Basic structure of a nerve cell
• Neuron/Nerve cell - The functional unit of the
nervous system
• Cell body – integrates the message
• Dendrites - are highly branched extensions
that receive signals from other neurons and
convey this information toward the cell body
• Axon - typically a much longer extension that

• The myelin sheath, resembles a chain of
