Name Essay Examples
Writing an essay on the topic of "Name Essay Examples" can prove to be a challenging task, as it
requires a delicate balance between personal reflection and objective analysis. The difficulty lies
in crafting a piece that not only explores the significance of names but also provides concrete
examples to illustrate the various dimensions of this seemingly simple yet profound aspect of
human identity.
One hurdle is the potential for the essay to become overly subjective, veering into a mere
recounting of personal experiences with names. On the other hand, maintaining objectivity and
incorporating diverse examples to support generalizations can be a meticulous task. Striking the
right balance between the personal and the universal is crucial for the essay to resonate with
readers.
Moreover, the challenge extends to the necessity of conducting thorough research to gather a
diverse array of name-related examples. This requires delving into cultural, historical, and literary
contexts to provide a comprehensive understanding of the topic. The difficulty lies in navigating
through a vast sea of information to select the most relevant and impactful examples that
contribute meaningfully to the essay's narrative.
Additionally, weaving a coherent and engaging storyline while incorporating different name
examples requires a skillful hand. The essay must avoid becoming a mere list of examples
without a clear overarching theme or argument. It demands the writer to carefully structure the
narrative, ensuring that each example seamlessly connects to the next, creating a compelling and
logical flow.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Name Essay Examples" presents a multifaceted challenge that
involves a delicate balance between personal reflection, objective analysis, extensive research,
and skillful storytelling. It's a task that demands both creativity and analytical prowess to
produce a piece that resonates with readers.
If you find the task too daunting or time-consuming, there are alternative solutions. Similar

Twelve items selected from my closet for this project....
Twelve items selected from my closet for this project. They were manufactured in
China, Vietnam, Pakistan, Turkey, India, and the U.S. Five countries in this list are
located in Asia; The U.S, China, and India are three of the six contemporary world
powers. For physical locations, both of China and Vietnam located in the East and
Southeast Asia; India and Pakistan located in the south Asia; Turkey located in the
Middle East, and the U.S located in the North America. Despite I purchased those
clothes in the U.S, according to the chart, it is easy to observe that six items were
made in China, and two made in Vietnam. This fact reflects that China and Vietnam
became significant signs of manufacturing in the world. In addition, the larger... Show

Based on the population issue, the Chinese government enforced the birth control
policy from the late twentieth century until now, so the total fertility rate of China is
lower than the total fertility rate of the U.S. In the labor market, China plays an
important role of the labor export. Large population emerges more workers, so the
labors are cheaper in China. After the cold war in the 1990s, the global economic
cooperation made the connection between countries was more close and complex.
Many international companies invent and possess their core technologies in the
U.S or other developed countries, but they found their manufacturing factories in
China. They already aimed at the Chinese large cheap labor market could reduce
the cost in their entire business. Consequently, people can find different kind of
stuff labeled as made in China easily and frequently it is a good explanation for the
fact of half of my clothes were made in China . Many small factories which produce
clothes and accessories are located in small towns in southeast of China, especially
Zhejiang, Fujian, and Guangdong Provinces. Most of workers in those factories are
wide range age women who from rural areas with lower level education. Their
working conditions are depended on the conditions of the factories. Vietnam has the

authors who wrote first five books of the Bible Essay
Documentary hypothesis says that there were several authors who wrote first five
books of the Bible. In my essay I will try to discuss J, P, and E authors of Genesis,
Exodus and Numbers. I must admit that all these authors had lived after the division
of the kingdom.
AUTHOR J
This author was identified as J for using word Yahweh or Jehovahfor the name of
God. Also there is an interesting theory that author J was a woman. Of course, there
are statements that prove it. First of all I want pay your attention on the fact that we
are speaking about patriarchal society where a man was a head of the family and the
role of a woman was to give a birth to children. But in the Bible we can find verses
and even whole chapters that tell us about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s why Judah is the main character in all stories of J. For example: in
Gen.37:26 27 he proposes to sell Joseph, then in Gen.43:3 10 Judah persuades Israel
to send Benjamin with him and guarantees his safety. And one more interesting
thing is that although Judah was only the fourth son, in Gen.49:8 Israel says that
his brothers will praise and bow down to him. So in such a way he gets a birthright.
Also Jerusalem and Ark of the Covenant (a sign to the people that God is with them)
are very important for J (2 Samuel 5,6).
I want to emphasize that political and religious systems were very close in that
time: J never mentioned Joshua in her passages because he is from Ephraim
(Jeroboam is from Ephraim) and in Num.25:1 5 J writes that men from Israel began
to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women and God said Moses to kill
them. This is political decision because Moabites were enemies of Israel.
Also J author has several trademarks . First of all, God in her passages is always
anthropomorphic, it means that all action He is doing by His hands. This is shown
in creation story: Gen.2:7 LORD God formed the man , in Gen.2:21 He took one of
the man s ribs and in Gen.3:8 He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day .
And now I d like to talk about doublets. Besides creation story, we also have two
flood stories (J says that rain lasted 40 days), two stories when Abraham says that
Sarah is his sister (J
The Four Freedoms Speech
On June 6, 1941, United States President Franklin Delano Roosevelt made a
speech that has since been known as The Four Freedoms Speech. In this speech, he
outlines four freedoms he hopes every person in the world will obtain in the
future. He identifies the four freedoms as the following: ...Freedom of speech and
expression everywhere in the world... freedom of every person to worship God in
his own way everywhere in the world... freedom from want which, translated into
world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a
healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants everywhere in the world... freedom from
fear which, translated into world terms, means a world wide reduction of
armaments to such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no nation will be in
a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbor anywhere
in the world. Over 75 years later, we still do not have the freedoms President
Roosevelt wished upon us. A specific freedom that still does not exist is economic
understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its
inhabitants. There are still dozens of poverty stricken countries, known as Heavily
Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC). These are countries that have a national debt that is
unmanageable with traditional manners alone. The good news is that the Heavily
Indebted Poor Countries Initiative began in 1996 to address this issue. The World
Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMC), and other creditors teamed up to
reduce the debt of 36 countries that met strict criteria. In order to be considered for
assistance, countries must have an unsustainable amount of debt, be eligible for
interest free loans from the World Bank s International Development Agency, have a
good track record of reform through World Bank supported programs, and have
completed a Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP). After a country shows that
they have met this criteria and continues to meet it and follow through with with
their strategy, then they are deemed capable of earning their complete amount of
debt relief funds. As of 2015, all 36 of the heavily indebted poor countries have
received their full amount of debt relief they were

Sexism In I Am Malala

putting this in her writing we see that these girls weren t even in control of who they

Persuasive Essay On Sports Injuries
Athletes should be playing a sport for the love of that sport not because they are
trying to hurt people while trying to be the best. Some people think that most
injuries are just freak accidents that can t be avoided. Injuries in sports is a big
deal because it can cause permanent damage to someone else or even yourself
ending one s career, and could cause people to go to therapy for what they have
done to someone. Having the proper gear and teams with good sportsmanship and
without revenge can all be factors to decrease injuries.
People shouldn t be getting hurt playing a sport that requires someone to wear a lot
of padding. According to Brett Favre, injuries obviously change the way you
approach the game. Even a professional athlete understands
Does General Haig Deserve to Be Remembered The Butcher

Field Marshall Sir Douglas Haig (19 June 1861 29 January 1928) was a senior
commander in the First World War (WWI), and perhaps one of the most notable
figures in British Military history. Although he served as the commander of the
British Expeditionary Force (BEF) from 1915 to the end of the war which was one
of the greatest victories in Britain s militaryhistory the involvement during the Battle
of the Somme, lead him to become one of the most criticized Commanders in the
WWI. The Battle of the Somme is the battle with one of the highest casualties in
Britain military history, alongside with the highest single casualties in the whole
history of British military.
General Haig was the commander of the BEF in the battle.

showed how Haig treats his soldiers stay 50 kilometers away the front line and
giving commands when he is feeling good.
Alongside Fred, David Lloyd George, British Prime Minister during the First World

Commander in unparalleled and unforeseen circumstances... He was not endowed
with any of the elements of imagination and vision ... And he certainly had none of
that personal magnetism which has enabled great leaders of men to inspire
multitudes with courage, faith and a spirit of sacrifice ... He was incapable of
planning vast campaigns on the scale demanded on so immense a battlefield.
Incapable and the lack of kindness to his soldiers make him unavoidable to suit the

A Critique of Chapter 11 in Neil Postman s Technopoly
Essay
A Critique of Chapter 11 in Neil Postman s Technopoly In chapter 11 (The Loving
Resistance Fighter) of the book Technopoly, published in 1992, Neil Postman
focuses on a solution to the problems created by Technopoly. A Technopoly (a word
postman capitalizes throughout the book) is a society that no longer merely uses
technology as a support system but instead is shaped by it. Postman proposes that we
become loving resistance fighter(s) who retain the narratives and symbols that once
made the United States the hope of the world (p.182). He believes education is to
lead the resistance against technology by changing the curriculum to help restore a
sense of meaning and purpose lost to the Technopoly.... Show more content on

