Argumentative Essay On Jury Trial
The presumption of innocence s is the bedrock of our foundation; its what separates us from all the
other countries in the world. So as of now you have heard no evidence, could you vote? My boss, the
defense attorney, started asking the 40 potential jurors and one after another, I haven t heard anything,
guilty.
His frustration grew as he asked each individually. Finally an elder woman replied, Well if you say she
s presumed innocent then I guess not guilty. After further questioning and narrowing the panel to the
12 jurors it clicked that voir der is single handedly the most important part of a jury trial. Its in that
time that you get to really start fighting for your client to allow them the best chance of not getting
swept into a potential miscarriage of justice.
The trial was long and hard fought with countless objections, meetings and research by my boss and
his associate to insure we had done everything we could to prove her innocence. Throughout the trial
having spend countless hours with our client the depth and severity of this accusation really hit home
when a single mother looking at seven years in prison potentially giving her three children to foster ...

that an overwhelming sensation of relieve filled my body. This women just got her life back, going
home to her three children and hopefully never having to see us again. In all, it was the most

Modern Sensibility In The Tempest By William Shakespeare
Many people argue that among the many literary works composed by William Shakespeare the
tempest treats issues that revolve around reconciliation, forgiveness, and faith in the future generation.
Making use of character Prospero, the Author was able to develop the major themes of the play that in
broader context overthrow the Great chain of being and adopt a modern sensibility. To be in a position
of exposing how Shakespeare addresses the mentioned theme, a consideration of a thesis statement
that attitudes and actions of the main characters in play define the implication a play has on society. To
facilitate an extrapolation of the thesis in consideration, I will first explain what is meant by the
modern sensibility. In connection with artistic or social activities, modern sensibility refers to an
understanding or the ability to decide what is useful and valuable. In a social setting application,
modern sensibility is a way of understanding things to the social ideals of an earlier age. Making use
of character Prospero, the author shows how the ideologies of an individual assume a different
direction after suffering some of the transformation in the society. As the play kicks off, Prospero s
conduct displays a contradiction from the basic tenets of Christian forgiveness. Depending on his good
fortune, the character seizes the opportunity to take vengeance of his enemy. The passage that presents
the central focus of the book is one that Prospero hopes that his plan to

The Fifth Amendment From The 5th Amendment
5th Amendment The 5th Amendment in the Bill of Rights guarantees protection from self
incrimination. If there were no Fifth Amendment, there would be self incriminating clause issues, such
as: every time you are charged with a crime, you would be interrogated with no right remain silent;
whenever law enforcement desires to subpoena your personal records, you would have no right to
assert a claim against self incrimination; a refusal to testify on the grounds of self incrimination could
be punished as a crime; confessions obtained through custodial interrogation would, in many
circumstances, become admissible [there would be little, if any, deterrent to harsh interrogation
techniques]; prosecutors could ask juries to draw an inference of guilt from a defendant s failure to
testify. A case that comes from the 5th amendment is Miranda vs. Arizona , which took place in 1966
[the case from which the Miranda Rights were composed]. This case involved an $8.00 theft and a
twenty year prison sentence. Ernesto Miranda was arrested for theft and interrogated by police for two
hours when he confessed that he had kidnapped and raped a woman a few days earlier. Miranda was
not aware that he was allowed to have an attorney present during questioning nor that he had the right
to remain silent. He was convicted based off of his confession; therefore, he was sentenced to twenty
years in prison. Because he was not aware of this right, his lawyers appealed through the courts. The

Cultural Diversity In The Film And Television Industry
In addition to considering myself a champion of the supporting cast of the films and shows I regularly
watch, I also do appreciate and value diversity within the film and television industry. While I may not
voice my concerns publicly about the traditional lack of diversity within the industry, I regard this
issue as one amongst a whole host of others that are vital to the ongoing success of this business. For
whatever reason, I tend to have a heart for Asians within the industry who have exceptional talent and
deserve to be recognized. In the case of Nelson Wong, I have noticed his work for several years now,
so reaching out and asking him a few questions about his career is an action that matches perfectly not
only with my own beliefs and value system, but certainly with the Hallmark network as well.
Although the Christmas movies are past, I am honored to be able to share the career and thoughts of
this astounding actor and benevolent human being.

Taking a Look at Manipulative Advertising
The meaning of advertising is the act or practice of calling public attention to one s product, service,
need, etc (cited in Collins English Dictionary). It has various forms such as televisions, newspapers,
magazines, radios, mobiles, books, mailboxes, and through the networks. Advertising has become a
part of our daily lives, and it affects our way of life because advertisements are everywhere: in the
streets, supermarkets, shops and malls. In fact, advertising is one of the most influential marketing
methods on consumers in the commercial field. It is also an important source of information before
buying any product. However, advertising has become a way for traders to manipulate the consumers,
and that has a lot of risks on the individual and the community. Advertising industry should grow for
the need of informing the consumers about the products not to deceive then by marketing tricks.
Nowadays, advertising targets consumers to manipulate them more than informing them with the
needed facts about what they buy because it is achieved by marketing fallacies and tricks and it causes
many troubles in the community.
It has been argued that the reason for using manipulation rather than the information in the advertising
world is to achieve the financial purposes in trade. The interests and commercial ambitions are good
ways to use manipulation in the exploitation of consumers by traders. One of these goals is profit.
Corporate business profitability always seeks the best

