ODYSSEY
 It 'a poem of 24 songs that takes its name from its main character. Since then, his
figure has never ceased to inspire poets, musicians and painters, becoming one
of the main symbols of the Western world, its spirit and its culture.
 It told the νοστος (return trip) of Odysseus from Troy to Ithaca, the island of which
is king.

ODYSSEUS MEETS NAUSICAA (book 6)
 After the dramatic landing on the island of the Phaeacians, Odysseus fell asleep.
Nausicaa, it warned in a dream by Athena went with friends to the river bank and,
after washing his clothes, and played ball. With their screams woke Odysseus,
which he covered with a thick branch and went towards women; all fled except
Nausicaa, to which the hero spoke kind words, asking for his help. Nausicaa
manifested a deep sense of hospitality and was ready to help him took him to the
palace.
ODYSSEUS COMES TO THE LAND OF
THE PHAEACIANS
 Odysseus and his mates landed on the island of the Cyclops: giants with only
one eye. They entered into the cave of Polyphemus, because Odysseus was
curious to see him. But the monster turned out not at all hospitable and devoured
some men. Odysseus organized a plan: blinded the giant red-hot with a branch of
olive tree and left with his companions, by binding to the belly of the rams.
THE SUITORS OCCUPY THE PALACE
 The palace of Ithaca was invaded by suitors who wanted to marry Penelope,
Odysseus's wife.
 Odysseus and his son Telemachus and the swineherd Eumaeus the palace
decided to defeat the Suitors. Meanwhile, Penelope, on the advice of Athena,
proposed to the Suitors the arc race: those who had managed to draw the bow
and arrow to pass through the rings of the twelve shields lined up, it would have
been her husband. All the suitors did not make it except Odysseus, with the help
of Telemachus and Eumaeus, he made massacre of the Suitors.
ODYSSEUS AND PENELOPE
 After the massacre of the suitors, Penelope still had doubts about the identity of
Odysseus; to ascertain the truth asked him to reveal the secret that only two of
them they guarded. Had thus confirms that man was indeed Odysseus met him.
The return of Odysseus at home and in their own family was fulfilled.
