The Third Artefact For My Portfolio
The third artefact for my portfolio was Assignment 3 in course Mdde 605, titled: Globe Driving
Academy Business Plan. Its purpose was to identify a business structure from the strategic plan
and multi year strategic goals and to reflect the potential for growth. Students were expected to
include financial plans and a balanced scorecard reflecting and measuring an organization s
success. This 43 page document covered everything from Business visions, motivation product
services, marketing schemes, governance process, to the Financial Plan for a for profit company
which was going to implement e learning as the next major step to stand out in the industry.
Competencies and Reflection The assignment itself was lengthy and took me a very long time to
complete it. Not having a background in business the most challenging part was doing research on
a projected financial plan. It was with a help of a charted accountant that I was able to accomplish
this with actual numbers from my workplace so all the information is based on true numbers. He
taught me how to gather information on company s projected sales, factors contributing to losses,
projected profit, and comparing with actual profit. This way, it is possible to predict of it is worth
investing before investing and starting new projects in the company. In the end, I was pleased with
the final product despite the frustration of reading multiple business plans, tackling the numbers
and understating the swot (strengths,

INFORMATION SYSTEMS ASSIGNMENT 1 The abovementioned has been arranged in two parts
on the same document, first Question 1 then Question 2 follows below that: QUESTION 1:
Question 1: explanation of how implementation of cloud accounting information system in an
organisation relates to corporate straegy and value chain. Risks and benefits are explored.
Introduction We seek to investigate how the implementation of a cloud accounting information
system relates to an organisation s corporate strategy and value chain. There are benefits that may
be enjoyed by such an organisation although it would have to diligently contend with the risks such
a move would entail. Value adding benefits would be favorable to the organisation s corporate
strategy yet the risks may potentially destroy the organisation if not mitigated properly. Cloud
accounting information systems involve the basic functionality of input, storage, processing and
output. The applications are hosted by a service provider giving the customer ease of access and use
anywhere using any device. This functionality is similar to the traditional inhouse accounting
systems which are installed on the computer. Cloud Accounting information systems are accessed
via a web based platform such as the internet. There are inherent risks and benefits associated with
use of such as system as with any system. Benefits: Any

Analysis Of Zitkala-Sa Assimilation
Zitkala Sa s Assimilation Barriers
By 1860, there were 60 missionary schools which were not known for most American societies
because they were not mentioned in the U.S. history, and there were 6200 Native Americans
children in it. Cultural assimilation is the process of taking in, fully understanding and absorbing
information or ideas. There are two factors which hindered Zitkala Sa assimilation to the European
American culture. The first factor is how people from different cultures inhabit different
nonverbal sensory worlds, and the second one is judging people based on their own culture and
standards. The story of the song ten little Indians started in a missionary school in the U.S.
where Zitkala Sa choose to study at. She was a writer, teacher, violinist, and activist for Native
American rights. She was one of the Native American who suffered through her childhood in the
missionary school, and she was treated badly from European American in a forcing way to
accept the new culture and do what they told her to do. However, the text was categorized in
three main sections each of which is describing her life in the missionary school. Overall, Zitkala
Sa did not assimilate completely to European American culture because of misinterpreting of non
verbal signs and symbols and having the tendency to evaluate. First of all, non verbal signs and
symbols was a stumbling block to Zitkala Sa s assimilation, and it raised the tenacity in her to rebel

Midst Of Weakness Essay
God: There in the Midst of Weakness It was my senior year of high school in the small town of
Gardendale, Alabama. This was the year the girls varsity soccer team was expected to go all the
way to the finals, and make a hard run at the state championship title. We had made it to the third
round, and after this game we were heading north to Huntsville, Alabama for the quarter finals.
Except, in an instant, this all changed after one practice, two days before our game, when our
principal showed up with some heartbreaking news. We no longer had a shot at the championship
title because someone on our team had broken the rules; therefore, we had been kicked out of the
playoffs. This filled me with anger, hatred, and resentment towards that one person. I became a
very bitter version of myself until God showed me a new path to walk down in the following
week. My story beings on the Friday night before our first playoff game. My dad asked me to go
to our city soccer fields to get a corner flag for the game tomorrow at the school. When I got to
the fields one of my best friends texts me and says, Hey! Are high school players allowed to play
on teams other than the high school team? I was confused. No they are definitely not, but was
she talking about one of my teammates or someone we were supposed to play against? I storm
out onto the field to see if I know who is breaking such a big rule and my mind is blown when I
see one of my own teammates out on the field playing. So much is running through my mind, Do
I say something to her? Do I tell my coach? What will this do to our chances of playing in the
championship? All these thoughts, yet I stand on the field frozen from anger at the fact that this
person thinks it s okay to break a rule in order to benefit herself. So I did what anyone like me
would do and I confronted her, Do you really think it is okay that you are out here playing when
our high school season is still going on? She stares at me with no emotion on her face, says
absolutely nothing, and just walks away acting as if she had done no wrong. I left the fields that
night with all those questions about what to do still circling about in my mind and some new
thoughts popping up, I am the only

The Stanford Prison Experiment At Stanford University
I. Introduction:
Imagine that the year is 1971, and you are a male college student at Stanford University in
California. Like most college kids, you are strapped for cash, so you begin to seek a part time
job. You see an ad for a psychology study that pays $15 per day posted in the local newspaper,
and decide to submit an application. Little do you know at the time, that the study you are
applying for will become known worldwide and create such an impact that it remains relevant over
44 years later. This infamous study is known today as the Stanford Prison Experiment. The
experiment was led by psychology professor Dr. Philip Zimbardo along with his team of researchers
in the basement of the psychology building at Stanford University. Today, I am going to speak
about why the experiment was conducted, what occurred during the experiment, and the ethical
implications that resulted because of this notorious study.
II. Why the Experiment Was Conducted:
I will begin by explaining why the Stanford Prison Experiment was conducted. Dr. Philip Zimbardo
and his research team sought to examine the effect that social institutions and certain situations
have on an individual s behavior. According to the American Psychological Association, a situation
centered approach to studying human behavior, focuses on factors external to the person
(American Psychological Association). More specifically, Zimbardo wanted to study how quickly
an individual would conform to the role of prisoner or

Sound Waves Allow Us to Hear
Have you ever sat down and wondered why you can hear things? How sounds form? What are
the different components? This all happens because of sound waves. Sound Waves are
disturbances that go from one place to another in a medium. An example of this could be a Slinky.
when it is all stretched out the slinky would be at equilibrium. Then a particle in the slinky moves
in any direction and makes a disturbance. A pulse allows you to see the disturbance that is
happening from both ends of the slinky . when a pulse is repeated continuously through the slinky
then it is a wave. A medium is where the wave is carried and held from one end to the other. it
only transports the wave, it does not make it The medium plays the role of the slinky in the
example from the above paragraph. Mediums can be different depending on the location. For
example the ocean water would be the medium of the wave is traveling in the water, the medium is
the air if it is a soundwave. The only reason disturbances can get through the medium is because
there are parts in the medium that interact with each other. Going back to the slinky example, the
coils are the interacting parts of it. And in air the molecules are the interacting pairs. the medium is
full of connected particles that go moving each other. The particles in the medium are not always
moving, they go back to their normal equilibrium position because they have a constant force on
them that makes them do that. Wavesare not matter , they

The Problem Of Violent Crimes
Violent Crimes Introduction Violent crimes occur more than one could even imagine. However,
there is definitely a questionable aspect to these crimes within their court procedures. If one
were to take a closer look at specific court procedures of crimes having to deal with mental
illnesses, it will be determined that it is viewed differently oppose to a sane person. When
taking mental illnesses into consideration when referring to criminal behavior, there is an
obvious difference between actions. There begins to be a question of responsibility within these
criminals. It is fair to say that there is a difference with court procedures. The imperativeness of
the courts is extremely important when referring to any case. There are biological and social
risk factors that pertain to any given case. There is a question as to if these should be taken into
consideration when enduring the court process as an entirety. By taking a deeper look at the
biological aspects within a case, the justice system will be able to give more accurate sentences.
Statement of the Problem This ongoing problem on whether or not mental illnesses along with
biological issues should be used within the court process has been constantly debated about. The
information on this subject may not always be as accurate as needed in order to make decisions
such as sentencing. The sentencing of a criminal can easily be a life changer and if it is dependent
on whether or not their mental illnesses are

