Essay on Project Critique
Analysis and Critique
The Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) project, undertaken by Electronic Data Communications
(EDC) is the biggest government undertaking of its kind. It aims to provide a single seamless network
which would provide a centralized communication to the Navy and Marine. It also aims to integrate
the legacy systems with the new secured environment. The NMCI project aimed to connect about
400,000 desktops into a common network, which would provide a unified communication to all Navy
and Marine bases (Calbreath, 2004).
Due to the magnitude of the project, it has been subject to much speculation. Despite of initial claims
by the EDS, there have been serious issues. EDS aimed to have 160,000 seats by 2002 ... Show more

The Navy also developed a performance plan in order to measure and report the success of the NMCI
project. GAO s analysis further showed that the Navy had met only 15% of the performance targets. A
careful study of these results shows that if the Navy doesn t implement its performance plan, then
effective result and management cannot be achieved. The GAO analysis also reveals that the service
level agreements of the NMCI is of a mixed nature, with some agreements met, others not consistently
met, while still others not met at all.
GAO s analysis also gives suggestions for the Department of Defense, in order to adopt effective
practice. By adhering to the suggestions given by GAO, the Department of Defense is more like to get
a detailed understanding of significant issues, which will prove beneficial while making outsourcing
decisions, along with suggestions to be kept in mind while making such decisions (Information
Technology: DOD Needs to Leverage Lessons Learned from Its Outsourcing Projects, 2003).

Fact Check
Google added a new tool on Friday designed to fight the spread of fake news on the web. Fake news
includes stories that contain intentional lies or unchecked rumors. The new Fact Check program
automatically labels questionable stories in users search results. It provides links to fact checking sites
like Snopes and Politifact with these stories. This way, the reader can determine the accuracy of the
stories claims.
Major websites such as Google, Facebook and Twitter have been facing pressure to help stop the
spread of fake news across the Internet. This issue was highlighted during the U.S. presidential
campaign when several fake news stories were spread about candidate Hillary Clinton.
Over the past few years, sites such as Google ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A network of 115 fact checking organizations will provide the accuracy assessment for questionable
articles. As a result, Google searches based on the same claim could return different opinions on the
story s accuracy or inaccuracy from different fact checkers. But even with differing opinions on the
truth of a story, Google hopes that the range of opinions from different sources will give users an idea
of the degree of consensus on any suspicious claims. The degree of consensus measures how many
people who are knowledgeable on the subject agree on something.
Fact Check Tool Is An Important Step
Of course, some fake news readers will likely continue to reject the truth in favor of a fake news
article. They will believe claims that seem to support prejudices they already have. Fact Check won t
eliminate the problem of fake news completely. But Forte thinks that Google s new tool is an
important step in fighting the growth of misinformation on the web.
Asking companies like Google and Facebook to think about these problems and do what they can to
address them is a start, says Forte. But it doesn t go far enough. We need both technological and social
solutions. Both good design and

The Columbine Shooting and Virginia Tech. shooting were called similar in various ways. They were
both declared a national tragedy 13 people killed total in the Columbine and 33 in the Virginia Tech
shooting. Though the two incidents were similarly done by psychopaths, there were differences in the
details of both shootings, the reactions of society, and upcoming psychological development. Eric
Harris and Dylan Klebold were responsible for the 13 deaths during the Columbine Shooting on April
20, 1999. The main difference between Harris and Klebolds plan and Cho s attacks were Harris and
Klebold left documentation of their plans. They made many blogs on how to make home made

today as the worst school shooting ever. In a two and a half hour time frame 33 people died including
Cho and many others injured. Unlike the Columbine Shooting there were no real warning signs that
Cho would do such a devastating thing. He left no documentation of his plans that investigators know
of today. The only so called warning signs were On November 27, 2005 a female student reported to

Sexual Orientation In Australia
What is right and what is wrong? People around the world have different opinions on this issue, and
when someone disagrees with their opinion, or they disagree with the opinion of someone else, it can
lead to discrimination. Throughout history, people have been discriminated for various things like
race, religion, gender, and sexuality. Sexual orientation is one of those the issues on which people
have different opinions, everybody thinks that they are doing the right thing, and if the don t like what
their adversary is doing, they will go take extreme actions to make sure that everybody sees the issue
the same way they do. Just like in the past, in today s world people have different ideas regarding
sexual orientation. In today s society, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

September 18, 2017 A New Trend Marijuana has always been a controversial topic. The use of
marijuana has been a major debate in the government because the government has never had any
control over it. However, the state of California in recent times has been less harsh on marijuana by
passing laws that allow recreational use across the state of California. With this in mind, the city of
Desert of Hot Springs lately has allowed opportunities for people to grow and sell marijuana for
medicinal and recreational purposes as long as they get permits from the city. As a result, businesses

The city of Desert Hot Springs has had money issues in the past and the cultivation was one way to
get the money into its economy. Taxing business should benefit the community itself because it s
something that is in demand. Brian Maclver, with Cannabis Business Times deliberates how the
businesses will get taxed, Cultivation businesses are taxed on both their sales (a monthly 10 percent
fee) and based on the size of their operations an annual tax of $25 per square foot for the first 3,000
square feet, and then $10 per square foot for the remaining. (Maclver). Taxing the business this way
would create more money for the city to disperse the money for education or for city roads anything
that is in need for that city. In addition, tax revenue will help Desert Hot Springs with its economical
struggles that it has had in the past. In an interview conducted by Tom Tucker from CBS, he
interviewed Desert Hot Springs mayor Scott Matas, in which he elaborated how much tax revenue the
cultivating business can bring into the economy. Matas completely backs up the evolving business,
The mayor says he expect cannabis related tax revenues to add about $10 million a year to city coffers
by as early as 2021, and upwards of $25 million annually by 2026. (Tucker). As a result, the tax
revenue that will be coming to city can be something that will help them from their financial

