Little Red Riding Hood Monologue
We all know the story about Little Red Riding Hood. She went to her grandma s house and got
attacked by the big bad wolf. Now I will tell you what really happened.
It was a nice sunny day in the middle of summer. There was a girl who everyone called Little Red
Riding Hood (because she always wore a red jacket with a red hood and she was small), but her real
name was Elizabeth. Elizabeth the cruel.
She was just getting out of church and walking home, but on her way, a bluebird approached her
and said that her grandma was very ill. The bird told Red that her grandma might die if she did not
have any medicine soon. Little Red immediately sprinted home, grabbed some medicine and a
picnic basket. She tossed in a knife for protection because she ... Show more content on

She said, My, what big feet you have. I tried to talk like grandma, but my gruff voice gave me away.
Little Red Riding Hood knew that it was me. She yelled, Did you eat her? No, no! I cried. She
went to the hospital!
I don t believe you, Little Red screamed as she pulled out her gun.
Just then, fox leaped out of his hiding spot and attacked Red from behind. Fox and I fled the house.
Later that night when grandma got home, she saw that Little Red Riding Hood was hurt. Grandma
took her to the hospital. When Red told them about what had happened, the cops thought the hair
that she had on her jacket was mine. But I was innocent and this story proves it!
Red got grounded for a week. That was her only punishment. As for fox, he lied to the cops and
said it was me who attacked her. A few days later, he got trapped in one of those traps set up by
Red s parents. He s going to be their meal for supper. Serves him right. I never liked that cheating
scumbag in the first place.
As for me, I m still locked up in prison for attempted murder. My, what a big problem I

Smartphone Security Issues Essay
Security Issues in Smartphone Markets Are you buzzing about the new Verizon Blackberry Storm
or the T Mobile G1? They are the new crave and everyone wants one right? What these owners
many not know are the security risks that surround the raving technology. Most of the unawareness
starts at companies and customers not placing more significance on security as smartphones get
smarter. Although a smartphone may not be at greater risk than a PC, some security issues and
risks are still present with PDA s and smartphones. In the United Kingdom, a whooping 800,000
people were the victim of mobile phone theft in 2006. Even though 90 percent of these phones
deactivated within 48 hours, what happened to the other 10% of users that lost data... Show more

With growth in mobile networks full encryption should be implemented on both phone and web
network sectors. VPN s could mitigate the issues surrounding application data integrity. VPN s
use SSL (Secure Socket Layers). A SSL provide security and data integrity for communications
over TCP/IP networks and are used in wide spread use in applications like web browsing,
electronic mail, instant messaging and voice over IP (VoIP). With this connection a user can
ensure that pictures, text messages, emails, and application data going out or coming in is kept
private. Do users think spying on your smartphone is impossible or hard? Of course, spying
through social engineering risk, but what about if users have no idea that they are being

can give up all data that is stored in them. If accessed by the wrong hacker, he or she could install
malware that can store all of user events and upload them onto an Excel sheet. Scary? The same
is true with SMS text messaging. A hacker sends an SMS message to the user. When the message
is opened it installs the spyware onto the smartphone. Now the hacker can read and access all of
the user messages. So far, there is not an anti malware that could scan smartphone devices and alert
users. They only defense is to educate smartphone users and teach best

Semiotic Or Semilogical Theory Of Communication
1.INTRODUCTION
Communication serves a variety of purposes and takes on a variety of forms; and is so much more
than merely a transmission of information. Often communication includes ambiguous forms (which
may be either deliberate or spontaneous). How is one to interpret a speaker s utterances and how
is this interpretation done? The Relevance Theory of Sperber and Wilson (1986) to be explored in
this paper proposes an interpretation of utterances based on a theory in pragmatics about how a
hearer interprets a speaker s utterances.
In the past, two models have been put forward to explain how communication is processed. They
are as follows:

their shared knowledge). There is therefore a certain degree of reliance on the hearer making the
right inferences from what is not explicitly communicated. This may be diagrammatised as follows:
Speaker s thought/intention + context mediated information encoded transmitted decoded + context
mediated information intention/thought understood.
Inference may be understood from the following example: The message Tom has bought the Times
requires contextual knowledge for it to be understood i.e. that the Times is the name of a newspaper
publication. Also, it is to be inferred from the statement that rather than buying the entire press
enterprise, Tom has merely bought one issue, and probably the issue of the day in question.
The Inferential model includes Grice s model of implicature (i.e. what is meant, suggested or hinted
at but not overtly stated). Therefore, in order for communication to be successful, Grice proposed
the Cooperative Principle which includes the maxims of quantity, quality relevance and manner.
The Relevance theory develops the maxim of relevance.
With regards to metaphorical language, there is no sharp dividing line between it and the literal.
The same cognitive processes are involved in understanding all utterances. This distinguishes our
view from the classical (Aristotelian) view of figurative language where figurative utterances

Essay On Service Animals
I have decided that the content of my Position Paper will focus on the issues of struggles of
acceptance and accommodations for service animals when introduced to public society and the
problems that have risen over the past years for disabled handlers. This paper will focus
specifically on an audience targeted towards business owners, legal professionals, civil rights
advocates, and the general Chicagoland area population because it is the region that will be
focused on specifically. As a general starting point in my paper, I will briefly discuss the
Americans with Disabilities Act. In Section 302 1: A(i) of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the

Conflict In Graphic Novel Persepolis
Satrapi s graphic novel, Persepolis, depicts the coming of age story of Marjane and her experiences
before, during, and after the Iranian war. In the course of Marjane s experiences, she frequently
encounters conflict and the hardships that ensue when growing up. Nevertheless, these hardships
are major factors that shape Marjane as a character and establish the context of the novel. Satrapi
uses the graphic novel conventions and literary devices to convey conflicts of Marjane that are
within herself, with man (in the form of her teachers), and with society.
Firstly, pages 70 71 demonstrate Marjane s inner conflict with her emotions, beliefs, and mind
after the loss of her uncle. In order to convey the grief, Marjane feels, Satrapi draws a ... Show more

The women s branch notice Marjane and chastise her for wearing inappropriate clothing.
Through this scene, it reveals the difference of Marjane s opinions against the government s and
the society. In the first panel, the dealers speech bubbles don t have fully closed boundaries. This
indicates that words aren t said at normal output and they are whispering. Since they are
whispering, it signifies that buying tapes need to be kept confidential. Furthermore, in the second
to the third panel, both Marjane and the dealer have serious expressions; panels backgrounds are
black; and both characters turn their heads too quickly observe their surroundings. These actions
suggest the requirement for caution and secrecy, which indicate that severe punishment occurs to
those they catch buying and dealing tapes. Although Satrapi expresses the dangers of these
actions, Marjane takes the risk to buy tapes and oppose the law. This proves her strong
opposition to the government s laws and beliefs. Satrapi also illustrates the women s branch as
tall, wearing all black, and having angry expressions, which express dominance and power over
Marjane. Marjane s mouth is also shaped like squiggles, which express her worry and fear of the
women s branch. By Illustrating the women s branch as someone dominant and fearful, signifies
how hateful these women are and