Facing The Giant Character Essay
My favorite character from Facing the Giants is David. He enrolled in a new school, having just
moved to the town with his father. He played soccer, but since the school did not have a soccer team,
he tried out for the football team as a second string kicker. He is conscious of his small size and
football skills, and is not confident that he will even kick the ball straight. This affects him greatly
when, at the state championship, David had to kick a fifty one yard field goal in two seconds to win
the game after the main kicker is injured. The farthest he had kicked was thirty nine yard field goal,
and he argued with Coach Taylor about his idea. The coach encourages him, telling him to do his best.
Larry, who had MS, stands up for his son, holding up his arms in the shape of a goalpost. Everyone at
the game doubted that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the movie, David didn t think he could do the possible and kept doubting himself
about everything he did. His father was the only person that encouraged him to try out for the football
team, and he also told him that even though he is small, it doesn t make him weak. When David got
the kicker position, he still didn t think he was good enough to play with the rest of the boys. He
thought that he wasn t going to make it before he even kicked the ball. When his father noticed this
behavior, he raised both of his hands up straight until David saw him. This small act of belief in David
made him do his best in football. David received a lot of support from his coaches, and especially his
dad. By the end of the movie, David scored a point for the team that made them win the state
championship against the Giants, a team that was twice their size and never lost a game. This is a great
story of personal growth and this is what made him my favorite character from the movie. What
intrigues me the most is what happened after he made that winning

Review of a Correlational Study
Review of a correlational study
The use of correlational studies is dominant across multiple disciplines. The social sciences as well as
the natural sciences make generous use of correlational studies. Correlation is not causation (Babbie
2007). Consequently, correlational studies examine changes in two variables an independent and a
dependent variable. The intent of the correlational study is to measure the degree of linear association
between the two variables under investigation. The association between the two variables is measured
using the correlation coefficient, r. The Pearson s Product Moment correlation is the most robust
measure of correlation and is generally used with interval level data (Gravetter and Wallnau 2008).
The study examined for this review is a correlational study because it measured the linear relationship
between serum zinc levels and telomerase activity in bladder cancer patients. The researchers employ
the Pearson s Product Moment (PPM) correlation as the correlational measure for the research. This
use of PPM is consistent with the data collected and supports the underlying assumption of the test.
The researchers demonstrate a linear relationship between serum zinc levels and telomerase activity
using a scatter plot. The scatter plot is a legitimate graphical mechanism to identify linear relationships
(Nor큼sis 2008). Additionally, the study was explanatory rather than predictive. Explanatory studies
tend to be correlational in terms of the

The Terrorist Attacks Spread Fear And Fed Conspiracy...
On September 11th 2001, the terrorist attacks spread fear and fed conspiracy theorists. On board
United Airlines flight 93, everyone died, for a total of 44 losses ( United Airlines Flight 93 ). UA93
crashed in a field near Shanksville, in Pennsylvania. Interpretations of the crash differ, as some believe
the government covered up its involvement in the attacks and others support that the passengers were
celebrated as heroes, as they threatened their attackers (McConnachie and Tudge 401). The discussion
of two contrasting opinions follows. David Ray Griffin believes UA93 was shot down by the U.S. Air
Force, whereas James B. Meigs defends that the heroic resistance of the passengers caused the
hijackers to pull the aircraft down. They both demonstrate that the nature and the position of the plane
debris at the crash area, as well as the authorities reactions to the hijacking, confirm their own point of
view. Mr. Meigs explanations express more credibility than Mr. Griffin, due to the compared use of
reliable experts to support their claim between the two men and the sufficient evidences to prove their
viewpoint.
First and foremost, David Ray Griffin, a retired professor of philosophy of religion and theology
strongly believes that two military jets chased UA93 and shot it down, fired under the President Bush
order. His first reason provided is that the U.S. authorities being certainly aware of the United Airlines
hijacking, President Bush supposedly ordered the U.S. Air

Task 1 Health Indicators Of Wellbeing
Task 1:
Question 1 Health indicators of wellbeing
My question is:
If life expectancy is high in a given country will the income or GDP per person also be high
The two indicators that I have chosen are:
Life expectancy: The average number of years a newborn child would live if current mortality patterns
were to stay the same. Life expectancy is an indicator of wellbeing because the higher the GDP the
longer you will live because you can afford medicine and healthcare to take care of yourself and the
healthier your body is then the longer live. Docs.google.com, (2015).
GDP: Gross Domestic Product per capita by Purchasing Power Parities (in international dollars, fixed
2011 prices). The inflation and differences in the cost of living between ... Show more content on

Some reasons why there are differences between countries include the countries amount of wealth.
One country is more developed than the other, meaning that they would earn more money. In African
countries, they are having a more structured effort in their education. People will still go to school
even though they are already an adult; this is because they feel that an education is important.
Therefore, the answer to my question is no, a country does not need to have a high GDP to maintain a
high literacy rate.
Task 2: The Happy Planet Index (HPI)
The Happy Planet Index is the leading global measure of sustainable wellbeing. It records the
important information and indicators such as experienced well being, life expectancy and Ecological
footprints. It is different to other measures of wellbeing because it shows a very important aspect of
life, happiness. Other forms of measures just measure the wellbeing of people such as GDP rates and
life expectancy of countries. But the HPI measures the happiness of a country, this is good because it
could be compared with other indicators such as poverty and income. It shows that countries with a lot
of money will not always be

