Univariance Lab Report
The principle of univariance
The principle of univariance states that an unlimited set of diverse wavelength intensity mixtures can
produce the same response from a single kind of photoreceptor. Having the photoreceptor to respond
with the same rate creates a problem, as the human eye favors to perceive wavelength and amplitude.
These are two aspects of light that allow us to perceive color and brightness. Furthermore, a single sort
of cone is able to provide a neural firing rate, which varies in one dimension or is univariate.
However, for an accurate and complete vision, humans need to code for two dimensions. For instance,
having one type of cone would prevent a person from perceiving color vision. In this experiment, the
firing rate a cone has to different lights is explored. In order to make the cone to fire to a high extent,
the wavelength has to be in 550, and with 90% amplitude. However, this firing rate changes when the
color is changed to a darker color, like with dark blue. In this case the amplitude is in 50% and the
wavelength in 450. This shows this cone is univariant, but can fire with less intensity with darker
colors.

This activity allows the participant to observe the responses for the L, M, and S cones. This activity
shows that the cones have different response rates to different lights. For instance, the S cones, which
are short wavelength cones, have a high firing rate with 90% amplitude of blue light. However, the L
cones, which are long wavelength cones, have a strong firing rate with 90% amplitude of red light.
This is consistent with the length of the light wavelengths. For instance, the M cones, which has
medium wavelength respectively responds to medium wavelength light, which is green

Q: X.805 security architecture, how it compares with the X.800 network security access architecture
A: X.805 architecture was developed by the Telecommunications standardization sector of the
International Telecommunications Union X.805 (ITU T X.805) on October 2003 to provide end to end
transmission of data from one network to another.
The Security architecture logically separates complicated arrangement of end to end system s security
related features into discrete architectural components. This discretion allows a certain systematic way
to deal with end to end security that can be utilized for planning of new security solutions and for
accessing the security of the current networks. The security architecture gives a complete, top down,
end to end point of view of system security and can be connected to network components,
administrations, and applications keeping in mind the end goal to distinguish, anticipate, and correct
security vulnerabilities.
There are various threats that should be taken into consideration since these threats are likely to
destruct, corrupt remove disclose or interrupt any information or services that helps in the efficiency
of an application.
The main issues that X.805 addresses are shown below:
1. What are the threats that can occur and what kind of protection can be provided?
2. What are the distinct types of network equipment and facility groupings that need to be

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof Misogynist
The Misogynistic Tendencies of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams
In the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof there are three main women in the play they include Margaret
(usually called Maggie), Mae and Big Mama. These three women play an intricate roll in the play but
also have to deal with very misogynistic attitudes toward them. The relationships between almost all
of the characters in the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof has very misogynistic under tones and overall lack
of respect for women. In this essay I will firstly express what the common role of the women was in
the 1950 s. Secondly, I will discuss the misogynistic attitudes towards the women. And Finally I will
discuss the misogynistic attitudes between the women themselves in this play. During the 1950 s,
women had very different roles than they do today. In the 1950 s one of the main role of the women
was bearing children. In the case of Maggie she was constantly pestered by Big Mama and Big Daddy
about not having any children, Big Mama says to Maggie Something s not right! You re childless and
my son drinks (272). This statement by Big Mama express that she believe that if they were not
having children that there was something very wrong with there ... Show more content on

Not only did the grown women roles objectify each other but even Mae and Grooper s young daughter
Dixie, makes comments that Maggie was jealous because her and Brick can t have babies (280).
Another issue that occurred between the Mae and Maggie was the constant strive for Big Daddy s
attention in order to receive the higher inheritance. Maggie uses her sexual edge to appeal to Big
Daddy while Mae emphasizes Maggie s downfalls. During the act where Maggie gives Big Daddy the
cashmere robe, Mae deliberately expains to the whole family that Maggie brought that for Big Daddy

The Shawshank Redemption Is An American Drama Film...
The Shawshank redemption is an American drama film written and directed by Frank Darabont in the
year 1994, starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. The film s screenplay has been adapted from
the Stephen King Novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank redemption and talks about the life of a man
named Andy Dufresne, a banker who is sentenced to life imprisonment in the Shawshank State prison
for murder of his wife and her lover, even despite his claims of innocence.
While the main genre of the film is drama, it fits into the sub genres of a crime and drama thriller due
to its complex narrative. The narrative is based on prison life and how Andy Dufrense who is the
protagonist, copes with this life imprisonment. Shawshank redemption places its emphasis on the
action taking place rather than the psychological meaning, which only adds to the reasoning of why
thriller is the main sub genre. The movie stars Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman as two convicts
serving time in a New England prison named Shawshank. The setting of the film is mainly of the
Shawshank prison, which is an external location and is focused on the day to day activities of the
prisoners. Tim Robbins plays the role of a man named Andy Dufresne who is the main protagonist,
while Morgan Freeman plays the role of Ellis Boyd Redding or simply Red. Supporting characters are
played by James Whitmore who is Brooks Hatlen, the librarian and one of the oldest convicts in the
prison, Bob Gunton as Warden Samuel Norton who is

Is Shakespeare s Monologues And Soliloquie In Romeo And...
Shakespeare is renowned for his powerful monologues and soliloquies; from Romeo and Juliet s
lamenting beginning, as well as Hamlet s dreary end. Richard III is no different, the opening speech in
the beginning tells the audience Richard s immediate intentions; an action deliberately made by
Shakespeare. By introducing the play this way it gives the reader a sneak inside the man s wicked
soul, giving no doubt to the evil that is about to happen. Much like in Romeo and Juliet, the plot or
plan, rather is explained and then the tale begins. By putting the action at the beginning, Shakespeare
ensures that he has captured the audience s immediate interest by showcasing a corrupted man s inner
thoughts. Richard is deeply infatuated with power, and he craves war and death alike. That is what the
speech tells the audience, and when reading the speech aloud, it is very easily noted the amount of
rage and jealousy that is laced through every word. Though Richard says that they are in a current
time of peace, he feels none. He wants no part in the tranquility that has been brought to the land since
the end of the War. What the man wants is conflict instead going as far as insulting death and war
itself. Richard personifies war, saying that it has gone and joined in the festivities of the day and has
found love. In that instant, Richard is jealous of it, for he says that love will not find him because he is
deformed. For this reason, Richard is plagued with the very

Consumer Culture And Contemporary Childhood Agency
Sociologists have looked at consumption theories primarily through adult relationships of production
and consumption. By introducing children as consumers, it is opens up a wide range of areas to study
their influence on consumer culture. It is evident through the child s relationship with their parents,
money, identity, and social relations that children have a crucial role in consumption patterns. New
marketing and advertising techniques have been introduced accordingly, further emerging the child
consumer and their influence on the economy. The child s relationship with technological devices
opens them up to a world of advertisements and marketing ploys made just for them. The idea of
consumer culture and contemporary childhood agency have been interwoven and then becomes
questioned whether it is benefitical to children or not. This develops concern in many parents as they
feel as though they should be protecting their children from these influences. This paper will address
the issue of children as passive or active consumers and whether their participation in consumerism is
useful to them. The development of the child consumer begins with the expecting mother as
advertisers, marketers, designers and retailers look to capture the attention of mothers to set their
children up as consumers before they are even born. Expecting mothers are bombarded with
advertising and marketing schemes to start the child s consumption patterns. An example of this being
the gifts given

