The Journey Of Ibn Fattouma By Naguib Gibran s On Crime...
Culture is a shared set of beliefs, values, goals, and attitudes within a social, racial, or religious group.
Someone s culture is easily shown, even if in only in the slightest ways. The things people say, their
specific beliefs, or the choices they make can give a deep insight into someone s culture. I feel that
culture, in one way or another, is clearly presented in On Crime and Punishment by Khalil Gibran as
well as The Journey of Ibn Fattouma , by Naguib Mahfouz. On Crime and Punishment by Khalil
Gibran discusses how crimes are committed, but there is almost always more to the story. Even though
this is Arabic literature, I feel that this applies to many cultures. In most cultures, including mine, we

On the way, he meets an old man who is supposed to help him get to the land of Gebel, but first he
must join the other followers to prepare for the journey. I feel that culture is shown within this part of
the text because all of the followers of the old man sit with him each day to listen and sing. The
groups shared behavior and belief that by doing this, they will be prepared to go to the land of Gebel
shows culture within that community. Each day they do the same thing because it is what they all
know and believe and that is exactly what culture is. It also shows an insight into how the culture
teaches people to respect their elders. The people are following and listening to the old man because
he is old and considered wiser than everyone else. This is a common belief among many cultures. In
the end of the text, I think it also shows how people can choose to break away from their culture. It
may be that it no longer benefits them or they are just tired of conforming to that culture s standards.
Specifically referring to the text, the group leaves to go to the land of Gebel even though they are not
fully prepared for the journey. Due to certain circumstances, they are told to leave their land.
However, they made that final choice to leave, even though the old man said they were not yet ready.
They made the conscious decision to break away from what they know,

Differences Between The Disney Movie Hercules And The...
Michael Spera October 1, 2014 Christopher Parker GNHU 285 The average viewer might not notice
but there are a lot of differences between the Disney movie Hercules and the actual Greek myth. The
reason being that Disney was targeting a younger audience with their movie and did not want to
obviously put in some of the more graphic content of the actual myth. Some of the main differences
are that in the Greek myth Hercules has a very short temper and usually has anger issues. These anger
issues often get people accidentally killed. In the Disney movie he is shown to be very nice and calm,
this is done because they want him to seem more endearing and what parent would want their kid to
look up to and angry ill tempered man. The movie portrays him to be unconfident and very shy, this is
only done to make him more relatable to the audience. In the Greek myth he is ... Show more content

In the movie Hercules was born a god, and loved by his parents Zeus and Hera. In the myth his father
is Zeus, but his mother was a mortal named Alcmene, so he is really a demi god which means half god

into a fit of rage caused by Hera, this rage causes him to accidentally kill Megara and their children.
Hercules wants his sins forgiven so In horror and remorse at his deed Hercules would have slain
himself, but he was told by the oracle at Delphi that he should purge himself by becoming the servant
of his cousin Eurystheus, king of Mycenae. Eurystheus, urged on by Hera, devised as a penance the 12

Awana Personal Narrative
I grew up in a Christian home, with both my parents fully devoted to their faith. They would take me
to church every Sunday and I would learn so much about this person named God. They also took me
to Sparks, Cubbies, Awanas, TNT and eventually youth group. So I grew up knowing so much about
God and memorizing scripture through the Awana programs. Also I remember every other morning
waking up early in the morning, before my dad had to go to work, to my dad singing out so loud,
Devotions, Devotions! and we would learn about something new that morning, give or take if I was
actually awake to learn. A thing that was cool that I really liked about those devotions was when my
dad would tell us verses to remember he would sing them to us so that

Prevention Of The Periodontal Disease
Many people are diagnosis with heart disease or suffer from a heart condition each year. Heart disease
or cardiovascular disease is developed over time caused via clogged arteries, abnormal heart rhythm,
birth defects, excessive smoking, and even excessive consumption of lipids. An assumption of how
cardiovascular disease is developed could be associated with periodontal disease. In the study of the
periodontal, periodontal disease is inflammation of the surrounding tissue of the gums, teeth, and
supporting structures. Scientific studies have shown a slight correlation between cardiovascular
disease and periodontal disease but none are said to be politically one hundred percent correct.