In chapter 11 Postman gives examples of people who resist the American
Technopoly. An example of a resistance fighter is a person who ignores a poll
unless they know the questions asked and why. As Postman introduced in chapter
8 ( Invisible Technologies ), the form of a question can produce many different
answers. It may also restrict us from seeing solutions to problems that may become
visible through a question worded differently. Postman shares the story of two
priests who write the Pope asking if it was allowable to smoke and pray at the
same time. One priest phrased the question Is it permissible to smoke while
praying? and the response was no because praying should be the focus of ones
attention; the other priest asked Is it permissible to pray while smoking? and the
response was yes, since it is always appropriate to pray. The opinion of almost any
issue is a function of the question asked. In the American Technopoly the opinion
poll is a strict yes or no answer to an unexamined question. One is therefore unable
to share their knowledge and is easily mislead to answer a question in a certain
way. Another example of a resistance fighter is a person who does not allow
psychology or any social science to pre empt the language and thought of common
sense. This example clearly relates to chapter 9 ( Scientism ), in which Postman
expresses his annoyance of the many people who have a strong
War In A Separate Peace
For me, this moment four years is a moment in history was the war. The war was
and is a reality for me. I still instinctively live and think in its atmosphere (32). This
quote made by Gene encapsulates the major role World War II plays in A Separate
Peace. John Knowles, the author, utilizes the war as a spectacular backdrop for his
novel. In fact, without World WarII, this book would just be another story lost in the
churn of the millions of novels published. A Separate Peace, which would lack an
external conflict, have only a paucity of symbolisms and connections, and suffer
from a lack of explanation for many of the character s actions, would need to be
completely rewritten or scratched altogether. The absence of World War II would
jeopardize... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Three of the main characters, Gene, Brinker, and Leper would all dramatically
change if there was no war. Probably the most obvious of these characters who
were impacted by the World War II was Leper. The innocent of the class, Leper
never knew what he was getting into when he enlisted to ski in the war. Leper s
life is then turned upside down, and he goes completely crazy. Without the war,
Leper s character would need to be developed in some alternative way. Brinker also
completely changes and manipulates his actions as a consequence of this war.
Known formerly as the most responsible, respectable leader on campus at Devon,
Brinker morphs into a character that seems particularly indifferent and downright
rebellious. Knowles indirectly characterizes him through Gene s thoughts,
mentioning that Brinker the Lawgiver had turned rebel for the Duration (122). It
is very difficult for one to say that without the war, Brinker would select the path of
rebellion, rather than stay serious and have a possibly brighter future. Finally, Gene
is not only affected by his internal struggles but also the struggle that is going on
overseas as he completes his years at Devon. Like most things that happen in the
protagonist s life, Gene is never concrete on his stance or the following actions he
should take on these. He desires to lose his old, murky life in
How Business Has Affected Sports
Throughout the ages sport has always taken some form, whether it was to train the
armies during the medieval era to the current explosion that has become the global
football industry. This essay will discuss whether or not sport has become a subject
that is no longer just about itself, but has gained a heavy focus on business more so
than itself. To do this, the essay will look at how business has affected two sports
sectors and their elite level of sport, by delving into the way in which it has affected
the English Premier League(Football) and the National Football League (American
Football).
If you were to go and ask a random person on the street to name a sport that they
know, the likelihood of them replying with football would be up there with one of
the top group of responses, as in recent years it has experienced a high growth rate
in terms of money invested and global participators. When looking at this from an
outside angle however, the question is whether or not these recently formed teams
and leagues have been created for the love or the sport, or have they seen the
potential to earn a high level of revenue and have taken the route of making it a
business venture?
To provide background in order to formulate and answer to this question we can
look at the history of the English game and the formational of the globally
recognised Premier League . In the 1991 1992 emerged victorious against all their
rivals and won the English First Division for the
Run With The Horsemen Essay
Little Porter Osborne, Jr. grew up on a farm in Georgia where the people own the
land and the land, in turn, owns the people. In the novel, Run with the Horsemen,
Porter fights his way through adolescence and the depression, learning more about
life every day from the big boys under the tree at lunch. Ferrol Sams is able to
portray a realistic account of life on a farm during the depression by using humor,
dialect, and vivid imagery.
Humor is used throughout the book to keep the reader interested in what would
otherwise be a boring story of hard work and hard times. The boring and tedious act
of plowing is turned into a dangerous, yet humorous, occurrence when a release of
methane gas from the mule was met ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the members of the Osborne family speak properly, the farm hands (who
were, up until a short time before the novel, slaves), speak in a southern dialect
which portrays them as uneducated. A good example of this is when Buddy pleads
with Porter to, Keep yo head down, Sambo! For God s sake, keep yo head down an be
stiller n you ever been in yo life befo! The same words are used as would be used by
an educated person, only they are shortened or run together.
The vivid imagery used throughout the novel allows the reader to have a better idea
of what life was like. The summer plowing is said to have a rhythm that is almost
musical, The stride of a man matched that of a mule in a one plane dance down a
cotton row with ears of the mule plunging forward then backward in unison with
the pull of the forelegs, now the hind legs, as the heavy plow was dragged
smoothly through the whispering earth. This passage allows the reader to imagine
the rhythm of the plowing, which makes it seem more real than just saying that the
mule plowed up and down the row. All this plowing happened as, Over and above
and beyond and around could be heard bird song. The imagery of a man plowing in
the heat with birds
My Ideal Life
Life is a beautiful, inconsistent gift given to each of us. Through the course of our
lives, we grow and shape our ideal life, but often life completely alters the course
which you yearn for it to follow. Often, life is filled with unexpected surprises,
both resulting in either negative or positive outcomes. But, it is not simply these
instances that shape us, but our response to them and the choices we make.
Throughout my life, I have been face to face with critical circumstances regarding
my health, five of which left me in the hospital. These were some of the most
challenging times of my life, not only in the injuries and illnesses I faced, but in
the following adjustments which followed. When I was two, I suffered a very
chronic case of RSV, which later caused me to contract asthma. This kept me
indoors, surrounded by my nebulizers, and my books. I was a very bright and
curious child. I had a very inquisitive outlook on the world; I wanted to understand
everything. I was instructed to wash my hands one afternoon, and being the
obedient, independent child I was, I did just that. I climbed atop my white footstool,
reached for the soap, dispensed a drop and washed my hands. I noticed that the soap
was at its initial position, the spring was outstretched once more, and the soap was
no longer coming from the mouth of the dispensing tube. I had to know why! I
turned the water off and inspected the soap more closely, repeating the dispensing
action until I could wrap my head

Norwin Meneses was the primary connection to Colombian cocaine in Nicaragua
prior to the 1979 Sandinista takeover. He fled with Blandon and other Somoza
sympathizers and became instrumental in the funding of the Contras through CIA
sanctioned cocaine sales in America (OIG, 2016). As the Contra counter revolution
began to form, he became the adviser to the military commander of the Contra
forces. He was known drug kingpin of Nicaragua due to his close ties to Colombian
drug cartels and those same connections gave him the access to the quantities of
cocaine that would sold in the United States to fund the Contra s CIA sponsored

Notes On The Y Formacion Del Derecho
ADMINISTRATIVO
Su negaciГіn consiste en el desconocimiento de la distinciГіn de regГmenes es decir,
en una proclama a la igualdad entre regГmenes normativos, administrativos o

Othello Illusion Vs Reality Essay
Every day we are constantly meeting new people and with meeting new people
comes new personalities. Some may be our friend while others may be hypocritical.
But at the end true colors are revealed. Illusion verses reality is one of the many
themes expressed in Othello by William Shakespeare. There are many examples
shown through the character Othellowhere the misconception of illusionand reality
leads to misfortune. This is displayed when Othello develops an outrageous jealousy
due to Iago manipulating him, or when there s irrelevant hatred created between
Othello and Cassio because of these manipulations. When Iago s schemes work it
fools Othello s gullible personality, resulting in him doubting his love for Desdemona.

Due to Iago s perception of Othello being naГЇve, Iago uses his phenomenal
understanding of the human psyche as his ability to orchestrate pre planned
scenarios. Iago is successfully and carefully able to manipulate Othello s thoughts
into thinking Desdemona has been unfaithful and that it was false love. I called
my love false love, but what he said then? (IV, iii, 59) This is significant because
Desdemona is beginning to realize that the love Othello had for her must have
been false she s worried that Othello will leave her. Due to Othello s inability to
differentiate between delusion and reality it s bringing forth disaster leading to
their relationship suffering. Othello being able to trust people easily allowed Iago
s words to manipulate him into making a tremendously poor decision which was
killing Desdemona. Put out the light, and then put out the light, (V,ii, 7) This quote
is paramount because Othello blows out the candle just before he strangles
Desdemona which symbolizes Desdemona s fragile life and because he is so
manipulated by Iago there is no turning back and he is ready to kill her. Othello
muses that the difference between Desdemona s life and a candle s light is that he
can put out and relight the candle but he cannot bring Desdemona back to life. The
thought of not being able to bring Desdemona back to life did not stop him from
murdering Desdemona,
Man At The Crossroads
The Man at the Crossroads
Did Nelson do right in destroying Diego Rivera s mural The man at the crossroads ?
The man at the crossroads was located at the center of Rockefeller center in New
York. He was right in destroying Diego s mural because of several reasons. The first
reason is that Rivera didn t achieve Nelson s vision in how the mural would turn
out. The second reason why Rockefeller was right in destroying the painting was
because it was too controversial. The last reason is that Nelson s reputation would
have been ruined by the mural. Overall Rockefeller was right in destroying Rivera s
mural.
In addition, why Nelson was right about destroying Rivera s mural was that his
vision wasn t achieved by Diego. Rivera didn t achieve Nelson s vision in his work
of the mural Man at the Crossroads. According to destroyed by Rockefeller, mural

attract a possibly larger amount of viewers. In such a situation, many companies
operating in entertainment industry and television attempt to conduct marketing
researches and develop effective marketing strategies to introduce their products to
the mass audience. For this purpose, they use a variety of tools, such as
questionnaires, audience measurements, ratings, face to face interviews and ... Show

