This document summarizes a study that evaluated the effects of different nitrogen levels on the growth, yield, and quality of BARI Tomato-9. The study tested four nitrogen levels: a control with no nitrogen, 100 kg/ha, 150 kg/ha, and 200 kg/ha. It found that 150 kg/ha of nitrogen resulted in the tallest plants, most leaves and branches per plant, highest number of clusters, flowers and fruits per cluster, largest fruit diameter, highest individual fruit weight, plot yield, yield per hectare, and total soluble solids content. The 150 kg/ha treatment performed best for growth and yield of BARI Tomato-9 compared to the other nitrogen levels tested.

Four cowpea varieties Oloyin, Drum, Zobo and White Mallam , and four levels of nitrogen fertilizer 20, 40, 60 and 80 kg N ha were applied at 2 weeks after planting WAP to the vegetable Amaranth between October 2018 to April 2019. Similarly, application of 60 and 80 kg N ha significantly produced more yield relative to 0 and 40 kg N ha of inorganic fertilizer rates. Generally, higher significant yield p 0.05 was recorded in the second cycle of planting. This study concluded that green manure from Oloyin produced yield of Amaranth us 11.0 47.3 t ha which was similar to the yield obtained from 80 kg N ha 12.13 37.7t ha . The main objective of this study is determine the responses of Bambara groundnut [Vigna subterranea (L). Verdc.] to application methods of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria inoculant and time of sowing after inoculation in Agbani area of Enugu, South East Nigeria. Field trials were conducted at the Teaching and Research Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources management, Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 2015 and 2016 planting season. The experiment was a 2 × 3 factorial trial in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The treatments consisted of two different rhizobacteria inoculant application methods (seed applied method and soil applied method) and three different periods of sowing after inoculation (0 min, 15 mins and 30 mins) in all possible combinations (six treatment The obtained results revealed that Bambara groundnut cultivated on soils fertilized with ten grams of rhizobacteria inoculant per planting hole significantly (p < 0.05) had highest vegetative growth, number of nodules per plant and yield traits in both planting season. The main effect of time of sowing indicated that plants sown 30 minutes after inoculation significantly (p < 0.05) gave the tallest plants and leaf area index per plant in 2015 and 2016 planting season than the other time regime. The interaction effect of rhizobacteria inoculant application methods and time of sowing after inoculation were observed to be significant (p < 0.05) in 2015 and 2016 planting season. The results showed that the plants on soil with combined use of soil applied method of inoculation treatment and 30 minutes after inocualtion before planting significantly (p < 0.05) had the highest vegetative growth, number of nodules per plant and yield parameters than the other interaction effect. The combined use of soil applied method of inoculation treatment and 30 minutes after inocualtion before planting is recommended for the cultivation of Bambara groundnut in Agbani Area South East Nigeria.

The difficulty of manual hoe weeding presents a major challenge to the adoption of conservation agriculture (CA) by smallholder farmers in Zimbabwe. Herbicide use is known to reduce manual hoe weeding requirements during the season while increasing economic returns. Studies to determine the efficacy of herbicides in maize under CA were carried out in Zimbabwe. The treatments evaluated were:(i) manual hoe weeding (ii) paraquat (0.2 kg a.i. ha-1) (iii) glyphosate (1.025 kg a.i ha-1) (iv) atrazine (1.8 kg a.i. ha-1) (v) glyphosate (1.025 kg a.i ha-1) + atrazine (1.8 kg a.i. ha-1) (vi) glyphosate (1.025 kg a.i ha-1) + atrazine (1.8 kg a.i. ha-1) + metolachlor (1.152kg a.i. ha-1). Greater efficacy of weed control was higher in herbicide treated plots compared to hoe weeding alone. Atrazine combined with other herbicides or alone significantly (P<0.05) suppressed Garlinsoga parviflora, Bidens pilosa and other broadleaf weeds that dominated the weed spectrum at study sites. A tank mix of glyphosate + atrazine + metolachlor had significantly higher (P<0.05) maize grain yield than hoe weeding alone. Results showed that herbicides lowered weeding time requirement and were more effective in controlling weeds than manual hoe weeding alone. Farmers are thus likely to enjoy more net economic benefits if they adopt herbicide use as a weed control strategy in CA systems.
A study was carried out on plant density at the experimental field of the Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (IRAD) Nkolbisson, Yaoundé to determine the appropriate spacing to improve rainfed rice production in the bimodal rainfall forest zone of Cameroon. The experiment was conducted during the main cropping seasons of 2017 and 2018. The planting spacing used were 15cm x 15cm, 20cm x 20cm, 25cm x 25cm and 30cm x 30cm giving the plant populations of 444444, 250000, 160,000 and 111,111 plants / ha respectively using two varieties (Nerica 3 and Nerica 8). The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Significant differences were observed in the growth and yield across the years. Treatments were highly significant concerning the number of days to the appearance of the first flower, the number of days to 50% flowering, and the number of days to 50 % maturity. Plants were taller with more tillers and gave higher yields in 2017 than those of 2018. The spacing significantly affected the plant height, number of tillers, and panicle length for both varieties. The interaction of spacing and variety was significant for the number of tillers per m2 and the number of seeds per panicle, however, it was not for the weight of 1000 grains and the percentage of full bales. The yield components determining yield increase were the number of panicles / m2 and the number of seeds/panicles. Nerica 3 variety gave higher yields compared to the Nerica 8, the closer the spacing, the higher the yield. There were a strong significance and positive correlation between yield, number of panicles, and the number of grain per panicle. The spacing that gives the highest number of panicle per m2 was 15 cm X 15 cm and this spacing gave good yield in the region where the study was carried out.

