What Is The Theme Of Everyday Use By Alice Walker
The story Everyday Use by Alice Walker I believe the theme to be, To know and understand your
Heritage. When the daughter Dee comes back home to visit she has changed her name and is now
involved deeply in the African Culture. Her mother is appalled as she named Dee after her
grandmother and aunt, Dicie (Abcarian, Cohen Klotx, 2012, pg. 589). The name change is best
described in the story when Dee states No, Mama, she says. Not Dee Wangero Leewanika Kemanjo!

things in the house that she once hated or believed to be old such as, the benches for the table that her
father made and the churn made by her Uncle (Abcarian, Cohen Klotx, 2012,

Edgar Allen Poe s Tell-Tale Heart
What would you call a murder? Do you think that killing an old man for some unnecessary reason a
murder? I for one think that the narrator is a dangerous man and is guilty of murdering the old man. In
Edgar Allen Poe Tell Tale Heart , the narrator had mental issues because he heard voices, plotted to
kill and he cut up a body.
But would if he wasn`t in the right mind because of his disease? Even if that was the case, as long as
he is still free, he could do bad things. He killed an innocent old man just because he had an
intimidating eye. Most people would`ve just avoid looking at it. Be this man killed him because of it.
This guilty man actually planned and stalked this old man for days before killing him. That means that

The Legacy Of A New Democratic South Africa
Trailblazers and change agents are men and women who dared the odds and sacrificed their freedom
for the gain of others. Great leaders live among the masses; the quality of their service, humility,
dedication, and selflessness distinguishes them from the populace. These great leaders are munificent
men and women who are independent in their thinking. One such man, Nelson Mandela, delivered
Acceptance and Nobel Lecture in 1993 for his contributions to the peaceful termination of the
apartheid rule and for laying the foundations of a new democratic South Africa. (Nobel Prize)
Mandela begins building his credibility with facts and statistics, and employing emotional appeal and
ultimately sustaining the readers interest. Mandela s lived an eventful life and delivered a spectacular
speech for his works of peace in South Africa. The NobelPrize.org records that Nelson Mandela, born
in 1918 in South Africa studied law and became one of South Africa s first black lawyers. (Mandela
Facts) In the 1950s he was elected leader of the youth wing of the African National Congress (ANC)
liberation movement. This movement was prohibited by the white minority government in 1960,
which convinced Mandela to embrace violence as a strategy. He went on to organize a movement and
was arrested in 1962 for high treason and conspiracy and was later sentenced to life imprisonment. For
about two decades, he was at the Robben Island prison and was later moved to the mainland until his

The Implementation Plan For A New Outlook From Local...
The implementation plan indicates modifications made from the original plan, to add local business
owners. This modification will give a new outlook from local business owners and benefit the
community. For example, the local business owners can anticipate damages from disaster and offer
insight on the impacts during pre disaster planning.
The implementation plan will support the community plan by; historical management, prioritizing,
and community support. By looking at Arkansas history of disaster, strategies can be developed to
decrease the impacts. In the past Arkansas, the federal government has paid out disaster aid of over
one billion and 120 million dollars. By prioritizing tasks by the most important to the least important,
Little Rock can better plan to cover a total of 152,000 buildings.
By implementing these factors will increase community satisfaction and promote community
development; which will increase volunteers and community support.
Implementing these strategies and procedures will increase our communities chance for survival and
decrease the impacts of disasters. We need this modification in our mitigation process within three
months, since this will reduce potential lose and increase community satisfaction.

Research Paper On The Barbell Squat
The Barbell squat is a compound exercise that is a common exercise that specifically targets muscles
in the lower half of the body. Squats are used by a variety of individuals spreading from bodybuilding
to physical rehabilitation, used to help increase muscular recovery of injured lower limbs. The squat
movement begins with a hip width stance in an upright position with both hips and knees fully
extended, followed by a barbell supported on the trapezius muscles. Following this by descending,
flexing the knees ensuring they stay in line with the feet. The torso should remain upright as much as
possible during this action. Continue the descend all the way down with the weight on the front of the
heel, as the upper leg makes contact with the lower leg, reverse the motion and begin to drive the
weight upwards. According to a study in the (American Journal of Sports Medicine, 2002), there was a
very slight increase in the risk of knee injuries due to bad technique when performing the squat
exercise.

Evidence Based Management Essay
This essay is going to analyze the article titled What s the Evidence on Evidence Based Management?
by Trish Reay, Whitney Berta, and Melanie Kazman Kohn that was written in 2009. The article was a
systematic review of the available literature in response to increasing advocacy for the application of
evidence based management (EBMgt). The authors were driven by three overarching research
objectives: (I) to find out whether there was adequate literature about the concept of EBMgt, (II) to
evaluate the quality of existing evidence (literature) concerning EBMgt, and (III) to find out whether
there is a correlation between employing EBMgt and improved organizational performance.
The Author s Ability to Explain Why the Study According to the authors of the article, their systematic
review was necessitated by the increased call for EBMgt. They note that there are a number of
eloquent and outspoken proponents of evidence based management, especially Denise Rousseau who
has strongly pointed out that there is inadequate management practice and decision making founded
on EBMgt. They note that the medical and healthcare professionals have already ... Show more

Firstly, the authors do not adequately explain why the study. They decided to conduct the review in
order to contribute to the debate by other researchers about evidence based management. In my
opinion, it would have been better to predicate their research on the end user needs: that is, to find out
to what extent EBMgt is being practiced in organisations; the relevance of EBMgt; and its impact on
organisational performance. These ought to be the ultimate research objectives of future studies about
the same subject as well as future managerial practice. That means that their research questions should
have been geared toward the usage, relevance and importance of EBMgt to end users, the