In addition, the Internet allows journalists to communicate with their audience. What
is meant here is the fact that unlike other mass media, the Internet is truly interactive
to the extent that journalists and audience can exchange ideas freely without any
significant limitations. For instance, journalists can receive a feedback from the
audience in a matter of minutes after the material they have prepared is published on
the web. In such a way, journalists can receive the feedback from the audience and
develop their professional work taking into consideration needs and wants of the
audience or simply sharing their ideas with the audience attempting to persuade the
audience, and so on. In other words, the Internet is becomes not just a means of
bombardment of the audience with information that leads to the overwhelming
impact of media on the consciousness of people. Instead, the Internet becomes the
means of communication between the audience and journalists.
The commercialization of modern media affects the work of journalists and the
development of mass media at large. In this respect, it should be said that some
specialists have a very interesting and original view on the influence of advertising
and mass media on consumers and on consumers themselves. For instance, Naom
Chomsky treats consumers as product. In order to understand his point of view it
would be enough to study
Juvenile Offenders With Substance Abuse Problems
This paper will discuss some of the treatment options available for juvenile
offenders with substance abuse problems. The paper will contain explanations of
the available programs, how they work, who is eligible for them, and other factors.
After discussing how the programs work this paper will then take a look at which
programs seem to be working and lessening recidivism and which ones may not be
as effective. In the past several years researchers have found intervention strategies
and program models that hope to prevent juvenile delinquency and promote good
social attitudes and development (Greenwood, 2008). More than 1,000,000
adolescents go through the American Criminal court system every year and of those
approximately 160,000 juvenile offenders are sent to juvenile placement centers
(Henggeler Schoenwald, 2011). The U.S. criminal justice system has been wise
enough to realize that treatment programs need to be implemented in order to lessen
recidivism in these young offenders and help ensure that they go on to live healthy
productive lives. Officials within the court system must weigh the interests of public
safety with the needs of the young offender when deciding which program is best for
the juvenile and which level of restriction is required (Austin, Johnson, Weitzer,
2011). An example of this idea would be that a juvenile offender who has committed
a violent and/or serious crimemay need to be confined in order to protect the safety of
the public and/or
Reliability of a Narrator in Literature Essay
Stories are often told by a narrator giving his/her point of view, by using omniscient,
limited omniscient, or first person. The purpose of the narrator is to give facts and
details, being reliable or not. Three stories we have read in class are The Body, by
Stephen King, Defender of the Faith, by Philip Roth, and Everyday Use, by Alice
Walker; which give examples of a reliable narrator. Each narrator was a reliable
source of information, and told his/her story well. Stephen King s. The Body, was an
excellent representation of first person point of view narration. The main protagonist,
Gordie, was not only the narrator but a major character. Gordie told the story as an
adult looking back on his childhood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no need for him to embellish the truth, because each event could be altered
slightly by one of the other characters. Defender of the Faith, by Philip Roth, is a
story in which the narrator becomes involved with the main protagonist of the story.
This story is a good example of reliable narration, in that, Sergeant Marx goes through
a life altering experience. Through his learning, he shows the reader that each event
could have taken place. Marx has not acknowledged his religious differences until the
first conversation with Sheldon
Grossbart. You can stay and scrub floors or you can go to shul, this is the first
recognition of Marx s religion (Arp 118). Given that Sergeant Marx is Jewish, we
are able to pick out what is true about the religion and what is false. Marx points out
more than one situation where he is manipulated for the benefit of Private Sheldon
Grossbart.
In doing this, he is letting the reader into his personal experience, regardless of what
criticism he may receive. Everyday Use, by Alice Walker, was an extraordinary use of
first person narration. At first, I had no idea where this story was going to take the
reader. The narrator was passionate of her convictions about her eldest daughter. The
narrator felt more bonded with the younger daughter, because she was willing to stay
behind in the unchanging environment. The narrator showed disappointment when the
Law Of Gratitude Essay
8.The Law of Gratitude: The Law of Gratitude plays out similar to the Law of
Cause and Effect or the natural principle of action and reaction. As we look at the
law itself, when we express thankfulness to the God Force for that which we have
received (even though it is still in the unseen), it is an expenditure of force, therefore
our gratitudecannot fail to reach God, and when it does the reaction is an
instantaneous move toward you. Consider two properly aligned magnets. They are
two forces moving in opposite directions while moving toward one another.
Gratitude draws you and the Creative Force, God, directly toward each other. If our
gratitude is strong enough and consistent then there will always be a move of that
which we are co creating toward us. When the God Force moves toward us it brings
all that it is. The Law of Gratitude also dictates that if our heart is not full of
gratitude, then something else will take its place. Physics teaches that nature will not
tolerate a vacuum. That is to say that if something is removed then something else
must take its place. If our hearts are not filled with gratitude, then our hearts will be
filled with ungratefulness. An ungrateful heart will take you from what you want as
rapidly as a grateful heart will take you toward what you want. The Law of Gratitude
nourishes our faith, because as a grateful heart and mind continually expects good
things, expectation becomes faith. This faith then, becomes both the cornerstone and
the capstone of what it is we are building which comes only from our Universal
Supplier, God. Gratitude toward God has the power... Show more content on

Sweat By Hurston Analysis
Hurston found herself heavily ridiculed for her methods of writing Sweat because
people claimed that she was writing in a way that brought African Americans down to
fit into standard racial stereotypes instead of bringing them up to be equals with
whites. In reality, Sweat conveys the true lives of many African Americanwomen of
the 1900 s but this is more of a feminist story than a racial story through the

Characteristics and Impacts of American Reconstruction
Essay
Characteristics and Impacts of American Reconstruction The key goals of
Reconstruction were to readmit the South into the Union and to define the status of
freedmen in American society. The Reconstruction era was marked by political, not
violent, conflict. Some historical myths are that the South was victimized by
Reconstruction, and that the various plans of Reconstruction were corrupt and unjust.
Actually, the plans were quite lenient, enforcing military rule for only a short period
of time, ignoring land reform, and granting pardons easily. The task of Reconstruction
was to re integrate America into a whole nation, securing the rights of each man and
establishing order once again. There were three major Reconstruction... Show more

Under Johnson s plan, fifty percent of the voters in each Southern state who had voted
in the 1860 election had to take an oath of loyalty to the Union. Then, each state was
required to write new constitutions adopting the 13th amendment (Boyer, 444).
Johnson repudiated Confederate war debts, and he also supported Black Codes.
Johnson seemed sympathetic to Southern opinion at the expense of freedmen s
rights. He took steps to insure a dependant black work force for the South, and
restricted the rights of African Americans . Freedmen were not allowed to marry
interracially, perform jury duty, or give testimony in court against whites. Johnson s
plan was fatally flawed; his requirement that each state adopt the 13th amendment
was practically useless as it only dealt with Federal elections. State elections were
more important to citizens during the Reconstruction era, and unless Johnson
guaranteed State voting rights to freedmen he was offering them hardly anything at
all. Also, Johnson supported Black Codes against Northern public opinion, which
damaged him politically in the North. Finally, Johnson did not deal with land reform
or economic aid, which was economically unsound. In Congress, the Radicals and
Moderates were forced to join forces to overturn Johnson s extremely lenient plan.
Caught up in battles with Congress and an impeachment scandal until he left office,
Johnson did not achieve his Reconstruction goals. Congress
Urinalysis Informative Speech Outline
Hello Mrs. Graham Ma, I heard from your grandson that you needed an explanation
about your urinalysis. First off a urinalysis is a an examination of your urine to see if
you have diabetes, an infection, any issues with your liver, and any problems with
your kidneys. The first thing examined is the colorof your urine. Since the color is
amber, that is a good sign its normal. One particular issue that I see with your
urinalysis is that it is turbid. Turbid means there are things that make your urine
cloudy, generally because of your body fighting an infection or because your body
maybe getting rid of stored materials. Since your WBC esterase ,an enzyme usually
found in your immune cells is negative, that means your body isn t necessarily...

Since your glucose or sugar in your urine is negative that is a good sign that you
don t have diabetes. Additionally the lab checked for ketones which is produced
when your bodies breaks down fat. Usually your body will break down fat if it is
not breaking down enough sugar. As you know the body uses insulin to break down
the sugar, so checking for this is a good indication that you are producing enough
insulin. A third part to your urinalysis is to check for the kidneyfunction itself.
Occult blood is due to the kidneys not filtering out the red blood cells and thus
blood would be found in the urine. This value is negative which means that you
probably don t have any kidney problems. Other indications of kidney functions in
the urine are whether or not there is protein in the urine. Proteins such a albumin
should not be going through the kidneys and into the urine because they are used to
keep a balance in your body. Therefore, proteins upset the balance when they leave
through the kidneys. Since you are negative for protein in the urine, you definitely
don t have kidney issues. Your liver function can also be measured by a urinalysis
because of bilirubin, and uribilinogen. When your body breaks down old red blood
cells they form bilirubin, which goes through the liver. That bilirubin is then
converted to urobilinogen, which is 0.0 in your analysis. The fact that these values
are both negative and 0.0,
Caesarea Maritima Essay
The site of Caesarea Maritima contains many unique challenges for archaeological
excavations. In spite of this, through pottery analysis, archaeologists are able to learn
about different aspects of the site. Nonetheless, Caesarea Maritima has a variety of
specific challenges associated with it for archaeologists. Not only does it cover a
significant section of the coastal region, but the immense harbour, over time, has
been completely submerged in the sea. Along with geographical challenges, there are
also historical ones. The site of Caesarea Maritima was inhabited from Hellenistic
time until the Crusaders, a period spanning over 900 years. As it was continuously
inhabited, the archaeological layers contain the remnants of many different cultures....

