Examples Of Superpowers In Unbreakable
Many kids were asked when they were little who their hero was. The same kids would answer with
their elders, never with a fictional superhero. A superhero is defined as a benevolent fictional
character with superhuman powers, such as Superman. The argument of the movie, Unbreakable,
directed by M. Night Shyamalan, is whether or not David Dunne has superpowers. Dunne is
considered to have superpowers due to his extreme capability of strength. Dunne has miraculous
strength in situations involving life or death. This is first apparent to viewers when Dunne appears
in the hospital after a high speed train crash. Dunne is shown as the only survivor. It becomes
apparent that he is unusual from this point on. He survived through grace. Ironically,... Show more

He was put into the hospital after almost drowning at a young age. He did not fully drown, but
he almost did drown. Elijah also has the same experience with water. Water is viewed as a
weakness for both the unbreakable David Dunne and the clumsy Elijah Price.By realizing his
own identity, he uncovered Price s villainous acts of terrorism. Price has been looking for Dunne
since his mother first gave him his collector s edition of a comic book. Price argues a valid point
when he says however unreal it may seem, we are connected, you and I. We re on the same
curve, just on opposite ends. After Price falls down the subway stairs on a rainy day and breaks
a magnitude of bones, Dunne s weakness of water is revealed at the school. After he takes Price
s advice, he is seen walking through the rain to help a family. He is seen as a cloaked figure,
trying to preserve his powers. Dunne is then pushed onto a pool cover, of all things. He is
struggling to save himself when the children of the family help pull him out. He is frail at that
point in time. He goes back inside where it s dry and all of his strength is

Photo Essay Review Gursl And Klima
In the Photo Essay Reviews by Zeynep Dervrim Gursel and Alan Klima, one of the main points,
was to point out what Hoffman tended to do in his photo essay, which was show how mining
shaped the bodies of these younger step by step during the workplace. In addition, the authors go on
the defining what a photo essayis, which is defined as collections of images, narrative in which
visual essay elements create themes and dialogues (Gursel et Klima). However, Hoffman lacks
these elements in his photo essay. They point out that Hoffman contradicted his main focus he
claimed he would. The point out what Hoffman is mostly successful, which is the shape and text of
the work. He points out some of evidences from Hoffman talking about work of the diamond...

Then they point out the lack of description could confuse the readers/ viewers, because they don t
know whether to read the images from left to right or vice versa. This analysis is a strong argument,
because it is very important when doing a photo essay to be concise and clear as possible so that
the readers/ viewers would not be confused as to what the writer is trying to convey or show
them. It is also important to show a chronological order. Another strong argument is when they
make note that Hoffman doesn t explicitly mention about race. However, a photo essay as a mode
of Ethnography require gaze. Which implies that physical appearance need to be describe since
the gaze revolved around the bodies. Moreover, the comments on the body scar and how to
differentiate between the body of a workplace and from war. There is no way to differentiate them;
unless they are accompanied by an audio interview. It is true just simply gazing at the body, the scar
cannot convey the information to the gazers. Therefore, a communication needs to occur between
the gazers and participants to get the full story of the person. Overall, they seem to pose questions a
lot, each time they formulate an argument. This is remarkable, because it makes their arguments
stronger. They also compare between the photo essay with other works done by Hoffman or by
different authors. This indicate that he done his literature review and strengthened their

Some people around the world believe that people are naturally born good and some people also

The Queen, 2006 Film Analysis
The Queen
A film directed by Stephen Frears in 2005
Written assignment:
Write an essay (700 1000 words) in which you make a portrait of either Queen Elizabeth or Prime
Minister Tony Blair, based on the way the character is depicted in the film. Your essay should also
include a brief characterization of either Prince Philip or Cherie Blair.
You may use any of the elements of cinematic technique and/or theatrical elements in support of
your portrayal of the characters, using the document Film analysis .

As the pressure grows heavier because of the Queen s absence, she finally decides to go out in
the public and show support. She fears the people see the monarchy radically different than before
Diana s death. When she finally goes out and sees the flowers at Balmoral she realizes that even
though she had badly misunderstood what her people had expected of her, they cherished and
loved her presence.
After her experience at Balmoral, she goes out and makes the long anticipated statement concerning
Diana s death and she shows her people that she cares, maybe not wholeheartedly but she gives
them what they want and shows the compassion that they need. This show just how much the
Queen evolves during the movie and turns out to be a dynamic character, who grows as the story
unfolds, and has a interesting bending character arc. The way Helen Mirren portrays the character
and catches the essence of Elizabeth as a Queen, who isn t condescending, overly arrogant and
stereotypical gives the character immense depth and required strength and even though you doubt it
at times, she turns out to be the protagonist.
Brief characterization of Cherie Blair.
Cherie Blair is a woman who knows what she wants and does not hold back her opinions on any
matter, several times during the film she indicates that a modernization of the monarchy would be

Complementing this social process is the theory elaborated by Hofstede (1980) regarding the
cultural dimensions of respective national culture influencing the behaviours of individual and
group inside organizations. Based initially on four principles later enhanced with a fifth element
detailed as follows, power distance (PDI), individualism/collectivism (IDV), uncertainty
avoidance (UAI), masculinity/femininity (MAS), and long term orientation (LTO). Those have
been studied in a horde of diverse contexts and analysed in a multiplicity of different angles. For
the purpose of this study and to avoid a theoretical dispersion in the realm of this complex and
vast theory only two aspects have been retained to be the central emphasis of the exploration.
Power distance (PDI) and individualism (IDV) were recollected to evaluate their impact on the
process of knowledge transfer (KT) within the cohort of young Chinese people born after 1980.
China possesses a vast territory composed of an extensive range of ethnicities and has been
influenced for centuries by Confucianism and Daoism philosophies. The contact of their immediate
neighbours and foreign nations stepping on their territory has also shaped the societal construction.
Researchers have demonstrated the richness of its cultural dimensions and the complexity to

Essay On Nigga
Nigger. A word formed from the Spanish word niger and negro , meaning black. A word that
was often used as a racial slur and insults against black people. This word has been used in a
derogatory way since the 1800s. It is a term of exclusion and a verbal justification for
discrimination. Nowadays in the 21st century, people use the slang word nigga which stems from
nigger. Over the years there has been some controversy about who should be allowed to say the
slang word nigga. The connection between The Fire This Time and this topic is in Carol
Anderson s excerpt from her book, White Rage, Ronald Reagan s key political strategist, Lee
Atwater says, You start out in 1954 by saying Nigger, nigger, nigger By 1968 you can t say nigger

This topic has always been a question people have asked, there is not completely correct answer.
Even if there was people would still continue using the word. Anyone who saying nigga should
care about if they re allowed to say that word because they should know how the word originated.
The first viewpoint is non black people should not be allowed to say nigga because it s racist. Yes,
black people do say it casually doesn t mean everyone has that same privilege. For example, Sen.
Ben Sasse appeared on HBO s Real Time with Bill Maher to promote his new book, he also
invited Maher to visit Nebraska after they talked about how adults in California still dress up for
Halloween. We d love to have you work in the fields with us, the senator said to Maher. Work in
the fields? Senator, I am a house nigga (Stern). There was a mixture of reactions but Ice Cube was
quick to come onto the show to let his opinion be known.
There s a lot of guys out there who cross the line because they a little too familiar. Guys that, you
know, might have a black girlfriend or two that made them Kool Aid every now and then, and
they think they can cross the line. And they can t. There s nothing that a white person can
accomplish that makes them become Black. Blackness cannot be earned like a Boy Scout badge.
And people who think they have a pass use it only to access the fun and joyful side of Black
culture (Stern).