In order to investigate the effect of sowing date on yield and yield components of hemp, this study was conducted
in the field condition during 2012 in a randomized complete block design with three replications and three
sowing date consist of 30 April, 10 May and 20 May as treatments in research station of faculty of agriculture of
Azarbaijan Shahid Madani University. Results showed that maximum plant height, biological yield of plant, seed
number per plant, weight of seeds per plant, yield of seed per hectare was obtained from the second sowing date
and maximum value of harvest index belonged to first date. Maximum 1000 seeds weight and seed oil yield per
plant was observed in the first planting date but there was no significant difference with the second planting date.
Finally, it seems that middle of May is the best time for hemp planting at western agronomic lands of Iran.
Productivity of Soybean on Different AgroecosystemsIJEABJ
This study aims to see the growth and productivity of soybeans in different agroecosystems. The study was conducted on paddy field located in Bumi Setia village, Seputih Mataram sub-district, Central Lampung district, and on dryland located in Mandah village, Natar sub-district, South Lampung district, Lampung Province, Indonesia, from April to July 2015. Soybean varieties grown at each location were Grobogan varieties. The variables observed were crop emergence, plant height at harvest, number of plant harvested, number of pods per plant, empty pods, weight of 100 grains, pod pests and productivity. Data were analyzed by t test. The results showed that soybean productivity in dryland was 64.25% lower than productivity in paddy fields. The low yield of soybean varieties of Grobogan in dryland was caused due to drought factor when forming and filling pods. This can be seen from the decrease of weight of 100 grains of soybean seed in dryland up to 51.82% than in paddy field. The status of Grobogan varieties soybean vigor may change from large seed to medium seed if the water requirement is not optimum during the growing season.