##arison Of Creon In Sophocles Dante s Inferno
In Dante s Inferno, King Minos uses his power to condemn humans to hell based on their sins.
King Minos seeks to use his power wisely, but Creon, King of Thebes in Sophocles Antigone puts
power over family. Creon s self ambition is the driving force behind many of his ill fated
decisions. For example, this flaw of excess greed inspires Creon to commit crimes against his own
niece and son that result in a tragic ending for all involved. Thus, SophoclesCreon belongs in Circle
Eight of Hellwith the Sowers of Discord.
First, King Minos defines each individual based upon their tragic flaw. This comes from Greek
roots because a fatal flaw is a weakness by the character that brings apart their downfall. 1 This
is the first step in passing judgement on Creon. Creon s tragic flaw is his pride and his over
ambition. Creon himself admits this, That is true.... It troubles me. Oh it is hard to give in! but
it is worse to risk everything for stubborn pride. 2 Pride is very dangerous because that leads to his
over ambition. Aristotle argues the need to have proper pride. When a person is in excess, they
are too prideful and their deficiency is that they are too short of humility.3 This excess in pride
entices Creon to test out his power, so once Creon gets hold of power, he is very unlikely to give it
up. Creon s tragic flaw of pride and over ambition led to his downfall and his place in hell.
Since Creon has a tragic flaw, he cannot be in Limbo with the Virtuous. In his Nicomachean

The Importance Of Honesty
Honesty
Would you call yourself honest if you never have the chance to be dishonest? Honesty is the
foundation upon which a person builds any relationship with their loved ones such as family or
friends. Being honest to loved ones, will make them feel that they are trustworthy and close enough
for to reveal their feelings. Honesty plays an important role in raising children to be good citizens.
When I was six years old, one spring afternoon I was waiting for the bell to ring to go home from
school. The Principal, Mrs. Garcia came to my classroom to give us a last minute announcement. I

I was hoping my mom wanted to keep it, after all I was the owner. I found it, not my mother. Then
she said, Tomorrow we will go to school and give it back to whoever this money belongs to.
Tomorrow came and there we were, in the Principal s office. I remember the reaction of the
Principal. She was crying like a river, kissing my mother, and thanking her over and over for her
honesty and the great example she was to me. At that the moment I understood why she wanted
to give the money back. It belonged to the Principal who put the folder on my desk, while she
was giving the last minute announcement the day before. I had been in a hurry and I shoved the
folder in my back pack by accident. My mother never told me that what we did was called honesty.
We never talked about the incident. I learned by her example what the right choice was, and it
changed my life forever.
Shakespeare once said, Honesty is the best policy. If I lose my honor, I lose myself. From his
quote, it is clear that Shakespeare thinks honor is more important than anything else in life. Honesty
is a virtue that is uniquely valued by human beings as well by our Heavenly Father. Being honest
often requires courage and sacrifice, especially when others try to persuade us to justify dishonest
behavior.
Being honest ha Pros and Cons and some of them are the following:
Pros:
People respect you and trust you. They know you are a person with integrity.
People want to be your

The Works Of The Renaissance Period
The artist I chose to write my descriptive criticism about is Michelangelo Buonarroti. I chose him
because his style as an artist intrigues me and I wanted to get myself involved with more of his
work. Michelangelo was born in Caprese, Italy in 1475 and died in Rome, Italy 1564 but buried
in Florence . He is a well known sculptor painter, architect, and poet whom never married. The
artist had many great works but there will be three in particular that has caught my eye that will
be the focus of this paper. All of the pieces that I will be discussing are a part of the Renaissance
period . The first piece that I will focus on is called Pieta (1499) in St.Peter s Basilica. This is a
sculpture of what seems to be the virgin Mary and Jesus after he was crucified. This sculpture is
a piece that was unique to me. As I looked at this piece it seemed in away almost life like but the
way he sculpted Mary was bueatifully done. You can see the expression on her face and even the
look of her garments that she wore were very detailed. I noticed the way this painting has a
triangular approach. If u look from the top of her head where her veil starts to flow all the way
to the floor or the feet of her son Jesus that is in the shape of the triangle. The picture shows so
much emotion. It shows Jesus lifeless in his mothers arms. You can see fine details even little nail
marks in his side. Exactly what does this sculpture portray I do not know but I do know that just

Examples Of Being Extrovert Essay
I am not famous, I am extroverted My friends in school think that I am just a normal with no life
at all. However, outside of school, I have a whole different kind of personality which is being
extroverted.I disagree with my friends in school that I have no life and have not many friends.
In my friends perspective, being extroverted means being very famous and is the kind of person
who stands out from the rest, but for me, it just means that I can relate to other people by having
a kind heart and an open mind. The word extrovert came from the Latin word extro meaning
extra and vertere meaning turn. Having said this, the real meaning of the word is if the person
has an attitude of being friendly, sociable, and talkative. However, people who are extroverted
have a different approach of the meaning. These people think that people should be famous to be
extroverted. Being famous leads to having more friends. Having more friends means they have
more social life and they feel that they belong with the cool people. These feeling cool people often

Police Brutality And The Police Essay
Police brutality refers to the use of excessive force against a civilian. The controversies that
surround the topic of police brutality relate to different definitions and expectations over what is
meant by excessive force. Indeed, police officers are expressly authorized to use necessary,
reasonable force to perform their duties. As Jerome Skolnick, an influential policescholar in the
United States, underscores: as long as members of society do not comply with the law and resist
the police, force will remain an inevitable part of policing. (Skolnick and Fyfe 1993). Others
would quickly point out that there is also a difference between legitimate or legal force and
illegitimate or excessive force by the police. However, Minority communities have been
subjected for many decades to violence by those in law enforcement in the United States. One
could argue that the use of force is not only a question of reacting to citizen violations of the law
and resistance, but may also involve an array of actions that do not lawfully conform to the spirit
of the law. Black people have endured violence in many different ways. Furthermore, over the last
two decades, police brutalityhas been a major focus within the media towards Minorities.

profiling, or being disparate against. Police brutality might include, for example, the unlawful

Predestination Essay
Predestination
Predestination, in the dictionary, is said to be the doctrine that God in consequence of his
foreknowledge of all events infallibly guides those who are destined for salvation. Scripture has
2 very good passages for defining what predestination is: Jeremiah 1:5 which says Before I
formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a
prophet to the nations. God is talking about Jeremiah in this passage and how God chose him
before time; he was predestined for his job. Romans 8:28 30 And we know that all things work

That God decreed to leave some in the common misery and not to bestow on them living faith and
the grace of conversion. Calvin also believes that God predestined everything for everything that it
does, such that God predestined me to be writing this report right now for my religion class, so that
this isn t my own free will but it was God s set plan for me. Zanchius, a Reform Theologian, writes
that there is most certainly a double predestination and gives passages to prove through God s
Word that there is no other way. II Cor. 4:3 If our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are
perishing. I Peter 2:8 They stumble because they disobey the message which is also what they
were destined for. II Peter 2:12b #8230;They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only
to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish. Jude 1:4a For certain men who
were marked out for condemnation long ago have secretly slipped among you. He concludes his
arguments by saying that God could not erase a name that has been placed in the book of life or
add a name because it was from eternity. He quotes Luther with, This is the very thing that razes
the doctrine of free will from its foundation, to wit, that God s eternal love of some men and hatred
of others is immutable and cannot be reversed.
The truth about predestination is that God gives man a free will that he doesn t take control of or
manipulate. So an unbeliever has a choice, he can either accept

The Characteristics Of Jesus Christ And The Counseling World
The world is full of counselors, therapists, psychologist, and many more mental help specialists but
what can be difficult is attempting to discover what makes a counselor great. It can be agreed upon
that some of the characteristics that make up a great counselor include, but are not limited to:
empathy, compassion, being nonjudgmental, trust, confidentiality, and commitment. These are all
traits of JesusChrist who is referred to as the Great Counselor. It has taken the mental health
industry decades to even begin to reach the place Jesus reached in His three years of ministry. By
comparing Jesus and the counselingworld one can see why Jesus is referred to as the Great
Counselor and where the counseling world does well in helping individuals but still falls short.
Throughout the Bible we hear Jesus refered to as the Great Counselor, that He is the Messiah,
the Great Healer. The Bible does not merely claim this but later shows the statements to be true
during Jesus ministry. While Jesus was alive on this earth He was criticized for who He chose to
spend time with tax collectors and sinners, the rejects of the society and although Jesus was seen as
above them He did not judge them. Instead He says to the Phariseesquestioning Him in Mark 2:13
17, Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the
righteous, but sinners (New International Version). This passage is clearly referring to salvation but

British Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution in Great Britain began in eighteenth century due to the economic
differences in many areas, the rise of factories, and the advances in technologies. The Industrial
Revolution created a foundation for the modern world s economy and helped advance the world s
markets and industries. It also affected the social system and improved the people s living standard.
Learning about the Industrial Revolutionwill help us understand more about the history of our
prosperous economy.
There were many factors that started the British Industrial Revolution such as economic
differences in rural areas and cities, the rise of many factories which fulfilled the needs for
workers and increased jobs, along with the advancement in technologies which created new
production methods. In rural areas, labours were cheap and many workers became unemployed
and this increased poverty. In cities, the economy was different. Many factories were formed
which created more jobs causing the people in rural areas to leave their towns to work in cities.
Since the majority of people lived in cities and worked in factories, it created the industrial system
(1). During the Industrial Revolution, men, women, and even children needed to work in order to
survive. They worked in dangerous environments and were paid with low wages. Children and

Apathy is generally defined as the absence or suppression of passion, emotion, or excitement (

John Darley and Bibb Latane first demonstrated this effect in 1968 following the murder of Kitty
Genovese. Genovese was murdered in 1964 by Winston Moseley who stabbed her to death near
her home in Queens, New York. Darley and Bibb discovered that the probability of assistance is
inversely related to the number of bystanders present. The more bystanders, the less likely a
person will offer help to a victim in need. In one experiment, Latane and Judith Rodin staged a
distress situation. 70 percent of people, who were alone, offered help to the woman in distress.
However, only 40 percent of people offered help when there were more people present in a room (
Bystander Effect, n.d.). The case of Kitty Genovese further supports our society s growing
societal apathy. Social apathy goes against most religions belief in the Golden Rule, which states,
Do to others as you would have them do to you. To be apathetic in society goes against a human
being s nature. It is virtually impossible to do anything without feeling any form of emotion.
Social apathy reverses altruism and well placed morals in our society. If social apathy were to rise

of sand or deposits of silt (Colten). This basically means that there are salt marshes that were
already in the wetlands and that weren t hurting anything. They are just there because the
Mississippi pulled silt or sand down to the ocean and it built up to create salt water marshes and
then plants that could handle the salt water grew and salt water creatures also started to inhabit
the area. The marshes that were just extensions of the ocean are harmless to the wetlands but
when canals bring in salt water they damage the other marshes that aren t supposed to have salt
in them. When salt water invades the freshwater marshes, the plants start dying off because the
plants can t live in the salty conditions. The fewer plants that are in the wetlands the more
unstable the soil is because the plants root systems hold much of the land together (Barnowski).
The loose soil is then more easily eroded, which connects the vicious circle of erosion and plant
loss (Barnowski). The higher amount of plants that die off by the salt water will cause Louisiana
to lose larger portions of its wetlands. We are already losing about 35 square miles of the coastal
land due to erosion annually (Colten). The salt water doesn t only kill the plant life in the marshes,
it starves the animals living in those marshes as well. The

Kenneth Clarke The Rhetoric Of Persuasion
Family references within messages have influenced me by tugging at my heartstrings with stories
that are relatable. If a film, television show, or even a commercial for a product or charity uses a
narrative that I can identify with through a personal experience, then it almost always seems to
have a stronger emotional impact. This form of identification through a relatable narrative can be
used as a form of persuasion. Kenneth Burke claims that identification is the simplest form of
persuasion in his book, The Rhetoricof Motives. He also states that an audience becomes
vulnerable to persuasion once they relate, understand, feel the same as, or share a common
experience. This is especially true for me when I can identify with a family reference

Christian Leadership Philosophy
The word leadership is defined as a person who directs or guides someone and has the ability to
influence or have an impact on their lives. Christian leadership is distinctively different from other
major leadership conceptions such as instructional, transactional, and transformational leadership
conceptions. Those who live as humble servants of Christ, should assume the position of leadership
in any given community such as CBU s International Service Program (ISP), because you can
turn someone s life around just by your actions and you will be setting an example for believers.
In Mark 16:15 Jesus said, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Doing ISP
plays a role in leadership and you would be doing what God s calling all believers to do. In John
10:11 Jesus declares, I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the
sheep. Within this verse, we see the perfect description of a Christian leader. Jesus is referring to
us as sheep, He was not speaking in affectionate terms. In the bible, sheep rank among the dumbest
animals in creation. The shepherd is the leader of the herd, without him, the sheep are lost,
confused, and disoriented. The shepherd leads, feeds, nurtures, comforts, corrects, and protects his
heard. The shepherd of the Lord s flocks leads by modeling... Show more content on

To summarize, the Anti Globalization Movement is trying to put an end with free transfer or free

this movement were in Mexico, when the Zapatista Army of National Liberation had an uprising
in 1994. Also, when the nonviolent protest in Seattle in front of the World Trade Organization,
became a riot in the city. This movement, over the past decade, has been fizzling away. Every

Complementary and Alternative Medicine in New Zealand
How do people from the general population decide to use complementary and alternative medicine
(CAM) in New Zealand?
Complementary and alternative medicine is a broad domain of healing resources and techniques
that encompass all health systems, modalities, and practices and their accompanying theories and
beliefs, other than those intrinsic to the politically dominant health system of a particular society
or culture in a given historical period. CAM includes all such practices and ideas self defined by
their users as preventing or treating illness or promoting well being (O Connor, Calabrese,
Cardena, 1997). This definition is used by the New Zealand health system as advised by the
Ministerial Advisory Committee on Complementary and Alternative Health (MACCAH) (2004).
New Zealand is lacking CAM research with the results of the 2013 National Census not yet
available. The last National Census figures on CAM were conducted between 2006 and 2007 and
reveal little about the social and psychological dynamics that motivate clients to use CAM
(Ministry of Health, 2008). How could I explore this process? My first choice is for grounded theory
methodology based on the interpretive paradigm.
Interpretive research focuses on how meanings are constructed and maintained by individuals and
groups within different social and historical contexts. As Rubin and Rubin (2012) suggest,
qualitative interviewers examine the complexity of the real world by exploring multiple

Freedom of Speech: Flag Burning Flag burning has been one of the most controversial forms of
nonviolent protests. It is often linked with the Middle East and Hezbollah with depictions of Arabs
against President Bush burning the American flag. Americans are intimidated and threatened by
this action, but that does not make it illegal. Supreme Court rulings have upheld that peaceful flag
desecration is a form of political speech that should be protected by our Constitution (Flag
Burning Myths). This decision is the most logical. Even with all of the disruption this act may

Johnson was punished by having to serve a one year jail sentence and a fine for two thousand
dollars (Oyez). After he paid his fine and served his jail time, he took his case to the Supreme
Court where it was fount that desecration of the flag was protected as a freedom of expression
under the First Amendment (Oyez). This was the landmark case that defined flag burning and the
Courts logically stated that the Government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply
because society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable (Oyez). Flag burning is not intended
to represent violence; that is not to be confused with protest. There needs to be a proper time, place
and valid reason to show support for a certain view. There should be little to no tollerance for
attempts to incite voilence and create a hostile environment (When Hezbollah). A person cannot go
with irrational anger to shove his two cents down the throats of all the surrounding people. Flag
burning is to be thought of more as a demonstration to attract attention and spread around an
ucommon thought reather than a disruption in society. A large group of people have correlating

The Four Advantages Of A Foraging Society
I normally consider myself to be a person who appreciates simplicity, so my initial reaction to this
question was that I would prefer a foraging society to an industrial society. By the time I had
finished thinking it through, however, I was less certain of my preference. Four advantages of a
foraging society that I find particularly compelling (in addition to simplicity, to whatever extent that
assumption is true) relate to humanhealth, populationcontrol, egalitarianism, and sustainability.
The need to hunt and gather for subsistence means that people are active through the day and
unlikely to indulge in laziness and in wasteful overeating habits that can wreak havoc on human
health. Therefore, it stands to reason that lifestyle linked health problems, such as diabetes,
coronary disease, obesity, and in some cases, cancer are less commonplace or non existent in
foraging societies. In an industrial society, we have the technical ability to alter things not intended
for human consumption into food with questionable safety. I m thinking about everything from
aspartame to Twinkies, to genetically modified organisms... there is no shortage of examples of
consumables in an industrialized society that should be considered eat at your own risk. We have
moved away from consuming simple, whole foods and toward an array of fast food habits just
because we can. Unfortunately, the negative health impacts of some of these habits are becoming
clearer all the time.