Analysis Of Online Marketing
Product Information
Since clothing is a basic necessity and it can be sold in many creative ways, I ve decided to
make my product an online clothing store. I plan to sell my apparel online, because majority of
sales in the twenty first century are being done on an internet domain. According to Cira, the
Canadian Internet Registry, by 2019 Canadians will spend approximately nine billion dollars on
online commerce (Cira, 2016). I aim to sell wearables because according Cira, 42% of online
purchases made in 2013 were clothing based (Cira, 2016). I plan on selling this for the target age
of 18 34 because they are the the most fluent in e commerce and they make up the majority of the

promote my merchandise. For example, Apple Music used Kerry Washington, Missy Elliot and
Taraji P. Henson to promote the Apple Music streaming service (Goodman, 2015).This
demonstrates to the audience that because an iconic celebrity is would buy this product that they
themselves as consumer should also buy it, which enacts the basic response of the socio cognitive
theory. Furthermore, I plan to advertise my product is through repetition of advertisements
whether through commercials broadcasted on youtube or television, radio advertisement or pop
up ads on the internet. Repetition is key in advertising because when a person has been exposed
to a certain product multiple times they make associations either good or bad with the product. For
example the name Mcdonald s is now associated with burgers, fries and mcflurries which in some
people has a positive memory. This is because neurons in our brain are separated by synapses, the
ability of transmitting information between synapses is what strengthens the brain and makes brain
function possible, therefore by repetitive experiences we are strengthening our synapses which in
turns allows audiences to remember a product and associate positive memories with it (Rieck,
2016).
Advertising Methods Since my product is an online clothing store I think it s only fitting that

This experiment performed the second step in a multistep synthesis. The reaction carried out was
an oxidation of benzoin to benzil using a recyclable copper catalyst, cupric acetate. The cupric
acetate acted as an electron acceptor in a redox type reaction. The benzoin donated an electron to
cupric acetate and formed the Cu+ ion while becoming a benzoin radical cation. The benzoin
radical cation lost a hydrogen to the Cu+ ion forming acetic acid. Another redoxcycle between
Cu2+ and the benzoin radical took place, forming a second Cu+ ion and the benzoin cation lost a

Criminal Justice Personal Statement
When I decided to attend law school to pursue my life s mission of working as attorney providing
representation to those who lack adequate representation and have been wrongfully accused or
wrongfully convicted studying law, I compiled a list of qualities that I was seeking in a law school.
These included the ability for me to continue my involvement in Mock Trial/Moot Court hand on
learningexperience, working in a Criminal Defense or Innocence Project clinic, becoming a
member of the law review, and taking courses that focused on criminal procedure and causes of
wrongful convictions. West Virginia Law embodies each and every one of these qualities.
I hopeful during my studies at West Virginia Law that I will have the opportunity to take the Crime

The Pipeline Massacre From North Dakota And The Energy...
The Pipeline Massacre
The Sioux Tribe in North Dakota and The Energy Transfer Partners Company have been in a
disagreement over the pipeline that is supposed to go through the Standing Rock Indian reserve last
month. Sadly, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has approved the construction of the pipeline and
now the Sioux tribe has resorted to chaining themselves to backhoes and tractors to get their
attention. This article shows, showing the issue of constructing a pipeline through an Indian
reserve, what processes will take place if the pipeline is allowed to go through Standing Rock, and
how it will affect the Native Americans if they proceed with building the pipeline through the
Standing Rock reservation.
Understanding that America has made a treaty with the Natives, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
and the Energy Transfer Partners Company must also remember the Natives have the right to their
land and resources just as much as Americans have to theirs. There is a fine line between the two,
and what the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Energy Transfer Partners did was illegal and
tactless. Our constitution and laws has been violated many times throughout the process of
constructing this pipeline. They went through loopholes to get the permits without consulting with
the Natives first. Many times the Americans have failed to take into account that Natives have a
certain way they want to live. It is wrong how we oppressed them with our way of life, especially

Reflection On Negotiation Simulation
The negotiation simulation was a very informative and interesting assignment from beginning to
end. The practical application was unlike anything else we ve been required to complete thus far
in our program. The ability to openly engage in a mock negotiation was very insightful, and
allowed me to further develop an understanding of the intricate underworking s of the personal
interactions and preparations that define how the negotiation unfolds. I enjoyed the insight into the
perspective of the union s side of negotiation, as I typically assume a perspective from
management when considering negotiations and their implications. This allowed me to understand
the viewpoint and strategies accompanying the union s side of the negotiation, which could prove
invaluable to me in the future. During the negotiation process, I learned many important lessons.
Primarily I learned that no matter how straightforward you believe your facts are, there is
multiple ways to interpret statistics and facts, as well as, a plethora of metrics that measure
similar variables. In other words, I learned the importance of being prepared to deal with a variety
of scenarios and opposing bargaining strategies. This came into play during the negotiation of my
article of paid vacations. When negotiating this article, I prepared using primarily the statistics
provided in the excel files. I used the numbers of weeks of vacation in relation to the seniority and

phenomenon in the last few years. The controversy that surrounds downsizing may be better
described as a debate in organizational theory about whether change is adaptive or disruptive. The
issues which establish the outcome of the controversy include why the downsizingis taking affect,
how it is implemented, and what steps are taken to enhance its effects on organizational performance

Management wants a quick cut that protects he company s assets, yet it wants to be gentle and
compassionate to those who are let go. These two objectives are self canceling, and to
accomplish the first requires considerable compromise on the second. Many companies wait
until the day of the lay off to inform its employees. They are concerned about sabotage and
productivity. They seem to think that if they retain the bad news until the last moment that the
employees will leave and the rest will get back to business. However, this method of a lay off is
the least favorable for the employees. If the company gives the employees notice of the cutback in
the workforce, they will have time to plan for the financial problems, look for other work, and
make other necessary arrangements to prepare them for the loss.
It would be in the best interest of the company to give this notice to its workers. Being a survivor
of downsizing can have its own ethical issues. Those who are left after the downsizing has
occurred, may share perceptions about the ethics of the decisions leading up to the dismissal of
those who left. They may experience feelings such as anger, guilt, fear, and even depression.
These feelings could be brought on by having to take up the slack and doing more work. They
could also be asked to learn new tasks and for the same or maybe even less money than before the
downsizing. Asking people to do more

Milton’s Paradise Lost Essay examples
Milton s Paradise Lost has been praised as being the greatest English epic of all time, most
stunningly in its author s depiction of the parents of humanity, Adam and Eve. How Milton chose to
portray the original mother and father has been a focus of much criticism with contemporary
readers. One of the main subjectsof these comments is in reference to Eve, who, according to
many, is a trivial character that is most definitely inferior to her mate. Nonetheless, many do not
recognize that, after the fateful Fall, she becomes a much more evolved character. When Eve is
introduced to the storyline of the epic, her character is shallow and extremely undeveloped, meant
simply for display. She is quite firmly set as being inferior to her mate... Show more content on

He does this because the scene happens in the past and therefore he uses her to discuss it rather
than confusing the reader with a flashback type scene. He also has Eve relate what happened to
prove that Eve must indeed be beautiful if she herself was taken by her looks as she discusses how
she pined with vain desire (IV, 466) for the image of her reflection. In fact, Eve s beauty is
discussed repeatedly. For example, when Satan first sees the human couple, he is overtaken by
Eve s beauty and submissive charms (IV, 498). Milton even goes so far to stress her beauty and
charms as to have her stun Satan himself with it. Actually, as Satan is on his mission to seduce Eve
into eating the apple, her beauty overtakes him.
If chance with nymphlike step fair virgin pass, What pleasing seemed, for her now pleases more,
She most, and in her looks sums all delight; Such pleasure took the Serpent to behold This
flowery plant, the sweet recess of Eve Thus early, thus alone; her heavenly form Angelic, but more
soft and feminine, Her graceful innocence, her every air Of gesture or least action, overawed His

His fierceness of the fierce intent it brought.
That space the Evil One abstracted stood From his own evil, and for the time remained
Stupidly good, of enmity disarmed, Of guile, of hate, of envy, of revenge. (IX, 452 466)