Even though every individual responds differently to the bacteria build up, it is still a critical factor
and cause most of the problems within the periodontium. The bacteria in the plaque produces and
release enzymes and toxins and destroys the supporting tissues and lowers the host defenses.
Individuals are encouraged to practice good oral hygiene such as brushing and flossing, visit their
dentist regularly, and consume a good eating habit to reduce the risk of periodontal disease. Scientists
and researchers try to develop a correlation between both periodontal disease and cardiovascular
disease. There are a hundreds of studies comparing the two stating that some forms of heart disease
can form or worsen with in individuals whom have periodontal disease. Since with periodontal
disease, the bacteria build up from plaque can be ingested into the blood stream and arteries, forming
clots causing coronary heart problems. There is no direct correlation stating that those with
periodontal disease will have cardiovascular. As well, cardiovascular disease is involved with
numerous of problems dealing with the heart and blood vessels. Problems of the heart and blood

A critical analysis of Old Major What are some important things about Old Major? Who or what does
Old Major represent in the book Animal Farm, and what can we learn from this character? Also what
are some key points this character has in the book animal farm? Old Major was a prize winning boar
from the state fair. He was also the leader of animal farm before he was shot and killed by Mr.Jones.
He also came up with the song Beasts of England. His philosophy concerning the tyranny of man is

the humans. The Beasts of England is a demonstration of his rhetorical skills after he teached the

animals sing about five times in proudness. The point in Old Major s thinking is that he begins to
place all the blame on the 2 legged humans for all the animals ills and injuries. Old Major believes
that once they (animal s) remove all mankind then the causes of overworking and hunger will be

Media And Its Impact On The Political Movement Essay
The norm of journalism is to present information or news to the general public via mass media. Thus,
it plays an important part in everyday life. Notwithstanding, media have a vigorous relation with
politics especially among the democratic societies (Fernandez Quijada 2013). Moreover, the media is
also perceived as the fourth estate due to the fact that it able to influence and affects the perceptions of
the general public towards the political movement (Kemp 2013). However, in comparison to the past,
nowadays, the modernisation of technology, the change of social patterns and political conditions
somewhat change how the media works (Gerth Siegert 2012). In their article stated that media
companies are predominantly private owned companies, thus, the media are more to market
orientation. Therefore, the media are not necessarily providing vital information to the general public
(Gerth Siegert 2012). Henceforth, the media commonly utilise the practise of framing to provide
information on political matter to the general public (Hanggli 2012). Framing denotes how the role of
media influences its audiences in interpreting and contemplating on issues provided (Kemp 2013).
Therefore, the purpose of this essay is to analyse how the media presents the overall political contents
in newspaper from the New Zealand Herald dated April 23rd and how framing in the political contents
influences the general public. The advancement and modernisation of technology transform how

The children can become rebellious, if the parents are just strict but do not allow much or high
expectations or do not guide their children, the children may not learn right from wrong themselves.
The child may simply just behave when parents are around. Some strict parents are not open to ideas
and forget to communicate with their children. Which give their children communication problems.
The child will feel less confident and more insecure. The feelings of the child won t be expressed
because he may believe his feelings will be criticized or punished. The children will need someone to

Picasso And Pablo Picasso s The Old Guitarist
Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, it is our thoughts,
emotions, and a personal journal that occasionally comes easier way to communicate what s inside of
the mind. One of Pablo Picasso s most famous artworks and still known worldwide is The Old
Guitarist. Picasso painted this piece of art in the Blue Period that ran from 1901 04. This specific year
is important because the Blue Period of Picasso is when he started painting in the gloomy shades of
blue and blueish green inspired by Picasso s own emotional turmoil and financial struggle. I would say
it was the year where his emotions took over instead of his own hands, which drove him to the highest
limit of creating something impressive. Nonetheless, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Psychological And Psychological Factors Of Terrorism
The ever evolving subject of terrorism and terrorists is the subject of significant study worldwide. The
psychological and behavioral factors involved in terrorism are one of the most studied issues. It has
implications across the board for both the detection and deterrence of terrorism. How terrorists
communicate and the influence that it plays in growing terroristic ideology, mission, and goals are also
of significant importance, as well.
There are many things can be seen in the psychology of terrorism. Unfortunately there is not good
science on psychological factors of terrorism; there are theories and educated opinions (DeAngelis,
2009). The one overarching factor is the fear with which terrorism is based. By definition, terrorism is
acts that cause terror by one group on to another, usually for political goals ( Terrorism , n.d.). Why
people suffer from these fears is related to their psychological behavior. Terrorist activity can be
described as fostering a sense of helplessness and hopelessness, in demonstrating the incompetence of
the authorities, destroying a sense of security and safety, and in provoking inappropriate reactions
from individuals and authorities. (Alexander Klein, 2005). Terrorists themselves are affected by
psychological behavior; their own and that of others around them. They may even be affected by the
behavior of victims and potential victims. Osama Bin Laden has even been known to admit that in the
terrorist organization Al Qaeda, his