Neural Computational And Neural Computation
Attempting to understand the mind and its processes can be a challenging concept to try and grasp.
Over the years there have been many different interpretations of how we understand the world around
us through information and processing in the mind and brain. Argumentatively, there are a few
approaches to neural computational and neural information processing to the mind and brain, such as
through biophysical and algorithmic neural computation. While, the transition from biophysical neural
computational processing to algorithmic neural computational processing have different processes
they are both an important aspect in understanding the process from information gathered from the
world to neural computation in the mind and brain.
The biophysical aspect of neural computation is a complicated piece that is still being researched and
uncovered today. However, at a rudimentary level information processing is where biophysical neural
computation begins. Information processing is a type of processing that occurs within the brain so that
natural information, or causal correlation, can be processed into neural summation, which eventually
leads to neural computation. When we perceive something in the world we make biophysical
connections within our brain so that we can comprehend what we see or hear in the world. During this
biophysical neural computation, information processing goes through the process of neural
summation, which is a method of signal transduction. During this

instruments we do today. The issue of tuning and unpleasant sounds has been fixed because now
instruments have tuning valves and other devices to help ease the pain of the horrendous sound made
by out of tune instruments. Next, Medieval instruments were made by hand, and most of the time were
prized possessions that they would never give up, but instruments today are machine made, and are
sold and distributed for a lot of money. Lastly, the difference between Medieval instruments and
modern day instruments, is today we have the saxophone, the best instrument ever

Michelangelo Visual Description
I stood there standing on the fresh, cut wooden boards thinking of what the picture would look like on
the canvas. With a seemingly magnificent idea, I picked the gold handled paint brush off of the stool,
grabbed the pallet, and dipped the smooth bristles of the paintbrush into the thick orange pigment on
the palate and made my first stroke of paint on the once blank canvas. Upon creating that first stroke, I
smelt the unique, fresh paint on the canvas waiting to become a physical picture. This is going to be a
good one, I thought in my head. In my mind, I could see two philosophers in the center of the painting
in the courtyard of an ancient Greek school with geniuses of all ages surrounding them. I wondered

Art Therapy Intervention Essay
Art therapy as an intervention
For the purpose of developing a therapeutic intervention we will suppose that a preadolescent child
with similar adverse experiences in reffered for art therapy in a school setting due to heightened social
anxiety and poor peer relations.
Art therapy is appropriate for children who are socially anxious as they often have trouble
communicating their emotions verbally. the presence of art between the therapist and client allows for
non verbal communication.
Emotions associated with neglect are not easily comprehended by a child. the sensory qualities of
materials allows for symblic expression and as way to connect with the body bringing out implicit
memories that the mind may have forgotten (Assouline, 2009). as socially axious children may take
longer in building a relationship with the therapist long term therapy would be most beneficial. The

Identifying The Patterns Of Social Acceptance
In the context of parties of people, I was particularly interested in finding the patterns of social
acceptance, and the ways that people incorporate themselves into groups. An example of such
acceptance can be the pattern of individuals who completely ignore groups around them by staring at
their phone; compared to those who strike conversations with people they haven t met before.
Addressed, also, are ways that people use more passive technique to identify themselves and how this
resembles their social circle. Note taking was taken in two spots with the overall time of note taking to
roughly 1 hour. The first area was the quad. This area was where the majority of notes were written. I
selected this area in particular because of the traffic during lunch hours. In order to get a good viewing
angle of the quad, I sat under in the southwest corner of the quad and began taking notes. The other
part of my notes were written in a more progressive manner. I specifically took notes of group patterns
during lecture, and regularly would ask questions focused on such. Finding a correlation between the
different questions asked, and a behavioral response is how I drew my conclusions. I am always
fascinated between how people socialize. This topic is close to my heart because I was an extreme
introvert before my final years of high school. Not being able to just start a simple conversation
because of social anxiety is one of the worst feelings anybody can have, and it takes a lot

Do You Agree with the View That Mary Seacole , and Not...
Do you agree with the view that Mary Seacole , and not Florence Nightingale , was the real angle of
mercy during the Crimean War?
During the Crimean war, both Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale showed aspects of being
angels. The word angel suggests a heavenly person who is attentive to the soldiers needs, and mercy
means showing kindness and forgiveness, and the angel of mercy basically suggests a compassionated
and kind hearted person who empathizes and helps soldiers in need. Although Nightingale had showed
the aspects of being an angel of mercy , the amount of work and commitment Seacole had put in
outweighs Nightingale s; therefore I believe Mary Seacole deserves the title of the real angel of mercy

Sutherland and Dr. Grainger, and still Nightingale took all the credit. Even though, Nightingale has
made positive impacts on the course of the war and paved a way for improving in the nursing field,
her actions aren t enough to fit the image of an angel of mercy , since she was a harsh, cold woman
who criticized her own nurses and only checked the patients from a distance, completely neglecting
the importance of consoling and communicating with the soldiers, as it is also shown on the source U
on the lithograph Nightingale is seen leading the wounded; however, she keeps a distance inbetween.
This shows that Nightingale is recognized through the image of the clean organized ward, rather than
a kind hearted and compassionated nurse treating the patients, and the angel of mercy ought to provide
both physical and mental needs to the soldier as the title says, since they will not only suffer physical
attacks but will also be mentally affected by the war, and Nightingale failed to provide mental
treatment.

Self Immolation Essay
On the 11th of June, 1963, a monk named Thích Quảng Đức burned himself alive on a busy
Vietnamese intersection. An action that, in five months time, led to the assassination of the Buddhist
opposing president of the Republic of Vietnam. Self immolation, a form of protest in which one
sacrifices themselves, usually with fire, has returned, and has brought with it a multitude of issues.
First, a bit of history, although the death of Thích Quảng Đức was the first documented case of self
immolation as a form of protest, the concept of burning oneself alive has existed for much longer. The
Ritual of Sati refers to an old and now illegal practice in which a widowed Hindu woman would throw
herself upon the funeral pyre of her husband. The grotesque tradition originated from the myth of Sati,
a Hindu goddess who set herself on fire in retaliation to her husband s humiliation at the hands of her
own father. The first documented case of the ritual can be traced to Madhya Pradesh, where a
commemorative monument was erected in 510 CCE. While self immolation, in this context,
developed into a sexist method of sacrifice, the religious origin expressed it as an act of rebellion.
Buddhism also has strong connections with self immolation, there are many legends of monks who
sacrificed their own bodies for others. In the tale of The Hungry Tigress , a previous incarnation of
Buddha comes across a starving lion who is going to eat her cubs. The tale describes how Buddha
sacrifices his own

