The Principles Of Homeostasis And The Contribution Of The...
This essay aims to describe the principles of homeostasis, and the contribution of the cardiovascular
system to homeostasis. Using the example of congestive heart failure (CHF), the causes and the
consequences of a homeostatic imbalance in cardiac output will be explained.
Homeostatic principles
Homeostasis can generally be defined as the condition in which the body s internal environment
remains relatively constant within physiological limits [1]. This type of equilibrium is dynamic as the
body is constantly subject to stimuli, which produce stress responses (stressors). The body s
homeostatic mechanisms therefore act to counter these stressors and return equilibrium within narrow
limits that allow the body to maintain life. A key function of every body system is preserving a
constant internal environment, which involves maintaining the volume of body fluid. To ensure that
body cells function well, homeostasis is required to regulate the composition of extracellular fluid
(ECF), for example ECF within blood vessels is blood plasma; in the brain and spinal cord this is
cerebrospinal fluid. One third of body water is in the ECF [2], which constitutes the body s internal
environment . The precise regulation of substances such as glucose, oxygen, ions and waste such as
carbon dioxide is essential to ensure that cells are subject to conditions that are optimum for life.
The stressors that the body could be exposed to can either originate from the internal or external

Explication of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost Essay
Explication of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
When reading The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost, I found that it was personal, especially to the
author. The fact that it was written in first person form helped me to conclude that it was probably
about the author. I think the reasoning behind his writing of this poem was because in life, you have
many obstacles to overcome and many choices and decisions to make, which opens a path that leads
the way to your future. Since those things relate to Frost, I think it motivated him to write this poem
on a personal basis, like a short autobiography on his life. It motivated him because he could then tell
others about his life and give advice and guidance to the people that read his ... Show more content on

The thing that always holds true though, is that the major issues people s lives are always ironically
similar to each other or, at least can relate to them in many ways. Therefore, I found that this poem not
only symbolizes or relates to the author, but it also symbolizes or holds true to almost everybody s
lives.
One of the major symbols within this poem is the roads. When he says Two roads diverged in a yellow
wood, he is using the roads to symbolize the paths, choices, and decisions that he has to make in his
life. Those decisions guide the way to his future, because when you come to a two way street or road
you have to decide or make a choice on which path to take. Also when he says And sorry I could not
travel both And be on traveler, he is telling us how he is insecure on which road to take because he is
unsure of what s ahead and would like to travel both roads to come up with a conclusion or a decision
on the correct road to take. So overall, what road basically symbolizes in this poem is the options that
he has in his life and the decisions that he has to make.
Another symbol in this poem is the many observations that he makes. When he says long I stood And
looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth, he is using his observations to
symbolize the brainstorming, analyzing, and thinking you have to do before or ahead of time when
you are offered two options in your life and only one path to take.

The, Siddhartha, By Herman Hesse
Set in ancient India, Siddhartha, written by Herman Hesse, narrates a soul s quest in pursuit of the
answers to humanity s role in this realm. Centered around a Brahmin s son, Siddhartha, Hesse
illustrates how powerful society is to both promote and hinder Siddhartha s pilgrimage towards
spiritual enlightenment. It is through sin, lust, and profound despair that Siddhartha learned to not
resist but to love all as is. Through this mindset of accepting everything, Siddhartha attains Nirvana.
Siddhartha had one single goal to become empty, to become empty of thirst, desire, dreams, and
sorrow to let the self die (11). As a young Indian, Siddhartha suffered thirst, he thirsted for knowledge.
This philosophy leads him on the path of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before, he saw the world as an illusive veil , which he disregarded and ostracized from his thoughts;
he saw his Self as Atman, the eternal nature of everything. Now awakened, Siddhartha listened only to
the voice within his Self, He would only strive after whatever the inward voice commanded him, not
tarry anywhere but where the voice advised him (39), and this voice led him to the town of Kamala
and Kamaswami. This town, or society, was very monumental to the development of Siddhartha. It
was necessary to isolate himself in this society. Though he was isolated, he felt separated and superior
to the people, He saw people living in such childish or animal like way (57), which he laughed at; this
was because he had been a Samana, where he had despised money, small pleasures, and trivial honors.
Siddhartha viewed the people s lives as a game, which he derived amusement from. While his
physical body resided in the town, his real self wandered elsewhere, invisibly; he had remained a
Samana at heart. But, over the years he became enveloped in comfortable living. He hardly noticed the
years passing as he had become rich, possessed both a house and servants. His glorious awakening
and the prominent voice within him slowly became a memory, had passed. His ascetic philosophy
slowly died as well. Siddhartha became accustomed to fine living; He had learned to wear fine
clothes, to

To What Extent Was the Election of 1800 Aptly Named the...
The election of Thomas Jefferson in 1800 was one of the most major turning points for America.
America was only an official country for 24 years and we were about to make some of the most
important decisions that would affect us to this day. Thomas Jeffersons economic view that farmers
were the most productive and trustworthy citizens, yet recognized that we needed a machine based
economy along with Albert Gallatin issuing the, Report on Roads and Canals, leading to the creation
of a national road were both big contributions to the American economy at that present time. Along

The Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark expeditions were big turning points in American
history because of the ability to settle into new lands and to start new businesses and farms in new
places. When Thomas Jefferson bought the entire Louisiana territory from Napoleon it was a huge
advantage to our economy. It enabled us to start new businesses and farms, thus making us a much
richer and more powerful country. Since it enabled America to start new farms it fed into Jeffersons
philosophy of wanting a more agricultural economy. This purchase helped our trading significantly,
we could trade much easier with different countries because we had access to the Mississippi River.
When Jefferson purchased the Louisiana territory from Napoleon he did not really even know what he
was buying, except for the size of the territory. So, he sent a group of explorers to document and map
out the entire Louisiana territory, this expedition was led by two men named Lewis and Clark. They
founded many new animals and set an example for the Americans that would later on settle these areas
for how to live in each certain area of the Louisiana purchase. . The Louisiana Purchase followed by
Lewis and Clarks expedition were both big investments that payed off huge for America.

Questions On The Chinese Room
In Minds, Brains, and Programs John Searle objects to Computational Theory of Mind (CTM),
particularly that running a program on a computer and manipulating symbols does not mean that the
computer has understanding, or more generally a mind. In this paper I will first explain Searle s
Chinese Room, then I will explain CTM and how it relates to the Chinese Room. Following this I will
describe how the Chinese Room attacks the CTM. Next I will explain the Systems Reply to the
Chinese Room and how the Systems Reply actually undermines Searle s conclusion in the Chinese
Room. Then I will describe Searle s response to the Systems Reply and how that response undermines
the Systems Reply. Lastly, I will evaluate Searle s reply to the Systems Reply and defend the Systems
Reply against the points Searle raises against the Systems Reply. To explain the Chinese Room I will
first explain the instructions in the Chinese room; then I will explain how the man inside the room
manipulates these instructions. Finally, given that the man only operates the instructions, Searle s
conclusion is that the man does not understand Chinese. Therefore, the whole system does not
understand Chinese. The instructions in the room are a complex set of rules that guide the man inside
to receive inputs and produce outputs all written in Chinese. The instructions, written in English, tell
the man if you see this Chinese symbol paired with this Chinese symbol put down these Chinese
symbols, or if

Introduction
Argentina before its Great Depression in 1998 2002
Prior to becoming a democratic country, Argentina was exposed to a military dictatorship. Under this
regime the Economy Minister was Jose Alfredo Martinez de Hoz whose neoliberal economic platform
sided along to anti labor, monetarist policies and financial liberalization. As a result of this regime,
Argentina accumulated a $45 billion foreign debt. As a result interest rates exceeded trade surpluses,
unemployment increased and there were high inflation rates. In 1985 a democracy was reestablished
once President Raul Alfonsin was elected. Alfonsin s government intended to stabilize the economy by
establishing the austral, a new currency. However, this was unsuccessful because the government
couldn t continue to fund its debts. The cost of utility increased significantly as real wages fell by
almost half. As a result uncertainty increased across the country, inflation increased from 200% a year
in 1988 to 5,000% in 1989 (Brooke).
However, the economy improved once elected President

