What is Educational Technology?
Educational technology is the study and
ethical practice of facilitating learning and
improving performance by creating, using, and
managing appropriate technological processes and
resources.
It focuses on the processes
that will help to facilitate the
learning through the use of
technology.
He was an
internationally renowned
pioneer in the utilization of
audio-visual materials in
instruction. His most famous concept
was called the "cone of
experience," a graphic depiction
of the relationship between how
information is presented in
instruction and the outcomes
for learners
Edgar Dale
Dale’s Cone of Experience
Dale’s Cone of Experience is a model
that incorporates several theories related to
instructional design and learning processes.
According to Edgar Dale, learners
retain more information by what
they do rather than on what
they heard, read or observed.
The cone of experience was
developed and intended to
describe the various learning
experiences.
The cone shows the progression of
experiences from the most concrete (at the
bottom) and to the most abstract (at the top). The
cone of experience allows the teachers to
understand how to increase the retention rate of
the learners by means of involving them in the
learning process.
ASSURE MODEL
A modified process that used by the
teachers in the regular classroom. This process
provides systematic way to plan the lessons that
integrate the use of technology.
ASSSURE model can use to
design and enhance the
most appropriate environment
for the learners.
A-nalyse the learners
Start with the learner in detail. You should know who your
audience are, to meet the objectives you have set.
S-tate objectives
You should know the intended outcomes or objectives.
Objectives must be clearly stated in terms of what the students
will do. You should have a clear understanding of what is
supposed to happen.
S-elect Media and Materials
You are going to make an instructional
bridge that will connect the learners and
the objectives that you prepared. You
may select available materials, modify
existing materials or design new
materials to accomplish your task.
U- tilize media and materials
on this step, you will decide on how the materials you
prepared will be used by the students to master the learning
objectives you have identified.
R-equire leaner performance
the goal of this step is to make active learning happen. Your
plan should include how the learners will know, comprehend,
analyse, evaluate, create the information
included in your lesson
E-valuate and revise
the finals step is Judging the worth of
the materials that you have used in
teaching the lesson and assessing if the
students achieved the intended outcome.
The Computer as the
Teacher’s Tool
Computer can support the constructivist and social-
constructivist paradigms of learning.
Constructivist was introduced by Piaget and Brunner.
They gave emphasis to knowledge discovery of new
meanings/ information/ concepts/ principles in the learning
process. Students are engaged in gathering organized
information where they can use principles
and ideas. Social-Constructivist on the
other hand shows that the construction
of knowledge is governed by social,
historical and cultural contexts.
Individual learning is affected by social
influences.
The Computer Capabilities
Based on the two learning theories, the teacher can employ the
computer as/an:
1.Information tool
 The computer can provide huge amounts of information in
various forms whether in a text,
graphics, sound and video.
2. Communication tool
 The computer has been used in
communication through the use of
networking sites such as facebook,
twitter and mails. We can now
acquire knowledge and share
information with someone around the
globe through the use of internet.
3. Constructive tool
The computer can be used to visualizing
understanding, manipulating information and
building new knowledge.
4. Co-Constructive tool
Students can use co-constructive tools to work
cooperatively and construct a shared
understanding of new knowledge.
4. Situating tool
 The computer can create 3d images on display to give the
user the feeling that are situated in a virtual environment. A
tool that may interact with the virtual reality through a
simple text based command. Examples of this situating
system are Multi-user domains or dungeons (MUDS),
MUD object-oriented (MOOS) and
Multi user shared hallucinations (MUHS).
The Internet and Education
The Internet, sometimes called simply "the
Net," is a worldwide system of computer networks
- a network of networks in which users at any one
computer can, if they have permission, get
information from any other
computer (and sometimes talk
directly to users at other
computers).
Uses of Computers and Internet in Education
The internet is recognized as an important tool in
education. It is used to facilitate studying and builds a bridge
between teachers and students, as well as students to students.
Teachers at all levels use computers and internet to administer
assignments, keeps track of grades, or offer online instruction.
It also helps students to gain from others'
knowledge and experiences, participate in
chat rooms, share ideas and solutions and
learn about the many diverse cultures.
The Web has unlocked the keys to a
worldwide virtual school, where
individuals can learn new ideas, concepts,
and principles with just a click of a mouse.
Common Uses of the Internet in Teaching
There are at least three major reasons why Internet can be
effectively used by teachers. These categories of use are:
1. Communication
2. Information Retrieval/ Direct Instruction
3. General Sources
Learning through
EDTech 1 and EDTech 2
Educational Technology as a subject is
indeed a great help for future mentors. The
Educational technology make learners equipped,
appreciative and become aware to the use of
technology ranging traditional to modern
educational media. It is also concerned in the
integration of technology in teaching and learning.
EDTech teaches how useful it is to use technology
such as computer, laptop, projector, etc. to make
your students enjoy the lesson and to have a
meaningful and interactive discussion.
EDTech 1 orients me on the familiarization
on how educational technology can be utilized as
media in the teaching and learning process. It is
engaging us more with the use of technology. It
taught me on how am I going to use technology in
delivering my lesson or even making activities.
I also learned how to make a good
presentation in order to catch the attention of my
students. It should always follow certain rules, such
as the spacing, the font style and font size should be
uniform. Second, design of the presentation should
be appropriate to your topic. The last one, slides
should contain at least 7 lines so that your students
will be able to read it.
EDTech 2 is primarily concerned in the
integration of technology in teaching and learning. It
signifies how technology is really evolving and helpful
in education. It taught me deeper understanding about
the computer and its usefulness in teaching and
learning. It reminds me that technology isn’t just for
recreation and playing for it plays a vital role in
acquiring new knowledge, concepts and principles. We
can use the different programs that was installed in our
computers to widen our knowledge. This subject
enhances the teaching and learning process through
technology integration which help our students to
learn in a more fun and exciting way.
Technology is evolving as wise men invent new
machineries that will cater the needs of an
individual person. It almost changed everything
for the betterment of the world and the way
how people do such thing. Technology in
education was a revision of the traditional way
of teaching. It should be implemented together
with the use of traditional way.

