Aim of the Unit :
(a) Identify the intake, aeration, sedimentation filtration processes of water
supply.
(b) Compare and explain the characteristics of raw waters from all sews and
explain the physical and bacteriological test used in water supply scheme.
(c) Understand the demand and storage capacity and various pumps.
(d) Understand the sewerage treatment systems and design of small septic
tanks.
6. Specia1 Notes :
(a) To enhance the various processes introduced in classroom, site visits
should be used whenever possible.
(b) The suggested assessment methods consists of 2 assignment: and end
test of 3 hour duration.

(c) For final assessment 40% of the makes of previous 2 assignment should
be counted together with 60% of the mar of en test.
(d) Suggested time allocation for the sections.

1. Understand the intakes of Water Supply scheme.
1.1 Explain the types of intakes.
1.2 State the advantages of types of intakes.
1.3 Explain the selection criteria of such intake system.
2. Understand the aeration process of water supply scheme.
2.1 Explain the types of aeration.
2.2 Explain the importance of aeration.
3. Understand the sedimentation process of water Supply scheme.
3.1 Sketch explains types of sedimentation tanks and their differences.
3.2 Compare the advantages of them.
3.3 Explain the chemical process in flocculation, coagulation and their importance.
4. Understand the filtration of water supply scheme.
4.1 Explain the types of filters and differences among then.
4.2 Explain the function of filter( filter media, and arrangements)
4.3 Explain the importance of filtration.
5. Understand the chemicals and chemical dosing of water supply scheme.
5.1 Explain the types of chlorination.
5.2 Explain alum, lime treatment.
5.3 Explain pH levels and its advantages.
6. Understand the capacities of storage according to the demand.
6.1 Explain the various categories of water consumptions su as domestic, school and
Commercial.
6.2 Sketch and explain the types of storage tanks and their advantages.
6.3 Explain the factor Peak, Value.
6.4 Sketch the time demand curve and explain the storage capacity.
7. Understand .the various types of pumps and their differences.
7.1 Explain the main types of pumps used the water supply.
7.2 Describe the advantages of these types.
7.3 Describe the methods of improving delivery and suction heads.

8. Understand the recommended sewerage level before release to t environment.
8.1 Describe B O D & C O D levels and methods of measurement.
9. Understand the recommended sewerage treatment methods, construction and
outlets
9.1 Explain the biological and chemical activities on each component.
9.2 Sketch an explain the methods and systems of construction of sewerage.
9.3 Explain the method sewerage outlet.
9.4 Design a small septic tank.