The objective of the study wasto evaluate the performance of improved sweetpotato lines with a view to identify those that may be adaptable with high yielding potential in the study area.The treatments consisted of 16 sweetpotato advanced lines: Centennial, AYT/08/055, TIS8164, TIS87/0087, NRSP12/097, UMUSPO/2, UMOSPO/1, SOLOMON-1, EA/11/022, EA/11/025, EA/11/003, UM/11/015, NRSP/12/095, UM/11/001, UM/11/022, and a local check
(Kantayiidda). These were laid out in a Randomized complete block design with 3 replications. Significant differences were observed in number of roots per plant, number of marketable roots, number of pencil roots, flesh colour, root shape and root yield. Kantayiidda produced significantly (p<0.05) higher root yield (10315kg/Ha) than all other lines. Solomon-1, Umuspo/1, EA/11/022, UM/11/001 and TIS87/0087 were found to be promising among the advanced lines evaluated; thus could relatively compete with Kantayiidda local for adaptation and high root yield in the study area. Microgreens are edible baby plants with huge potential for leafy vegetable production and many consider this plant based functional food as the new “Superfood”. Microgreens have many advantages over sprouts and they help to improve the nutritional value of our diet, with their high content of healthy compounds. During the microgreen cultivation, seeding is usually done as a broadcast or in rows and as the seeding density is difficult to recommend, most growers prefer to seed as thickly as possible to maximize production, but not too thickly because crowding encourages elongated stems which increases the risk of disease. Some growers have noticed the possibility of a “second harvest” of microgreens, just after the majority of tall grown microgreens are carefully harvested from the substrate with very high density of seeds, leaving a certain percentage of ungerminated seeds and sprouts to develop further. The present study investigated the possibility of harvesting more than one microgreen crop from a set of chickpea seeds through the regeneration of shoots after the first and the successive cuts above the lowest nodal portion of the shoots. It also included a study on the growth characteristics of the microgreens after the successive harvests. E. A field experiment was conducted at the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) farm
Mymensingh, Bangladesh during the irrigated ecosystem in December, 2009 to May 2010, with a view to study
the performance of aromatic fine rice under different date of transplanting. The experiment was carried out with
four aromatic fine rice (V1= Chinisagar, V2= Chiniatab, V3= Basmati, V4=Awnless Minicat) and three different
date of transplanting (D1=20 January, D2=5 February, D3=20 February). The experiment was laid out in splitplot
design with three replications assigning four varieties in the main plot and the three different transplanting
dates in the sub plot. Aromatic fine rice and dates of transplanting individually showed significant effect on the
agronomic parameters. Among the aromatic fine rice Awnless Minicat gave the highest yield (3.10 t ha-1
) but
that was at per with those of Basmati (1.77 t ha-1
). Transplantation on 20 January gave the highest grain yield
(2.41 t ha-1 ) which was at per with the transplantation on 5 February (1.99 t ha-1 ).The result revealed that 20 January and 5 February produced highest grain yield by all the variety. In later date of transplanting 20 February produced lower grain yield.
Generally, wheat productivity severely affected due to imbalanced fertilizer application, and on other hand NPB are 100%, 90% and 55% deficient in Pakistani soils as well as K deficiency appears rapidly. Therefore appropriate nutrient management is essentially required to obtain economic wheat yield. A field experiment was carried out at Student’s Experimental Farm, Department of Agronomy, Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam, during 2014-15. The trial was arranged on randomized complete block design, replicated thrice and treatments included: Control (untreated), NPK= 90:60:60 kg ha-1, NPK = 90-30-30 kg ha-1 + B: 1% (tillering), NPK = 120:60:60 kg ha-1 + B: 1% (tillering), NPK = 90:30:30 kg ha-1 + B: 2% (tillering), NPK = 120:60:60 kg ha-1 + B: 2% (tillering).The statistical analysis of data proved that various combinations of NPK and boron application displayed significant (P<0.05) effects on nearly all the growth and yield components of wheat. Thus, maximum plant height 86.7, more tillers 418.0 m2, increased spike length 11.6 cm, grains spike-1 51.0 and 49.0, grain weight plant-1 7.9 g, seed index (1000 grain weight) 41.7 g, biological yield 9131.7 kg ha-1, grain yield 3880.0 kg ha-1 and harvest index 42.5 were noted at NPK-120-60-60 kg ha-1 + B 2% at tillering phase, Whereas, all growth and yield parameters were measured poor under control (un-treated) plots. Hence, it was decided from the results that use of NPK = 120:60:60 kg ha-1 and 2% foliar application of boron at tillering stage proved better as compared to other treatments.
An experiment was conducted at the Crops Research Station of the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization Alupe, Busia County. The experiment was performed to find out the most suitable mulching material and an ideal spacing for green pepper cultivation under Busia County Conditions. The experiment was laid out in a Factorial Randomized Block Design with three replications. The treatments comprised of four mulching materials viz. black plastic mulch, transparent plastic mulch, straw mulch and bare soil which was the control with three row spacings viz. 30 x 50 cm, 40 x 40 cm and 50 x 40 cm. Data collected was subjected to SAS statistical software for analysis and means separated using LSD at P≤0.05. Significant responses on plant height and number of branches per plant were observed for both seasons due to spacing and mulching treatments. The highest branches (6.97) per plant were recorded in the 40 by 40 cm spacing under the transparent mulch with the lowest (2.83) shown under the same spacing in the straw mulch of California Wonder variety. The widest spacing elicited the highest number of fruits per plant (7.37) in the black plastic mulch while only a mean of 1 fruit per plant was recorded in the mulch control during the short rain season. The highest fruit mean yield per plant of 1556 g and 1533 g was recorded in the widest spacing (50 by 40cm) during the long and short rain seasons respectively. Therefore this study recommends the use of plastic mulches at wider spacing.
— A field study was carried out to at Agriculture Research Institute, Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam, to investigate the effect of various nitrogen levels on growth and yield contributing traits of two wheat varieties. Wheat varieties Benazir and TJ-83 were evaluated against four nitrogen levels (0, 90, 120 and 150 kg ha-1).The results revealed that the effect of nitrogen levels as well as varieties differed significantly for all the growth and yield contributing traits and N @ 150 kg ha-1 resulted in maximum values for plant height (87.66 cm), number of tillers m-2 (265.17), spike length (13.05 cm), number of spikelets spike-1 (22.02), number of grain spike-1 (68.21), seed index (48.80 g) and grain yield (4320 kg ha-1). In varieties, Benazir showed its superiority over its companion variety with 82.91 cm plant height, 224.17 tillers m-2 , 10.52 cm spike length, 18.21 spikelets spike-1 , 53.00 grains spike-1 , 45.29 g seed index and 3649.50 kg ha-1 grain yield. The commercial variety TJ-83 ranked 2 nd with 78.33 cm plant height, 207.75 tillers m-2 , 11.42 cm spike length, 19.82 spikelets spike-1 , 57.31 grains spike-1 , 40.98 g seed index and 3143.20 kg ha-1 grain yield. It was observed that treatment interaction N @150 kg × variety Benazir proved to be effective treatment and variety combination for achieving higher wheat yields; while, variety Benazir showed its genetic superiority yielding higher than its companion variety TJ-83.
Fruit crops like mango, citrus, avocado, litchi, temperate fruits, nuts, etc. suffer from the severe problem of irregular bearing or cropping periodicity as well as staggered or erratic flowering behaviour, leading to considerable loss of their production potential. Some of the fruit crops are worst sufferers of cropping periodicity. In fruit crops production serious problems is biennial bearing or irregular bearing leading to considerable loss of their production potentials. Alternate bearing tree (or branch) is one that does not bear a regular crop year after year; rather, heavy yields are followed by extremely light ones and vice-versa, While Flower initiation is very important because it is the first step towards attaining fruit. Biennial cycle is very usual, so that an “on-year” (large yields) is followed by an “off-year” (little or no yield). Alternate bearing means "a condition at which high or optimum fruit production in on year and certain year bear little or no fruit (off year), but growth regulators such as paclobutrazol reported to be effective on inducing flowering off year.

In order to investigate the effect of sowing date on yield and yield components of hemp, this study was conducted
in the field condition during 2012 in a randomized complete block design with three replications and three
sowing date consist of 30 April, 10 May and 20 May as treatments in research station of faculty of agriculture of
Azarbaijan Shahid Madani University. Results showed that maximum plant height, biological yield of plant, seed
number per plant, weight of seeds per plant, yield of seed per hectare was obtained from the second sowing date
and maximum value of harvest index belonged to first date. Maximum 1000 seeds weight and seed oil yield per
plant was observed in the first planting date but there was no significant difference with the second planting date.
Finally, it seems that middle of May is the best time for hemp planting at western agronomic lands of Iran.
Productivity of Soybean on Different AgroecosystemsIJEABJ
This study aims to see the growth and productivity of soybeans in different agroecosystems. The study was conducted on paddy field located in Bumi Setia village, Seputih Mataram sub-district, Central Lampung district, and on dryland located in Mandah village, Natar sub-district, South Lampung district, Lampung Province, Indonesia, from April to July 2015. Soybean varieties grown at each location were Grobogan varieties. The variables observed were crop emergence, plant height at harvest, number of plant harvested, number of pods per plant, empty pods, weight of 100 grains, pod pests and productivity. Data were analyzed by t test. The results showed that soybean productivity in dryland was 64.25% lower than productivity in paddy fields. The low yield of soybean varieties of Grobogan in dryland was caused due to drought factor when forming and filling pods. This can be seen from the decrease of weight of 100 grains of soybean seed in dryland up to 51.82% than in paddy field. The status of Grobogan varieties soybean vigor may change from large seed to medium seed if the water requirement is not optimum during the growing season.

