1. Writing A Personal Narrative Essay
Writing a personal narrative essay can be both challenging and rewarding. On one hand, it
requires delving deep into your own experiences and emotions, which can be a daunting task.
You need to find a compelling story to tell, one that is not only interesting to your audience but
also meaningful to you personally. This involves introspection and the ability to reflect on past
events in a way that provides insight or a lesson learned.
Crafting a narrative that is both engaging and coherent is another hurdle. You must structure
your essay in a way that grabs the reader's attention from the start, maintains their interest
throughout, and concludes with a satisfying resolution or takeaway. This requires skillful
storytelling and attention to detail, as well as a clear understanding of narrative techniques such
as pacing, characterization, and dialogue.
Moreover, writing about personal experiences can be emotionally taxing. It may require revisiting
painful memories or confronting difficult truths about yourself. This emotional investment adds
another layer of complexity to the writing process, as you must navigate the balance between
honesty and discretion, authenticity and vulnerability.
Despite these challenges, writing a personal narrative essay can also be incredibly rewarding. It
offers an opportunity for self-expression and self-discovery, allowing you to explore your own
identity, values, and beliefs through the lens of storytelling. It can foster empathy and
connection with your audience, as they relate to your experiences and gain insights into the
human condition.
In conclusion, writing a personal narrative essay is a demanding task that requires introspection,
storytelling skill, emotional resilience, and self-awareness. However, it is also a deeply rewarding
process that offers the opportunity for personal growth and connection with others.

2. Beloved
Slavery has been a vital part of America s history since it began in 1619. Such
history must be preserved in order to understand its ongoing influence in issues
today, but thousands of stories of those enslaved have been lost or forgotten in time.
Toni Morrison expresses why the narrative of slavery must be continued on by
integrating the life of Margaret Garner into her novel Beloved. In Beloved, Toni
Morrisonintertwines fiction with the story of Margaret Garner in order pass it on and
explore what might have been if the circumstances surrounding Garner had been
different.
Margaret Garner and Sethe s murder of their children happened very similarly, but
the reaction and the aftermath differed. In 1856, Margaret Garner killed her
youngest child, and went to trial as a result. The case garnered nationwide attention
and inspired sympathy for the abolitionist cause. Despite the support, Garner
struggles to process what she has done. She knows her child is dead, but she does
not accept that she murdered her. She remarks to a journalist you ... Show more

Her community shuns her, and even a trusted friend like Paul D says What you did
was wrong, Sethe. (Morrison 194) Margaret Garner was provided with sympathy
and support from her enslaved community that recognized her desperation and fear,
and outsiders that were inspired by the tragedy of her case. Sethe s peers share her
experiences with slavery, but are less compassionate in their response. She was
isolated from her neighbors because she killed Beloved. The act was seen as a sort of
betrayal to the community in which no one is left behind, even if they knew her
circumstances. The trauma behind the crime was acknowledged, but not understood.
Both Margaret Garner and Sethe experience immense stress in the aftermath of their
daughter s death, as people question whether or not what they did was right and
challenge why they committed the crime to begin

However, according to the Child Welfare information Gateway physical abuse is a
non accidental physical injury, ranging from minor bruises to severe fractures or
even death, that are inflicted on a child by the parent, care giver, or guardian of the
child ( Child Welfare Information Gateway). As for neglect, it is the failure to
provide for a child s basic needs, such as medical, educational, emotional, or physical

While boys and girls are equally as likely to be victims of abuse and neglect (in
2012, 48.5% of abused children were boys while 51.2% of abused children were
girls); the rate of child fatality is higher for boys (Chang). In addition, more than
85% of the child fatalities in 2012 were white children (Chang). However, when
comparing the number of child fatalities to the population data, Pacific Islander and
African American children had the highest rates of child fatalities being 4.69 and
4.67 per 100,000 Pacific Islander and African American children (Chang). Lastly,
over 20% of the child fatalities that occurred in 2012, the child was exposed to

Child abuse and neglect can have a lifelong implication on a victim, including in their
well being. Even though the physical wounds on a child may heal, there are several
long term consequences of experiencing the trauma of abuse and/or neglect. Children