The Scottsboro Trials, Brown v. Mississippi, and trial of Tom Robinson in Harper Lee s To Kill a
Mockingbird
The purpose of this essay is to compare three very similar cases, the Scottsboro Trials, Brown v.
Mississippi, and the fictional trial of Tom Robinson in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird; and to
prove why the defendant of the third trial never had a chance. Each took place in the rural South in the
1920 s and 30 s and involved the unfair conviction of young black males by all white juries pressured
by the threat of mob violence. Each lacked the evidence sufficient for conviction, most especially for
the death penalty. Last, heroes emerged from each trial and made small but solid steps towards equal
justice for all. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Price had conveniently washed her step ins and though six men allegedly raped her, not a one got any
semen on her coat. The Supreme Court granted the Scottsboro boys new trials on the grounds that they
did not receive adequate legal counsel. In this second round of trials, presided by Judge James E.
Horton, Ruby Bates denied that she or Victoria Price had ever been raped (To Kill a Mockingbird:
Then and Now).
The hero in this case was Judge Horton. Despite public opinion in the region, Horton overturned the
conviction of the jury, an unprecedented act. He wrote a thoughtful essay of the improbability of the
crime and examined what evidence should have resulted from it. Very little of this expected evidence
actually appeared and thus Judge Horton declared:
It is therefore ordered and adjudged by the Court that the motion be granted; that the verdict of the
jury in this case and the judgment of the Court sentencing this defendant to death be, and the same
hereby is, set aside and that a new trial be and the same is hereby ordered. (To Kill a Mockingbird:
Then and Now).
Judge Horton had run unopposed in the previous two elections, but shortly thereafter, Judge Horton
lost the next election.

Research Paper On Arctic
The Arctic is located in the northernmost part of the planet. It is a polar area that consists of the Arctic
Ocean, adjacent seas and parts of different European and North American countries: Canada, the
United States, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, etc.
The Artic holds a unique ecosystem and very cold temperatures; however, some indigenous peoples
have adapted quite well to these extreme conditions.
Its flora consists mostly of mosses and lichens that grow so close to the ground that form tundra. The
fauna is characterized by different species of herbivores like arctic hares, lemmings, etc. There are
also predators like the snowy owl, the arctic fox and the grizzly bear, among many other animals,
especially marine species.
However, one the most particular aspects of the Arctic is its weather and temperatures. Its cold winters
are very characteristic along with its cool summers. The area has low precipitations and they are
mostly in the form of snow. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

generally be February. There are places that can actually reach temperatures below 40°C, as in the
case of the Canadian Arctic, specifically in the northwest and in the Ellesmere Island.
Daily temperature variations are less common in the High Arctic during winter because of the lack of
daylight. Clear days, which are more common during winter, are usually colder than cloudy ones.
Nevertheless, it is important to mention the effects global warming has had on the Artic. Among these
effects, we can mention the rising temperatures that result in the loss of sea ice and the melting of the
ice sheet. Also, the negative impact it has on tundra vegetation s composition that as a consequence
causes the loss of the Arctic s fauna s

Testing Involved Altering The Mood Of Participants With A...
His method of testing involved altering the mood of participants with a test of verbal abilities, and a
subsequent attribution task to measure how affect influenced their perceptions. To alter participants
moods, a sentence completion test was used. The average completion score was at nineteen sentences,
while the minimum completed by all was fourteen sentences. The happy group was told that
answering seven to thirteen correctly was average and thirteen or higher constituted an above average
score. The sad group was told that average was twenty seven to thirty correct answers, meaning that
they were below average. The control group was thanked and told that their answers would help refine
the test and were dismissed.
In a post exercise questionnaire for the sad and happy groups, the experimenters snuck in questions
from other standard measures that assess a sad happy scale and a bad good scale to measure the effects
of the manipulative feedback.
The next step was the social perception test which asked participants to read an essay from a student
who was participating in a debate. Repeating the conditions of the 1967 experiment, they told the
participants either that the student wrote it of their own free will, or they were forced to take that
position for the purposes of the debate. The topic was one of saliency at the time for Australians,
regarding French nuclear testing in the South Pacific. The essays were not ambivalent, clearly stating

Magnified Past In The Glass Menagerie
Magnified Past One s past experiences heavily affects their current emotions and behavior towards
others and one s self. In The Glass Menagerie written by Tennessee Williams the main characters are
forever changed by several factors from their past life. They are unable to overcome them and

life. She fails to recognize that the world around her has changed from what it once was. Her past
memories are magnified in her mind. Amanda focuses on the good moments of her past life to

Tom struggles so much with his job at the warehouse as shown by what he says about his job, Man is
by instinct a lover, a hunter, a fighter, and none of those instincts are given much play at the

two evils, Mother. I couldn t go back up. I threw up on the floor (Williams 1184). Amanda overlooks
these instances in her kids life, all she sees is them overlooking her. She is selfish and so caught up in
her past life, where everything came easily that she fails to recognize that things are not coming easily
to her own kids. Tom has to work extremely hard to provide for the family, and Laura is unable to
speak to most people. But; when Amanda was younger she did not have to provide for her family, and
she had no problems branching out and talking to other people. She is unable to understand and
sympathize with what her kids are going through, and she treats them like they are not going through
any struggles.
Amanda s memories of her past are consistently hurting her in her everyday life. She is unable to let
go of the good and bad moments in her past and it affects how she treats people around her. She acts
selfishly and unkindly to her son and daughter. She overcompensates for being left by her husband by
constantly talking about her glory days, and acting as if she is better than everyone else around her.