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Essay
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is the first of several novels in the C.S. Lewis s Chronicles of
Narnia. These books tell stories of another universe that is called Narnia. Here there are many
unearthly things from talking animals and evil witches. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is the
story of four young siblings who discover this new world by entering a wardrobe. Little did they
know, they were destined to become the new royalty of Narnia but only after going through many
battles. In The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, C.S. Lewis analyzes the character Lucy, the theme
of good versus evil, and the parallels of Narnia to other literature and Lewis s life. In this book, Lucy
is one of the children featured as protagonist. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even early on in their friendship Lucy not only trusted a stranger faun, she believed in his goodness
too (Emerson). When Mr. Tumnus began to tell Lucy of all of the evil plans he was supposed to
follow, she replied to him in disbelief by saying, I think you are the nicest Faun I ve ever met and I m
sure you wouldn t do anything of the sort (Lewis 19). Lucy s will to see the good in him ultimately
influence Mr. Tumnus to risk his life for hers (Emerson). During Lucy s adventure she goes through
several tests of her character. The first test she encounters is trying to convince her siblings that Narnia
does exist (Emerson). The first time she tried to show them Narnia, the wardrobe did not lead to
anything unlike it had when she entered it before (Lewis 25). Many at this time would think that they
had dreamed or imagined Narnia, but not Lucy. She knew what she had seen and felt and would not
allow others to bully her into thinking otherwise (Emerson). Her siblings did not believe her and
ridiculed her by making fun of her saying it was all just a hoax and that she was just a little girl who
had an imagination (Lewis 25). Later on in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Lucy s second test
arrives. She is the only one who is willing to take responsibility for everything that had taken place in
Narnia such as Edmund, her brother, being captured and also helping the Narnians escape the
injustices from the White Witch. She even goes as far as

Ivan The Terrible Was The Grand Prince Of Russia
Ivan IV, also called Ivan the Terrible, was the Grand Prince of Russia in the 16th century from the
years 1533 1584. During his long reign as Russia s leader, he transformed Russia from a small futile
country to an empire. Because of his success in the government and taking control of neighboring
lands this led him into becoming the first czar in 1547. Ivan the Terrible increased the power and
position of Russia politically and militarily by defeating and slaughtering all those that got in his way
and creating trade and political alliances with the people who supported his polices and goals he set
out to achieve. Ivan The Terrible was born in 1530, Ivan was only three years old when he took the
Russian throne because of his father s unfortunate death. When he was seven his own nobles poisoned
and killed his mother. While he was a young child he had a very hard life, he had nobody to look after
him or take care of him. He was often molested as a child and neglected, this having some effect on
his rule as he grew older. To get food he would have to walk around begging others for scraps, keep in
mind this was his own empire. (Biography.com Editors)
The palace was a dangerous place to live as he was growing up it was common for people to come in

Installation of ABC System at Super Bakery Inc
The ABCs of Doughnut Making: Super Bakery, Inc. was founded in 1990 by Franco Harris, former
Pittsburgh Steelers running back. The company is a supplier of doughnuts enriched with minerals,
vitamin, and protein as well other baked commodities to the primary school systems and institutional
food market throughout the nation. Since it s a virtual corporation, the core strategic functions of the
business are carried out within the company. On the other hand, the other activities of Super Bakery,
Inc. are outsourced to a network of external organizations. The business in turn organizes the work
flow of and draws together the external companies in this process. This helps the company to add
maximum value while making minimal investments in working capital, fixed assets, and permanent
staff. The outsourcing to a network of other companies has enabled Super Bakery to increase its sales
at average annual rate of 20 percent.
Strategies Used By the Management of Super Bakery, Inc.: Based on the case, the management of
Super Bakery, Inc. achieved success and profitability of the firm through two major ways. First, these
executives only ensured that the only the core strategic functions of the organizations were conducted
internally i.e. within the company. Secondly, other business functions like manufacturing, shipping,
warehousing, and selling were outsourced to a network of external companies. The reason for the use
of these two strategies was to minimize the expenditure rate

Morality in O’Brien’s Going After Cacciato Essay
Morality in O Brien s Going After Cacciato
Going After Cacciato, by Tim O Brien, is a book that presents many problems in understanding.
Simply trying to figure out what is real and what is fantasy and where they combine can be quite a
strain on the reader. Yet even more clouded and ambiguous are the larger moral questions raised in this
book. There are many so called war crimes or atrocities in this book, ranging from killing a water
buffalo to fragging the commanding officer. Yet they are dealt with in an almost offhanded way. They
seem to become simply the moral landscape upon which a greater drama is played i.e. the drama of
running away from war, seeking peace in Paris. This journey after Cacciato turns into a ... Show more

This certainly comes out in the fragging incident, when the squad kills Lieutenant Sidney Martin. But
there s something more. Another time, O Brien was quoted as saying, My concerns have to do with the
abstractions: ... How does one do right in an evil situation? (Bates 263). That is the big question, of
course, that this novel deals with. See, the point that O Brien is making is not that war is an evil
situation. He s trying to take that for granted and move beyond. Now that you ve got this evil
situation, what do you do?
Where is the good? In the observation post, Paul Berlin remembered what his father had said on their
last night along the Des Moines River. You ll see some terrible stuff, I guess. That s how it goes. But
try to look for the good things, too. They ll be there if you look. So watch for them (O Brien 58). So
he does look for the good things. That s beauty being born out of despair, if you will. He enjoys
watching the sunrise. And Bates refers to Paul Berlin helping treat a young Vietnamese girl and having
sensitive feelings towards her (270). This is almost as if to say that war brings out the best as well as
the worst in us. Some may argue that it s almost worth it. ( Almost being the key word for clearly the
good in a war does not outweigh or even equal the bad.)
Here s where purpose gets involved. Most believe that there is a greater good. Some reason for
fighting the war. Politics. Ideology. The things Paul Berlin thinks