Asian-American Women Stereotypes
As an Asian American woman, I want to see better representation for the Asian community; if
media is supposed to reflect the real world, then there is no excuse for leaving Asians out in
American films. I want to dissect why Asians are still marginalized and stereotyped today when
there is a demand for more diversity in media. In addition, I want to cover the history behind the
stereotyping and whitewashing of Asians in Hollywood and how that still has a negative impact
today. In fact, recent movies have white washed Asian roles in favor of white actors. In May 2015,
Sony released Aloha, where Emma Stone portrayed Allison Ng, a part Chinese Hawaiian fighter
pilot. This blatant erasure is also evident in Dreamworks casting of Scarlett Johansson... Show more

Movies produced in the later half of the twentieth century still suffered from stereotypes set by
films from years ago. In Year of the Dragon (1985), Tracy Tzu, despite being a professional
newscaster, was also portrayed as seductive and mysterious, manhandled and dominated by the
Caucasian hero, Stanley White, as he overpowers her and carries her off to bed like a trophy
(Rajgopal, 2010, p. 149). These stereotypes of Asian women in film feed into the stereotypes of
Asian women offscreen, and being perceived as exotic and submissive contributes to a higher
risk of sexual assault, as if they are somehow asking for it (Rajgopal, 2010). The portrayal of
Asians matched with the progression of history showed America was projecting its fear and
othering Asians through media. If Asians are not portrayed in a stereotypical role, then they are
given no role at all, rendered invisible by Hollywood and the masses. Because the West was not
hugely exposed to the East, the easiest way to generalize Eastern people was to build fictional
characters of an extreme (Wang, 2010, p. 86). Asians were not talked about, and when they were, it
was through caricatures and

America s Rapid Industrialization During The Progressive Era
As America entered the 20th century, the country entered a time period known as the Progressive
Era. This era was one defined by political reform and social activism as well as myriad of
problems arising from America s rapid industrialization. During the Progressive era, America faced
several international, political, and social challenges that would set us on the road to the society in
which we now live. During the Depression of the 1890s, the National Association of Manufacturers
argued that the American economy could only expand with new foreign markets. They wanted

However, over time government corruption became common. Reformers like Teddy Roosevelt in
Washington and Governor Hiram Johnson in California responded to an epidemic of political and
civic corruption by expanding the role of government in regulating the economy and in giving
citizens, for the first time, direct access to the legislative process. The federal income tax and the
direct election of senators, for example, were a part of the Populist program, and Prohibition grew
from a pre‐Civil War anti‐alcohol reform tradition. In addition, muckrakers, reform minded
American journalist who targeted corruption, made Americans aware of the serious failings in
society and built public support for change. ExposГ©s such as Lincoln Steffens The Shame of
the Cities (1904), an attack on municipal corruption, and Ida Tarbell s History of the Standard Oil
Company (1904), which chronicled John D. Rockefeller s ruthless business practices, often first
appeared in the new mass circulation magazines, such as McClure s and Cosmopolitan, and were
later published as books. The muckrakers impact could be powerful, as in the case of Upton
Sinclair s The Jungle (1906), a book whose vivid descriptions of working and sanitary conditions in
Chicago s meatpacking plants led directly to federal laws regulating the industry. Other political
reforms included the direct primary a preliminary

Embodiment In The Veldt
Bradbury utilizes the veldt as an embodiment in the short story, The Veldt, to warn the audience
that excessive admiration and dependence on technology will ultimately lead to physical and
psychological damages on the development of humans. The future that Bradbury constructs around
the Hadley family fully exaggerated the overall influence of technology on the characters daily
life, thus, ending it with a suspenseful scene further aggravated the seriousness of possible
damages done by the nursery room. The early signs of developmental damages are often the result
of excessive permissiveness. Although the nursery room had cost half again as much as the rest of
the house, (Bradbury 8) George and Lydia still bought it for their children. As widely acknowledged
by many critics, technology can be extravagant and redundant in most cases. Yet, the Hadleys
thought it was a necessity because the kids certainly enjoyed the company of privileged technology
that unconditionally spoils them. Therefore, it was no wonder that Peter and Wendy formed a
quick and intensive relationship with the nursery room as its main occupiers. In addition, George
Hadley, similar in view to his children, was [also] filled with admiration for the mechanical
genius who had conceived this room. He even considers it a miracle of efficiency selling for an
absurdly low price, and claims that every home should have one. (9) Both generations in the story

Benefits Of Diversity And Inclusiveness
ObjectiveTo provide you with an opportunity to value and respect diversity and inclusiveness

five examples.
2.How can you respect diversity in all areas of work? Give at least three examples.
3What does the behaviour of someone who respect inclusiveness look like?
4Give three examples of inclusive principles.
1 Ans: The benefits of diversity in the workplace are ;
a)High productivity: In the workplace there are numerous people belonging to different caste,
culture ,sex ,class etc. and each individual has the capacity to offer different views and ideas to a
particular problem or challenge. Thus it increases employee morale and ... Show more content on

e)Equal opportunities: When the workforce comprises of a diverse group then the workplace
becomes a place where every individual is valued and appreciated. Understanding , appreciating
and valuing all staffs members different sets of skills and abilities and offering fair ,courtesy and
equal opportunities to all individuals becomes the prime motive of the company.
2 Ans: We can respect diversity in all areas of work by recognising the positive value of a diverse
community of staff, affiliates and students. The diverse workforce comprises of an individual
belonging to different background , gender , lifestyles , sexuality, socio economic status , family
composition , personal beliefs and values. Therefore respecting diversity is about trust ,honesty ,
acknowledgement, and respect for one another personal beliefs and values.
For example;
1)Children and families may suffer if their identity, culture and language are ignored. In a classroom
if the black are ignored and the white are respected then this results in clashes among the black
society and white society. So the teacher must maintain equality among all the students in the class
and give them the opportunity to reflect in the society.
2)In some of the Asian country, especially in a patriarchal family system

Rhetorical Analysis of Speeches in to Kill a Mockingbird,...
We should study spoken language as it is truly unique and we can see the effect and beauty of
spoken language in works of great orators and writers. Spoken language is truly an art, which
involves many techniques to perfect and master it. One of the techniques is rhetoric. Rhetoric is
the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing. The ancient Greeks first developed public
speaking. Under Roman, influence public speaking developed further. This was heavily under the
influence of Cicero and Aristotle. The speeches I have chosen to study are the closing speech of
Atticus Fitch in the novel to Kill a Mockingbird and the Battle of Falkirkby William Wallacein the

This is done in order to engender pity and sympathy towards Tom Robinson in the courtroom and
thus motivate the jury to return an innocent verdict.
Atticus uses a combination of convincing and logical evidence, but is also very passionate as he
is not doing this as a lip service. He was doing this, as he could not live with himself if he did not
do his best to defend Tom Robinson despite the chances of winning the court case. The use of
emotive language and well reasoned arguments makes the case more persuasive and plausible.
Atticus is rather astute in showing compassion for Mayella, this shows honesty and integrity in his
character therefore the jury is more inclined to believe him over the witnesses. Atticus makes a
direct plea to the jury but he does this on a personal level. Atticus pauses to create more impact as it
is dramatically effective as it focuses our attention to the truth. Atticus throws the burden of blame
on Mayella making her culpable of the crime that happened and not his client. He uses repetition to
emphasise his case and evidence. Atticus s tone becomes increasing aggressive and
uncompromising however, he remains courteous and dignified throughout. Atticus highlights to the
jury the sheer arrogance of the witnesses of the state who believed their word would not be
questioned over a black man. Atticus shouted TEMERITY as he had become so frustrated. This is
the only point in the speech where

The Role Of God In Frankenstein
The novel Frankenstein was written during the youth of Mary Shelley, a progressive woman who
unlike many of her time, was educated and a personal sense of freedom. Her ability to make her
own choices and her close experiences with death are reflected in this dark story of Victor
Frankenstein and his horrific creation. Much of the conflicts between Victor and his creature are
inspired by the complex relationship between Godand his human creations from Paradise Lost.
However, by making the creator of the being a mortal, Mary Shelley challenges the reader to
question what it is to be human and criticizes the role of god in the Romantic Era.
Although Victor s invention in Shelley s novel is science fiction, the narratives of the characters
and their experiences are believed to be autobiographical. Specifically, the abandonment and
continual rejection from his creator the Creation experienced is thought to mirror what occurred
in Mary s life. One of these autobiographical links is believed to be reflected in Shelley s
relationship with God. The relationship between Victor and his creation can be seen of one
reflecting the one of God and his human creation. Like God, Victor is the creator of a live creature
that is brought back from the dead, and can create a new species of living creatures. Accordingly,
the Creature, as a representation of man, although born in innocence is shown misery and becomes
bitter and evil. Just as how God rejects the initial establishment of humanity by