Sklovsky Art As Device Essay
Viktor Shklovsky: Art as Technique or Art as Device Viktor Borisovich Shklovsky (1893 1984)

Shklovsky was a formalist and closely tied to Russian Formalism; Shklovsky, Boris Eichenbaum,
[Vladimir Propp], Yary Tynyanov, and other Formalists sought to put literary theory on a par with
the natural sciences (Davis 51). For one thing, these gentlemen sought to understand art by breaking

Kholstomer is narrated by a horse, of which Teodor Mladenov says; Human relations are seen
through the eyes of a horse, which defamiliarizes the institution of private property, illuminating its
conventional and contingent character (545). Shklovsky s example highlights the significance of
defamiliarization, and German philosopher Martin Heidegger even claims that: One needs to

Each chapter in the book is a different event that Ellis looks at in attempt to prove his thesis. One
of the arguments Ellis uses is from the chapter The Dinner. During Thomas Jefferson s dinner

return Hamilton agreed to use his influence to assure...the national capital would be on the

Lockes Doctrine of Abstraction
John Locke and George Berkeley are two famous philosophers whose work found similarities in
their proximity of publication, but stark differences in their beliefs. In Locke s Essay Concerning
Human Understanding, he argued passionately for his doctrine of abstract ideas. On the other
hand, Berkeley, in his work, Principles of Human Knowledge, he made every effort to reject all of
Locke s claims. Although viciously attacked by Berkeley, Locke s doctrine of abstraction holds
true as a fundamentally sound and practical doctrine for the advancement of knowledge and
communication. In Book II of Essay, Locke formulates theories on how knowledge is acquired.

Beginning with the inability to abstract argument, followed by the inconsistent and confusing and
ending with unnecessary argument, Berkeley outlines what he believes to be a killing blow to
Locke s doctrine. However, his rejection of abstraction is rather weak. As stated before, Berkeley
begins his rejection of abstraction by stating that the human mind is unable to abstract. He
illustrates his point through a thought experiment, I can consider the hand, the eye, the nose, each
by itself abstracted or separated from the rest of the body. but then whatever hand or eye I
imagine, it must have some particular shape and color...I cannot by any effort of thought conceive
the abstract idea above described. And it is impossible for me to form the abstract idea of motion
distinct from the body moving. (PHK intro 10) In this example, Berkeley demonstrates his attempt
to form a general idea through the process of abstraction. He concludes that the human mind is
unable to accomplish this as it is impossible not to attribute specific and particular qualities to an
idea when abstracting it. This being so, when imaging an idea, one cannot view it in general terms,
but instead can only view it particularly. This argument doesn t really develop any strengths or
weakness for or against Abstraction. If posed with the same thought experiment, Locke would
surely answer that he would be able to form abstract ideas within his mind.

Parks and Recreation Districts
GENERAL PARKS AND RECREATION DISTRICTS
The use of special districts to administer parks and recreation services originates from a
successful experiment by New York City in SSSS. The city created a commission to depoliticize
the provision of parks and recreation services, which led to the development of Central Park.
Following this model of success, a number of states now have some form of park district that span a
range of services, including open space protection, land conservation, environmental education,
and leisure activities. Local governments increasingly offload parks and recreation
responsibilities to special districts because they require large capital investments and they benefit
from district boundaries drawn according to public use. The impact of tax limitations and
pressure on general funds also encourages development of park districts. Flickinger and Murphy
() provide insight from a park director in Illinois who believes special taxing status is essential
because park and recreation departments tend to take a back seat to streets, police, fire, utilities,
and other mandatory services when time came to set or cut budgets and hire qualified personnel
(1990, p. 153).Though parks and recreation are a common form of district, research evaluating its
success is limited in both quantity and scope.

Challenges Of Air Freight Demand And Potential Solutions...
Challenges in Air Freight Demand and Potential Solutions
1.Introduction
Air freight market is not stable and might be weak because of uncertain international trade increase
(Barnard,2015). There was fluctuation in air cargo demand over the last 10 years from 2006 to
2016 which indicates that cargo demand could be changed by some external and internal influences.
Some figures were released about worldwide air freight market and presented that air cargo
capacity increased 2.2%, comparing to 2014. While this was the 5% growth calculated by The
International Air TransportAssociation (IATA), the growth of cargo volumes in 2015 was much
slower than 2014(Barnard, 2015). However, some experts pointed out that global air freight market
get a positive growth from 2011, and it is enjoying a relatively steady growth, due to the enhanced
trade and economic recovery after the global financial crisis of 2008(Huang,2016). Because of
sluggish world trade growth, air cargo suppliers face a lot of challenges including alternative
transportation, perspective uncertainty and unexpected policy and here are some potential
solutions: improving customers service, efficiency, security and reducing negative environmental
impacts.
This essay attempts to describe current air freight market conditions, challenges in air freight
demand and generate potential solutions to increase air cargo demand. It is divided into four parts:

The Effects Of Controlled Burns On Rangelands
The Effects of Controlled Burns on Rangelands

Abstract
There are many different techniques or methods used to manage rangelands. These methods have
been implemented to improve the health of a rangeland. One such technique that has been found to
be beneficial is controlled burning. Controlled burning can help improve rangelands for both
livestock and wildlife if managed properly. This is done by burning an area which kills undesirable
woody species, giving desirable, native grass species a chance to bounce back, as they can be
choked out by these competing woody species. Controlled burning can also have negative effects

(Ledbetter, 2010). The focus of this study was observing the effects of summer patch fires on the
reduction of unwanted woody plants and prickly pear cacti. In this study, patches were burned
rather than burning pastures as a whole to allow livestock to continue to graze in other areas
simultaneously with the controlled burns. These burns took place in the summer rather than the
winter because, prescribed fire in the summer is more effective in controlling unwanted woody
plants and prickly pear cactus than winter fires because they burn hotter (Ledbetter, 2010). The
results indicated that if controlled burning and rotational grazing are carefully managed, success in
reducing the number of unwanted plants can be achieved (Ledbetter, 2010). Sometimes the public
s opinion about burning rangelands and regulations can influence the ability of landowners and
range managers to perform controlled burns. Many of the grasslands and areas managers wish to
burn have adapted to occasional fires and native grasses can recover quite well, while unwanted
woody species are reduced. Suppression of controlled burns, many times because of the public s
opinion, can lead to an increase in these woody species, competing for nutrients with native grasses.
If controlled burns continue to be suppressed by the public and

Bruce Dawe The Homecoming Analysis
The concluding line in Bruce Dawe s The Homecoming , complements the respectful and, at times,
resentful tone the speaker adopts. Opening with a comparatively broad statement; they are bringing
them home alludes to the story of the soldiers decent home. Moreover, by utilising the phrase they ,
the anonymity of the soldiers is also augmented, leaving the reader to again question who exactly
they are. Being brought home a place that symbolises love/family, was a nationwide debate at the
time of the Vietnam War. Protests were all over the country, arguing for the return of our soldiers
to safety. Only this wasn t about the soldiers family they were dead home was just a way of
saying: out of danger. A long pause, then follows,

Philosophy of Education Essay
Philosophy of Education
One of the most privileged professions in the world today is teaching. Teachers can influence the
youth of a culture in a way no one else can. Teachers have the honorable responsibility of education.
Students develop mentally, socially, and ethically within the realm of academic education. While in
this critical stage of development, students are given the laboratory of the classroom to test
themselves in ways that are more risky after graduation. Teachers play a crucial rolein this
laboratory. I believe that the most important way I can serve my students while fulfilling this role is
to have positive expectations, to continually reflect on my teaching habits and performance, and to