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (PP) rooted from traditional psychoanalysis theories. PP operates with
the basic assumption that focuses on unconscious processes that recognise how a person s behaviour
and feelings in the present are rooted from childhood experience in the past. The objective of PP is to
facilitate client to reach self awareness and to have a better understanding of the problems by
identifying where the origin of the issue as well as underlying causes that may be present.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy places heavy emphasis on client s relationships and interpersonal
experience (Shedler, 2010).
Therapeutic Relationship
Gelso Carter (1985) suggested therapeutic relationship as the feelings and attitudes that the
counselling participants have toward one another and the manner in which these are expressed . The
establishment of a therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client that is open, non

City Trenches Summary
In City Trenches, Ira Katznelson argues that the working class in American cities developed two
distinct spheres of political life: one professional and one personal. This distinction was a consequence
of the emergence of a capitalism economy. Instead of professional political solidarity, the working
class mobilized in their individual ethnic communities. Katznelson uses the Washington Heights and
Inwood neighborhoods of northern Manhattan to explain the ethnic politics phenomena. In
Washington Heights, the Jewish population enjoyed political control for a significant portion of the
late nineteenth and up to the mid twentieth century. Likewise, Irish Americans settled in Inwood
where they managed to control neighborhood politics for much of ... Show more content on

The professional interests of the worker are regulated to the workplace. This regulation is a choice of
the worker. Instead, the worker is the only influencer in their personal politics, without any connection
to their professional life. Therefore, Katznelson appears to take the approach of the worker having
agency in political life in the American city. Unlike the other authors we have discussed, who take a
hard line on a conglomerated political elite controlling politics in cities, Katznelson believes that
working class individuals have some control over how politics operate in their city. He does not that
deny power is vested in an elite on a large citywide level. Katznelson s assertion is that working class
politics place emphasis on everyday neighborhood politics instead of worrying about the problems of
City Hall. The political elite of the city and the working class neighborhood residents works in
conjugation, largely based on ethnic lines. Katznelson does reference Dahl once in City Trenches.
Dahl s discussion of the formation of the power elite on economic lines is what Katznelson referenced,
which then became political power. The city trench system was a new political system designed to
combine political and financial

Convergence Hypothesis In Super Bowl Commercials
Super Bowl commercials use a wide variety of tactics to target their audience. The central theme of all
the commercials involves some aspect of football a sport that is mostly popular in the United States.
However, due to the convergence hypothesis, the commercials must use aspects of both popular
culture and folk culture to reach as many viewers as they can Super Bowl commercials tend to be
targeted to popular culture, but there are some aspects in them that can be considered influenced by
folk culture due to the convergence hypothesis. The first Super Bowl commercial examined is by Coca
Cola. In this commercial the song America the Beautiful is sang with each line in the song in a
different language. This commercial is a perfect example of the convergence hypothesis at work. Even
though this commercial is targeted for an American audience, it must cater to different cultures
because the convergence hypothesis has brought many different people from different cultures
together and intertwined cultures. The song is part of American non material culture, but it is

Auguste Comte s Sociological Approach To The Scientific...
Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions and the study of social problems.
Sociology investigates the social causes and consequences of such things as prejudice and
discrimination. Auguste Comte first used the term sociology in 1838 to refer to the scientific study of
society. He argued that society needs scientific knowledge based on facts and evidence to solve its
problems. Spencer suggested that society will correct its own defects through the natural process of
survival of the fittest. Marx claimed that social conflict, especially class conflict, and competition
mark all societies. Durkheim stressed the importance of studying social facts or patterns of behavior
characteristic of a particular group. He advocated the use of systematic observation to study
sociological events, but he also recommended that sociologists avoid considering people s attitudes
when explaining society. Weber argued that sociologists must also take into account people s
interpretations of events; not just the events themselves. He believed that sociologists must inquire
about people s thoughts, feelings, and perceptions regarding their own behaviors. These Sociologists
were the main players during the 19th and 20th century, and their prior work led to the development of
Sociology in America. Sociologists throughout the decades have sought to develop a scientific
approach to the study and resolve such issues as prejudice and discrimination. Early

It is often asked why you should budget. It is so boring. I don t have time to budget. Lots of excuses.
But the truth is budgeting is very helpful and beneficial to you and your family. Here are 5 Reasons
Budgeting Can Improve Your Life.
1. Reduce / Eliminate Debt
The number one reason given for making a budget is to reduce your overall debt and to eventually
eliminate debt from your financial life totally. Budgeting is a tool by which you take back control of
your cash flow. You remove the majority of the spontaneous spending and you plan ahead of time on
how your money will be spent. It eliminates the feeling of no control and returns those controls back
to you.
2. Build Savings
Budgeting is not just for being rid of debt. Once you have paid off all of your debt you should
continue to budget. Where before you were directing your money were to go to get out from under
that debt burden, now you can direct your money where to go for savings and investment purposes.
Once you get to this stage of budgeting, budgeting

George Lakoff s Anna Nicole On The Brain
In George Lakoff s book The Political Mind , in an excerpt entitled as Anna Nicole on the Brain , he
talks about our mind is our brain. Values, thoughts and principles come from within. They come
exactly deep inside our brains and form there. Our life shapes us by the narratives that we live in.
These narratives are the different parts of our lives that people defined us. And these parts are
structured in what we call frames . Every frame of our life has a role. For example, Lakoff says, when
Anna Nicole Smith died, she is seen with different narratives such as Rags to Riches narrative,
American Redemption narrative, and Troubled Life narrative and the list goes on; each narrative
conveys how people see and judge her through her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
shows. Audiences become more aware of continuing story lines, erratic character development and
never ending problems. Here, complex narratives of characters are formed in front of the audience so
they would crave for some more story telling. Lakoff s complex narrative can be seen in the show for
example, 24 . First, it is about an anti terrorism organization narrative which surely a must view for
the people s consciousness about a huge problem today. Second, the character development of the
protagonist using combinations of narratives is used so that it would greatly impact the audience
through the protagonist s actions. Lastly, the writers use cliffhanger narratives for each episode to
build more momentum, which is needed to create a marathon series. Television shows are only one of
the many uses of complex narratives. Complex narratives can be used from entertainment to politics to
our personal lives and several others. Narratives can be used to see through the lens of a person s life.
Narratives let us judge how to view a person based on his or her life story. People s views change
depending on what narrative either with a positive or negative motif we see a person fits in, especially
when people see themselves living in that person s narrative. Through neural bindings, the blending of
simple narratives create complexity, it is where it produces emotional experiences that mend people s