4. Year Round Schooling Essay
Year Round Schooling The education system in the United States is an ever evolving
institution. As a country we have progressed from one room schoolhouses, to
segregated classrooms, to online learning environments. Congress is constantly
passing legislation to better our public school systems and minimize costs to
taxpayers. Individual states have also implemented various new systems to try and
maximize their education potential. One such alternative is year round schooling.
Year round schooling has become increasingly popular over the past few decades and

While one group is on break, the rest of the groups are in school, and they continue
to rotate so that as many students as possible can attend. In a four track school
district, student capacity is increased by 33%. In an extended year system, the
required number of days that children must attend school is increased from 180 to up
to 240.
There is also another calendar alternative that can be implemented in school systems:
school wide and school within a school calendars. In a school wide calendar, all of
the students follow the same yearlong schedule. But in the school within a school
calendar, half of the students are on a yearlong calendar and the other half are on the
traditional nine month calendar. This type of system has been implemented in
several school districts in North Carolina.
Some schools (such as Timber Lane school in Virginia) that follow yearlong
calendars also offer classes during the intercession breaks. These classes can be
voluntary for students who want to get ahead or learn a new or interesting skill, or
they can be mandatory for students who struggle and need the time to catch up on the
material learned during the year. Regardless of the reason for attending, both teachers
and students view intercession classes as a positive aspect of the year round school
system.
There are many other reasons why year round schooling is beneficial to students.

5. Pride In The Song Of Roland And Beowulf
Pride usually carries negative connotations. It is an arrogant, malicious trait which
can lead to a person s ruin. Pride, however, can also be a source of positive
motivation. It can encourage its host to perform great feats and thus obtain honor.
This duality possessed by pride can be examined in two famous Medieval poems, The
Song of Rolandand Beowulf. The protagonists of both poems suffer their demise
because of their insatiable pride. However, in both works, this hubris is perceived
differently. Indeed, Roland s pride causes the death of the forty thousand men
encompassing the rearguard army, and yet no resentment is shown towards him. On
the contrary, he is buried and honored like a saint, the holiest of heroes. Beowulf

Heaven swallowed the smoke. (Beowulf, ll. 3151 55)
In this harrowing lament, there is no inherent sorrow for the loss of Beowulf s
life. The pain felt by the Geats is selfish and they have no other choice but to be
selfish. They are completely alone, left in a mortal coil of despair, without any
sanctuary, hope or release. The sentence Heaven swallowed the smoke is an
allusion to this very idea, for Beowulf, now made smoke by the crimson fire of the
pyre, has forsaken his Geatland for the next life. This abandonment is a direct cause
of his stubborn, insatiable pride and the Geats are aware of this.
This resentment is apparent in the words of Wiglaf, who reflecting on the way
Beowulf died, says, Often when one man follows his own will, many are hurt. This
happened to us. Nothing we advised could ever convince the prince we loved...
(Beowulf, ll. 3077 80) This is not the only mentioning of the dangers of rigid
arrogance, for the poet foreshadows the ruin that will befall the nation due to
Beowulf s foolish ego. While celebrating the defeat of Grendel s mother, Hrothgar
interrupts the cheerful mood of the feast and warns Beowulf of pride and
callousness. He gives his own experience with Grendel as a testament to the horror
such arrogance can cause not only to one s self but one s people. Obviously.
Beowulf does not follow the exhortation, and not only does he meet his demise, but
ensures his people s end as

This report is concerned with the effects of teacher professionalization on elementary
and secondary teachers in the United States(Clabaugh and Rozycki, 1986). There is a
general perception that there is a marked change in the context of education in
general and teacher education in particular. In a world that increasingly values
specialization, teachers were found to be lacking in expertise in their respective fields
of specialization. It is also recognized that there is a shift in educational emphasis
from what to learn to how to learn brought about by an accelerating pace in the
production of knowledge triggered by the intensifying and pervading scientific and
technological revolution. But studies show that teachers do not have the appropriate
learning tools such as communication, problem solving, and thinking skills to
respond to such trends(Yeban,2002). Yeban (2002) continued that new imperatives
are forcing teacher education institutions to re visit and re think their assumptions,
theories, and practices about the kind of teachers that must be produced. The current
curriculum where the respondents of the study belong is deemed insufficient to
address these concerns. Issues such as the growing gap between theory and practice,

tenets and principles, the military relies on the experience of front line leaders, and