Tennyson s The Arrow And The Charge Of The Light Brigade
Out of all the poems Tennyson wrote, The Eagle and The Charge Of The Light Brigade was the ones
that have been selected. Tennyson was one of the greats that came from the Victorian era. Tennyson
wasn t just known for being a poet, he was also known for writing plays and music. There will be
some comparing and contrasting of The Eagle and The Charge Of The Light Brigade on the poetic
devices Tennyson used and what inspired him to write both these poems. Tennyson was inspired to
write The Eagle when he went to the mountain. Even though The Eagle was a short poem, it had a lot
of imagery. He clasps the crag with crooked hands a good use of imagery in this poem. It is also a
metaphor because Tennyson wrote it as if the eagle had hands like a human. It explained about how
the eagle lives in its natural habitat. The Eagle had a rhyme scheme of (a, a, a) which is a triple rhyme,
where the stanzas have three lines and they all rhyme. The poem also contains alliteration and simile.
And like a thunderbolt he falls is a simile that was used that could be used to describe the eagle
falling. In all cases we would think Tennyson meant the eagle was falling fast like a thunderbolt but he
wasn t. Although the unwary reader might associate the swift, downward flight of the eagle with a
lightning bolt, Tennyson does not use this term (Jackson 26). He was wording it as the sound of the
rock landing a thunderbolt (Jackson 26). The poem uses alliteration such as He

For Six Months During 1835 And 1836, The People Of Texas,
For six months during 1835 and 1836, the people of Texas, both Tejanos and colonist, fought for their
independence from Mexico and from Santa Anna, who had been establishing new, stricter laws for
those in Texas. In the most iconic battle of this revolution, the men at the Alamo went beyond what
was expected of the typical Texas soldier in the revolution and their deaths created a thirst for revenge
that lasted through the rest of the war. It was this thirst for revenge that played a significant role in the
success at the Battle of San Jacinto. As was true with the rest of the Texas revolutionaries, there was
variety in the group of men who fought at the Alamo. They were freemen and slaves, Tejanos and
Texans, those who were willing to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Fannin s attitude is not necessarily representative of the rest of the Texas Army, there was
certainly a difference between the Texas Army and the men at the Alamo. Although all of the soldiers
fighting in the revolution were putting their lives at risk, the men at the Alamo knowingly sacrificed
their lives because of their commitment to their cause. Prior to the battle of the Alamo, San Antonio
was taken by the Texas army with significant help from the local Tejanos population. Approximately
160 Tejanos fought, many from the city to which they were laying siege. While having the Tejanos on
the same side as the Texans was incredibly beneficial, the relationship began to fall apart quickly, due
in part to the Texas soldiers need for supplies and their lack of funds. The Texans started to simply
take what they needed, be it crops or livestock. Although farmers and ranchers received assurances
that they would be reimbursed in the years following the war, it was small comfort. Another problem
was the difference in what the two groups were trying to accomplish. While the Texans were seeking
complete freedom from Mexico, the majority of Tejanos wanted to become a Federalism within
Mexico. This difference in end goals coupled

Understanding How Social Change Has Affected Rural China
Introduction
There are many changes that have occurred in the Peoples Republic of China over a short period of
time. This is mainly because of the changing climate in relation to a number of areas and perspectives.
For instance, there are varied factors that have led to the changes that have been experienced in the
social, political, and economic culture. Since 1949 there have been many changes in the social aspect
in China. These changes are related to a number of events that will be explained in different sections.

Nonetheless, the changes in the relationships are thought to be based on the rural development in
China over the last four decades.
Social Changes in Rural China
There are several changes that have affected the social aspect in rural china since 1949. Most of these
have had a great influence in rewriting the history of the regions. One of the most evident changes
took place following the revolution in 1949. Thirty years after winning the revolution against the
colonial and the feudal cultures China has been able to establish a tradition that Walder describes as
more robust. However, during the entire period there was an unpredictable environment for the
occurrence of the revolutions. As a result, from 1949 to 1978, a number of changes by varied
institutions and social movements that were not controlled by the choices of the Chinese people have
taken place. These choices exerted some positive changes on the values and the social behaviors of the
people. But, they also had some negative effects. The people had a great passion for revolution that
inspired most of the events since 1949, it largely differs from the social mentality and the traditional
culture. It cannot be said to be modern since the traditional values and the social mentality still affect
China and its people in varied ways (Fan, Heberer

Kenya s Agriculture And Economics Of Kenya
Most people correlate Kenya to long distance runners, of the beginning of man, its plethora of
wildlife, and maybe Barack Obama. However, what they may have not contemplated was Kenya s
agriculture and how it has affected the culture and economics of Kenya. Tea, coffee, sisal, pyrethrum,
corn, and wheat are grown in the fertile highlands, one of the most successful agricultural production
regions in Africa. Production is mainly on small African owned farms formed from the division of
formerly European owned estates. Coffee in Kenya is big business, but it is grown mainly on small
farms by farmer s co ops working together. Looking into Kenya s past will help to clarify how coffee
became an agricultural commodity, and give insight into its beginnings. Before outsiders came into
Africa, the country now known as Kenya, was a nomadic area inhabited by Cushite people. It was not
until the first century B.C. when Arabic people came to the area as traders. They soon began to
colonize areas along the coast of the Indian Ocean. Also in the first century the Bantu began to settle
areas inland from the coast. It took Europeans over fourteen hundred more years to make their way to
Kenya. Kenya was now under the rule of the Portuguese. From the sixteenth until the nineteenth
century Kenya was an Islamic state, then it became a British colony. It was in the 19th century when
an eastern area of Africa becomes Kenya. In 1888, Kenya comes under British rule,

Roethke s Smart Balance of Joy, Fear and Tension in His...
Inevitability at one point in most of our lives we have to deal with some type of hardship. A lot of us
have experienced first hand or known someone who has had the unfortunate experience of dealing
with a close friend or family member who becomes abusive and aggressive because of drug or alcohol
related problems. My Papa s waltz is a poem that tells the story of a young boy dealing with an
abusive father and a broken home. Despite the initial light atmosphere of the poem Theodore Roethke
uses strong and powerful language to convey an underlined meaning to their dance. My Papa s Waltz
is a poem of fear, all the more horrible because the boy is terrified and hurt by his father, even in play,
yet he clings and hangs to him showing how strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Someone has to lead in a waltz, which highlights the father s control over the small boy. It isn t
because the boy is being led, but instead the way the father is leading is what makes the dance not
easy. Roethke uses the verb waltz to impose a sense of joy to the poem, because on literal level the
waltz should be easy and smooth, but for the boy and his father it isn t because apparently, their lives
together aren t easy. Continuing the tone of the first stanza, in the second stanza of the poem the word
romped makes their waltz sound carefree, but they romped until the pans/ Slid from the kitchen shelf.
Lines 5 and 6 show how their waltz is causing a violent disruption in their home that even the boys
mother could not tolerate. Again with something that sounds as care free as dancing with your father
Roethke implies an undertone of disturbance and violence that is inevitably taking a toll on their
family and home life. Likewise in the third stanza the speaker mentions that the hand that held his
wrist was battered on one knuckle. Undoubtedly, a hand holding a wrist is more aggressive and
dominant than just a hand holding a hand like in a typical waltz, which is suppose to a smooth and
easy glide. The fathers hand holding the speakers wrist shows both the difference in the size of their
hands and that the speaker waltzes unwillingly. The fact that Roethke chooses the word battered

Compare And Contrast Greek And Etruscan Art
Greek and Etruscan art 1. There are numerous instances of the Etruscan artists taking their cue from
Greek artists. The tendency was so prevalent that at one time historians considered Etruscan art as
wholly derivative. The Etruscans did copy a lot of Greek art in both technique and design. One of
those instances is in their construction of their temples. There is a definite similarity in both technique
and design. The Etruscans incorporated columns in their temples long after the Greeks started doing
so, and the similarities did not end there. There were sculptures and paintings inside the temples that
were patently Greek in design. The Etruscans traded with Greece and attacked it several times, so
there were several points of interaction and copying. The above example does not however evacuate
the fact that there was art that was patently Etruscan. That civilization had a lot of foreign influences;
from Greek to Roman, but it did have its own original art. An example is painting of tomb interiors.
Before these were dated, they were thought to be copies of Greek art. However, dating has proved that
the paintings existed before the Greeks started doing their murals. It is proof that the Etruscans did ...