Field trials were conducted in the 2014 rainy season at the Teaching and Research Farm of Bayero University, Kano (11°58’N and 8°25’E) and Agricultural Research Station Farm, Minjibir (12°11’N and 8°32’E). The objective of the study wasto evaluate the performance of improved sweetpotato lines with a view to identify those that may be adaptable with high yielding potential in the study area.The treatments consisted of 16 sweetpotato advanced lines: Centennial, AYT/08/055, TIS8164, TIS87/0087, NRSP12/097, UMUSPO/2, UMOSPO/1, SOLOMON-1, EA/11/022, EA/11/025, EA/11/003, UM/11/015, NRSP/12/095, UM/11/001, UM/11/022, and a local check
(Kantayiidda). These were laid out in a Randomized complete block design with 3 replications. Significant differences were observed in number of roots per plant, number of marketable roots, number of pencil roots, flesh colour, root shape and root yield. Kantayiidda produced significantly (p<0.05) higher root yield (10315kg/Ha) than all other lines. Solomon-1, Umuspo/1, EA/11/022, UM/11/001 and TIS87/0087 were found to be promising among the advanced lines evaluated; thus could relatively compete with Kantayiidda local for adaptation and high root yield in the study area. Microgreens are edible baby plants with huge potential for leafy vegetable production and many consider this plant based functional food as the new “Superfood”. Microgreens have many advantages over sprouts and they help to improve the nutritional value of our diet, with their high content of healthy compounds. During the microgreen cultivation, seeding is usually done as a broadcast or in rows and as the seeding density is difficult to recommend, most growers prefer to seed as thickly as possible to maximize production, but not too thickly because crowding encourages elongated stems which increases the risk of disease. Some growers have noticed the possibility of a “second harvest” of microgreens, just after the majority of tall grown microgreens are carefully harvested from the substrate with very high density of seeds, leaving a certain percentage of ungerminated seeds and sprouts to develop further. The present study investigated the possibility of harvesting more than one microgreen crop from a set of chickpea seeds through the regeneration of shoots after the first and the successive cuts above the lowest nodal portion of the shoots. It also included a study on the growth characteristics of the microgreens after the successive harvests. E. A field experiment was conducted at the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) farm
Mymensingh, Bangladesh during the irrigated ecosystem in December, 2009 to May 2010, with a view to study
the performance of aromatic fine rice under different date of transplanting. The experiment was carried out with
four aromatic fine rice (V1= Chinisagar, V2= Chiniatab, V3= Basmati, V4=Awnless Minicat) and three different
date of transplanting (D1=20 January, D2=5 February, D3=20 February). The experiment was laid out in splitplot
design with three replications assigning four varieties in the main plot and the three different transplanting
dates in the sub plot. Aromatic fine rice and dates of transplanting individually showed significant effect on the
agronomic parameters. Among the aromatic fine rice Awnless Minicat gave the highest yield (3.10 t ha-1
) but
that was at per with those of Basmati (1.77 t ha-1
). Transplantation on 20 January gave the highest grain yield
(2.41 t ha-1 ) which was at per with the transplantation on 5 February (1.99 t ha-1 ).The result revealed that 20 January and 5 February produced highest grain yield by all the variety. In later date of transplanting 20 February produced lower grain yield.
Generally, wheat productivity severely affected due to imbalanced fertilizer application, and on other hand NPB are 100%, 90% and 55% deficient in Pakistani soils as well as K deficiency appears rapidly. Therefore appropriate nutrient management is essentially required to obtain economic wheat yield. A field experiment was carried out at Student’s Experimental Farm, Department of Agronomy, Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam, during 2014-15. The trial was arranged on randomized complete block design, replicated thrice and treatments included: Control (untreated), NPK= 90:60:60 kg ha-1, NPK = 90-30-30 kg ha-1 + B: 1% (tillering), NPK = 120:60:60 kg ha-1 + B: 1% (tillering), NPK = 90:30:30 kg ha-1 + B: 2% (tillering), NPK = 120:60:60 kg ha-1 + B: 2% (tillering).The statistical analysis of data proved that various combinations of NPK and boron application displayed significant (P<0.05) effects on nearly all the growth and yield components of wheat. Thus, maximum plant height 86.7, more tillers 418.0 m2, increased spike length 11.6 cm, grains spike-1 51.0 and 49.0, grain weight plant-1 7.9 g, seed index (1000 grain weight) 41.7 g, biological yield 9131.7 kg ha-1, grain yield 3880.0 kg ha-1 and harvest index 42.5 were noted at NPK-120-60-60 kg ha-1 + B 2% at tillering phase, Whereas, all growth and yield parameters were measured poor under control (un-treated) plots. Hence, it was decided from the results that use of NPK = 120:60:60 kg ha-1 and 2% foliar application of boron at tillering stage proved better as compared to other treatments.
An experiment was conducted at the Crops Research Station of the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization Alupe, Busia County. The experiment was performed to find out the most suitable mulching material and an ideal spacing for green pepper cultivation under Busia County Conditions. The experiment was laid out in a Factorial Randomized Block Design with three replications. The treatments comprised of four mulching materials viz. black plastic mulch, transparent plastic mulch, straw mulch and bare soil which was the control with three row spacings viz. 30 x 50 cm, 40 x 40 cm and 50 x 40 cm. Data collected was subjected to SAS statistical software for analysis and means separated using LSD at P≤0.05. Significant responses on plant height and number of branches per plant were observed for both seasons due to spacing and mulching treatments. The highest branches (6.97) per plant were recorded in the 40 by 40 cm spacing under the transparent mulch with the lowest (2.83) shown under the same spacing in the straw mulch of California Wonder variety. The widest spacing elicited the highest number of fruits per plant (7.37) in the black plastic mulch while only a mean of 1 fruit per plant was recorded in the mulch control during the short rain season. The highest fruit mean yield per plant of 1556 g and 1533 g was recorded in the widest spacing (50 by 40cm) during the long and short rain seasons respectively. Therefore this study recommends the use of plastic mulches at wider spacing.
— A field study was carried out to at Agriculture Research Institute, Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam, to investigate the effect of various nitrogen levels on growth and yield contributing traits of two wheat varieties. Wheat varieties Benazir and TJ-83 were evaluated against four nitrogen levels (0, 90, 120 and 150 kg ha-1).The results revealed that the effect of nitrogen levels as well as varieties differed significantly for all the growth and yield contributing traits and N @ 150 kg ha-1 resulted in maximum values for plant height (87.66 cm), number of tillers m-2 (265.17), spike length (13.05 cm), number of spikelets spike-1 (22.02), number of grain spike-1 (68.21), seed index (48.80 g) and grain yield (4320 kg ha-1). In varieties, Benazir showed its superiority over its companion variety with 82.91 cm plant height, 224.17 tillers m-2 , 10.52 cm spike length, 18.21 spikelets spike-1 , 53.00 grains spike-1 , 45.29 g seed index and 3649.50 kg ha-1 grain yield. The commercial variety TJ-83 ranked 2 nd with 78.33 cm plant height, 207.75 tillers m-2 , 11.42 cm spike length, 19.82 spikelets spike-1 , 57.31 grains spike-1 , 40.98 g seed index and 3143.20 kg ha-1 grain yield. It was observed that treatment interaction N @150 kg × variety Benazir proved to be effective treatment and variety combination for achieving higher wheat yields; while, variety Benazir showed its genetic superiority yielding higher than its companion variety TJ-83.