At the site of Tell el Hesi, Petrie noticed specific styles of pottery at different stages of
the dig (Petrie 1890). By a comparison of the different pottery forms with similar
pieces dated from previous sites, Petrie was able to date the surrounding material
through the pottery. Significantly, by studying the pottery forms, Petrie created an
association between specific dates and forms of pottery (Petrie 1891) thus created a
chronology which revolutionised the archaeology of the Levant. To give an
illustration of the impact which Petrie s discovery has had upon archaeology in
the Levant, his chronology has been used on archaeological sites in the region
throughout the past century (Cole 1984; Tushingham 1986). In Caesarea Maritima
Petrie s discovery of dating a site through the pottery has assisted with dating both
the city and the harbour of Sebastos. In the harbour, the discovery of pottery was
interpreted as evidence that the city was importing goods via sea trade, during the
3rd century AD (Hohlfelder 1988). While excavating Caesarea Maritima the
Department of Antiquities in Israel discovered that an area they were excavating
was abandoned during the Arab conquest (Yeivin 1955, p. 123). Yet, because there
was evidence of pottery from the eighth and ninth centuries in addition to some
lamps, it was evidence that after the site had been abandoned it was resettled.
Because of the discovery of Mameluke pottery, it became apparent that the site was
superceded during the Crusader period (Yeivin 1955, p. 123). Petrie s discovery of
the association between pottery and dating, therefore, has assisted in the archaeology
of Caesarea

Aristotelian View Of Virtue In Electrical Engineering
In this paper, an Aristotelian view of virtue will be applied to electrical engineering,
with an emphasis on my subfield of embedded systems. Two virtues have been
selected as being particularly relevant to the field of electrical engineering. These
virtues, inspired by items in the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers) code of ethics, are the pursuit of continued education and the honest
representation of data. The IEEE code of ethics was selected due to IEEE s
relevance to the field of electrical engineeringas well as its position as the largest
technical professional organization. 1
Aristotle s ethical views were based around humanity pursuing a good life, or
Eudaimonia. Aristotle defines eudaimonia as happiness, and postulates that it is the
end goal of people.2 Eudaimonia is realized by acting virtuously. Aristotle s view on
virtues is that they are what make things exceptional. For example, a knife is
exceptional, or virtuous, if it is an excellent knife. The virtues for a knife might be
sharpness, ergonomics, and being otherwise well designed for its task. Likewise,
virtues for humans are what make them outstanding specimens .
Aristotle divided these human virtues into two groups: virtues of thought and virtues
of character. Virtues of thought are intellectual virtues 2 and involve the part of the
soul that engages in reasoning 2. This includes virtues like prudence, the ability to
reason, and grasping the nature of things. 3 Conversely,

DISCIPLE MAKING IN THE LOCAL CHURCH
A Written Assignment 3
Cynthia Taylor
DSMN 500 B10
September, 2014
SUMMARY
According to Early Dempsey, a disciple is a person, while discipleship is a process. A
disciple is a passionate follower of Jesus Christ who is intimately involved in the
mission of Christ. On the other hand, discipleship is the process of moving the
disciple towards spiritual maturity and the mission of Christ. Being a disciple is God
s perfect will for every individual life; however, discipleship is God s will for every
individual church [1]
The Great Commission denotes that disciples must be made. Many worship
opportunities have been provided by the church such as fellowship, bible study and
church events that will aid in developing the mind set of Christ, being obedient to the
commands of Christ, engaging in his commission and being transformed into His
image. According to Jesus disciples need to be made and informed.
How disciple are made? According to Disciple Shift, pastor and author Jim Putman
describes diverse stages of spiritual growth with simplicity. In defining these five
spiritual growth stages he informs the reader of their beliefs and how the local church
and a Christian community should implement a plan to help individuals to maturity
in reaching these stages: spiritually dead, spiritual infants, spiritual children, spiritual
young adults, and spiritual parents.
Spiritually dead the first stage comprising of sinners, unsaved
The Case Of Metallica V Napster
Copyright Stance With over three billion people in the world utilizing the internet
there is great danger for copyright infringement to occur (Internet Live Stats).
Copyright law protects the creator of an original piece of work exclusive rights to
the work. Many people who use the internet are sharing files that do not belong to
them and are guilty of copyrightinfringement. Copyright law needs to be tightened
up in the digital space to protect the creator of their unique work. In the case of
Metallica v Napster (2000), Metallica filed suit against Napster for infringing upon
their ownership of their unique music. The suit claims that Napster devised and
distributed software whose sole purpose is to permit Napster to profit by abetting
and encouraging piracy (Doan, 2000). The music was original and copyrighted by
Metallica. The Napster song downloads were being done without their consent or
royalties paid. The court ruled in favor of Metallica and eventaully shutting down
Napster for Copyright infringement. With technology so readily available there are
many people and companies who have participated in similar illegal activities. The
original copyright law did not take into consideration the digital area. By
implementing Digital Millennium Copyright Act(DMCA) it has tightened up the
protection of things online and in the digital arena.
The DMCA makes it illegal to circumvent digital rights management technology or to

Psychology As A Modern Science
Authored by Keith E. Stanovich, How to Think Straight About Psychology is a
known work of the psychology world which was published in 1986. Beginning
courses in psychology use his text frequently. Stanovich primary purpose for writing
the text is to bring attention to his observation that the public s understanding of
psychology is different from psychology as a modern science. Psychology as a
modern science explains the underlying functions that shape human attitudes and
behavior. To the people who misunderstand this, the field of psychology is not a
real science, but a pseudo science instead. How to Think Straight About
Psychology describes people s several false impressions of psychology and it gives
its readers a factual understanding of the field as a modern and scientific
psychology while explaining how this science works. In chapter one, Stanovich
argues for a psychology supported by scientific research. He begins with The
Freud Problem, a general outlook on psychology that primarily consists of Freudian
style psychoanalysis. Sigmund Freud was an Austrian neurologist best known for
developing the theories and techniques of psychoanalysis. He is seen as the father
of psychology. Freud based his approach to psychology on his own developed
theories. Freud responded to the public s misconception about psychology in a
general way. He took notes about the several fields that existed in psychology. There
is over fifty different divisions in psychology with psychoanalysis
Essay about Serial Killers Modus Operandi
Serial Killers Modus Operandi A plethora of serial killers, dead and undead, have
been most horrifying in their methods. There are several types of serial killers, some
have been caught while others continue to haunt their surroundings. There are several
approaches in categorizing serial killers. One method requires examination of the
crime scene, the other requires counseling with the serial killer. In profiling a serial
killer, law enforcers realize that serial killers are not unlike regular people; there are
several exceptions like schizophrenics but most of them look like everyone else.

Jeff Lindsay describes this voice as the dark passenger in his famous Dexter series of
novels; a voice that cannot be ignored. David Berkowitz, also known as Son of Sam,
claims that a demon gave him orders to kill via a neighbor s dog. Berkowitz is
regarded as an act focused serial killer, more specifically, a visionary. Process
focused is composed of hedonists, who kill for pleasures lust, thrill, and gain and
power seeking killers who wish to control, with a predilection to manipulate
mortality. As special as serial killers are, they often fall into more than one
category, Berkowitz for example was also a thrill killer who enjoyed the
excitement of the kill. Berkowitz is distinguished as a hedonistic and a visionary
serial killer. An example for a power seeking serial killer would be Ted Bundy who
sought to control women by raping them, although rape is characterized as a
lustful act, it is also seen as a way as controlling by coercing, thus power seeking.
Both types include a rife amount of serial killers. There are many types of serial

found in serial killers are broken down into organized or disorganized. For
example, an organized serial killer is known to maintain angelic hygiene and
practices diligent homemaking, whereas a disorganized serial killer lacks in those
areas. John Wayne Gacy, also known as the killer clown, is considered to be an

The Indian National Congress ( Inc )
In May 2014, Indian politics took a historic step into a new direction. Since the
beginning of Indian independence from Great Britain, there have been two
dominant political parties that controlled progression of the nation. The Indian
National Congress (INC), one of those parties, was led by the Gandhi family
predominantly. The Bharatiya Janata Party, or BJP, contrasted the INC in almost
every possible way. Nationalist leaders emerged from the working class and
opposed INC actions. These two parties rotate in and out of power. The election in
May 2014 resulted in a huge win for the BJP. Manmohan Singh, the previous Prime
Minister and member of the INC, relinquished control of the Parliament. The ten year
INC control of Parliament was officially ended in 2014. The relationship between the
INC and BJP has been very similar to the relationship between Democrats and
Republicans in the United States. Unfortunately, the rift has caused a lot of
differences in platform focus. The INC promotes a globalized nation with
international ties to strong and dominant countries. For example, Manmohan Singh,
worked very closely with the United States to increase Indias nuclear power. The BJP
has different priorities. They are wedded to India s unity and integrity, its intrinsic
identity and the social strength, individual character and cultural uniqueness that
have been the hallmark of this great country and its people for millennia (BJP, 2014).
The BJP focuses on the cultural

Here are how the sections are laid out. Section 302 requires corporate management to

If you look around at college parties it seems as if everyone is drinking. Actually
you are probably right, but over half of those people drinking are also under the
legal drinking age. Drinking is one of the main forms of entertainment for the
typical college student. The only problem with drinking being the main form of
entertainment is that half of the students in college or 20 years or younger. This
seems to be a problem all over the country and a debate has started to see whether or
not lowering the drinking age would be a reasonable solution to keep students from
over drinking.

