Introduction
Advances in technology have had a profound effect on
the way we learn & the way we teach.
Tasneem
Technology
• It is the branch of knowledge that deals
with the creation and use of technical
means and their interrelation with life,
society, and the environment, drawing
upon such subject as industrial arts,
engineering, applied science, and pure
science.
Tasneem
What is Technology?
• Technology is the sum of techniques, skills, methods, and processes used in
the production of goods or services or in the accomplishment of objectives,
such as scientific investigation.
• Technology isthe making, usage and knowledge of tools, machine,
techniques, crafts and system of organization to solve problems.
• W. Brian Arthur defines technology in a similarly broad way as
"a means to fulfill a human purpose”
Tasneem
What is Technology?
Technology is the use of scientific knowledge for practical
purposes or applications, whether in industry or in our
everyday lives. So, basically, whenever we use our
scientific knowledge to achieve some specific purpose,
we're using technology.
• Technology usually involves a specific piece of
equipment, but that equipment can be incredibly simple
or dazzlingly complex. It can be anything from the
discovery of the wheel, all the way up to computers and
MP3 players.
Tasneem
What does Instructional
Technology mean?
Instructional technology is a specific technology field
that deals with creating resources for learning.
The knowledge and application of instructional
theories, strategies, techniques, and tools to
design, develop, and deliver instruction
The nature of instructional technology is traced back to
academics like B.B. Seels and R.C. Ritchie, who defined it
as "the theory and practice of design, development,
utilization, management and evaluation of processes
and resources for learning."
Tasneem
Information technology vs
Instructional technology
• Instructional technology is not the same as information
technology, although both are commonly abbreviated as IT.
Whereas information technology is a broad-based,
overarching category of technology very familiar to the
business community, instructional technology is a bit more
obscure. Experts also point out that instructional technology
is not synonymous with digital training. Instead, it is a body of
theory about a field of technology that has various
characteristics including applied intellectual techniques,
established disciplines and academic value.

Why Use Technology?
Influence student academic performance
Develop higher order thinking and problem solving
Improve student motivation, attitude, and interest in
learning
Help to prepare students for the workforce
Address the needs of low performing, at-risk, and
learning disabled students

When Does Technology Work?
Directly supports the curriculum objectives
Provides opportunities for student collaboration
Adjusts for student ability and prior experiences, and provides
feedback
Is integrated into the instructional day
Provides opportunities for students to design and implement
projects
Is used in environments where teachers, the school community,
and the district support the use of technology
Tasneem
Need of instructional
technology
• instructional technology allows the teacher to determine how to best integrate technology with the various
learning styles that would be effective in teaching every student in the class.
• Teachers should try to find avenues that would allow them to help all students master the intended
curriculum
• Technology is the bridge between the teacher and the students. Its utilization in class is an indicator of what
education will be like for future generations.
 Motivates
 Provides Unique Instructional Capabilities

We use to view, store, send, and
receive information, not only
help with presenting lessons but
also with management and
organization. computer will be
used for preparing lesson plans,
completing grade book, checking
email, preparing letters etc. The
computer also serves as the main
connector to all of your other
technology.
Tasneem
EMAIL
Teachers and students worldwide are beginning to use this ability to talk
to each other. E-mailing back and forth with another classroom also
provides excellent opportunities for students to practice writing skills
for a real-life purpose.
Tasneem
World Wide Web
(WWW)
• It is an open source information space where documents & other web
resources are identified by URLs, interlinked by hypertext links & can be
assisted via internet.
• The use of World Wide Web as an instructional tool is gaining momentum.
Tasneem
E-LEARNING (ELECTRONIC
LEARNING)
• E-learning is use of technology based tools & processes to
provide for customized learning anytime or anywhere.
• Electronic learning is a type of education where the medium of
instruction is computer technology.

Smart Boards Or Interactive White
Boards
• An interactive whiteboard is a large display that
connects to a computer and a projector. The projector
projects the computer's desktop onto the board's
surface.
• They were developed by PARC around 1990.
• They can play various types of media and provide
teachers with interactive lessons for their students
• Interactive white boards have various facilities to draw,
show video ,images, illustrations, maps, graphs, games