Analysis Of The Planets By Gustav Theodore Holst
Gustav Theodore Holst was born on September 21st, 1874 and died on May 25th, 1934 he was an
English composer and teacher. He was best known for The Planets suite, this composition became
famous internationally after World War One. The Planets was composed from 1914 to 1916, it had
seven movements, each of the movements had the Astrological traits of the planets but had no
connections to mythology. The first movement of the suite is Mars Bringer of War which refers to the
God of War. This movement includes various instruments such as tubas, trumpets, trombones, horns,
timpani, flutes, clarinets, violins, cellos, and snare drums. The movement was characterized by five
beats and a minor scale which indicates the opposite of happy. There is no harmonic purpose in the
Bringer of War piece, I would classify it as an inhuman piece of work because war is horrific,
insensible at all costs. The music was suspenseful and tormenting since the beginning, it had a fast
tempo throughout the whole movement. Many dynamics were used all the way through, when the
movement was finishing up many rests kept showing as if war came to an end or was coming to an
end. Mars, Bringer of War gave me an utterly angry, threatening vibe, the combination of the rhythms,
the vibrato of the string instruments and the beats of the drum gave the whole movement a military
essence. Although I believe that the rhythm, in the beginning, was not the same in the end it somehow
slightly changed. Gustav creates

THREE UFOS ON CAMERA
The UFO event was recorded and uploaded to YouTube by user Mister Enigma, who gave his video
the sensational title, UFO Mysteries: UFOs, Angels Or Biological Creatures Seen Leaving The Earth?
This video was allegedly recorded from NASA s live feed from the International Space Station (ISS).
Three objects are seen emerging slowly from the distance, coming from beyond the Earth, or possibly
from the Earth.
These three UFOs gradually move in a seemingly ascending flight path. Two of the objects disappear
from view. But NASA s video stream is interrupted while the third object is still in frame. The feed cut

fantastic flight capabilities or abnormal behavior that makes them any more likely to be alien

Economic Inequality In Business
Inequality in businesses has been a rising problem that has affected our nations society for decades.
Economic inequalities are often referred to as an individuals certain position connected to the persons
income, and wealth. Inequality is how individuals are treated differently and in the business sense this
means by obtaining a job, different income scale and even overall economic level itself. So many
years have passed since slavery, woman rights, and stock market crashes that one might think times
and equality have been squashed. Yet, times have not changed and the problem is still monstrous.
Racial inequality is a continuous problem that has plagued businesses since slavery. Gender inequality
has been ongoing due to societies views on woman roles. Social class differences of high class reaping
all the benefits has always existed since even the 1920s. But the ethnic background, or the gender of
an individual can also relate to the economic inequalities and position held within a company. We have
this inequality threatening different races, genders, and social classes of the business industries.
Inequality in business should be greatly taken into account due to the jeopardization of race, gender,
and social class. Business inequality is threatening the increase of race controversies around the world.
As Al Sharpton often says, we have come a long way from the days of slavery, but in 2014,
discrimination and inequality still saturate our society in modern ways. Its existence is undeniable
(Sharpton 1). Sharpton is an American civil rights activist who attended Brooklyn College. If we look
at just the business spectrum, we see that inequality exists between race; in particular among the
blacks and whites. This is apparent in businesses across the world the discrepancy between the top
business executive of blacks and whites is staggering and so is the disparity between yearly wages and
promotions. According to the 2013 survey of Consumer Finances, business ownership is associated
with a $252,100 increase in wealth for whites, but a $84,523 increase in wealth for African Americans
(Herring 4). Cedric Herring is a professor of sociology at the university of Maryland. He has been a