The advantage of studying Etruscan culture side by side with Roman art is mainly to take advantage of
the interaction of cultures. The two civilizations were in the same area at the same time in existence.
There were conflicts, but there was also trade between the neighbors. Due to the proximity, they must
have shared numerous cultural aspects. One could find him or herself repeating research into Roman
art when the question could be answered by an aspect of Etruscan art. The two civilizations became
mutually inclusive because of that aspect of neighborliness. The aspect of Romulus and Remus being
fed by the wolf is a point of congregation for both of the civilizations. That congruence is significant
because the concept is central to the existence of both

Computers And Other Types Of Electronics
For ages the question has been debated, to what do humans owe our thinking abilities and can
computers and other types of electronics have the capacity to think? Over millions of years humans
have developed the capacity to think critically and to have higher intelligent thinking than other
animals. The human brain has evolved to have a prefrontal cortex which is responsible for executive
functioning. These functions include responding to complex problems, maintaining a set behavior,
planning, problem solving, judging a situation, and making good, intellectual choices. With
developments such as these higher functions, humans have the ability to fully comprehend situations
with their minds, and can act at their own free will to make choices, unlike computers. Computers
must be acted upon in order to think or to search for an answer. Computers are an invention created by
man. They must be programmed to something, they do not exist or act without the assistance of man.
Since computers are not able to think on their own and must be programmed by man, a computer
should not be considered to know how to think. Thinking is complex in that it requires you to ponder a
choice and for you to comprehend and analyze it to make a final decision. To think is to contemplate
various scenarios and situations and reason. In order to think you must have an initial thought or idea
that was triggered by some type of stimuli. To contemplate such stimuli you would need a mind or
something to

An Egg Is A Terrible Thing To Waste Essay
This is your Brain on Drugs was a public service announcement created in 1987 by the Partnership for
a Drug Free America foundation. The ad was later re imaged in 1998 under the same title, and much
of the same premise. The arguments of both advertisements were the caustic effects of drugs on your
brain. The PFDA formed in the mid eighties with the simple idea of using ads to advocate the dangers
of drugs use. They believed the persuasive nature of advertisements could denounce a product as
effectively as they could promote them. Their first real success came with the original This is your

same techniques. These techniques greatly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, one can sense the adverts lack of answers, as if there has been some omitted scene of
earnestly raised hands all begging, Yes, actually I do have a few questions. Namely, the claim
someone s brain would be irreparably damaged because they snort heroin once. As an example, it only
takes a single blow to destroy the egg, and there s no mention of contiguous snorting to implicate
prolonged use. The imagery used attempts to warrant that if you snort heroin you will destroy your
mind and body. The term for this type of circular reasoning is known as begging the question. Andrea
Lunsford and John Ruszkiewicz showcase the fallacy s central error as being made on grounds that
cannot be accepted as true because those grounds are in doubt (529). For instance, if simply snorting
drugs led to unequivocal brain damage there would be less addicts, and higher fatality rates from drug
use. Although the dangers of prolonged drug use are well known, this precise analogy only works if
one accepts that the human mind and body are tantamount to the fragility of an ordinary egg. The
image of the fragile egg plays well into the second fallacy: the often used scare tactic known as the
slippery slope. Lundsford and Ruszkiewicz describe this argument as one that portrays today s tiny
misstep as tomorrow s slide

The Rot The Heart Of The Brazilian Economy Summary
Since the great depression, our understanding of what makes an economy grow or contract changed a
bit. New macroeconomics concepts became popular, sometimes even taking place of classic ones.
Using those concepts, Christopher Sabatini wrote the article The Rot the Heart of the Brazilian
Economy , published by the Foreign Policy (FP) website on last February. In the article, Sabatini tries
to explain what went wrong with the once very prosperous Brazilian economy, which in the past years
has been diving into a recession that is so deep that many economists already call it a depression. The
purpose of this paper is to explain Keynesian model and fiscal policy, concepts that I have learned in
the macroeconomics classes and that helped me to understand ... Show more content on

First, let us remember that when the government sells bonds with bigger yields, everyone will be
interested in taking advantage of that opportunity, not only Americans. In fact, foreigners can and will
buy those American bonds, and they will need American dollars to do so. The sudden demand for
American dollars will make the dollar value spike up, and with an expensive currency, U.S. products
will become more expensive and less attractive to foreigners which will finally decrease X and AD.
This is the open economy effect. Lastly, the government relies in the fact that the most part of the
population are economically ignorant . However, some households and companies are aware of the
economy situation, and will not react as the government expects. They will actually start saving as
soon as they realize that the federal administration is borrowing money to increase spending; that
happens because the government eventually will have to increase federal taxes to pay that bill.
Because C and I play the major role in the AD curve, this will also compromise the economic goals of

Beethoven Piano Sonata Analysis
Beethoven was one of the most influential composers of the late classical era. Of all the forms of
music he composed one constant during Beethoven s career were his piano sonatas, which were
composed during his early, middle, and late periods. These sonatas far exceeded those created by
composers before and are considered to be the bridge between salon music and the concert hall for
solo piano repertoire. The early sonatas follow the same traditions established by Mozart and Haydn
and by the end of the late period are radically different from conventional form. The late sonatas, Op.
101, 106, 109, 110, and 111, are distinctly different from the other sonatas that came before in their
style, forms, and composition. The pieces that I have chosen are the last five piano sonatas from
Beethoven s late period. These pieces are reflective of the changes of Beethoven s compositional style
as in his older age he began to stretch the limits of the classical style. The piano sonatas are reflective
of what he was doing in all of his later works and are sort of condensed versions that still show the
same ideas. Because piano sonatas were composed throughout his lifetime, they can be interpreted as
a timeline of the changes in Beethoven s style of composing, particularly in the late sonatas.
Beethoven had never been a very rapid composer and these five sonatas were the chief output of six
years of work in the second to last decade of his life. Beethoven s increasing deafness was a major

Bison Offense
Last night in Dayton, at Welcome stadium the Belmont Bison hosted the Bulldogs from Woodward
high school, out of Cincinnati. Belmont has shown a very high octane running offense at times this
season, while the Bulldogs has been up and down not only only offense but defense as well.
Things got start with a bang, when Dawson Martin took off for a sixteen yard run, showing speed and
nice field vision. Martin would close out the drive on a 2 yard run to make this a,6 0 game. A two
point conversion run by,Elijah Malcolm made the score,8 0, with 9:05 left in the quarter.