Currently, the United States military is waging wars on two fronts, Iraq and

Getting the helicopters staged at Desert One proved more difficult than initially
imagined. Even before the initial wave of the helicopters reached Desert One, the
mission experienced a loss due to pilot unfamiliarity with the warning signals of
the Navy helicopter. This incident reduced the available helicopters for the
mission, from eight to seven. The weather dealt the mission its second blow. As
the helicopters continued toward Desert One, they encountered severe
sandstorms. The sandstorms proved difficult for the pilots. One pilot became
disoriented and turned back, once again reducing the number of available
helicopters, which now stood at six. Once the remaining six helicopters arrived at
Desert One, the operation was ready to proceed. As aircraft and Delta Force
operators were positioned in the final stages for execution, one of the final six
helicopters experienced a hydraulic problem that caused the safety of the craft to
be called into question. Ultimately, this malfunction issued the final blow to the
troubled mission. After the order to abort was confirmed and evacuation initiated,
as if to add insult to injury, the already failed mission received one final fatal blow.
While repositioning for departure, one of the five remaining helicopters passed too
closely to a parked C 130 cargo plane. The rotors of the helicopter clipped the C 130

10. The Effects of Sociocultural Factors on Individuals Essay
Swami Nirmalananda, a disciple of the Indian mystic Ramakrishna, once said Our
modern society is engaged in polishing and decorating the cage in which man is
kept imprisoned. Society is seen as a cage by many because the cultural beliefs that
make up the society are what guide the actions and behaviors of those people within.
Sometimes the culture in societies result in helping people develop successfully and
positively, but this is not always the case. For instance, societies that were challenged
by racism during the mid twentieth century were marked by rage and were the
causes of some troublesome lives. In two short stories set during the mid twentieth
century, Sonny s Blues, by James Baldwin and The Man Who Was Almost a Man, by

Also, after Sonny s mother passed away, it was only Sonny and his brother; however,
the two were separated for a long period of time. Having support or being cared for
by family members is invaluable, but Sonny did not have this and it ultimately
resulted in one of the reasons for his troubled life. In Richard Wright s short story
The Man Who Was Almost a Man the main character, Dave Saunders, also faces a
problem which can be similarly traced to sociocultural factors. While shooting his gun
for the first time Dave accidentally shoots his boss , Mr. Hawkins, mule, and the
mule dies. The only reason Dave purchased a gun in the first place was to prove to
the others in society, specifically those who worked alongside him at Mr. Hawkins
plantation, that he was not a boy anymore, but rather a man. While working on Mr.
Hawkins plantation Dave is often humiliated by the older workers because they
think [he] ain t nothing but a boy (878). Also, the narrator states near the end of the
story that a group of people that has gathered around the dead mule on the
plantation laughs at Dave as he is walking away with tear filled eyes (886). Once
again this emphasizes that he receives no respect from the others. Mr. Hawkins
plantation is similar to the social environment in Harlem described in Sonny s Blues .

13. Caged Bird By Maya Angelo
Caged bird by maya Angela
When I read caged bird, i noticed that maya Angelo used metaphors, symbolism and
repetition, in her poem, she used metaphors to give an understanding view on both
sides of her topic, and built up on those two sides with repetition.
I caged bird, right away I noticed when she portrayed a metaphor in the line can
seldom see through/his bars of rage his wings are clipped and/his feet are tied
(Angelou, 10 13), I personally see the meaning of this as, showing when a person
is trapped within themselves not able to see the world in front of them, I also feel
that what she is portraying in my point of view is that, you can never get past
something if you keep yourself their, I get this idea from the line can seldom see
through/his bars of rage (Angelou, 10 11) also I feel she s showing what society can
do to someone and how they can slow down their progress when she writes his wings
are clipped and/his feet are tied (Angelou, 12 13)

While creating her metaphorical view I think that she used symbolism as apart of
that, I also believe that the symbolism that she uses in her poem is about the bird, i
could recognize that she might have been using the bird as a person, I especially
notice this when she writes a caged bird stands on a grave of dreams (Angelou,
27)I know that birds don t have ambitions or dreams, so I used this knowledge to
deduce it to being a human, this isn t exactly personification, but more like giving
the bird the ability to be know for its placement in its view of dreams and ambition
I noticed that she uses the bird as a base for her whole poem, she utilizes this bird
to portray how weak a humans will it can become, I also feel that she uses the cage
also, to embody the hardships and how the bird is not able to move past it, hence
the part where she says can seldom see through/his bars of rage (Angelou, 10 11