Example Of Sacrifice Research Paper
Sacrifice
During a time that inner struggle does not outweigh the prospering will for success, sacrifice
breaks through the darkness and allows the light in. Throughout many stages of life each one
encounters some sort of sacrifice despite the outcome. Person against person sacrifice, conflict, is
dehumanizing, and is the burning sensation in relationship to a sunburn in the middle of summer.
Person against society is fighting for what he or she believes in to help better the idea of freedom;
that freedom is different for everyone. Sacrifice is sunlight, which can illuminate or scorch based
upon the individual s perspective.
Sacrifice does not always have to be about war, but that does not mean it never is. The battles
that are worldwide are proof that sacrifice takes place every second that a bullet is pierced
through a young man s heart in a search for a better freedom. Each day two American soldiers lose
their lives in the fight for freedom. Soldiers are not only on the ... Show more content on

Sunlight allows heat into cold place and flowers of all colors to growth. Although flowers are
remarkably beautiful, and colorful, they are ripped out of the soil to be given to whom is
important. Beautiful things are given up for other beautiful things in order to appreciate the things
close to each other. Flowers, like many things, need light to grow.
Sacrifice is the fire that lights the darkness, and is the heat that allows flowers to blossom in the
middle of winter. Without darkness, the sunlight that illuminated the success of others would mean
nothing. Sacrifice allowing greater success. Lifting weights off shoulders creates strength to move
forward in a difficult situation and gives each individual a peace of mind that the future can be

Othello By William Shakespeare s Othello
Shakespeare s Othello peels back the layers of society s underlying feelings regarding people
who lie outside of the perceived standard norm. It digs into the heart of society and reveals the
damage that is placed upon individuals who are considered outsiders, even if they manage to
achieve success. In this particular play, the audience is able to see how the subtleties of racial bias
slowly destroy a person s psyche. Throughout the play, the audience examines Othellocast in both
negative and positive positions. Othello is both a great general of the Venetian army as well as, just
the moor who used magic to trick his wife, Desdemona, into a marriage. Through harmful racial
language Othello is constantly reminded of his outsider status. The destruction of his character
through blatant and subtle criticisms cause Othello to doubt his self worth and ultimately leads to
his self destruction.
Racial otherness and the inconspicuous barrier it creates in this play is the key to understanding
the tragedy of Othello. Iago and Roderigo open the play with slanderous statements about the
character and personality of Othello that allows the audience to view how society perceives
Othello. The language Roderigo and Iago use is openly offensive and can t be mistaken for
anything other than hate based on Othello s race. Roderigo refers to Othello as the thick lips as
well as a lascivious Moor , during the opening of the play. Both Iago and Roderigo are disgusted
with the high rank

Essay On The San Francisco Earthquake
The San Francisco Earthquake The San Francisco Earthquake written by Jack London is journal of
his events throughout the devastating acts of God that hit San Francisco in 1906. (461 466)
The Earthquake shook buildings and walls to the ground. But, what came after the quake was much
more devastating. Fires broke out in every direction and this thriving city became mostly ashes.
People became curious and gracious in this time of turmoil and that has never before been seen in
San Francisco. When all hope was lost the firefighters made a great stand putting out the fire and
ending the turmoil.
The way that London wrote how his life was in the middle of the San Francisco Earthquake
written very well for his audience to follow along and know what is going on, he also used great
detail to explain where he was to make the audience feel like they were there, but todays audience
would not have viewed the his writings as they would in his time. ... Show more content on

London says: At nine o clock Wednesday evening I walked down through the very heart of the
city. (463) by saying this it places the audience right there with him walking through the heart of
San Francisco. He then states his experience walking through Union Square saying: At eight o
clock Wednesday evening I passed through Union Square. It was packed with refugees.
Thousands of them had gone to bed on the grass. (464) this brings his audience to Union Square
where they will see thousands of people laying in the grass. He also says: On Mission Street lay
a dozen steers, in a neat row stretching across the street, just as they had been struck down by the
flying ruins of the earthquake. (465) these words to me are so powerful and much more effective
than putting a twist to the story. This is one of the most effective writing genera for me because it

My Mother Was A Military Brat
My grandmother once said, or at least I am told she once said, that she was concerned that my
father should not marry my mother because she had no roots. My mother was a military brat.
The longest she s ever lived anywhere is seven years. She makes no bones about the fact that she
doesn t know where she s from. Like the planes my grandfather worked on, my mother was a
child of the wind, going here and there, and wherever destiny took her. I suppose my grandmother
would say the same thing about me. I am a missionary s child, taken wherever the call of God took
my family. I didn t grow up in just one place, therefore I have no roots. It s a very Southern

I am like a bird. My roots are confined to one area. My egg hatched in Auburn, and since then I
have collected roots Auburn, Roanoke, Quito,Temuco, Santiago, Cullman, Florence, and Killen,
and have woven them all into a nest that is currently nestled in the branches of Killen. My roost
don t trap me in one spot. I am free to fly wherever without hesitation, and if I so desire, bring back
some leaves, or branches, or even more roots from the places I visit.
At some point I m sure a storm of life, or an unexpected gust of wind will blow me out of Killen s
tree. So I ll glide where the wind takes me, and rebuild my nest in a new tree with new roots.
I m sure my grandmother thinks her little bird is an unstable wreck, and in some ways I am. My
ADHD and scattered brains have turned me into quite the character. The payoff is worth it though.
Why watch the seasons slip by the same old burrow when you can soar to the heavens and gaze
upon the whole world?
I ll always have my nest to come back to, and with each blustery, windy trip to a new tree, my nest
of roots grows bigger and grander.

An Essay On The Character Of Irene Redfield
Irene Redfield is a morally reprehensible woman with an ironic twinge to her character. While
claiming she is proud of who she is and her race she simultaneously hides who she is for
convenience. She looks down on those who do the same for the sake of being able to live without
persecution.
Irene hides her race by passing in ways that seem at first benign such as sitting in a white upper
class restaurant The Drayton (Larsen, 13). As she sits, not at all uncomfortable in her
surroundings, she slowly becomes transfixed with a beauty in the room who draws the attention
of everyone around her. This was Clare Kendry, a foil to Irene s careful management of her life.
What the introduction of Clare and her manner of passing bring to light is that Irene passes not
just for convenience but also for the power of the act. By being someone of color in a place that
looks down on it, she feels in control. Clare Kendry is the complete opposite of this philosophy of
calculated risk, flaunting herself at anyone who passes by.