But college athletes do not get a royalty or any sort of payment for being in an NCAA sponsored video

athletes should be paid because their performance and their title are the source of all the NCAA s
revenue.
At the same time, these athletes are gold mines; they are living something far from an ordinary student
life. People have the perception of college athletes living the dream of playing their sport in school,
and returning home to a comfortable lifestyle. The actual reality has been swept under the rug. For
instance, Jason Perry, a Track and Field athlete from the University of North Carolina, explains,
College athletes are known to encounter unique stress factors that the general student population does
not always face. Because of this, student athletes can be at a higher risk of anxiety and depression
(Perry 1). The unique stress factors that Jason is pertaining to are: money troubles, physical and
mental issues, high levels of stress, and balancing being a student and an athlete. Comparatively, these
kinds of struggles are similar to ones of someone who works a job. However, an athlete, unlike a

This research paper considered the Birds Nest aquifer s potential capacity to receive injected produced
water from oil and gas production and the possibility of fluid migration. The migration of fluids refers
to the produced water from oil and gas that can pose a threat for contamination in the area studied.
This aquifer is located in the Uintah Basin of the Colorado Plateau. The Birds Nest is also located in
the Green River formation. The Green River Formation of Wyoming, Colorado and Utah contains an
important record of the paleogeography, climate and lakes in the Rocky Mountains region during the

Drinking Water (USDW) and are consider deep wells, unlike Class V, that are shallow disposal wells
such as septic tanks that dispose non hazardous fluids underground. These salt water disposal wells are
used to dispose the produced water from oil and gas extraction activities permanently. The produced
water is also called brine. This produced water is extremely saturated with salt, has a high number of
total dissolve solids, contains residuals from crude oil, and may contain other chemicals used during
the production process. There are other injection activities in this area that inject produce water in the

Persuasive Speech On Video Games
Introduction 1.8 Billion, 1.8 Billion gamers in the world! That is more than the population of India or

billions dollars so far. So therefore i am going to persuade you that video games are incredibly
beneficial. Some of the most valuable and necessary skills, video games give us include: Social
advantages, Mental Advantages and Skills that will secure jobs. I am doing this because i am sick and
tired of the common stereotype that gamers and lazy, stupid, unemployed and a particular age. I am
here to give the drastic advantages and put a rest to this urban myth. Main Body 1 (Social Advantages)

Main Body 2 (Mental Advantages) Video games are a waste of time they don t actually improve
anything, they are just entertainment. However there is drastic evidence to show that couldn t be
further from the truth. They actually have a huge mental benefit that can enhance memory, better hand
to eye coordination and enhanced reflexes along with other things aswell. Showing that they are
indeed not just a time killer and waster but are hugely benefiting the minds of the people that play
them. The first point I would like to bring up is enhanced memory, a study suggests that young
children can benefit from the memory aspects of video games. Several children had multiple sessions
of several video games with increases challenge and it had been noted that they did show signs of
progress in the difficulty but more importantly an increase in a strong memory showing that the two
indeed have a connection. Secondly hand to eye coordination, another study was conducted and yet
again the gamer who repeatedly played games was faster, sharper and overall better than the non
gamer. The other main point is reflexes which sort of ties in with the other points but deserves another
mention, research indicates that fast paced gameplay along the lines of Call of Duty and other various
games, does in fact increase reflexes. Skills You may think to yourself when is this information
relevant to anything, however it could or will

while less aggressive treatments may only involve a day or less.
Prior to the treatment starting, the clinician will apply a topical anesthetic to the face. This helps
reduce the amount of sensation the patient feels.
The treatment starts by using motion tracking technology to measure how deep the treatment needs to

Is College Worth It Essay
When college pops up in the mind of a high school graduate they sometimes ask themselves, is it
really worth it . Well the answer is yes! College is very much worth it. Many times people have
debated on wether to go to college or just stay as a high school graduate.
But i m here to prove that college is worth it because you get paid more, earn responsibility, and you
get health insurance and retirement plans.
First, college is more valuable because you get paid more. According to Pro Con Arguments it states,
on average, a college graduate with a bachelor degree earned $30,000 more per year than a high
school graduate, over $500,000 more over an year. This shows that high school graduates don t make
a lot of money, that s why it s important to get an education and money. Getting an education gets you
money and it s important to go to college because if you don t go to college you are more likely to
never gain responsibility for anything you do in life. Most people agree with going to college to make
money but others just think that college is just a waste and you only go there to go to school but
actually going to college gets you in the idea of making your own decisions and also taking
responsibility for many things.Which takes me to my next reason why ... Show more content on

kids think and make decisions. Kids who go to college also end up learning about maturity and
thinking about their future. People also believe that without going to college and gaining
responsibility, kids become sloppy and irresponsible and would never think about the future and

Martin Luther s 95 Theses Analysis
Martin Luther wrote his 95 theses at a time when Europe was changing, over the years it had garnered
a greater sense of nationalism in part brought on by the failings of the church. It is these failings that
Luther wrote about and ultimately helped lead to the success of the Reformation (Kagen 322). Some
of the key issues that Luther raised were the indulgences and general corruption of the church (Adolph
Spaeth). The indulgences were created as a way for the Catholic church to generate revenue and they
functioned as a get out of jail (purgatory) free card. Catholics believe that the soul goes to purgatory to
be cleansed of their sins before moving on to heaven (Hollingsworth 11). Indulgences could be
purchased from the church to either absolve the living or the dead from their sins without an act of
repentance. The usual acts of repentance included prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and retreats and were
meant to absolve the person of their sins (Hampson 89). Luther believed that an important part of
being a Christian was to do charitable service over a lifetime, the ability for a person to buy their way
into heaven greatly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The indulgences were created in 1343 as a way for the church to raise money. They cited that the
church had a pool of good deed points that could essentially be doled out for a fee. In 1517 Pop Leo X
created the jubilee Indulgence to finance the rebuilding of St. Peters Basilica in Rome. This
Indulgence absolved the sinner of all outstanding sins that had been perpetrated allowing them to skip
purgatory (Kagen 324). Luther felt that the church was undermining the very foundation of
Christianity as a way to make money (Hampson 89). Luther says, Why does not the pope, whose
wealth is to day greater than the riches of the richest, build just this one church of St. Peter with his
own money, rather than with the money of poor believers? (Adolph

Secrets From The Science Of Persuasion By Cialdini And Martin
The power of persuasion is a useful strategy to use when one needs or desires something. It is used by
everyone, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or views. We use it on a daily basis without knowing
when we do things such as trying to convince a friend to attend our party. Persuasion could be used for
things deemed as good and bad. In Secrets from the Science of Persuasion , Cialdini and Martin
emphasizes the six shortcuts that effectively carry out the task of influencing people to be more
obligated to do what you want them to do. The six shortcuts discussed in the video include reciprocity,
scarcity, authority, consistency, liking, and consensus. I will be expanding on the idea reciprocity,
scarcity, and authority.