entrance to the Knysna Lagoon from the sea. While traveling by a four wheel

18. Rhetorical Analysis of Frederick Douglass s How I
Learned...
Rhetorical Analysis of Douglass
In the excerpt Learning to Read and Write , Frederick Douglass talks about his
experiences in slavery living in his masters house and his struggle to learn how to
read and write. Frederick Douglass was an African American social reformer,
orator, writer, and statesman. Some of his other writings include The Heroic Slave
, My Bondage and My Freedom , and Life and Times of Frederick Douglass . In this
excerpt, Frederick Douglass uses an empathic tone, imagery, certain verb choice,
contrast, and metaphors to inform African Americans of how important it is to learn
to read and write and also to inform a white American audience of the evils of slavery
. I find Frederick Douglass to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As far as the white audience goes, he likely chose this audience to make slave
owners and non slave owners look at slavery a different way. The way he portrays
slavery in my eyes is almost as a force that turned this woman (his mistress) into
something that she is not. It makes slavery look like a disease spread on white
Americans that makes them horrible people. Another audience that might be
included are poor white children and/or teenagers. Throughout the excerpt,
Douglass explains how he would use the poor white children as instructors to teach
him how to read and write in exchange for food. In the excerpt he writes Have not I
as good a right to be free as you have? These words used to trouble them; they
would express for me the liveliest sympathy... He could have chosen this audience
because he knows that the children hold the future. This would be his way of
convincing the younger kids to look down upon slavery. That could change the lives
of African Americans forever. There could be a number of different audiences that
Frederick Douglass was referring to, but the least likely would be extremely racist
slave owners. Racist slave owners probably wouldn t even pick up something an
African American wrote, let alone care what he had to say. The Logos in this excerpt
has a structure of Frederick Douglass s events going in chronological order. He opens

19. Satire In The Firebombing Of Vonnegut
Satire is an important part of postmodernism and it is one of the most prominent
aspects of Vonnegut s novels, with his humor manifesting itself as a form of black
humor. With his very dark sense of humor, Vonnegut confronts many of the
negative aspects of the world and describes them in such a way that it disarms and
desensitizes the reader to the shock of what they are reading. Slaughterhouse Five
is an excellent example of this. When describing the shock and horror that Billy
witnessed during the firebombing of Dresden, Vonnegut takes the time to describe
Weary and Wild Bob and Rumfoord, characters who find glory in wholesale death
and destruction (Cox 272). In writing his response to the horrors of war, Vonnegut
takes the approach that it is better to make the reader laugh at something and have
them slowly realize the horror of what they have read, as opposed to immediately
shocking the reader by presenting gory details of his experiences in Dresden. Even
the name of his main character is subtle black humor. Billy Pilgrim, whose name is
a reference to John Bunyan s The Pilgrim s Progress and connotes that Vonnegut s
pilgrim is an average joe burdened with a life of agony and terror (F1). His name
is also in reference to Vonnegut s feeling that the Second World War was a war
fought by mere children, hence the book s subtitle The Children s Crusade. The
idea of young men who were no more than children in essence when they were sent
off to fight and die in a foreign land is a distressing and horrible idea for many
people to think about. Yet through his humor Vonnegut forces the reader to come to
terms with this, but in a way that eases a reader into the darkness of the novel
instead of running into it head on. In Slaughterhouse Five, Vonnegut does not limit
his black humor to the topic of war, but also opens up criticisms of society as he sees
it. Through the Tralfamadorian aliens that kidnap Billy and take him captive on their
planet and the science fiction of Kilgore Trout, Vonnegut uses his humor in regards
to a variety of topics not related to war. Once such example of Trout s novels that are
throughout the story is The Gospel from Outer Space in which a visitor from outer
space studied

The Justin Bieber commercial was pretty cool . They had cavemen , some were
football players from the falcons and the Patriots. Then at the end there were
football players ,dancers , and other random people. They were promoting T

because he is a famous person. If someone sees a famous person in the commercial
they might think they are with T mobile and want to sign up just because of Justin .
The Humpty Dumpty commercial was really interesting . Humpty Dumpty was