Irene is in an all but loveless marriage with a husband who seems to be asexual at best and
apathetic at worst. Her judgement is clouded by her own blind envy of the supposed life of
Clare Kendry. Irene convinces herself after being absorbed into the whirlwind of Clare Kendy s
life that she is inferior to the white black girl. She then convinces herself that her husband is
having an affair with Clare, and that everyone knows about it so she must pretend not to know.
This is all the culmination on a psychotic break that Irene has that ends with the unclear death of
Mrs.Kendry (Larsen,113 114). Irene can be safely assumed to have pushed Clare out of the
window due to a bizarre coloration envy that developed from Irene, the woman who passed as a
form of getting a control high, and Clare, the girl who passed as a form of escapism and

Budget Deficit Analysis
Across the United States, public schools are experiencing major budget deficits. These deficits
lead to a debate over what program or sometimes multiple programs will be cut from schools in
certain areas. Fine Arts programs are often the first considered and ultimately cut from schools.
More specifically theatre and dance are among the most targeted in artsprograms. The National
Center for EducationStatistics reported, In the 2009 10 school year, 3 percent of elementary
schools offered instruction that was designated specifically for dance during regular school hours.
This percentage represents a decrease from 1999 2000, when 20 percent of the schools reported
instruction that was designed specifically for dance (Parsad 40). However,... Show more content on

Students face high amounts of stress on a daily basis making the main benefit of dance education
stress relief. When an individual dances the body releases the neurotransmitter, endorphins, which
serve as the body s natural painkiller to reduce stress. (Dancing to Relieve Stress par. 3). Another
emotional benefit to dance education is the ability for students to express themselves. A journal
titled, Creativity, Self Expression, and Dance by Peter J. Arnold goes into detail about the
connections between dance, creativity, and self expression. Arnold claims, Self expression in its
naturalistic state is perhaps best characterized as a form of emotional discharge which results from
an unreflective reaction to a situation or event (53). He then explains, It is sometimes said, for
example, that activities like creative writing, singing, music, painting, pottery, carving, drawing,
instrumental music, drama, and dance help the child or adolescent to act out or aggressive
tendencies, conflicts, and tensions (Arnold 53). These activities may not be available for all
students when outside of the school setting, thus removing them from schools would leave students

Situs Inversus
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention there are approximately three million
babies born in the United States each year (Martin et al.). While there is always risk that a baby
could have any number of health conditions, one rarely occurring condition is situs inversus. Situs
refers to the position of an organ, with situs solitus being the ordinary arrangement of organs
(Dictionary). Situs inversus is when the organs in the chest and abdomen are mirrored, or opposite,
of where their ordinary location should be. This is a unique genetic condition that affects 1 in
10,000 babies born each year ( 15 Incredible Situs Inversus Statistics ). While situs inversus is the
general term used, there are three subtypes of the condition that can occur: dextrocardia, levocardia
and ambiguous. The two main subtypes of situs inversus are dextrocardia and levocardia, with the
third subtype being situs ambiguous. The differences between the two main subtypes are based on
the position of the heart. If the heart is still on the left side yet the rest of the organs are flipped, it
is considered situs inversus with levocardia. However, if the heart is on the right side instead of
the left, along with the rest of the organs being flipped, it is considered situs inversus with
dextrocardia, also known as situs inversus totalis, or a true mirror image . Of the two, levocardia
is the most rare, with an occurrence rate of only 1 in 22,000 births ( 15 Incredible

Crime Rates, Trends, And Variations
Introduction
Every day we tend to hear that the crime rate is up, or that it seem like crime is taking over
America, but is that really true? What do we really know about the crime rate? And what do we
understand about violent crime rates, trends, and variations? We will discuss these issues to gain a
better understanding about the UCR system.
FBI UCR for Georgia
When I checked my state, which is GA and compared what I have been told by some of my
associates from the Augusta, Georgia Richmond Country Sheriff department it was what I
expected, which was that crime rates were going down. So, there were no surprise there at all.
It showed me that between, 2012 2013 that we had some decrease in violent crimes, for instance,
in 2012 based on the population of 9,915,646 we had a total 37,675 violent crimes, and in 2013
based on the population of 9,992,167 there were only a total of 35,943 violent crimes ( Crime in
the , 2013). So there was a 4.6 percent change in violent crimes within those two years, and within
the violent crime rate per 100,000: was 380.0 for 2012, and in 2013 was 357.9 that there was an
overall percent change of 5.3 ( Crime in the , 2013). Why has it dropped? Well most LEOs believe
that it has dropped because of proactive arrests, faster responses to 911 calls, higher number of
LEOs on the streets, community policing, and more random patrols.
Thereby all of these reasons could help crime rates go down, but one can never tell with criminals.
But, for

How Did The Golden Age Of Hip Hop Affect African American...
The Golden Age Of Hip Hop The 80s was considered The Golden Age Of Hip Hop because of its

which is the maximum heat, is the cause of all hot things. there is something which is truest,
something best, something noblest and, consequently, something which is uttermost being. This

Nihilism According To Nietzsche
The nihilism analysis has been prevalent position over the past few years. Its anticipated purpose is
to demand questions about the norms made in a philosophical debate. These contain the notion that
one must actually suggest and preserve an idea in order to contextualize one s idea.
Tacitly, this philosophy, nihilism, seems new to most people and to philosophy as a whole.
Especially from a Western standpoint. But Nietzsche conducts an unapologetic attack on what
society has deemed as conformist morality. And at the end of the 19th Century (when he died) this
could have struck many as more progressive rather than conservative. Many during that time,
however, saw it as pure sacrilege. The entrenched on both sides have made it difficult... Show more

outdated. But really, there is an underlayment here. The underlying idea that it is not just God (this
supernatural icon in the sky) that is dead, but rather the idea that many of the absolutes that we
discussed previously have died. One specifically being morality. These outmoded morals cannot
direct the humans in a more intricate world/society. There are many discussions that have been
had about this phrase and what it could mean, but the most significant is that the value itself is
prospectively weak. Humans have transformed into this complicated being, and constrained by
this badness of morals. There is one woman who would argue in a Newsweek article that

of God that ...Nietzsche was right to say that human beings killed God. Even fundamentalists
(whose faith is essentially modern and innovative) bear to the fact that men and women can no
longer be religious in the same way as their ancestors. In the postmodern world, it was generally
understood that while reason was indispensable for mathematics, science, or politics. It could, not
by itself give human beings access to the divine. But the extraordinary success of scientific
rationalism in the modern world has made reason the only path to truth. We assume that God is an
objective fact, like the atom, whose existence can be proved empirically. When we find the
demonstration unconvincing, we lose faith. Our neglect of the esthetic of prayer, liturgy, and
mythology has indeed killed our sense of the divine. 1 Nietzsche labels this as a bit of

Analysis Of Girl In A Country Song
Girl In A Country Song provides an alternative equipment for living through the rules of how
women and men should behave. Throughout the introduction of the video, the women are
portrayed as weak and dressing in a way to only attract the male eye. This is seen through the way
that the women desire the men s attention and acceptance, which goes along with the societal norm
of women being less than men. However, towards the end of the video, women are portrayed in a
more dominant role. Teaching women viewers that they aren t less worthy than the men, and that
they should speak up against sexism is crucial. To summarize, the text teaches us that it is
inappropriate to view girls as anything less than exceptional, which challenges American hegemony
and ideology. An array of logos is demonstrated through the use of a logical organization and style
throughout, that emphasizes the lyrics and scenes. Organization makes sense for how Maddie and
Tae want the sequence of the events to be shown. The master plot for the music videois
transformation; the girls are going through an emotional change of realization that they aren t less
worthy than boys. A linear storytelling method allows the video to start off with what is seen in
reality and moves on to show how ridiculous it looks, which enhances the storyline. Flashes
between the scenes create a logical view of what is depicted and what is mockery. The first line in
the video, No country musicwas harmed in the making of this

Individual Privacy vs. National Security
Individual Privacy vs. National Security
Individual Privacy vs. National Security is something that many people have argued for years.
Many people have forgotten what a disturbance September 11, 2001 was to everyone in America.
This was the day that 2,992 lives were stolen in the attacks by the Taliban on U.S. soil. Due to this
attack the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) along with the Federal Government has
put in place many new security regulations. Many people have lost touch with why these
regulations were put in place. As well, many people have lost touch with why TSA is using full
body scanners and other security devices. On September 11, 2001 19 members of a global

The device carried by Abdulmutallab was not detectable by any device in wide spread use at the
time, other than a dog trained to detect bombs with its sense of smell. As a result, advanced
imaging technology (AIT) machinery, also known as full body scanners, were deployed more
widely across America. Even though these full body scanners were recognized by security experts
as being better and more effective at detecting prohibited items than the ordinary metal detectors
that had been in use for decades passengers objected to the new scanners, because they are able to
take images through the subject s clothing, and their alternative, a physical pat down inspection by
a TSA security officer similar to what police officers use to search subjects when they are taken into
custody. Critics claim AIT scanner images and pat downs violate the Fourth Amendment to the U.S.
Constitution, which guarantees the right of citizens to be protected from unreasonable searches,
but those same critics have not offered viable alternatives that would safeguard the traveling public
from attacks like those of Abdulmutallab. In other words, some activists became more focused on
safeguarding their personal privacy and rights at the risk of their personal safety.