Death Of Solomon Research Paper
Israel s Golden Age was during the reign of Solomon. As king, he had many different
accomplishments that many other kings did not have. Solomon three sources of national income were,
taxation that provided the main part of his support for his family as well as furnished his court. Second
was tribute and gifts that were received from different nations. Lastly was the trade relationships that
were developed in many areas. Solomon grew his kingdom through building temples and palaces
alongside developing alliances with Egypt and other nations. But after Solomon s death, his empire
crumbled and division occurred. There are four main reasons why this division happened. First, there
is evidence that even before the death of Solomon, the nation was already starting to fall and this was
because the tribes had grown jealous of their independency and rights. The tribal jealousy can be
traced by to the time of Jacob and his wives. Leah and Rachel were jealous of on another, mainly
when it came to their sons and who would receive the blessing of Jacob. But Jacob did not help in this
case by showing favoritism to Rachel and the sons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Did Guatemala After Independence
Guatemala After Independence:
After independence, in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, Guatemala solely relied
on coffee as a means of exports. Life in Guatemala did not change significantly after independence.
However, the major change came economically after independence Guatemala focused on the
production of coffee. Coffee became their main cash crop, and foreign investment in coffee increased.
Coffee then began to be produce at a large scale, large masses of lands were required to cultivate it. As
a result many of the indigenous people who owned land in the countrysides lost their lands. The
government support if the production of coffee, drove off the indigenous off their lands. The masses of
lands then required for people to work the lands. As a result of being driven off their lands, and not
having means of production of crops to sell and to have to eat, the indigenous were driven to work and
cultivate the lands they once owned. The indigenous became dependent on this type of employment.
The work of indigenous people cultivating land developed a complex system of labor into three types

Bossypants Chapter Summary
Every writer has certain organization methods implemented throughout their book which make their
piece of writing unique. Tina Fey, the author behind the memoir Bossypants, is no exception. Within
the autobiography, she utilized different structural devices to portray her life, such as chronological
order, lists, sub chapters, and footnotes. The way Ms. Fey arranged her book undoubtedly affected the
memoir as a whole. To begin, Tina Fey organized her book chronologically starting from kindergarten
and working her way through her life until present. The memoir started out with the chapter, Origin
Story, where she introduces herself to the reader and lays out her early life. For example, During the

this chapter from becoming confusing, Ms. Fey strategically used sub chapters, including, In a
Shocking Turn of Events, Meanwhile, Across Town, and Back at 30 Rock (page 181 184). All of these
sub chapters allowed for this hectic, action filled chapter to remain organized. In continuation, the use
of footnotes within Bossypants, allowed for there to be clarity on certain topics. For instance, To say

true intent, this guy was not a friendly guy. Furthermore, one chapter as dedicated to her Sarah Palin

The entire infrastructure is out of date including security patches and other upgrades. These has not

for these breaches within IDI. The equipment at the locations has proven that it is not efficient for
today s business needs as there are several instances of dropped connections and lost sales during the
peak hours of business. New software will be required to improve overall performance and job duties.
In conjunction to the new software, new hardware will need to be implemented to work with the

On the first of November I visited the Performance Art Center, on Texas State University s campus.
There I saw the Texas State Jazz Ensemble perform with guest, Steve Houghton. The performance
began at 7:30pm and lasted for an approximate hour and a half. As I observed the stage I noticed that
there were a variety of instruments played in the jazz ensemble. The instruments that were played
included string (grand piano, electric guitar, electric bass, bass), brass (trumpet, trombone, French
horn), woodwind (tenor sax, alto sax, baritone sax) and percussion instruments (six piece drum set,
bongos). On the drum set was, special guest, Steve Houghton from the music school of Iowa. Overall,
there were several different pieces of different sub genres of jazz music. The pieces that were played
in the ensemble included the following: Slide s Derangement by Slide Hampton, BBC by Bob
Florence, Dangerous Curves by Matt Harris, Blues for 70 by John Clayton, Jazz Crimes by Joshua
Reden, Isotope by Joe Henderson, Basie s Back in Town by Ernie Wilkins. Each piece named above
had its own uniqueness. The characteristics of each musical piece will be described below: Slide s
Derangement started off with a solo performed by an alto sax. There were also solos performed by a
trumpet and the drums. Each solo was accompanied by a melodic repetition of numerous crescendos
performed by brass and woodwind instruments. The drums and the rhythm kept the upbeat tempo by

Chuck Klosterman My Zombies Myself Summary
The article My Zombie, Myself: Why Modern Life Feels Rather Undead, written by Chuck
Klosterman, discusses the reasons behind zombies becoming so popular. Klosterman writes that rise of
popularity of zombies is different than that of vampires. He states that most monsters are initially
created as representations of fear. Similar to that of Frankenstein or vampires, Klosterman explains
that zombies could be viewed in the same light; however, zombies are better explained as an allegory
for our day to day existence. Rather than some innate fear, Klosterman highlights this fact to be why
zombies have risen to such high popularity. Klosterman proposes that he knows why the interest in
zombies has grown so much. He attributes this to zombies being very easy to kill, come in large
quantities, and have no depth of character. Klosterman s explanation for such intrigue in zombies is
their parallel to our day to day existence. He relates zombies to many real life activities, like going
through a weekends worth of emails on Monday. Along with the constant saturation of news we can
get from the internet, the concept of it being easy to close, or kill, and come in large quantities are
very similar to zombies. Klosterman provides this as a better exploitation of the popularity of ... Show

the article was lacking in direction was the very last part. It highlighted the prepetition of people
against zombies, which while still relevant, felt out of place. This did not make it a bad article, just
something that I felt was out of