There are many other reasons as to why lowering the legal drinking age is being
considered other then that students between the age of 18 and 20 on college
campuses want the privilege to drink. More serious cases such as that of Mr.
Cureton, an 18 year old freshman at the University of North Carolina whom was
arrested for driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.14. Mr. Cureton was almost
double the legal limit, 0.08 percent, serving as a major hazard to other drivers on

they may try to drive themselves, resulting in more damage then they may realize at
the time. But if the drinking age was lowered then they student would not get into
legal trouble for calling a parent or another adult for a ride home.
Fraternities seem to be having the most problems with the legal drinking age being

It Is Easier To Create A Dystopian Society
A dystopia is a place full of contempt, agony and is in no way a mediocre society
which we live in today. People in a dystopia are similar to a bunch of marionette
puppets; they are told how to live their life and are always controlled by a greater
power. The protagonist always tries to defeat or defy the person or object of higher
power in order to create a healthier society. Furthermost works of literature are
based off of dystopian societies since it s easier to write about; it has added feelings
and emotion that create a fantastic read. Dystopian societies have an enormous
amount of convolutions in the way of life. You are able to put additional emotions
and deep feelings in the story in order to make it interesting and an addicting,
readable piece of literature.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A dystopia is very much easier to relate to than a utopia. As a writer, you need your
reader to be able to relate to the piece you write. When that happens then you are
able to hook new people into reading your stories and listen to what you need to
say. For the people who can t relate to the story, nonetheless still love reading these
types of stories are usually the people who appreciate reading about a dystopia
since it makes them feel superior about their life or some people just adore reading
about a dystopia other than a utopia. It could also be that they are in a rough point in
time; therefore they read sad books and listen to agonizing songs to aid them through
a difficult and rough stage in their
Use Of Upper Atmospheric Density Models
The use of upper atmospheric density models is essential for orbit determination
and geophysical research. This data plays an important role in understanding the
exosphere, and can contribute to monitoring of next solar cycle. One of the major
applications of studying upper atmospheric density models and their changes with
the solar cycles is to track and identify active satellites as well as debris in the low
earth orbit (LEO) and other higher orbits. Collision avoidance and reentry
prediction for large debris and satellites are important data which can be derived as
a result of precise estimation of drag. For satellites meant to be in its orbit for a
significant time, it is important to know when the satellites need a drag make up
maneuver, and also for mission planning. This section talks about the densitymodels
developed from the dawn of space race to 2012, and the drawbacks of these models,
also listing some popular incidents in the past which indicates problems in drag
estimation.
All the major applications of upper atmospheric models can be summarized in three
major points: precision orbit determination, debris characterization, and investigation
of geophysical phenomena. Among the above three, the first two applications are
considered time critical. The data has to be available within hours to be useful
enough for these two applications. There have been numerous upper atmospheric
models developed, but the major ones are listed below [14]:

Songs That Have Stood the Test of Time and Geography
Part 1 Background and Identification There are quite a number of songs that have
stood the test of time and geography to remain as vital and popular today as they
were when first composed. Perhaps it is because some of these songs simply
transcend time and place and appeal to the core of human emotion. Who cannot feel a
thrill of excitement and humanity at the finale of Beethoven s 9th Symphony, or shed
a tear at a favorite Christmas carol? One song that fits this transcendence is La Vie
En Rose, literally, Life in Pink. This was first made popular in 1946 by French
torch singer Edith Piaf. Translated from the French idiom, the piece means seeing
life through rose colored glasses, rather perfect for Piaff s life and vocal talent, and
even more perfect for a world turned upside down because of World War II. At first,
Piaf s colleagues and team did not think the song would be at all successful, yet it
became a favorite with audiences around the world, and Piaf s signature song (Bret,
2009). The song quickly became so popular it was translated into several languages,
and then the greatest compliment of all imitated by singers in many different
genres. Ironic since the words were almost hastily scribbled on a cocktail napkin
while Piaf was drinking with her friend Marianne Michel at a cafГѓ on the Champs
Elysees (Burke, 2011, p. 118). Also, besides over 50 artists interpreting and
recording the work, it was recently made into a stage play and surprisingly successful
The Effects Of Prenatal Pregnancy On Pregnancy
The perinatal adversities seen in women with LMW highlights a nutritional or
constitutional mechanism of these complications. The data by Ehrenberg et.al (2003)
suggests that the contribution of maternal weight gain in pregnancy is a predominant
influence among complications such as prematurity, preterm labor, and LBW .
Weight gained in pregnancycan be considered a crucial predictor of adverse outcomes
than weight or BMI at delivery (Ehrenberg et.al 2003). Inadequate GWG in pregnancy
may bring forth nutritional deficiencies that increases the predisposition to preterm
delivery (Ehrenberg et.al 2003). In terms of prematurity, Ehrenberg et.al (2003) found
that the effect of GWG during pregnancy is greater than the influence of... Show more

LBW and impaired growth of the fetus in individuals with eating disorders could be
prompted by weight controlling behavior (such as strict dieting, vomiting, and
excessive physical exercise that leads to undernourishment) and compromised flow of
essential nutrients in the maternal blood to the fetus (Sollid et.al.,2004). Malnutrition
may also have a strenuous effect on the immune system, impairing its function
leading to higher risks of maternal infectious of diseases that also further initiate
preterm delivery (Sollid et.al.,2004). In addition to the perils of malnutrition and
behavioral elements, the excessive consumption and use of laxatives, diuretics, and
appetite suppressants in some women with eating disorders may have a teratogenic
effect (Sollid et.al., 2004). In essence, the amalgamation of undernourishment, weight
controlling behavior, and low pre pregnancy BMI in women with eating disorders can
severely interfere with neonatal health and pregnancy outcomes.
Spontaneous abortion is another phenomenon experienced by pregnant women that
affects the general population. Ballsells, Garcia Patterson, and Corcoy (2016) have
found a link between underweight women and miscarriage. They concluded that
maternal underweight is associated with a slightly increased risk of clinical
miscarriage, similar
Our Secret by Susan Griffin Essay
Susan Griffin s Our Secret is a study in psychology. It is a look into the human
mind to see what makes people do the things they do and in particular what makes
people commit acts of violence. She isolates the first half of the twentieth century
and in particular the era of the Second World War as a basis for her study. The essay
discusses a number of people but they all tie in to Heinrich Himmler. He is the
extreme case, he who can be linked directly to every single death in the
concentration camps. Griffin seeks to examine Himmler because if she can discern a
monster like Himmler than everyone else simply falls into place. The essay also tries
to deduce why something like the Holocaust, although never mentioned directly, can

The earliest entries in this diary betray so little. Like the words of a schoolboy
commanded to write what the teacher requires of him, they are wooden and stiff.
The stamp of his father s character is so heavy on this language that I catch not even
a breath of a self here. (Griffin 407 408)
He became a man who thought not for himself but preferred to have others give
him commands. That is why he rose to power in the Nazi party, he did not question
orders but rather thrived on them. Following Hitler with unwavering loyalty, he is
known as der treur Heinrich, true Heinrich. He describes himself as an instrument
of the Fuhrer s will (Griffin 421). Did the violence in Himmler stem from his
adoration of his brother, the perfect physical specimen. Heinrich tried his whole
life to be like his older brother, strong and masculine. So much so that while
serving as Reichsfuhrer he devised a set of standards for the Aryan Race to live up
to. One could argue that these standards were modeled after his brother. Himmler s
belief in physical superiority led to the suppression and deaths of many who did
not measure up which is ironic because Himmler himself was frail and did not meet
any of his own standards. Influenza struck Himmler as a child which prevented him
from becoming strong as an adult. Compared with his brother he is weak. He sees
his brother and how popular he is. This led Himmler to associate the two

  • 3. authors who wrote first five books of the Bible Essay Documentary hypothesis says that there were several authors who wrote first five books of the Bible. In my essay I will try to discuss J, P, and E authors of Genesis, Exodus and Numbers. I must admit that all these authors had lived after the division of the kingdom. AUTHOR J This author was identified as J for using word Yahweh or Jehovahfor the name of God. Also there is an interesting theory that author J was a woman. Of course, there are statements that prove it. First of all I want pay your attention on the fact that we are speaking about patriarchal society where a man was a head of the family and the role of a woman was to give a birth to children. But in the Bible we can find verses and even whole chapters that tell us about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That s why Judah is the main character in all stories of J. For example: in Gen.37:26 27 he proposes to sell Joseph, then in Gen.43:3 10 Judah persuades Israel to send Benjamin with him and guarantees his safety. And one more interesting thing is that although Judah was only the fourth son, in Gen.49:8 Israel says that his brothers will praise and bow down to him. So in such a way he gets a birthright. Also Jerusalem and Ark of the Covenant (a sign to the people that God is with them) are very important for J (2 Samuel 5,6). I want to emphasize that political and religious systems were very close in that time: J never mentioned Joshua in her passages because he is from Ephraim (Jeroboam is from Ephraim) and in Num.25:1 5 J writes that men from Israel began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women and God said Moses to kill them. This is political decision because Moabites were enemies of Israel. Also J author has several trademarks . First of all, God in her passages is always anthropomorphic, it means that all action He is doing by His hands. This is shown in creation story: Gen.2:7 LORD God formed the man , in Gen.2:21 He took one of the man s ribs and in Gen.3:8 He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day . And now I d like to talk about doublets. Besides creation story, we also have two flood stories (J says that rain lasted 40 days), two stories when Abraham says that Sarah is his sister (J
  • 4. The Four Freedoms Speech On June 6, 1941, United States President Franklin Delano Roosevelt made a speech that has since been known as The Four Freedoms Speech. In this speech, he outlines four freedoms he hopes every person in the world will obtain in the future. He identifies the four freedoms as the following: ...Freedom of speech and expression everywhere in the world... freedom of every person to worship God in his own way everywhere in the world... freedom from want which, translated into world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants everywhere in the world... freedom from fear which, translated into world terms, means a world wide reduction of armaments to such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbor anywhere in the world. Over 75 years later, we still do not have the freedoms President Roosevelt wished upon us. A specific freedom that still does not exist is economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants. There are still dozens of poverty stricken countries, known as Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC). These are countries that have a national debt that is unmanageable with traditional manners alone. The good news is that the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries Initiative began in 1996 to address this issue. The World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMC), and other creditors teamed up to reduce the debt of 36 countries that met strict criteria. In order to be considered for assistance, countries must have an unsustainable amount of debt, be eligible for interest free loans from the World Bank s International Development Agency, have a good track record of reform through World Bank supported programs, and have completed a Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP). After a country shows that they have met this criteria and continues to meet it and follow through with with their strategy, then they are deemed capable of earning their complete amount of debt relief funds. As of 2015, all 36 of the heavily indebted poor countries have received their full amount of debt relief they were