Martin converted the conversion run to make this a,32 6 game. The other play on the drive came on a
seventy four yard run by Dorrick Conner.
In watching this much of the game the one question that popped in my head was,how did Liberty
Union shut out this Belmont team/ I have seen Liberty Union earlier this season in their blowout win
over the Tigers, from Columbus East.
Woodward had to know this game was all but over at the 5:38 mark of the 2nd quarter, so they decided
to go for it on fourth down, needing fourteen yards for the first down, deep in their own territory. The
decision went from bad to worse when Reliford was called for intentional grounding, giving the ball to
Belmont at the Bulldogs nine yard line.
The Bison scored on their next play, when quarterback Justin Young ran in the end zone. Another two
point conversion run was successful, this time by Malcom to make this a,40 6 game.
Belmont s offense was back at work at the 3:37 mark of the quarter with Young running for eighteen
yards. Young would be sacked on the drive by #17(not on either roster I have)for a short loss at the
1:36 mark of the quarter. The drive ended on a 39 yard pass from Young to a wide opened Ja don
Rucker furlow with :52 showing on the clock. This time it would be Dorrick Conner converting the

The Accident Of Emergency Medical Technician
I sharply inhaled as I heard the muffled sound of footsteps, tuning them out to return to my slumber.
However, the footsteps continued to pitter patter outside my door. Groggily, I got up and opened my
bedroom door expecting to see my brother messing around in the hallway. What I did not expect was
to see a team of Emergency Medical Technician s struggling to get my father onto a stretcher down the
stairs. It was the summer before my senior year of high school and my siblings usually stayed up late
binging the latest addictive series on Netflix. But tonight was radically different from other late nights.
Now at this moment I was paralyzed with fear and had no idea that the events that would unfold next
would test my endurance in the most strenuous way. It was four in the morning and I was having
difficulty processing what was unfolding even though it was already laid out before me. Once our
ambulance arrived to the emergency room we were told that my father s heart beat was irregularly low
and that several of his arteries were clogged. The Electrocardiogram showed that my father had a mild
heart attack and was on his way to a more severe one, one that the doctors did not think he could come
back from. His arteries had failed to receive, as well as export blood from his heart and the doctors
proceeded to try to place a stent in order to keep the paths clean. However, they continued to collapse
and a stent was no longer an option. My father urgently needed a triple bypass,

Racism In The Color Purple
In the book, Class, the writer Paul Fussell states that if navy is the upper middle class color, purple is
the prole equivalent, and purple polyester pantsuit is the absolutely bottom . In fact, he urges the
reader to avoid purple under all circumstances . However, I m not trying to call Fussell out as a racist.
I want to point out how he details the discrimination the color purple faces, which echoes to the
discrimination black people face in the 20th century. As the color purple is the closest representation
of Black American s complexion. On the black to white gradient, purple is the color closest to black. If
we think of what the transition emerged from the color black conveys, we need to put the color under
a social and cultural context. If we see Black Africans as black, White people as white, then purple
matches Black Americans in this analogy. Steven Spielberg s movie adaption of The Color Purple uses
color to indicate Black Americans historical attempt to make a transition to White people. In the
movie, the colors are encoded with deeper meanings. The color white represents the oppression, while
black represents the oppressed. The blacker it is, the more oppressed it signifies. There is a detail that
can be easily overlooked the old Mr. Johnson has rather pale complexion as a black person. From the
presentation of him being almost white, we can infer that the erosive influence White people have on
Black people s mind and body. Mr.___ in the movie lives

The Aeneid By Virgil Is An Epic War Poetry
The Aeneid by Virgil is an epic war poetry written in the 19 B.C.E based on the Trojan War. The poem
narrates a story of a Trojan who visited Italy where he came the Romans ancestor. In the context of the
poem, gods have much quoted manipulating; plotting and working against humans they abhor (Virgil
Ferry, n.d.). Despite the god s cunning behaviors, their actions end up putting destiny back on its
proper course. Gods, future, and fate are essential aspects of Greek epic poetry .in most Greek god s

Juno is the first god to intervene in the Trojan War. When she heard rumors that her favorite city
Carthage was about to be destroyed by the Trojans, she persuades Aeolus god of the wind to put a
storm to destroy Aeneas and his fleet who are on their way to Italy ( The Internet Classics Archive |
The Aeneid by Virgil , 2017). Those who want to proceed on to Italy are about to start the journey
when Venus, fearing that Juno will again cause trouble, asks the sea god Neptune to give assurance of
a safe journey for her son. Neptune does as Venus has requested in exchange for one human life,
which turns out to of Aeneas s ship s pilot, Palinurus, who falls overboard but can swim to land, only
to be killed by thugs.
Fortunately, Neptune god of the sea restrains the storm saving Aeneas and seven of his ships who then
take refuge in Libya an African port. I found that scene similar to Homer s Odyssey where Poseidon
the sea god sends a storm to destroy Odysseus on his way home because he despised him just like
Juno in the Aeneid, another god rescues similar Odysseus. Such scenes demonstrate the life altering
effect that the gods have on the humans even though they lack the supreme power to change human
fate. Gods in the Trojan War manipulate the humans like puppets to fulfill their purposes and interests.

Ethical Issues Related To The PCBH Model

Midwestern University, Glendale
Reaction Paper #1
Chapter 13 in Behavioral Consultation and Primary Care: A Guide to Integrating Services discusses
common ethical concerns that arise within the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model.
Robinson and Reiter (2016) illustrate these common concerns through artificial case examples that
address issues related to competence, informed consent, and confidentiality. Each of these ethical
concerns are found within any field of psychology; however, the paradigm shift that the PCBH model
reflects leads to several new questions regarding these issues. Robinson and Reiter (2016) discussed
these ethical topics particularly related to the PCBH model. The first case illustrated by Robinson and
Reiter (2016) pertains to competence within the PCBH model. Specific guidelines are provided to
demonstrate how a psychologist can gain competence within different subsects established within the
field of psychology. For example, some states have specific requirements that a psychologist must

is no need for a separate informed consent because the informed consent signed by the patient at the

A Student At Hampton University
I wish I could say it still surprises me when I mentioned to people that I attended an HBCU

to college easier than I anticipated. There was a feeling of communities that allowed me to feel free to

British Education System
The development of the British education system and the impact of this development on UK culture
and society
From 4416 cities, 195 countries and 7 continents Britain is thought to be one of the worlds most
exceptional and fascinating countries to be educated in. In Britain education first began emerging
around 1680s, from then onwards the British education system has continued to develop till this day.
This has meant that the UK s education system has become a very successful and inclusive system.
According to (Aftab Ali 2016) Britain is thought to have one of the world s strongest higher education
systems. Second after the USA with a score of 98.5. Also, (Aftab Ali 2016) mentions that European
countries emerge as the most featured than any other continent. This means that Europe has a global
reputation in the eyes of international students. As a result of this global reputation students are
attracted to studying in the UK. Furthermore, this essay will discuss the development of the British
education system over the last 150 years and it will evaluate the impact of this development on culture
and society.
The first set of schools and the main education acts that shaped the British education system existed in
the 19th century. During the early 19th century there wasn t an appropriate state provision system for
the UK s education. However, later in 1870 the Elementary Education Act was introduced to create

