The right to education is reflected in International law in Article ‘26
‘of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)and Article
’13’ & ’14’ of the International Covenant on Economical , Social
and Cultural Rights

“Everyone has the right to education. Education shall
be free in elementary and fundamental stage.
Education shall be directed to the full development of
personality , shall promote understanding, tolerance
and friendship among all nations . Parents have a prior
and equal right to choose the kind of education”
5. EDUCATION AS HUMAN RIGHT
The right to education was reaffirmed in 1960 UNESCO
Convention against discrimination in education , The 1981
Convention of the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination
against Women , The 2006 Convention on the rights of the
person with disabilities and the African Charter on Human on
Human and People`s Right.

10. EFA
• Education For All (EFA) is a global movement led by UNESCO (United
Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), aiming to meet
the learning needs of all children, youth and adults by 2015.
• EFA was adopted by The Dakar Framework in April 2000 at the World
Education Forum in Senegal, Africa, with the goal in mind that all children
would receive primary education by 2015. Not all children receive the
education they need or want, therefore this goal was put in place to help
those children.

eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), especially :
• MDG 2 on universal primary education and
• MDG 3 on gender equality in education, by 2015.