  • 9. A Critique of Chapter 11 in Neil Postman s Technopoly Essay A Critique of Chapter 11 in Neil Postman s Technopoly In chapter 11 (The Loving Resistance Fighter) of the book Technopoly, published in 1992, Neil Postman focuses on a solution to the problems created by Technopoly. A Technopoly (a word postman capitalizes throughout the book) is a society that no longer merely uses technology as a support system but instead is shaped by it. Postman proposes that we become loving resistance fighter(s) who retain the narratives and symbols that once made the United States the hope of the world (p.182). He believes education is to lead the resistance against technology by changing the curriculum to help restore a sense of meaning and purpose lost to the Technopoly.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In chapter 11 Postman gives examples of people who resist the American Technopoly. An example of a resistance fighter is a person who ignores a poll unless they know the questions asked and why. As Postman introduced in chapter 8 ( Invisible Technologies ), the form of a question can produce many different answers. It may also restrict us from seeing solutions to problems that may become visible through a question worded differently. Postman shares the story of two priests who write the Pope asking if it was allowable to smoke and pray at the same time. One priest phrased the question Is it permissible to smoke while praying? and the response was no because praying should be the focus of ones attention; the other priest asked Is it permissible to pray while smoking? and the response was yes, since it is always appropriate to pray. The opinion of almost any issue is a function of the question asked. In the American Technopoly the opinion poll is a strict yes or no answer to an unexamined question. One is therefore unable to share their knowledge and is easily mislead to answer a question in a certain way. Another example of a resistance fighter is a person who does not allow psychology or any social science to pre empt the language and thought of common sense. This example clearly relates to chapter 9 ( Scientism ), in which Postman expresses his annoyance of the many people who have a strong

This quote made by Gene encapsulates the major role World War II plays in A Separate Peace. John Knowles, the author, utilizes the war as a spectacular backdrop for his novel. In fact, without World WarII, this book would just be another story lost in the churn of the millions of novels published. Probably the most obvious of these characters who were impacted by the World War II was Leper. The innocent of the class, Leper never knew what he was getting into when he enlisted to ski in the war. Leper s life is then turned upside down, and he goes completely crazy. Without the war, Leper s character would need to be developed in some alternative way. Brinker also completely changes and manipulates his actions as a consequence of this war. Known formerly as the most responsible, respectable leader on campus at Devon, Brinker morphs into a character that seems particularly indifferent and downright rebellious. Knowles indirectly characterizes him through Gene s thoughts, mentioning that Brinker the Lawgiver had turned rebel for the Duration (122). It is very difficult for one to say that without the war, Brinker would select the path of rebellion, rather than stay serious and have a possibly brighter future. Finally, Gene is not only affected by his internal struggles but also the struggle that is going on overseas as he completes his years at Devon. Like most things that happen in the protagonist s life, Gene is never concrete on his stance or the following actions he should take on these. He desires to lose his old, murky life in
  • 11. How Business Has Affected Sports Throughout the ages sport has always taken some form, whether it was to train the armies during the medieval era to the current explosion that has become the global football industry. This essay will discuss whether or not sport has become a subject that is no longer just about itself, but has gained a heavy focus on business more so than itself. To do this, the essay will look at how business has affected two sports sectors and their elite level of sport, by delving into the way in which it has affected the English Premier League(Football) and the National Football League (American Football). If you were to go and ask a random person on the street to name a sport that they know, the likelihood of them replying with football would be up there with one of the top group of responses, as in recent years it has experienced a high growth rate in terms of money invested and global participators. When looking at this from an outside angle however, the question is whether or not these recently formed teams and leagues have been created for the love or the sport, or have they seen the potential to earn a high level of revenue and have taken the route of making it a business venture? To provide background in order to formulate and answer to this question we can look at the history of the English game and the formational of the globally recognised Premier League . In the 1991 1992 emerged victorious against all their rivals and won the English First Division for the

In the novel, Run with the Horsemen, Porter fights his way through adolescence and the depression, learning more about life every day from the big boys under the tree at lunch. Ferrol Sams is able to portray a realistic account of life on a farm during the depression by using humor, dialect, and vivid imagery. Although the members of the Osborne family speak properly, the farm hands (who were, up until a short time before the novel, slaves), speak in a southern dialect which portrays them as uneducated. A good example of this is when Buddy pleads with Porter to, Keep yo head down, Sambo! For God s sake, keep yo head down an be stiller n you ever been in yo life befo! The same words are used as would be used by an educated person, only they are shortened or run together. The vivid imagery used throughout the novel allows the reader to have a better idea of what life was like. The summer plowing is said to have a rhythm that is almost musical, The stride of a man matched that of a mule in a one plane dance down a cotton row with ears of the mule plunging forward then backward in unison with the pull of the forelegs, now the hind legs, as the heavy plow was dragged smoothly through the whispering earth. This passage allows the reader to imagine the rhythm of the plowing, which makes it seem more real than just saying that the mule plowed up and down the row. All this plowing happened as, Over and above and beyond and around could be heard bird song. The imagery of a man plowing in the heat with birds

Through the course of our lives, we grow and shape our ideal life, but often life completely alters the course which you yearn for it to follow. Often, life is filled with unexpected surprises, both resulting in either negative or positive outcomes. But, it is not simply these instances that shape us, but our response to them and the choices we make. Throughout my life, I have been face to face with critical circumstances regarding my health, five of which left me in the hospital. These were some of the most challenging times of my life, not only in the injuries and illnesses I faced, but in the following adjustments which followed. When I was two, I suffered a very chronic case of RSV, which later caused me to contract asthma. This kept me indoors, surrounded by my nebulizers, and my books. I was instructed to wash my hands one afternoon, and being the obedient, independent child I was, I did just that. I climbed atop my white footstool, reached for the soap, dispensed a drop and washed my hands. I noticed that the soap was at its initial position, the spring was outstretched once more, and the soap was no longer coming from the mouth of the dispensing tube. I had to know why! But at the end true colors are revealed. Illusion verses reality is one of the many themes expressed in Othello by William Shakespeare. There are many examples shown through the character Othellowhere the misconception of illusionand reality leads to misfortune. This is displayed when Othello develops an outrageous jealousy due to Iago manipulating him, or when there s irrelevant hatred created between Othello and Cassio because of these manipulations. When Iago s schemes work it fools Othello s gullible personality, resulting in him doubting his love for Desdemona. William Shakespeare... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to Iago s perception of Othello being naГЇve, Iago uses his phenomenal understanding of the human psyche as his ability to orchestrate pre planned scenarios. Iago is successfully and carefully able to manipulate Othello s thoughts into thinking Desdemona has been unfaithful and that it was false love. I called my love false love, but what he said then? (IV, iii, 59) This is significant because Desdemona is beginning to realize that the love Othello had for her must have been false she s worried that Othello will leave her. Due to Othello s inability to differentiate between delusion and reality it s bringing forth disaster leading to their relationship suffering. Othello being able to trust people easily allowed Iago s words to manipulate him into making a tremendously poor decision which was killing Desdemona. Put out the light, and then put out the light, (V,ii, 7) This quote is paramount because Othello blows out the candle just before he strangles Desdemona which symbolizes Desdemona s fragile life and because he is so manipulated by Iago there is no turning back and he is ready to kill her. Othello muses that the difference between Desdemona s life and a candle s light is that he can put out and relight the candle but he cannot bring Desdemona back to life. The thought of not being able to bring Desdemona back to life did not stop him from murdering Desdemona,