They were utterly horrified at what they discovered. Most of the ship s crew were dead, the rest
mostly dying. In terror, the Sicilian authorities ordered the fleet out of its harbor in hopes of sparing
themselves from the same fate. It was a false hope. The Plague spread with a horrifying rapidity. It
raged across the European continent killing unprecedented numbers. In fact, it is generally agreed that

the dead for death to come, have committed to writing what I have truly heard and examined; and so

Penrith City Council Case Study
Penrith gathers 20,000 signatures against poor infrastructure
An online petition calling for federal funding on infrastructure development in Penrith and the outer
western Sydney region has gathered more than 20,000 signatures. Penrith City Council has started this
initiative with an aim to get problems of traffic congestion and other related problems out in the open
as federal election campaigning gets underway.
The campaign highlights the critical need to connect Sydney s outskirts to the North West and South
West regions. The project s objective is to generate more job opportunities and health access to
improve well being and togetherness in the community.
It s a question of accessibility, to be able to get around. To have a meaningful, ... Show more content

I ll be an optimist, I believe there is going to be a federal fairly soon, and there will some further
commitments in relation to the planning of it, then budget allocations for it will be put through
regressively overtime. Though Good government, whether its liberal or labour will have to come on
board, a bipartisan agreement, the creation of the fund really has to be a solution, to progressively
build them up and spend them for the benefit of the community.
What have you done to make the public aware? How can this be enhanced to infiltrate public interest?
There s advertising everywhere, Facebook pages, YouTube advertisements, pamphlets, just last
Wednesday morning people were handing out pamphlets at railways stations, the launch of the project
in Penrith seems to have created a good deal of publicity.
How long will these improvements take once approved? Will this be chaotic on top of existing rail
lines in the process of construction?
Any construction such as this will cause disruption. It is critical to implement it in an appropriate and
timely manner. Changes are to be seen through to

Chief Executive Ron Johnson s Jcpenney
Chief Executive Ron Johnson strongly focused JC Penney around the differentiation strategy. He
discontinued many different brands that have been carried for years in order to deliver more of the
JCPenney brands. The new JCPenney brand prices were higher and there were little to no sales on
these clothes. With coupons being distinct, customers wanted better prices on their clothing. The usual
customers were used to markdowns and clearance sales which became few to none. The customers
were also used to the catalog so they could do a lot of ordering from home. The catalog was seen as
useless and a high dollar promotion so this promotion was also taken away.Mr. Johnson wanted to see

Present Day Pop Culture
Outline However for some games today is simply one more piece of their day by day lives, it is
anything but difficult to overlook that only 120 years back, a number of the games we underestimate
did not yet exist, and those that did would be scarcely unmistakable to the present day sports group of
onlookers. The historical backdrop of present day sports points of interest an advancement, from
diversions played essentially for excitement and recreation to an industry equaling some other in size
and power.
Mainstream culture Impact With that advancement came an expansion in impact. Wears throughout
the most recent hundred years has influenced present day pop culture and has frequently reflected
changing social states of mind and guidelines. Sports has likewise observed advances in methods and
accomplishments in records and levels that mirror the dedication by sportsman, sportswomen and
preparing to be the best. Designs now regularly reflect sports attire, somewhat due to the cash infused
into games by mold houses and mostly on account of our yearning to imitate our saints and
champions.
Legislative issues Alongside an expansion in impact over pop culture has come an expansion in
political impact. This can incorporate competitors utilizing their distinction to keep running for office,

Trivial Matters Make A Good Satire
Trivial matters make a good satire. A satire, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, is a poem
ridiculing prevalent vices or follies by means of elevated language and other poetic devices. Alexander
Pope s The Rape of the Lock poem is a mock epic, a subgenre of the satire. Pope s poem follows a
pattern that resembles epic poetry It is relatively long, divided in cantos, developed in heroic couplets
in Iambic Pentameter. Also, the action of the story takes place in a single day, in a single location:
London; thus, there is a unity of time, place and action. By means of these devices, the speaker creates
a mock epic where otherworld characters Sylphs, spirits, and so forth interact with Belinda, an earthly
character with the intention of protecting her from any harm (Canto 2, 122); Belinda is an aristocratic
young lady who, according to fate (Canto 3, 151) a central point in epic poetry, loses one of her locks
at the hands of the baron in the social gathering that is taking place later on that day at the Hampton
Court Palace. Belinda, being part of the aristocratic circles, is determined to be the center of attention
in that social gathering, for she wants to be highly regarded (Canto 3, line 25); however the opposite
happens when the Baron cuts one of her locks that Belinda feels dishonored (Canto 4, 152), according
to her viewpoint. It is the excessive importance that Belinda gives to her flock what, by a change of
focus, the speaker uses to play with the