Rene Descartes Meditations
1. About Rene Descartes Meditations:
a) What is the function of the doubt in Descartes Meditations? What are the different stages of
doubt in the Meditations? What does Descartes find to be ultimately indubitable to constitute the
foundation of his new philosophy?
Descartes function of doubt in Meditations is basically to overthrow skepticism on its own
ground, to begin by doubting everything you know and everything you think you know. The
first stage of doubt is the argument of physical misconception, our senses betray us some of the
time but possible that it betrays us all of the time. The second stage is knowing if one is
dreaming or not, some dreams are so real that its hard to tell if they are indeed real and anything
that you see while you are awake can be a dream. The third stage is the evil demon, believing that
an evil demon who is powerful enough to deceive you and who is as strong as god but isn t good.

What is Descartes rationale? Is Descartes rationale logical?
No, there is and can be no such thing as evidence of the existence of god. God is not something
anyone can attest or validate, with that being said he is something one can chose to believe in or
not. We imperfect and finite beings visualize the opportunity to be perfect. Descartes wants to
prove the idea of god in his mind as an innate idea and ends up proving it using the ontological
argument. I don t believe it s logical; Descartes finishes with the idea that one must require truth in
their cause as in their effect.

Gothic Literature.
Nov. 11, 2013.
Comparison on both novels:
The Castle of Otranto Northanger Abbey The Castle of Otranto was written in 1764, by Horace
Walpole. This novel is a Gothic novel, and I will be writing an essay about this novel to show,
and explain how Gothic it is. I will be picking a specific character to explain and compare to
another book to show how both are Gothic, but in their own way. This essay will seek and unfold
the differences of Manfred in Otranto, and General Tilney in Northanger Abbeyby Jane Austen.

In this novel Otranto , Manfred has a son that gets killed and no one knows how or why. His son
is to be married to Isabella, but things go a different direction when she finds out that Manfred
wants to marry her now. When Manfred pursues Isabella in a sexually way, his demand for a
divorce from his wife Hippolita seems unreal, due to the incestuous nature of both relationships.
Manfred s logic seems to be lost and his justification, and his reasoning for his actions makes
very little sense. What makes this Gothic is, this is a dark way of living, and how evil it is to
live this way. From the novel Northanger Abbey , General Tilney is accurately, if
understandingly, described by Mrs. Morland as a strange man (Austen 29). In this story there is
a character named Catherine Morland who is a tom boy, that is a girl that is becoming a
woman. As she is becoming a woman, she is pulled between both boys and playing sports, like
Cricket. Her mother and father send her off to an upper class resort to meet young men. There
she encounters a man named Henry and she falls in love with him. General Tilney is a man who
runs a very strict household, despite his actions to appear laid back to Catherine. General Tilney
is a stickler for people being on time. He is always getting angry at people for disrupting his
schedule or his sense of integrity and discipline. General Tilney is a jerk to his kids, and is known

A STI (sexually transmitted infection) refers to more than 25 infectious organisms passed from

history, from venereal diseases to sexually transmitted diseases to sexually transmitted infections.
STI is supposedly a less judgmental than previous terms. Sexually transmitted infections do not
have an agenda of a certain race, ethnicity, or gender to affect. Some STI s can be cured and
some require a lifetime of treatment. I do not think anyone is invincible to STI s. I do not think

The example given, it feels better without a condom, is a sad excuse to have unprotected sex.
This excuse can be used by a man or woman and pressure their partner into participating in a high

consequences of having unprotected sex. In the moment, I realize it is hard to weigh the
rewards versus risks of unsafe sex, but if the risks are taught early on, maybe the decision to
have safe sex would not take any thought. We live in a society where instant gratification is
available in almost everything we do, so why would that not apply to one s sex life. The use of a
condom or protection seems so small in the scheme of things to some people, surely the rewards
would outweigh the risks. This is where sex education should play a role. As a society the
emphasis on sex education is small. In the sex education one does receive, a visual of how many
risks accompany having unsafe sex and the possible infections one could contract could persuade
one not to take part in those

Germany also had to accept blame for starting the war and pay for all the damage of the war. This
was in the amount of ВЈ 6,600 million. I do not feel that this ultimately reinforced the conditions
from before the war. Before the war, Germany was strong and wanted to be stronger. After the
treaty, they were left in a position that they would not recover from. WWII consisted of many
events that increased tensions between the East and the West. The two main countries were the
United States and the Soviet Union. The allies (the western powers) and the Soviet Union had
an alliance during the second war. When the war ended the alliance began to get frayed at the
edges. At the end of the war most of Europe was occupied by four countries. The United States
and the Soviet Union had the most powerful military forces. The Cold War got its name because
neither the United States nor the Soviet Union wanted to openly fight each other and they were
afraid of each other s power. Communism came to the Soviet Union in 1918. The United States

Social Class And India s Social System
Social class is a division of a society based on ones social and economic status. There are those of

their life in many ways they may, or may not notice. In different places, there are many varieties of

Second off is karma, karma is the belief that a person experiences the effects of his/her actions.
This is closely like the saying What goes around, comes around. which is how karma works. If
one does not want to upset karmic balance, they will have to live a moral life, and have to fulfill
their dharma.
The third term one must know, is samsara, which is know to some as reincarnation. Reincarnation,
or samsara, plays a big role in how the caste system has people placed in each rank, as explained
earlier. Samsara explains the cycle of life, death, and rebirth, in which karma can/will take effect.
Each time someone is reborn with a new life, they have an opportunity to achieve balance. Once
balanced is achieved, through good thoughts, and actions, they are free from the life cycle.
The fourth term, and stage in the cycle, is moksha. Moksha is a state of liberation from the cycle
of rebirth urged by the law of karma. To reach moksha, one must live a life of devotion with strong
moral principles, and no to little interest in material things. This is believed to take a great number
of rebirths to achieve. To achieve moksha, is to be reunited with God, and to be free from rebirth.
All these terms, dharma, karma, samsara, and moksha, are important to know to have greater
insight into the Hindu religion, which the caste system has basis in.
In Hinduism, another vital concept to understand