In actuality, people spend a considerable part of their life while watching television and surfing Internet. At the same time, today, mass media become more and more diverse offering the audience different products in order to attract a possibly larger amount of viewers. In such a situation, many companies operating in entertainment industry and television attempt to conduct marketing researches and develop effective marketing strategies to introduce their products to the mass audience. For this purpose, they use a variety of tools, such as questionnaires, audience measurements, ratings, face to face interviews and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, the Internet allows journalists to communicate with their audience. What is meant here is the fact that unlike other mass media, the Internet is truly interactive to the extent that journalists and audience can exchange ideas freely without any significant limitations. For instance, journalists can receive a feedback from the audience in a matter of minutes after the material they have prepared is published on the web. In such a way, journalists can receive the feedback from the audience and develop their professional work taking into consideration needs and wants of the audience or simply sharing their ideas with the audience attempting to persuade the audience, and so on. In other words, the Internet is becomes not just a means of bombardment of the audience with information that leads to the overwhelming impact of media on the consciousness of people. Instead, the Internet becomes the means of communication between the audience and journalists. The commercialization of modern media affects the work of journalists and the development of mass media at large. In this respect, it should be said that some specialists have a very interesting and original view on the influence of advertising and mass media on consumers and on consumers themselves. For instance, Naom Chomsky treats consumers as product. In order to understand his point of view it would be enough to study
  • 20. Juvenile Offenders With Substance Abuse Problems This paper will discuss some of the treatment options available for juvenile offenders with substance abuse problems. The paper will contain explanations of the available programs, how they work, who is eligible for them, and other factors. After discussing how the programs work this paper will then take a look at which programs seem to be working and lessening recidivism and which ones may not be as effective. In the past several years researchers have found intervention strategies and program models that hope to prevent juvenile delinquency and promote good social attitudes and development (Greenwood, 2008). More than 1,000,000 adolescents go through the American Criminal court system every year and of those approximately 160,000 juvenile offenders are sent to juvenile placement centers (Henggeler Schoenwald, 2011). The U.S. criminal justice system has been wise enough to realize that treatment programs need to be implemented in order to lessen recidivism in these young offenders and help ensure that they go on to live healthy productive lives. Officials within the court system must weigh the interests of public safety with the needs of the young offender when deciding which program is best for the juvenile and which level of restriction is required (Austin, Johnson, Weitzer, 2011). An example of this idea would be that a juvenile offender who has committed a violent and/or serious crimemay need to be confined in order to protect the safety of the public and/or
  • 21. Reliability of a Narrator in Literature Essay Stories are often told by a narrator giving his/her point of view, by using omniscient, limited omniscient, or first person. The purpose of the narrator is to give facts and details, being reliable or not. Three stories we have read in class are The Body, by Stephen King, Defender of the Faith, by Philip Roth, and Everyday Use, by Alice Walker; which give examples of a reliable narrator. Each narrator was a reliable source of information, and told his/her story well. Stephen King s. The Body, was an excellent representation of first person point of view narration. The main protagonist, Gordie, was not only the narrator but a major character. Gordie told the story as an adult looking back on his childhood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no need for him to embellish the truth, because each event could be altered slightly by one of the other characters. Defender of the Faith, by Philip Roth, is a story in which the narrator becomes involved with the main protagonist of the story. This story is a good example of reliable narration, in that, Sergeant Marx goes through a life altering experience. Through his learning, he shows the reader that each event could have taken place. Marx has not acknowledged his religious differences until the first conversation with Sheldon Grossbart. You can stay and scrub floors or you can go to shul, this is the first recognition of Marx s religion (Arp 118). Given that Sergeant Marx is Jewish, we are able to pick out what is true about the religion and what is false. Marx points out more than one situation where he is manipulated for the benefit of Private Sheldon Grossbart. In doing this, he is letting the reader into his personal experience, regardless of what criticism he may receive. Everyday Use, by Alice Walker, was an extraordinary use of first person narration. At first, I had no idea where this story was going to take the reader. The narrator was passionate of her convictions about her eldest daughter. The narrator felt more bonded with the younger daughter, because she was willing to stay behind in the unchanging environment. The narrator showed disappointment when the
  • 22. Law Of Gratitude Essay 8.The Law of Gratitude: The Law of Gratitude plays out similar to the Law of Cause and Effect or the natural principle of action and reaction. As we look at the law itself, when we express thankfulness to the God Force for that which we have received (even though it is still in the unseen), it is an expenditure of force, therefore our gratitudecannot fail to reach God, and when it does the reaction is an instantaneous move toward you. Consider two properly aligned magnets. They are two forces moving in opposite directions while moving toward one another. Gratitude draws you and the Creative Force, God, directly toward each other. If our gratitude is strong enough and consistent then there will always be a move of that which we are co creating toward us. When the God Force moves toward us it brings all that it is. The Law of Gratitude also dictates that if our heart is not full of gratitude, then something else will take its place. Physics teaches that nature will not tolerate a vacuum. That is to say that if something is removed then something else must take its place. If our hearts are not filled with gratitude, then our hearts will be filled with ungratefulness. An ungrateful heart will take you from what you want as rapidly as a grateful heart will take you toward what you want. The Law of Gratitude nourishes our faith, because as a grateful heart and mind continually expects good things, expectation becomes faith. This faith then, becomes both the cornerstone and the capstone of what it is we are building which comes only from our Universal Supplier, God. Gratitude toward God has the power... Characteristics and Impacts of American Reconstruction Essay Characteristics and Impacts of American Reconstruction The key goals of Reconstruction were to readmit the South into the Union and to define the status of freedmen in American society. The Reconstruction era was marked by political, not violent, conflict. Some historical myths are that the South was victimized by Reconstruction, and that the various plans of Reconstruction were corrupt and unjust. Actually, the plans were quite lenient, enforcing military rule for only a short period of time, ignoring land reform, and granting pardons easily. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Under Johnson s plan, fifty percent of the voters in each Southern state who had voted in the 1860 election had to take an oath of loyalty to the Union. Then, each state was required to write new constitutions adopting the 13th amendment (Boyer, 444). Johnson repudiated Confederate war debts, and he also supported Black Codes. Johnson seemed sympathetic to Southern opinion at the expense of freedmen s rights. He took steps to insure a dependant black work force for the South, and restricted the rights of African Americans . Freedmen were not allowed to marry interracially, perform jury duty, or give testimony in court against whites. Johnson s plan was fatally flawed; his requirement that each state adopt the 13th amendment was practically useless as it only dealt with Federal elections. State elections were more important to citizens during the Reconstruction era, and unless Johnson guaranteed State voting rights to freedmen he was offering them hardly anything at all. Also, Johnson supported Black Codes against Northern public opinion, which damaged him politically in the North. Finally, Johnson did not deal with land reform or economic aid, which was economically unsound. In Congress, the Radicals and Moderates were forced to join forces to overturn Johnson s extremely lenient plan. Caught up in battles with Congress and an impeachment scandal until he left office, Johnson did not achieve his Reconstruction goals. Congress
  • 25. Urinalysis Informative Speech Outline Hello Mrs. Graham Ma, I heard from your grandson that you needed an explanation about your urinalysis. First off a urinalysis is a an examination of your urine to see if you have diabetes, an infection, any issues with your liver, and any problems with your kidneys. The first thing examined is the colorof your urine. Since the color is amber, that is a good sign its normal. One particular issue that I see with your urinalysis is that it is turbid. Turbid means there are things that make your urine cloudy, generally because of your body fighting an infection or because your body maybe getting rid of stored materials. Since your WBC esterase ,an enzyme usually found in your immune cells is negative, that means your body isn t necessarily... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since your glucose or sugar in your urine is negative that is a good sign that you don t have diabetes. Additionally the lab checked for ketones which is produced when your bodies breaks down fat. Usually your body will break down fat if it is not breaking down enough sugar. As you know the body uses insulin to break down the sugar, so checking for this is a good indication that you are producing enough insulin. A third part to your urinalysis is to check for the kidneyfunction itself. Occult blood is due to the kidneys not filtering out the red blood cells and thus blood would be found in the urine. This value is negative which means that you probably don t have any kidney problems. Other indications of kidney functions in the urine are whether or not there is protein in the urine. Proteins such a albumin should not be going through the kidneys and into the urine because they are used to keep a balance in your body. Therefore, proteins upset the balance when they leave through the kidneys. Since you are negative for protein in the urine, you definitely don t have kidney issues. Your liver function can also be measured by a urinalysis because of bilirubin, and uribilinogen. When your body breaks down old red blood cells they form bilirubin, which goes through the liver. That bilirubin is then converted to urobilinogen, which is 0.0 in your analysis. The fact that these values are both negative and 0.0,

In spite of this, through pottery analysis, archaeologists are able to learn about different aspects of the site. Nonetheless, Caesarea Maritima has a variety of specific challenges associated with it for archaeologists. Not only does it cover a significant section of the coastal region, but the immense harbour, over time, has been completely submerged in the sea. As it was continuously inhabited, the archaeological layers contain the remnants of many different cultures.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the site of Tell el Hesi, Petrie noticed specific styles of pottery at different stages of the dig (Petrie 1890). By a comparison of the different pottery forms with similar pieces dated from previous sites, Petrie was able to date the surrounding material through the pottery. Significantly, by studying the pottery forms, Petrie created an association between specific dates and forms of pottery (Petrie 1891) thus created a chronology which revolutionised the archaeology of the Levant. To give an illustration of the impact which Petrie s discovery has had upon archaeology in the Levant, his chronology has been used on archaeological sites in the region throughout the past century (Cole 1984; Tushingham 1986). In Caesarea Maritima Petrie s discovery of dating a site through the pottery has assisted with dating both the city and the harbour of Sebastos. In the harbour, the discovery of pottery was interpreted as evidence that the city was importing goods via sea trade, during the 3rd century AD (Hohlfelder 1988). While excavating Caesarea Maritima the Department of Antiquities in Israel discovered that an area they were excavating was abandoned during the Arab conquest (Yeivin 1955, p. 123). Yet, because there was evidence of pottery from the eighth and ninth centuries in addition to some lamps, it was evidence that after the site had been abandoned it was resettled. Because of the discovery of Mameluke pottery, it became apparent that the site was superceded during the Crusader period (Yeivin 1955, p. 123). Petrie s discovery of the association between pottery and dating, therefore, has assisted in the archaeology of Caesarea

Aristotelian View Of Virtue In Electrical Engineering In this paper, an Aristotelian view of virtue will be applied to electrical engineering, with an emphasis on my subfield of embedded systems. Two virtues have been selected as being particularly relevant to the field of electrical engineering. These virtues, inspired by items in the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) code of ethics, are the pursuit of continued education and the honest representation of data. The IEEE code of ethics was selected due to IEEE s relevance to the field of electrical engineeringas well as its position as the largest technical professional organization. 1 Aristotle s ethical views were based around humanity pursuing a good life, or Eudaimonia. Aristotle defines eudaimonia as happiness, and postulates that it is the end goal of people.2 Eudaimonia is realized by acting virtuously. Aristotle s view on virtues is that they are what make things exceptional. For example, a knife is exceptional, or virtuous, if it is an excellent knife. The virtues for a knife might be sharpness, ergonomics, and being otherwise well designed for its task. Likewise, virtues for humans are what make them outstanding specimens . Aristotle divided these human virtues into two groups: virtues of thought and virtues of character. Virtues of thought are intellectual virtues 2 and involve the part of the soul that engages in reasoning 2. This includes virtues like prudence, the ability to reason, and grasping the nature of things. 3 Conversely,