Angela s Ashes: A Memoir
People go through many hardships throughout their lives, and the book Angel s Ashes by Frank
McCourt is the perfect example of how one can overcome.
Frank faced many antagonists throughout his life. One of his antagonist was his Aunt Aggie. She is
always looking down on Angela and her family. After Angela had to be rushed to the hospital the
children had to stay with her, then she looked at the baby and said Jesus above, that baby is a
disgrace (McCourt 241). She also didn t want to push the pram through the town because she
was embarrassed to be seen with it. She passed the remark saying `tis a disgraceful looking
object she d be ashamed to put a mangy dog in (McCourt 241). Sometime she would antagonize
the children by telling them that she can t stand to see them. One day in question, she hit Malachy

America s Growing Coffee Since Colonial Times
Rwandans have been growing coffee since colonial times, but until 1999 the product was classed
below Grade C, making it unsalable on the global markets.[1][2] The farmers did not have the
means to wash and prepare their coffee cherries to specifications in a timely manner. Buyers paid
US$0.33 per kilogram, a price that kept the farmers poor.[3]
In 1999, 220 coffee growers formed an association in the Maraba district (part of the former Butare
Province) to tackle this problem. Many of these farmers had lost family members during the 1994
genocide, while others had husbands in prison, accused of participating in the killings and due to
face trial in the traditional gacaca courts.[4] They named the association Abahuzamugambi, a

PEARL started working with Abahuzamugambi in February 2001 to improve the coffee quality to
standards required by the specialty coffee market in the United States.[5]
The coffee farmers of Maraba first needed a washing station to remove sugar from the coating of
the coffee bean, under the skin. If this sugar is not removed within 12 hours of picking, the flavour
of the coffee is impaired.[6] They built the first station in July 2001 in the Cyarumbo sector, close
to the main road, with funding from UNR, the Office des Cultures Industrielles du Rwanda (OCIR
CafГ©), ACDI/VOCA, and the Institut des Sciences Agronomiques du Rwanda (ISAR). The
opening was late in the harvest season, so only 200 kilograms (441 lb) of that year s harvest were
suitable for washing. However, the results were reasonably good, and the station was upgraded to
allow more coffee to be processed in 2002. To bring mineral water from Mount Huye to the
upgraded station, ACDI/VOCA helped fund a pipeline, which opened in March 2002.[5]
A new certification system was introduced for the 2002 harvest to ensure that beans brought to the
station were of suitable quality. Around half of the Abahuzamugambi membership attained the
certification, which allowed the cooperative to look for serious buyers in the specialty markets of
Europe and North America.[5]

Events That Have Changed America Essay
Abraham Lincoln had it right when he said, My dream is of a place and time where America
will once again be seen as the last best hope of earth. From the time of Abraham Lincoln until
now, America has endured so much, but is still hopeful. Throughout history, there have been
many events that have changed America, such as, natural disasters, the Civil Rights movement,
and multiple terrorist attacks; having endured all of which gives people hope for a brighter
future. Completely out of human control, natural disasters take their toll on people by
destroying properties and crops, as well as killing people. There have been many tornadoes in
the past, because of these events there are now better warning systems and rebuilding programs.
After hurricanes, many people open up their homes for people in need. There are also many large
scale refugee centers that help people that have lost everything due to a hurricane. Adversity
brings out a kindness and generosity that is not always present until a storm wakes people up to
the needs of others. A man made storm can also bring an awaking to American society. The Civil
Rights Movement took place from 1954 1968. The goal of the Civil Rights Movement was to

Persuasive Essay On Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is one of the cleanest sources of renewable energy, unlike some other sources
of renewable energy, geothermal energy is contained within a relatively small area, and doesn t
affect local wildlife, it also doesn t produce large amounts of toxic waste, and is nowhere near as
controversial as nuclear power. Unfortunately geothermal energyisn t used nearly as much as many
of the other types of renewable energy, in fact, there are only 12 operating geothermal powerplants
in the US, a relatively small number compared to the 557 coal power plants that currently supply
the United States with its second largest source of power. Yet while the fields of solar and wind
power seem to be growing exponentially, geothermal energy remains relatively small.
Sadly the problem with geothermal energy isn t one that can be easily changed. The reason
geothermal power plants are so few and and far between is the overly specific circumstances that
are needed to harness the underground heat; geothermal power plants require hydrological sites
with naturally high temperatures of around 150 to 370, in the form of wells, hot water is then
pumped out of these wells is then pumped out of these wells, into one of three different systems,
dry steam, dry steam, or binary cycle. Dry steam is the simplest, but also the hardest to find. A dry
steam system will pump hot water out of the earth in the form of steam, since the water is already a
gas, it can be injected straight into the turbine

Chemical weapons and their use is one of the most important issues facing the world today. Not

yet another year it would have indeed been called the First Chemical War (A Short History of
Chemical Weapons 21). Before such weapons, soldiers had a better chance of staying alive if they
were skilled enough.
Following the war, most countries decided that these types of weapons would only be used in
special circumstances and not as a main stream military weapon. World War II was a prime
example when hardly any chemical weapons were used at all. Although that was the case, both
sides still had the ability to release very large amounts of many different chemical weapons. After
World War II, the use of chemical weapons by our military was dropped.
Most chemical weapons lead to tragedies, not only to humans but also the natural environment.
Chemical weapons do not only affect human population but they also effect animals and plants.
They can also lead to contamination of water and crops in and around the areas of their use. In
some respects they are quite similar to

Children With Asd ( Autism Spectrum Disorder )
Summary:
Parron and colleagues conducted a study where children with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) were
asked to recognise biological motion through the use of PLDs (point light displays). They aimed to
find whether high functioning children with autism showed the same specific problem with
perceiving emotional material in PLDs in comparison to typically developing children. Secondly,
they wanted to explore the degree performance on these tasks and whether it is comparable to high
functioning adults with ASD. The use of PLDs depicted different motions depending on the four
conditions which included, a person s actions, subjective states, emotional condition and everyday
objects. Participants were asked to describe the PLD as accurately as ... Show more content on

Additionally, autistic children seem to have difficulty in recognising bodily gestures and context on
an emotional level, yet seem to compare similarly to typically developing children on recognising
simple actions (Hubert et al, 2007). ASD consists of various mental disorders such as autism,
Asperger s syndrome, and childhood disintegrative disorder (DSM IV). Autism is undeniably a
part of ASD, defined as a triad of impairments, it consists of specific deficits which may be more
susceptible in recognising certain types of motion (Wing and Gould in 1979 as cited in Mitchell
Fenja, 2013). As Parron et al hypothesised to find differences in autistic children, the findings are
more generalised to ASD rather than autism thus reducing the internal validity of the findings.
Gepner and Mestre in 2002 found those with autism showed less postural reactivity in comparison
to those with Asperger s syndrome whom showed increased postural activity (as cited in Greffou et
al, 2011). This suggests, regardless of the subcategories within ASD, there are variations amongst
the specific mental disorders, which affects the internal validity of this study.
The use of PLD is prominent in studies which have undeniably influenced Parron et als research,
particularly when measuring recognition of biological motion (Moore, Hobson Lee, 1997 as cited
in Parron et al,

Marketing Strategy Of Virgin Mobile
I.Problem Statement
Virgin Mobile needs not only an effective but profitable pricing strategy that will set the company
apart from the competition. With goals to have 1 million total subscribers by the end of the first
year and 3 million by year 4, Virgin Mobile has some high expectations with a limited budget. As a
company, Virgin Mobile wants to implement a pricingstrategy that will attract and retain
customers, especially in a target market that has been underserved in the past.
II.Strategic Situation Facing Management in the Case
The market Virgin Mobile is trying to target is millennials, aging between 15 and 29. As of now, the
U.S. has the lowest penetration in the mobile industry within this age group, with a high growth rate