The video gives an example of a therapist displaying their diplomas and certifications on the wall.
People would be more willing to listen to them rather than one that doesn t make their credentials
visible at all. According to Manuel Jaeggi, from Use These 6 Principles Behind the Science of
Persuasion it is within human nature that we have an innate tendency to follow what authority figures
tell us to do. If we see a complete stranger, wearing a police uniform, it would automatically register
in our minds that we would have to follow their rules. Businesses often use this principle of
persuasion in advertising. In the source, Jaeggi gives the example of Lionel Messi, the professional
football player, has the face of Adidas. People would view this guy as a reputable figure since he is in
a professional sports field, he probably knows most on which products provide the most support to
preform the best. As a result, people will then trust him and buy products from Adidas if Lionel Messi
recommends them. Adding to that, even if they don t know much of the product or don t play much
sports, people would still buy it if they are a big fan of Messi. I recall a personal experience last
month, where I bought a makeup product, where the singer Demi Lovato was the face of the brand. I
have always liked Demi s makeup on her, so I believe that if she s

Contradiction Between Morals in Sophocles Antigone Essay
Antigone: Contradiction Between Morals
In Ancient Greece, new ideals surfaced as answers to life s complicated questions. These new beliefs
were centered on the expanding field of science. Man was focused on more than the Gods or heavenly
concerns. A government that was ruled by the people was suggested as opposed to a monarchy that
had existed for many years. Freedom of religion was encouraged in city states. These new ideals,
though good in intentions, often conflicted with each other creating complex moral dilemmas. Such
was the case in Antigone, a play written by Sophocles during this era of change. In the play, Antigone
and Creon battle a philosophical war exemplifying the conflict existing in the Greek ideals. ... Show

An important ideal in Ancient Greece was the belief that the government was to have no control in
matters concerning religious beliefs. In Antigone s eyes, Creon betrayed that ideal by not allowing her
to properly bury her brother, Polynices. She believed that the burial was a religious ceremony, and
Creon did not have the power to deny Polynices that right.
Antigone s strong beliefs eventually led her to her death by the hand of Creon. Never, though, did she
stop defending what she thought was right. As Creon ordered her to her death, Antigone exclaimed, I
go, his prisoner, because I honored those things in which honor truly belongs (Sophocles page #). She
is directly humiliating Creon by calling his opinions and decisions weak and unjust. She also
emphasizes his prisoner, which tells us that Creon s decision to capture Antigone was his own, and
was not backed up by the majority of the people. She feels that Creon is abusing his power as king and
dealing with her task to a personal level.
Creon s actions are guided by the ideal that states man is the measure of all things. The chorus
emphasizes this point during the play by stating that There is nothing beyond (man s) power
(Sophocles page #). Creon believes that the good of man comes before the gods. Setting the example
using Polynices body left unburied is a symbol of Creon s belief. No man who is his country s enemy
shall call himself my friend (Sophocles page #).

The Founding And Development Of The Sociology Of Youth
Zubok and Chuprov s research article The Founding and Development of the Sociology of Youth in
This Country (2009), focuses on the sociology of youth and the way it has developed and progressed
over the years. Beginning in the 1960s, the study of youth developed as a special area of research
(Zubok and Chuprov 2009:23), essentially focusing on the domestic life of young families (2009:23)
as expressed by E. Kabo, the ideas of peasant kids (2009:23) as explained by N. Rybnikov, and the
position of adolescent blue collar workers employed in production (2009:23) as presented by I.
Ianzhaul A. Bernshtein Kogan. Social scientist involved in the development of the study of youth
proposed the idea of establishing theoretical conceptions of social development of young people
(2009:26) so society would better understand youth and their actions. This development would
involve communicative rationality, which allowed social scientist to address the underlying issues
faced by youth, who at the time were unable to speak up about occurrences and decisions in society
that affected them. The platform through which communicative rationality presents itself occurred in
the first nationwide study titled A Social Portrait of Young People (Zubok and Chuprov 2009:23),
dedicated to addressing a diverse number of problems involving youth. The structure would: provide a
valid idea of the social makeup of young people and its constituent categories (Zubok and Chuprov

Issues At Junk Van
The first year of 1 800 JUNK Van s existence saw success due to the virtual business model that
Marcus Kingo implemented. However, with the rapid growth of the business and future plans, Kingo
needs to address some serious operational issues going forward. To do this, he must thoroughly
analyze his current processes and determine both the current and future needs of the business. Once
this is complete, Kingo can be better prepared to choose the most appropriate information technology
solution that will provide the greatest value to 1 800 JUNK Van.
Process Issues at Junk Van
There are numerous problems with the Junk Van s current process. Inefficiencies exist in the system
that are preventing the business from maximizing value, such as drivers having to sometimes go back
to the customer s location in order to collect money. Data consolidation in many areas of the process is
also wasting valuable resources that could be better focused elsewhere. This and other manual
procedures are partly responsible for mistakes being made and errors occurring. Having one live
database copy is impractical and ineffective, especially considering the company s virtual business
model. Changes are bound to arise and there needs to be a centralized place where all team members
can go to make updates and look up relevant information in real time. Emailing information back and
forth among several people makes it easy for some of that information to get lost in the mix. Kingo

The Pros And Cons Of Multitasking
Having single pointed focus and no multitasking In today s modern hustle and bustle, people are very
much preoccupied by their work, are always in hurry, engrossed in busy schedules and easily get
agitated so much so that people have ingrained and imbibed a word to describe their efforts to respond
to the many pressing demands on our time: Multitasking. Used for decades to describe the parallel
processing abilities of computers, multitasking is now shorthand for the human attempt to do
simultaneously as many things as possible and as quickly as possible. But more recently, ill effects of
multitasking have begun to emerge. Numerous studies have shown the sometimes fatal danger of
using cell phones and other electronic devices while driving, for example, and several states have now
made that particular form of multitasking illegal ! Dr. Edward Hallowell, a Massachusetts based
psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and has written
a book with the self explanatory title CrazyBusy, has been offering therapies to combat extreme
multitasking for years; in his book he calls multitasking a mythical activity in which people believe
they can perform two or more tasks simultaneously. In one recent study, Russell Poldrack, a
psychology professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, found that multitasking adversely
affects how you learn. Even if you learn while multitasking, that learning is less flexible and more