Pros And Cons Of The Great Migration
The Great Migration North: An Economic Endeavor For the United States of America, a large portion
of the twentieth century, 1910 to 1970, was characterized by African American movement from the
rural South to the urban, industrial North. During this time, known as the Great Migration, millions of
southern blacks moved to the North in hopes of a better future, away from the Jim Crow South where
they were under constant threat by white supremacist values and endured an unequal treatment from
whites even after Emancipation. However, the principal motive for the blacks of the rural South to
leave their homes, families, and friends for the urban North was economic; regional wage differences,

opportunities in the North. In addition to the work of the labor agents and the black press, an extensive
network of family and friends furthered the desire to migrate North. Members of the community
would talk in barber shops and grocery stores to learn about transportation, jobs, and housing in the
North. Letters, money, and accounts from those who returned to visit the South also gave them an idea
of what their future could look like if they choose to migrate to the North. Some formed migration
clubs to pool their resources and move in groups to the North while others saved up enough money to
send one family member up North, expecting them to make enough money to send the rest of the
family up. The dream of moving up North for a better future could not have been so popular, had there

When The Wolves Came In The Gettin Analysis
Constant separation and tension between blacks and whites is at the forefront of Kyle Abraham s
When the Wolves Came In. Performed first in 2015, the piece consists of three narratives including
When the Wolves Came In, Hallowed, and The Gettin . This reflection and interpretation will be
solely based on the third installment of the piece. The Gettin brings racial issues into view through the
different interactions between each performer and through dancer and background projection relations.
The relationship and mood between each performer depending on the others race is extremely
prevalent throughout The Gettin . For many portions of the choreography, specifically, when the stage
is made up of only African Americans the mood is much more positive and happy. For example,
during one of the scenes mid way through When the Wolves Came In, the stage is accompanied by

Letter Writing By A Letter
Letter writing is a large part of this chapter playing various different roles. Bechdel first brings up the
use of letter writing when she sends a letter home addressing the fact that she might be a lesbian.
Although she was unsure of the truth of this statement she still sent a letter home hoping to get a
positive response back. This letter triggered a chain of letters between her and her mother. Later in the
chapter on page 77 she gets a letter from her mother. Bechdel uses a whole panel to show the letter
allowing the viewer to read most of it. This letter looks to have used a type writer and unlike other
letters in this chapter seems less personal. Another use of letter writing in this story is when her father
was in the army. Bruce and Helen exchanged various letters back and forth during his time in the army
mainly discussing the book she had sent him. The way Bechdel incorporates these letters into the
composition is an interesting way to fill a panel. Some of the letters take up the whole panel focusing
on key parts of the letter. Some letters are part of the panel as a speech balloon. There are also full
letters that occupy a large space in a panel. On page 62 and 63 these examples are present. A square
panel on 62 shows only Bruce s handwriting. The handwriting represents a sentimental quality.
Bechdel might have used his actual letter for this panel. He writes about the book called The Far Side
of Paradise sent to him by Helen. The use of fragments of written

Triple Entente Strategy
Up until World War I, there had never been a war which caused as many deaths as which would take
place in the four years of the war. The cause for the mass increase of death can be correlated with the
different tactics and strategies used in what would be called before World War II as the Great War.
Each major which played a role in World War I created strategies they thought would make them
victorious in by the end of the war. One giant military tactic used by the key player in the First World
War was alliances. The two giant alliances formed were The Triple Entente and the Central Powers.
The Triple Entente contained the countries Great Britain, France and Russia; while The Triple Alliance
was formed between the countries: Germany, Austria Hungary, and Italy. By forming alliance before

Upward Mobility
Melessa Favreault in her report titled discrimination and upward mobility, aims to determine if racism
upsets upward mobility particularly among African Americans. For this report, Melessa defines racism
as less favorable treatment in an important institution, like the education or criminal justice system, or
market, like a labor, financial, or housing market, solely on the basis of an ascribed characteristic, like
age, race, or gender (1). The report exemplified that in fact, among African American families,
downward mobility is more expected than upward mobility, residential segregation is a threat to
upward mobility, and discrimination is present in both labor and housing markets.
Institutional racism is partly to blame for the lack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A subject that is more thoroughly touched upon in the textbook. According to the textbook,
segregation often leads to social isolation. This occurs because outsiders such as those belonging to
the middle and upper working classes avoid these neighborhoods. This avoidance leaves these
communities virtually cut off from the larger society and lead to a high occurrence of crime and
unemployment (299). Besides these factors, these segregated neighborhoods have poor quality
schools, limited medical care, and high rates of infant mortality, substance abuse, and violent crime
(299). All factors that diminish chances of upward mobility. That is, a lack of education and high
exposure to crime and substance abuse does not provide much in the way of opportunity. The report
states that Social exclusion remains among the largest problems in our wealthy society, and one of the
most troubling with respect to economic mobility (5). This could be due to a lack of acknowledgement
of the problem. The report also states that, there is a disparity by race in perceptions of the prevalence
of discrimination, with whites less likely than blacks to view discrimination as a problem (4). As long
as there is a victim there is a crime, no matter how much its prevalence is denied, institutional racism
continues to promote unequal opportunity among the African American population in America.
Based on the information examined in the report, racism does in fact hinder the upward mobility of
African Americans. Racist practices towards blacks in the capitalist housing market strikingly lessons
prospects of upward mobility by promoting racially segregated neighborhoods that offer less in the
way of social infrastructure, such as schools and hospitals and subject residents to crime and