Current marketing strategies include a strong focus toward the youth market, and where they
spend most of their time. Advertisements will be aired on MTV, and products will be sold in
places like Target and Best Buy. These are all smart tactics to get the product in front of the target
market. Trends in the market include the growing number of people within the 15 29 age range.
Also, phones are being used for much more than just calling, other functions like texting and music
playing capabilities have dominated much of a user s data usage. As for market characteristics, the
mobile industry has reached almost 50% penetration with about 130 million subscribers, and
reaching its maturity. The cost structure has been very confusing for consumers, with hidden fees,
overcharges, and lacks to reward users who do not use their plans to the max. And finally, channels
include all service provider stores and retail consumer stores, for example, Target, Walmart, and
Best Buy.
III.Strategic Alternatives Available to the Firm
There are three options to price the new Virgin Mobile line in the US. The first option involves
setting prices at the same level as the competition. The benefit of this option is the ease of
implementation, but the drawback is the lack of differentiation. Virgin Mobile will not be setting
itself apart from other companies, by

Maya Angelou Eulogy For Coretta Scott King Rhetorical...
Born of Flesh and Destined to Become Iron: Analyzing Rhetorical Moves in Maya Angelou s
Eulogy for Coretta Scott King When Coretta Scott King, civil rights activist and wife of Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr., died in 2006, her friend, author and activist Maya Angelou, eulogized
her. In her eulogy, Angelou employs anaphora, personal anecdotes, and connotative diction in
order to strengthen her pathos and memorialize and celebrate Mrs. King s long and illustrious
life. Throughout the eulogy, Angelou utilizes anaphora to emphasize Mrs. King s beliefs and
commitments to various important humanitarian causes. The audience, in turn, feels a more
profound grief for her death as result. For instance, in the second paragraph, Angelou writes, She
believed religiously in non violent protest. She believed it could heal a nation mired in a history
of slavery and all its excesses. She believed non violent protest religiously could lift up a nation
rife with racial prejudices and racial bias (Angelou). Repeating of the phrase, She believed gives
the passage a rhythmic feel that suggests the reader/listener to reflect on the importance of Mrs.
King s views and fully comprehend them as important and those of a caring and understanding
Christian woman. She additionally expands on this while on the topic of what Mrs. King cared
about: She loved her church...loved and adored her husband and her children...cherished her
race...cherished women...cared for the conditions of human beings, of native Americans
and...Latinos and Asian Americans...cared for gay and straight people Reiteration of verbs such
as cared, loved, and cherished function to force the audience to listen to what Mrs. King loved
and causes she found significant and urgent. Listeners then begins to view Mrs. King as a
compassionate person; they feel mournful that the world has lost such a kindhearted woman.
Likewise, Angelou applies the idea of the worldwide loss of Mrs. King to her advantage as she
tells the audience, I stand here today for her family which is my family and for my family and all
the families in the world who would want to be here, but could not be here. The concept of Mrs.
King surrounded by adoring loved ones echoes through Angelou s

John Christopher Dep Essay
As we have discussed in class, star persona is when an actor or actress have been categorized into
specific roles because of previous similar characters they chose to perform as in multiple movies,
skits, and or television series. Obviously, as a new comer into the Hollywood acting business
coming from Kentucky with his wife, John Christopher Depp had the power to become anyone
he wanted to be, and even now he has the power to try to be the person he might not want to be,
but need to be for the better sake of his career. Starting off his career with such a strong force
really allowed Depp to be launched further into the television and filmindustry. As stated in IMDb,
Depp starred in a low budget horror film, The Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), roughly around
$1,800,000. And in 1987, Depp went onto the hit television show 21 Jump Street to replace Jeff

Computer Storage History
Computers are amazing. They allow us to play games, take notes, watch movies, and even design
buildings. In order to do these things we need a way to access it in the form of computer storage.
Computer storage is a fundamental component of a computer, it allows us to save and load things.
Storage is space in a computerwhere data is to be processed and instructions required for
processing are stored. There are two units of memory which is primary storage and secondary
storage. Primary storage is the immediate access store where programs are located while they are
running. Secondary storage is used to hold data that is not currently being executed. There are
several different types of memory that our computer uses such as registers, cache, and tertiary
storage. For the purpose of this essay, we will go over the history or memory. We will focus on
the memories past, where it started and the early advancements. We will also talk about memories
present, and how it is used today. Lastly, we will go over the future of memory and how memory is
advancing.
First, we will talk about the memory s past how it started, what are some things that got us to
where we are today. Memory started off all the way back to the ancient Egyptians where they
would record hieroglyphs. When it came to computers, storage started off as more of a physical
object than digital. Memory was in the form of paper with holes punched in it to store information
called punched cards. The computer would read the

John of Gaunt was born in 1340 during a time of great strife, to King Edward III of England and

of Wales, and introduced into military life quite early (Walker). He was brought up as a prince

nobility, besides his multiple titles, was his investiture as a knight of the Garter in April 1361

His marriage had granted him considerable amounts of land, and he inherited the prestigious title
Duke of Lancaster when his father in law died (Walker). Blanche of Lancaster died in 1369
(Buescher), leaving Gaunt to marry his second wife, Constance of Castile. She was the daughter
of King Pedro of Spain, making her a princess in her own right. Upon their marriage, Gaunt
became King of Castile and Leon (Buescher). After these two marriages, Gaunt found himself
even more rich and powerful. After recognizing the failing health of his father, the king, and his
brother, the Prince of Wales, he was made the king s captain and lieutenant (Marks). After his
father and brother died, his 11 year old nephew, Richard, took the throne of England (Marks).
Through this, he again had immense power and strength behind the crown. After his son deposed
Richard II, John became even more powerful, now the father of the King of England. He proved
to be an excellent military and political force, acting as a king behind the scenes , particularly for
his young nephew Richard II. However, during the English Peasant s Revolt in 1381, John of
Gaunt lost some favor with the English people and his nephew. Gaunt is generally regarded as the

By the time she had graduated high school, she and her band had already released two singles
both produced by Richard Perry. Janis Siegel says, At that time, I was exclusively listening to pop
and folk music. When Motown became popular, I fell head over heels for it [ ]. In high school and
college though, she said John Coltrane was her musical idol for jazz. After the bandThe Young
Generation had graduated high school, they transitioned to becoming an acoustic folk type of
band. They then renamed themselves as Laurel Sanyon. Then as Janis Siegel attended college for
a couple of years, she studied nursing. But she quit and decided to keep all her attention on the
band Laurel Sanyon. At a party one time, Tim Hauser who was a taxi driver, met Janis and asked

The Validity Of King Lear
King Lear is considered by many scholars as one of the most influential plays that William
Shakespeare wrote, and while people around the world praise his style of writing, many pieces
and quotes are a subject of debates whose purpose is to interpret their meaning and to apply
those circumstances to the way we see the world now. The lines given in the prompt are an
example of how Lear viewed the relationship between justice and wealth, a topic in which my
personal opinion is similar to how Lear thinks about this subject and I intend to prove my point
with substantial examples related with it. Due to the fact that this play is set in Medieval Europe
where feudalistic systems and kingdoms were rampant, it is no wonder that King Lear sincerely
talks about how rich people can hide their vices and sins because of their social status, while rags
do not have anything to hide their obsessions with, a situation that creates a difference in how
justice is applied to an individual because of its socio economic status. Through metaphors, Lear
establishes a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sticks and Stones
Freedom of Speech is possibly the most respected American ideal. Envied by citizens of
countries where self expression is a right of some and stricken from others, we uphold this
concept with defensive pride. However, we must ask ourselves if this freedom can ever go too
far. When does lenience turn into naivety? If speech is abused so freely that it enslaves the minds
of another should it become a privilege, rather than a right? In his essay On Racist Speech ,
Charles R. Lawrence III argues for limitations on Freedom of Speechas described in the First
Amendment to prevent only the most heinous racial remarks. While I understand why many
Americans initially find limiting freedom of speech contradictory to the concept of our free states,...