24. Physics of the Golf Drive Essay
This paper examines the physics involved in driving a golf ball off the tee. The
objective of a drive is to achieve the greatest distance while leaving the golf ball in
the middle of the fairway. Several factors will be considered in achieving the longest,
and most accurate drive. The factors include calculating the velocity of the golf ball
after the club and ballcollide, the mass of the club head, launch angle, the shape of the
club face, and finding the optimal golfball.
Intuition tells us that the larger the velocity of the club head at impact with the golf
ball, the larger the velocity of the golf ball after the impact. To calculate the velocity
of the golf ball we need to consider the relationship between the velocity of ... Show

Using the principle of conservation of momentum:
2) MVi + mvi = MVf + mvf where M is the mass of the club head, and m is the mass
of the golf ball.
The unknowns in the equations will be the final velocities of the golf ball and club
head, so first eliminate one of the final velocities in equation 1 and substitute into
equation 2.
3) Vf = vf e(Vi vi) sub into equation 2
4) MVi + mvi = M[vf e(Vi vi)] + mvf
Since the golf ball is originally at rest, vi = 0, solving for final velocity of golf ball
yields:
5) vf = [MVi(1 + e)] / (M + m)
Using similar algebra steps to solve for the final velocity of the club head yields:
6) Vf = Vi(M me) / (M + m)
You can use these results and the fact that potential energy at the collision point is
equal to zero to calculate the energy lost in the collision.
7) W = (0.5MVf2 + 0.5mvf2 0.5MVi2)
Our objective in driving a golf ball down the fairway is to keep it as straight as
possible and to drive it as far as possible. It is therefore logical to ask what mass of a
club head would give the longest drive?
From equation 5 we found that the velocity of the ball after impact is given by:
5) vf = [MVi(1 + e)] / (M + m)
25. From this equation, we can see that the velocity of the ball should increase if we
increase the velocity of our swing, the elasticity of the ball, or the mass of the club
head.
We should also recognize that increasing

Since the initiation of the Third Wave of Democracy, several countries have
attempted to form a democratic system of governs. We take note that not all have
succeeded. At the dawn of this era, democracy was being applied to countries with
no prior history of a governing body that was place by the people for the people
hence success of such a system could not be guaranteed because of the innumerous
variables that existed in each country. People being the highlighted factor of variance,
it may become easier to understand how countries such as Pakistan and Nigeria, both
countries prior to the Wave had no local governing machinery. Pakistan further
endured a partition from India which resulted in not only an instant religious and...

The Spanish citizens were not always necessarily tormented by tyrants, whose
political ideologies only reflected what benefited themselves. From 1931 1936 , the
second republic was formed in Spain where they established a free democratic setting
and For the first time a major breakthrough was made in regional autonomy,
indispensable for the development of a stable modern democracy in Spain 1. Spain
currently is a parliamentary representative democratic constitutional monarchy. Its
branch of powers is separated in to two, where the executive power lies with the
government and the legislative power is delegated to the Spanish parliament. Due
to this structure it is very arduous for political figures in states and governments to
abuse their power. The executive power in Spain is given to the Council of
Minister s, which is led by the Spanish prime minister. The Prime Minister is
initially nominated by the king where after he is required to obtain the vote of the
lower house of parliament, and finally the king appoints the prime minister. Spain
s legislature is elected directly. The Spanish legislature branch consists of the
congress of deputies and the senate whom serve for a period no more than 4 years.
The senate is elected through bloc voting at a provincial level. The congress on the
other hand is similar yet different, as it is at a provincial level as well. Two members

28. Hamlet s Metamorphosis Essay
To be or not to be that is the question... (III. i. 56) so starts Hamlet s most famous
and well known soliloquy. In William Shakespeare s Hamlet, the main character
Hamlet goes through many transitions. These changes are very apparent through
his soliloquies, each of which shows him in a different state of mind. His first
soliloquy exists merely to show his profound melancholia and the reasons for his
despair (Mabillard Part 1... 3). He refers to himself as ...a rogue and peasant slave
(II. ii. 577) by his second soliloquy and wishes he could arouse his passions
(Mabillard Part 1... 5). As much as he wants to avenge his father s murder, he does
nothing yet because he wants everything planned exactly so (Mabillard Part... Show

disproportionate mental exertion, which necessitates exhaustion of bodily feeling

unsuitability for the role of revenger (Cousins 2), when he talks about [his] father s

developing lack of self worth (Mabillard Part 1... 4). Hamlet does not look at
himself as revenger he loathes Claudius and so in making a link between himself
and Claudius and himself and Hercules, he is saying they re really not alike. Hamlet
believes he is not a man that can be depended upon to get revenge.
The second soliloquy unveils the real conflict he