Gouty Arthritis
Gouty arthritis, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and left ventricular hypertrophy are the main diagnosis.
American College of Rheumatology diagnostic criteria for gout is the presence of urate crystals in the
joint fluid (Hainer et al., 2014). Monosodium urate crystals are seen under a polarizing light
microscope which confirms the diagnosis of gout. Furthermore, the most commonly affected area is
the first metatarsophalangeal joint. Other common sites are mid tarsal joints, ankles, knees, fingers,
wrists and elbows. Also, gout appears to be red and swellon in the affected joint (Saccamano, 2015).
Similarly, patient had left knee pain with redness and swelling. Hypertension is diagnosed by the

I should have ordered gram stain and culture of synovial fluid to rule out septic arthritis (Pujalte,
2015). Even though monosodium urate crystals are found, it is important to order gram staining and
culture of synovial fluid because gout and septic arthritis can coexist (Saccamano, 2015). It is less
likely to be rheumatoid arthritis because of negative RF factor, negative ANA, absence of joint
stiffness and symptoms are unilateral (Pujalte Albano Aluquin, 2015). Rheumatoid arthritis has a
symmetrical presentation. It could be cellulitis because of the presence of warm, tender, swollen and
tenderness in the left knee. Cellulitis can be both sudden or gradual (Baddour, 2015). Also, symptoms
worsen and erythema expand over the course of hours or day. Hence, gradual worsening of signs and
symptoms with the treatment of gout point towards cellulitis. It is not pseudogout because of the
absence of calcium pyrophosphate crystals and elevated uric acid level (Hainer et al., 2014). The
patient with pseudogout can have symptoms similar to gout and respond to NSAIDS (nonsteroidal anti
inflammatory drugs). I did not consider trauma as one of the differential diagnosis but, DXR
recommended to consider one. I agree because sudden onset of pain could be the cause of trauma or
injury. Since patient smokes pack a day and has been smoking for the last 30 years, I should have

One of the first obstacles Krakauer and his team have to face is the Khumbu Icefall. The Icefall is an
area of huge ice blocks called seracs, some as big office buildings. Climbing through the icefall is
extremely dangerous and can cost a climber their life. Krakauer writes The Icefall was a different
story. No parts of the South Col route was feared more by climbers. This was the infamous Khumbu
Icefall, the most technically demanding section on the entire route (79). Krakauer also describes the
Icefall as a game of Russian Roulette. Russian Roulette is a game where one puts a bullet in a
revolver, put the gun at their head and pulls the trigger. It is a very deadly game and survival is not
guaranteed. Another example of Krakauer having to face his fears is on his way down to base camp
four. At this point he has run out of oxygen again and moving forward is a slow processes. There is
only one obstacle between him and the tents, descending on an incline of hard glassy ice with no rope.
Krakauer states There was no margin for error. Worried about making a critical blunder, I sat down to
marshal my energy before descending further (201). After resting for a while at the top of the ice
Krakauer is able to make it down. Fear got in Krakauer s way but never stopped

Uber Profile Research Paper
Bravo! You ve somehow passed your background check and talked your way through the big
interview. Now you re an official Uber driver! From this day forward your pay depends on the amount
of fares you get. To maximize your passengers, you need a perfect five star rating on your Uber
profile. Here is a list of ten tips to gain that perfect score: 1. There s no need for a GPS: The guessing
game is a fun way to test your knowledge of the town. Choosing which way to turn will entertain you
and your passengers during the ride. Besides, longer rides give you more time to really get to know
who s in your car. 2. Lanes are just suggestions: Those solid yellow lines down the center of the street
don t mean anything! Drive on either side you prefer. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Show off your driving skills...Drive with your knees: You need to impress your passengers; knee
driving will certainly woo them. It will also allow your hands to get involved in the conversation.
Hand gestures pull your passengers in and can never be too excessive, especially while driving down
interstate. You ll build an intimate relationship with each person you drive around. 8. Play bumper
cars: Who doesn t love a good round of bumper cars? Smashing into nearby vehicles adds a dangerous
element to the experience, which will be fun. Other cars will realize your game and join in! Trust me.
Nobody will get hurt. Sometimes police cars play, but they get too into it...Hold your ground, as they
might try to push you completely off the road. 9. Drop passengers off a couple blocks away from their
destinations: They can walk the rest of the way. America is becoming too lazy nowadays, and you will
help people exercise again. If they refuse to leave the car, push them out. They ll thank you eventually.
10. Choose your own rates: The price is calculated by the app, but you should still ask for more
money. Your passengers will completely understand because if you have followed these steps, you are
the best Uber driver out there. They ll know you deserve a much higher pay than the average

The Reason That Chip Wilson Plunged Lululemon Into Crisis
Analysis The reason that Chip Wilson plunged Lululemon into crisis again is because of three major
issues: lack of media training as a spokesperson, lack of comprehensive crisis management plan in the
company, and failure of internal communication. First of all, spokesperson media training is part of
crisis preparation. In this case, lacking media training includes training for a TV interview and training
for filming a video apology. Prior to Chip Wilson s interview with Bloomberg TV, managers from the
PR department should have conducted a comprehensive media training to Wilson. Topics cover from
diagnosing company s vulnerabilities, to preparing for difficult questions, to how to utilize chances to
re enhance the company s image, and how to risk averse after a major crisis. As Wilson s answer
caused another crisis, I assume that he was not ready to answer the questions of sheer pants recall, nor
he was ever participated in any media training at all. Erik Bernstein who runs a crisis management
blog noted that some people should never act as spokesperson. In fact, what surprised me was that as a
company s founder and chairman of board, it was Chip Wilson s responsibility to have a general
knowledge about the crisis and what caused the crisis and what procedures they have taken to solve
the crisis. Even though he was never prepared for those questions beforehand, answers such as women
s bodies don t fit its pants should have never came up. This crisis could have been

The First American Party System Essay
Section 8
Chapter 5: The First American Party System
Today, political parties are an authoritative and essential component of the United States political
system. However, it is important to examine how the political parties began and evolved over
hundreds of years, since they were first established. In 1794, the major political parties were the
Federalists and the Democratic Republicans. The major difference between these two was that the
Federalists favored a strong central government, while the Democratic Republicans preferred a central
government with limited power and more state control. At the time of the election, it seemed that the
prominent, distinguished Federalist Party clearly had the upper hand, but in the end the ... Show more

A looming question in the minds of many people was whether political parties would destroy the
newly formed union or strengthen it and opinion on the answer was highly divided. The years from
1789 to 1801 and the events that took place between them were vital in the survival and development
of the government of the new nation. The American people had proved to be effective in destroying
governments, as seen in the American Revolution and the ultimate destruction of the Articles of
Confederation and the test of the nation was if the people could build a new, competent government
(93). The 1794 election was tremendously important in that it was part of the shift towards a more
democratic government and the citizens of the land feared both an oligarchic based system and a
democratic one. Although the Federalists controlled much of the public opinion, John Swanwick and
the Democratic Republicans procured the victory. Swanwick controlled the votes of seven of the
twelve wards, and collected 56% of the votes cast (93). This defeat resulted in a sudden shift from
Federalist power to Democratic Republican dominance and Federalism slowly lost more and more
influence.
The evidence available to analyze the election of 1794 and why it turned out the way it did is vast and
diverse. The way to understand any election is to understand why the voters chose one candidate

Pros And Cons Of The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana purchase was Spain s territory of about 828,000,000 square miles. Louisiana being
Spain territory made it extremely difficult to move goods because, without access to the Mississippi
River, the goods had to be moved through the mountains. With access to the Mississippi River, the
goods could be taken by boat. Thomas Jefferson knows that Spain is struggling, so he knows he is
more likely to be able to purchase Louisiana from them because they needed the money.
Spain signed the Treaty of Ildefonso and gave the territory to France. Jefferson knew that France
would be more difficult to get through to because France was ruled by Napoleon and he wanted to
build an empire. If Napoleon built his empire in Louisiana and made it his base then he would be able
to attack American territory easily. Since Napoleon was trying to take over Europe while George
Washington was in office, what would have stopped him from trying to take over the United States?
Santo Domingo was an island that Napoleon wanted to be his base of operations for his military. Santo
Domingo had sugar plantations with slaves. When the slaves began to uprise, led by Toussaint L
ouverture, there were far more slaves on the island then other people so it was easy for the slaves to
take over and kill everybody. Napoleon wanted Santo Domingo so he sent about 25,000 soldiers from
his troops. The slaves beat Napoleon s troops too and France had the strongest military of them all.

