2. Whatare3DShapes?
3D shapes are solidshapes or objects that have three dimensions (whichare length, width,
and height), as opposed to two-dimensional objects which have only a lengthand a
width. Other important terms associated with 3D geometric shape are faces, edges, and
vertices. They have depth and so they occupy some volume. Some 3D shapes have their
bases or cross-sections as 2D shapes. For example, a cube has all its faces in the shape of a
square. Let us nowlearn about each 3-dimensional shape (3Dshape) in detail. 3D shapes
are classifiedinto several categories. Some of themhave curvedsurfaces; some are in the
shape of pyramids or prisms.

3. Real-LifeExamplesof3DGeometricShapes
In mathematics, we study 3-dimensional
objects in the concept of solids and try to
apply them in real life. Some real-life
examples of 3D shapes are shown here
which are a soccer ball, a cube, a bucket,
and a book.

4. Whatisthenetofa3Dshape?
The net of a 3D shape is what it looks like if it is
opened out flat. A net can be folded up to make a
3D shape. There may be several possible nets for
one 3D shape. You can draw a net on paper, then
fold it into the shape.

There are many 3 dimensional shapes (3D shapes) that have different bases, volumes,
and surface areas. Let us discuss each one of them.

All prisms are made up of two of the base shapes along withrectangles.