The Monkey s Paw And What Of This Goldfish Would You Wish...
The stories, The Monkey s Paw and What, of this Goldfish, Would You Wish, are both based on the
idea of what someone would do with three wishes. The Monkey s Paw is a short story based on a
family which acquires a monkey s paw that is magical. In the end, it causes many problems for the
family. What, of this Goldfish, Would You Wish is a legend about an Israeli boy,Yoni, who is shooting
a documentary about what would people wish for if they had a magic goldfish who grants three
wishes. One of the interviews goes wrong, and Yoni is killed, but he comes back to life because of a
wish granted by a magic goldfish. Although the stories, The Monkey s Paw, by W.W. Jacobs, and
What, of this Goldfish, Would You Wish, by Etgar Keret, have different settings and the last wished
used are contrasting, the magic talisman grants three wishes in both stories.
Jacobs story and Keret s story have very different settings. In Jacobs story, the words without, parlor,
and hark are used (Jacobs). The way the Whites are speaking and the words that are used in the story
show that they are in an earlier time period. However, in Keret s story, it says, Yonatan had a brilliant
idea for a documentary (Keret). A documentary is a movie or television program, and since Yonatan is
shooting a documentary, which he needs a video camera for, the story takes place in the modern day
world. Another reason the settings of the stories are different is because in Jacobs , Mr. White says,
...of all the beastly, slushy, out of the way places to live in, this is the worst. Pathway s a bog, and the
road s a torrent (Jacobs). This statement implies that they live in the countryside. On the other hand, in
Keret s story, Yonatan is filming in a sleepy suburb of Tel Aviv (Keret). Tel Aviv is a city in Israel, so
the story takes place in the Middle East. The settings of The Monkey s Paw and What, of this
Goldfish, Would You Wish are not similar.
The last wishes in both stories are used in drastically different ways. After Mr. White finds the paw,
which he dropped, he wishes and the knocking ceased suddenly... (Jacobs). Since the knocking
stopped, Mr. White s last wish was to make is now alive son go away, which means that his last

Animal Farm George Orwell Analysis
On the surface, George Orwell s novel Animal Farm is about a group of neglected animals that
overthrow their owner and take control of their farm. However, under the surface this novel is an
allegory detailing the events of the Russian Revolution. Orwell wrote Animal Farm in the response to
the corruption happening during the Russian Revolution. This was his first political and artistic
purpose. The authors use of anthropomorphism and common diction leads us to believe he intended
the novel to be read by the everyday man or lay person. Orwell wrote this as a warning to the readers
with its central theme that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts. The author uses a detached 3rd
person narrative to describe the events as they unfold in the story. While Orwell uses many stylistic
devices in Animal Farm the two that impact the reader the most while developing the message are
symbolism and irony.Ultimately, Orwell effectively fuses ( or blends) his political and artistic purpose
into a single powerful work of art in his short novel Animal Farm.
George Orwell s essay Why I Write is a small bibliography about his experiences with writing and
how his writing has changed over time. In this he also includes some of the 4 purposes of writing.
Orwell wrote this because he wants to explain the purpose of his writing while also informing them on
the other true purposes of why writers write. The author s essay is intended for upcoming

Bans on Smoking in Public Areas
Imagine all of the people that die in accidents such as car crashes, fires, falls, and poisoning each year.
If you add all of these together and then multiply that number by four, you get the number of people
that die because of smoking each year! Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the U.S.
Each year more than 480,000 people die because of smoking. This is just one of the many reasons
why I believe that cigarette smoking should be banned in public areas. I will argue this point in three
ways. First, I will argue that the health effects of smoking are so harmful that cigarettes should not be
allowed in public areas. Next, I will argue that the negative effects go beyond just health, but to the
money of people affected by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cigarettes can do just as much damage if not more than a car crash can. Not only is smoking
dangerous to the health and safety of people, but to the money of people as well. The habit of smoking
takes huge amounts of money from smokers. The amount of money that smoking takes away from the
smoker is enough to destroy their lives. It also takes money from businesses, which is something
many business owners don t understand. These are just a few more reasons why the smoking of
cigarettes should be banned in public areas. The cost of cigarettes are much much bigger than one
would expect. According to The Price of Smoking the private costs of smoking for the average person
that starts smoking at age 24 and lives to age 100 ends up being about 141,181 dollars. This is the
average cost between the total private cost for women and the total private cost for men. The cost for
women is about 86,236 dollars and about 182,860 dollars for men. With this amount of money you
could buy a new home or several new cars. A lot of times the smoker will also ask for money from
friends or family. According to The Smoking Book, the costs that are imposed on the spouse of the
smoker (again if they begin at age 24 and live to age 100) average at about 23,407 dollars. This is also
the average price between women and men. The cost for women is about 15,985 dollars and about
29,037 dollars for men. Obviously, the habit of smoking cigarettes

Jim Crow Laws In The US
Societies of culture and different histories from one another in America were once deprived of their
essential civil rights along with laws made to separate dissimilar races from white people, this system
is known as Jim Crow Laws. Jim Crow Laws were meant to keep certain races, like African
Americans, away from the main race in numerous conditions, such as education, jobs, transportation,
even in marriage. Notably, in the article Jim Crow Laws: Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic
Site it states, The marriage of a white person with a negro or mulatto or person who shall have one
eighth or more of negro blood, shall be unlawful and void. (Mississippi SB 198). This law forbad
many African Americans and white people from being married

Discussion of Virtue in Meno by Socrates
Plato reveals the views of Socrates on the query of whether virtue is knowledge and whether virtue
may be taught in a number of dialogues, mainly in Meno. In the dialogue, Socrates creates several
differing arguments on virtue, which include the definition of virtue and questions on whether persons
can attain it. In addition, Plato demonstrates the means by which virtue can be obtained, as well as
ponders on whether persons are born virtuous, whether virtue may be taught or it is an added factor for
righteous individuals (Novelguide.com n.pag.). The paper will focus on Socrates query of whether
virtue is knowledge as well as highlight whether virtue may be taught. After Meno asks his initial
question, that is whether a person can be able to be taught virtue, or a person can gain the same
through nature, Socrates assents to continue but argues that a common understanding is required since
neither of them could be capable of comprehensively explaining the meaning of virtue. Then Meno
was made to consent that if virtue is not knowledge then one cannot be taught virtue. However, if it is
knowledge, it can be taught (Holbo and Waring). Socrates asserts that a person can teach something
only if he or she is acquainted with what it is that he/she is teaching. A person who does not know how
to drive a vehicle himself of herself is unlikely to be capable of teaching another person how to do so.
Meno and Socrates fully agree that no one exactly knows what virtue means, and due to

Destroying The Earth Is Destroying Earth
The big question for all of us to answer is Why is deforestation still happening each and every day if is
destroying the Earth? . Deforestation tends to only benefit humankind, and seems to forget about the
negative consequences to the environment. Instead of thinking about the future and how our actions
have consequences, humans seem to only be thinking about their pocketbooks. For example, farming
is one of the main reasons for deforestation. Three hundred million farmers use the slash and burn
method for agriculture. Farming clears forests using the slash and burn method, which in turn provides
a clear plot of land to grow crops for humans. Although it is good to provide food, the slash and burn
method is very dangerous (Deforestation Facts and Statistics). The slash and burn method cuts down
and burns off trees before the new seeds are sown to clear land to farm. In theory, the slash and burn
method is supposed to give communities food and income. However, the negative results include
erosion, decreased biodiversity, and nutrient loss. Arguably, the most significant adverse outcome
involves the huge net increase in global carbon emissions that results from the slash and burn method.
One solution to the slash and burn process involves chopping down selected trees that look weaker
and saving the strong trees to produce offspring, which should assist with stabilizing the environment
(Sitler, Ryan). Logging is another main cause of deforestation. Logging is