Some of the fruit crops are worst sufferers of cropping periodicity. In fruit crops production serious problems is biennial bearing or irregular bearing leading to considerable loss of their production potentials. Alternate bearing tree (or branch) is one that does not bear a regular crop year after year; rather, heavy yields are followed by extremely light ones and vice-versa, While Flower initiation is very important because it is the first step towards attaining fruit. Biennial cycle is very usual, so that an “on-year” (large yields) is followed by an “off-year” (little or no yield). Alternate bearing means "a condition at which high or optimum fruit production in on year and certain year bear little or no fruit (off year), but growth regulators such as paclobutrazol reported to be effective on inducing flowering off year.

To evaluate the effect of humic acid fertilizer on potato tubers in 2010, trials were conducted in the Province of Iran. The experiment was conducted on a split plot with randomized complete block design having three replications. Main plots consisted of four levels of humic acid (0, 1, 2, 3 times) solution in water irrigation and sub-factor consisted of three varieties of potato (Marfona, Satina, and Born). During planting the application of humic acid at the rate of nine liters per hectare per load at the beginning and start of creating tuber formation respectively were done. Analysis of variance showed that the smallest and largest tuber weight, number of tubers per plant and yield per plant were not significant. Effect of humic acid on the smallest mean tumor weight at 1% and the number of tubers and yield per plant showed significant difference at 5% level. The largest tuber weight was also not significantly different. Interaction of humic acid fertilizer in any of the measured parameters showed no significant difference in potatoes. Comparison by Duncan test showed that the application of humic acid in all the three stages of growth had shown great impact on tuber weight. The highest number of tubers per plant has been associated with the use of humic acid (27 l/ha). The number of tubers per hectare with the application of 18 litres of humic acid showed no significant difference. The amount of humic acid applied were 18 and 27 litres per hectare, and increased performance is in the range of 13 and 29% respectively.
The effect of leguminous cover crops on growth and yield of tomatoAI Publications
Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) is one of the vegetable fruit crops commonly cultivated around the globe and used mostly as a flavour in cuisines. Cover cropping is a form of sustainable agriculture which helps to maintain soil fertility and reduces the need and the amount of inorganic fertilizer and thus helps the farmer to increase profitability. The objective of this study was to find the effect of the cover crops on growth and yield of tomato. In this experiment legume cover crops were grown in five treatment plots and these were Bare soil, inorganic fertilizer (NPK 15:15:15), Vigna unguiculata (Cowpea), Mucuna pruriens (Mucuna) and Canavalia ensiformis (Canavalia) in 3 blocks. The results showed that tomato plants grown on Canavalia ensiformis plots showed earlier flowering and fruiting than the other treatments. It also showed significantly higher yield than the other treatments (P= 0.006). The study shows that cover crops especially Canavalia ensiformis could be considered as part any farming system that wants to use sustainable farming to improve soil nutrients and reduce cost of farming.