Notes On Productivity And Performance Management
Introduction
In Unit 3 you will review Chapter 6 Productivity and Performance Management, and Chapter 7
Operational Metrics in health Care. Productivity and performance management is important for
healthcare managers as this will ensure the healthcare organization or department is more cost
effective and efficient over time. This is done by reducing costs, eliminating waste, and ensuring
efficiency in use of resources. The main focus of productivity management is the ratio of outputs to
inputs. The single and multifactor productivity ratios can be calculated to understand the
relationship between outputs and inputs. Labor staffing models should be used to align volume or
demand with resources. Internal consistent measuring and applying them over the long term will
show how a manager added value and a positive effect on the business operations. Operations
metrics is very useful from a production perspective in that you can monitor units per input per
units of output. From the clinical perspective care managers can quickly access clinical performance
against industry benchmark or an internal baseline value. In order to get a better understanding, let
s discuss metric driven performance improvement and databases that supports it.
Using Metrics for Performance Improvement
Surviving in the healthcare industry is no easy task. Part of staying afloat is improving
performance continually. To do so there needs to be a measurable goal, a timeline to achieve it, and

Use of Violence in Beloved by Toni Morrison Essay
As much as society does not want to admit, violence serves as a form of entertainment. In media
today, violence typically has no meaning. Literature, movies, and music, saturated with violence,
enter the homes of millions everyday. On the other hand, in Beloved, a novel by Toni Morrison,
violence contributes greatly to the overall work. The story takes place during the age of the
enslavement of African Americans for rural labor in plantations. Sethe, the proud and noble
protagonist, has suffered a great deal at the hand of schoolteacher. The unfortunate and seemingly
inevitable events that occur in her life, fraught with violence and heartache, tug at the reader s heart

One may argue that she does not display much emotion while killing her children, she
unquestionably resembles a lunatic. Without this vital scene, Beloved would lack the utterly
shocking element that such violence provides. People want to immerse themselves into stories
about lunatics, emerge in the drama, and sympathize with the dire pain Sethe feels. Violent scenes,
among other elements, allow for this to occur in a novel.
Destruction of identity, another theme of the novel, relates to the violent scenes. In the second
part of Beloved, Sethe takes a stand and expresses her feeling on the violent acts being
performed on her. Nobody will ever get my milk no more except my own children. I never had
to give it to nobody else and the one time I did it was took from me they held me down and took
it. Milk that belonged to my baby (Morrison 200). Sethe finally comes to terms with her past and
vows to never let such a horrendous act happen to her again. Beloved s reincarnation occurs
because Sethe needs to face her dark past head on and free herself from living in shame. It took
time, but, Sethe eventually overcomes the odds and begins to live freely and peacefully in her house.
Morrison bases Sethe s character off of real life murderer, Margaret Garner. Morrison leaves few of
the important elements of the story the same and alters others. Why did Morrison go through the
trouble of writing Beloved? She did not write it for

Human Resource Management And How Does It Affect An...
One would ask the question, What is Human Resource Management and how does it affect an
organization? According to Management Study Guide (n.d.), human resource management is the
practice of managing individuals in an organization through an organized and systematic method.
Human resource management affects an organization by executing the procedures and policies and
warranting that the complaints of employees are taken care of. Given the different roles taken on
by the human resource management, it is vital to the attainment of an organization. Today, we will
be looking at three different ways in which human resource managementaffects an organization.
One, look at how human resource management influence an organizational performance. Next, I
will be sharing information on organizational culture, and then the practices of human resource
management in an organization. First, taking a look at how HRM influences organizational
performances. According to authors Phillips, J and Gully, S., human resource management policies
and practices add value to organization and influences organizational performances by either
improving efficiencies or contributing to revenue growth. This is to say that the effectiveness of
human resource management in an organization has the ability to bring about change, meet the
organizations goals, and be able to expand workers commitment, energy and accomplishments.
Another way HRM can influence an organization is through its talent philosophy.

Comparing Frankenstein And The Groomsmen
Frankenstein has many themes interpreted in different ways by each scholar, but Mary Shelley s
life in general seems to have influenced scholars the most. The scholars covered ideas that related
to Mary Shelley s marriage to Percy Shelley, how Mary Shelley expressed her own life in her
novel Frankenstein , and the emotional trauma Mary Shelley felt growing up without a natural
mother. Mary Lowe Evans brings attention to the fact that Mary Shelley s marriage to Percy was
crucial in her writing of Frankenstein. Mary Lowe Evans points out the many similarities between
Percy Shelley and Victor Frankenstein in The Groomsmen . Mary Shelley used Percy Shelly s
profile as a way to give life to Victor Frankenstein and keep his character believable and connected
to the reader. Matthew C. Brennan compares Mary Shelley s life... Show more content on

Brennan explains how Mary Shelley has several characters (Victor, the monster, and Walton)
dealing with the loss dealing with the loss of their mother. My Monster / My Self, written by
Barbara Johnson tells how Frankenstein is more than a story, it is an autobiography of Mary
Shelley s life. In this essay Barbara Johnson explains how Mary Shelly was capable of telling her
story through male characters in a time when her own personal autobiography would have been
highly unacceptable. Laura P. Claridge s essay Parent Child Tensions in Frankenstein attempts to
convince readers that certain characters (Victor, the monster, and Walton) are examples of what
happens to children who are not parented correctly. Most of the scholars could agree in one form
or another that Mary Shelley s life events had a huge impact on her novel Frankenstein . The
scholars agreed that either her marriage, childhood, or emotions were present in her novel in some
form or another. The essays chosen all related to the inner emotions felt by Mary Shelley or her
actual life experiences, whether it was during her childhood, her marriage, or her adult

Shared Vision And Components Of Community Policing
A shared vision is considered a partnership between individuals or groups who seek to accomplish a
common goal. It involves commitment and contributions from each group. Many shared visions are
created to change a relational divide that sometimes occurs between groups and communities. For
example, an us vs them type of environment will certainly divide groups and communities and
cause havoc. There is no sense of trust or unity between the two and therefore, a shared vision is
necessary to accomplish the developing of mutual trust and unity. In this essay, I will further
discuss a shared vision and its components that refer to community policing.
The term community policing establishes the recognition that law enforcement agencies have about
needing the community to help them fight crime. The sole purpose of law enforcement is to serve
and protect their communities but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Situations like these do not give communities the necessary opportunities to know their officers and
therefore the trust and unity breaks down. It is crucial for officers to remain constant in their
communities as much as possible and to slowly transition to other assignments when necessary.
Once trust and unity is in place, a shared vision of crime control and serving the public can take
place. Law enforcement and communities can unite to form a better living environment for all.
That is a shared vision that anyone would want to have and do whatever it takes to work towards.
In conclusion, a shared vision is necessary to change an unwanted negative atmosphere between
two groups or communities. Law enforcement agencies and communities would all benefit from
coming together with trust and unity. It will take a lot of work and dedication from both sides but
it is one that if achieved will bring peace and harmony. More importantly, it will greatly reduce
crime and unwanted living

Comparing Of Mice And Men And What s Eating Gilbert Grape
What s Eating Gilbert Grape Dir. Lasse Hallstrom and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck are
two very similar pieces of storytelling about caring for the misfortunate. In Of Mice and Men
George cares for his mentally challenged friend Lennie, and in, What s Eating Gilbert Grape,
Gilbert takes care of his mentally disabled brother Arnie. Both George and Gilbert care more for
the well being and defence of their loved one, than they do for their own well being in most
cases. In the end of What s Eating Gilbert Grape, Gilbert s mother dies; in a dramatic and
tangible gesture to rid himself of his past, Gilbert burns their house down. In a symbolic similarity,
at the end of Of Mice and Men George kills Lennie in an effort to release him of... Show more