FIFA must lead by example, they need to become more active in demonstrating the core value of
leadership. How can we expect the football world to make the right decisions and to be honest in their
ways of business if the main organization of football isn t doing so themselves? Lastly, we believe
FIFA needs to master the core value of maturity. If we are expecting maturity when it comes to how
players handle a bad call on the field, then we should also expect it of the largest organization of the
sport itself, FIFA. If something were to go wrong in the future, whether it is with a player, board
member, vice president, etc., FIFA should be mature about the situation and handle it properly and

In order to combat the alleged corruption throughout FIFA, our first objective is to create a

management that deals with the commercial aspect of FIFA and those who make executive decisions
within FIFA. By doing this we believe that the temptation and occurrence of corruption will be

Important Aspects Of A Functioning Classroom Essay
Through this past semester, we heavily discussed the important aspects of a functioning classroom,
from different theorists to helpful teaching techniques. We ve debated what it means to be a great
teacher. I believe most of the theories we discussed could be incorporated much more in the
classroom. John Dewey, Friedrich Froebel, Maria Montessori, and Lev Vygotsky all understood the
way children think and the importance of imaginative play. They also understood that children need to
be active in nature. Also, we have discussed different forms of learning, such as project based
learning, team teaching, and outdoor classrooms. In my opinion, the education system should have
changes that benefit the students needs. They re not getting the most out of their education. Children
are active, curious, extremely social, literal, and more intelligent than they are given credit for. They
can easily pick up the atmosphere of any environment they are in, if something is off they may not
understand it, but they will know. Children want to learn, explore, and be involved. Teaching styles
that work best for children are hands on approaches, present new information in small, clear steps, ask
many questions and discuss answers deeply. Provide scaffolding, and provide diagrams, maps,
models, and handouts. These teaching styles work best because students are doing and seeing
something. Students can hold a piece of paper and listen to what is on it by the teacher. They can see

Transcripts After High School
Transcripts Throughout my 4 years of high school, I am happy to say that I am proud of my grades I
have acquired. Along the way, however, I found difficulty in only 2 of my classes. The first class was
my sophomore year in ag biology. I had a hard time getting through this class and finished off with a
D+. Next was my junior year in my Math 3 class where I struggled all year but ended the year with a
satisfying C. With my struggles, I learned valuable skills such as perseverance and a never quit
attitude that will help me down the road in my education after high school.
Attendance My attendance throughout high school has been everything short of perfect. My freshman

The American Dream In I Hear America Singing By Walt Whitman
During this era the American dream was the notion that a man could create a successful life for
himself and his family. As discussed earlier, America effectively isolated women and African

would be in the poem I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman. Whitman describes the sound of
America as one of hard work produced by workers. He writes, the carpenter singing his as he
measures his plank or beam (Whitman 3). It illustrates the hard work that Americans put into their
careers, and their willingness to support the nation s economy. No African Americans appear in the
poem, and Whitman describes women working in the house. Once again, the exclusivity of the nation
only allows white males to have a chance of achieving a pleasant, stable life. At this time, a majority
of African Americans remained enslaved across the Nation, which prohibited them from being able to
build any sort of life for themselves. Therefore the American Dream is not even an option for almost a
quarter of the population. How could someone prohibited from leaving a plantation be able to support
themselves and live an acceptable life? For almost all African Americans the idea was unthinkable
until the later half of the 1860 s when the government abolished slavery. When it comes to women,
however, one could say that living the American dream was possible. Women in America worked in
the home cleaning, cooking