II. Introduction
Across the globe, the primary universal language that is accepted in English. To communicate
effectively and interact in corporate and industrial environment at international level, an effective hold
of language is must especially from students in colleges as they represent the future. But, there are
very few countries in the world which have English as their first language. Therefore a level of
difficulty arises for non native speakers of English to adjust in the international standards of the
language. Also, countries which do not have English as their first language struggle with the accent
and dialect of their individuals where culture becomes an important factor in the use of Universal
language English especially with use of slang words. This is an era of modernization and social media,
internet communication plays an important role in exposure to the western culture in other countries of
the world.

What Is The Moral Of The Story Ivan More Than The Zoo
Ivan is a unique gorilla, he was locked up in a small domain for most of his life (27 years) and is taken
away to a zoo where he has to relearn what he should ve learned a long time ago. He lived in a
shopping mall and he had three friends while he was there (Ruby, Bob and Stella), when he got bored,
he drew. Drawing was what got him out of the mall and into a zoo where he enjoyed his life happily.
Before going into the mall, Ivan lived as a human; he and Mack, his caretaker, went everywhere
together. Then, Ivan grew too big and was transferred to the mall where he lived for more than two
decades. In those years, he met some friends, who talked to him and played with him. Stella was an
elephant, she was very wise and told lots of stories to Ivan and Ruby. Next is Bob, he is a stray dog, he
escaped from the humans who tried to catch him and lives in the ... Show more content on

Also, in the zoo, he had a large enclosure where he could play and live, in the mall he had a small

an animal to gain people s attention and earn money (one example is Ivan s paintings, Mack just
thinks of them as $20 merchandise while they are meaningful to Ivan); in the zoo they thought of Ivan
as a gorilla and took care of him instead of just locking him in a cage and giving him a couple bananas
once in a while. Mack used to be good to Ivan when Ivan was little; Mack thought of him as a human

Australia s National Security Policy
Introduction
Australia s national security landscape has changed significantly throughout its history, especially
through the Howard, Rudd and Gillard years when fuelled by globalisation, terrorism and widespread
economic turmoil. However, despite the varying nature of the threat landscape over the past century
Australia has not until recently documented a combined, singular, national approach to national
security policy. Both the 2008 National Security Statement and the 2013 Australian National Security
Strategy have sought to fill a critical gap in Australia s policy theatre however the efficacy of these
documents to achieve these goals is heavily debated. This paper critically analyses the 2013 National
Security Strategy, through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This became extremely evident, where with the state firmly entrenched as the referent object of
security , regional stability was challenged as the situation in East Timor escalated in the late 1990s on
Australia s doorstep. Compounding this reactionary approach were the events of September 11 and the
subsequent War on Terror, alongside other bombings in London, Madrid and Bali. Terrorism and
resultant responses seemingly encapsulated the entire national security agenda of Australia which
ensured that broader policy was unable to keep pace with the rapidly developing and turbulent security
landscape, particularly as a result of the fluidity of threats (for example those caused by non state
actors and cyber attacks). Surprisingly despite the continuing reality and rapidly evolving nature of
security threats faced by Australia, the Howard era remained strongly focused strongly on military
statecraft, fuelled in large part by Australia s ongoing role with the War on Terror.
The 2008 National Security Statement
The 2008 National Security Statement (the Statement) departed swiftly from the concept of the state
as the referent objective of security, focusing on a broader more multi dimensional all hazards
approach. The Statement gave voice to the idea of a centralised approach to national security policy,
for the benefit of both public transparency and in communication Australia s intentions to

The Pros And Cons Of The Seebeck Effect
Energy loss is a problem encountered in every industrial process and everyday technology take power
stations for example. Electricity is generated by heat engines by which gas or steam powered turbines
convert the heat to mechanical energy then into electricity, however 70% of this energy is lost as heat
energy. Similarly in all electronics devices energy is lost through heat.
So we know that electricity creates heat mainly because or electrical devices warm up during its use.
But imagine how useful it would be to generate electricity from this heat created, in other words using
this lost energy which is in the form of heat to generate electricity so eventually you d be using every
bit of energy to generate electric power. This objective can be reached by applying the Seebeck Effect.
The seebeck effect is a phenomenon by which a temperature difference between two conductors or
semiconductors of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It all started in 1981 when a German physicist called Thomas Johann Seebeck accidently found that a
compass magnet would deflect when a circuit with two different metals with different temperature
junction. He concluded that that there is an induced electric current in the circuit that deflected the
magnet according to ampere s law. So the voltage that was due to the difference in temperature drives
the current in a closed circuit.
In order To measure this voltage, a second conductor material which generates a different voltage
under the same temperature gradient must be used. Otherwise, if the same material is used for
measurement, the voltage generated by the measuring conductor would simply cancel that of the first
conductor. The voltage difference generated by the two materials can then be measured and related to
the corresponding temperature gradient. It is thus clear that, based on Seebeck s principle;
thermocouples can only measure temperature differences and need a known reference temperature to

Lab Report: Environmental Control of Sex Determination
Introduction
Ceratopteris richardii, known as a C fern has a lifecycle referred to as alteration of generations, which
consist of neither haploid nor diploid dominant. C ferns are homospours plants which are important in
that they can produce hermaphrioditic gametophytes in order to be able to self fertilize. However,
some of the homospourous C ferns only produce male gametophytes .The life cycle of Ceratopteris
richardii starts as a diploid sporophyte which then, by meiosis, produces haploid spores. These spores
then undergo mitosis to produce a haploid gametophyte, which can be either hermaphrodite(
producing eggs and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Results The graph of our results showed the percentage of male gametophytes increasing and then
leveling off (Figure 1). This was our trend because most of the points followed this pattern, however;
there was a potential outlier at point (68, 32.3). The distribution of gametophytes on the culture plates
varied. Plates A and F had even distribution but were very crowed with gametophytes, while plates D
and C were evenly distributed but had less gametophytes. Plate E had clumping of gametophytes in
the top left corner and plate B had clumping the the bottom right corner.
Figure 1. The relationship between the population density and the percentage of male gametophytes.
Discussion
The prediction that the percentage of male gametophytes would increase as the population density of
the gametophytes increased, and the prediction that the percentage of male gametophytes would
decrease as the population density of the gametophytes increased were not supported by our results.
When the population density was low, the percentage of male gametophytes was relatively low
because there would not be enough eggs to fertilize the sperm produced from both the
hermaphrodite, and the sperm produced by the male gametophyte. When the population density was
high, the percentage of male gametophytes was higher but still less than fifty percent because of the
same reasons. The data from our results did support our