What Is The Similarities Between The Lamb And The Tyger
The Lamb and The Tyger William Blake, a prominent poet in the late 1800s, wrote some of the most
meaningful pieces that are still looked at today by many. Poems are unique because they must arrive
to the point while also compacting all of the necessary literary devices needed for a concise message.
William Blake does just this especially in his contrasting poems The Lamb and The Tyger. The poems
The Tyger and The Lamb along with their literary devices coexist in order to create romanticism and
to convey William Blake s important contrasting messages of innocence and power. In the poem The
Lamb, the principal theme is innocence. The picture in the poem displays a young naked boy speaking
to a lamb. Both the lamb and the child represent innocence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is documented that Blake had raw talent in coloring and writing. Not only did he show such rare
potential at a young age, he also claimed to have several supernatural visions. Almost every poem he
has written involves a higher being perhaps because of his miraculous visions that he has experienced.
His most famous poems contrast each other in that they talk about completely different things. Blake s
songs of innocence go in depth in describing our existence and how nature is more related to ourselves
than we think. William Blake s other poems deal with a different perspective that involves the loss of
innocence and power. Blake wrote these contrasting poems in order to teach readers and scholars the
important relationships they have with each other. The Tyger for instance is a poem that deals with
power and corruption. The Lamb is a poem that makes us readers ponders the most basic unanswered
human questions. Naturally many view a lamb as weak, and I think that the author did this in order for
him to tell his message.
The Tyger by many is viewed as a poem that deals with God s other characteristics. God is viewed as
merciful in the Lamb, however, in the Tyger, God is viewed more along the lines of the immense
power he possesses. The Tyger naturally is a creature of power because of the strength it

Andrew Jackson Indian Removal Act
Take time to deliberate; but when the time for action arrives, stop thinking and go in.
Andrew Jackson
President Andrew Jackson said this. As most people know he wasn t all that he was suppose to be,
unless didn t like Indians either. This brings me to my point about his idea to move the
Indians from their homelands. His idea is known as the Indian Removal Act. This ended up paving the
way for the Trail of Tears.
The Indian Removal Act played a major part in the Trail of Tears. This act was passed on
May 28 in the year 1830, and signed into law by President Andrew Jackson. He felt as if the land the
Indians lived on were needed by the whites for growing in population. He came up with this act
because he knew exactly how to persuade

Bed Bath And Beyond Essay
During the time of the case Bed Bath Beyond (BBBY) was on top of the competition with never
missing earnings estimates and constant store expansions. Both their top line and bottom line growth
was impressive, especially when compared to competitors. Their expansions were being financed with
a large percentage of cash and a small percentage of debt. The debt they did incur was payed off rather
quickly leading to high cash accounts in their books. However, this created a problem for BBBY, as
many analysts and investors considered the pile of cash to be rather unproductive. Analyst stated that
the growing cash position was deteriorating the firms return on equity and the firm could improve
shareholder return by adding debt to the firm. So, a question arose as to how BBBY should use that
cash and whether they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The company was successful as they differentiated themselves away from the competition. BBBY had
been one of the early pioneers of the big box retail concept. BBBY stores averages a 33,000 square
foot area, sometimes up to 80,000 square feet, while average department stores were only at 20,000
square feet. The added capacity provided the company with more stocking units, which enabled the
company to offer a wide arrangement of products. BBBY was also admired by analyst for their ability
to increase shareholder value since its IPO. There were some key factors in their success. First, a good
customer experience leading to high store productivity was achieved by top notch customer service
that allowed BBBY to be more productive in sales by per square foot. Second, a decentralized store
control structure allowed store managers to choose their own merchandise mix and presentation.
Third, high margins were achieved by understanding the local climate, identifying good areas for mark
ups, and driving volumes on those items. Finally, an obsessive low cost structure that the company

Flashbulb Memory Paper
The research article Tv or not Tv? Does the immediacy of viewing images of a momentous news
event affect the quality and stability of flashbulb memories? was authored by Evelyn G. Schaefer,
Micheal K. Halldorson, and Cheryl Dizon Reynante at the University of Winnipeg in Canada. These
researchers sought to investigate if the time in which an individual these images of traumatic events
would affect the formation of flashbulb memories (Schaefer, 2011). A flashbulb memories as defined
by Brown Kulik are, an extremely vivid and detailed recollection of one s contextual personal
circumstances on first learning of an extraordinary, shocking event either public or personal (Schaefer,
2011) . These vivid types of memories rely on canonical categories when being recalled, such as the
activity preformed when the event took place, who told them about the event, and where they were
when it happened (Schaefer, 2011). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The results of the studies vary tremendously some finding that visual images increase the preservation
of the story in memory or completely misrepresenting it (Schaefer, 2011). The improvement in
flashbulb memories in these studies has been credited to the vivid way in which these event was
covered. Yet, on the other hand researchers also credit the dispassionate way the news anchors are
trained to disassociate with the topics they are reporting on as negatively affecting flashbulb memories
(Schaefer, 2011). The majority of these findings in previous research find that media such as the news
has an undesirable effect on the construction of flash bulb memories. What was not available in these
studies were how many of the people who participated in these studies were informed by media or

Huck Finn Reflection
Activity #1 This book was about a boy named Huck (Huckleberry Finn) who saw his life s challenges
as great adventures. The author gave the main character an incredibly magnetic personality that surely
tapped into each readers childhood. He also made the protagonist very relatable. Although I was not
born around the time African American slavery was allowed I thought that the dialogue was very
authentic. Initially, I was offended on how the African American slave characters were portrayed.
However, I was satisfied when I realized that the author didn t play favorites when it came to dialogue.
In this book, the way a person thought had no connection with their race. It was clear to see that the
author was not biased. He gave each character a chance to develop his own opinions. One of my
favorite parts of the book was when Huck was trying to figure out what was right: giving a slave back
to its rightful owner or setting them free. Huck made a decision that most adults might not ever come
to make because they are bound by something called a generational curse . A generational curse is
something that a person s parents, grandparents, or great grandparents did that makes its way down in
the family tree. This curse (or blessing) can be a mindset ritual tradition or just a way of life. It could
be good, bad, or neither. For example, Huck was taught not only by his family but in his race that