George kills Lennie not because he doesn t like Lennie but because he s tired of dealing with
him, and he wants to be able to start over and have a good life, and he knows he can t if Lennie
is around. George is always saying how he wants him and Lennie to live on a farm but is always
doubting if Lennie can stay on track, and he is always wondering if Lennie is gonna mess up
their chances. Comparably Gilbert s decision to burn down his house is his way of proclaiming
his starting over, and symbolically saying that nothing good ever came of that house and that
nothing ever would. Gilbert is talking to Becky and is saying how much he hates living in his
house and that he hates how lazy and fat his mom is. This is more obvious for Gilbert because
throughout the whole movie he is completely selfless and only cares about taking care of his
family. Both of their decisions were very important to show that they were finally taking control of
their lives, and that they decided to finally do something for themselves. Unfortunately in order to
do this both characters looked to destructive and violent ways of freeing themselves. Perhaps these
burdens were so great that they had to take destructive measures to alleviate themselves from them,
or perhaps they simply never learned another away and had to take extreme measure to enact any

The Human Body In Greek Art
Almost seven feet tall, a life like sculpture stands, broad and muscular, in the middle of the
National Archeological Museum, Naples, Italy. Made of bronze yet so full of life, the Spear
Bearer is one of many ancient Greek sculptures surviving, as good as new, till this day. On the
other side of the world stands the New York Kouros at the Metropolitan Museum, rigid and
awkward, and all together unrealistic. However, Greek art, especially Greek sculptureand vase
painting has not always portrayed the human body in such a perfect and idealistic way. Up until
500 BCE, Greek sculpture and statuary specifically were completely different to what is seen and
defined as Greek sculpture today while Greek vase painting and other representations of the human
body maintained their less realistic style. The Greeksnot only developed but also improved their
artwork of the human figure throughout Early Greece only to present a better and more idealistic
image of sculpture using naturalism and realism towards the Classical period.... Show more content

Egyptian art and were influenced to adopt their styles and techniques into their own artwork; small
details in Egyptian statuary and paintings were incorporated into Greek sculptures and vase
paintings (Archaic Greek Art). Similarities, for starters, can be seen in the materials, medium and

Ancient Egyptian art is five thousand years old. It emerged and took shape in the ancient Egypt, the
civilization of the Nile Valley. Ancient Egyptian art was shown with emotion beautifully in painting
and sculpture, and was both highly symbolic and stylized. The exceptional traditions in Egypt is one
of the most important things in the history of art. The tombs and temples of the Egyptians have
expressed the grandeur of the kingdom of the Nile. Egyptian sculptors and painters began to
formulate patterns to represent figures and stories. Egyptians used the art to represent a
continuation of life after death, it was an important part of their culture. They believed that, in
order for the spirit to live on, the dead person s body had to be preserved, or mummified, and
buried along with supplies of food and drink, tools and utensils, valued possessions. (Scholastic)

Deforestation In Japanese Essay
Japan as a whole is a disaster prone country, mostly due to its position on the Pacific Rim fault
line, but also because of climatic and seismic factors. However, for the purpose of this assignment

Yokohama Metropolitan Area is 16,889,000 so roughly 17,000,000 people are living in 1,013

Tokyo is on the ocean side of the island, making the city incredibly susceptible. Typhoons can
cause flooding and landslides, which can be extremely dangerous to people and cause destruction
such as collapsed buildings and fallen trees. The volcanoes belong to the Pacific Ring of Fire,
caused by subduction zones of the Pacific plate beneath continental and other oceanic plates along
its margins. Japan lies in a zone of extreme crustal instability. Mount Fuji poses the biggest threat
the Tokyo. Located only 60 miles from Tokyo, this stratovolcano is very much active and could
cause mass hysteria for many people when it next erupts. A volcanic eruption can pour ash and lava
all over the city. Over the years, Japan has taken lots of steps to lighten the damage future
earthquakes could inflict. Scientists are studying ways to predict the occurrence of quakes more
accurately. Authorities have put strict laws on the construction buildings so they are more resistant
to quakes. Many local governments have adopted an earthquake prevention plan that outlines the
steps that should be taken in case a major earthquake strikes, including the regulation of traffic,
closing of banks and department stores, and evacuation of residents. The Tokyo metropolitan
government conducts periodic checks on the safety of buildings in designated danger zones. At
schools and workplaces, evacuation drills are held several times a year.

Analysis Of Mrs. Richard Skinner
John Singleton Copley s a Bostonian Anglo American Painter who lived in the late 1700s to early

painting is noted in being a woman named Dorothy Wendell (Dorothy Quincy). Dorothy Wendell
came from a reputable family Quincy family and was wed to John Hancock, a well known political
figure. Copley is trying to convey the struggles of women during the eighteenth century and the
yearn for equal rights which are reflected on the subject Mrs. Richard Skinner. This is shown
through the way Copley expresses and emphasizes Mrs. Richard Skinner femininity. This painting

Mrs. Richard Skinner s dress is very form fitting and looks quite confining, this is how most
women dressed at this time. This is symbolic of the confining lifestyle that Mrs. Richard Skinner
and many other women of this era lived. Copley was notorious for illustrating wealth through
clothing pieces and fabrics. It is evident that Mrs. Richard Skinner is dressed in a lavish gown
which demonstrates that the subject is indeed wealthy. This technique allows anyone looking at
this painting to pick up on this queue, even without knowing the subject s true identity. The
background of the painting is very dark and a reflective of the dark times some women were in
during this time. The dark background and the subject s serious persona give the painting a
mysterious sensation. Mrs. Richard Skinner s clothing pieces are very light colors which give a
light hearted ambiance to the painting but the dark background, dim lighting, and the dark table
that lay before her completely alter the mood of the painting. The lighting of the painting,
therefore, emphasizes Mrs. Richard Skinner even more due to her dark surroundings, which is
another example of Copley s attempt at accentuating her womanhood. Some of the props in this
painting elaborate and stress her sexuality even further. The subject is holding a flower in the
painting; flowers are symbolic of purity and femininity. The way the subject is holding the flowers
is to be noted as well. She is holding