I will treat these students as if they will eventually change perspectives, even if they never do.
Treating all students with respect, I believe that having high expectations and recognizing each
student s positive potential will contribute greatly to the students I teach.
My performance as a teacher is also very important. I believe in continually reflecting on my
teaching practices and improving them as I accommodate to each new class. My teaching habits,
such as organization, consistency, and effective classroom management, will always need to be
revised and improved to create the best classroom learning environment. Meeting national, state,
regional, and school academic standards are also very important to me. As an employee of the
state, I feel obligated to do my best to teach the required knowledge effectively, through creative
activities that are accommodating to all learners. I hold a very high standard for myself
professionally, and hope to constantly improve my teaching strategies through reflection.
Through literature, students can be empowered with the knowledge that no one person could teach
them. Knowledge gained through literature not only prepares students to live in a world where
reading and writing proficiency are required for success, but also helps students mature emotionally,
mentally, and socially. Through the middle and high school years, students

A Sword Of Justice Or Just Ice

A Sword of Justice or Just Ice
With great power comes great responsibility. Although he would appear to replay Who cares? to
this, Hamlet, one of literature s most famous and powerful users of wit is actually using his wit to
further his ambitious cause. Through the use of Hamlet s wordplay, Shakespeare reveals the true
nature of Hamlet s inner self as well as his relationships with the other characters within the play.
Hamlet s diction reflects his relationship with the person he is speaking to when he uses
wordplay. For example, he tells Claudius that he is A little more than kin but less than kind.
(1,2,65) Translated, this is a play on words as he is refuting Claudius s previous statement about
Hamlet being his son. The definedly hostile relationship Hamlet has towards Claudius is easily
seen through his wordplay, but the meaning is taken simply at face value by the rest of the
characters who are clueless to Hamlet s true intentions. This idea is stressed in Hamlet s follow up
statement that his too much in the sun (1,2,67), another pun that shows his hostility to Claudius.
This idea of Hamlet s connection between the Sun and Claudius is seen again in his encounter
with Polonius when he says, For if the sun breed maggots in dead dog, being a good kissing
carrion have you a daughter? (2,2,180 181). This statement irrevocably connects Ophelia, Polonius
s daughter to the sun or Claudius as

Analysis Of From Russia With Love
From Russia With Love (1963), directed by Terence Young is the second film in the James Bond
movie franchise. Sean Connery and Robert Shaw headline the film s actors. This film is a spy
thriller with twists and turns and puts James Bond into a position of entrapment and must use his
brains to escape and get back to England alive. From Russia With Love is a timeless classic
through its new standards of filmmaking and characters. This movie also sets the tone for the rest
of the James Bondseries.
The first reason why this film is a classic is because of the introduction of spy gadgets for James
Bond. Bond today is partly known for his use of gadgets to get out of tough situations. This is the
first Bond film that uses these.
When Bond is getting orders to go to Turkey for his mission, he is brought a briefcase that has
hidden knives on the sides and has to be open a different way than normal in order for the opener
of the case not to be sprayed with tear gas. These tools will help him later in the film multiple
when he is in the face of danger.
This scene sets the tone not for just this film but for the many other popular movies of this
franchise through the use of gadgets. A large reason why many people enjoy James Bond is
because of astonishing use of these tools. With help of these gadgets, this movie can be considered
a classic because of the memorable fights in the film.
As with all spy films, there are going to be fight to the death scenes. Although it is predictable
who will win in these films, directors can still make these scenes very suspenseful and exciting.
Young does this exactly in this film with a very memorable fight scene that could be considered
one of the best of all films.
Bond seems to be trapped for good this time when he is in the train car with Donald Grant who
was a gun pointed at Bond. Bond starts talking to Grant and eventually convinces Grant to take
the 50 gold sovereigns. When Grant opens the briefcase, which is given to Bond with spy gadgets,
he is met with a plume of tear gas. This starts the fight as Bond gets up to take the gun. A fight
ensues, going across the small train car and eventually making Bond the winner by killing Grant.
The fight however did

Introduction to computer forensics

The employee s computer may also contain valuable information that can be extracted about the
downloading of the information. All of these avenues will provide a chain of auditable evidence
against the employee in question and could result in his dismissal as well as other civil legal action.
The third scenario involves the theft of a laptop computer. On October 31, 2012 there was a
security breach reported by NASA that a laptop computer was stolen from an employee s vehicle
that contained personal data on ten thousand users and was unencrypted. NASA immediately began
working with local law enforcement after the laptop was stolen, with the goal of recovering the
computer and protecting the sensitive data (Vijayan, 2012).
Information provided by IT Security about the serial number of the laptop and other identifying
features should have been well documented before the laptop ever left the NASA facility.
Computer forensics personal also would have had to investigate the people who will be affected
by the information on the stolen laptop so they can be informed and take appropriate action to
protect their identities. If the laptop is ever retrieved, computer forensics personal will need to
investigate to see if any sensitive information was accessed while the computer was missing and
what information was copied or changed.

Montague And Capulets Speech
This speech made by prince Escalus reveals a lot about the plot to the reader. The audience that
is stated in the beginning in the speech are his rebellious subjects, which refers to the members
of the Montague and Capulet families. Just before the prince came, a fight between the two
groups broke out, mostly due to an insult given by the capulets, which caused Escalus to have to
come and end the conflict. Escalus refers to the two families as , Rebellious subjects, enemies to
peace , and says, Profaners of this neighbor stainГЁd steel! Will they not hear? What, ho! You men,
you beasts. This means that the Montagues and Capulets are seen as people who disrupt the peace
and as beasts who take out their anger by killing each other. By using

The Beef With Antibiotics
The Beef with Antibiotics
In recent years, Americans have been blaming antibiotics used in animals to be processed for food
for many of the growing number of health problems in developed countries. Fast food restaurants
are making movements to remove antibiotic treated meats from their menus. This movement is
causing quite the stir in consumers and livestock producers alike. Do the antibiotics used in beef
really contribute to antibiotic resistant diseases? Should antibiotics be outlawed in the use of farm
animals? The eradication of antibiotic use in America s beef industry is not feasible due to its
usage in the treatment and control of deadly or discomforting diseases.
Presently, speculations have risen about the amount of antibiotics used in the livestock industry and
the desire to consume antibiotic free meats. What is not understood, however, is the USDA has
been monitoring the amount of antimicrobial residue in meats for several years. If unsafe levels are
detected the meat is not allowed to be sold for human consumption. Yet, fast food chains such as
Subway and Chipotle are claiming to go completely antibiotic free within the next decade. The
practicality of this becoming a reality is slim due to the need to control, treat, and prevent diseases.
To truly understand the importance of the antibiotic usage in cattle it must first be understood what
antibiotics are and the reasons they are used. Additionally, the use of vaccinations should be taken
into account for the

Beauty And Truth In Emily Dickinson s X. Died For Beauty
A plethora deem the necessity to be remembered for something after death and that one will be
forever remembered. Some people donate their entire lives to a cause or charity, but in the end is
it really worth it? X. Died for Beauty by Emily Dickinson, represents that what one lives for and
eventually died because is not preeminent in the end. Spending one s entire life solely on one thing
will eventually be the end of ourselves. Beauty and truth are scarce , but are brethren . Finding a
person is truly beautiful inside and outside is as rare finding out the truth. Beauty and truth are
related to the fact that one should be true to themselves. The moss had reached our lips and

Report on Refugee Rights in Australia
Background of Refugee Rights Political Movement
Since 2000, both the refugee rights political movement in Australia as a whole as well as the
Australian National Committee on Refugee Women (ANCORW) have primarily been focused on
key issues such as the differential treatment of asylum seekers based on how they arrived in
Australia or apply for protection, the Pacific and Malaysian solution, the detention of asylum
seekers and combating the view that boat arrivals are not genuine refugees . Although there are
many other concerns, the issues listed above are the major ones.
In the first instance, refugee right groups are trying to minimize the difference in the way onshore
and offshore asylum seekers are processed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to that, ANCORW raises money to enable refugee women in Australia to attend these
conventions to advocate for the needs of their communities on behalf of all refugee women.
Educational Resources
As a means of raising awareness in the general public about the lives of refugees, in 2009,
ANCORW launched an education resource which highlights the inspiring contributions and
successes of refugees settling in Australia. Title, Celebration of Refugee Lives : Stories of Strength
and Resilience , it contains a film, book and short training program. The aim of this education
resource is to enhance the public s understanding of refugee experience and to dispel the
exaggerated myth that refugees only bring negative social and economic problems.
Improving Settlement
In 2010, ANCROW and the CRR initiated a project to explore the difficulties faced by refugee
families and identify steps to improve family settlement outcomes. Past projects found that the
issues of family conflict, violence and separation in settlement have become one of the most
pressing problems experienced by refugee families settling in Australia. This is exacerbated by other
challenges such as inadequate and overcrowded housing, language difficulties, unemployment and
trouble adjusting to a new culture. This project aims to research these problems and provide