Broca s Aphasi A Case Study
Broca s and Wernicke s aphasia are two types of aphasia that can affect an individual s naming,
fluency, comprehension and repetition abilities. Aphasia is a disorder that occurs when there is
damage to areas of the brain, which causes an individual to have difficulty in areas such as producing
and comprehending speech. Broca s Aphasia Signs and Symptoms Major signs and symptoms of
Broca s aphasia include non fluent speech and poor repetition abilities (Murdoch, 2010). Brain Based
Communication Disorders (2010) recognizes additional signs and symptoms including consonant and
vowel distortions, slow and hesitant speech rate, and an increase in errors as utterance length and
complexity increase for the individual with Broca s aphasia. Anomia, a symptom featured in this type
of aphasia, inhibits an individual to recollect words; not limited to nouns (Harryman, Kresheck,
Nicolosi, 1996). Speech/ Voice/Swallowing Deficits The speech and voice deficits that accompany

Their speech includes phrases of normal length and melody; however, the content is abnormal
(Murdoch, 2010). Murdoch (2010) found that individuals with Wernicke s aphasia elicit poor naming

Accompanying symptoms of Wernicke s aphasia include paraphasias such as phonetic (literal), verbal,
and neologistic (Harryman et al., 1996). Verbal parpahasia is characterized when one word replaces
the intended word (Harryman et al., 1996). Neologstic paraphasia, also known as jargon, consists of
meaningless invented words (Harryman et al., 1996). Phonetic paraphasia is characterized by the
replacement of a sound for another or a supplementary sound (Harryman et al.,

Data Analysis in the Cloud
V. DATAANALYSIS IN THE CLOUD
In this section we descus the expected properties of a system designed for performing data analysis at
the cloud environment and how parallel database systems and MapReduce based systems achieve
these properties.
Expected properties of a system designed for performing data analysis at cloud:
Performance
Performance is the primary characteristic of database systems that can use to select best solution for
the system.High performance relate with quality, amount and depth of analysis. High performance
helps to reduce cost.Upgrading to a quicker software package will permit an organization avoid
adding further nodes to application continues to scale.
Fault Tolerance.
In transactional workloads fault tolerant means that DBMS can recover from a failure without losing
any data. In the distributed databases fault tolerances means that successfully commit transactions and
make progress even in the worker node failures. For read only queries in analytical workloads, query
doesn t have to be restarted if a case of one node s query fails. In cloud there is a high failure rate. It
can happen in single node failure during long query processing. Ability to run in a heterogeneous
environment
Due to hardware failures in the system nodes in cloud not act as homogeneous. When the work is
equally divided among all nodes, time takes to complete the task should be equal to time that needed
slowest node needed to complete its portion of work. Because its