The Enlightment In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, readers can interpret that Shelley is highly critical of the Enlightment
movement s scientific calculated approach towards the understanding of the world. Anthropocentrism
dominated scientific and intellectual discourses so it believed that that science and technology, will
drive humans to the impossible feats and the understanding of the unknown. Shelley s attacks this
notion through the protagonist, Victor Frankenstein, who succumbs to an ironic consequence; his
aspiration to become a creator of life leads to failure and misery, becoming even more disconnected
from the world. However, it can also be interpreted how it was Frankenstein s creation through
science, the monster, was the only force that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

philosophy although it criticizes religious beliefs. Just as God could not create and control how we
believe and feel, Frankenstein could not control the way his creation feels. The monster emphasizes
this idea by trying to enlighten Frankenstein of how it his duty to provide for the monster and
understand him. When the monster says
Unfeeling, heartless creator! You had endowed me with perceptions and passions, and then cast me

Relationship Between Depression And A Shadow
He once told me that depression felt like a shadow. Everywhere he went, it was right there with him.
The difference between depression and a shadow is that when the sun sinks below the horizon and the
stars begin to appear, the shadow loses its fuel and leaves until dawn. With depression, night only
made the shadow stronger. He described depression as a broken feeling; he had cracks within himself
where sadness always seemed to settle. He had told me when I first met him that I would never

Its sad to think that in some circumstances happiness can be neither pursued or compromised by

The Human Pancreas Is An Organ Of Both Endocrine And Exocrine
The human pancreas is an organ of both endocrine and exocrine function in regulating blood sugars
and aiding in digestion respectively. About 95 percent of the human pancreas is made of exocrine
tissue and the remaining of endocrine. In exocrine glands, secretions flow through ducts into a body
cavity, such as the nasal passage or urinary tract, rather than directly into the circulation of the
bloodstream, which is a characteristic of the endocrine pancreas.
The exocrine pancreas is split into two major substituents, the acini and the duct system, each
comprised of intralobular and interlobular components.
The acinar cells secrete digestive enzymes, which are also synthesized here. The name of these
enzyme secreting units comes from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These epithelial cells protrude short microvilli from their surface, which contain an abundance of
secretory granules, secreting fluids, which make up the majority of pancreatic juices. Epithelial cells
found in the main pancreatic duct are analogous in structure to those of the interlobular ducts. Both
sections of the duct system have thick, collagenous walls. Leakage prevention of the duct system is
carried out by the Zonula Occludens intercellular tight junctions between the duct and acinar cells.
The pancreatic duct, also known as the duct of Wirsung, connects the pancreas to the bile duct. Hence,
allowing the pancreatic juices to be transported to the gall bladder to fuse with bile, aiding in digestion
and neutralization of gastric acids.
In the case of the exocrine glands, secretions consist of aqueous mixtures. Enzyme secretion in the
pancreas is stimulated by the vagus and a hormone called pancreozymin, which is formed when it is
exposed to proteoses or peptones. The pancreas releases 1000 to 1500 ml of pancreatic juice into the
pancreatic duct each day. Secretions of the pancreas consists of two principal constituents, an alkaline
fluid and enzymes such as lipase, protease and α amylase that are necessary for digestion of fats,
proteins and carbohydrates in vertebrates respectively. Other enzymes present include trypsin,
chymotrypsin and colipase.
The pancreas secretes most of these enzymes as inactive precursors

In Canada, concerns involving environmental security are not the top priority. But due to recent

environmental problems internationally. There are many ways Canada can stay committed to
environmental security, for example, increased funding to Canada s Department of National Defence s
Environment Department. Also to stay committed to increased access and support to Voluntary
Environmental Programs across Canada. Finally to completely stay up to world standards in
environmental security, Canada must implement an effective environmental planning system.

The main type of contamination is hydrocarbons. Over a long period of time, Canada has used a lot of
fuel and has used many fuel storage facilities, as these storage facilities age, hydrocarbons form and
are lethal to the environment. A notable hydrocarbon clean up was the Distant Early Warning (DEW)
line, which contained 21 contaminated radar military sites. Currently, eight of them are clean and two
are currently being cleaned. If these sites were ignored, the surrounding environment would be a
wasteland and no economic benefit would be derived from that area (Stones, 2004).
Even though the DND s Environment Department seems to be working hard, Canada s environment is
still being affected by war even though there has not been one here in the 20th century. In 2003,
Canada s military was called in to protect the environment because the Environment Department
failed to follow federal environmental laws to protect habitats. The department simply does not have
the personnel or resources to complete all the environment concerns across Canada (Bow, 2004). The
most important thing to know about the DND s Environment Department is that it lacks funding
because, when it comes to the Canadian Government, it is not of main concern. The Canadian
Government is focused too much on short term issues and not focused enough on long term issues

Mainly because I have not thought about the certain circumstance that was presented before.

Advantages Of Dentists
A severe shortage of dentists has hit rural America leaving millions of people stranded in a dental
desert. Individuals who are low income, older adults, minorities, or those with special needs often
have a harder time accessing dental care. Rural areas of the country are more likely to have poorer
residents who are without dental insurance. These citizens must travel long distances to seek out a
dentist. Accessing adequate dental care has become a major health concern in the United States,
leaving many with tooth decay and other serious health concerns. In order to fix the broken system of
oral health care the government, states, and private sector need to come together and create new funds
for dental programs. States should consider adopting dental therapists or dental practitioners as a way
to provide general care to those living in dental deserts. The American Dental Hygienists Association
(ADHA) has created a task force on the Advanced Dental Hygiene Practitioner (ADHP) and with the
approval from the ADHA House of Delegates, has established a scope of practice and educational
guidelines for those pursing this profession. ADHP s are a viable solution for rural communities facing
oral health barriers. These practitioners provide basic procedures and assist with prevention of tooth
decay by providing education on effective brushing habits. Rural areas of the country need dental

Wiene was exploiting a fear common to us all. Prone and sleeping the woman is uttlerly helpless. She
is carried off into the expressionist labyrinth that Wiene used to symbolize the darkest torments of the
human mind and soul. A beautiful woman is carried off by evil, a play on the
Beauty and the Beast themes that would become so popular in horror films.
Used expressionism, films that explored dream, nightmare and psyche and that found their narrative
shape determined less by action than emotion. Used angular sets and heavy shadows to develop a
macabre and horrific atmosphere for its tale of murder and madness. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
intentionally uses sets that look artificial. The deliberate distortions were meant to portray what a
tormented soul might perceive. German expressionism, known as dada, and surrealism rejected
notions of reality, the German expressionist movement, modern art was underway. Used tilted sets,
and twisted cardboard trees. Light and shadow were used to create a response, and get the viewer
emotionally connected. Two films imported from Germany named Passion and Sumurun starring a
popular actress named Pola Negri opened the door for other German imports. The popularity of Negri
and Caligari combined helped to create a small art house market. The

Diesel Fuel Prices Trucking Industry
The recent surge in the cost of heating oil, diesel fuel, and gasoline in the United States has had
significant impact on many sectors of the U.S. economy, but most importantly it has had quite a
devastating affect on the trucking industry. This is important due to the fact that nearly 70% of U.S.
communities rely solely on trucking for their supplies ( ATA 23). If the government continues it s trend
of non intervention and refuses to place pressure on OPEC, the prices will continue to soar well over
the two dollar mark, and cause the trucking industry as a whole to shut down bringing the U.S.
economy to a grinding halt. What is the reason that gasoline and fuel prices are so high? Most people
believe it is because of OPEC raising ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may not seem like a big deal but to the refineries that produce the fuel it is a very big deal
because all of their equipment would have to be changed to allow for the desulphurization of the fuel.
Though the refineries argued against it saying less sulphur would damage engines the EPA upheld
their decision. Thus the refineries had to put in new equipment, which in the long run ended up
tacking on an additional $ 3.9 billion to already high fuel costs ( Cutting Sulphur 13). One of the
industries hardest hit by the fuel cost increase is the trucking industry. Truckers depend on diesel fuel
as their lifeblood, without it the rigs and our economy would come to a screeching halt. There is no
single affect of high fuel costs on every driver and company; rather there are many varying degrees to
which they are all affected. To large companies, it is more of an inconvenience than a problem because
they do such a large amount of business that the slight change in the price of diesel is almost
negligible in comparison to their revenues. For smaller businesses it is a whole different ballgame.
These companies are constantly fighting and working their figures to get business because it is
survival of the fittest. Whoever has the lowest rate per pallet or by the truckload is usually the one
who gets the contract and with this additional expense for fuel it makes it very difficult to cut a good

