5. EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
IN A NUT SHELL
EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY is
concerned with “Integrating Technology in
teaching and Learning.” Specifically is
focused on introducing, reinforcing,
supplementing and extending the knowledge
and skill of learners in using educational
technology. It can also deeper the
understanding of the learners about computer
as well as hands-on application of computer
skills.
6. “THE COMPUTER AS THE
TEACHER’S TOOL”
Constructivism was introduced by
Jean Piaget (1981) and Bruner (1990).
They gave stress to knowledge
discovery of new
meaning/concepts/principles in the
learning process.
7. While knowledge is constructed
by the individual learner in
constructivism, knowledge can also be
socially constructed. Social
Constructivism is the effort to show
that the construction of knowledge is
governed by social, historical and
cultural contexts.
“THE COMPUTER AS THE
TEACHER’S TOOL”
8. “THE COMPUTER AS THE
TEACHER’S TOOL”
The psychologist Vygotsky stressed that
learning is affected by social influences. He
suggested the interactive process in learning.
In addition, John Dewey sees language as
medium for social coordination and adaptation.
For Dewey, human learning is really human
languaging that occurs when students socially
share, build and agree upon meanings and
knowledge.
9. The Computer’s Capabilities
Informative Tool
The computer can provide vast amounts
of information in various forms, such as text,
graphics, sound, and video. Even multimedia
encyclopedias are today available on the
internet.
10. The Computer’s Capabilities
Communication Tool
The computer has been used in
communication as evident by social
networking sites as to facebook, twitter
and friendster.
11. Constructive Tool
The computer itself can be used for
manipulating information, visualizing
one’s understanding, and building new
knowledge. Ex. Microsoft Program
The Computer’s Capabilities
12. Co-constructive Tool
Students can use constructive tools
to work cooperatively and construct a
shared understanding of new knowledge.
Ex. Using electronic white board
The Computer’s Capabilities
13. Situating Tool
By means of virtual reality (RS)
extension systems, the computer can
create 3-D images on display to give
the user the feeling that are situated in
a virtual environment. Ex. flight
simulation program

14. “COOPERATIVE LEARNING WITH THE
COMPUTER”
Cooperative or collaborative
learning is learning by small groups of
students who work together in a
common learning task. It is often also
called group learning.
15. “COOPERATIVE LEARNING WITH
THE COMPUTER”
But to be truly cooperative learning,
5 elements are needed:
1. common goal
2. interdependence
3. interaction
4. individual accountability
5. social skills
16. • Interaction between students and
computer
• Computer-based and non-computer-
based activities
• Promotive learning

17. Learning through Educational
Technology 22
Educational technology is using a
technology to improve teaching and
learning of the teachers and students. We
all know, that technology is a big help to
many of us because it makes our work
easier, as matter of fact these technology
help us to change our lives. That’s why
we take this subjects to give us some
ideas that can help in future.
18. Learning through Educational
Technology 22
I learned that never to teach only in
words. Use visual aid or audio-visual or
multisensory aid. The more senses that
involved in the learning process, the more
learning take place.
I also learned that technologies can
became a detriment in learning process if
we not use it properly.
19. Learning through Educational
Technology 22
“THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK” , is
the statement comes in my mind because
not all the information in the internet can
help our needs, some of these are not
appropriate and not accurate. So we
need to be aware on using an internet.