The Ones Who Walk Away From The By Ursula Le Guin
The topic of Ursula Le Guin s short story The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas is of
conscientiousness. The theme revolves around how people are often willing to excuse awful things if
it s for their own gain. The first element that led me to the theme is the tone of the story. Specifically,
the clashing of the tones between the narrator is describing the city of Omelas and when they are
describing the child and the room he/she is kept in. When describing the city, the tone is very bright
and exultant; the narrator tries their best to make this place sound like the utopia it supposedly is: With
a clamor of bells that set the swallows soaring, the Festival of Summer came to the city Omelas, bright
towered by the sea. The rigging of the boats in harbor sparkled with flags. In the streets between
houses with red roofs and painted walls, between old moss grown gardens and under avenues of trees,
past great parks and public buildings, processions moved, (Guin 1). The picture that is painted here is
one of pure bliss, almost fairy tale like cheerfulness. This is in stark contrast to the dark and dismal
way that the child and the room that they are kept in is described: The floor is dirt, a little damp to the
touch, as cellar dirt usually is. The room is about three paces long and two wide.... The people at the
door never say anything, but the child, who has not always lived in the tool room, and can remember
sunlight and its mother s voice, sometimes speaks. I will be good, it

Sleeping Disorders In Older Adults
Sleep and Sleep Disorders in the Older Adult There are four main reasons why we sleep. The first is
for cardiovascular relaxation which lower blood pressure, lowers heart rate, and lowers metabolic rate.
The second reason is for mental and physical restorative properties. Lack of sleep will then manifest
itself with physical and cognitive side effects such as fatigue, difficulty focusing, slower response
times, memory problems, decreased balance, and decreased ability to perform tasks. The third reason
we sleep is to help with learning. Studies have shown that good sleep prior to taking tests increases
performance. Finally sleep is the only cure for sleepiness. Daytime sleepiness can cause a person to

which exalt the principle of cultural patriotism. This is done in such a way that further intentions can

Critique of Bentham s Quantitative Utilitarianism
Over time, the actions of mankind have been the victim of two vague labels, right and wrong. The
criteria for these labels are not clearly defined, but they still seem to be the standard by which the
actions of man are judged. There are some people that abide by a deontological view when it comes to
judging the nature of actions; the deontological view holds that it is a person s intention that makes an
action right or wrong. On the other hand there is the teleological view which holds that it is the result
of an action is what makes that act right or wrong. In this essay I will be dealing with utilitarianism, a
philosophical principle that holds a teleological view when it comes the nature of actions. To solely

The interest of the community is said to be a sum of the total interests of its several members. It is
never specified what how exactly this total is acquired or even if the members of the community
would agree on whatever is considered the community s interest. If the members would agree then that
means that everyone in the community had the same interest to begin with. If the members would not

attempting to get a total seem like they would cancel each other out which wouldn t make for much of

as pointless to even try to place any kind of concrete value, which brings up another point. What kind
of value are these individual and community interests supposed to have? In order to add things up they
must have some sort of value. Because of Bentham s failure to offer some sort of method for
combining individuals interests and since he failed to offer some sort of concrete value for these
abstract things, his perspective on the interest of the community remains unclear to me.
The second issue that I am going to take up lies in Bentham s method of calculating the general

Into My Own By Robert Frost Essay
Into My Own , by Robert Frost, is a sonnet that explores much more than writing conventions. Frost
writes his sonnet differently than the accepted norm of the time, and his subject is unlike any other:
exploring the identity of a young adult. Frost, as usual, puts a spin on the normal conventions of
poetry. He leans toward the English sonnet, writing in iambic pentameter with fourteen lines separated
into three quatrains a set of four lines and a couplet set apart at the end. However, Frost sets an
unusual rhyme scheme for a sonnet. He rhymes each of his lines in pairs, or couplets. In lines 1 8, the
speaker deals with the idea of adolescent identity ( Into My Own by Robert Frost para. 2). Note that
the title isn t On My Own, which would suggest a need for independence, but Into My Own,
suggesting a transformation from child into mature individual (Literary Analysis into my own para.1).
The speaker is at the edge of adulthood, peeking in on what his future holds. He has traveled, and now
he is home to begin the rest of his life. He understands that he is now venturing into [his] own ( Into