  • 2. Little Red Riding Hood Monologue We all know the story about Little Red Riding Hood. She went to her grandma s house and got attacked by the big bad wolf. Now I will tell you what really happened. It was a nice sunny day in the middle of summer. There was a girl who everyone called Little Red Riding Hood (because she always wore a red jacket with a red hood and she was small), but her real name was Elizabeth. Elizabeth the cruel. She was just getting out of church and walking home, but on her way, a bluebird approached her and said that her grandma was very ill. The bird told Red that her grandma might die if she did not have any medicine soon. Little Red immediately sprinted home, grabbed some medicine and a picnic basket. She tossed in a knife for protection because she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She said, My, what big feet you have. I tried to talk like grandma, but my gruff voice gave me away. Little Red Riding Hood knew that it was me. She yelled, Did you eat her? No, no! I cried. She went to the hospital! I don t believe you, Little Red screamed as she pulled out her gun. Just then, fox leaped out of his hiding spot and attacked Red from behind. Fox and I fled the house. Later that night when grandma got home, she saw that Little Red Riding Hood was hurt. Grandma took her to the hospital. When Red told them about what had happened, the cops thought the hair that she had on her jacket was mine. But I was innocent and this story proves it! Red got grounded for a week. That was her only punishment. As for fox, he lied to the cops and said it was me who attacked her. A few days later, he got trapped in one of those traps set up by Red s parents. He s going to be their meal for supper. Serves him right. I never liked that cheating scumbag in the first place. They are the new crave and everyone wants one right? What these owners many not know are the security risks that surround the raving technology. Most of the unawareness starts at companies and customers not placing more significance on security as smartphones get smarter. Although a smartphone may not be at greater risk than a PC, some security issues and risks are still present with PDA s and smartphones. In the United Kingdom, a whooping 800,000 people were the victim of mobile phone theft in 2006. Even though 90 percent of these phones deactivated within 48 hours, what happened to the other 10% of users that lost data... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With growth in mobile networks full encryption should be implemented on both phone and web network sectors. VPN s could mitigate the issues surrounding application data integrity. VPN s use SSL (Secure Socket Layers). A SSL provide security and data integrity for communications over TCP/IP networks and are used in wide spread use in applications like web browsing, electronic mail, instant messaging and voice over IP (VoIP). With this connection a user can ensure that pictures, text messages, emails, and application data going out or coming in is kept private. Do users think spying on your smartphone is impossible or hard? Of course, spying through social engineering risk, but what about if users have no idea that they are being watched? When connected to a PC, smartphones no authentication. They are USB devices that can give up all data that is stored in them. If accessed by the wrong hacker, he or she could install malware that can store all of user events and upload them onto an Excel sheet. Scary? The same is true with SMS text messaging. A hacker sends an SMS message to the user. When the message is opened it installs the spyware onto the smartphone. Now the hacker can read and access all of the user messages. So far, there is not an anti malware that could scan smartphone devices and alert users. They only defense is to educate smartphone users and teach best ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Semiotic Or Semilogical Theory Of Communication 1.INTRODUCTION Communication serves a variety of purposes and takes on a variety of forms; and is so much more than merely a transmission of information. Often communication includes ambiguous forms (which may be either deliberate or spontaneous). How is one to interpret a speaker s utterances and how is this interpretation done? The Relevance Theory of Sperber and Wilson (1986) to be explored in this paper proposes an interpretation of utterances based on a theory in pragmatics about how a hearer interprets a speaker s utterances. In the past, two models have been put forward to explain how communication is processed. They are as follows: 1.1.The Code Model This model (also known as the Shannon Weaver model (1949)) presents... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... their shared knowledge). There is therefore a certain degree of reliance on the hearer making the right inferences from what is not explicitly communicated. This may be diagrammatised as follows: Speaker s thought/intention + context mediated information encoded transmitted decoded + context mediated information intention/thought understood. Inference may be understood from the following example: The message Tom has bought the Times requires contextual knowledge for it to be understood i.e. that the Times is the name of a newspaper publication. Also, it is to be inferred from the statement that rather than buying the entire press enterprise, Tom has merely bought one issue, and probably the issue of the day in question. The Inferential model includes Grice s model of implicature (i.e. what is meant, suggested or hinted at but not overtly stated). Therefore, in order for communication to be successful, Grice proposed the Cooperative Principle which includes the maxims of quantity, quality relevance and manner. The Relevance theory develops the maxim of relevance. With regards to metaphorical language, there is no sharp dividing line between it and the literal. The same cognitive processes are involved in understanding all utterances. This distinguishes our view from the classical (Aristotelian) view of figurative language where figurative utterances ... • 6. Conflict In Graphic Novel Persepolis Satrapi s graphic novel, Persepolis, depicts the coming of age story of Marjane and her experiences before, during, and after the Iranian war. In the course of Marjane s experiences, she frequently encounters conflict and the hardships that ensue when growing up. Nevertheless, these hardships are major factors that shape Marjane as a character and establish the context of the novel. Satrapi uses the graphic novel conventions and literary devices to convey conflicts of Marjane that are within herself, with man (in the form of her teachers), and with society. Firstly, pages 70 71 demonstrate Marjane s inner conflict with her emotions, beliefs, and mind after the loss of her uncle. In order to convey the grief, Marjane feels, Satrapi draws a ... Through this scene, it reveals the difference of Marjane s opinions against the government s and the society. In the first panel, the dealers speech bubbles don t have fully closed boundaries. This indicates that words aren t said at normal output and they are whispering. Since they are whispering, it signifies that buying tapes need to be kept confidential. Furthermore, in the second to the third panel, both Marjane and the dealer have serious expressions; panels backgrounds are black; and both characters turn their heads too quickly observe their surroundings. These actions suggest the requirement for caution and secrecy, which indicate that severe punishment occurs to those they catch buying and dealing tapes. Although Satrapi expresses the dangers of these actions, Marjane takes the risk to buy tapes and oppose the law. This proves her strong opposition to the government s laws and beliefs. Satrapi also illustrates the women s branch as tall, wearing all black, and having angry expressions, which express dominance and power over Marjane. Example Of Sacrifice Research Paper Sacrifice During a time that inner struggle does not outweigh the prospering will for success, sacrifice breaks through the darkness and allows the light in. Throughout many stages of life each one encounters some sort of sacrifice despite the outcome. Person against person sacrifice, conflict, is dehumanizing, and is the burning sensation in relationship to a sunburn in the middle of summer. Person against society is fighting for what he or she believes in to help better the idea of freedom; that freedom is different for everyone. Sacrifice is sunlight, which can illuminate or scorch based upon the individual s perspective. Sacrifice does not always have to be about war, but that does not mean it never is. • 8. Othello By William Shakespeare s Othello Shakespeare s Othello peels back the layers of society s underlying feelings regarding people who lie outside of the perceived standard norm. It digs into the heart of society and reveals the damage that is placed upon individuals who are considered outsiders, even if they manage to achieve success. In this particular play, the audience is able to see how the subtleties of racial bias slowly destroy a person s psyche. Throughout the play, the audience examines Othellocast in both negative and positive positions. Othello is both a great general of the Venetian army as well as, just the moor who used magic to trick his wife, Desdemona, into a marriage. Through harmful racial language Othello is constantly reminded of his outsider status. The destruction of his character through blatant and subtle criticisms cause Othello to doubt his self worth and ultimately leads to his self destruction. Racial otherness and the inconspicuous barrier it creates in this play is the key to understanding the tragedy of Othello. Iago and Roderigo open the play with slanderous statements about the character and personality of Othello that allows the audience to view how society perceives Othello. The language Roderigo and Iago use is openly offensive and can t be mistaken for anything other than hate based on Othello s race. Roderigo refers to Othello as the