  • 2. Univariance Lab Report The principle of univariance The principle of univariance states that an unlimited set of diverse wavelength intensity mixtures can produce the same response from a single kind of photoreceptor. Having the photoreceptor to respond with the same rate creates a problem, as the human eye favors to perceive wavelength and amplitude. These are two aspects of light that allow us to perceive color and brightness. Furthermore, a single sort of cone is able to provide a neural firing rate, which varies in one dimension or is univariate. However, for an accurate and complete vision, humans need to code for two dimensions. For instance, having one type of cone would prevent a person from perceiving color vision. In this experiment, the firing rate a cone has to different lights is explored. In order to make the cone to fire to a high extent, the wavelength has to be in 550, and with 90% amplitude. However, this firing rate changes when the color is changed to a darker color, like with dark blue. In this case the amplitude is in 50% and the wavelength in 450. This shows this cone is univariant, but can fire with less intensity with darker colors. Trichromacy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This activity allows the participant to observe the responses for the L, M, and S cones. This activity shows that the cones have different response rates to different lights. For instance, the S cones, which are short wavelength cones, have a high firing rate with 90% amplitude of blue light. However, the L cones, which are long wavelength cones, have a strong firing rate with 90% amplitude of red light. This is consistent with the length of the light wavelengths. For instance, the M cones, which has medium wavelength respectively responds to medium wavelength light, which is green ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Csci 652 Telecom And Networking Security CSCI 652 Telecom and Networking Security Kotcherlakota Nitin Z1747551 Q: X.805 security architecture, how it compares with the X.800 network security access architecture A: X.805 architecture was developed by the Telecommunications standardization sector of the International Telecommunications Union X.805 (ITU T X.805) on October 2003 to provide end to end transmission of data from one network to another. The Security architecture logically separates complicated arrangement of end to end system s security related features into discrete architectural components. This discretion allows a certain systematic way to deal with end to end security that can be utilized for planning of new security solutions and for accessing the security of the current networks. The security architecture gives a complete, top down, end to end point of view of system security and can be connected to network components, administrations, and applications keeping in mind the end goal to distinguish, anticipate, and correct security vulnerabilities. There are various threats that should be taken into consideration since these threats are likely to destruct, corrupt remove disclose or interrupt any information or services that helps in the efficiency of an application. The main issues that X.805 addresses are shown below: 1. What are the threats that can occur and what kind of protection can be provided? 2. Cat On A Hot Tin Roof Misogynist The Misogynistic Tendencies of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams In the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof there are three main women in the play they include Margaret (usually called Maggie), Mae and Big Mama. These three women play an intricate roll in the play but also have to deal with very misogynistic attitudes toward them. The relationships between almost all of the characters in the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof has very misogynistic under tones and overall lack of respect for women. In this essay I will firstly express what the common role of the women was in the 1950 s. Secondly, I will discuss the misogynistic attitudes towards the women. And Finally I will discuss the misogynistic attitudes between the women themselves in this play. During the 1950 s, women had very different roles than they do today. In the 1950 s one of the main role of the women was bearing children. In the case of Maggie she was constantly pestered by Big Mama and Big Daddy about not having any children, Big Mama says to Maggie Something s not right! You re childless and my son drinks (272). • 5. The Shawshank Redemption Is An American Drama Film... The Shawshank redemption is an American drama film written and directed by Frank Darabont in the year 1994, starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. The film s screenplay has been adapted from the Stephen King Novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank redemption and talks about the life of a man named Andy Dufresne, a banker who is sentenced to life imprisonment in the Shawshank State prison for murder of his wife and her lover, even despite his claims of innocence. While the main genre of the film is drama, it fits into the sub genres of a crime and drama thriller due to its complex narrative. The narrative is based on prison life and how Andy Dufrense who is the protagonist, copes with this life imprisonment. Shawshank redemption places its emphasis on the action taking place rather than the psychological meaning, which only adds to the reasoning of why thriller is the main sub genre. The movie stars Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman as two convicts serving time in a New England prison named Shawshank. The setting of the film is mainly of the Shawshank prison, which is an external location and is focused on the day to day activities of the prisoners. Tim Robbins plays the role of a man named Andy Dufresne who is the main protagonist, while Morgan Freeman plays the role of Ellis Boyd Redding or simply Red. Supporting characters are played by James Whitmore who is Brooks Hatlen, the librarian and one of the oldest convicts in the prison, Bob Gunton as Warden Samuel Norton who is ... • 8. Is Shakespeare s Monologues And Soliloquie In Romeo And... Shakespeare is renowned for his powerful monologues and soliloquies; from Romeo and Juliet s lamenting beginning, as well as Hamlet s dreary end. Richard III is no different, the opening speech in the beginning tells the audience Richard s immediate intentions; an action deliberately made by Shakespeare. By introducing the play this way it gives the reader a sneak inside the man s wicked soul, giving no doubt to the evil that is about to happen. Much like in Romeo and Juliet, the plot or plan, rather is explained and then the tale begins. By putting the action at the beginning, Shakespeare ensures that he has captured the audience s immediate interest by showcasing a corrupted man s inner thoughts. Richard is deeply infatuated with power, and he craves war and death alike. That is what the speech tells the audience, and when reading the speech aloud, it is very easily noted the amount of rage and jealousy that is laced through every word. Though Richard says that they are in a current time of peace, he feels none. He wants no part in the tranquility that has been brought to the land since the end of the War. What the man wants is conflict instead going as far as insulting death and war itself. Richard personifies war, saying that it has gone and joined in the festivities of the day and has found love. In that instant, Richard is jealous of it, for he says that love will not find him because he is deformed. For this reason, Richard is plagued with the very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is evident through the child s relationship with their parents, money, identity, and social relations that children have a crucial role in consumption patterns. New marketing and advertising techniques have been introduced accordingly, further emerging the child consumer and their influence on the economy. The child s relationship with technological devices opens them up to a world of advertisements and marketing ploys made just for them. The idea of consumer culture and contemporary childhood agency have been interwoven and then becomes questioned whether it is benefitical to children or not. This develops concern in many parents as they feel as though they should be protecting their children from these influences. This paper will address the issue of children as passive or active consumers and whether their participation in consumerism is useful to them. The development of the child consumer begins with the expecting mother as advertisers, marketers, designers and retailers look to capture the attention of mothers to set their children up as consumers before they are even born. Expecting mothers are bombarded with advertising and marketing schemes to start the child s consumption patterns. An example of this being the gifts given ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Tennyson s The Arrow And The Charge Of The Light Brigade Out of all the poems Tennyson wrote, The Eagle and The Charge Of The Light Brigade was the ones that have been selected. Tennyson was one of the greats that came from the Victorian era. Tennyson wasn t just known for being a poet, he was also known for writing plays and music. There will be some comparing and contrasting of The Eagle and The Charge Of The Light Brigade on the poetic devices Tennyson used and what inspired him to write both these poems. Tennyson was inspired to write The Eagle when he went to the mountain. Even though The Eagle was a short poem, it had a lot of imagery. He clasps the crag with crooked hands a good use of imagery in this poem. It is also a metaphor because Tennyson wrote it as if the eagle had hands like a human. It explained about how the eagle lives in its natural habitat. The Eagle had a rhyme scheme of (a, a, a) which is a triple rhyme, where the stanzas have three lines and they all rhyme. The poem also contains alliteration and simile. And like a thunderbolt he falls is a simile that was used that could be used to describe the eagle falling. In all cases we would think Tennyson meant the eagle was falling fast like a thunderbolt but he wasn t. Although the unwary reader might associate the swift, downward flight of the eagle with a lightning bolt, Tennyson does not use this term (Jackson 26). He was wording it as the sound of the rock landing a thunderbolt (Jackson 26). The poem uses alliteration such as He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the most iconic battle of this revolution, the men at the Alamo went beyond what was expected of the typical Texas soldier in the revolution and their deaths created a thirst for revenge that lasted through the rest of the war. It was this thirst for revenge that played a significant role in the success at the Battle of San Jacinto. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Fannin s attitude is not necessarily representative of the rest of the Texas Army, there was certainly a difference between the Texas Army and the men at the Alamo. Although all of the soldiers fighting in the revolution were putting their lives at risk, the men at the Alamo knowingly sacrificed their lives because of their commitment to their cause. Prior to the battle of the Alamo, San Antonio was taken by the Texas army with significant help from the local Tejanos population. Approximately 160 Tejanos fought, many from the city to which they were laying siege. While having the Tejanos on the same side as the Texans was incredibly beneficial, the relationship began to fall apart quickly, due in part to the Texas soldiers need for supplies and their lack of funds. The Texans started to simply take what they needed, be it crops or livestock. Although farmers and ranchers received assurances that they would be reimbursed in the years following the war, it was small comfort. Another problem was the difference in what the two groups were trying to accomplish. While the Texans were seeking complete freedom from Mexico, the majority of Tejanos wanted to become a Federalism within Mexico. This difference in end goals coupled ... However, what they may have not contemplated was Kenya s agriculture and how it has affected the culture and economics of Kenya. Tea, coffee, sisal, pyrethrum, corn, and wheat are grown in the fertile highlands, one of the most successful agricultural production regions in Africa. Production is mainly on small African owned farms formed from the division of formerly European owned estates. Coffee in Kenya is big business, but it is grown mainly on small farms by farmer s co ops working together. Looking into Kenya s past will help to clarify how coffee became an agricultural commodity, and give insight into its beginnings. Before outsiders came into Africa, the country now known as Kenya, was a nomadic area inhabited by Cushite people. It was not until the first century B.C. when Arabic people came to the area as traders. They soon began to colonize areas along the coast of the Indian Ocean. Also in the first century the Bantu began to settle areas inland from the coast. It took Europeans over fourteen hundred more years to make their way to Kenya. A lot of us have experienced first hand or known someone who has had the unfortunate experience of dealing with a close friend or family member who becomes abusive and aggressive because of drug or alcohol related problems. My Papa s waltz is a poem that tells the story of a young boy dealing with an abusive father and a broken home. Despite the initial light atmosphere of the poem Theodore Roethke uses strong and powerful language to convey an underlined meaning to their dance. It isn t because the boy is being led, but instead the way the father is leading is what makes the dance not easy. Roethke uses the verb waltz to impose a sense of joy to the poem, because on literal level the waltz should be easy and smooth, but for the boy and his father it isn t because apparently, their lives together aren t easy. Continuing the tone of the first stanza, in the second stanza of the poem the word romped makes their waltz sound carefree, but they romped until the pans/ Slid from the kitchen shelf. Lines 5 and 6 show how their waltz is causing a violent disruption in their home that even the boys mother could not tolerate. Again with something that sounds as care free as dancing with your father Roethke implies an undertone of disturbance and violence that is inevitably taking a toll on their family and home life. Likewise in the third stanza the speaker mentions that the hand that held his wrist was battered on one knuckle. Undoubtedly, a hand holding a wrist is more aggressive and dominant than just a hand holding a hand like in a typical waltz, which is suppose to a smooth and easy glide. The fathers hand holding the speakers wrist shows both the difference in the size of their hands and that the speaker waltzes unwillingly. The fact that Roethke chooses the word battered ... The tendency was so prevalent that at one time historians considered Etruscan art as wholly derivative. The Etruscans did copy a lot of Greek art in both technique and design. One of those instances is in their construction of their temples. There is a definite similarity in both technique and design. The Etruscans incorporated columns in their temples long after the Greeks started doing so, and the similarities did not end there. There were sculptures and paintings inside the temples that were patently Greek in design. The Etruscans traded with Greece and attacked it several times, so there were several points of interaction and copying. The above example does not however evacuate the fact that there was art that was patently Etruscan. That civilization had a lot of foreign influences; from Greek to Roman, but it did have its own original art. An example is painting of tomb interiors. Before these were dated, they were thought to be copies of Greek art. However, dating has proved that the paintings existed before the Greeks started doing their murals. • 22. Computers And Other Types Of Electronics For ages the question has been debated, to what do humans owe our thinking abilities and can computers and other types of electronics have the capacity to think? Over millions of years humans have developed the capacity to think critically and to have higher intelligent thinking than other animals. The human brain has evolved to have a prefrontal cortex which is responsible for executive functioning. These functions include responding to complex problems, maintaining a set behavior, planning, problem solving, judging a situation, and making good, intellectual choices. With developments such as these higher functions, humans have the ability to fully comprehend situations with their minds, and can act at their own free will to make choices, unlike computers. Computers must be acted upon in order to think or to search for an answer. Computers are an invention created by man. They must be programmed to something, they do not exist or act without the assistance of man. Since computers are not able to think on their own and must be programmed by man, a computer should not be considered to know how to think. Thinking is complex in that it requires you to ponder a choice and for you to comprehend and analyze it to make a final decision. To think is to contemplate various scenarios and situations and reason. In order to think you must have an initial thought or idea that was triggered by some type of stimuli. As an example, it only takes a single blow to destroy the egg, and there s no mention of contiguous snorting to implicate prolonged use. The imagery used attempts to warrant that if you snort heroin you will destroy your mind and body. The term for this type of circular reasoning is known as begging the question. Andrea Lunsford and John Ruszkiewicz showcase the fallacy s central error as being made on grounds that cannot be accepted as true because those grounds are in doubt (529). For instance, if simply snorting drugs led to unequivocal brain damage there would be less addicts, and higher fatality rates from drug use. Although the dangers of prolonged drug use are well known, this precise analogy only works if one accepts that the human mind and body are tantamount to the fragility of an ordinary egg. • 25. Beethoven Piano Sonata Analysis Beethoven was one of the most influential composers of the late classical era. Of all the forms of music he composed one constant during Beethoven s career were his piano sonatas, which were composed during his early, middle, and late periods. These sonatas far exceeded those created by composers before and are considered to be the bridge between salon music and the concert hall for solo piano repertoire. The early sonatas follow the same traditions established by Mozart and Haydn and by the end of the late period are radically different from conventional form. The late sonatas, Op. 101, 106, 109, 110, and 111, are distinctly different from the other sonatas that came before in their style, forms, and composition. The pieces that I have chosen are the last five piano sonatas from Beethoven s late period. These pieces are reflective of the changes of Beethoven s compositional style as in his older age he began to stretch the limits of the classical style. The piano sonatas are reflective of what he was doing in all of his later works and are sort of condensed versions that still show the same ideas. Because piano sonatas were composed throughout his lifetime, they can be interpreted as a timeline of the changes in Beethoven s style of composing, particularly in the late sonatas. Beethoven had never been a very rapid composer and these five sonatas were the chief output of six years of work in the second to last decade of his life. In fact, he urges the reader to avoid purple under all circumstances . However, I m not trying to call Fussell out as a racist. I want to point out how he details the discrimination the color purple faces, which echoes to the discrimination black people face in the 20th century. As the color purple is the closest representation of Black American s complexion. On the black to white gradient, purple is the color closest to black. If we think of what the transition emerged from the color black conveys, we need to put the color under a social and cultural context. If we see Black Africans as black, White people as white, then purple matches Black Americans in this analogy. Steven