This document summarizes the key stages and discoveries in photosynthesis research:
1. Moll's half leaf experiment in the 1700s showed that CO2 is required for photosynthesis.
2. In the 1800s, Priestley, Ingenhousz, and van Niel discovered oxygen evolution and that sunlight and water are essential.
3. In the 1900s, Calvin used radioactive tracers to discover the Calvin cycle, where CO2 is fixed into 3-carbon compounds in chloroplasts, using enzymes like RuBisCO.
4. C4 and CAM pathways were discovered as alternatives to the C3 Calvin cycle that improve efficiency in hot/dry conditions through additional CO2
Photorespiration occurs on hot, dry days when a plant's stomata are closed to prevent water loss. This causes CO2 levels inside the leaf to drop, leading an enzyme to fix O2 instead of CO2, producing toxic byproducts. The plant must convert and transport these byproducts using energy. C4 and CAM plants have evolved pathways to concentrate CO2 and prevent photorespiration. C4 plants fix CO2 into a four-carbon compound in mesophyll cells before it reaches bundle sheath cells. CAM plants fix CO2 into malate at night when stomata are open.
1) Photosynthesis requires light, carbon dioxide, and water. Plants have evolved leaf structures to supply these needs, including vascular bundles to transport water and sugars, and stomates for gas exchange.
2) When stomates close on hot or dry days to conserve water, it leads to build up of oxygen from light reactions and depletion of carbon dioxide for the Calvin cycle, causing inefficiency.
3) The enzyme RuBisCo can bind to either carbon dioxide or oxygen. Binding oxygen leads to photorespiration, which is inefficient and reduces carbon fixation. This provided selection pressure for C3, C4, and CAM photosynthesis adaptations.

photosynthesis, the process by which green plants and certain other organisms transform light energy into chemical energy. During photosynthesis in green plants, light energy is captured and used to convert water, carbon dioxide, and minerals into oxygen and energy-rich organic compounds.
This document summarizes key processes in plant metabolism. It discusses photosynthesis, including the light-dependent and light-independent reactions, as well as C4 and CAM photosynthesis. It also describes cellular respiration, including glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation. Enzymes regulate metabolic activities like anabolism, catabolism, and oxidation-reduction reactions.
The document discusses the process of photosynthesis. It describes the Calvin cycle which uses ATP and NADPH to convert CO2 into sugar. Some key points are that the Calvin cycle occurs in three phases: carbon fixation, reduction, and regeneration. It also discusses alternative mechanisms of carbon fixation that have evolved in hot, arid climates like C4 and CAM plants. These plants have developed ways to concentrate CO2 in their cells to minimize the process of photorespiration and maximize sugar production.
The document discusses respiration in plants. It explains that respiration occurs through diffusion via stomata and lenticels, mainly in the leaves. During photosynthesis, CO2 levels inside the leaf fall and O2 rises, with gases diffusing in and out. At night, only respiration occurs, with O2 levels falling and CO2 rising inside. Aerobic respiration uses oxygen and glucose to produce energy, CO2 and water. Anaerobic respiration can also occur without oxygen, producing ethanol and CO2. Respiration and photosynthesis are reverse processes that use each other's byproducts.

This document discusses cellular respiration in plants. It covers:
1) Respiration is the process by which energy stored in carbohydrates is released through the controlled breakdown of glucose and coupled to ATP synthesis.
2) There are three main stages of respiration - glycolysis, the TCA cycle, and the electron transport chain. Glycolysis occurs in the cytoplasm and partially breaks down glucose, the TCA cycle fully breaks down pyruvate in the mitochondria, and the electron transport chain generates ATP using an proton gradient across mitochondrial membranes.
3) The efficiency of aerobic respiration is around 40% while anaerobic respiration is only around 2% efficient due to the lower ATP yield. A variety of factors like
C3 plants fix carbon through the Calvin cycle by attaching CO2 to RuBP. They lose water through transpiration and photorespiration, which decreases photosynthesis output. C4 plants fix carbon in the cytoplasm before entering the Calvin cycle through PEP carboxylase, preventing photorespiration. They thrive in hot climates. CAM plants fix carbon at night by incorporating CO2 into organic molecules and release it during the day, keeping their stomata closed to minimize water loss.

This document provides an overview of a 12-lesson course on air quality. It outlines the key topics to be covered in each lesson, including the formation of pollutants, measuring air quality, and the impact of pollutants on health. Lesson 7 focuses on where atoms go during chemical reactions and combustion. It explains that atoms are rearranged but not destroyed, and provides examples of chemical equations.
The three main functions of plants are photosynthesis, respiration, and transpiration. Photosynthesis captures light energy to produce sugars, respiration metabolizes sugars to provide energy for growth and processes, and transpiration is the loss of water vapor through leaves which transports minerals and maintains turgor pressure.
Respiration in plants involves the breakdown of organic molecules to release energy. There are two types - external respiration which is the exchange of gases between the plant and environment through stomata, lenticels and general surfaces, and cellular respiration which breaks down food within cells. Cellular respiration can be aerobic, using oxygen to fully oxidize glucose to carbon dioxide and water with a net ATP gain, or anaerobic which incompletely breaks down glucose through fermentation without oxygen. The steps of aerobic respiration include glycolysis, the Krebs cycle in mitochondria, and the electron transport chain which generates the most ATP. Factors like temperature, oxygen levels and substrate type affect the rate of respiration.
This document discusses photosynthesis, the process by which plants use carbon dioxide, water, and light energy to produce glucose and oxygen. It provides the word equation for photosynthesis and explains that plants require light, carbon dioxide, chlorophyll, nitrates, and magnesium to carry out photosynthesis and grow properly. Various experiments are suggested to test the importance of light, carbon dioxide, and chlorophyll by controlling or varying different conditions.
C4 cycle may also be referred as the di-carboxylic acid cycle or the β-carboxylation pathway or Hatch and Slack cycle or cooperative photosynthesis (Karpilov, 1970). For a long time, C3 cycle was considered to be the only photosynthetic pathway for reduction of CO2 into carbohydrates. Kortschak, Hartt and Burr (1965) reported that rapidly photosynthesizing sugarcane leaves produced a 4-C compound like aspartic acid and malic acid as a result of CO2 – fixation.
It was later supported by M. D. Hatch and C. R. Slack (1966) and they reported that a 4-C compound oxaloacetic acid (OAA) is the first stable product in CO2 reduction process. This pathway was first reported in members of family Poaceae like sugarcane, maize, sorghum, etc. (tropical grasses), but later on the other subtropical plant like Atriplex spongiosa (Salt bush), Dititaria samguinolis, Cyperus rotundus, Amaranthus etc. So, the cycle has been reported not only in the members of Graminae but also among certain members of Cyperaceae and certain dicots.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

If the percent of CO2 in the air, and the daily average temperature increase by 25% then: In high temperatures, C3 does best, while octose is much lower, and C4 falls in between. When looking at CO2 levels, it is seen that octose works best with high Cos percentages, while after a 25% increase, C3 ad C4 are about the same. Taking both of these into consideration, C4 is the best of the three types of plants, even though all three are quite close to each other overall