thick lips as well as a lascivious Moor , during the opening of the play. Both Iago and Roderigo are disgusted with the high rank ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On The San Francisco Earthquake The San Francisco Earthquake The San Francisco Earthquake written by Jack London is journal of his events throughout the devastating acts of God that hit San Francisco in 1906. Fires broke out in every direction and this thriving city became mostly ashes. People became curious and gracious in this time of turmoil and that has never before been seen in San Francisco. When all hope was lost the firefighters made a great stand putting out the fire and ending the turmoil. The way that London wrote how his life was in the middle of the San Francisco Earthquake written very well for his audience to follow along and know what is going on, he also used great detail to explain where he was to make the audience feel like they were there, but todays audience would not have viewed the his writings as they would in his time. ... Thousands of them had gone to bed on the grass. (464) this brings his audience to Union Square where they will see thousands of people laying in the grass. He also says: On Mission Street lay a dozen steers, in a neat row stretching across the street, just as they had been struck down by the flying ruins of the earthquake. • 12. An Essay On The Character Of Irene Redfield Irene Redfield is a morally reprehensible woman with an ironic twinge to her character. While claiming she is proud of who she is and her race she simultaneously hides who she is for convenience. She looks down on those who do the same for the sake of being able to live without persecution. Irene hides her race by passing in ways that seem at first benign such as sitting in a white upper class restaurant The Drayton (Larsen, 13). As she sits, not at all uncomfortable in her surroundings, she slowly becomes transfixed with a beauty in the room who draws the attention of everyone around her. This was Clare Kendry, a foil to Irene s careful management of her life. What the introduction of Clare and her manner of passing bring to light is that Irene passes not just for convenience but also for the power of the act. By being someone of color in a place that looks down on it, she feels in control. Clare Kendry is the complete opposite of this philosophy of calculated risk, flaunting herself at anyone who passes by. Clare Kendry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 14. Budget Deficit Analysis Across the United States, public schools are experiencing major budget deficits. These deficits lead to a debate over what program or sometimes multiple programs will be cut from schools in certain areas. Fine Arts programs are often the first considered and ultimately cut from schools. More specifically theatre and dance are among the most targeted in artsprograms. The National Center for EducationStatistics reported, In the 2009 10 school year, 3 percent of elementary schools offered instruction that was designated specifically for dance during regular school hours. This percentage represents a decrease from 1999 2000, when 20 percent of the schools reported instruction that was designed specifically for dance (Parsad 40). However,... When an individual dances the body releases the neurotransmitter, endorphins, which serve as the body s natural painkiller to reduce stress. (Dancing to Relieve Stress par. 3). Another emotional benefit to dance education is the ability for students to express themselves. A journal titled, Creativity, Self Expression, and Dance by Peter J. Arnold goes into detail about the connections between dance, creativity, and self expression. Arnold claims, Self expression in its naturalistic state is perhaps best characterized as a form of emotional discharge which results from an unreflective reaction to a situation or event (53). He then explains, It is sometimes said, for example, that activities like creative writing, singing, music, painting, pottery, carving, drawing, instrumental music, drama, and dance help the child or adolescent to act out or aggressive tendencies, conflicts, and tensions (Arnold 53). While there is always risk that a baby could have any number of health conditions, one rarely occurring condition is situs inversus. Situs refers to the position of an organ, with situs solitus being the ordinary arrangement of organs (Dictionary). Situs inversus is when the organs in the chest and abdomen are mirrored, or opposite, of where their ordinary location should be. This is a unique genetic condition that affects 1 in 10,000 babies born each year ( 15 Incredible Situs Inversus Statistics ). While situs inversus is the general term used, there are three subtypes of the condition that can occur: dextrocardia, levocardia and ambiguous. The two main subtypes of situs inversus are dextrocardia and levocardia, with the third subtype being situs ambiguous. The differences between the two main subtypes are based on the position of the heart. If the heart is still on the left side yet the rest of the organs are flipped, it is considered situs inversus with levocardia. However, if the heart is on the right side instead of the left, along with the rest of the organs being flipped, it is considered situs inversus with dextrocardia, also known as situs inversus totalis, or a true mirror image . Of the two, levocardia is the most rare, with an occurrence rate of only 1 in 22,000 births ( 15 Incredible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What do we really know about the crime rate? And what do we understand about violent crime rates, trends, and variations? We will discuss these issues to gain a better understanding about the UCR system. FBI UCR for Georgia When I checked my state, which is GA and compared what I have been told by some of my associates from the Augusta, Georgia Richmond Country Sheriff department it was what I expected, which was that crime rates were going down. So, there were no surprise there at all. It showed me that between, 2012 2013 that we had some decrease in violent crimes, for instance, in 2012 based on the population of 9,915,646 we had a total 37,675 violent crimes, and in 2013 based on the population of 9,992,167 there were only a total of 35,943 violent crimes ( Crime in the , 2013). So there was a 4.6 percent change in violent crimes within those two years, and within the violent crime rate per 100,000: was 380.0 for 2012, and in 2013 was 357.9 that there was an overall percent change of 5.3 ( Crime in the , 2013). Why has it dropped? Well most LEOs believe that it has dropped because of proactive arrests, faster responses to 911 calls, higher number of LEOs on the streets, community policing, and more random patrols. Thereby all of these reasons could help crime rates go down, but one can never tell with criminals. But, for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Analysis Of Girl In A Country Song Girl In A Country Song provides an alternative equipment for living through the rules of how women and men should behave. Throughout the introduction of the video, the women are portrayed as weak and dressing in a way to only attract the male eye. This is seen through the way that the women desire the men s attention and acceptance, which goes along with the societal norm of women being less than men. However, towards the end of the video, women are portrayed in a more dominant role. Teaching women viewers that they aren t less worthy than the men, and that they should speak up against sexism is crucial. To summarize, the text teaches us that it is inappropriate to view girls as anything less than exceptional, which challenges American hegemony and ideology. An array of logos is demonstrated through the use of a logical organization and style throughout, that emphasizes the lyrics and scenes. Organization makes sense for how Maddie and Tae want the sequence of the events to be shown. The master plot for the music videois transformation; the girls are going through an emotional change of realization that they aren t less worthy than boys. A linear storytelling method allows the video to start off with what is seen in reality and moves on to show how ridiculous it looks, which enhances the storyline. Literature, movies, and music, saturated with violence, enter the homes of millions everyday. On the other hand, in Beloved, a novel by Toni Morrison, violence contributes greatly to the overall work. The story takes place during the age of the enslavement of African Americans for rural labor in plantations. Sethe, the proud and noble protagonist, has suffered a great deal at the hand of schoolteacher. One may argue that she does not display much emotion while killing her children, she unquestionably resembles a lunatic. Without this vital scene, Beloved would lack the utterly shocking element that such violence provides. People want to immerse themselves into stories about lunatics, emerge in the drama, and sympathize with the dire pain Sethe feels. Violent scenes, among other elements, allow for this to occur in a novel. Destruction of identity, another theme of the novel, relates to the violent scenes. In the second part of Beloved, Sethe takes a stand and expresses her feeling on the violent acts being performed on her. Nobody will ever get my milk no more except my own children. I never had to give it to nobody else and the one time I did it was took from me they held me down and took it. Milk that belonged to my baby (Morrison 200). Sethe finally comes to terms with her past and vows to never let such a horrendous act happen to her again. Beloved s reincarnation occurs because Sethe needs to face her dark past head on and free herself from living in shame. It took time, but, Sethe eventually overcomes the odds and begins to live freely and peacefully in her house. Morrison bases Sethe s character off of real life murderer, Margaret Garner. Morrison leaves few of the important elements of the story the same and alters others. Why did Morrison go through the trouble of writing Beloved? She did not write it for ...