Disciple Of The Local Church DISCIPLE MAKING IN THE LOCAL CHURCH A Written Assignment 3 Cynthia Taylor DSMN 500 B10 September, 2014 SUMMARY According to Early Dempsey, a disciple is a person, while discipleship is a process. A disciple is a passionate follower of Jesus Christ who is intimately involved in the mission of Christ. On the other hand, discipleship is the process of moving the disciple towards spiritual maturity and the mission of Christ. Being a disciple is God s perfect will for every individual life; however, discipleship is God s will for every individual church [1] The Great Commission denotes that disciples must be made. Many worship opportunities have been provided by the church such as fellowship, bible study and church events that will aid in developing the mind set of Christ, being obedient to the commands of Christ, engaging in his commission and being transformed into His image. According to Jesus disciples need to be made and informed. How disciple are made? According to Disciple Shift, pastor and author Jim Putman describes diverse stages of spiritual growth with simplicity. In defining these five spiritual growth stages he informs the reader of their beliefs and how the local church and a Christian community should implement a plan to help individuals to maturity in reaching these stages: spiritually dead, spiritual infants, spiritual children, spiritual young adults, and spiritual parents. Spiritually dead the first stage comprising of sinners, unsaved

Many people who use the internet are sharing files that do not belong to them and are guilty of copyrightinfringement. Copyright law needs to be tightened up in the digital space to protect the creator of their unique work. In the case of Metallica v Napster (2000), Metallica filed suit against Napster for infringing upon their ownership of their unique music. The suit claims that Napster devised and distributed software whose sole purpose is to permit Napster to profit by abetting and encouraging piracy (Doan, 2000). The music was original and copyrighted by Metallica. The Napster song downloads were being done without their consent or royalties paid. The court ruled in favor of Metallica and eventaully shutting down Napster for Copyright infringement. Beginning courses in psychology use his text frequently. Stanovich primary purpose for writing the text is to bring attention to his observation that the public s understanding of psychology is different from psychology as a modern science. Psychology as a modern science explains the underlying functions that shape human attitudes and behavior. To the people who misunderstand this, the field of psychology is not a real science, but a pseudo science instead. How to Think Straight About Psychology describes people s several false impressions of psychology and it gives its readers a factual understanding of the field as a modern and scientific psychology while explaining how this science works. In chapter one, Stanovich argues for a psychology supported by scientific research. He begins with The Freud Problem, a general outlook on psychology that primarily consists of Freudian style psychoanalysis. Sigmund Freud was an Austrian neurologist best known for developing the theories and techniques of psychoanalysis. He is seen as the father of psychology. Freud based his approach to psychology on his own developed theories. Freud responded to the public s misconception about psychology in a general way. He took notes about the several fields that existed in psychology. There is over fifty different divisions in psychology with psychoanalysis

  • 39. It Is Easier To Create A Dystopian Society A dystopia is a place full of contempt, agony and is in no way a mediocre society which we live in today. People in a dystopia are similar to a bunch of marionette puppets; they are told how to live their life and are always controlled by a greater power. The protagonist always tries to defeat or defy the person or object of higher power in order to create a healthier society. Furthermost works of literature are based off of dystopian societies since it s easier to write about; it has added feelings and emotion that create a fantastic read. Dystopian societies have an enormous amount of convolutions in the way of life. You are able to put additional emotions and deep feelings in the story in order to make it interesting and an addicting, readable piece of literature.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A dystopia is very much easier to relate to than a utopia. As a writer, you need your reader to be able to relate to the piece you write. When that happens then you are able to hook new people into reading your stories and listen to what you need to say. For the people who can t relate to the story, nonetheless still love reading these types of stories are usually the people who appreciate reading about a dystopia since it makes them feel superior about their life or some people just adore reading about a dystopia other than a utopia. It could also be that they are in a rough point in time; therefore they read sad books and listen to agonizing songs to aid them through a difficult and rough stage in their
  • 40. Use Of Upper Atmospheric Density Models The use of upper atmospheric density models is essential for orbit determination and geophysical research. This data plays an important role in understanding the exosphere, and can contribute to monitoring of next solar cycle. One of the major applications of studying upper atmospheric density models and their changes with the solar cycles is to track and identify active satellites as well as debris in the low earth orbit (LEO) and other higher orbits. Collision avoidance and reentry prediction for large debris and satellites are important data which can be derived as a result of precise estimation of drag. For satellites meant to be in its orbit for a significant time, it is important to know when the satellites need a drag make up maneuver, and also for mission planning. This section talks about the densitymodels developed from the dawn of space race to 2012, and the drawbacks of these models, also listing some popular incidents in the past which indicates problems in drag estimation. All the major applications of upper atmospheric models can be summarized in three major points: precision orbit determination, debris characterization, and investigation of geophysical phenomena. Among the above three, the first two applications are considered time critical. The data has to be available within hours to be useful enough for these two applications. There have been numerous upper atmospheric models developed, but the major ones are listed below [14]: COSPAR International
  • 41. Songs That Have Stood the Test of Time and Geography Part 1 Background and Identification There are quite a number of songs that have stood the test of time and geography to remain as vital and popular today as they were when first composed. Perhaps it is because some of these songs simply transcend time and place and appeal to the core of human emotion. Who cannot feel a thrill of excitement and humanity at the finale of Beethoven s 9th Symphony, or shed a tear at a favorite Christmas carol? One song that fits this transcendence is La Vie En Rose, literally, Life in Pink. This was first made popular in 1946 by French torch singer Edith Piaf. Translated from the French idiom, the piece means seeing life through rose colored glasses, rather perfect for Piaff s life and vocal talent, and even more perfect for a world turned upside down because of World War II. At first, Piaf s colleagues and team did not think the song would be at all successful, yet it became a favorite with audiences around the world, and Piaf s signature song (Bret, 2009). The song quickly became so popular it was translated into several languages, and then the greatest compliment of all imitated by singers in many different genres. Ironic since the words were almost hastily scribbled on a cocktail napkin while Piaf was drinking with her friend Marianne Michel at a cafГѓ on the Champs Elysees (Burke, 2011, p. 118). Also, besides over 50 artists interpreting and recording the work, it was recently made into a stage play and surprisingly successful
  • 42. The Effects Of Prenatal Pregnancy On Pregnancy The perinatal adversities seen in women with LMW highlights a nutritional or constitutional mechanism of these complications. The data by Ehrenberg et.al (2003) suggests that the contribution of maternal weight gain in pregnancy is a predominant influence among complications such as prematurity, preterm labor, and LBW . Weight gained in pregnancycan be considered a crucial predictor of adverse outcomes than weight or BMI at delivery (Ehrenberg et.al 2003). Inadequate GWG in pregnancy may bring forth nutritional deficiencies that increases the predisposition to preterm delivery (Ehrenberg et.al 2003). In terms of prematurity, Ehrenberg et.al (2003) found that the effect of GWG during pregnancy is greater than the influence of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... LBW and impaired growth of the fetus in individuals with eating disorders could be prompted by weight controlling behavior (such as strict dieting, vomiting, and excessive physical exercise that leads to undernourishment) and compromised flow of essential nutrients in the maternal blood to the fetus (Sollid et.al.,2004). Malnutrition may also have a strenuous effect on the immune system, impairing its function leading to higher risks of maternal infectious of diseases that also further initiate preterm delivery (Sollid et.al.,2004). In addition to the perils of malnutrition and behavioral elements, the excessive consumption and use of laxatives, diuretics, and appetite suppressants in some women with eating disorders may have a teratogenic effect (Sollid et.al., 2004). In essence, the amalgamation of undernourishment, weight controlling behavior, and low pre pregnancy BMI in women with eating disorders can severely interfere with neonatal health and pregnancy outcomes. Spontaneous abortion is another phenomenon experienced by pregnant women that affects the general population. Ballsells, Garcia Patterson, and Corcoy (2016) have found a link between underweight women and miscarriage. They concluded that maternal underweight is associated with a slightly increased risk of clinical miscarriage, similar
  • 43. Our Secret by Susan Griffin Essay Susan Griffin s Our Secret is a study in psychology. It is a look into the human mind to see what makes people do the things they do and in particular what makes people commit acts of violence. She isolates the first half of the twentieth century and in particular the era of the Second World War as a basis for her study. The essay discusses a number of people but they all tie in to Heinrich Himmler. He is the extreme case, he who can be linked directly to every single death in the concentration camps. Griffin seeks to examine Himmler because if she can discern a monster like Himmler than everyone else simply falls into place. The essay also tries to deduce why something like the Holocaust, although never mentioned directly, can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The earliest entries in this diary betray so little. Like the words of a schoolboy commanded to write what the teacher requires of him, they are wooden and stiff. The stamp of his father s character is so heavy on this language that I catch not even a breath of a self here. (Griffin 407 408) He became a man who thought not for himself but preferred to have others give him commands. That is why he rose to power in the Nazi party, he did not question orders but rather thrived on them. Following Hitler with unwavering loyalty, he is known as der treur Heinrich, true Heinrich. He describes himself as an instrument of the Fuhrer s will (Griffin 421). Did the violence in Himmler stem from his adoration of his brother, the perfect physical specimen. Heinrich tried his whole life to be like his older brother, strong and masculine. So much so that while serving as Reichsfuhrer he devised a set of standards for the Aryan Race to live up to. One could argue that these standards were modeled after his brother. Himmler s belief in physical superiority led to the suppression and deaths of many who did not measure up which is ironic because Himmler himself was frail and did not meet any of his own standards. Influenza struck Himmler as a child which prevented him from becoming strong as an adult. Compared with his brother he is weak. He sees his brother and how popular he is. This led Himmler to associate the two