Residential Schools In Australia
Many countries have events in history that they are not so proud of. To me, making amends is all
about whether they take responsibility and recognized that what happened was wrong and do not
allow history to repeat itself. In regards to the residential school system, I definitely think they
deserved an apology. In my opinion, it was a horrible part of our Canadian history it makes me feel
sad that these things have happened and that we allowed them to. That being said however at least we
appear to have learned from it and hopefully, we as a country will never treat anyone like that again no
matter what the circumstance.
Residential schools were mostly run by religious groups and over 150,000 students attended between
the 1870s and 1970 s. They took the first nations children with plans to assimilate them into
mainstream culture, and they were forced lose their own aboriginal identity. Not only were the
children not allowed to speak the native languages but they could not see family very often if they

Predicting Performance Of Post Graduate Education From...
Predicting performance in post graduate education from admissions information comparisons of health
professions with pharmacy
Richard E Wilcox, PhD* and Kenneth A Lawson, PhD ABSTRACT
Objectives. The goal of the present review was to assess the state of performance prediction in health
care programs generally, versus performance in pharmacy schools, using didactic and non didactic
admissions measures. This is important because clinical success represents a combination of skills that
are not fully predicted by either type of measure alone.
Methods. PubMed searches were conducted focusing on work published from 2000 onwards, since it
is during this period that non didactic admissions measures have come to be incorporated into the
applicant evaluation process. Relevant papers that were available as free full text were used. When
these papers were not available by direct import into EndNote, we went directly to the journal to try to
retrieve the paper.
Results. Published literature clearly showed that prediction of performance in the didactic portions of
health care programs is straightforward when based on pre health care GPA and achievement test
scores. The best predictions are achieved when both measures are combined. While significant
statistical prediction is achieved in virtually every study, the percent of total performance variance
accounted for is also consistent and uniformly small in the order of 25%. Similarly, there is now an
emerging consensus that

How Do Earnings Numbers Relate to Stock Returns? A Review of Classic Accounting Research with
Updated Evidence
D. Craig Nichols and James M. Wahlen
SYNOPSIS: An extensive body of academic research in accounting develops theory and empirical
evidence on the relation between earnings information and stock returns. This literature provides
important insights for understanding the relevance of financial reporting. In this article, we summarize
the theory and evidence on how accounting earnings information relates to firms’ stock returns,
particularly for the benefit of students, practitioners, and others who may not yet have been exposed to
this literature. In addition, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We use the updated empirical analysis to assess the extent to which the findings in three seminal
papers still hold, and provide some additional results that do not appear in the original work. This
paper can serve as a resource for those interested in a deeper appreciation for the capital market
consequences associated with accounting earnings. We organize this review using the three theoretical
links between earnings and share prices developed by Beaver (1998). These “three links” are: 1)
current period earnings provides information to predict future periods’ earnings, which 2) provide
information to develop expectations about dividends in future periods, which 3) provide information
to determine share value, which represents the present value of expected future dividends. We describe
how this theoretical structure provides a practical framework for analyzing and understanding the
valuation implications of earnings information in the capital market. We then provide empirical
evidence on the relation between earnings and stock returns by extending three classic studies using
data from 1988 through 2002. Our first set of empirical results provides evidence on links 1–3 by

Essay On If Life Exist On Other Planets
Since the beginning of time, humans have looked out into space and wondered, are we are alone? This
curiosity about our own place in the universe has inspired many ideas and stories that attempt to
explain how life could exist on other planets. Scientists at NASA have been discovering evidence that
suggests it may be possible for life to exist on another planet within our own solar system. I have
always been interested in the mysteries of the universe, and never pass up an opportunity to learn
more about it. One current theory for the possibility life on other planets focuses on Jupiter s moon

Now the thickest ice on earth ever recorded is a little over 4 km thick and is located in Antarctica. To
give you some perspective, 10 kilometers is about from Citrus College to the 10 freeway, and that s
just the minimum thickness, astronomers don t know for sure yet how deep the ice actually is. But
how could liquid water exist on a planet so far from the sun?
You might be asking yourself, why isn t the moon solid ice, similar to the former planet Pluto? Even
though Europa is much further from the sun than Earth, its inner ocean is believed to have warm
water, at least warm enough to be liquid. It gets much of its heat due to Jupiter s gravity, pulling the
oceans as it makes its orbit and creates friction with the ice and the salt water ocean underneath. This
effect is similar to the tides here on Earth. Europa s liquid ocean is estimated to contain about twice
the amount of liquid water than all of Earth s oceans. Most of Earth s oceans still remain unexplored,
and the life that exists there, undiscovered. Imagine what might exist under an ocean twice that size.
Scientists suspect Europa s ocean may have enough oxygen to be able to support life, however,
according to NASA in an article published by phys.org, a science news website, the kind of life we
may expect to find (if any) would be micro organisms similar to the single celled forms of

This incident occurred in the City of Auburn, County of King, Washington;
On 10 21 2016 at about 1000 hrs I was in the south parking lot of Isaac Evans
Park at 30700 Green River RD SE, when I noticed an older silver Honda sedan,
WA/BBJ3053, reversed in to a parking shall. At the time, the vehicle had two people sitting in it, a
female in the passenger seat and a male in the driver seat. The vehicle was not running at the time. I
know from several previous contacts at the park that stolen vehicles are often dropped off in the
parking lot as it is away from any busy roads and out of sight from any buildings. At the time the
vehicle was the only one in the area.
I drove over and parked my fully marked patrol vehicle next to the Honda and walked over to the
driver s side of the vehicle. As I walked over the male started to exit the vehicle.
I walked over to the male and asked him what he was doing in the area and if he was willing to
provide his name. The male quickly stated that he had a DOC felony warrant for his arrest. I placed
the male in handcuffs, per my training, and advised him of his Miranda Rights. The male stated that he
did not have ID on him, but provided his name as Garrett Brown. I checked Brown, via radio, through

