing
education will prepare a nurse for a lifetime of practice is no longer reasonable given rapid
technological and scientific advancements (Bahn, 2007; Gillies Pettengill, 1993; Gould Kelly, 2004).
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the differences in competences between associate and bachelor
s prepared nurses and to identify a patient care situation which will describe how nursing interventions
may differ based on nursing education levels Though, associate degree nursing (ADN) students take
the same qualifying examination with the baccalaureate program student to be licensed, the
differences between nurses prepared at both levels cannot be over emphasized. The BSN graduates
bring unique skills to their work as nursing clinicians and play an important role in the delivery of safe
patient care (AACN, 2013). The BSN curriculum is structured in a more in depth way, thereby giving
the students a more well rounded education. They take courses that help them gain a better

This is represented in section 24 of the GST Act; GST (imports relief) Order. However from 1 April
2012 onwards following the 2012 Budget Statement, the GST relief for taxable purchases from

and that the age of travellers no longer affects the grant of the relief. The relief excludes liquor,
tobacco products and petroleum purchases.
The basis of this relief is to reduce the inconvenience of travellers who are only bringing back home
small amount of purchases for personal use such as souvenirs. In addition, over the months and years,
it has been observed that the cost of expenditures (most probably due to inflation) have been
increasing steadily thus the relief has been revised upwards to match the expenditure globally. At the
same time, the increase in relief will help to reduce the queue and hassle due to declaration, checking
of receipts as well as payment of taxable goods at the customs in the airport. This is due to the fact
that most travellers will return back home with a substantial amount of purchases. This will

Student Retention Is A Growing Problem

  • 3. Good Readers Good Writers Nabokov: Providing a Flood and Lifeboat In Nabokov s 1948 Good Readers and Good Writers, the reader has the opportunity to view the possibilities of a beautiful collision of a major reader and a major writer. This piece discusses reading and writing: skills that have become standardized and slightly devalued as education has advanced. Literacy has become so expected that little thought is put into what defines a good reader or writer; Nabokov tackles this idea head on. Nabokov s intention of this piece is to passionately display a relationship that is formed between a good reader and a good writer, and the essential need for an open mind. He stresses the vitality of understanding instead of immediately identifying when reading; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead Nabokov states: study that new world as closely as possible, approaching it as something brand new, having no obvious connection with the worlds we already know (1). When approached in such a manner a major reader can see the new world in its entirety and once it has been explored and understood then there is room to compare its connections to other worlds and knowledge. Nabokov uses bold and unafraid language to emphasize his thoughts and chooses to speak only to those who choose to listen. The lesson he teaches requires the audience to look past personal comparison and preference. The audience must gain understand and appreciate first; then let Nabokov s ideas apply to the world of reading and writing they themselves know it. Nabokov displays this message by refusing to dull any of his thoughts: for example phrases like, Can anybody be so naive as to think he or she can learn anything about the past from those... historical novels? (1). He still has a definite message but in a lot of sentences and phrases they have a condescending punch to them. Nabokov uses superlatives such as: the best temperament for a reader to have... (3). As well as opinionated statements such as: nothing is more boring or more unfair... (1). Statements like these can prevent his audience to open their minds because his language is emotionally provoking. Nabokov purposely tests his audience by using powerful provoking language ... Rheumatoid Arthritis Research Paper Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, systemic autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation of connective tissue in the diarthrodial (synovial) joints, typically with periods of remission and exacerbation (Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper, Bucher, Camera, 2011). The etiology of rheumatoid arthritis is unknown. Autoimmunity and genetic factors are believed to be important in the development of RA. Genetic predisposition appears to be important in the development of RA (Lewis et al., 2011). The strongest evidence for a familial influence is the increased occurrence of a human leukocyte antigen (HLA) (Lewis et al., 2011). • 5. Analysis Of Shakespeare s Hamlet To Be, Either/Or Not To Be Do it or do not do it you will regret both (Kierkegaard 72) is a quote that echoes and expounds upon the famous To be, or not to be (Hamlet 3.1.56). The former quote was written by none other than Danish philosopher and poet, Søren Kierkegaard. Born in 1813, Søren Kierkegaard was well acquainted with Shakespeare s text and often referred to it in his writings. When watching Kenneth Branagh s unique, unabridged adaptation of Hamlet, it is apparent that Kenneth Branagh was able to capture how similar his Hamlet and Søren are in character while making his mark in cinematography history. The connection between Branagh, Shakespeare, and Kierkegaard goes beyond the setting and 19th century architecture of Branagh s recreation of Hamlet. Through both Søren and Kenneth s backstory, choice of esthetics, and their actions in life changing moments the story of Hamlet has proven to be a guide for both of these extraordinary men. The story of Hamlet: a Danish prince s beloved father dies and within two