I for one think that the narrator is a dangerous man and is guilty of murdering the old man. In Edgar Allen Poe Tell Tale Heart , the narrator had mental issues because he heard voices, plotted to kill and he cut up a body. But would if he wasn`t in the right mind because of his disease? Even if that was the case, as long as he is still free, he could do bad things. He killed an innocent old man just because he had an intimidating eye. Most people would`ve just avoid looking at it. Great leaders live among the masses; the quality of their service, humility, dedication, and selflessness distinguishes them from the populace. These great leaders are munificent men and women who are independent in their thinking. One such man, Nelson Mandela, delivered Acceptance and Nobel Lecture in 1993 for his contributions to the peaceful termination of the apartheid rule and for laying the foundations of a new democratic South Africa. (Nobel Prize) Mandela begins building his credibility with facts and statistics, and employing emotional appeal and ultimately sustaining the readers interest. This modification will give a new outlook from local business owners and benefit the community. For example, the local business owners can anticipate damages from disaster and offer insight on the impacts during pre disaster planning. The implementation plan will support the community plan by; historical management, prioritizing, and community support. In the past Arkansas, the federal government has paid out disaster aid of over one billion and 120 million dollars. By prioritizing tasks by the most important to the least important, Little Rock can better plan to cover a total of 152,000 buildings. The squat movement begins with a hip width stance in an upright position with both hips and knees fully extended, followed by a barbell supported on the trapezius muscles. Following this by descending, flexing the knees ensuring they stay in line with the feet. The torso should remain upright as much as possible during this action. Continue the descend all the way down with the weight on the front of the heel, as the upper leg makes contact with the lower leg, reverse the motion and begin to drive the weight upwards. The authors were driven by three overarching research objectives: (I) to find out whether there was adequate literature about the concept of EBMgt, (II) to evaluate the quality of existing evidence (literature) concerning EBMgt, and (III) to find out whether there is a correlation between employing EBMgt and improved organizational performance. When Mr. Tumnus began to tell Lucy of all of the evil plans he was supposed to follow, she replied to him in disbelief by saying, I think you are the nicest Faun I ve ever met and I m sure you wouldn t do anything of the sort (Lewis 19). Lucy s will to see the good in him ultimately influence Mr. Tumnus to risk his life for hers (Emerson). During Lucy s adventure she goes through several tests of her character. The first test she encounters is trying to convince her siblings that Narnia does exist (Emerson). The first time she tried to show them Narnia, the wardrobe did not lead to anything unlike it had when she entered it before (Lewis 25). Many at this time would think that they had dreamed or imagined Narnia, but not Lucy. She knew what she had seen and felt and would not allow others to bully her into thinking otherwise (Emerson). Her siblings did not believe her and ridiculed her by making fun of her saying it was all just a hoax and that she was just a little girl who had an imagination (Lewis 25). Simply trying to figure out what is real and what is fantasy and where they combine can be quite a strain on the reader. Yet even more clouded and ambiguous are the larger moral questions raised in this book. There are many so called war crimes or atrocities in this book, ranging from killing a water buffalo to fragging the commanding officer. Yet they are dealt with in an almost offhanded way. Another time, O Brien was quoted as saying, My concerns have to do with the abstractions: ... How does one do right in an evil situation? (Bates 263). That is the big question, of course, that this novel deals with. See, the point that O Brien is making is not that war is an evil situation. He s trying to take that for granted and move beyond. Now that you ve got this evil situation, what do you do? Where is the good? In the observation post, Paul Berlin remembered what his father had said on their last night along the Des Moines River. You ll see some terrible stuff, I guess. That s how it goes. But try to look for the good things, too. They ll be there if you look. So watch for them (O Brien 58). So he does look for the good things. That s beauty being born out of despair, if you will. He enjoys watching the sunrise. And Bates refers to Paul Berlin helping treat a young Vietnamese girl and having sensitive feelings towards her (270). This is almost as if to say that war brings out the best as well as the worst in us. Some may argue that it s almost worth it. ( Almost being the key word for clearly the good in a war does not outweigh or even equal the bad.) Here s where purpose gets involved. Most believe that there is a greater good. Katznelson uses the Washington Heights and Inwood neighborhoods of northern Manhattan to explain the ethnic politics phenomena. Sociology investigates the social causes and consequences of such things as prejudice and discrimination. Auguste Comte first used the term sociology in 1838 to refer to the scientific study of society. He argued that society needs scientific knowledge based on facts and evidence to solve its problems. Spencer suggested that society will correct its own defects through the natural process of survival of the fittest. Marx claimed that social conflict, especially class conflict, and competition mark all societies. Durkheim stressed the importance of studying social facts or patterns of behavior characteristic of a particular group. He advocated the use of systematic observation to study sociological events, but he also recommended that sociologists avoid considering people s attitudes when explaining society. Weber argued that sociologists must also take into account people s interpretations of events; not just the events themselves. He believed that sociologists must inquire about people s thoughts, feelings, and perceptions regarding their own behaviors. These Sociologists were the main players during the 19th and 20th century, and their prior work led to the development of Sociology in America. • 28. Chuck Klosterman My Zombies Myself Summary The article My Zombie, Myself: Why Modern Life Feels Rather Undead, written by Chuck Klosterman, discusses the reasons behind zombies becoming so popular. Klosterman writes that rise of popularity of zombies is different than that of vampires. He states that most monsters are initially created as representations of fear. Similar to that of Frankenstein or vampires, Klosterman explains that zombies could be viewed in the same light; however, zombies are better explained as an allegory for our day to day existence. Rather than some innate fear, Klosterman highlights this fact to be why zombies have risen to such high popularity. Klosterman proposes that he knows why the interest in zombies has grown so much. He attributes this to zombies being very easy to kill, come in large quantities, and have no depth of character. Klosterman s explanation for such intrigue in zombies is their parallel to our day to day existence. He relates zombies to many real life activities, like going through a weekends worth of emails on Monday. Along with the constant saturation of news we can get from the internet, the concept of it being easy to close, or kill, and come in large quantities are very similar to zombies. Klosterman provides this as a better exploitation of the popularity of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I felt that Klosterman did an excellent job in stating his point and backing it up. His examples were strong proof of his concepts and did not detract from the overall article. Klosterman s transitions were subtle, but were good enough to keep a consistent flow throughout the article. The only time that I felt the article was lacking in direction was the very last part. It highlighted the prepetition of people against zombies, which while still relevant, felt out of place. This did not make it a bad article, just something that I felt was out of ... • 29. Pros And Cons Of The Great Migration The Great Migration North: An Economic Endeavor For the United States of America, a large portion of the twentieth century, 1910 to 1970, was characterized by African American movement from the rural South to the urban, industrial North. During this time, known as the Great Migration, millions of southern blacks moved to the North in hopes of a better future, away from the Jim Crow South where they were under constant threat by white supremacist values and endured an unequal treatment from whites even after Emancipation. However, the principal motive for the blacks of the rural South to leave their homes, families, and friends for the urban North was economic; regional wage differences, limited job opportunities in the South compared to the ... Because they were able to sell 150,000 to 300,000 copies per issue, many people were able to learn about job opportunities in the North. In addition to the work