What’s the point?
•Avoid duplicate or redundant data storage
•Store each piece of information once!
•Relationships between tables in [relational] databases allow tables to ‘share’ information they have in common

•Identifiers become primary keys – a mandatory, unique value for each record (instance) in the table (of an entity)
•Primary keys can also be system-generated
•Entities become tables
•Attributes become fields

•But you only have to store the data once!