He does not want to be an adult, but feels compelled to at least act like one. He is being sucked into a
vacuum of identity ( Into My Own ... para. 2). The last two lines are a couplet set aside from the

true (lines 13, 14). In this couplet, the speaker wonders if anyone will even see a difference in between
his adolescent self and his new found adult self, now that he has seen the world and confirmed its
possibilities. He quickly assures himself that there is no difference between his two

Grant s Defense Strategies In The Battle Of Cold Harbor
In the battle of Cold Harbor, Grant planned to attack General Robert E. Lee s army to remove him

The Complicated Relationship Between The Black And White...
The Complicated Relationship between the Black and White Americans
Amiri Baraka s play the Dutchman is a portrayal about the interactions between the two major
characters Lula and Clay. The two came from different races, whereas Clay is a twenty year old
African American, while Lula on her thirties is a white woman. It all started when Lula had the
courage to approach Clay, accusing the latter intent of staring from the window of a train. In their
conversation, it demonstrates how Lula was trying to manipulate the situation, depicting the
relationship between the two races and the problem about stereotyping. In the play, Lula first appeared
as a beautiful and attractive white woman with an apple at her hand (Baraka, 1). Somehow, if her
character will be interpreted based on Biblical teaching, it appears that she is more like a temptress
like Eve. Although, Lula only met Clay for the first time, but she acted like knowing everything about
the latter. She even mocked and insulted Clay, especially with regards to his intellect and clothing.
Through this portrayal, the Lula was trying to reveal her true nature as a rude individual, and there is
no way Clay could approach her on the same footing.
The Dutchman as a Play
Clearly, the character of Lula represents the White people and their racist attributes. Through her
actions alone, she was trying to show herself as more powerful than Clay.
Meanwhile, the character of Clay is the opposite of Lula, considering that he is an

Normative Theories And Moral Obligations
Normative Theories: Ethical and Moral Obligations
The ability to apply morality to the resolution of life s ethical issues in an appropriate manner has been
the focus of philosophers for centuries. Morality, can be best defined as to what degree any action or
inaction is deemed right or wrong, good or bad. However, the meaning of right and wrong, along with
the application of these beliefs have been the catalyst for much debate spawning what is known as
normative theory. The analysis of complex ethical issues found in common scenarios require the
application of normative theories. Normative theories define the concept of right and wrong. There are

Hyperthermia and Hypothermia
If your body gains heat at a faster rate than it can lose heat you will get hyperthermia. Fever;

The body has systems to control its temperature at normal levels which react in hot conditions but in
prolonged hot humid conditions you can get heat exhaustion. The systems are unable to control
normal levels and heavy sweating will cause dehydration; low blood pressure; low blood volume and
an increase in heart rate. People with heat exhaustion usually feel cool to the touch because of all the
sweating. They will also feel weak; dizzy and sick. Moving to a cooler place; resting muscles and

Malthusian view stated that Human Population grows exponentially while the resources consumed by
the population (mainly food) grows linearly. Thereby, there would be a time when the Population
would exceed the supply of food, and thereby would die off due to Famine like situation (positive

(negative checks). Malthus is his essay also states that parents must produce only as many children as

Ticket Sales May Not Be The Majority Of An Organization
Ticket sales may not be the majority of an organization s revenue, but it can be one of the most
important departments. A professional sports team s fan base affects factors from merchandise and
memorabilia sales to on the field factors like home field advantage. Ticket sales get fans into the
venue where they can spend more money and create an atmosphere for the team to succeed. The
Ticket Operations text talks about some good characteristics of a good pricing plan. When setting
prices for tickets you do not want to set ticket prices too low because the value of them will be
squandered and you will set the expectations of prices to be the same moving forward. If you set
prices to high, you risk losing fans to alternatives, like online services such as Stubhub and

After purchasing tickets, fans get tickets to come enjoy a game, but once they are in you expose them
to other revenue sources. They have the opportunity to spend their money on merchandise,
concessions and even tickets to future games. There are even revenue sources before they walk into

I talk to the students about the school and many seem to really like it and all of them seem to be very
intelligent. When we finish eating the children show us how to properly dispose of any leftovers and
put our dishes away. They have a compost pile for their garden so they want to make sure we dispose
of it correctly. When that s done we stand outside of the dinning hall with the students and say
goodbye. We head back to The Jeweled Hall of 10,000 Buddhas where it is meditation time. The
monks are kneeling on the pillows and chanting. We sit and observe quietly for a little and them set
out quiet and thank our tour guide for the amazing

