Napa Valley CanDo is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that publishes an annual giving guide called the Give!Guide to raise funds and awareness for other local nonprofits. The Give!Guide allows donors to support multiple organizations through one donation. It has raised over $1.8 million for 40-50 nonprofits included each year. To be included, organizations must serve Napa County residents and apply through an application process.
This presentation was designed for nonprofits serving Clark, Cowlitz or Skamania Counties in order to introduce the concept of Give More 24! This 24-hour giving challenge utilizes crowdfunding technology and match dollars to rally do-gooders. Anyone is encouraged to give what they can, wherever they are, to support their favorite causes and organizations in southwest Washington. By leveraging this collective effort, local nonprofits can raise awareness for their missions, engage new donors and make giving fun for everyone.

Does a Charitable Remainder Trust, Beneficiary Designation, Bequest of Shares or Tangible Personal Property, Annuity or Charitable Lead Trust mean anything to you? If it doesn’t spend an hour with us and it will. These are sophisticated giving methods by which you can tempt your highest givers to make larger donations to you. It’s not difficult but it is very common in America and many of your donors will have been offered these methods by the nonprofits and other organizations they support. You need to know about them in order to be able to compete effectively.

Giving Days & the Great Canadian Fundraising Landscape hjc
This week, hjc and Kimbia presents Giving Days & the Great Canadian Landscape webinar. Register for this webinar to learn:
- What is a Giving Day, and why your nonprofit should start now
- The state of the Canadian Fundraising landscape
- Real life case studies and how to benchmark yourselves
For most nonprofits, planning for their future isn't the first thing on their minds. That's why the California Community Foundation in Los Angeles developed the Planned Giving Toolkit to assist nonprofits expand their fundraising horizons and better prepare for their future.
This is the presentation that accompanied a series of free workshops CCF held across the county to help nonprofits implement planned giving programs. This presentation can be used by any nonprofit to present to their boardmembers, donors, and others who would be interested in being leaving planned gifts.
Building Stronger Donor Relations SystemsColin Cumming
In recent years, phrases like “culture of philanthropy” and “donor centricity” have hit the field by storm, often with budget-breaking strategies for implementation and little information about where to start when one may not be a decision-maker. Thus at the Johnson Center for Philanthropy's Brown Bag Lunch & Learn Series, I facilitated a discussion about the importance of donor relations when it comes to long-term fundraising success and ethical fundraising practices. I also talked about the role of fundraising in the context of arts and cultural organizations.
The goal of the event was for participants to walk away with easy to understand ideas for their own organizations and volunteer roles. I discussed: Donor relations and fundraising from a historical perspective; How to integrate engaging donor relations practices into your fundraising program; Fund development challenges specific to membership-based organizations, arts and cultural organizations, and organizations that frequently request general operating funds.
I have posted the first version of the PledgeGo pitch deck. This is a high-level presentation of the PledgeGo model and the value we bring to our donors and charities.

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.

successful than appeals to the head.

In Nov. 2011, CanDo member, Amy Garden, visited Portland, OR. There, she spotted a catalog featuring local nonprofits to whom readers were encouraged to donate via a website. She brought that catalog to our attention and we were smitten.

NF
Compressed time frame creates feeling of urgency. Traditional paper catalog eases the way for those who are not yet high tech. User-friendly website includes running tally (auction-like excitement). To learn more, visitors may click to NPO websites, FB pages, YouTube videos.
HZ Based on our post-G!G survey, NPOs had an average of nearly 27% new donors on the lists of donors they received with their checks.
In 2013 we didn’t know if we would bring in $10,000 in donations in our first year or $50,000. This isn’t about CanDo raising funds for local NPOs. It’s about that culture of giving we’re striving to create together to the benefit of all. This year? How about ___________? But the Napa Valley Give!Guide is about community coming together, and catalyzing that action is what CanDo does best.
HZ If an NPO serves a substantial number of Napa County residents or causes, they may qualify to be in the Give!Guide. However, any donations received need to be applied to Napa County.
HZ
HZ We’re looking for small, medium, and large NPOs that serve all seven categories: Animals, Arts and Culture, Community, Education, Environment, Health and Wellness, Youth and Seniors.

Every household, St. Helena to AmCan, receives G!G following PR campaign. It comes via Napa Valley Marketplace, our printing partner. Additional copies for Calistoga, public places, schools.
NF One-stop shopping: Donations as small as $10. Donate button yields list of ALL NPOs. Donor may enter different amounts for several nonprofits. A final click will deduct their total in a single CC transaction. Donors receive immediate acknowledgement if donating on-line. At the same time, NPOs receive email notification of donations. NPOs are responsible for sending thank yous and tax-deductible receipts by Jan. 31 of the following year.
NF Outreach campaign is critical: Email, social media, fundraisers, volunteer events, word of mouth. The goal: Valley-wide Give!Guide buzz! This year’s only mandatory gathering: Sept. 5.
Incentives: Incentives will be offered by the G!G every day. Nonprofits submit one incentive valued at $100 to the pool. G!G Team generates the rest. Individual nonprofits may offer their own incentives as well (e.g. ice cream cones, massages, website design).
___% of website visits begin w/ FB posts. Boosting.
HZ Other marketing strategies: Posters, street banners, vinyl banners, KVON involvement, radio interviews, print media
HZ Simple application. Variety of NPOs. Applicants asked to self-identify for categories (animals, arts and culture, community, education, environment, health and wellness, youth and seniors). Intend to bring in new, well-qualified NPOs each year.

And why are we doing it? Two reasons: First, because we so value all the work that each of you is doing to serve our communities every single day.
Second: NV CanDo believes that most people are remarkably generous. They derive great satisfaction from helping others, but are not always certain how to help. It's our mission to help ease the way from intent to action. With your help, the Give!Guide will do just that.