months, his mother marries his uncle, which is considered incestuous and horrendous. While the rest of the courts celebrates, as Kenneth Branagh chooses to emphasis by having white flower petals rain down from the ceiling like confetti, the grieving Hamlet has no say in it. It is not nor it cannot come to good: But break, my heart; for I must hold my tongue (Hamlet 1.2.158 9). In Kierkeggard s review of Shakespeare Hamlet, he notes that Hamlet suffers ... • 8. Family, Friends, And Photography Essay Family, Friends, and Photography What is culture? According to one popular dictionary, Culture is the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group (Merriam Webster Dictionary). To most people that is the first thing that comes to their mind. Culture is not about things that define us or things that we believe, it is about things that are important to us. Mahatma Gandhi says, No culture can live if it attempts to be exclusive. (Buzz Quotes). I agree with Gandhi because culture should be shared no matter what it is. • 9. Voting Behavior Essay Less than 50% of eligible voters will turn out to vote at national elections, and at the local elections there are less than 25%. There is a correlation between voting behavior and the demographic of those voting. Typically, people ages 30 to 65 have been the most likely to vote in the past years. This is in great cause due to this age group being the most politically active. People in this group are more likely to have established homes, steady jobs, and part of the community. They have stronger incentives to be involved in what can affect their lives. Younger people ages 18 24 have been less likely to vote in the past due to lack of interest, money, or time to go. Since the voting barriers have been eliminated the African American citizens vote at least as often as white citizens with the same economic status. African Americans are more involved in politics than other minorities in the US and have the highest level of voter registration and participation. The Latinos only average about 49% of eligible voters to vote. One of the big problems for them is the language barrier, but with the Latino population increasing there is a rise of Spanish campaigning being done alongside the English. The most important that the same survey establishes that 41% of health saving accounts purchasers did not have medical insurance in the past six months period. Many people point out that money on those accounts may be used for many reasons. The council has confidence in those imposing third party substantiation requirements on HSAs will increase expenses and limit Americans opportunities for health care coverage. Comic Books Are Important For The World Comic books are important to the world for the fact that they represent a portion of the population that like to fantasize that they can escape the hardships of everyday life. In comic books people can be a hero, a villain, or a bystander that learns an important lesson from observing the two (Bendis 2). Grant Morrison discusses his views on the difference of the ages and their views on comics: Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. As soon as the reader commits himself or herself, the situation changes. He or she is thrown into an unknown situation that demands total attention (1). The plot is pulled together and the hero is cast in circumstances that demand a resolve. A confrontation follows and against seemingly impossible odds, the hero finds an answer within an unlikely source that the reader would believe they could also find if put in the same situation. Once the comic book is finished being read, the readers recognize that very little time has gone by and they can continue on with their normal lives. The understanding of the comic book doesn t end there. The reader now has time to think on what they just read, what could have been done, what should have been done and other possible outcomes to the plot. This can be done while daydreaming at school or bored to death at work. The importance of contemplating the different endings of a comic book is the fact that it makes the reader truly think ( Bendis 2). This facility was well kept and has much of the equipment to properly and holistically care for their residents. While in practice, I was able to help with a variety of tasks, including morning care and bed making. An essential element of morning care was a skin assessment, typically to look for bruises, dry spots, and most importantly, ulcers. Ulcers are painful and can decrease quality of life (Ricci, 2013). Skin breakdown is typically caused by moisture, skin pH, microorganisms, and friction (Flynn, 2011). The use of stretchy polyester cotton blend sheets at the facility led to the inquiry of skin integrity and the influence of fabrics on aging skin. I began to wonder if fabric breathability make that much of a difference, which lead me to the question of fabrics and facts. In order to collect accurate data researchers used an Alambeta thermos tester, a specialized machine to measure heat and moisture. In this study, polyester and cotton alone caused higher thermal resistance than a cotton polyester blend (Basal Ilgaz, 2009). A strait cotton or polyester blend was found to be better at wicking away moisture, which is one of the main causes of skin breakdown (Basal Ilgaz, 2009). • 20. Why Uranium Is Removed From The Oceans By Diffusion Across... Uranium is removed from the oceans by diffusion across the sediment water interface of organic rich sediments, and this pathway is the largest single sink in the global budget of this element (Anderson et al., 1989; Barnes and Cochran, 1990; Thomson et al., 1990; Lyons et al., 2002; Calvert et al., 2015). Klinkhammer and Palmer (1991) remark that the dissolved uranium is drawn into suboxic sediments along a concentration gradient established by the precipitation of an insoluble phase which forms when U6+ is reduced to U4+. They also mention that this transformation occurs relatively late in the diagenetic sequence, after the microbially mediated dissolution of manganese