of the labor agents and the black press, an extensive network of family and friends furthered the desire to migrate North. Members of the community would talk in barber shops and grocery stores to learn about transportation, jobs, and housing in the North. Letters, money, and accounts from those who returned to visit the South also gave them an idea of what their future could look like if they choose to migrate to the North. Some formed migration clubs to pool their resources and move in groups to the North while others saved up enough money to send one family member up North, expecting them to make enough money to send the rest of the family up. • 30. When The Wolves Came In The Gettin Analysis Constant separation and tension between blacks and whites is at the forefront of Kyle Abraham s When the Wolves Came In. Performed first in 2015, the piece consists of three narratives including When the Wolves Came In, Hallowed, and The Gettin . This reflection and interpretation will be solely based on the third installment of the piece. The Gettin brings racial issues into view through the different interactions between each performer and through dancer and background projection relations. The relationship and mood between each performer depending on the others race is extremely prevalent throughout The Gettin . For many portions of the choreography, specifically, when the stage is made up of only African Americans the mood is much more positive and happy. • 31. Letter Writing By A Letter Letter writing is a large part of this chapter playing various different roles. Bechdel first brings up the use of letter writing when she sends a letter home addressing the fact that she might be a lesbian. Although she was unsure of the truth of this statement she still sent a letter home hoping to get a positive response back. This letter triggered a chain of letters between her and her mother. Later in the chapter on page 77 she gets a letter from her mother. Bechdel uses a whole panel to show the letter allowing the viewer to read most of it. This letter looks to have used a type writer and unlike other letters in this chapter seems less personal. Another use of letter writing in this story is when her father was in the army. Bruce and Helen exchanged various letters back and forth during his time in the army mainly discussing the book she had sent him. The way Bechdel incorporates these letters into the composition is an interesting way to fill a panel. Some of the letters take up the whole panel focusing on key parts of the letter. Some letters are part of the panel as a speech balloon. There are also full letters that occupy a large space in a panel. On page 62 and 63 these examples are present. A square panel on 62 shows only Bruce s handwriting. The handwriting represents a sentimental quality. Bechdel might have used his actual letter for this panel. He writes about the book called The Far Side of Paradise sent to him by Helen. The use of fragments of written ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The cause for the mass increase of death can be correlated with the different tactics and strategies used in what would be called before World War II as the Great War. For this report, Melessa defines racism as less favorable treatment in an important institution, like the education or criminal justice system, or market, like a labor, financial, or housing market, solely on the basis of an ascribed characteristic, like age, race, or gender (1). According to the textbook, segregation often leads to social isolation. This occurs because outsiders such as those belonging to the middle and upper working classes avoid these neighborhoods. This avoidance leaves these communities virtually cut off from the larger society and lead to a high occurrence of crime and unemployment (299). Besides these factors, these segregated neighborhoods have poor quality schools, limited medical care, and high rates of infant mortality, substance abuse, and violent crime (299). All factors that diminish chances of upward mobility. That is, a lack of education and high exposure to crime and substance abuse does not provide much in the way of opportunity. The report states that Social exclusion remains among the largest problems in our wealthy society, and one of the most troubling with respect to economic mobility (5). This could be due to a lack of acknowledgement of the problem. The report also states that, there is a disparity by race in perceptions of the prevalence of discrimination, with whites less likely than blacks to view discrimination as a problem (4). As long as there is a victim there is a crime, no matter how much its prevalence is denied, institutional racism continues to promote unequal opportunity among the African American population in America. Based on the information examined in the report, racism does in fact hinder the upward mobility of African Americans. Racist practices towards blacks in the capitalist housing market strikingly lessons prospects of upward mobility by promoting racially segregated neighborhoods that offer less in the way of social infrastructure, such as schools and hospitals and subject residents to crime and ... FIFA must lead by example, they need to become more active in demonstrating the core value of leadership. How can we expect the football world to make the right decisions and to be honest in their ways of business if the main organization of football isn t doing so themselves? Lastly, we believe FIFA needs to master the core value of maturity. If we are expecting maturity when it comes to how players handle a bad call on the field, then we should also expect it of the largest organization of the sport itself, FIFA. If something were to go wrong in the future, whether it is with a player, board member, vice president, etc., FIFA should be mature about the situation and handle it properly and correct it. In light of recent events that put the reputation of FIFA into question, our goal is to bring reforms that will restore FIFA as an organization built on honesty and friendly competition. In order to combat the alleged corruption throughout FIFA, our first objective is to create a decentralized system of authority. • 39. Important Aspects Of A Functioning Classroom Essay Through this past semester, we heavily discussed the important aspects of a functioning classroom, from different theorists to helpful teaching techniques. We ve debated what it means to be a great teacher. I believe most of the theories we discussed could be incorporated much more in the classroom. John Dewey, Friedrich Froebel, Maria Montessori, and Lev Vygotsky all understood the way children think and the importance of imaginative play. They also understood that children need to be active in nature. Also, we have discussed different forms of learning, such as project based learning, team teaching, and outdoor classrooms. In my opinion, the education system should have changes that benefit the students needs. They re not getting the most out of their education. Children are active, curious, extremely social, literal, and more intelligent than they are given credit for. They can easily pick up the atmosphere of any environment they are in, if something is off they may not understand it, but they will know. Children want to learn, explore, and be involved. Teaching styles that work best for children are hands on approaches, present new information in small, clear steps, ask many questions and discuss answers deeply. Provide scaffolding, and provide diagrams, maps, models, and handouts. These teaching styles work best because students are doing and seeing something. Students can hold a piece of paper and listen to what is on it by the teacher. They can see the diagrams and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. The American Dream In I Hear America Singing By Walt Whitman During this era the American dream was the notion that a man could create a successful life for himself and his family. As discussed earlier, America effectively isolated women and African Americans, therefore they had no way to make a living to support themselves. A prime example of this would be in the poem I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman. Whitman describes the sound of America as one of hard work produced by workers. He writes, the carpenter singing his as he measures his plank or beam (Whitman 3). It illustrates the hard work that Americans put into their careers, and their willingness to support the nation s economy. No African Americans appear in the poem, and Whitman describes women working in the house. Once again, the exclusivity of the nation only allows white males to have a chance of achieving a pleasant, stable life. At this time, a majority of African Americans remained enslaved across the Nation, which prohibited them from being able to build any sort of life for themselves. Therefore the American Dream is not even an option for almost a quarter of the population. How could someone prohibited from leaving a plantation be able to support themselves and live an acceptable life? For almost all African Americans the idea was unthinkable until the later half of the 1860 s when the government abolished slavery. When it comes to women, however, one could say that living the American dream was possible. Women in America worked in the home cleaning, cooking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