  • 2. Argumentative Essay On Jury Trial The presumption of innocence s is the bedrock of our foundation; its what separates us from all the other countries in the world. So as of now you have heard no evidence, could you vote? My boss, the defense attorney, started asking the 40 potential jurors and one after another, I haven t heard anything, guilty. His frustration grew as he asked each individually. Finally an elder woman replied, Well if you say she s presumed innocent then I guess not guilty. After further questioning and narrowing the panel to the 12 jurors it clicked that voir der is single handedly the most important part of a jury trial. Its in that time that you get to really start fighting for your client to allow them the best chance of not getting swept into a potential miscarriage of justice. The trial was long and hard fought with countless objections, meetings and research by my boss and his associate to insure we had done everything we could to prove her innocence. Throughout the trial having spend countless hours with our client the depth and severity of this accusation really hit home when a single mother looking at seven years in prison potentially giving her three children to foster ... • 3. Modern Sensibility In The Tempest By William Shakespeare Many people argue that among the many literary works composed by William Shakespeare the tempest treats issues that revolve around reconciliation, forgiveness, and faith in the future generation. Making use of character Prospero, the Author was able to develop the major themes of the play that in broader context overthrow the Great chain of being and adopt a modern sensibility. To be in a position of exposing how Shakespeare addresses the mentioned theme, a consideration of a thesis statement that attitudes and actions of the main characters in play define the implication a play has on society. To facilitate an extrapolation of the thesis in consideration, I will first explain what is meant by the modern sensibility. In connection with artistic or social activities, modern sensibility refers to an understanding or the ability to decide what is useful and valuable. In a social setting application, modern sensibility is a way of understanding things to the social ideals of an earlier age. Making use of character Prospero, the author shows how the ideologies of an individual assume a different direction after suffering some of the transformation in the society. As the play kicks off, Prospero s conduct displays a contradiction from the basic tenets of Christian forgiveness. Depending on his good fortune, the character seizes the opportunity to take vengeance of his enemy. The passage that presents the central focus of the book is one that Prospero hopes that his plan to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Fifth Amendment From The 5th Amendment 5th Amendment The 5th Amendment in the Bill of Rights guarantees protection from self incrimination. If there were no Fifth Amendment, there would be self incriminating clause issues, such as: every time you are charged with a crime, you would be interrogated with no right remain silent; whenever law enforcement desires to subpoena your personal records, you would have no right to assert a claim against self incrimination; a refusal to testify on the grounds of self incrimination could be punished as a crime; confessions obtained through custodial interrogation would, in many circumstances, become admissible [there would be little, if any, deterrent to harsh interrogation techniques]; prosecutors could ask juries to draw an inference of guilt from a defendant s failure to testify. A case that comes from the 5th amendment is Miranda vs. Arizona , which took place in 1966 [the case from which the Miranda Rights were composed]. This case involved an $8.00 theft and a twenty year prison sentence. Ernesto Miranda was arrested for theft and interrogated by police for two hours when he confessed that he had kidnapped and raped a woman a few days earlier. Miranda was not aware that he was allowed to have an attorney present during questioning nor that he had the right to remain silent. He was convicted based off of his confession; therefore, he was sentenced to twenty years in prison. Because he was not aware of this right, his lawyers appealed through the courts. • 5. Cultural Diversity In The Film And Television Industry In addition to considering myself a champion of the supporting cast of the films and shows I regularly watch, I also do appreciate and value diversity within the film and television industry. While I may not voice my concerns publicly about the traditional lack of diversity within the industry, I regard this issue as one amongst a whole host of others that are vital to the ongoing success of this business. For whatever reason, I tend to have a heart for Asians within the industry who have exceptional talent and deserve to be recognized. In the case of Nelson Wong, I have noticed his work for several years now, so reaching out and asking him a few questions about his career is an action that matches perfectly not only with my own beliefs and value system, but certainly with the Hallmark network as well. Although the Christmas movies are past, I am honored to be able to share the career and thoughts of this astounding actor and benevolent human being. Photo by Odyssey Media Odyssey Media RH: Why did you decide to become an actor? NW: I always felt like an oddball being the youngest and only boy (I have two older sisters) in an immigrant family in New Zealand. I had a hard time relating to my family and the world around me due to cultural differences, and I got bullied at school initially for being Asian and different. The people I related to the most were on TV folks like John Ritter, Don Knotts, Gil Gerard, and Adam West. They showed me a world where people were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Taking a Look at Manipulative Advertising The meaning of advertising is the act or practice of calling public attention to one s product, service, need, etc (cited in Collins English Dictionary). It has various forms such as televisions, newspapers, magazines, radios, mobiles, books, mailboxes, and through the networks. Advertising has become a part of our daily lives, and it affects our way of life because advertisements are everywhere: in the streets, supermarkets, shops and malls. In fact, advertising is one of the most influential marketing methods on consumers in the commercial field. It is also an important source of information before buying any product. However, advertising has become a way for traders to manipulate the consumers, and that has a lot of risks on the individual and the community. Advertising industry should grow for the need of informing the consumers about the products not to deceive then by marketing tricks. Nowadays, advertising targets consumers to manipulate them more than informing them with the needed facts about what they buy because it is achieved by marketing fallacies and tricks and it causes many troubles in the community. It has been argued that the reason for using manipulation rather than the information in the advertising world is to achieve the financial purposes in trade. The interests and commercial ambitions are good ways to use manipulation in the exploitation of consumers by traders. One of these goals is profit. Corporate business profitability always seeks the best ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Facing The Giant Character Essay My favorite character from Facing the Giants is David. He enrolled in a new school, having just moved to the town with his father. He played soccer, but since the school did not have a soccer team, he tried out for the football team as a second string kicker. He is conscious of his small size and football skills, and is not confident that he will even kick the ball straight. This affects him greatly when, at the state championship, David had to kick a fifty one yard field goal in two seconds to win the game after the main kicker is injured. The farthest he had kicked was thirty nine yard field goal, and he argued with Coach Taylor about his idea. The coach encourages him, telling him to do his best. Larry, who had MS, stands up for his son, holding up his arms in the shape of a goalpost. Everyone at the game doubted that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning of the movie, David didn t think he could do the possible and kept doubting himself about everything he did. His father was the only person that encouraged him to try out for the football team, and he also told him that even though he is small, it doesn t make him weak. When David got the kicker position, he still didn t think he was good enough to play with the rest of the boys. He thought that he wasn t going to make it before he even kicked the ball. When his father noticed this behavior, he raised both of his hands up straight until David saw him. This small act of belief in David made him do his best in football. David received a lot of support from his coaches, and especially his dad. By the end of the movie, David scored a point for the team that made them win the state championship against the Giants, a team that was twice their size and never lost a game. This is a great story of personal growth and this is what made him my favorite character from the movie. What intrigues me the most is what happened after he made that winning ... • 8. Review of a Correlational Study Review of a correlational study The use of correlational studies is dominant across multiple disciplines. The social sciences as well as the natural sciences make generous use of correlational studies. Correlation is not causation (Babbie 2007). Consequently, correlational studies examine changes in two variables an independent and a dependent variable. The intent of the correlational study is to measure the degree of linear association between the two variables under investigation. The association between the two variables is measured using the correlation coefficient, r. The