Abstract— This study was carried out to evaluate the improvement of soil fertility and crop yield using formulated organic fertilizers in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) from October 2008 to April 2015 and the test crop was tomato, eggplant, cabbage and cauliflower. The physicochemical properties, behavior and persistence of plant beneficial microorganisms including nitrogen fixing bacteria, (e.g. Rhizobium sp., Azotobacter sp.), phosphate solubilizing bacteria e.g. (Bacillus sp. Pseudomonas sp., Phosphobacteria), Aspergillus sp. and Trichoderma sp., in the amended/ non-amended block were evaluated each year. The soil beneficial microbial populations and health properties including pH, nitrogen content, organic matter, phosphorus, K, Ca, and S, increased significantly in the compost-amended soils compared to the conventional practices. The total nitrogen (N) content and the organic matter of compost amended soil were 215% and 200% higher respectively than that of conventional practices (CP). Furthermore, significant increase of available organic matter, N, P, & K was observed in the compost-amended soils compared to conventional and control block. Furthermore, microbial population showed significant linear correlations with the organic matter contents of the soils and yearly vegetables yield increased gradually and was reached to almost identical to conventional field within 5 years, implying that the soil amended with BIOFER compost increased the soil fertility, and vegetables yields. Thus, application of BAOFER compost at the rate of 15 t/ha/year was found adequate in improving the vegetable yields and soil health in open field cultivation under subtropical climatic conditions.

Abstract— The experiment was conducted at the Horticultural farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh to investigate the influenced of yield and yield contributing characters of tuberose by the application of bulb and fertilizers. The experiment consisted of three bulb size viz., B1- small (1.0-1.5 cm ); B2- medium (1.6-2.5 cm) and B3- large (2.6-3.0 cm ) in diameter and different sources of fertilizers viz.,F0= control (no fertilizers ), F1- chemical fertilizers 330, 150 and 200 kg ha-1 of urea, TSP and MoP, respectively; F2- vermicompost 5 t ha-1; F3- poultry litter 10 t ha-1 and F4- cowdung 20 t ha-1. The experiment was laid out in a two factor Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The growth parameters as well as yield characters were greatly influenced by the application of poultry manure. In case of bulb size, the highest flower (12.45 t ha-1) and bulb (23.93 t ha-1) yield was recorded from B3 and the lowest flower (8.83 t ha-1) and bulb (12.94 t ha-1) yield was recorded from B1. In case of fertilizers, the highest flower (12.09 t ha-1) and bulb (21.36 t ha-1) yield was recorded from F3 and the lowest flower (7.95 t ha-1) and bulb (14.44 t ha-1) from F0. The maximum flower (14.19 t ha-1) and bulb (27.19 t ha-1) was found from the treatment combination of B3F3 and the minimum flower (6.16 t ha-1) and bulb (10.15 t ha-1) yield from B1F0. So, it may be concluded that large bulb size and 10 t ha-1 poultry litter is best for growth, bulb and flower production of tuberose.

In order to define which are the most important criteria for the selection of plant Growth-Promoting bacterial strains of the Hibiscus sabdariffa L. crop (Roselle), bacterial strains isolated from the roots of Roselle plants of two varieties (Creole and Spider) were used, collected in the community of Río de los Peces, municipality of Candelaria Loxicha, Oaxaca and seeds of the same varieties. To characterize the varieties, the following were determined: total germination percentage (TGP), germination speed (GS), the root length(RL), the stem length (SL), the dry root biomass (DRB), the dry stem biomass (DSB) and the chlorophyll content (CC). Three types of LED lamps were used to illuminate the seedlings. The seeds inoculated with cells of six selected bacterial strains were grown in a greenhouse to determine: the stem length (SL) at 3, 45 and 65 days after sowing (das). The treatments were distributed under a completely random design and comparison of means (Tukey, p = 0.05). The TGP, DSB and DRB parameters were not useful in the selection process of the strains that promoted plant growth to a greater degree. The GS and SL to be considered safe criteria or not, what is important is the relationship of what happens at the time of germination and development of the seedlings in the laboratory and greenhouse. The SL of the plants in the greenhouse showed differences between strains, but not regarding the control and also only observed in the first days of development (3 das). The CC did not prove to be a good selection criterion either. The lamp composed of 15% white light, 27% blue light and 58% red light was the one that most promoted root growth.
Fertility Levels of Soils under Selected Tree Vegetations for Efficient Agro-...AI Publications
In many parts of Nigeria, large areas of lands are dominated by tree crop vegetations for timber production and for fruits with land users not knowing the fertility status of soils in these vegetations. Continual evaluation of soil properties of these tree vegetations has become pertinent for agricultural sustainability. This study therefore was carried out to evaluate the fertility levels of soils under selected tree vegetations at National Horticultural Research Institute Okigwe, Imo State, Nigeria. Five tree vegetations that were over 20 years of establishment were selected namely: oil bean (Pentaclethra macrophylla Benth), African breadfruit (Treculia africana), mango (Mangnifera indica), Ogbonu (Irvingia gabonensis) and orange (citrus spp). In each of these tree vegetations, four soil samples were collected at uniform depths (0 – 20, 20 – 40 and 40 – 60 cm) at different locations using soil auger. The samples were analyzed using standard laboratory procedures. Data collected were statistically analyzed using analysis of variance. Results obtained showed that despite the ages of these vegetations, the soils were acidic, low in macronutrient and basic cation concentrations when compared to FAO standard. The highest exchangeable bases and organic matter (1.78%) was recorded on bread fruit vegetation. Therefore, there is need to increase the fertility status of these soils in these tree crop vegetations by adopting measures that will boost organic matter content of the soil irrespective of the duration of the vegetation and this will help in agro forestry and alley cropping.