Compare And Contrast Brecht And Stanislavski
Bertolt Brecht and Constantin Stanislavski are regarded as two of the most influential practitioners of
the twentieth century, both with strong opinions and ideas about the function of the theatre and the
actors within it. Both theories are considered useful and are used throughout the world as a means to
achieve a good piece of theatre. The fact that both are so well respected is probably the only obvious
similarity as their work is almost of complete opposites.
Stanislavski was born in 1863 to a wealthy family who loved amateur theatricals. In 1898 he met
Vladimir Nemirovich Danchenko and they founded the Moscow Art Theatre. Stanislavski s work is

Brecht s idea of the actor s role is very much different from Stanislavski s. Brecht saw the actor as tool
to simply represent an archetype. Brecht didn t want the audience taken in by the actor s performance,
he wanted to alienate them from the action so that they could judge the plays meanings rather than feel
empathy with the characters. He called this the Verfremdungseffekt, which translated from German
means the effect of a worldview. Up until Brechts revolutionary work, method acting was very
common. Brecht quoted
Nowadays the plays meaning is usually blurred by the fact that the actor plays to the audiences hearts.
The figures portrayed are foisted on the audience and are falsified in the process. Contrary to present
custom they ought to be presented quite coldly, classically and objectively. For they are not matter for
empathy; they are there to be understood and politely added
I m not writing for the scum who want to have the cockles of their hearts warmed
Brecht was not the sort of writer or director that wanted an exact portrayal from his actors of how he
saw his characters. Nor did he expect the audience to take an exact interpretation from he actors. He
wanted the audience to draw some sort of moral from the story that would arouse their sense of reason

Sexual Selection Is A Powerful Evolutionary Process
Mate selection
Sexual Selection is a powerful evolutionary process, for those unable to attract or gain access to the
opposite sex, risk being eliminated from the population (Apostolou). The theory of sexual selection
was introduced by Charles Darwin in his book The Descent of Man, in which he explains, that
selecting a mate is not a random process, and it is key to evolution, for it depends on which
individuals have advantage over the rest of the same specie (Stanford 99). In sexual selection, males
compete between one another to gain access to a mate, and females choose particular promising mates
that demonstrate trait variability, so that their future offspring will have a higher chance of survival
(Stanford 99). Male individuals have to demonstrate power, who can conquer the most, ability to
survive and provide protection, among other characteristics that will make him the right mate for a
female. And Females, must consider their options, since they want high quality genes for their future
children (Angeloni 77). Therefore, as a female, I am seeking for specific characteristics in a mate,
such as a lean body build, healthy white teeth, and height he must be over 5 6. I seek for those traits in
a mate to further add trait variability in my future offspring, which will help adapt, live longer, and
reproduce in the future.
Females are the choosing sex, for they are usually the ones who invest more in their offspring from the
birth to the nurturing (Stanford 100). Second,