Some citizens opposed a restriction on speech simply because they feel it is not a complete
upholding of American law. However, we must decide whether the restriction of free speech for
protection is entirely acceptable or not at all because responses are often inherently hypocritical.
While opposition will often argue that racial comments cause no harm and are a right of the First
Amendment, the same people may argue for restrictions of free speech in other circumstances. It
is likely that the majority of people oppose allowing pedophiles the right to express their sexual
feelings to a child over the internet, which is already a legally enforced restriction on freedom of
speech. Although there may be no physical contact between the child and the pedophile, it is
important to parents that their children are protected from the possibility of such a threat as well as
any emotional distress caused by inappropriate comments. Further examples are found in
government views on sexism in the workplace. How much can we restrict the class of people we
defend before our laws become just as prejudice as the injustice they attempt to cease? Lawrence
reminds us that the Supreme Court... held that sexual harassment that creates a hostile or abusive
work environment violates the ban on sex discrimination in employment of Title VII of the Civil
Rights Act of 1964. (64); the same Title prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color,
religion... and national

Free Will Vs Evil
Free will(Not actual title)
Every has the free will to do good also the free will to commit evil. Everyone has thoughts
constantly flowing through their minds whether it s a good thought or a bad one that has the intent
to harm someone. Most know what s right and will always keep bad thoughts suppressed but some
people just cannot help themselves.
We all have the capacity to commit evil acts but it is the knowing of good from evil is what stops
most from actually acting upon their thoughts. But their are many times the perspective of an evil
act can change from person to person with different boundaries. Those who commit atrocities in
society are looked down by others who want to make those who commit horrific look like monsters

JOHN COLTRANE S AND MILES DAVIS INFLUENCE ON JAZZ
Introduction
In the 1960s, numerous jazz musical performers, for example, Ornette, Sun, Mingus, and Dolphy,
extended the limits of their music in terms of organization, rhythm, congruity, beat, and
composition. They separated customary traditional methods and changed to newer techniques that
were not heard of before. They also improved the intensity and brought more prominent freedoms
concerning the length of time, substance, and structure of performances. The subsequent music was
given numerous names: free jazz, vanguard, the new thing. Avant Garde jazz was one of the result
of these diversification of jazz from the traditional forms with John Coltrane playing a major role
for its inception.
John Coltrane was an incomparable jazz artist of the late 20th century whose move from dedicated
traditionalist to drastic creator of new forms made him a prominent stylist in jazz (Deveaux
Giddins, n.d.). He was born in September 23, 1926 in Hamlet, North ... Show more content on

The introduction of the rock aspect into jazz captured the attention of every audience. As a result,
Davis impact on jazz fusion came to light in the 1970 s through his double jazz album bitches brew
which was released in April by Columbia records (Griffin Washington, 2013). In the album, Davis
experimented with electric musical instruments such as the electric piano and guitar in addition to
the saxophone and the trumpet. This was a result of his rejection of the traditional jazz rhythms in

Jacqueline Wilson Is The Most Important Moment In Life
Life is nothing without ups and downs. They make it abundantly rich. While growing up in the
United Kingdom and then moving to Canada, I encountered many problems that shaped me into
the beautiful young woman I am today. With the help of my family, peers, and teachers, I was able
to overcome troubling occurrences with ease. Even though all the events taught me something in a
way, three of them in particular stood out to me. Meeting Jacqueline Wilson, the lossof my best
friend, and the death of my grandfather were, and always will be, the most important moments in
my life.
Many people in my life come and go, but only a few can provide inspiration I need to become the
best version of myself. One of these people happened to be Jacqueline Wilson, an English writer of
children s literature. Although I have never met her in real life, I have met her in the sense that her
books reveal so much of herself. Her books dealt with many controversial topics, such as
adoption, divorce, and mental illnesses. These were topics I normally brushed aside, but she made
me change my way of thinking. I used to think that I couldn t do anything to help people with
problems like these. After reading her books, however, I realized that it doesn t matter how much
or how little you contribute. She inspired me to help others with problems and mental illnesses and
promoted that small inputs are still significant. She was the one made me believe that I can make a
difference. With her expertise,