and iron oxides, and may be induced by the onset of sulfate reduction. Metallo organics play an important role in the diagenetic behavior of this element as some uranium is released into solution when labile organics are consumed at the sediment water interface (Thomson et al., 1990). In contrast, the diagenesis of authigenic Fe and Mn oxides exerts negligible influence on the uranium diagenetic cycle (Barnes and Cochran, 1989). Barnes and Cochran (1989) state that the variations in the uranium concentration of sediment with time are controlled directly by the uranium content of the source material settling from the water column, and indirectly, by the organic content of this material and the sedimentation rate. In this reading, Miles s death is interpreted as a consequence of the governess s failure of protecting the children: she was unable to shield him from Peter Quint s evil. In the psychological reading, the governess is mentally unstable and hallucinates the appearance of the ghosts. In fact, this seems to be a plausible reading of the story, taking all the arguments of the governess s unreliability in account. Lana Del Rey Being brave when you know you might fail might be considered winning in its own way. Is being brave standing up to that bully or is being brave as simple as talking to your crush? When you fail on something you have to rise above it and look on the brighter side. Is failure something to frown upon or is it something to rise against? Maybe failure is not getting a perfect score on a test or maybe it s not winning that big game. Whatever your definition of failure is just remember that us as humans make mistakes but we can learn from them. In Maya Angelou s poem Caged Bird she shows how the free bird was brave enough to become free and how the caged bird has failed to become free. In Langston Hughes poem Mother to Son he shows how the past affected the mother and she s telling her son to be brave enough and strive for the best. In Robert Frost s poem The Road Not Taken he shows how difficult it is to choose what path to take for the future. Though we make mistakes and fail we can rise above them and set goals for our future. In Maya Angelou s poem Caged Bird she shows that the free bird was brave enough to become free and soar through the sky but she also shows how the caged bird fails to become free because it just sits and waits. Though the free bird is free how did it become free? The free bird most likely made mistakes but that didn t stop it from achieving its goal of becoming free. In stanza 1 it states A free bird leaps on the back of the wind and floats downstream till the current ends and dips his wing in the orange sun rays and dares to claim the sky . This shows that the free bird is brave and daring to claim the sky. When free bird dares to claim the sky shows that at first it was hesitant to go into the sky but then it stood up and became brave and soared. In stanza 5 it states But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing . The book narrates how Israelites conquered and reclaimed their lost land from non Israelites and how they used to turn from God whenever they are satisfied. But it is written in the Bible that, the guilty are by no means cleared, as Exodus (34:7) says this is the reason why the Lord used several Kings and Judges like Deborah to help the people of Israel find their way back to Him. As the book reveals, it is evident that most of the judges were men (as they were most of the times referred to as Judges). • 29. Compare And Contrast Keats And Sailing To Byzantium Sailing to Byzantium represents a metaphorical journey from the material world to an eternal world; there is a spiritual quest in the poem. The poet desires to go to Byzantium, which is symbolic of the world of spirituality, art and culture. There is a contrast between the two types of life in the poem i.e. the physical life (material) and spiritual life. The materialistic and temporary has been represented by the younger generation who is busy enjoying the sensual pleasure and is embroiled in their own lives. They are so busy in the worldly pleasures that they ignore the old people. No matter how beautiful and young they may be, their beauty will fade and become old as no one can defy age. On the other hand the spiritual world, which is eternal, has been represented by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both the poets believe that it is only art which can give solace and contentment in life. The impermanence of all the earthly and living things has been contrasted with the permanence which art bestows on them. According to Keats, the work of art is more vivid than the actual life as it has its own life; Keats touches on this in the third stanza of the poem. Like Yeats, Keats in Ode on a Grecian Urn also talks about imagination and music: Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard Are sweeter; therefore, ye soft pipes, play on; Not to the sensual ear, but, more endear d, Pipe to the spirit ditties of no tone. (Keats) It gives praise to the sound and activity within the images, as the scenes never seem to age. Paradoxes are used towards the differences of participation and observation, permanence and change, music and silence. Another paradox given is of activity and non activity, as well as the melancholy of joy or sadness, such as: All breathing human passion far ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Comparing The And Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde Compare the use of secrets with in the two main characters of the both novels Victor Frankenstein and Dr Jekyll (including Mr Hyde) Both the novels are based around secrets. Victor and Dr Jekyll both have a big secret that happens in the novel. Both the main characters have a thirst for knowledge leading to their biggest secrets occurring. Their scientific experiments don t go as planned and these novels teach us as the reader you can t keep secrets as the truth will always come out. Victor Frankenstein believes he can create life but for the time of the novel people