  • 2. Essay on Project Critique Analysis and Critique The Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) project, undertaken by Electronic Data Communications (EDC) is the biggest government undertaking of its kind. It aims to provide a single seamless network which would provide a centralized communication to the Navy and Marine. It also aims to integrate the legacy systems with the new secured environment. The NMCI project aimed to connect about 400,000 desktops into a common network, which would provide a unified communication to all Navy and Marine bases (Calbreath, 2004). Due to the magnitude of the project, it has been subject to much speculation. Despite of initial claims by the EDS, there have been serious issues. EDS aimed to have 160,000 seats by 2002 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Navy also developed a performance plan in order to measure and report the success of the NMCI project. GAO s analysis further showed that the Navy had met only 15% of the performance targets. A careful study of these results shows that if the Navy doesn t implement its performance plan, then effective result and management cannot be achieved. The GAO analysis also reveals that the service level agreements of the NMCI is of a mixed nature, with some agreements met, others not consistently met, while still others not met at all. GAO s analysis also gives suggestions for the Department of Defense, in order to adopt effective practice. By adhering to the suggestions given by GAO, the Department of Defense is more like to get a detailed understanding of significant issues, which will prove beneficial while making outsourcing decisions, along with suggestions to be kept in mind while making such decisions (Information Technology: DOD Needs to Leverage Lessons Learned from Its Outsourcing Projects, 2003). The new Fact Check program automatically labels questionable stories in users search results. It provides links to fact checking sites like Snopes and Politifact with these stories. This way, the reader can determine the accuracy of the stories claims. Major websites such as Google, Facebook and Twitter have been facing pressure to help stop the spread of fake news across the Internet. This issue was highlighted during the U.S. presidential campaign when several fake news stories were spread about candidate Hillary Clinton. Over the past few years, sites such as Google ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A network of 115 fact checking organizations will provide the accuracy assessment for questionable articles. As a result, Google searches based on the same claim could return different opinions on the story s accuracy or inaccuracy from different fact checkers. But even with differing opinions on the truth of a story, Google hopes that the range of opinions from different sources will give users an idea of the degree of consensus on any suspicious claims. The degree of consensus measures how many people who are knowledgeable on the subject agree on something. Fact Check Tool Is An Important Step Of course, some fake news readers will likely continue to reject the truth in favor of a fake news article. They will believe claims that seem to support prejudices they already have. Fact Check won t eliminate the problem of fake news completely. But Forte thinks that Google s new tool is an important step in fighting the growth of misinformation on the web. Asking companies like Google and Facebook to think about these problems and do what they can to address them is a start, says Forte. But it doesn t go far enough. We need both technological and social solutions. Both good design and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mississippi, and the fictional trial of Tom Robinson in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird; and to prove why the defendant of the third trial never had a chance. Each took place in the rural South in the 1920 s and 30 s and involved the unfair conviction of young black males by all white juries pressured by the threat of mob violence. The happy group was told that answering seven to thirteen correctly was average and thirteen or higher constituted an above average score. The sad group was told that average was twenty seven to thirty correct answers, meaning that they were below average. It is these failings that Luther wrote about and ultimately helped lead to the success of the Reformation (Kagen 322). Some of the key issues that Luther raised were the indulgences and general corruption of the church (Adolph Spaeth). The indulgences were created as a way for the Catholic church to generate revenue and they functioned as a get out of jail (purgatory) free card. Catholics believe that the soul goes to purgatory to be cleansed of their sins before moving on to heaven (Hollingsworth 11). Indulgences could be purchased from the church to either absolve the living or the dead from their sins without an act of repentance. The usual acts of repentance included prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and retreats and were meant to absolve the person of their sins (Hampson 89). An important ideal in Ancient Greece was the belief that the government was to have no control in matters concerning religious beliefs. In Antigone s eyes, Creon betrayed that ideal by not allowing her to properly bury her brother, Polynices. She believed that the burial was a religious ceremony, and Creon did not have the power to deny Polynices that right. Antigone s strong beliefs eventually led her to her death by the hand of Creon. Never, though, did she stop defending what she thought was right. As Creon ordered her to her death, Antigone exclaimed, I go, his prisoner, because I honored those things in which honor truly belongs (Sophocles page #). She is directly humiliating Creon by calling his opinions and decisions weak and unjust. She also emphasizes his prisoner, which tells us that Creon s decision to capture Antigone was his own, and was not backed up by the majority of the people. She feels that Creon is abusing his power as king and dealing with her task to a personal level. Creon s actions are guided by the ideal that states man is the measure of all things. • 23. The Founding And Development Of The Sociology Of Youth Zubok and Chuprov s research article The Founding and Development of the Sociology of Youth in This Country (2009), focuses on the sociology of youth and the way it has developed and progressed over the years. Beginning in the 1960s, the study of youth developed as a special area of research (Zubok and Chuprov 2009:23), essentially focusing on the domestic life of young families (2009:23) as expressed by E. Kabo, the ideas of peasant kids (2009:23) as explained by N. Rybnikov, and the position of adolescent blue collar workers employed in production (2009:23) as presented by I. Ianzhaul A. Bernshtein Kogan. Social scientist involved in the development of the study of youth proposed the idea of establishing theoretical conceptions of social development of young people (2009:26) so society would better understand youth and their actions. • 26. Issues At Junk Van The first year of 1 800 JUNK Van s existence saw success due to the virtual business model that Marcus Kingo implemented. However, with the rapid growth of the business and future plans, Kingo needs to address some serious operational issues going forward. To do this, he must thoroughly analyze his current processes and determine both the current and future needs of the business. Once this is complete, Kingo can be better prepared to choose the most appropriate information technology solution that will provide the greatest value to 1 800 JUNK Van. Process Issues at Junk Van There are numerous problems with the Junk Van s current process. Inefficiencies exist in the system that are preventing the business from maximizing value, such as drivers having to sometimes go back to the customer s location in order to collect money. Data consolidation in many areas of the process is also wasting valuable resources that could be better focused elsewhere. This and other manual procedures are partly responsible for mistakes being made and errors occurring. Having one live database copy is impractical and ineffective, especially considering the company s virtual business model. Changes are bound to arise and there needs to be a centralized place where all team members can go to make updates and look up relevant information in real time. Emailing information back and forth among several people makes it easy for some of that information to get lost in the mix. Kingo must also address his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. The Pros And Cons Of Multitasking Having single pointed focus and no multitasking In today s modern hustle and bustle, people are very much preoccupied by their work, are always in hurry, engrossed in busy schedules and easily get agitated so much so that people have ingrained and imbibed a word to describe their efforts to respond to the many pressing demands on our time: Multitasking. Used for decades to describe the parallel processing abilities of computers, multitasking is now shorthand for the human attempt to do simultaneously as many things as possible and as quickly as possible. But more recently, ill effects of multitasking have begun to emerge. Numerous studies have shown the sometimes fatal danger of using cell phones and other electronic devices while driving, for example, and several states have now made that particular form of multitasking illegal ! Dr. Edward Hallowell, a Massachusetts based psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and has written a book with the self explanatory title CrazyBusy, has been offering therapies to combat extreme multitasking for years; in his book he calls multitasking a mythical activity in which people believe they can perform two or more tasks simultaneously. In one recent study, Russell Poldrack, a psychology professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, found that multitasking adversely affects how you learn. Even if you learn while multitasking, that learning is less flexible and more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To me, making amends is all about whether they take responsibility and recognized that what happened was wrong and do not allow history to repeat itself. In regards to the residential school system, I definitely think they deserved an apology. In my opinion, it was a horrible part of our Canadian history it makes me feel sad that these things have happened and that we allowed them to. That being said however at least we appear to have learned from it and hopefully, we as a country will never treat anyone like that