Jane Eyre
Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre emerges with a unique voice in the Victorian period for the work posits
itself as a sentimental novel; however, it deliberately becomes unable to fulfill the genre, and then, it
creates an altogether divergent novel that demonstrates its superiority by adding depth of structure in
narration and character portrayal. Joan D. Peters essay, Finding a Voice: Towards a Woman s
Discourse of Dialogue in the Narration of Jane Eyre positions Gerard Genette s theory of convergence,
which is that the movement of the fiction towards a confluence of protagonist and narrator, is limited
as the argument does not fully flesh out the parodies that Charlotte Bronte incorporates into her work.
I will argue that in the novel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reed, which I cannot do: I should bless her son John, which is impossible. ... is not Mrs. Reed a hard
hearted, bad woman? She has been unkind to you, no doubt, because, you see, she dislikes your cast of
character, as Miss Scatcherd does mine; but how minutely you remember all she has done and said to
you! What a singularly deep impression her injustice seems to have made on your heart! No ill usage
so brands its record on my feelings. Would you not be happier if you tried to forget her severity,
together with the passionate emotions it excited? (69)
Helen communicates in an elegant restrained form to the protagonist that all of Jane s passion is
unvirtuous as this perspective lacks insight in contrast with Jane who impulsively voices contempt to
Helen for being deficient in natural passion. Her dialogue speaks of love and blessing that should be
returned to individuals that desire to harm her. She uses questions in this passage to suggest her
superior language skill set. Burns may quote the Bible, may hold in high regard Miss Scatcherd and
may espouse the stereotypical masculine traits of a novel, such as, well polished diction, restraint of
feeling, an emphasis on action, and a strong, seemingly objective, often directly interposing, authorial
narrative command (Peters 224), yet she loses her natural voice. Moreover, Burns voice becomes
stilted as it has discarded the poignant beauty of language in favor of

The 7 Deadly Sins and 7 Cardinal Virtues
The 7 Deadly Sins and 7 Cardinal Virtues
========================================
Overview
The Seven Deadly Sins , also known as the Capital Vices or Cardinal Sins , are a classification of
vices that were originally used in early Christian teachings to educate and instruct followers
concerning (immoral) fallen man s tendency to sin. The Roman Catholic Church divided sin into two
principal categories: venial , which are relatively minor, and could be forgiven through any sacrament
of the Church, and the more severe capital or mortal sins, which, when committed, destroyed the life
of grace, and created the threat of eternal damnation unless either absolved through the sacrament of
confession, or otherwise forgiven ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Substance abuse or binge drinking can be seen as examples of gluttony therefore. The penitents in the
Purgatorio were forced to stand between two trees, unable to reach or eat the fruit hanging from either,
and were thus described as having a starved appearance.
== Greed (Latin: avaritia)
Synonyms: Greed (treachery, covetousness)
Greed is, like Lust and Gluttony, a sin of excess. However, Greed (as seen by the Church) applied to
the acquisition of wealth in particular. Thomas Aquinas wrote that Greed was a sin against God, just as
all mortal sins, in as much as man condemns things eternal for the sake of temporal things. In Dante s
Purgatory, the penitents were bound and laid face down on the ground for having concentrated too
much on earthly thoughts. Avarice is more of a blanket term that can describe many other examples of
sinful behavior. These include disloyalty, deliberate betrayal, or treason, especially for personal gain,
for example through bribery. Scavenging and hoarding of materials or objects, theft and robbery,
especially by means of violence, trickery, or manipulation of authority are all actions that may be
inspired by greed. Such misdeeds can include Simony, where one profits from soliciting goods within
the actual confines of a church.
== Sloth (Latin: acedia)
Synonyms: Sloth (laziness, sadness, apathy)
More than other sins, the definition of Sloth has changed considerably since its original inclusion
among The Seven Deadly Sins. It

