There is no single model of what constitutes
an accredited university or college. But it is
possible to identify certain defining
characteristics, which are globally
accepted. Some of these are:
fostering and supporting scholarly activity
and creative research
regard of accountability to the stakeholders
on the integrity of its scholarship
maintenance of academic standard
impartiality of its judgments
effectiveness of its systems
competence of its graduates.

Specifically, an accredited university or college
should be able to demonstrate active
commitment to and achievement in:
the creation, transmission and conversation of
knowledge;
the development of constantly high level of
knowledge and in appropriate fields of expert
knowledge, skills and understanding among
students and faculty.
4. The exchange of knowledge across
disciplines and geographic
boundaries;
An ethos of critical and self-centered
inquiry in all areas of activity;
A conscious professional approval to
research and the facilitation of
learning;
Recognition by academic peers and
other appropriate organizations of the

outcomes.

2. The Institution’s curricular programs meet prescribed standards
and are supported with appropriate and updated learning
processes and resources.
3. Periodic review, monitoring, and evaluation of curricular
programs by stakeholders are conducted to respond to recent
trends and development.

program based on community needs and has
capability to provide expertise in and the transfer
of technologies.
2. The faculty and assigned staff are involved in the
planning, conduct and evaluation of the activities

support for the continuity and sustainability of the
extension projects.
4. The institution has an organized pool of experts to
provide consultancy services along identified

within the prescribed period.

available to all students needing assistance and to
ensure that they gain maximum benefit from the
support they receive.

laboratories, information technology, multi-media center and
general education laboratories is important.

3. The institution has a viable and sustainable income-
generating program/project to support its budget and
augment the regular budget allocation from the
government.