Essay On Scholarly Articles On Leadership
Scholarly Articles 1 by EDD 9100 CRN 35455 Leadership Seminar Nova Southeastern University
February 4, 2012 Scholarly Articles 1 According to the authors of this article (Donaldson, Marnik,
Mackenzie, Ackerman, 2009), principals need to concentrate on the development of skills and
behaviors in order to be successful in motivating, leading, and changing the direction of a school. The
successful principal understands that there exists a fine balance of caring for others and the need to
accomplish specific tasks (Donaldson, Marnik, Mackenzie, Ackerman, 2009). The following areas are
targeted in this article: the need to become an effective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In terms of becoming a mediator and consensus builder the authors detailed the need for principals to
possess relational leadership skills in order to be able to both facilitate groups and coach others on
staff in the ability to facilitate their own groups, and stressed that the key to this is the ability to
effectively participate in conflict resolution (Donaldson, Marnik, Mackenzie, Ackerman, 2009). The
authors suggested that conflict is part and parcel of school reform and that in addition to being able to
deal effectively with conflict the successful principal needs to develop the ability for bringing about
consensus within the group, noting that interpersonal and intrapersonal skills were as much or more
important than knowledge (Donaldson, Marnik, Mackenzie, Ackerman, 2009). In the area of
relationships it was noted that principals that are most effective are those that place high value on
people and relationships and that when this exists as a core part of the belief system of the principal it
is noticeable and is communicated to staff in both subtle and explicit ways (Donaldson, Marnik,
Mackenzie, Ackerman, 2009). According to the authors this sense of value comes through in all of the
dealings that the principal has with stakeholders (Donaldson, Marnik, Mackenzie, Ackerman, 2009). It
shows in body language, expression, communication, tone and innumerable other subtle signals that

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi And The Prosperity Workers
The Prosperity Workers
There are many types of people around the world who help others in the pursuit of social justice.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Cesar Chavez, and Wangari Maathai are some of the type who were
looking for justice, equality, and equal opportunities. These human rights activists all fought for their
rights and persisted in trying to make a change in the world around them.
One of the most popular human rights activists who fought for racial equality, Mohandas Karamchand
Gandhi would stop at no length to achieve this. Gandhi developed his philosophy of Satyagraha, or
resistance through non violent civil disobedience to defend his rights and the rights of all Indians and
non whites. Practices of Satyagraha included boycotts, protest marches, and fasts. He encouraged
others to defend their rights in this manner, and to work together to end racial injustice in South Africa
(Study Synce). One for encouraging people to face their fears,Gandhi would let people get out of their
comfort zones and fight for what is theirs; With this, Gandhi would also have people who did not
agree with him. The author stated that Gandhi was sent to prison for 6 years, Gandhi had been thrown
off a train in South America because he was Indian, and had attempts of assassination against him, the
final one being successful from a Buddhist extremist Nathuram Vinayak Godse (Sivananda). Even
though Gandhi had faced obstacles such as these, nevertheless, people still rallied to him and
supported him during troubling times, this would help Gandhi achieve racial justice. Gandhi s firm
and tenacious adherence to the cause of the poor, the downtrodden Harijans, and the common man of
the Indian village, is indeed worthy of emulation. Through all the vicissitudes of time and power and
fame, he kept before the vision of the Indian Congress the fundamental purpose for which it came into
being the amelioration of the suffering of the poor. Uncrowned king of the land, he remained a friend
of the poor; he lived for them, moved among them as one of them, and served them with all his heart.
He saw God in them, and in their service wore out his body (Sivananda). As seen from what Gandhi
had done and how people were inspired by him,

Depression In High Heat
As society advances, teens lose a sense of identity and therefore are prone to depression. Sometimes
this depression has sustaining effects. For example, if a teen has friends who pressure him to be to
himself, he might feel less worried and feel sad. Often he has no idea to whom to turn. Henry
Longfellow once said that, Every man has his secret sorrows which the world knows not, and often we
call a man cold when he is only sad. One s attitude is affected by one s secrets. Shane, the protagonist
in the novel High Heat, suffers from depression and subsequently conquers it. First, he loses his
beloved father to suicide. Second, Shane finds out that his father was a petty drug dealer who had no
self control. Thereby, Shane s view of his father ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The novel ends up with Shane receiving help from friends and family to overcome his depression. In
the end, he didn t just overcome his depression he had gained back his interest in baseball and become
a good student and a star player on the team again. The game he once loved was the thing that saved
him from his depression. Shane, just like every other teen, has a personal story of loss, recovery, and
renewal during their depression. For teens who suffers this type of disorder receiving help from people
you know is a critical role in recovery. According to the book by Carl Deuker, Mr.Kraybill, the social
worker assigned to supervise me, was making his first house visit...A good psychologist might be able
to jump start you again, get you back among the living. Otherwise, you re going to fall in with a bunch
of losers (89). Shane has no choice to follow the detections from his social worker; it is a good sign,
Shane is receiving the proper help he needs to get back to his normal life. Shane is not alone in the
situation because his family and his supervisor are there supporting him to fight his disorder; and all
his supervisors are telling him he should keep playing baseball, it would cure him if he stays focus on
playing it. It will distract him from breaking the law, setting the right track for him. It was a good
choice for Mr.Kraybill to forced him to see a psychologist, because if he didn t force Shane to the
treatment he would never go. In the novel I hadn t lied to Benny. What I d said was true. I was the
same. Only I different, too. Entirely different (277). At the end of this high school period, he had
finally become the student that his family and coach expected him to be; he eventually moved on from
his past and prepared for his future. Admitting to himself that he has become a different person, he
wants to reconcile with his inner demons. While Shane avoided parts of the terrible events,

Socrates Essay
SOCRATES Socrates was a Greek philosopher who lived between 470 399 B.C. He turned Greek
attention toward questions of ethics and virtue and away from those of the heavenly bodies. Socrates
spent much time in the Agora (marketplace) where he held conversations with townspeople. Socrates
believed that real truth could be found out through thought and collaboration with others. He was
known for exposing ignorance, hypocrisy, and conceit. Despite having many followers, Socrates was
disliked by most Athenians. At the age of 70, he was convicted of atheism, treason and corruption of
the young. He was originally ordered to leave Athens, but chose to drink poison instead. This great
man valued the law over his life, and so he chose to drank ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But after Athens lost her empire by losing the Peloponnesian War and had undergone two oligarchic
reigns of terror at the hands of the gilded, Socratified rich kids, her patience with Socrates ended.
Socrates was charged in 399 B.C. with quot;impiety against the gods of the city quot; and with
quot;corrupting the young. quot; He was guilty on all counts. Socrates basic premise of government
according to Xenophon s quot;Memorabilia quot; was quot;that it is the business of the ruler to give
orders and of the ruled to obey. quot; So the ruler should have total, unaccounted power. The second
charge against Socrates, that he had corrupted the youth of Athens, was even more damning. The
foremost examples of the gilded youth he led astray was Alcibiades and Critias, although Socrates
effect on the rich young aristocratic fops was already mentioned in Aristophanes quot;The Birds, quot;
written in 414 B.C., fifteen years before he was called to account: Why, till ye built this city in the air,

starved, unwashed, Socratified, With scytales in their hands; but Oh the change! They are all bird mad

battlefield. But the lesson Alcibiades learned from Socrates was that the rulers have no duty to their