Costa Rica Comparison
Costa Rica is an absolutely beautiful country. It is full of tropical flowers, trees, fruits, and animals.
The waters are the bluest of blue and the landscape is the greenest that I have ever seen. There are also
beautiful volcanos and mountain ranges throughout Costa Rica. It was extremely fascinating to me
how different Costa Rica is compared to the United States not only in looks but also in culture and
history. Geography While in Costa Rica my team visited the cities of San Jose, Limon, Talamanca,
and Puerto Viejo. All of these cities lie on the southeastern side of Costa Rica next to the Caribbean
Sea. The differences in the beaches was extremely interesting to me. While we were in Talamanca, the
beach was fairly dirty but private. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here in the United States our culture is fairly consistent. When one visits another state there may be
some differences in the way things are done, but definitely not drastic differences in culture. While my
team was in Costa Rica I felt as if I had visited three different countries. The cultures of San Jose,
Talamanca, and Puerto Viejo are completely different. When my team arrived in San Jose the first
thing that I noticed was the culture. It was completely different from the United States. The people
were extremely inviting and accepting. The city was not as loud as a city in the United States either.
There were no sirens or horns honking. In fact, most cars were off the road by about eight o clock in
the evening. According to Pedro, our guide and translator, most Costa Rican s go to sleep around nine
in the evening and start their day around five in the morning. Talamanca was extremely laid back. It
reminded me a lot of a Mennonite community. Most people in the village did not drive cars but instead
rode horses. Ninety percent of their food is home grown including fruits, vegetables, and butter. There
is a truck that comes through the village every morning with chicken and fresh eggs, but other than
that their meat is caught. The people of Talamanca look out for each other. It is extremely community
oriented, but also nature oriented. For example, while the team was walking on the beach we stopped