It was with a help of a charted accountant that I was able to accomplish this with actual numbers from my workplace so all the information is based on true numbers. Analysis Of Zitkala-Sa Assimilation Zitkala Sa s Assimilation Barriers By 1860, there were 60 missionary schools which were not known for most American societies because they were not mentioned in the U.S. history, and there were 6200 Native Americans children in it. Cultural assimilation is the process of taking in, fully understanding and absorbing information or ideas. There are two factors which hindered Zitkala Sa assimilation to the European American culture. The first factor is how people from different cultures inhabit different nonverbal sensory worlds, and the second one is judging people based on their own culture and standards. The story of the song ten little Indians started in a missionary school in the U.S. where Zitkala Sa choose to study at. She was a writer, teacher, violinist, and activist for Native American rights. She was one of the Native American who suffered through her childhood in the missionary school, and she was treated badly from European American in a forcing way to accept the new culture and do what they told her to do. However, the text was categorized in three main sections each of which is describing her life in the missionary school. Overall, Zitkala Sa did not assimilate completely to European American culture because of misinterpreting of non verbal signs and symbols and having the tendency to evaluate. • 5. Midst Of Weakness Essay God: There in the Midst of Weakness It was my senior year of high school in the small town of Gardendale, Alabama. This was the year the girls varsity soccer team was expected to go all the way to the finals, and make a hard run at the state championship title. We had made it to the third round, and after this game we were heading north to Huntsville, Alabama for the quarter finals. Except, in an instant, this all changed after one practice, two days before our game, when our principal showed up with some heartbreaking news. We no longer had a shot at the championship title because someone on our team had broken the rules; therefore, we had been kicked out of the playoffs. This filled me with anger, hatred, and resentment towards that one person. I became a very bitter version of myself until God showed me a new path to walk down in the following week. My story beings on the Friday night before our first playoff game. My dad asked me to go to our city soccer fields to get a corner flag for the game tomorrow at the school. When I got to the fields one of my best friends texts me and says, Hey! Are high school players allowed to play on teams other than the high school team? I was confused. No they are definitely not, but was she talking about one of my teammates or someone we were supposed to play against? I storm out onto the field to see if I know who is breaking such a big rule and my mind is blown when I see one of my own teammates out on the field playing. So much is running through my mind, Do I say something to her? Do I tell my coach? What will this do to our chances of playing in the championship? All these thoughts, yet I stand on the field frozen from anger at the fact that this person thinks it s okay to break a rule in order to benefit herself. So I did what anyone like me would do and I confronted her, Do you really think it is okay that you are out here playing when our high school season is still going on? She stares at me with no emotion on her face, says absolutely nothing, and just walks away acting as if she had done no wrong. I left the fields that night with all those questions about what to do still circling about in my mind and some new thoughts popping up, I am the only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Stanford Prison Experiment At Stanford University I. Introduction: Imagine that the year is 1971, and you are a male college student at Stanford University in California. Like most college kids, you are strapped for cash, so you begin to seek a part time job. You see an ad for a psychology study that pays $15 per day posted in the local newspaper, and decide to submit an application. Little do you know at the time, that the study you are applying for will become known worldwide and create such an impact that it remains relevant over 44 years later. This infamous study is known today as the Stanford Prison Experiment. The experiment was led by psychology professor Dr. Philip Zimbardo along with his team of researchers in the basement of the psychology building at Stanford University. Today, I am going to speak about why the experiment was conducted, what occurred during the experiment, and the ethical implications that resulted because of this notorious study. II. Why the Experiment Was Conducted: I will begin by explaining why the Stanford Prison Experiment was conducted. Dr. Philip Zimbardo and his research team sought to examine the effect that social institutions and certain situations have on an individual s behavior. According to the American Psychological Association, a situation centered approach to studying human behavior, focuses on factors external to the person (American Psychological Association). More specifically, Zimbardo wanted to study how quickly an individual would conform to the role of prisoner or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Sound Waves Allow Us to Hear Have you ever sat down and wondered why you can hear things? How sounds form? What are the different components? This all happens because of sound waves. Sound Waves are disturbances that go from one place to another in a medium. An example of this could be a Slinky. when it is all stretched out the slinky would be at equilibrium. Then a particle in the slinky moves in any direction and makes a disturbance. A pulse allows you to see the disturbance that is happening from both ends of the slinky . when a pulse is repeated continuously through the slinky then it is a wave. A medium is where the wave is carried and held from one end to the other. it only transports the wave, it does not make it The medium plays the role of the slinky in the example from the above paragraph. Mediums can be different depending on the location. For example the ocean water would be the medium of the wave is traveling in the water, the medium is the air if it is a soundwave. The only reason disturbances can get through the medium is because there are parts in the medium that interact with each other. Going back to the slinky example, the coils are the interacting parts of it. And in air the molecules are the interacting pairs. the medium is full of connected particles that go moving each other. The particles in the medium are not always moving, they go back to their normal equilibrium position because they have a constant force on them that makes them do that. Wavesare not matter , they ... • 9. ##arison Of Creon In Sophocles Dante s Inferno In Dante s Inferno, King Minos uses his power to condemn humans to hell based on their sins. King Minos seeks to use his power wisely, but Creon, King of Thebes in Sophocles Antigone puts power over family. Creon s self ambition is the driving force behind many of his ill fated decisions. For example, this flaw of excess greed inspires Creon to commit crimes against his own niece and son that result in a tragic ending for all involved. Thus, SophoclesCreon belongs in Circle Eight of Hellwith the Sowers of Discord. First, King Minos defines each individual based upon their tragic flaw. This comes from Greek roots because a fatal flaw is a weakness by the character that brings apart their downfall. 1 This is the first step in passing judgement on Creon. Creon s tragic flaw is his pride and his over ambition. Creon himself admits this, That is true.... It troubles me. Oh it is hard to give in! but it is worse to risk everything for stubborn pride. 2 Pride is very dangerous because that leads to his over ambition. Aristotle argues the need to have proper pride. When a person is in excess, they are too prideful and their deficiency is that they are too short of humility.3 This excess in pride entices Creon to test out his power, so once Creon gets hold of power, he is very unlikely to give it up. Creon s tragic flaw of pride and over ambition led to his downfall and his place in hell. Since Creon has a tragic flaw, he cannot be in Limbo with the Virtuous. In his Nicomachean ... Honesty is the foundation upon which a person builds any relationship with their loved ones such as family or friends. Being honest to loved ones, will make them feel that they are trustworthy and close enough for to reveal their feelings. Honesty plays an important role in raising children to be good citizens. I found it, not my mother. Then she said, Tomorrow we will go to school and give it back to whoever this money belongs to. Tomorrow came and there we were, in the Principal s office. I remember the reaction of the Principal. She was crying like a river, kissing my mother, and thanking her over and over for her honesty and the great example she was to me. At that the moment I understood why she wanted to give the money back. It belonged to the Principal who put the folder on my desk, while she was giving the last minute announcement the day before. I had been in a hurry and I shoved the folder in my back pack by accident. My mother never told me that what we did was called honesty. We never talked about the incident. I learned by her example what the right choice was, and it changed my life forever. Shakespeare once said, Honesty is the best policy. If I lose my honor, I lose myself. From his quote, it is clear that Shakespeare thinks honor is more important than anything else in life. Honesty is a virtue that is uniquely valued by human beings as well by our Heavenly Father. Being honest often requires courage and sacrifice, especially when others try to persuade us to justify dishonest behavior. Being honest ha Pros and Cons and some of them are the following: Pros: People respect you and trust you. They know you are a person with integrity. People want to be your ... • 11. The Works Of The Renaissance Period The artist I chose to write my descriptive criticism about is Michelangelo Buonarroti. I chose him because his style as an artist intrigues me and I wanted to get myself involved with more of his work. Michelangelo was born in Caprese, Italy in 1475 and died in Rome, Italy 1564 but buried in Florence . He is a well known sculptor painter, architect, and poet whom never married. The artist had many great works but there will be three in particular that has caught my eye that will be the focus of this paper. All of the pieces that I will be discussing are a part of the Renaissance period . The first piece that I will focus on is called Pieta (1499) in St.Peter s Basilica. This is a sculpture of what seems to be the virgin Mary and Jesus after he was crucified. This sculpture is a piece that was unique to me. As I looked at this piece it seemed in away almost life like but the way he sculpted Mary was bueatifully done. You can see the expression on her face and even the look of her garments that she