Pearson s Product Moment correlation is the most robust measure of correlation and is generally used with interval level data (Gravetter and Wallnau 2008). The study examined for this review is a correlational study because it measured the linear relationship between serum zinc levels and telomerase activity in bladder cancer patients. The researchers employ the Pearson s Product Moment (PPM) correlation as the correlational measure for the research. This use of PPM is consistent with the data collected and supports the underlying assumption of the test. The researchers demonstrate a linear relationship between serum zinc levels and telomerase activity using a scatter plot. The scatter plot is a legitimate graphical mechanism to identify linear relationships (Nor큼sis 2008). Additionally, the study was explanatory rather than predictive. Explanatory studies tend to be correlational in terms of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Terrorist Attacks Spread Fear And Fed Conspiracy... On September 11th 2001, the terrorist attacks spread fear and fed conspiracy theorists. On board United Airlines flight 93, everyone died, for a total of 44 losses ( United Airlines Flight 93 ). UA93 crashed in a field near Shanksville, in Pennsylvania. Interpretations of the crash differ, as some believe the government covered up its involvement in the attacks and others support that the passengers were celebrated as heroes, as they threatened their attackers (McConnachie and Tudge 401). The discussion of two contrasting opinions follows. David Ray Griffin believes UA93 was shot down by the U.S. Air Force, whereas James B. Meigs defends that the heroic resistance of the passengers caused the hijackers to pull the aircraft down. They both demonstrate that the nature and the position of the plane debris at the crash area, as well as the authorities reactions to the hijacking, confirm their own point of view. Mr. Meigs explanations express more credibility than Mr. Griffin, due to the compared use of reliable experts to support their claim between the two men and the sufficient evidences to prove their viewpoint. First and foremost, David Ray Griffin, a retired professor of philosophy of religion and theology strongly believes that two military jets chased UA93 and shot it down, fired under the President Bush order. His first reason provided is that the U.S. authorities being certainly aware of the United Airlines hijacking, President Bush supposedly ordered the U.S. Air ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Task 1 Health Indicators Of Wellbeing Task 1: Question 1 Health indicators of wellbeing My question is: If life expectancy is high in a given country will the income or GDP per person also be high The two indicators that I have chosen are: Life expectancy: The average number of years a newborn child would live if current mortality patterns were to stay the same. Life expectancy is an indicator of wellbeing because the higher the GDP the longer you will live because you can afford medicine and healthcare to take care of yourself and the healthier your body is then the longer live. Some reasons why there are differences between countries include the countries amount of wealth. One country is more developed than the other, meaning that they would earn more money. In African countries, they are having a more structured effort in their education. People will still go to school even though they are already an adult; this is because they feel that an education is important. Therefore, the answer to my question is no, a country does not need to have a high GDP to maintain a high literacy rate. Task 2: The Happy Planet Index (HPI) The Happy Planet Index is the leading global measure of sustainable wellbeing. It records the important information and indicators such as experienced well being, life expectancy and Ecological footprints. It is different to other measures of wellbeing because it shows a very important aspect of life, happiness. Other forms of measures just measure the wellbeing of people such as GDP rates and life expectancy of countries. But the HPI measures the happiness of a country, this is good because it could be compared with other indicators such as poverty and income. • 11. Neural Computational And Neural Computation Attempting to understand the mind and its processes can be a challenging concept to try and grasp. Over the years there have been many different interpretations of how we understand the world around us through information and processing in the mind and brain. Argumentatively, there are a few approaches to neural computational and neural information processing to the mind and brain, such as through biophysical and algorithmic neural computation. While, the transition from biophysical neural computational processing to algorithmic neural computational processing have different processes they are both an important aspect in understanding the process from information gathered from the world to neural computation in the mind and brain. The biophysical aspect of neural computation is a complicated piece that is still being researched and uncovered today. However, at a rudimentary level information processing is where biophysical neural computation begins. Information processing is a type of processing that occurs within the brain so that natural information, or causal correlation, can be processed into neural summation, which eventually leads to neural computation. When we perceive something in the world we make biophysical connections within our brain so that we can comprehend what we see or hear in the world. During this biophysical neural computation, information processing goes through the process of neural summation, which is a method of signal transduction. During this ... To start off, a lot of Renaissance instruments have evolved into the modern day instruments we use today. Without the weird instruments that were made decades ago, we wouldn t have had the cool instruments we do today. The issue of tuning and unpleasant sounds has been fixed because now instruments have tuning valves and other devices to help ease the pain of the horrendous sound made by out of tune instruments. Next, Medieval instruments were made by hand, and most of the time were prized possessions that they would never give up, but instruments today are machine made, and are sold and distributed for a lot of money. With a seemingly magnificent idea, I picked the gold handled paint brush off of the stool, grabbed the pallet, and dipped the smooth bristles of the paintbrush into the thick orange pigment on the palate and made my first stroke of paint on the once blank canvas. Upon creating that first stroke, I smelt the unique, fresh paint on the canvas waiting to become a physical picture. This is going to be a good one, I thought in my head. In my mind, I could see two philosophers in the center of the painting in the courtyard of an ancient Greek school with geniuses of all ages surrounding them. I wondered what Michelangelo would ... Addressed, also, are ways that people use more passive technique to identify themselves and how this resembles their social circle. During the Crimean war, both Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale showed aspects of being angels. The word angel suggests a heavenly person who is attentive to the soldiers needs, and mercy means showing kindness and forgiveness, and the angel of mercy basically suggests a compassionated and kind hearted person who empathizes and helps soldiers in need. An action that, in five months time, led to the assassination of the Buddhist opposing president of the Republic of Vietnam. Self immolation, a form of protest in which one sacrifices themselves, usually with fire, has returned, and has brought with it a multitude of issues. First, a bit of history, although the death of Thích Quảng Đức was the first documented case of self immolation as a form of protest, the concept of burning oneself alive has existed for much longer. The Ritual of Sati refers to an old and now illegal practice in which a widowed Hindu woman would throw herself upon the funeral pyre of her husband. The grotesque tradition originated from the myth of Sati, a Hindu goddess who set herself on fire in retaliation to her husband s humiliation at the hands of her own father. The first documented case of the ritual can be traced to Madhya Pradesh, where a commemorative monument was erected in 510 CCE. While self immolation, in this context, developed into a sexist method of sacrifice, the religious origin expressed it as an act of rebellion. Buddhism also has strong connections with self immolation, there are many legends of monks who sacrificed their own bodies for others. A satire, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, is a poem ridiculing prevalent vices or follies by means of elevated language and other poetic devices. Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock poem is a mock epic, a subgenre of the satire. Pope s poem follows a pattern that resembles epic poetry It is relatively long, divided in cantos, developed in heroic couplets in Iambic Pentameter. Also, the action of the story takes place in a single day, in a single location: London; thus, there is a unity of time, place and action. By means of these devices, the speaker creates a mock epic where otherworld characters Sylphs, spirits, and so forth interact with Belinda, an earthly character with the intention of protecting her from any harm (Canto 2, 122); Belinda is an aristocratic young lady who, according to fate (Canto 3, 151) a central point in epic poetry, loses one of her locks at the hands of the baron in the social gathering that is taking place later on that day at the Hampton Court Palace. Belinda, being part of the aristocratic circles, is determined to be the center of attention in that social gathering, for she wants to be highly regarded (Canto 3, line 25); however the opposite happens when the Baron cuts one of her locks that Belinda feels dishonored (Canto 4, 152), according to her viewpoint.