  • 2. The Journey Of Ibn Fattouma By Naguib Gibran s On Crime... Culture is a shared set of beliefs, values, goals, and attitudes within a social, racial, or religious group. Someone s culture is easily shown, even if in only in the slightest ways. The things people say, their specific beliefs, or the choices they make can give a deep insight into someone s culture. I feel that culture, in one way or another, is clearly presented in On Crime and Punishment by Khalil Gibran as well as The Journey of Ibn Fattouma , by Naguib Mahfouz. On Crime and Punishment by Khalil Gibran discusses how crimes are committed, but there is almost always more to the story. Even though this is Arabic literature, I feel that this applies to many cultures. In most cultures, including mine, we are very quick to point the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the way, he meets an old man who is supposed to help him get to the land of Gebel, but first he must join the other followers to prepare for the journey. I feel that culture is shown within this part of the text because all of the followers of the old man sit with him each day to listen and sing. The groups shared behavior and belief that by doing this, they will be prepared to go to the land of Gebel shows culture within that community. Each day they do the same thing because it is what they all know and believe and that is exactly what culture is. It also shows an insight into how the culture teaches people to respect their elders. The people are following and listening to the old man because he is old and considered wiser than everyone else. This is a common belief among many cultures. In the end of the text, I think it also shows how people can choose to break away from their culture. It may be that it no longer benefits them or they are just tired of conforming to that culture s standards. Specifically referring to the text, the group leaves to go to the land of Gebel even though they are not fully prepared for the journey. Due to certain circumstances, they are told to leave their land. However, they made that final choice to leave, even though the old man said they were not yet ready. Michael Spera October 1, 2014 Christopher Parker GNHU 285 The average viewer might not notice but there are a lot of differences between the Disney movie Hercules and the actual Greek myth. The reason being that Disney was targeting a younger audience with their movie and did not want to obviously put in some of the more graphic content of the actual myth. Some of the main differences are that in the Greek myth Hercules has a very short temper and usually has anger issues. These anger issues often get people accidentally killed. In the Disney movie he is shown to be very nice and calm, this is done because they want him to seem more endearing and what parent would want their kid to look up to and angry ill tempered man. The psychological and behavioral factors involved in terrorism are one of the most studied issues. It has implications across the board for both the detection and deterrence of terrorism. How terrorists communicate and the influence that it plays in growing terroristic ideology, mission, and goals are also of significant importance, as well. There are many things can be seen in the psychology of terrorism. Unfortunately there is not good science on psychological factors of terrorism; there are theories and educated opinions (DeAngelis, 2009). The one overarching factor is the fear with which terrorism is based. By definition, terrorism is acts that cause terror by one group on to another, usually for political goals ( Terrorism , n.d.). Why people suffer from these fears is related to their psychological behavior. Terrorist activity can be described as fostering a sense of helplessness and hopelessness, in demonstrating the incompetence of the authorities, destroying a sense of security and safety, and in provoking inappropriate reactions from individuals and authorities. He was best known for The Planets suite, this composition became famous internationally after World War One. The Planets was composed from 1914 to 1916, it had seven movements, each of the movements had the Astrological traits of the planets but had no connections to mythology. The first movement of the suite is Mars Bringer of War which refers to the God of War. This movement includes various instruments such as tubas, trumpets, trombones, horns, timpani, flutes, clarinets, violins, cellos, and snare drums. The movement was characterized by five beats and a minor scale which indicates the opposite of happy. There is no harmonic purpose in the Bringer of War piece, I would classify it as an inhuman piece of work because war is horrific, insensible at all costs. The music was suspenseful and tormenting since the beginning, it had a fast tempo throughout the whole movement. Many dynamics were used all the way through, when the movement was finishing up many rests kept showing as if war came to an end or was coming to an end. Mars, Bringer of War gave me an utterly angry, threatening vibe, the combination of the rhythms, the vibrato of the string instruments and the beats of the drum gave the whole movement a military essence. Economic inequalities are often referred to as an individuals certain position connected to the persons income, and wealth. Inequality is how individuals are treated differently and in the business sense this means by obtaining a job, different income scale and even overall economic level itself. So many years have passed since slavery, woman rights, and stock market crashes that one might think times and equality have been squashed. Yet, times have not changed and the problem is still monstrous. Racial inequality is a continuous problem that has plagued businesses since slavery. Gender inequality has been ongoing due to societies views on woman roles. Social class differences of high class reaping all the benefits has always existed since even the 1920s. But the ethnic background, or the gender of an individual can also relate to the economic inequalities and position held within a company. We have this inequality threatening different races, genders, and social classes of the business industries. Inequality in business should be greatly taken into account due to the jeopardization of race, gender, and social class. Business inequality is threatening the increase of race controversies around the world. As Al Sharpton often says, we have come a long way from the days of slavery, but in 2014, discrimination and inequality still saturate our society in modern ways. Its existence is undeniable (Sharpton 1). Sharpton is an American civil rights activist who attended Brooklyn College. If we look at just the business spectrum, we see that inequality exists between race; in particular among the blacks and whites. This is apparent in businesses across the world the discrepancy between the top business executive of blacks and whites is staggering and so is the disparity between yearly wages and promotions. According to the 2013 survey of Consumer Finances, business ownership is associated with a $252,100 increase in wealth for whites, but a $84,523 increase in wealth for African Americans (Herring 4). The theme revolves around how people are often willing to excuse awful things if it s for their own gain. The first element that led me to the theme is the tone of the story. Specifically, the clashing of the tones between the narrator is describing the city of Omelas and when they are describing the child and the room he/she is kept in. When describing the city, the tone is very bright and exultant; the narrator tries their best to make this place sound like the utopia it supposedly is: With a clamor of bells that set the swallows soaring, the Festival of Summer came to the city Omelas, bright towered by the sea. The rigging of the boats in harbor sparkled with flags. In the streets between houses with red roofs and painted walls, between old moss grown gardens and under avenues of trees, past great parks and public buildings, processions moved, (Guin 1). The picture that is painted here is one of pure bliss, almost fairy tale like cheerfulness. This is in stark contrast to the dark and dismal way that the child and the room that they are kept in is described: The floor is dirt, a little damp to the touch, as cellar dirt usually is. The room is about three paces long and two wide.... The Complicated Relationship between the Black and White Americans Amiri Baraka s play the Dutchman is a portrayal about the interactions between the two major characters Lula and Clay. The two came from different races, whereas Clay is a twenty year old African American, while Lula on her thirties is a white woman. It all started when Lula had the courage to approach Clay, accusing the latter intent of staring from the window of a train. In their conversation, it demonstrates how Lula was trying to manipulate the situation, depicting the relationship between the two races and the problem about stereotyping. In the play, Lula first appeared as a beautiful and attractive white woman with an apple at her hand (Baraka, 1). Somehow, if her character will be interpreted based on Biblical teaching, it appears that she is more like a temptress like Eve. Although, Lula only met Clay for the first time, but she acted like knowing everything about the latter. She even mocked and insulted Clay, especially with regards to his intellect and clothing. Through this portrayal, the Lula was trying to reveal her true nature as a rude individual, and there is no way Clay could approach her on the same footing.