  • 2. The Principles Of Homeostasis And The Contribution Of The... This essay aims to describe the principles of homeostasis, and the contribution of the cardiovascular system to homeostasis. Using the example of congestive heart failure (CHF), the causes and the consequences of a homeostatic imbalance in cardiac output will be explained. Homeostatic principles Homeostasis can generally be defined as the condition in which the body s internal environment remains relatively constant within physiological limits [1]. This type of equilibrium is dynamic as the body is constantly subject to stimuli, which produce stress responses (stressors). The body s homeostatic mechanisms therefore act to counter these stressors and return equilibrium within narrow limits that allow the body to maintain life. A key function of every body system is preserving a constant internal environment, which involves maintaining the volume of body fluid. To ensure that body cells function well, homeostasis is required to regulate the composition of extracellular fluid (ECF), for example ECF within blood vessels is blood plasma; in the brain and spinal cord this is cerebrospinal fluid. One third of body water is in the ECF [2], which constitutes the body s internal environment . The precise regulation of substances such as glucose, oxygen, ions and waste such as carbon dioxide is essential to ensure that cells are subject to conditions that are optimum for life. The stressors that the body could be exposed to can either originate from the internal or external ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Explication of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost Essay Explication of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost When reading The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost, I found that it was personal, especially to the author. The fact that it was written in first person form helped me to conclude that it was probably about the author. I think the reasoning behind his writing of this poem was because in life, you have many obstacles to overcome and many choices and decisions to make, which opens a path that leads the way to your future. Since those things relate to Frost, I think it motivated him to write this poem on a personal basis, like a short autobiography on his life. It motivated him because he could then tell others about his life and give advice and guidance to the people that read his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The thing that always holds true though, is that the major issues people s lives are always ironically similar to each other or, at least can relate to them in many ways. Therefore, I found that this poem not only symbolizes or relates to the author, but it also symbolizes or holds true to almost everybody s lives. One of the major symbols within this poem is the roads. When he says Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, he is using the roads to symbolize the paths, choices, and decisions that he has to make in his life. Those decisions guide the way to his future, because when you come to a two way street or road you have to decide or make a choice on which path to take. Also when he says And sorry I could not travel both And be on traveler, he is telling us how he is insecure on which road to take because he is unsure of what s ahead and would like to travel both roads to come up with a conclusion or a decision on the correct road to take. So overall, what road basically symbolizes in this poem is the options that he has in his life and the decisions that he has to make. Another symbol in this poem is the many observations that he makes. When he says long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth, he is using his observations to symbolize the brainstorming, analyzing, and thinking you have to do before or ahead of time when you are offered two options in your life and only one path to take. ... • 4. The, Siddhartha, By Herman Hesse Set in ancient India, Siddhartha, written by Herman Hesse, narrates a soul s quest in pursuit of the answers to humanity s role in this realm. Centered around a Brahmin s son, Siddhartha, Hesse illustrates how powerful society is to both promote and hinder Siddhartha s pilgrimage towards spiritual enlightenment. It is through sin, lust, and profound despair that Siddhartha learned to not resist but to love all as is. Through this mindset of accepting everything, Siddhartha attains Nirvana. Siddhartha had one single goal to become empty, to become empty of thirst, desire, dreams, and sorrow to let the self die (11). As a young Indian, Siddhartha suffered thirst, he thirsted for knowledge. This philosophy leads him on the path of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before, he saw the world as an illusive veil , which he disregarded and ostracized from his thoughts; he saw his Self as Atman, the eternal nature of everything. Now awakened, Siddhartha listened only to the voice within his Self, He would only strive after whatever the inward voice commanded him, not tarry anywhere but where the voice advised him (39), and this voice led him to the town of Kamala and Kamaswami. This town, or society, was very monumental to the development of Siddhartha. It was necessary to isolate himself in this society. Though he was isolated, he felt separated and superior to the people, He saw people living in such childish or animal like way (57), which he laughed at; this was because he had been a Samana, where he had despised money, small pleasures, and trivial honors. Siddhartha viewed the people s lives as a game, which he derived amusement from. While his physical body resided in the town, his real self wandered elsewhere, invisibly; he had remained a Samana at heart. But, over the years he became enveloped in comfortable living. He hardly noticed the years passing as he had become rich, possessed both a house and servants. His glorious awakening and the prominent voice within him slowly became a memory, had passed. His ascetic philosophy slowly died as well. Siddhartha became accustomed to fine living; He had learned to wear fine clothes, to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

