Polygons (its meaning, nature and types) for grade v

  1. 1. A polygon is a plane shape with straight sides. I’m not a polygon!
  2. 2. Polygons are 2- Polygon comes dimensional from Greek. Polyshapes. They are made of straight means "many" and -gon means lines, and the "angle". shape is "closed" (all the lines connect up).
  3. 3. Is it a Polygon?
  4. 4. CORRECT THIS IS A POLYGON!
  5. 5. How about this? THIS IS NOT A POLYGON!
  6. 6. THIS IS NOT ALSO A POLYGON!
  7. 7. There are different TYPES OF POLYGON
  8. 8. Regular or Irregular If all angles are equal and all sides are equal, then it is regular, otherwise it is irregular REGULAR IRREGULAR
  9. 9. Concave or Convex A convex polygon has no angles pointing inwards. More precisely, no internal angle can be more than 180°. If any internal angle is greater than 180° then the polygon is concave. (Think: concave has a "cave" in it)
  10. 10. CONVEX CONCAVE
  11. 11. Simple or Complex A simple polygon has only one boundary, and it doesn't cross over itself. A complex polygon intersects itself! Many rules about polygons don't work when it is complex.
  12. 12. Simple Polygon (this one's a Pentagon) Complex Polygon (also a Pentagon)