The purpose was to create a program and coordinate assets of the federal government
and state agencies to control and minimize the economic, ecological, and human
health impacts caused by invasive species (Bergman). In addition to organizing and
establishing federal policy in regards to invaders it defines what an invasive
species is. Executive Order 13112 defines an invasive species as an alien species
whose introduction does or is likely to cause economic or environmental harm or
harm to human health. Invasive species typically harm native species through
predation, habitat degradation and competition for shared resources (Cost of
Invasive Species, US Fish amp; Wildlife). By defining invasive species the order
took strides to narrow the scope of non indigenous species to those who are actively
and aggressively pushing our native species out through monopolization of resources
and other tactics. This definition takes pains to, therefore, exclude non indigenous
species to the United States who are not evicting indigenous species out of their
native environment rather they are an almost welcome addition to our ecosystems.
North American populations of the ring neck pheasant, Phasianus colchicus, is a very
good examples of this. They were introduced to the North American continent from
Asia through settlers however, these species failed to become aggressive competitors
to native species. Their populations remained controlled through natural predation
30. Analysis Of The Poem The Roses By William Faulkner
Save The Roses
In the short story A Rose for Emily , William Faulkner uses the rose as a symbol for
Emily and how she lived her life. Like humans, roses live a beautiful life and then
die when it s their time. While people like to save roses because they possess
sentimental value, Mrs. Emily tried to save her loved ones who passed away.
Some thought maybe she was just a woman you would give a rose. Which ever
reason, the way Mrs. Emily was raised gives reason for her weird and sickening
actions. Regardless of if she had a good excuse or not, Mrs. Emily s actions would
have never been allowed or overlooked in this day in age. In our society we carry
with us many different options, religions, friends, families, personalities and even
jobs that wouldn t allow these things to happen. All of the events in this short story
make me wonder What If this happened around my home, in my neighborhood ,
wouldn t everyone would be applied? There are so many people like Emily around
the world and the only reason we are aware of them is because people stepped up
and stopped looking the other way. Mrs. Emily Grierson, is definitely seen as a
strange character in any reader s opinion and a character analysis of Emily would
definitely go in countless directions. In the story the reader witnesses Mrs. Emily
having a hard time dealing with several of life s hardships. Emily s own self
depression, anxiety and her disconnection from the community is what brings most of
the events to

The Uses of God and the Church in The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
Morrison places a responsibility for the social dilemma; tragic condition of blacks
in a racist America so prominent in the 1940s, on an indefinite God and/or the
church. This omniscient being, the creator of all things, both noble and corrupt,
and his messengers seem to have in a sense sanctioned the ill fated in order to
validate the hatred and scorn of the righteous. In her introduction of the Breedlove
family, Morrison holds accountable the Breedlove s acceptance of ugliness to a
higher power saying, It was as though some mysterious all knowing master had
given each one a cloak of ugliness to wear (Morrison, 39). This divine being not only

His letter, addressed to He who greatly ennobled human nature by creating it, intends
to familiarize an omniscient being with the facts which have either escaped his
notice, or which he has chosen to ignore (Morrison, 176) saying that he forgot about
the children.
You said, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and harm them not. Did you
forget? Did you forget about the children? Yes. You forgot. You let them go wanting,
sitting on road shoulders, crying next to their dead mothers. I ve seen them charred,
lame, halt. You forgot, Lord. You forgot how and when to be God#8230;That s why I
changed the little black girl s eyes for her #8230;I did what You could not do. I
looked at that ugly little black girl and I loved her. I played You (Morrison, 181 2).
This letter not only incriminates God but it also incriminates the church. In their
duty to come to the aid of the unloved and depressed they have failed and instead
begun to play God themselves, judging society s mistakes in the name of righteous
superiority. This is evident in Pauline s successfully achieved martyrdom at the cost
of her marriage and the lives of her children.
Pauline Breedlove s personal history is shown to have played out in extreme
measures in the life of her daughter. From the early part of her life she has worn a
shroud of shame. The book says that it is due primarily to her injured foot that she
felt a sense of separateness and unworthiness and
33. The Pros And Cons Of H-1B Visas
In recent years, much has changed in the science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics (STEM) fields. Three reports, Rising above the Gathering Storm,
Innovative America, and Tapping America s Potential, argue that if Americans do
not improve in the STEM field our economy will suffer, our exports will be
affected and taking away H 1B visas will heavily impact America. The three reports
write about using more innovation and technology, if we do this then our
economy will be stable. The proponents argue that we need to close achievement
gaps, improve the quality of teachers, increase labor supply, improve our
international ranking, and issue more H 1B visas. The proponents say that
America should issue more H 1B visas because it is helping our economy but,
critics say we shouldn t issue more. Workers in the STEM field think that their
employers are replacing them because the H 1B foreign workers are cheaper.
Although, critics argue that the H 1B visas are taking American jobs and giving
them out to foreigners so, America can be ahead. But, for the US to be ahead in
innovation and STEM education, we need to issue more H 1B visas. Right now,
students here on visas are graduating with degrees in STEM and because of this our
economy is stable. The critics argue that these H 1B visas are popular because
companies want to obtain workers at a lower cost than American workers. Ron Hira,
the writer of The H 1B and L 1 Visa Programs: Out of Control, writes about how H

