Pre-Requisites : Engineering Drawing
Rational : This module will provide the basic knowledge and skills to communicate
and receive technical ideas without ambiguity.
Assessment Method : AE
Aim of the module :
In accordance with the pre-requisites, the students should posses, basic
knowledge and skills in preparation of drawings. On this ground following aims are
expected of this unit.
a) To develop ability to produce simple working drawings depicting construction
details and information, in accordance with general practice in industry.
b) To develop ability to interpret, information presented in construction drawings.
c) To develop ability to translate sketched information into scaled detail drawings.

SPECIAL NOTES
a) Students should be encouraged to develop their skill is producing proper, accurate
drawings using pencil.
b). Section 1. though not assessed, should be covered prior to, and as an inherent
part of the whole syllabus.
c) Under the section on construction details, a minimum of 15 drawing sheets should
be compiled to represent the given content. To carryout this properly, a close co-
ordination with the instructor in "Building Construction" should be maintained.
d) Section 3 in the unit is mainly associated with the aim C above and the. students
should be given roughs sketches and information by the instructor, so that they
are able to produce accurate drawings to required standards.

2. e) Time allocation given is, 30 hours, and actually this should be considered as
class-contact hours. Students may definitely require some additional time to
complete their work.
f) Suggested method of assessment together with an end test of three hour
duration. Weighting of marks for final assessment should be considered as 60%
and 40% respectively.
INFORMATION IN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY.
01. Understand the specific role and the importance of accurate drawings, in the field
of construction.
1.1 Describe various types of drawing used i n different engineering fields in
construction industry.
a) Buildings
b) Building Services
c) Irrigation Engineering
d) Water Supply and Sanitation
e) Highway Engineering
f) Structural Engineering etc.
1.2 Discuss the process of communicating construction information, from the designer
in office to the person engaged in construction in site.,
1.3 Discuss the importance of providing accurate working drawings in any
construction project to communicate correct information.
CONSTRUCTION DETAILS
02. Understand the method of preparing working drawings to communicate
construction information and produce sample drawings.
2.1 Identify scales of 1:1, 1:2, 1:5, 1:10', 1:20, 1:50, 1:100, 1:200, 1:1250, and 1 :2500
2.2 Select scale's to be used for different types of drawing encountered in
construction work such as, construction detail drawings, general arrangement
drawings, site layout, location plan etc.
2.3 Prepare drawings depicting basic construction details clearly' and accurately for
important parts covered under the unit on "Building Construction", comprising of
following.
a) Foundation - 02 Nos.
b) Brick wall Construction - 03 Nos.
c) Doors and Windows - 02 Nos.
d) Timber joints in Construction - 01 Nos.
e) Roof work - 03 Nos.
f) Temporary Works. - 01 Nos.
3. g) Timber trenches & pits and pilings. - 01 Nos.
PLAN DRWING
3. Prepare two construction drawings, given all necessary details for building
construction and Civil Engineering Construction.
3.1 Prepare location drawings, general arrangement drawings and detail drawings to
conventional scales for simple domestic buildings giving proper concern to
spacing.
3.2 7 Draw ground floor plan, front and side elevations and sectional elevations for
domestic buildings.
3.3 Draw section through external walls of a domestic building, showing important
construction details.
3.4 Prepare working drawings to suitable scales with the diagrams spaced properly,
for different types of single storey buildings.