Spielberg s movie adaption of The Color Purple uses color to indicate Black Americans historical attempt to make a transition to White people. In the movie, the colors are encoded with deeper meanings. The color white represents the oppression, while black represents the oppressed. The blacker it is, the more oppressed it signifies. The poem narrates a story of a Trojan who visited Italy where he came the Romans ancestor. In the context of the poem, gods have much quoted manipulating; plotting and working against humans they abhor (Virgil Ferry, n.d.). Despite the god s cunning behaviors, their actions end up putting destiny back on its proper course. When she heard rumors that her favorite city Carthage was about to be destroyed by the Trojans, she persuades Aeolus god of the wind to put a storm to destroy Aeneas and his fleet who are on their way to Italy ( The Internet Classics Archive | The Aeneid by Virgil , 2017). Those who want to proceed on to Italy are about to start the journey when Venus, fearing that Juno will again cause trouble, asks the sea god Neptune to give assurance of a safe journey for her son. Neptune does as Venus has requested in exchange for one human life, which turns out to of Aeneas s ship s pilot, Palinurus, who falls overboard but can swim to land, only to be killed by thugs. Fortunately, Neptune god of the sea restrains the storm saving Aeneas and seven of his ships who then take refuge in Libya an African port. I found that scene similar to Homer s Odyssey where Poseidon the sea god sends a storm to destroy Odysseus on his way home because he despised him just like Juno in the Aeneid, another god rescues similar Odysseus. Such scenes demonstrate the life altering effect that the gods have on the humans even though they lack the supreme power to change human fate. Ethical Issues Related To The PCBH Model Reaction Paper #1 300588 Midwestern University, Glendale Reaction Paper #1 Chapter 13 in Behavioral Consultation and Primary Care: A Guide to Integrating Services discusses common ethical concerns that arise within the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model. Robinson and Reiter (2016) illustrate these common concerns through artificial case examples that address issues related to competence, informed consent, and confidentiality. Each of these ethical concerns are found within any field of psychology; however, the paradigm shift that the PCBH model reflects leads to several new questions regarding these issues. Robinson and Reiter (2016) discussed these ethical topics particularly related to the PCBH model. The first case illustrated by Robinson and Reiter (2016) pertains to competence within the PCBH model. As a student at Hampton University I did not fully realize the impact it would have on me, but looking back, it is clear to me that those experiences have shaped who I ve grown into today, and strongly influence to my desire to pursue a career in environmental science education. My first class in Marine and Environmental Science department at Hampton University turned out be different than I expected. Instead of a large lecture hall full of students, I entered a small classroom with approximately 15 students. It was a pleasant surprise to see the small group of students, who shared a cultural resemblance and has similar interests. Up until then, typically when I told someone I wanted to be a marine scientist, the response was oh that nice or so you want to play with fish? • 39. The Monkey s Paw And What Of This Goldfish Would You Wish... The stories, The Monkey s Paw and What, of this Goldfish, Would You Wish, are both based on the idea of what someone would do with three wishes. The Monkey s Paw is a short story based on a family which acquires a monkey s paw that is magical. In the end, it causes many problems for the family. What, of this Goldfish, Would You Wish is a legend about an Israeli boy,Yoni, who is shooting a documentary about what would people wish for if they had a magic goldfish who grants three wishes. One of the interviews goes wrong, and Yoni is killed, but he comes back to life because of a wish granted by a magic goldfish. Although the stories, The Monkey s Paw, by W.W. Jacobs, and What, of this Goldfish, Would You Wish, by Etgar Keret, have different settings and the last wished used are contrasting, the magic talisman grants three wishes in both stories. Jacobs story and Keret s story have very different settings. In Jacobs story, the words without, parlor, and hark are used (Jacobs). The way the Whites are speaking and the words that are used in the story show that they are in an earlier time period. However, in Keret s story, it says, Yonatan had a brilliant idea for a documentary (Keret). A documentary is a movie or television program, and since Yonatan is shooting a documentary, which he needs a video camera for, the story takes place in the modern day world. Another reason the settings of the stories are different is because in Jacobs , Mr. White says, ...of all the beastly, slushy, out of the way places to live in, this is the worst. Pathway s a bog, and the road s a torrent (Jacobs). This statement implies that they live in the countryside. On the other hand, in Keret s story, Yonatan is filming in a sleepy suburb of Tel Aviv (Keret). Tel Aviv is a city in Israel, so the story takes place in the Middle East. The settings of The Monkey s Paw and What, of this Goldfish, Would You Wish are not similar. The last wishes in both stories are used in drastically different ways. • 40. Animal Farm George Orwell Analysis On the surface, George Orwell s novel Animal Farm is about a group of neglected animals that overthrow their owner and take control of their farm. However, under the surface this novel is an allegory detailing the events of the Russian Revolution. Orwell wrote Animal Farm in the response to the corruption happening during the Russian Revolution. This was his first political and artistic purpose. The authors use of anthropomorphism and common diction leads us to believe he intended the novel to be read by the everyday man or lay person. Orwell wrote this as a warning to the readers with its central theme that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts. The author uses a detached 3rd person narrative to describe the events as they unfold in the story. While Orwell uses many stylistic devices in Animal Farm the two that impact the reader the most while developing the message are symbolism and irony.Ultimately, Orwell effectively fuses ( or blends) his political and artistic purpose into a single powerful work of art in his short novel Animal Farm. George Orwell s essay Why I Write is a small bibliography about his experiences with writing and how his writing has changed over time. In this he also includes some of the 4 purposes of writing. Orwell wrote this because he wants to explain the purpose of his writing while also informing them on the other true purposes of why writers write. Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the U.S. Each year more than 480,000 people die because of smoking. This is just one of the many reasons why I believe that cigarette smoking should be banned in public areas. I will argue this point in three ways. • 44. Discussion of Virtue in Meno by Socrates Plato reveals the views of Socrates on the query of whether virtue is knowledge and whether virtue may be taught in a number of dialogues, mainly in Meno. In the dialogue, Socrates creates several differing arguments on virtue, which include the definition of virtue and questions on whether persons can attain it. In addition, Plato demonstrates the means by which virtue can be obtained, as well as ponders on whether persons are born virtuous, whether virtue may be taught or it is an added factor for righteous individuals (Novelguide.com n.pag.). The paper will focus on Socrates query of whether virtue is knowledge as well as highlight whether virtue may be taught. After Meno asks his initial question, that is whether a person can be able to be taught virtue, or a person can gain the same through nature, Socrates assents to continue but argues that a common understanding is required since neither of them could be capable of comprehensively explaining the meaning of virtue. Then Meno was made to consent that if virtue is not knowledge then one cannot be taught virtue. However, if it is knowledge, it can be taught (Holbo and Waring). Socrates asserts that a person can teach something only if he or she is acquainted with what it is that he/she is teaching. A person who does not know how to drive a vehicle himself of herself is unlikely to be capable of teaching another person how to do so. • 45. Destroying The Earth Is Destroying Earth The big question for all of us to answer is Why is deforestation still happening each and every day if is destroying the Earth? . Deforestation tends to only benefit humankind, and seems to forget about the negative consequences to the environment. Instead of thinking about the future and how our actions have consequences, humans seem to only be thinking about their pocketbooks. For example, farming is one of the main reasons for deforestation. Three hundred million farmers use the slash and burn method for agriculture. Farming clears forests using the slash and burn method, which in turn provides a clear plot of land to grow crops for humans. Although it is good to provide food, the slash and burn method is very dangerous (Deforestation Facts and Statistics). The slash and burn method cuts down and burns off trees before the new seeds are sown to clear land to farm. In theory, the slash and burn method is supposed to give communities food and income. However, the negative results include erosion, decreased biodiversity, and nutrient loss. Arguably, the most significant adverse outcome involves the huge net increase in global carbon emissions that results from the slash and burn method. One solution to the slash and burn process involves chopping down selected trees that look weaker and saving the strong trees to produce offspring, which should assist with stabilizing the environment (Sitler, Ryan). Logging is another main cause of deforestation. Logging is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