wore were very detailed. I noticed the way this painting has a triangular approach. If u look from the top of her head where her veil starts to flow all the way to the floor or the feet of her son Jesus that is in the shape of the triangle. The picture shows so much emotion. It shows Jesus lifeless in his mothers arms. You can see fine details even little nail marks in his side. Exactly what does this sculpture portray I do not know but I do know that just from ... However, outside of school, I have a whole different kind of personality which is being extroverted.I disagree with my friends in school that I have no life and have not many friends. In my friends perspective, being extroverted means being very famous and is the kind of person who stands out from the rest, but for me, it just means that I can relate to other people by having a kind heart and an open mind. The word extrovert came from the Latin word extro meaning extra and vertere meaning turn. Having said this, the real meaning of the word is if the person has an attitude of being friendly, sociable, and talkative. However, people who are extroverted have a different approach of the meaning. These people think that people should be famous to be extroverted. Being famous leads to having more friends. • 13. Police Brutality And The Police Essay Police brutality refers to the use of excessive force against a civilian. The controversies that surround the topic of police brutality relate to different definitions and expectations over what is meant by excessive force. Indeed, police officers are expressly authorized to use necessary, reasonable force to perform their duties. As Jerome Skolnick, an influential policescholar in the United States, underscores: as long as members of society do not comply with the law and resist the police, force will remain an inevitable part of policing. (Skolnick and Fyfe 1993). Others would quickly point out that there is also a difference between legitimate or legal force and illegitimate or excessive force by the police. However, Minority communities have been subjected for many decades to violence by those in law enforcement in the United States. One could argue that the use of force is not only a question of reacting to citizen violations of the law and resistance, but may also involve an array of actions that do not lawfully conform to the spirit of the law. Black people have endured violence in many different ways. Furthermore, over the last two decades, police brutalityhas been a major focus within the media towards Minorities. Predestination Essay Predestination Predestination, in the dictionary, is said to be the doctrine that God in consequence of his foreknowledge of all events infallibly guides those who are destined for salvation. Scripture has 2 very good passages for defining what predestination is: Jeremiah 1:5 which says Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. God is talking about Jeremiah in this passage and how God chose him before time; he was predestined for his job. Calvin also believes that God predestined everything for everything that it does, such that God predestined me to be writing this report right now for my religion class, so that this isn t my own free will but it was God s set plan for me. Zanchius, a Reform Theologian, writes that there is most certainly a double predestination and gives passages to prove through God s Word that there is no other way. II Cor. 4:3 If our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. I Peter 2:8 They stumble because they disobey the message which is also what they were destined for. He concludes his arguments by saying that God could not erase a name that has been placed in the book of life or add a name because it was from eternity. He quotes Luther with, This is the very thing that razes the doctrine of free will from its foundation, to wit, that God s eternal love of some men and hatred of others is immutable and cannot be reversed. • 16. The Characteristics Of Jesus Christ And The Counseling World The world is full of counselors, therapists, psychologist, and many more mental help specialists but what can be difficult is attempting to discover what makes a counselor great. It can be agreed upon that some of the characteristics that make up a great counselor include, but are not limited to: empathy, compassion, being nonjudgmental, trust, confidentiality, and commitment. These are all traits of JesusChrist who is referred to as the Great Counselor. It has taken the mental health industry decades to even begin to reach the place Jesus reached in His three years of ministry. By comparing Jesus and the counselingworld one can see why Jesus is referred to as the Great Counselor and where the counseling world does well in helping individuals but still falls short. Throughout the Bible we hear Jesus refered to as the Great Counselor, that He is the Messiah, the Great Healer. The Bible does not merely claim this but later shows the statements to be true during Jesus ministry. While Jesus was alive on this earth He was criticized for who He chose to spend time with tax collectors and sinners, the rejects of the society and although Jesus was seen as above them He did not judge them. Instead He says to the Phariseesquestioning Him in Mark 2:13 17, Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. British Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution in Great Britain began in eighteenth century due to the economic differences in many areas, the rise of factories, and the advances in technologies. The Industrial Revolution created a foundation for the modern world s economy and helped advance the world s markets and industries. It also affected the social system and improved the people s living standard. Learning about the Industrial Revolutionwill help us understand more about the history of our prosperous economy. There were many factors that started the British Industrial Revolution such as economic differences in rural areas and cities, the rise of many factories which fulfilled the needs for workers and increased jobs, along with the advancement in technologies which created new production methods. In rural areas, labours were cheap and many workers became unemployed and this increased poverty. In cities, the economy was different. Many factories were formed which created more jobs causing the people in rural areas to leave their towns to work in cities. Since the majority of people lived in cities and worked in factories, it created the industrial system (1). During the Industrial Revolution, men, women, and even children needed to work in order to survive. They worked in dangerous environments and were paid with low wages. Children and women were favored to work in coal mining industry because they were slim. They suffered severe contamination And children were abused for what was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Helen Keller s beautifully articulated words reflect the abnormality of apathy among human beings. Apathy is neither a deadly disease that solely attacks the weak nor a problem faced by certain groups of people. Apathyaffects humanity as a whole, striking human beings regardless of race, religion, and culture. Apathy is generally defined as the absence or suppression of passion, emotion, or excitement ( Apathy, n.d.). Genovese was murdered in 1964 by Winston Moseley who stabbed her to death near her home in Queens, New York. Darley and Bibb discovered that the probability of assistance is inversely related to the number of bystanders present. The more bystanders, the less likely a person will offer help to a victim in need. In one experiment, Latane and Judith Rodin staged a distress situation. 70 percent of people, who were alone, offered help to the woman in distress. However, only 40 percent of people offered help when there were more people present in a room ( Bystander Effect, n.d.). The case of Kitty Genovese further supports our society s growing societal apathy. Social apathy goes against most religions belief in the Golden Rule, which states, Do to others as you would have them do to you. To be apathetic in society goes against a human being s nature. It is virtually impossible to do anything without feeling any form of emotion. Social apathy reverses altruism and well placed morals in our society. Saltwater Effects On The Wetlands Saltwater Effects on the Wetlands In John Grisham s The Pelican Brief, He brings up oil and gas companies drilling in the wetlands, which is destroying them, and I decided to investigate further about how these companies have been damaging the environment. The main way that the wetlands are being killed is from the salt water that is intruding into the marshes from the canals, that gas and oil companies use, are the way that most salt water gets so deep inside the wetlands (Barnowski). The state s many salt water lakes were once extensions of the sea that become cut off by ridges of sand or deposits of silt (Colten). This basically means that there are salt marshes that were already in the wetlands and that weren t hurting anything. They are just there because the Mississippi pulled silt or sand down to the ocean and it built up to create salt water marshes and then plants that could handle the salt water grew and salt water creatures also started to inhabit the area. The marshes that were just extensions of the ocean are harmless to the wetlands but when canals bring in salt water they damage the other marshes that aren t supposed to have salt in them. When salt water invades the freshwater marshes, the plants start dying off because the plants can t live in the salty conditions. The fewer plants that are in the wetlands the more unstable the soil is because the plants root systems hold much of the land together (Barnowski). The loose soil is then more easily eroded, which connects the vicious circle of erosion and plant loss (Barnowski). The higher amount of plants that die off by the salt water will cause Louisiana to lose larger portions of its wetlands. We are already losing about 35 square miles of the coastal land due to erosion annually (Colten). If a film, television show, or even a commercial for a product or charity uses a narrative that I can identify with through a personal experience, then it almost always seems to have a stronger emotional impact. This form of identification through a relatable narrative can be used as a form of persuasion. Kenneth Burke claims that identification is the simplest form of persuasion in his book, The Rhetoricof Motives. Christian leadership is distinctively different from other major leadership conceptions such as instructional, transactional, and transformational leadership conceptions. Those who live as humble servants of Christ, should assume the position of leadership in any given community such as CBU s International Service Program (ISP), because you can turn someone s life around just by your actions and you will be setting an example for believers. In Mark 16:15 Jesus said, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Doing ISP plays a role in leadership and you would be doing what God s calling all believers to do. In John 10:11 Jesus