America was only an official country for 24 years and we were about to make some of the most important decisions that would affect us to this day. Thomas Jeffersons economic view that farmers were the most productive and trustworthy citizens, yet recognized that we needed a machine based economy along with Albert Gallatin issuing the, Report on Roads and Canals, leading to the creation of a national road were both big contributions to the American economy at that present time. The Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark expeditions were big turning points in American history because of the ability to settle into new lands and to start new businesses and farms in new places. When Thomas Jefferson bought the entire Louisiana territory from Napoleon it was a huge advantage to our economy. It enabled us to start new businesses and farms, thus making us a much richer and more powerful country. Since it enabled America to start new farms it fed into Jeffersons philosophy of wanting a more agricultural economy. This purchase helped our trading significantly, we could trade much easier with different countries because we had access to the Mississippi River. When Jefferson purchased the Louisiana territory from Napoleon he did not really even know what he was buying, except for the size of the territory. So, he sent a group of explorers to document and map out the entire Louisiana territory, this expedition was led by two men named Lewis and Clark. • 6. Questions On The Chinese Room In Minds, Brains, and Programs John Searle objects to Computational Theory of Mind (CTM), particularly that running a program on a computer and manipulating symbols does not mean that the computer has understanding, or more generally a mind. In this paper I will first explain Searle s Chinese Room, then I will explain CTM and how it relates to the Chinese Room. Following this I will describe how the Chinese Room attacks the CTM. Next I will explain the Systems Reply to the Chinese Room and how the Systems Reply actually undermines Searle s conclusion in the Chinese Room. Then I will describe Searle s response to the Systems Reply and how that response undermines the Systems Reply. Lastly, I will evaluate Searle s reply to the Systems Reply and defend the Systems Reply against the points Searle raises against the Systems Reply. To explain the Chinese Room I will first explain the instructions in the Chinese room; then I will explain how the man inside the room manipulates these instructions. Finally, given that the man only operates the instructions, Searle s conclusion is that the man does not understand Chinese. Therefore, the whole system does not understand Chinese. The instructions in the room are a complex set of rules that guide the man inside to receive inputs and produce outputs all written in Chinese. The instructions, written in English, tell the man if you see this Chinese symbol paired with this Chinese symbol put down these Chinese symbols, or if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Under this regime the Economy Minister was Jose Alfredo Martinez de Hoz whose neoliberal economic platform sided along to anti labor, monetarist policies and financial liberalization. As a result of this regime, Argentina accumulated a $45 billion foreign debt. As a result interest rates exceeded trade surpluses, unemployment increased and there were high inflation rates. In 1985 a democracy was reestablished once President Raul Alfonsin was elected. Alfonsin s government intended to stabilize the economy by establishing the austral, a new currency. However, this was unsuccessful because the government couldn t continue to fund its debts. The cost of utility increased significantly as real wages fell by almost half. As a result uncertainty increased across the country, inflation increased from 200% a year in 1988 to 5,000% in 1989 (Brooke). However, the economy improved once elected President ... American College of Rheumatology diagnostic criteria for gout is the presence of urate crystals in the joint fluid (Hainer et al., 2014). Monosodium urate crystals are seen under a polarizing light microscope which confirms the diagnosis of gout. Furthermore, the most commonly affected area is the first metatarsophalangeal joint. I should have ordered gram stain and culture of synovial fluid to rule out septic arthritis (Pujalte, 2015). Even though monosodium urate crystals are found, it is important to order gram staining and culture of synovial fluid because gout and septic arthritis can coexist (Saccamano, 2015). It is less likely to be rheumatoid arthritis because of negative RF factor, negative ANA, absence of joint stiffness and symptoms are unilateral (Pujalte Albano Aluquin, 2015). Rheumatoid arthritis has a symmetrical presentation. It could be cellulitis because of the presence of warm, tender, swollen and tenderness in the left knee. Cellulitis can be both sudden or gradual (Baddour, 2015). Also, symptoms worsen and erythema expand over the course of hours or day. Hence, gradual worsening of signs and symptoms with the treatment of gout point towards cellulitis. It is not pseudogout because of the absence of calcium pyrophosphate crystals and elevated uric acid level (Hainer et al., 2014). The patient with pseudogout can have symptoms similar to gout and respond to NSAIDS (nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs). I did not consider trauma as one of the differential diagnosis but, DXR recommended to consider one. I agree because sudden onset of pain could be the cause of trauma or injury. • 12. The Reason That Chip Wilson Plunged Lululemon Into Crisis Analysis The reason that Chip Wilson plunged Lululemon into crisis again is because of three major issues: lack of media training as a spokesperson, lack of comprehensive crisis management plan in the company, and failure of internal communication. First of all, spokesperson media training is part of crisis preparation. In this case, lacking media training includes training for a TV interview and training for filming a video apology. Prior to Chip Wilson s interview with Bloomberg TV, managers from the PR department should have conducted a comprehensive media training to Wilson. Topics cover from diagnosing company s vulnerabilities, to preparing for difficult questions, to how to utilize chances to re enhance the company s image, and how to risk averse after a major crisis. As Wilson s answer caused another crisis, I assume that he was not ready to answer the questions of sheer pants recall, nor he was ever participated in any media training at all. Erik Bernstein who runs a crisis management blog noted that some people should never act as spokesperson. In fact, what surprised me was that as a company s founder and chairman of board, it was Chip Wilson s responsibility to have a general knowledge about the crisis and what caused the crisis and what procedures they have taken to solve the crisis. Even though he was never prepared for those questions beforehand, answers such as women s bodies don t fit its pants should have never came up. This crisis could have been ... The First American Party System Essay Section 8 Chapter 5: The First American Party System Today, political parties are an authoritative and essential component of the United States political system. However, it is important to examine how the political parties began and evolved over hundreds of years, since they were first established. In 1794, the major political parties were the Federalists and the Democratic Republicans. The major difference between these two was that the Federalists favored a strong central government, while the Democratic Republicans preferred a central government with limited power and more state control. A looming question in the minds of many people was whether political parties would destroy the newly formed union or strengthen it and opinion on the answer was highly divided. The years from 1789 to 1801 and the events that took place between them were vital in the survival and development of the government of the new nation. The American people had proved to be effective in destroying governments, as seen in the American Revolution and the ultimate destruction of the Articles of Confederation and the test of the nation was if the people could build a new, competent government (93). The 1794 election was tremendously important in that it was part of the shift towards a more democratic government and the citizens of the land feared both an oligarchic based system and a democratic one. Although the Federalists controlled much of the public opinion, John Swanwick and the Democratic Republicans procured the victory. Swanwick controlled the votes of seven of the twelve wards, and collected 56% of the votes cast (93). This defeat resulted in a sudden shift from Federalist power to Democratic Republican dominance and Federalism slowly lost more and more influence. • 16. Pros And Cons Of The Louisiana Purchase The Louisiana purchase was Spain s territory of about 828,000,000 square miles. Louisiana being Spain territory made it extremely difficult to move goods because, without access to the Mississippi River, the goods had to be moved through the mountains. With access to the Mississippi River, the goods could be taken by boat. Thomas Jefferson knows that Spain is struggling, so he knows he is more likely to be able to purchase Louisiana from them because they needed the money. Spain signed the Treaty of Ildefonso and gave the territory to France. Jefferson knew that France would be more difficult to get through to because France was ruled by Napoleon and he wanted to build an empire. If Napoleon built his empire in Louisiana and made it his base then he would be able to attack American territory easily. Since Napoleon was trying to take over Europe while George Washington was in office, what would have stopped him from trying to take over the United States? Santo Domingo was an island that Napoleon wanted to be his base of operations for his military. Santo Domingo had sugar plantations with slaves. When the slaves began to uprise, led by Toussaint L ouverture, there were far more slaves on the island then other people so it was easy for the slaves to take over and kill everybody. He lived in a shopping mall and he had three friends while he was there (Ruby, Bob and Stella), when he got bored, he drew. Drawing was what got him out of the mall and into a zoo where he enjoyed his life happily. Before going into the mall, Ivan lived as a human; he and Mack, his caretaker, went everywhere together. Then, Ivan grew too big and was transferred to the mall where he lived for more than two decades. In those years, he met some friends, who talked to him and played with him. Stella was an elephant, she was very wise and told lots of stories to Ivan and Ruby. Next is Bob, he is a stray dog, he escaped from the humans who tried to catch him and lives in the ... Australia s National Security Policy Introduction Australia s national security landscape has changed significantly throughout its history, especially through the Howard, Rudd and Gillard years when fuelled by globalisation, terrorism and widespread economic turmoil. However, despite the varying nature of the threat landscape over the past century Australia has not until recently documented a combined, singular, national approach to national security policy. Both the 2008 National Security Statement and the 2013 Australian National Security Strategy have sought to fill a critical gap in Australia s policy theatre however the efficacy of these documents to achieve these goals is heavily debated. This became extremely evident, where with the state firmly entrenched as the referent object of security , regional stability was challenged as the situation in East Timor escalated in the late 1990s on Australia s doorstep. Compounding this reactionary approach were the events of September 11 and the subsequent War on Terror, alongside other bombings in London, Madrid and Bali. Terrorism and resultant responses seemingly encapsulated the entire national security agenda of Australia which ensured that broader policy was unable to keep pace with the rapidly developing and turbulent security landscape, particularly as a result of the fluidity of threats (for example those caused by non state actors and cyber attacks). Surprisingly despite the continuing reality and rapidly evolving nature of security threats faced by Australia, the Howard era remained strongly focused strongly on military statecraft, fuelled in large part by Australia s ongoing role with the War on Terror. The 2008 National Security Statement The 2008 National Security Statement (the Statement) departed swiftly from