A field study was conducted at the college of Agriculture, Baghdad University- Jadiriyah to investigate the effect of adding potassium fertilizer and organic nutrient (Reef Amirich) on the population density of two sucking pests of cucumber, cotton whitefly, Bemisia tabaci and onion thrips, Thrips tabaci during the spring season/2016. Results indicated that potassium sulphate (50, 100 and 150 kg/ha) and organic nutrient (0.8 and 1.6ml/l) reduced both the population density of B. tabaci and T. tabaci nymphs depending on the fertilizer level of the user, the treatment 150 kg/ha for the potassium fertilizer and 1.6 ml/L for organic nutrient was the highest among others when minimized density of nymphs by 1.62 nymphs of B. tabaci/disk leaf and 0.38 nymph of T. tabaci / disk leaf. suggesting a possible increase in cucumber resistance to this pest as a result of the treatments, and the result showed the infestation with B. tabaci was higher in the second half of May, the average number of nymph were 5.35 nymph/ disk leaf, while the highest number of T. tabaci was observed in the first half of May, the average number reached to 2.73 nymph/ disk leaf. The result showed the interaction treatment K150A1.6 was significant superior of percentage of K and increased of content in leaves of Fe, Cu and Zn.

Two season’s field experiment and single season screen house experiment were conducted to assess the effect of water stress periods and rhizobial inoculation in five P. vulgaris cultivars. The experiment consisted of two levels of rhizobia (with and without inoculation), two stress levels (with and without water stress) and five cultivars of P. vulgaris (KAT B9, KAT B1, F9 Kidney Selection, F8 Drought line and JESCA). Results showed that rhizobial inoculation significantly increased plant height (cm), leaf area (cm2), shoot and root dry weight (g-1 plant) and seed yields (kg-1 ha) at vegetative and flowering in field experiment. Furthermore, water stress treatments significantly reduced plant height (cm), stem diameter (mm), shoot and root dry weight (g-1 plant) and seed yields (kg-1 ha) in both growth stages at field experiment. For screen house experiment rhizobial inoculation significantly increased leaf area (cm2), number of leaves, stem girth (mm), shoot and root dry weight (g-1 plant) at both growth stages. Additionally, water stress treatments significantly reduced number of leaves, stem diameter (mm), shoot and root dry weight (g-1 plant) in both growth stages. Varieties F9 Kidney Selection, F8 Drought Line and JESCA had significantly superior measurements reflected in increased plant height (cm), shoot and root dry weight (g-1 plant) and seed yields (kg-1 ha) as compared with KAT B9 and KAT B1. Furthermore, significant interactive effects were also seen between rhizobial inoculation x stress level and tested bean cultivars on plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, shoot dry weight and seed yields.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.

made into soups, juice, ketchup, pickles, sauces, conserved puree, paste, powder and other products
(Ahmed et al., 1986; Thompson and Kelly, 1983 and Bose and Som, 1990). In Bangladesh, there is a
great possibility of increasing tomato yield per unit area with proper use of fertilizer. Tomato requires
large quantity of readily available fertilizer nutrient (Gupta and Shukla, 1997). To get one ton fresh
fruit, plant need to absorb on average 2.5-3 kg N. 0.2-0.3 kg P, and 3-3.5 kg K (Hedge, 1997). In absence
of other production constraints, nutrient uptake and yield are very closely related. Nitrogen has the
positive response (Koul, 1997, Omer, 1998, Gasim, 2001; Sawi, 1993) and essential for building up
protoplasm and protein, which induce cell division and initial meristematic activity when applied in
optimum quantity (Singh and Kumar, 1969). Nitrogen has largest effect on yield and quality of tomato
(Xin et al. 1997). It also promotes vegetation growth, flower and fruit set of tomato (Bose and Som,
1990). It significantly increases the growth and yield of tomato (Banerjee et al. 1997). Nitrogen has a
pronounced effect on growth and development of tomato. It promotes both vegetative and reproductive
growth and impacts the characteristic deep green color of leaves. Nitrogen application resulted in
greater values of plant height, leaf area, number of leaves and stem diameter of fodder maize, fresh and
dry forage yield were also increased due to addition of nitrogen (Koul, 1997). Leaf to stem ratio was
found also to be increased by nitrogen (Duncan, 1980) that the increase in leaf to stem ratio with
nitrogen application is probably due to the increase in number of leaves and leaf area under nitrogen
treatments, producing more and heavy leaves (Gasim, 2001). Application of N-fertilizer to the soil
produces high tomato fruit yield and improves fruit quality (Adams et al., 1978) whereas excessive
application leads to luxuriant development of vegetative parts of the plant at the expense of
reproductive growth (Tisdale et al., 2003). It has been reported that tomato can grow on a variety of
soils except worst soils such as gravelly soils and water-logged soils (Simons and Sobulo, 1974) but
better yields were obtained from some soil types than others even with the same management practices
and environmental conditions (Pettygrove et al., 1999). The specific dose of nitrogen may affect yield
and storage behavior of tomato fruits. The experiment objective is to find out amount of nitrogen for
optimum growth and higher yield of tomato per unit area of land.
II. Materials and Methods
Location and period of the study: This experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Farm, Sher-e-
Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during October 2008 to March 2009.
Genetic materials: BARI Tomato-9 was used in the experiments and seeds were collected from the
Horticulture Research Centre, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) at Joydebpur, Gazipur.
Treatments and design: The experiment consisted of four levels of nitrogen doses viz. Control: No
nitrogen, N1: 100 kg/ha, N2: 150kg/ha and N3: 200 kg/ha using Randomized Complete Block Design
with three replications.
Plot size: The size of unit plot was 2 m х 1.8 m. The distance between the blocks was 1 m and that
between plots was 50 cm.
Fertilizers and Manure: 10 tones cow dung, 150 kg TSP and 250 kg MP per hectare were applied in
the experimental plot. Entire cow dung, TSP and ½ of MP was applied during final land preparation.
Urea was applied according to the treatments. The entire urea and rest of MP were applied in three
equal installments at 15, 30 and 50 days after transplanting in the field.
Transplantation and spacing: Healthy and uniformed sized 30 days old seedlings were taken
separately from the seedbed and were transplanted in the experimental field on 28 November 2008
maintaining spacing of 60 cm and 50 cm between the rows and plants respectively.
Data collection: Data were collected on plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, number of
cluster, number of flowers, number of fruits, fruit length, fruit diameter, individual fruit weight,