declares, I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. Within this verse, we see the perfect description of a Christian leader. Jesus is referring to us as sheep, He was not speaking in affectionate terms. In the bible, sheep rank among the dumbest animals in creation. Complementary and alternative medicine is a broad domain of healing resources and techniques that encompass all health systems, modalities, and practices and their accompanying theories and beliefs, other than those intrinsic to the politically dominant health system of a particular society or culture in a given historical period. CAM includes all such practices and ideas self defined by their users as preventing or treating illness or promoting well being (O Connor, Calabrese, Cardena, 1997). This definition is used by the New Zealand health system as advised by the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Complementary and Alternative Health (MACCAH) (2004). New Zealand is lacking CAM research with the results of the 2013 National Census not yet available. The last National Census figures on CAM were conducted between 2006 and 2007 and reveal little about the social and psychological dynamics that motivate clients to use CAM (Ministry of Health, 2008). How could I explore this process? My first choice is for grounded theory methodology based on the interpretive paradigm. The Four Advantages Of A Foraging Society I normally consider myself to be a person who appreciates simplicity, so my initial reaction to this question was that I would prefer a foraging society to an industrial society. By the time I had finished thinking it through, however, I was less certain of my preference. Four advantages of a foraging society that I find particularly compelling (in addition to simplicity, to whatever extent that assumption is true) relate to humanhealth, populationcontrol, egalitarianism, and sustainability. The need to hunt and gather for subsistence means that people are active through the day and unlikely to indulge in laziness and in wasteful overeating habits that can wreak havoc on human health. Therefore, it stands to reason that lifestyle linked health problems, such as diabetes, coronary disease, obesity, and in some cases, cancer are less commonplace or non existent in foraging societies. In an industrial society, we have the technical ability to alter things not intended for human consumption into food with questionable safety. I m thinking about everything from aspartame to Twinkies, to genetically modified organisms... there is no shortage of examples of consumables in an industrialized society that should be considered eat at your own risk. He illustrates his point through a thought experiment, I can consider the hand, the eye, the nose, each by itself abstracted or separated from the rest of the body. but then whatever hand or eye I imagine, it must have some particular shape and color...I cannot by any effort of thought conceive the abstract idea above described. And it is impossible for me to form the abstract idea of motion distinct from the body moving. (PHK intro 10) In this example, Berkeley demonstrates his attempt to form a general idea through the process of abstraction. He concludes that the human mind is unable to accomplish this as it is impossible not to attribute specific and particular qualities to an idea when abstracting it. This being so, when imaging an idea, one cannot view it in general terms, but instead can only view it particularly. This argument doesn t really develop any strengths or weakness for or against Abstraction. If posed with the same thought experiment, Locke would surely answer that he would be able to form abstract ideas within his mind. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Parks and Recreation Districts GENERAL PARKS AND RECREATION DISTRICTS The use of special districts to administer parks and recreation services originates from a successful experiment by New York City in SSSS. The city created a commission to depoliticize the provision of parks and recreation services, which led to the development of Central Park. Following this model of success, a number of states now have some form of park district that span a range of services, including open space protection, land conservation, environmental education, and leisure activities. Local governments increasingly offload parks and recreation responsibilities to special districts because they require large capital investments and they benefit from district boundaries drawn according to public use. The impact of tax limitations and pressure on general funds also encourages development of park districts. Flickinger and Murphy () provide insight from a park director in Illinois who believes special taxing status is essential because park and recreation departments tend to take a back seat to streets, police, fire, utilities, and other mandatory services when time came to set or cut budgets and hire qualified personnel (1990, p. 153).Though parks and recreation are a common form of district, research evaluating its success is limited in both quantity and scope. • 43. Challenges Of Air Freight Demand And Potential Solutions... Challenges in Air Freight Demand and Potential Solutions 1.Introduction Air freight market is not stable and might be weak because of uncertain international trade increase (Barnard,2015). There was fluctuation in air cargo demand over the last 10 years from 2006 to 2016 which indicates that cargo demand could be changed by some external and internal influences. Some figures were released about worldwide air freight market and presented that air cargo capacity increased 2.2%, comparing to 2014. While this was the 5% growth calculated by The International Air TransportAssociation (IATA), the growth of cargo volumes in 2015 was much slower than 2014(Barnard, 2015). However, some experts pointed out that global air freight market get a positive growth from 2011, and it is enjoying a relatively steady growth, due to the enhanced trade and economic recovery after the global financial crisis of 2008(Huang,2016). • 44. The Effects Of Controlled Burns On Rangelands The Effects of Controlled Burns on Rangelands Shane J. Methvin BYU Idaho Abstract There are many different techniques or methods used to manage rangelands. These methods have been implemented to improve the health of a rangeland. One such technique that has been found to be beneficial is controlled burning. Controlled burning can help improve rangelands for both livestock and wildlife if managed properly. This is done by burning an area which kills undesirable woody species, giving desirable, native grass species a chance to bounce back, as they can be choked out by these competing woody species. Controlled burning can also have negative effects as well if managed improperly. If controlled burns are managed properly, the overall... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such was the case in the study conducted by a Texas AgriLife Research Range ecologist (Ledbetter, 2010). The focus of this study was observing the effects of summer patch fires on the reduction of unwanted woody plants and prickly pear cacti. In this study, patches were burned rather than burning pastures as a whole to allow livestock to continue to graze in other areas simultaneously with the controlled burns. These burns took place in the summer rather than the winter because, prescribed fire in the summer is more effective in controlling unwanted woody plants and prickly pear cactus than winter fires because they burn hotter (Ledbetter, 2010). The results indicated that if controlled burning and rotational grazing are carefully managed, success in reducing the number of unwanted plants can be achieved (Ledbetter, 2010). Sometimes the public s opinion about burning rangelands and regulations can influence the ability of landowners and range managers to perform controlled burns. Many of the grasslands and areas managers wish to burn have adapted to occasional fires and native grasses can recover quite well, while unwanted woody species are reduced. Suppression of controlled burns, many times because of the public s opinion, can lead to an increase in these woody species, competing for nutrients with native grasses. If controlled burns continue to be suppressed by the public and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moreover, by utilising the phrase they , the anonymity of the soldiers is also augmented, leaving the reader to again question who exactly they are. Although he would appear to replay Who cares? to this, Hamlet, one of literature s most famous and powerful users of wit is actually using his wit to further his ambitious cause. Through the use of Hamlet s wordplay, Shakespeare reveals the true nature of Hamlet s inner self as well as his relationships with the other characters within the play. Hamlet s diction reflects his relationship with the person he is speaking to when he uses wordplay. For example, he tells Claudius that he is A little more than kin but less than kind. (1,2,65) Translated, this is a play on words as he is refuting Claudius s previous statement about Hamlet being his son. The definedly hostile relationship Hamlet has towards Claudius is easily seen through his wordplay, but the meaning is taken simply at face value by the rest of the characters who are clueless to Hamlet s true intentions. This idea is stressed in Hamlet s follow up statement that his too much in the sun (1,2,67), another pun that shows his hostility to Claudius. This idea of Hamlet s connection between the Sun and Claudius is seen again in his encounter with Polonius when he says, For if the sun breed maggots in dead dog, being a good kissing carrion have you a daughter? • 51. The Beef With Antibiotics The Beef with Antibiotics In recent years, Americans have been blaming antibiotics used in animals to be processed for food for many of the growing number of health problems in developed countries. Fast food restaurants are making movements to remove antibiotic treated meats from their menus. This movement is causing quite the stir in consumers and livestock producers alike. Do the antibiotics used in beef really contribute to antibiotic resistant diseases? Should antibiotics be outlawed in the use of farm animals? The eradication of antibiotic use in America s beef industry is not feasible due to its usage in the treatment and control of deadly or discomforting diseases. Presently, speculations have risen about the amount of antibiotics used in the livestock industry and the desire to consume antibiotic free meats. What is not understood, however, is the USDA has been monitoring the amount of antimicrobial residue in meats for several years. If unsafe levels are detected the meat is not allowed to be sold for human consumption. Yet, fast food chains such as Subway and Chipotle are claiming to go completely antibiotic free within the next decade. The practicality of this becoming a reality is slim due to the need to control, treat, and prevent diseases. To truly understand the importance of the antibiotic usage in cattle it must first be understood what antibiotics are and the reasons they are used.