the concept of the state as the referent objective of security, focusing on a broader more multi dimensional all hazards approach. The Statement gave voice to the idea of a centralised approach to national security policy, for the benefit of both public transparency and in communication Australia s intentions to ... • 22. The Pros And Cons Of The Seebeck Effect Energy loss is a problem encountered in every industrial process and everyday technology take power stations for example. Electricity is generated by heat engines by which gas or steam powered turbines convert the heat to mechanical energy then into electricity, however 70% of this energy is lost as heat energy. Similarly in all electronics devices energy is lost through heat. So we know that electricity creates heat mainly because or electrical devices warm up during its use. But imagine how useful it would be to generate electricity from this heat created, in other words using this lost energy which is in the form of heat to generate electricity so eventually you d be using every bit of energy to generate electric power. This objective can be reached by applying the Seebeck Effect. The seebeck effect is a phenomenon by which a temperature difference between two conductors or semiconductors of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It all started in 1981 when a German physicist called Thomas Johann Seebeck accidently found that a compass magnet would deflect when a circuit with two different metals with different temperature junction. He concluded that that there is an induced electric current in the circuit that deflected the magnet according to ampere s law. So the voltage that was due to the difference in temperature drives the current in a closed circuit. In order To measure this voltage, a second conductor material which generates a different voltage under the same temperature gradient must be used. Otherwise, if the same material is used for measurement, the voltage generated by the measuring conductor would simply cancel that of the first conductor. The voltage difference generated by the two materials can then be measured and related to the corresponding temperature gradient. It is thus clear that, based on Seebeck s principle; thermocouples can only measure temperature differences and need a known reference temperature to yield the absolute ... Bio Term Essay Lard WEeduck Dr. Lerdkig Lab Report #2 November 9, 2011 Lab Report: Environmental Control of Sex Determination Introduction Ceratopteris richardii, known as a C fern has a lifecycle referred to as alteration of generations, which consist of neither haploid nor diploid dominant. C ferns are homospours plants which are important in that they can produce hermaphrioditic gametophytes in order to be able to self fertilize. However, some of the homospourous C ferns only produce male gametophytes .The life cycle of Ceratopteris richardii starts as a diploid sporophyte which then, by meiosis, produces haploid spores. These spores then undergo mitosis to produce a haploid gametophyte, which can be either hermaphrodite( producing eggs and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plates A and F had even distribution but were very crowed with gametophytes, while plates D and C were evenly distributed but had less gametophytes. Plate E had clumping of gametophytes in the top left corner and plate B had clumping the the bottom right corner. Figure 1. When the population density was low, the percentage of male gametophytes was relatively low because there would not be enough eggs to fertilize the sperm produced from both the hermaphrodite, and the sperm produced by the male gametophyte. When the population density was high, the percentage of male gametophytes was higher but still less than fifty percent because of the same reasons. The data from our results did support our ... Anthropocentrism dominated scientific and intellectual discourses so it believed that that science and technology, will drive humans to the impossible feats and the understanding of the unknown. Shelley s attacks this notion through the protagonist, Victor Frankenstein, who succumbs to an ironic consequence; his aspiration to become a creator of life leads to failure and misery, becoming even more disconnected from the world. The Human Pancreas Is An Organ Of Both Endocrine And Exocrine The human pancreas is an organ of both endocrine and exocrine function in regulating blood sugars and aiding in digestion respectively. About 95 percent of the human pancreas is made of exocrine tissue and the remaining of endocrine. In exocrine glands, secretions flow through ducts into a body cavity, such as the nasal passage or urinary tract, rather than directly into the circulation of the bloodstream, which is a characteristic of the endocrine pancreas. The exocrine pancreas is split into two major substituents, the acini and the duct system, each comprised of intralobular and interlobular components. Leakage prevention of the duct system is carried out by the Zonula Occludens intercellular tight junctions between the duct and acinar cells. This is important due to the fact that nearly 70% of U.S. communities rely solely on trucking for their supplies ( ATA 23). If the government continues it s trend of non intervention and refuses to place pressure on OPEC, the prices will continue to soar well over the two dollar mark, and cause the trucking industry as a whole to shut down bringing the U.S. economy to a grinding halt. What is the reason that gasoline and fuel prices are so high? Most people believe it is because of OPEC raising ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This may not seem like a big deal but to the refineries that produce the fuel it is a very big deal because all of their equipment would have to be changed to allow for the desulphurization of the fuel. Though the refineries argued against it saying less sulphur would damage engines the EPA upheld their decision. Thus the refineries had to put in new equipment, which in the long run ended up tacking on an additional $ 3.9 billion to already high fuel costs ( Cutting Sulphur 13). One of the industries hardest hit by the fuel cost increase is the trucking industry. Truckers depend on diesel fuel as their lifeblood, without it the rigs and our economy would come to a screeching halt. There is no single affect of high fuel costs on every driver and company; rather there are many varying degrees to which they are all affected. To large companies, it is more of an inconvenience than a problem because they do such a large amount of business that the slight change in the price of diesel is almost negligible in comparison to their revenues. For smaller businesses it is a whole different ballgame. These companies are constantly fighting and working their figures to get business because it is survival of the fittest. Whoever has the lowest rate per pallet or by the truckload is usually the one who gets the contract and with this additional expense for fuel it makes it very difficult to cut a good ... In terms of becoming a mediator and consensus builder the authors detailed the need for principals to possess relational leadership skills in order to be able to both facilitate groups and coach others on staff in the ability to facilitate their own groups, and stressed that the key to this is the ability to effectively participate in conflict resolution (Donaldson, Marnik, Mackenzie, Ackerman, 2009). The authors suggested that conflict is part and parcel of school reform and that in addition to being able to deal effectively with conflict the successful principal needs to develop the ability for bringing about consensus within the group, noting that interpersonal and intrapersonal skills were as much or more important than knowledge (Donaldson, Marnik, Mackenzie, Ackerman, 2009). In the area of relationships it was noted that principals that are most effective are those that place high value on people and relationships and that when this exists as a core part of the belief system of the principal it is noticeable and is communicated to staff in both subtle and explicit ways (Donaldson, Marnik, Mackenzie, Ackerman, 2009). According to the authors this sense of value comes through in all of the dealings that the principal has with stakeholders (Donaldson, Marnik, Mackenzie, Ackerman, 2009). It shows in body language, expression, communication, tone and innumerable other subtle signals that help to set ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi And The Prosperity Workers The Prosperity Workers There are many types of people around the world who help others in the pursuit of social justice. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Cesar Chavez, and Wangari Maathai are some of the type who were looking for justice, equality, and equal opportunities. These human rights activists all fought for their rights and persisted in trying to make a change in the world around them. One of the most popular human rights activists who fought for racial equality, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi would stop at no length to achieve this. Gandhi developed his philosophy of Satyagraha, or resistance through non violent civil disobedience to defend his rights and the rights of all Indians and non whites. Practices of Satyagraha included boycotts, protest marches, and fasts. He encouraged others to defend their rights in this manner, and to work together to end racial injustice in South Africa (Study Synce). One for encouraging people to face their fears,Gandhi would let people get out of their comfort zones and fight for what is theirs; With this, Gandhi would also have people who did not agree with him. The author stated that Gandhi was sent to prison for 6 years, Gandhi had been thrown off a train in South America because he was Indian, and had attempts of assassination against him, the final one being successful from a Buddhist extremist Nathuram Vinayak Godse (Sivananda). Even though Gandhi had faced obstacles such as these, nevertheless, people still rallied to him and supported him during troubling times, this would help Gandhi achieve racial justice. Gandhi s firm and tenacious adherence to the cause of the poor, the downtrodden Harijans, and the common man of the Indian village, is indeed worthy of emulation. Through all the vicissitudes of time and power and fame, he kept before the vision of the Indian Congress the fundamental purpose for which it came into being the amelioration of the suffering of the poor. Uncrowned king of the land, he remained a friend of the poor; he lived for them, moved among them as one of them, and served them with all his heart. He saw God in them, and in their service wore out his body (Sivananda). As seen from what Gandhi had done and how people were inspired by him, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Socrates Essay SOCRATES Socrates was a Greek philosopher who lived between 470 399 B.C. He turned Greek attention toward questions of ethics and virtue and away from those of the heavenly bodies. Socrates spent much time in the Agora (marketplace) where he held conversations with townspeople. Socrates believed that real truth could be found out through thought and collaboration with others. He was known for exposing ignorance, hypocrisy, and conceit. Despite having many followers, Socrates was disliked by most Athenians. At the age of 70, he was convicted of atheism, treason and corruption of the young. He was originally ordered to leave Athens, but chose to drink poison instead. But after Athens lost her empire by losing the Peloponnesian War and had undergone two oligarchic reigns of terror at the hands of the gilded, Socratified rich kids, her patience with Socrates ended. Socrates was charged in 399 B.C. with quot;impiety against the gods of the city quot; and with quot;corrupting the young. quot; He was guilty on all counts. Socrates basic premise of government according to Xenophon s quot;Memorabilia quot; was quot;that it is the business of the ruler to give orders and of the ruled to obey. quot; So the ruler should have total, unaccounted power. The second charge against Socrates, that he had corrupted the youth of Athens, was even more damning. The foremost examples of the gilded youth he led astray was Alcibiades and Critias, although Socrates effect on the rich young aristocratic fops was already mentioned in Aristophanes quot; The Birds, quot; written in 414 B.C., fifteen years before he was called to account: Why, till ye built this city in the air, _____ line 1280 All men had gone Laconian mad; they went __ [Spartan mad] Long haired, half starved, unwashed, Socratified, With scytales in their hands; but Oh the change!
