2. Introduction
Columbia Southern University offers an array of event
opportunities where faculty members can discourse topics of
interest, create recommendations for institutional development,
present theories and practices, and travel to Orange Beach to
participate in a two-day seminar with their colleagues. Please
advance the slides to learn more.
3. Faculty Symposium
Throughout the year, the University conducts symposia comprised
of faculty and staff. Symposia are attended by invitation with
faculty members selected from each College within the University
and various departments such as Instructional Design and
Technology, Academic Advising and Student Support Center, and
the Student Success Center. Each symposium considers three to
four dimensions of a particular topic in a problem-solution or
question-answer format. Symposia are highly rewarding
experiences and allow faculty a platform to contribute to the
university in a real and visible way.
4. Faculty Conclave
The University typically hosts multiple Faculty Conclaves on
campus each year. These meetings provide faculty with an
opportunity to experience the culture of the university, as well as
enrich their knowledge of online education and improve their
teaching skills. Conclaves are typically held for two full workdays
and are very rewarding and enriching experiences.
5. Excellence in Higher Education Virtual Conference
Columbia Southern University (CSU) hosts the Excellence in Higher
Education Virtual Conference each year. The conference is virtual
and provides a forum for the presentation of scholarly works,
research, and best practices by CSU faculty and staff. To create a
well-rounded program, keynote speakers and faculty of other
colleges and universities are invited to participate.
6. Faculty Lounge
The Faculty Development Department provides optional sessions
every two weeks via Adobe Connect that cover a wide range of
topics about andragogy, teaching with technology, and best
practices for online teaching and student/faculty engagement. The
Faculty Lounge features informative, stimulating presentations and
conversations to enhance instructional innovation and
effectiveness, to support faculty needs, and to cultivate an
engaged and sustainable academic community. Faculty are invited
to attend these optional sessions via email.