  • 2. Examples Of Superpowers In Unbreakable Many kids were asked when they were little who their hero was. The same kids would answer with their elders, never with a fictional superhero. A superhero is defined as a benevolent fictional character with superhuman powers, such as Superman. The argument of the movie, Unbreakable, directed by M. Night Shyamalan, is whether or not David Dunne has superpowers. Dunne is considered to have superpowers due to his extreme capability of strength. Dunne has miraculous strength in situations involving life or death. This is first apparent to viewers when Dunne appears in the hospital after a high speed train crash. Dunne is shown as the only survivor. It becomes apparent that he is unusual from this point on. He survived through grace. Ironically,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was put into the hospital after almost drowning at a young age. He did not fully drown, but he almost did drown. Elijah also has the same experience with water. Water is viewed as a weakness for both the unbreakable David Dunne and the clumsy Elijah Price.By realizing his own identity, he uncovered Price s villainous acts of terrorism. Price has been looking for Dunne since his mother first gave him his collector s edition of a comic book. Price argues a valid point when he says however unreal it may seem, we are connected, you and I. We re on the same curve, just on opposite ends. After Price falls down the subway stairs on a rainy day and breaks a magnitude of bones, Dunne s weakness of water is revealed at the school. After he takes Price s advice, he is seen walking through the rain to help a family. He is seen as a cloaked figure, trying to preserve his powers. Dunne is then pushed onto a pool cover, of all things. He is struggling to save himself when the children of the family help pull him out. He is frail at that point in time. He goes back inside where it s dry and all of his strength is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Photo Essay Review Gursl And Klima In the Photo Essay Reviews by Zeynep Dervrim Gursel and Alan Klima, one of the main points, was to point out what Hoffman tended to do in his photo essay, which was show how mining shaped the bodies of these younger step by step during the workplace. In addition, the authors go on the defining what a photo essayis, which is defined as collections of images, narrative in which visual essay elements create themes and dialogues (Gursel et Klima). However, Hoffman lacks these elements in his photo essay. They point out that Hoffman contradicted his main focus he claimed he would. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then they point out the lack of description could confuse the readers/ viewers, because they don t know whether to read the images from left to right or vice versa. This analysis is a strong argument, because it is very important when doing a photo essay to be concise and clear as possible so that the readers/ viewers would not be confused as to what the writer is trying to convey or show them. It is also important to show a chronological order. Another strong argument is when they make note that Hoffman doesn t explicitly mention about race. However, a photo essay as a mode of Ethnography require gaze. Which implies that physical appearance need to be describe since the gaze revolved around the bodies. Moreover, the comments on the body scar and how to differentiate between the body of a workplace and from war. There is no way to differentiate them; unless they are accompanied by an audio interview. It is true just simply gazing at the body, the scar cannot convey the information to the gazers. Therefore, a communication needs to occur between the gazers and participants to get the full story of the person. Overall, they seem to pose questions a lot, each time they formulate an argument. This is remarkable, because it makes their arguments stronger. They also compare between the photo essay with other works done by Hoffman or by different authors. This indicate that he done his literature review and strengthened their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Furthermore, I plan to advertise my product is through repetition of advertisements whether through commercials broadcasted on youtube or television, radio advertisement or pop up ads on the internet. Repetition is key in advertising because when a person has been exposed to a certain product multiple times they make associations either good or bad with the product. For example the name Mcdonald s is now associated with burgers, fries and mcflurries which in some people has a positive memory. This is because neurons in our brain are separated by synapses, the ability of transmitting information between synapses is what strengthens the brain and makes brain function possible, therefore by repetitive experiences we are strengthening our synapses which in turns allows audiences to remember a product and associate positive memories with it (Rieck, 2016). The Pipeline Massacre The Sioux Tribe in North Dakota and The Energy Transfer Partners Company have been in a disagreement over the pipeline that is supposed to go through the Standing Rock Indian reserve last month. Sadly, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has approved the construction of the pipeline and now the Sioux tribe has resorted to chaining themselves to backhoes and tractors to get their attention. This article shows, showing the issue of constructing a pipeline through an Indian reserve, what processes will take place if the pipeline is allowed to go through Standing Rock, and how it will affect the Native Americans if they proceed with building the pipeline through the Standing Rock reservation. Understanding that America has made a treaty with the Natives, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Energy Transfer Partners Company must also remember the Natives have the right to their land and resources just as much as Americans have to theirs. There is a fine line between the two, and what the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Energy Transfer Partners did was illegal and tactless. Our constitution and laws has been violated many times throughout the process of constructing this pipeline. They went through loopholes to get the permits without consulting with the Natives first. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Management wants a quick cut that protects he company s assets, yet it wants to be gentle and compassionate to those who are let go. These two objectives are self canceling, and to accomplish the first requires considerable compromise on the second. Many companies wait until the day of the lay off to inform its employees. They are concerned about sabotage and productivity. They seem to think that if they retain the bad news until the last moment that the employees will leave and the rest will get back to business. However, this method of a lay off is the least favorable for the employees. If the company gives the employees notice of the cutback in the workforce, they will have time to plan for the financial problems, look for other work, and make other necessary arrangements to prepare them for the loss. It would be in the best interest of the company to give this notice to its workers. Being a survivor of downsizing can have its own ethical issues. Those who are left after the downsizing has occurred, may share perceptions about the ethics of the decisions leading up to the dismissal of those who left. They may experience feelings such as anger, guilt, fear, and even depression. These feelings could be brought on by having to take up the slack and doing more work. They could also be asked to learn new tasks and for the same or maybe even less money than before the downsizing. Asking people to do more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Milton’s Paradise Lost Essay examples Milton s Paradise Lost has been praised as being the greatest English epic of all time, most stunningly in its author s depiction of the parents of humanity, Adam and Eve. How Milton chose to portray the original mother and father has been a focus of much criticism with contemporary readers. One of the main subjectsof these comments is in reference to Eve, who, according to many, is a trivial character that is most definitely inferior to her mate. Nonetheless, many do not recognize that, after the fateful Fall, she becomes a much more evolved character. When Eve is introduced to the storyline of the epic, her character is shallow and extremely undeveloped, meant simply for display. She is quite firmly set as being inferior to her mate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He does this because the scene happens in the past and therefore he uses her to discuss it rather than confusing the reader with a flashback type scene. He also has Eve relate what happened to prove that Eve must indeed be beautiful if she herself was taken by her looks as she discusses how she pined with vain desire (IV, 466) for the image of her reflection. In fact, Eve s beauty is discussed repeatedly. For example, when Satan first sees the human couple, he is overtaken by Eve s beauty and submissive charms (IV, 498). Milton even goes so far to stress her beauty and charms as to have her stun Satan himself with it. Actually, as Satan is on his mission to seduce Eve into eating the apple, her beauty overtakes him. If chance with nymphlike step fair virgin pass, What pleasing seemed, for her now pleases more, She most, and in her looks sums all delight; Such pleasure took the Serpent to behold This flowery plant, the sweet recess of Eve Thus early, thus alone; her heavenly form Angelic, but more soft and feminine, Her graceful innocence, her every air Of gesture or least action, overawed His malice, and with rapine sweet bereaved His fierceness of the fierce intent it brought. That space the Evil One abstracted stood From his own evil, and for the time remained Stupidly good, of enmity disarmed, Of guile, of hate, of envy, of revenge. Asian-American Women Stereotypes As an Asian American woman, I want to see better representation for the Asian community; if media is supposed to reflect the real world, then there is no excuse for leaving Asians out in American films. I want to dissect why Asians are still marginalized and stereotyped today when there is a demand for more diversity in media. In addition, I want to cover the history behind the stereotyping and whitewashing of Asians in Hollywood and how that still has a negative impact today. In fact, recent movies have white washed Asian roles in favor of white actors. In May 2015, Sony released Aloha, where Emma Stone portrayed Allison Ng, a part Chinese Hawaiian fighter pilot. Movies produced in the later half of the twentieth century still suffered from stereotypes set by films from years ago. In Year of the Dragon (1985), Tracy Tzu, despite being a professional newscaster, was also portrayed as seductive and mysterious, manhandled and dominated by the Caucasian hero, Stanley White, as he overpowers her and carries her off to bed like a trophy (Rajgopal, 2010, p. 149). These stereotypes of Asian women in film feed into the stereotypes of Asian women offscreen, and being perceived as exotic and submissive contributes to a higher risk of sexual assault, as if they are somehow asking for it (Rajgopal, 2010). The portrayal of Asians matched with the progression of history showed America was projecting its fear and othering Asians through media. If Asians are not portrayed in a stereotypical role, then they are given no role at all, rendered invisible by Hollywood and the masses. Because the West was not hugely exposed to the East, the easiest way to generalize Eastern people was to build fictional characters of an extreme (Wang, 2010, p. 86). Reformers like Teddy Roosevelt in Washington and Governor Hiram Johnson in California responded to an epidemic of political and civic corruption by expanding the role of government in regulating the economy and in giving citizens, for the first time, direct access to the legislative process. The federal income tax and the direct election of senators, for example, were a part of the Populist program, and Prohibition grew from a pre‐Civil War anti‐alcohol reform tradition. In addition, muckrakers, reform minded American journalist who targeted corruption, made Americans aware of the serious failings in society and built public support for change. Embodiment In The Veldt Bradbury utilizes the veldt as an embodiment in the short story, The Veldt, to warn the audience that excessive admiration and dependence on technology will ultimately lead to physical and psychological damages on the development of humans. The future that Bradbury constructs around the Hadley family fully exaggerated the overall influence of technology on the characters daily life, thus, ending it with a suspenseful scene further aggravated the seriousness of possible damages done by the