yield/plot, yield/ha, and TSS content. A fruit was sliced into two halves horizontally with a sharp knife
and a small quantity of juice from them was used to determine TSS in percentage with TSS meter.
Statistical analysis: Collected data were statistically analyzed using MSTAT-C statistical package
programme and mean for all the treatments was calculated. Difference between treatments means were
determined by Least Significance Difference (LSD) test at 5% level of significance (Gomez and Gomez,
1984).
III. Results and Discussion
Plant height: Plant height increased gradually with the advancement of time and continued up to 100%
flowering. Tallest plant was found from N2 (150kg/ha) both at 50% flowering stage (82.3 cm) and
100% flowering stage (91.4 cm) while shortest from V4 (69.3 cm and 71.5 cm respectively) (Figure 01).

Moniruzzaman et al. (2009) found 161 Kg N/ha as the best for plant height of tomato that was agreed
with Islam et al. (2003). Plant height was increased possibly due to the readily available nitrogen, which
might have encouraged more vegetative growth and development. The height of tomato plants
increased significantly with the increased levels of nitrogen. Addition of nitrogen fertilizer increased
plant height (Sharma, 1973). The plant height, considered to be an important factor to judge the vigor
was found increased to a significant level resulting in accumulation of more dry matter, N, P and K in
the stems and leaves (Nanthakumar and Veeraragavathatham, 2001). Increase in plant height resulted
in an increase in leaf number/plant (Akintoye, 1996). Increase in plant height with nitrogen fertilizer is
due to the fact that nitrogen promotes plant growth, increases the number of internodes and length of
the internodes which results in progressive increase in plant height (Gasim, 2001; Chandler, 1969;
Turkhede and Rajendra, 1978; Koul, 1997). Nitrogen is necessary for photosynthesis, formation of
chlorophyll and nucleic acids, its absence or deficiency causes stunted growth (Tisdale et al., 2003).
This study was also indicated that the application of nitrogen fertilizer increase the plant height but
above 150 kg/ha plant height become retarded.
Number of leaves and branches per plant: Number of leaves/plant varied significantly among the
nitrogen levels. Maximum number of leaves was found from N2 (97.8/plant) while minimum from N0
(82.8/plant). Increments in nitrogen rate increased the number of leaves in spinach but these increases
were not statistically significant (Gulser, 2005). Karic et al. (2005) applied four nitrogen levels (0, 50,
100 and 200 kg N ha-1) to leek culture and reported that application of 200 kg N ha-1 resulted in a
maximum number of leaves (14.4/plant). Maximum number of branches was found from N2
(10.7/plant) while minimum from N0 (5.7/plant) (Figure 02). These results indicate that nitrogen

increases the growth of tomato, which ensured the maximum number of branch than control. Nitrogen
fertilization increased number of leaves per plant (El Noeman et al., 1990; Gasim, 2001). Nitrogen has a
significant effect on number of branches/plant as it activates vegetative growth (Manchanda and Singh,
1988).

Number of clusters per plant, flowers and fruits per cluster: There was a significant difference
among the nitrogen levels in number of cluster/plant, flowers/cluster and fruits/cluster. Maximum
number of clusters, flowers and fruits was found from N2 (15.3/plant, 6.4/cluster and 5.1/cluster
respectively) while minimum from N0 (7.8/plant, 5.0/cluster and 3.4/cluster respectively) (Figure 03).
Number of flowers per plant and fruits per plant were increased with increase in N level (Arya et al.,
1999; Aujla et al., 2007; Ahmed and Butt, 1999).
Fruit length and diameter: Fruit length showed statistically significant variation and fruit diameter
showed statistically identical among the varieties. However, longest fruit was found from N3 (9.0 cm)
while shortest from N0 (6.1 cm) (Table 01). On the other hand, maximum fruit diameter was found from
N2 (15.6 cm) while minimum from N0 (14.2 cm) (Table 01). Lal and Pundrik (1973) observed that an
improvement in fruit size with increasing nitrogen.

Individual fruit weight, yield per plot and yield per ha: Weight of individual fruit weight was
significantly influenced by different levels of nitrogen. Maximum individual fruit weight, yield/plot and
yield/ha was found from N2 (73.1 g, 22.3 kg and 61.4 t respectively) which was statistically identical
with N3 while minimum from N0 (60.5 g, 14.7 kg and 41.0 t) (Table 01). This result showed that the
yield of tomato increased gradually with the increased doses of nitrogen fertilizer. Many researchers
confirmed that commercial yield depends to the N fertilizer of application rate. They were shown that
fertilizer N levels affected not only quantity but also on quality of tomato fruit (De Pascale et al., 2006;
Parisi et al., 2006).
Total soluble solid (TSS): TSS content showed significant variation among the different nitrogen
levels. Maximum TSS content was found from N2 (5.5%) while minimum from N0 (4.0 %) (Table 01).

IV. Conclusion
Yield and yield contributing parameters are positively correlated with nitrogen levels as found in this
experiment with BARI tomato - 9 except control treatment. Nitrogen applied at the rate of 150 kg/ha
gave high yield. Growth parameters and yield contributing attributes of tomato also performed better
with 150 kg/ha; whereas control treatments showed minimum results for yield and growth
performance. 150 kg/ha would be beneficial for the farmers to obtain optimum growth and higher yield
of BARI tomato - 9.
