This document outlines vocabulary activities to teach 7th grade students about adjectives. Teaching Vocabulary Skills
I. Audience: Grade 7

IV. Objectives
a. Define Adjectives;
b. Determine the correct ordering of a series of Adjectives;
c. Identify accurately the importance of Adjectives in daily conversation and writing
activities; and
d. Exaggerate and expand the sentences by placing adjectives in correct order in the
sentence.
V. Materials
Craft paper with the list of strong adjectives
Paper cards with a written questions or a tag or negative
VI. Vocabulary Skills
Students will have the opportunity to use strong adjectives in their own
sentences.
Students will learn about the ordering of series of adjectives in English.
VII. Activities (Steps)
First activity: Exaggerate
1. This activity can be done by students individually.
2. Beforehand, the teacher prepared cards with written tag or negative questions.
3. The teacher will post the list of strong adjectives such as enormous, delicious,
fascinating, horrible, marvelous, astonished, furious and terrified.
4. The game begins with the cards face down on the table.
5. Each student must pick a card on the table and read out the question.
6. Then, after reading the question the student should call a name of a classmate who
will answer the question using the appropriate strong adjective.
For example:
Student 1: The scenery here is so attractive, isn’t it? Carla!
Student 2 (Carla): Yes, that’s correct. It’s so fascinating.
7. The second student then will pick another card, and reads out the question, and
calls out another to answer it. The same process will be repeated as long as all the
students have answered.
8. Any student who will fail to use strong adjective in his/her answer is eliminated.

2. Second activity:Expand
1. The teacher will first give a short sentence.
2. Students, in response, have to expand or supply the sentence with an adjective by
putting it in a right place and then saying the sentence aloud.
3. Anyone who fails to think of a correct adjective in a series or puts an adjective in
an incorrect position will be dropped out from the game.
For example:
Teacher: The boy folds the flag.
Student 1: The boy folds the Philippine flag.
Student 2: The little boy folds the Philippine flag.
Student 3: The little boy folds the old Philippine flag.
4. The game continues until the sentence sounds awkward in speech.
5. Then, the teacher will have to start with a new sentence with the students
remaining in the game.

2. What are some examples of Adjectives?
3. What are the uses or significance of Adjectives in our daily conversation? in our
writing activities?
4. What will likely to happen to our speeches and actions if we will not use
Adjectives in conversing with other people?
5. How do you think can we utilize the proper use of Adjectives at the right context,
right person and right time?
6. What is the purpose of using strong adjectives in conversations? In write ups?
7. Why do you think we need to know how to arrange Adjectives in their proper
order in a series?
8. What will likely to happen if our Adjectives are not arranged in their proper
order?
9. Can we put as many adjectives as we want in a sentence? Why do you think so or
not? Explain.
10. As a student, is there really a need to have a wide range of Adjectives and any
other parts of speech in your vocabulary? Justify.