nursery room. The early signs of developmental damages are often the result of excessive permissiveness. Although the nursery room had cost half again as much as the rest of the house, (Bradbury 8) George and Lydia still bought it for their children. As widely acknowledged by many critics, technology can be extravagant and redundant in most cases. Yet, the Hadleys thought it was a necessity because the kids certainly enjoyed the company of privileged technology that unconditionally spoils them. Therefore, it was no wonder that Peter and Wendy formed a quick and intensive relationship with the nursery room as its main occupiers. In addition, George Hadley, similar in view to his children, was [also] filled with admiration for the mechanical genius who had conceived this room. Atticus uses a combination of convincing and logical evidence, but is also very passionate as he is not doing this as a lip service. The use of emotive language and well reasoned arguments makes the case more persuasive and plausible. • 25. The Role Of God In Frankenstein The novel Frankenstein was written during the youth of Mary Shelley, a progressive woman who unlike many of her time, was educated and a personal sense of freedom. Her ability to make her own choices and her close experiences with death are reflected in this dark story of Victor Frankenstein and his horrific creation. Much of the conflicts between Victor and his creature are inspired by the complex relationship between Godand his human creations from Paradise Lost. However, by making the creator of the being a mortal, Mary Shelley challenges the reader to question what it is to be human and criticizes the role of god in the Romantic Era. Although Victor s invention in Shelley s novel is science fiction, the narratives of the characters and their experiences are believed to be autobiographical. Specifically, the abandonment and continual rejection from his creator the Creation experienced is thought to mirror what occurred in Mary s life. One of these autobiographical links is believed to be reflected in Shelley s relationship with God. The relationship between Victor and his creation can be seen of one reflecting the one of God and his human creation. Like God, Victor is the creator of a live creature that is brought back from the dead, and can create a new species of living creatures. Accordingly, the Creature, as a representation of man, although born in innocence is shown misery and becomes bitter and evil. Just as how God rejects the initial establishment of humanity by ... Buyers paid US$0.33 per kilogram, a price that kept the farmers poor.[3] In 1999, 220 coffee growers formed an association in the Maraba district (part of the former Butare Province) to tackle this problem. PEARL started working with Abahuzamugambi in February 2001 to improve the coffee quality to standards required by the specialty coffee market in the United States.[5] The coffee farmers of Maraba first needed a washing station to remove sugar from the coating of the coffee bean, under the skin. If this sugar is not removed within 12 hours of picking, the flavour of the coffee is impaired.[6] They built the first station in July 2001 in the Cyarumbo sector, close to the main road, with funding from UNR, the Office des Cultures Industrielles du Rwanda (OCIR CafГ©), ACDI/VOCA, and the Institut des Sciences Agronomiques du Rwanda (ISAR). The opening was late in the harvest season, so only 200 kilograms (441 lb) of that year s harvest were suitable for washing. To bring mineral water from Mount Huye to the upgraded station, ACDI/VOCA helped fund a pipeline, which opened in March 2002.[5] A new certification system was introduced for the 2002 harvest to ensure that beans brought to the station were of suitable quality. Around half of the Abahuzamugambi membership attained the certification, which allowed the cooperative to look for serious buyers in the specialty markets of Europe and North America.[5] International acceptance[edit] The Cyarumba washing station PEARL brought a ... Unfortunately geothermal energyisn t used nearly as much as many of the other types of renewable energy, in fact, there are only 12 operating geothermal powerplants in the US, a relatively small number compared to the 557 coal power plants that currently supply the United States with its second largest source of power. Yet while the fields of solar and wind power seem to be growing exponentially, geothermal energy remains relatively small. Sadly the problem with geothermal energy isn t one that can be easily changed. The reason geothermal power plants are so few and and far between is the overly specific circumstances that are needed to harness the underground heat; geothermal power plants require hydrological sites with naturally high temperatures of around 150 to 370, in the form of wells, hot water is then pumped out of these wells is then pumped out of these wells, into one of three different systems, dry steam, dry steam, or binary cycle. Not only is the use of such weapons highly controversial, but also the very idea of such weapons of mass destruction being in the hands of dangerous leaders. Next to nuclear weapons they are the most feared, and the prospect of these weapons not only concerns people, but also frightens them. As a result of these fears, America has entered a new war that could bring devastating effects upon our world. It is a very sensitive topic among many countries, and is out of hand primarily because of the introduction of chemical weapons to the world in the First World War. Many people have the same feelings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example is how they were used on our campus in 1999 and this year. These types of chemicals are not the problem though. Chemical weapons such as mustard gas, sarin, and anthrax are becoming increasingly feared. During the first major use of chemical weapons in World War I, there was a death toll of 1.3 million. These deaths were caused single handedly by chemical weapons, and primarily by mustard gas. Tim Cook stated if the war had continued for yet another year it would have indeed been called the First Chemical War (A Short History of Chemical Weapons 21). Before such weapons, soldiers had a better chance of staying alive if they were skilled enough. Following the war, most countries decided that these types of weapons would only be used in special circumstances and not as a main stream military weapon. World War II was a prime example when hardly any chemical weapons were used at all. Although that was the case, both sides still had the ability to release very large amounts of many different chemical weapons. After World War II, the use of chemical weapons by our military was dropped. Most chemical weapons lead to tragedies, not only to humans but also the natural environment. Chemical weapons do not only affect human population but they also effect animals and plants. They can also lead to contamination of water and crops in and around the areas of their use. Children With Asd ( Autism Spectrum Disorder ) Summary: Parron and colleagues conducted a study where children with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) were asked to recognise biological motion through the use of PLDs (point light displays). They aimed to find whether high functioning children with autism showed the same specific problem with perceiving emotional material in PLDs in comparison to typically developing children. Secondly, they wanted to explore the degree performance on these tasks and whether it is comparable to high functioning adults with ASD. The use of PLDs depicted different motions depending on the four conditions which included, a person s actions, subjective states, emotional condition and everyday objects. Additionally, autistic children seem to have difficulty in recognising bodily gestures and context on an emotional level, yet seem to compare similarly to typically developing children on recognising simple actions (Hubert et al, 2007). ASD consists of various mental disorders such as autism, Asperger s syndrome, and childhood disintegrative disorder (DSM IV). Autism is undeniably a part of ASD, defined as a triad of impairments, it consists of specific deficits which may be more susceptible in recognising certain types of motion (Wing and Gould in 1979 as cited in Mitchell Fenja, 2013). As Parron et al hypothesised to find differences in autistic children, the findings are more generalised to ASD rather than autism thus reducing the internal validity of the findings. Gepner and Mestre in 2002 found those with autism showed less postural reactivity in comparison to those with Asperger s syndrome whom showed increased postural activity (as cited in Greffou et al, 2011). This suggests, regardless of the subcategories within ASD, there are variations amongst the specific mental disorders, which affects the internal validity of this study. The use of PLD is prominent in studies which have undeniably influenced Parron et als research, particularly when measuring recognition of biological motion (Moore, Hobson Lee, 1997 as cited in Parron et al, ... Born of Flesh and Destined to Become Iron: Analyzing Rhetorical Moves in Maya Angelou s Eulogy for Coretta Scott King When Coretta Scott King, civil rights activist and wife of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., died in 2006, her friend, author and activist Maya Angelou, eulogized her. In her eulogy, Angelou employs anaphora, personal anecdotes, and connotative diction in order to strengthen her pathos and memorialize and celebrate Mrs. King s long and illustrious life. Throughout the eulogy, Angelou utilizes anaphora to emphasize Mrs. King s beliefs and commitments to various important humanitarian causes. The audience, in turn, feels a more profound grief for her death as result. For instance, in the second paragraph, Angelou writes, She believed religiously in non violent protest. She believed it could heal a nation mired in a history of slavery and all its excesses. She believed non violent protest religiously could lift up a nation rife with racial prejudices and racial bias (Angelou). Repeating of the phrase, She believed gives the passage a rhythmic feel that suggests the reader/listener to reflect on the importance of Mrs. King s views and fully comprehend them as important and those of a caring and understanding Christian woman. She additionally expands on this while on the topic of what Mrs. King cared about: She loved her church...loved and adored her husband and her children...cherished her race...cherished women...cared for the conditions of human beings, of native Americans and...Latinos and Asian Americans...cared for gay and straight people Reiteration of verbs such as cared, loved, and cherished function to force the audience to listen to what Mrs. King loved and causes she found significant and urgent. Listeners then begins to view Mrs. King as a compassionate person; they feel mournful that the world has lost such a kindhearted woman. Likewise, Angelou applies the idea of the worldwide loss of Mrs. King to her advantage as she tells the audience, I stand here today for her family which is my family and for my family and all the families in the world who would want to be here, but could not be here. The Validity Of King Lear King Lear is considered by many scholars as one of the most influential plays that William Shakespeare wrote, and while people around the world praise his style of writing, many pieces and quotes are a subject of debates whose purpose is to interpret their meaning and to apply those circumstances to the way we see the world now. The lines given in the prompt are an example of how Lear viewed the relationship between justice and wealth, a topic in which my personal opinion is similar to how Lear thinks about this subject and I intend to prove my point with substantial examples related with it. Due to the fact that this play is set in Medieval Europe where feudalistic systems and kingdoms were rampant, it is no wonder that King Lear sincerely talks about how rich people can hide their vices and sins because of their social status, while rags do not have anything to hide their obsessions with, a situation that creates a difference in how justice is applied to an individual because of its socio economic status. John Davis Influence On Jazz Student s name: Instructor: Institutional affiliation: JOHN COLTRANE S AND MILES DAVIS INFLUENCE ON JAZZ Introduction In the 1960s, numerous jazz musical performers, for example, Ornette, Sun, Mingus, and Dolphy, extended the limits of their music in terms of organization, rhythm, congruity, beat, and composition. They separated customary traditional methods and changed to newer techniques that were not heard of before. They also improved the intensity and brought more prominent freedoms concerning the length of time, substance, and structure of performances. The subsequent music was given numerous names: free jazz, vanguard, the new thing.
