Wireless communication involves the transmission of information over a distance without the help of wires, cables or any other forms of electrical conductors.
Wireless communication is a broad term that incorporates all procedures and forms of connecting and communicating between two or more devices using a wireless signal through wireless communication technologies and devices.
Features of Wireless Communication
The evolution of wireless technology has brought many advancements with its effective features.
The transmitted distance can be anywhere between a few meters (for example, a television's remote control) and thousands of kilometers (for example, radio communication).
Wireless communication can be used for cellular telephony, wireless access to the internet, wireless home networking, and so on.
3. Introduction To Network
A network consist of two or more devices that are linked in order to share
resources and they can communicate.
Why networking?
Sharing Communications
Sharing Hardware or Software
Centralize administration and support
The networking devices are playing main role in creating a network.
Eg: Hubs Switch
Routers Modem
NIC Repeaters
4. Platforms Of Networking System
• Client / Server
• Peer- To - Peer
Clients / Server
Clients requests (for file or any resource) the server will respond.
Usually clients are desktop computers with their own local storage and OS.
Centralized management help in administering the whole setup.
Easy to backup data and when data lost happen it can be recovered easily and
efficiently.
5. Peer -To – Peer
A peer-to-peer network is a group of computers, each of which act as a node for sharing files
within the group, each computer act as the server for the files upon it.
Each computer is responsible for their resources like files or any other resources.
There is no need for full time administration.
In peer-to-peer network, all nodes are act as servers and as well as client therefore no need for
dedicated server.
6. Networking Devices
Hubs
Hubs do not read any of data passing through them and are not
aware of their source or destination.
Hubs work at the physical layer of the OSI model.
The newer types of hubs offered 10 Mbps and 100 mbps capabilities.
7. Switch
A switch enabling network devices to talk to talk to each other
efficiently through sharing information and resources.
Switches manage the flow of data across network by transmitting a
received network packet only to the one or more devices for which
the packet is intended.
Features of Switch
Easy to configure
Easy to manage
Energy efficiency
Support for multiple native languages.
9. Routers
• Router is a hardware device designed to receive, analyze and move incoming packets (data)
to another network.
• A router may include firewall, VPN handling and other security functions and the router is a
network layer in the OSI reference model.
• A data packet is typically forward from one router to another router through the networks.
Features of Router
o Routers haveWPA /WPA2 personal security
o Virtual Private Network Capability.
o Every router includes a firewall.
o Fast data transfer rate.
10. Modem
Modem is a short form for Modulator / Demodulator.
Modems translate digital signals from a computer into analog signals that travel to
conventional phone lines or encode digital information for transmission and
demodulates signals to decode the transmitted information.
Features of Modem
The maximum speed of modem is 56 Kbps.
Auto answering
Fax Capability
Voice or Data communication.
11. NIC
• A Network Interface Card (NIC) provides the computer with dedicated full
time connection.
• It is in the circuit board or card that is installed in a computer so that can
connect to the network.
When choosing NIC the factor will consider:
Performance
Configuration
Compatibility
Sending and controlling data
12. Repeaters
It is a device that receives a digital signal on an
electromagnetically or optical transmission medium
and regenerates the signal along the next leg of the
medium.
An important point to be noted about the repeaters
is that they do not amplify the signal.
Features of Repeater
Regenerates the original bit pattern.
It works on the physical Layer.
Repeater forwards the refreshed signal.