were very secretive and didn t like change, they didn t like people knowing their business. The people were not open to the idea of new creations. Many people were religious so they believed God made life. The same with Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Jekyll kept his lab very secretive as he knew people would be against his experiments or would not believe in them. Victor is very interested in the key of life it was the secrets of heaven and earth I desire to learn . Victor wants to know the unknown, he is very interested to search for the secrets of life. The world was to me a secret which I desire to divine . The curiosity shown by Victor is ultimately what drives him to try and discover the secret of life. Shelley uses the word divine to mean to figure out , as he searches for a way in which one can create life, like the way God creates life. • 31. Physiology Of Exercise And Human Performance William L. Easter Lab # 3 Predicting Maximal Oxygen Uptake 30 October 2014 KINE 3153: Physiology of Exercise and Human Performance Dr. Murat Karabulat INTRODUCTION: The energy to perform exercise for periods of more than 10 minutes comes mainly from aerobic metabolism (1). VO2max is a reproducible measure of an individual s cardiovascular system s ability to deliver the required oxygenated blood to a large muscle mass involved in exercise (1). The determination of an individual s VO2max is commonly used to assess levels of physical fitness, as well as develop and monitor training programs for athletes. The submaximal tests have an error of plus or minus 10% which makes them invalid for the purpose of long term training studies. For clinical screening purposes the use of submaximal prediction tests is a viable option. There are three main advantages to using submaximal testing. Submaximal testing does not take and individual to his or her maximal limits, which greatly reduces the chance of a cardiovascular accident, especially in older subjects. In addition expensive laboratory equipment is not needed, and more subjects can be screened in a given period of time. PURPOSE: The purpose of this laboratory #3 it to acquaint the class with different methods to estimate VO2max, and to see how these predictions compare to VO2max values acquired during Lab #2. Laboratory #2 was canceled due to inoperative equipment, so those comparisons cannot be made. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Angels In America Play Analysis The play made me feel several emotions. For the most part, I sympathized with the majority of the characters. I especially felt an emotional attachment to Prior and Harper. Both of these characters needed to be taken care of, but they were ultimately abandoned. Harper seems confident that she will be fine on her own, but the thought of her being alone still saddens me. I was also happy to read a play that dealt with Mormonism. I grew up as a Mormon and I am interested when a piece of work addresses that particular form of Christianity. Mormonism is not addressed in theatre and entertainment very often, so I found that particular element of the play interesting. It is clear that AIDS is an important subject in Angels in America: Millennium ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Criminalised Money Laundering In Australia Criminalisation is a central tenet of any credible anti money laundering (AML) regime. The principal offences related to money laundering in Australia are contained in division 400 of the Criminal Code Act 1995(Cth) (the Criminal Code), which applies to both proceeds and instruments of crime. Recognising the wide array of channels used to launder funds, the provision is framed in broad terms and has been relied on to prosecute individuals in a variety of circumstances. This versatility has been acknowledged by the courts with the NSWCA in Milne v R asserting that the money laundering offences in section 400 constitute a 21st century response to antisocial and criminal conduct commonly with international elements . The maximum penalty associated with this offence was a $200 000 fine or up to 20 years imprisonment. In contrast, section 82 created a lesser offence of possessing the proceeds of crime, making it unlawful for a person to receive, possesses, conceal, disposes of or brings into Australia any money, or other property, that may reasonably be suspected of being proceeds of crime . The latter offence did not require any actual or constructive knowledge of the origins of the tainted money or property and was thus associated with a lesser maximum penalty (on ... • 34. What Is The Final Chapter Of Nickel And Dimed The final chapter of Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, Evaluation , states about low income families being almost invisible to the mid to high income families. This observation is valid because walking around places, Walmart, Kmart, etc., a person cannot distinguish what class the person is in. Poorer families are also rarely portrayed on television or other forms of entertainment, unless the show is about people getting arrested, since most people only find higher class, comfortable people interesting. Also, everything in society is unequal, a person can sit at a desk and order people around all day, without moving, and earn a salary of at least $60,000, while the individual or individuals who get stuck with all of his work, are getting paid around $25,000 a year. Yes, everyone starts out at a low on the totem pole job at a company and they work their way up the food chain to get to the job they want, but the lower class gets deemed lazy and or a high school dropout if they are seen waiting tables or working at a fast food place or retail store past the age of 25 30. Just because they are working twice as hard as the executives and other people higher up in society, and get paid twice to three times less than them, does not mean they lack normal human emotions. ... • 35. Use Of Biodiesel Over Petroleum Diesel 1.0 Thesis: The use of biodiesel over petroleum diesel can be proven be easier to make, more energy efficient and a greener way to run you vehicle. 