35. Essay On The Opening Line In William Gibson s
Neuromancer
The opening line in Neuromancer by William Gibson sets the tone for the whole
book, The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.
(Gibson, pg.3) The very first thing we see in Neuromancer is a dead, static sky, and
already the natural has been replaced by technology. This image starts the book
with a dead landscape. The lack of a natural landscape in Neuromancer shows that
in this futuristic age, technology has become all encompassing. Due to this the
natural world has become strange and out of place, this challenges readers on how
they see the world today. The world of Neuromancer is gray and harsh. There are
only a few time through out the book that Case ventures outside after being fixed by

trees. He finds this encounter with nature unnatural, and it makes him feel very
uneasy. Case is used to being in the matrix where he can control what he sees and
he is able to scrutinize what objects on the outside world look like without having to

I.An Introduction to The Seven Years War Despite its transformation into what many
historians consider to be the first global war, the Anglo French Seven Years War had
rather humble beginnings. That is, the war did not erupt simultaneously in all areas
due to some incredibly catalytic event that sent the two great European powers into
an inevitable conflict. Rather, Britain and France went to war over the little things. In
spite of both France s and England s desires to remain defensive, minor skirmishes
and maneuvers over disputed lands increased misperceptions of the other s intentions,
which when amplified by miscommunications both between and within parties led to
the war we know today. Ultimately, the Seven Years could have been

In the case of the prelude to The Seven Years War, colonies would deliberately
deceive their home state, who would then act out in fear of the worst. There was
perhaps no more egregious occurrence of intentional deceit to state than when
Governor Shirley of Britain s Massachusetts colony falsely declared that there was a
French invasion near the Kennebec River in Maine (then part of Massachusetts). In
addition to the information being blatantly wrong, communication failures between
colonies and states created a five month gap between when Shirley rescinded his
initial claims, by stating them as an error. Governor Shirley s news of an invasion in
Maine arrived in Britain concurrently with Governor Dinwiddie s news of an invasion
in the Ohio Valley, making it seem in Britain that the French had initiated all out war.
Similar communication failures occurred on the French side, when Duquesne falsely
reported British positions, leading the French to take hysteric defensive action.
Without an officially embedded government in their colonies there was no method for
the French and British to discern the truth, and the powers were stuck in a survival
dilemma, which in this case led each to lash out against the other in fear that their
presence in their colonies was about to be eliminated. It is animal instinct to fight

The reason Tennessee was being sued is because Mr. Lane was needed at the
courthouse to face criminal charges, but the courthouse did not have wheelchair
accessibility. Mr. Lane had to crawl on his hands and knees up multiple flights of

handicapped and worked as a court reporter. Because of her inability to walk up
stairs, Mrs. Jones was not able to attend to numerous court hearings. Mrs. Jones lost

the other four judges who voted alongside her knew that what had happened at the
courthouse in Tennessee was erroneous. The court then ruled that the courthouse in
Tennessee had to accommodate to the needs of handicapped people, which meant
implementing ramps for wheelchairs to use.

to which the readers cannot help but visualise the scenario, influencing the thought of
an authentic environment. Description is also a force behind the reality of the fantasy