again no matter what the circumstance. Residential schools were mostly run by religious groups and over 150,000 students attended between the 1870s and 1970 s. They took the first nations children with plans to assimilate them into mainstream culture, and they were forced lose their own aboriginal identity. • 30. Predicting Performance Of Post Graduate Education From... Predicting performance in post graduate education from admissions information comparisons of health professions with pharmacy Richard E Wilcox, PhD* and Kenneth A Lawson, PhD ABSTRACT Objectives. The goal of the present review was to assess the state of performance prediction in health care programs generally, versus performance in pharmacy schools, using didactic and non didactic admissions measures. This is important because clinical success represents a combination of skills that are not fully predicted by either type of measure alone. Methods. PubMed searches were conducted focusing on work published from 2000 onwards, since it is during this period that non didactic admissions measures have come to be incorporated into the applicant evaluation process. Relevant papers that were available as free full text were used. When these papers were not available by direct import into EndNote, we went directly to the journal to try to retrieve the paper. Results. Published literature clearly showed that prediction of performance in the didactic portions of health care programs is straightforward when based on pre health care GPA and achievement test scores. The best predictions are achieved when both measures are combined. While significant statistical prediction is achieved in virtually every study, the percent of total performance variance accounted for is also consistent and uniformly small in the order of 25%. Similarly, there is now an emerging consensus that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Review of Classic Accounting Research with Updated Evidence D. Craig Nichols and James M. Wahlen SYNOPSIS: An extensive body of academic research in accounting develops theory and empirical evidence on the relation between earnings information and stock returns. This literature provides important insights for understanding the relevance of financial reporting. In this article, we summarize the theory and evidence on how accounting earnings information relates to firms’ stock returns, particularly for the benefit of students, practitioners, and others who may not yet have been exposed to this literature. In addition, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We use the updated empirical analysis to assess the extent to which the findings in three seminal papers still hold, and provide some additional results that do not appear in the original work. This paper can serve as a resource for those interested in a deeper appreciation for the capital market consequences associated with accounting earnings. We organize this review using the three theoretical links between earnings and share prices developed by Beaver (1998). These “three links” are: 1) current period earnings provides information to predict future periods’ earnings, which 2) provide information to develop expectations about dividends in future periods, which 3) provide information to determine share value, which represents the present value of expected future dividends. We describe how this theoretical structure provides a practical framework for analyzing and understanding the valuation implications of earnings information in the capital market. We then provide empirical evidence on the relation between earnings and stock returns by extending three classic studies using data from 1988 through 2002. Our first set of empirical results provides evidence on links 1–3 by showing a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Essay On If Life Exist On Other Planets Since the beginning of time, humans have looked out into space and wondered, are we are alone? This curiosity about our own place in the universe has inspired many ideas and stories that attempt to explain how life could exist on other planets. Scientists at NASA have been discovering evidence that suggests it may be possible for life to exist on another planet within our own solar system. I have always been interested in the mysteries of the universe, and never pass up an opportunity to learn more about it. One current theory for the possibility life on other planets focuses on Jupiter s moon Europa, a moon the size of a small planet. What evidence is there that life could even exist on a moon encased in ice? How could a moon so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now the thickest ice on earth ever recorded is a little over 4 km thick and is located in Antarctica. To give you some perspective, 10 kilometers is about from Citrus College to the 10 freeway, and that s just the minimum thickness, astronomers don t know for sure yet how deep the ice actually is. But how could liquid water exist on a planet so far from the sun? You might be asking yourself, why isn t the moon solid ice, similar to the former planet Pluto? Even though Europa is much further from the sun than Earth, its inner ocean is believed to have warm water, at least warm enough to be liquid. It gets much of its heat due to Jupiter s gravity, pulling the oceans as it makes its orbit and creates friction with the ice and the salt water ocean underneath. This effect is similar to the tides here on Earth. Europa s liquid ocean is estimated to contain about twice the amount of liquid water than all of Earth s oceans. Most of Earth s oceans still remain unexplored, and the life that exists there, undiscovered. Imagine what might exist under an ocean twice that size. Scientists suspect Europa s ocean may have enough oxygen to be able to support life, however, according to NASA in an article published by phys.org, a science news website, the kind of life we may expect to find (if any) would be micro organisms similar to the single celled forms of ... This incident occurred in the City of Auburn, County of King, Washington; On 10 21 2016 at about 1000 hrs I was in the south parking lot of Isaac Evans Park at 30700 Green River RD SE, when I noticed an older silver Honda sedan, WA/BBJ3053, reversed in to a parking shall. At the time, the vehicle had two people sitting in it, a female in the passenger seat and a male in the driver seat. The vehicle was not running at the time. I know from several previous contacts at the park that stolen vehicles are often dropped off in the parking lot as it is away from any busy roads and out of sight from any buildings. At the time the vehicle was the only one in the area. I drove over and parked my fully marked patrol vehicle next to the Honda and walked over to the driver s side of the vehicle. As I walked over the male started to exit the vehicle. I walked over to the male and asked him what he was doing in the area and if he was willing to provide his name. The male quickly stated that he had a DOC felony warrant for his arrest. I placed the male in handcuffs, per my training, and advised him of his Miranda Rights. The male stated that he did not have ID on him, but provided his name as Garrett Brown. I checked Brown, via radio, through WACIC/NCIC/DOL and dispatch confirmed that he had a DOC Escape Community Custody warrant for his arrest, #2714104794. • 37. Compare And Contrast Brecht And Stanislavski Bertolt Brecht and Constantin Stanislavski are regarded as two of the most influential practitioners of the twentieth century, both with strong opinions and ideas about the function of the theatre and the actors within it. Both theories are considered useful and are used throughout the world as a means to achieve a good piece of theatre. The fact that both are so well respected is probably the only obvious similarity as their work is almost of complete opposites. Stanislavski was born in 1863 to a wealthy family who loved amateur theatricals. In 1898 he met Vladimir Nemirovich Danchenko and they founded the Moscow Art Theatre. Stanislavski s work is centred on the notion that acting should be a total lifelike expression of what is being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (3) Brecht s idea of the actor s role is very much different from Stanislavski s. Brecht saw the actor as tool to simply represent an archetype. Brecht didn t want the audience taken in by the actor s performance, he wanted to alienate them from the action so that they could judge the plays meanings rather than feel empathy with the characters. He called this the Verfremdungseffekt, which translated from German means the effect of a worldview. Up until Brechts revolutionary work, method acting was very common. Brecht quoted Nowadays the plays meaning is usually blurred by the fact that the actor plays to the audiences hearts. For they are not matter for empathy; they are there to be understood and politely added I m not writing for the scum who want to have the cockles of their hearts warmed Brecht was not the sort of writer or director that wanted an exact portrayal from his actors of how he saw his characters. • 38. Sexual Selection Is A Powerful Evolutionary Process Mate selection Sexual Selection is a powerful evolutionary process, for those unable to attract or gain access to the opposite sex, risk being eliminated from the population (Apostolou). The theory of sexual selection was introduced by Charles Darwin in his book The Descent of Man, in which he explains, that selecting a mate is not a random process, and it is key to evolution, for it depends on which individuals have advantage over the rest of the same specie (Stanford 99). In sexual selection, males compete between one another to gain access to a mate, and females choose particular promising mates that demonstrate trait variability, so that their future offspring will have a higher chance of survival (Stanford 99). Male individuals have to demonstrate power, who can conquer the most, ability to survive and provide protection, among other characteristics that will make him the right mate for a female. And Females, must consider their options, since they want high quality genes for their future children (Angeloni 77). Therefore, as a female, I am seeking for specific characteristics in a mate, such as a lean body build, healthy white teeth, and height he must be over 5 6. I seek for those traits in a mate to further add trait variability in my future offspring, which will help adapt, live longer, and reproduce in the future. Females are the choosing sex, for they are usually the ones who invest more in their offspring from the birth to the nurturing (Stanford 100). Second, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
