Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. 1. Assessment Report and Instrument
The test has been designed for grade 5 students at Aseela bint Qais School for Basic
Education (5-9). All students in grade 5 took the test. The number of all students from
8 classes was 236 students. The analysis of the test will be for one class which
includes 36 students. The students were informed that the test will be about units 3 &
4.
The test included three parts: Grammar/ Vocabulary/ Writing. The words in the first
part were mainly related to the Growing up unit (unit 4). Students were given five
pictures and they have to choose the name of the pictures and there were three extra
words. The grammar part was to complete sentences with one word only and there
were 5 sentences. The last part, which was writing, included two sections. The first
one, students were required to rewrite two sentences with capital letters and
punctuation marks. The whole test is out of ten; five for vocabulary and grammar and
other 5 for writing.
Part one (vocabulary):
In vocabulary part, students were given five pictures, which had animals and objects
like telephone, and there were words and the students had to choose the correct word
that match each picture. There were three extra words. Most of the students got full
make in this part.
The teachers wanted to develop a test that looks like a final examination where the
words are not new but rather students use them in their speaking and writing; they
also listen to and read the word frequently. For example, the words computer, and
telephone are frequently used.

Part two (grammar):
2. In grammar part, students were given five sentences with missing word and they had
to complete them using one word only. The missing words could be verb, proposition,
and model. Unfortunately, most students did not get full mark in this part and some of
them got zero. Especially in sentence number 4, most student got the verb but not in
the correct tense.

The problem in sentence 4 was that students did not pay attention to the helping word
like (every day) which will help them in knowing in which tense the missing word
will be. Some students wrote; brushed, brushing and brushs. So they knew the
missing word but they did not put it in the correct form.
Part three (writing):
Sectin1:
In section 1, students were given two sentences and they had to rewrite these two
sentences with capital letters and punctuation marks where were required.
During the semester, the teacher always revises when they should use capital letter
and punctuation marks like full stop and question mark, however, many students did
not get the full mark. Most of the students did not write capital letter for the name of
places like Egypt and also they did not write comma between 3 activities.
Sectin2:
In section 2, students were required to write a clear and well- organized e-mail to a
friend (Sara) telling her about what they do after school and they had to write 40
3. words. Most students got full mark. It is important to mention that students practiced
writing e-mail in the class and as a homework so it was easy for them to write. In
addition, before starting the lessons, the teacher always asks the students about their
schedule after school and all the students have the opportunity to talk. Therefore, they
have a clear idea about the topic.
I would like to mention some students’ errors when writing an e-mail. First, they
forgot to write the first three components of the e-mail which are (to, from and
subject). They also forgot to write the time sequences, that they took it in the class,
such as (first, then, next, and finally). Moreover, some students did not use
punctuations.
