THIS AUTHORITY HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED BY HEC IN 2007 AND IS TERMED AS
NATIONAL ACCREDITATION COUNCIL FOR TEACHER EDUCATION
4. WHAT IS ACCREDITATION?
• ACCREDITATION IS AN EVALUATION PROCESS TO DETERMINE THE QUALITY OF AN INSTITUTION OR
PROGRAM USING PRESET STANDARDS.
• ACCREDITATION IS NORMALLY CARRIED OUT ON A PEER REVIEW BASIS BY COMPETENT, NON-
GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES SUCH AS NATIONAL, REGIONAL, AND/OR LOCAL ASSOCIATIONS.
• THESE ACCREDITING AGENCIES OR ASSOCIATIONS PREPARE STANDARDS FOR EDUCATIONAL
INSTITUTIONS AND SUBSEQUENTLY APPLY THESE STANDARDS WHEN EVALUATING INDIVIDUAL
INSTITUTIONS SEEKING ACCREDITATION.
9. SCOPE
oALL THE EXISTING TEACHER EDUCATION DEGREE PROGRAMMES SHALL BE WITHIN THE
JURISDICTION OF THE COUNCIL. ANY NEW PROGRAMME IN TEACHER EDUCATION SHALL ALSO
BE REFERRED TO THE COUNCIL FOR THE GRANT OF ACCREDITATION.
oTHE ACCREDITATION WILL BE FOR SPECIFIC DEGREE PROGRAMMES AND NOT INSTITUTIONS.
oACCREDITATION SHALL BE MANDATORY FOR ALL RELEVANT ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES OFFERED
BY PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTOR INSTITUTIONS.

10. o THE COUNCIL SHALL ASSIST AND ADVISE TEACHER EDUCATION
INSTITUTIONS IN PLANNING THEIR ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL
PROGRAMMES.
o THE COUNCIL SHALL SUPPORT THE INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT
OF PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS (STUDENTS) INTERESTED IN PURSUING
THE TEACHING PROFESSION AND PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL
ASSISTANCE TO THE CONCERNED ORGANIZATIONS.
11. FUNCTIONS
• TO STUDY AND DEVELOP POLICIES AND PROCESSES FOR ACCREDITATION OF TEACHER EDUCATION
PROGRAMMES LEADING TO A DEGREE OR A POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA.
• TO LAY DOWN CRITERIA ON WHICH TEACHER EDUCATION DEGREE PROGRAMMES SHALL BE ASSESSED AND
EQUATED.
• TO INSPECT TEACHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS FOR ASCERTAINING WHETHER THOSE INSTITUTIONS ARE
FUNCTIONING IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISION OF RELEVANT UNIVERSITIES’ REGULATIONS.
• TO APPROVE A LIST OF AUDITORS FOR DIFFERENT FIELDS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROCESS OF
ACCREDITATION OF TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAMMES.
• TO CONSTITUTE AN ACCREDITATION INSPECTION COMMITTEE (AIC) TO EVALUATE AND AUDIT PROCESS
FROM THE LIST OF AUDITORS. THE SAID COMMITTEE WILL SEND ITS RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE COUNCIL
FOR MAKING DECISION. THE SELECTION CRITERIA FOR SUCH AUDITORS WILL BE MADE BY THE COUNCIL.
12. •To propose, consider and approve the policies and procedures for accreditation.
•To consider and make decision on any appeal with regard to accreditation
•To publish a list of ranking of teacher education programmes.
•To promote intellectual development and understanding of subject areas that impact
accreditation related activities in the teaching profession.
•To collect, collate, index, publish, and disseminate information and research findings on
teaching profession and to support the teacher education institutions for quality assurance.
•To prepare guidelines and procedures to train programme auditors and guide them how to
assist the institutions in planning their academic programmes for accreditation purpose and
future progress.
•To prepare annual report on the activities of the Council and submit it to the Chairperson HEC.

6.1.2 The planning and conduct of research is in consonance with local

17. PREREQUISITE OF LEVEL “X”
The system provides mechanisms for the assessment of teacher educators’
knowledge, skills and dispositions.
3.1.7 Classrooms and laboratories are equipped with the facilities and
equipment required for the courses hosted there.
4.1.1 There is a formal appointment/placement policy for teacher
educators.
4.1.2 The institution recommends the required number of positions.
4.4.3 A prescribed prospective teacher – teacher educator ratio is
consistently followed for all program related activities.
5.1.5 There is evidence that efforts have been made to accrue funds for
outreach programs.
5.2.8 The annual calendar of the program is disseminated and available to
all the stakeholders.

• NACTE WILL NOTIFY ACCREDITATION SCHEDULE IN ACCORDANCE TO ITS CALENDAR.
• THE CONCERNED INSTITUTION WILL DEPOSIT THE ACCREDITATION FEE. CLICK HERE FOR ACCREDITATION FEE RATES.
• THE CONCERNED INSTITUTION IS REQUIRED TO FILE A FORMAL REQUEST TO THE NACTE FOR ACCREDITATION OF THE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM
BEING CONDUCTED BY IT.
• THE NACTE IN RESPONSE WILL ISSUE AN ACCREDITATION CODE TO THE INSTITUTION FOR THE PROGRAM APPLIED FOR. THIS CODE WILL SERVE AS A
REFERENCE FOR ALL FUTURE CORRESPONDENCE AND COURSES OF ACTIONS.
• THE INSTITUTION WILL COMPLETE THE PRE-REQUISITES OF ACCREDITATION WHICH INCLUDES THE INSTITUTIONAL SELF EVALUATION REPORT, PROGRAM
PERFORMANCE PROFILE (PPP) AND COMPLIANCE TO THE OBSERVATIONS, IF ANY MADE BY THE NACTE.
• AFTER THE PREREQUISITES ARE MET, THE NACTE WILL NOTIFY THE ACCREDITATION VISIT DATES.
• A TEAM OF NACTE APPOINTED ACADEMIC AUDITORS WILL VISIT THE INSTITUTION ON THE NOTIFIED DATES TO ASSESS AND EVALUATE THE TEACHER
EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR ACCREDITATION PURPOSE.
• THE DURATION OF THE VISIT WILL DEPEND UPON THE NATURE OF THE PROGRAM AND LEVEL OF ACCREDITATION.

23. (2) Accreditation Inspection Committee may assess each case and make its
recommendations to the Council for further consideration and approval.
(33) Principal/Chairman/Head of an institution can lodge a written appeal to the
Controlling Authority if there is a rejection to the grant of accreditation to a programme.
(44) The Controlling Authority will form an Appeal Committee comprising the following:-
(a) The Chairman Council
(b) Dean, Faculty of Education of a university (other than the appellant’s university) to be
nominated by the Chairperson, HEC.
(c) One member of the Council to be nominated by the Chairperson, HEC from the list of
the Council members)
(d) A senior teacher educator/head of an accredited teacher education institution to be
nominated by the Chairperson, HEC.
(5) The Committee will review the appeal and send its recommendations/comments to
the Controlling Authority for decision.