2.1 Argument 1: Process The use of biodiesel over the more common petroleum diesel has become a more frequent sight as people strive for an easier and more environmental beneficial way to run their vehicle with only small modifications needed. Unlike diesel which uses crude oil, biodiesel is made by converting oils such as waste vegetable oils to bio diesel. Diagram 1: Waste oil As can be seen in the comparison matrix like conventional petrol, biodiesel is also made up of long chains of hydrogen and carbon atoms, though as can be seen in diagram 1 the oils used to create biodiesel are slightly different in having three chains of these fatty acids being connected by a backbone of glycerine. To be able to use these oils for fuel the glycerine backbone has to be removed, which is done through a process called transesterification. Equation 1: transesterification process The transesterification process uses alcohols such as methanol which is seen in equation 1 to break the bonds between the fatty acid chains and the glycerol backbone. Once the glycerol bonds have been broken away from the fatty acid chain, they are then replaced by methoxy groups from the methanol used in the process. According to (The Cemistry of Biodiesel, 2014) this process is best done at a temperature of around 50°C for a complete ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The comparative advantage for computers, then, would go to Japan because they are more efficient at making them. They produce more computers and give up less than Canada does. Because Japan has the comparative advantage in producing computers in that example, free trade would maximize both country s production by having Japan specialize in producing computers and Canada specialize in producing cars. Then, both countries could trade the products they specialize in for the other, at a fair rate to be determined separately. Without free trade, each country had a bigger limit on what good they could produce. With trade, both countries still have a limit to what the countries can produce, but since they are trading what they are best at producing, they are maximizing the total numbers of goods in the country. Thus by trade at a fair, un taxed rate, they are capable of having more goods and services in their country and any given time. Both countries are able to produce the best they can and thus from trade, they receive the most of the other good as they possibly can. This is known as the law of comparative advantage (Mankiw, Kneebone, McKenzie Rowe 55). In Canada, the law of comparative advantage produces enormous benefits for both consumers and producers. First, by establishing trade connections with other countries, it allows Canada to specialize in producing what it is best in producing. No longer does ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Between Associate And Bachelor s Prepared Nurses And... The advocates for baccalaureate degree (BSN) educated nurses are growing steadily with both private and public organizations speaking out in support. The reason for this outcry is understandable. As a registered nurse with over 15 years of experience, I have come to observe that the current healthcare environment has become faster in pace and more dynamic and as a result, necessitate the need for nurses to continually renew, update, and challenge their knowledge. The idea that basic nursing education will prepare a nurse for a lifetime of practice is no longer reasonable given rapid technological and scientific advancements (Bahn, 2007; Gillies Pettengill, 1993; Gould Kelly, 2004). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the differences in competences between associate and bachelor s prepared nurses and to identify a patient care situation which will describe how nursing interventions may differ based on nursing education levels Though, associate degree nursing (ADN) students take the same qualifying examination with the baccalaureate program student to be licensed, the differences between nurses prepared at both levels cannot be over emphasized. The BSN graduates bring unique skills to their work as nursing clinicians and play an important role in the delivery of safe patient care (AACN, 2013). The BSN curriculum is structured in a more in depth way, thereby giving the students a more well rounded education. They take courses that help them gain a better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The relief excludes liquor, tobacco products and petroleum purchases. The basis of this relief is to reduce the inconvenience of travellers who are only bringing back home small amount of purchases for personal use such as souvenirs. In addition, over the months and years, it has been observed that the cost of expenditures (most probably due to inflation) have been increasing steadily thus the relief has been revised upwards to match the expenditure globally. At the same time, the increase in relief will help to reduce the queue and hassle due to declaration, checking of receipts as well as payment of taxable goods at the customs in the airport. Student retention is a growing problem across the nation for all ethnic groups and all ages. Each individual who chooses to drop out of school has their own personal reasons as to why they do. However, many drops out can be completely avoided. When students drop out they are not clearly thinking about how it s going to affect their future, the future of their children and even grandchildren. Although there are several reasons as to why students drop out of school, we will be exploring a few as it relates to why student retention is a growing problem. Transitioning into higher education presents challenges for all students, whether it s their age or previous educational history. Numerous individuals are extremely nervous as they are entering into an advanced environment such as higher education. This because college is a new learning environment at a completely different level. However, freshmen find college to be difficult at first because it s harder for them to adjust.