The use of technology nowadays is essential
especially to the future teachers who
are going to teach the 21st century
learner. As 21st century teachers, we
should be equipped and skilled in the
use of technology to enhance the
teaching process.

  • 5. What is Educational Technology? Educational technology is the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources. It focuses on the processes that will help to facilitate the learning through the use of technology.

His most famous concept was called the "cone of experience," a graphic depiction of the relationship between how information is presented in instruction and the outcomes for learners Edgar Dale

  • 8. Dale’s Cone of Experience Dale’s Cone of Experience is a model that incorporates several theories related to instructional design and learning processes. According to Edgar Dale, learners retain more information by what they do rather than on what they heard, read or observed. The cone of experience was developed and intended to describe the various learning experiences.
  • 9. The cone shows the progression of experiences from the most concrete (at the bottom) and to the most abstract (at the top). The cone of experience allows the teachers to understand how to increase the retention rate of the learners by means of involving them in the learning process.
  • 10. ASSURE MODEL A modified process that used by the teachers in the regular classroom. This process provides systematic way to plan the lessons that integrate the use of technology. ASSSURE model can use to design and enhance the most appropriate environment for the learners.
  • 11. A-nalyse the learners Start with the learner in detail. You should know who your audience are, to meet the objectives you have set. S-tate objectives You should know the intended outcomes or objectives. Objectives must be clearly stated in terms of what the students will do. You should have a clear understanding of what is supposed to happen. S-elect Media and Materials You are going to make an instructional bridge that will connect the learners and the objectives that you prepared. You may select available materials, modify existing materials or design new materials to accomplish your task.
  • 12. U- tilize media and materials on this step, you will decide on how the materials you prepared will be used by the students to master the learning objectives you have identified. R-equire leaner performance the goal of this step is to make active learning happen. Your plan should include how the learners will know, comprehend, analyse, evaluate, create the information included in your lesson E-valuate and revise the finals step is Judging the worth of the materials that you have used in teaching the lesson and assessing if the students achieved the intended outcome.
  • 13. The Computer as the Teacher’s Tool Computer can support the constructivist and social- constructivist paradigms of learning. Constructivist was introduced by Piaget and Brunner. They gave emphasis to knowledge discovery of new meanings/ information/ concepts/ principles in the learning process. Students are engaged in gathering organized information where they can use principles and ideas. Social-Constructivist on the other hand shows that the construction of knowledge is governed by social, historical and cultural contexts. Individual learning is affected by social influences.

The Computer Capabilities Based on the two learning theories, the teacher can employ the computer as/an: 1.Information tool  The computer can provide huge amounts of information in various forms whether in a text, graphics, sound and video. 2. Communication tool  The computer has been used in communication through the use of networking sites such as facebook, twitter and mails. We can now acquire knowledge and share information with someone around the globe through the use of internet.
  • 15. 3. Constructive tool The computer can be used to visualizing understanding, manipulating information and building new knowledge. 4. Co-Constructive tool Students can use co-constructive tools to work cooperatively and construct a shared understanding of new knowledge.
  • 16. 4. Situating tool  The computer can create 3d images on display to give the user the feeling that are situated in a virtual environment. A tool that may interact with the virtual reality through a simple text based command. Examples of this situating system are Multi-user domains or dungeons (MUDS), MUD object-oriented (MOOS) and Multi user shared hallucinations (MUHS).

The Internet and Education The Internet, sometimes called simply "the Net," is a worldwide system of computer networks - a network of networks in which users at any one computer can, if they have permission, get information from any other computer (and sometimes talk directly to users at other computers).
  • 18. Uses of Computers and Internet in Education The internet is recognized as an important tool in education. It is used to facilitate studying and builds a bridge between teachers and students, as well as students to students. Teachers at all levels use computers and internet to administer assignments, keeps track of grades, or offer online instruction. It also helps students to gain from others' knowledge and experiences, participate in chat rooms, share ideas and solutions and learn about the many diverse cultures. The Web has unlocked the keys to a worldwide virtual school, where individuals can learn new ideas, concepts, and principles with just a click of a mouse.

The Educational technology make learners equipped, appreciative and become aware to the use of technology ranging traditional to modern educational media. It is also concerned in the integration of technology in teaching and learning. EDTech teaches how useful it is to use technology such as computer, laptop, projector, etc. to make your students enjoy the lesson and to have a meaningful and interactive discussion.
  • 22. EDTech 1 orients me on the familiarization on how educational technology can be utilized as media in the teaching and learning process. It is engaging us more with the use of technology. It taught me on how am I going to use technology in delivering my lesson or even making activities. I also learned how to make a good presentation in order to catch the attention of my students. It should always follow certain rules, such as the spacing, the font style and font size should be uniform. Second, design of the presentation should be appropriate to your topic. The last one, slides should contain at least 7 lines so that your students will be able to read it.
  • 23. EDTech 2 is primarily concerned in the integration of technology in teaching and learning. It signifies how technology is really evolving and helpful in education. It taught me deeper understanding about the computer and its usefulness in teaching and learning. It reminds me that technology isn’t just for recreation and playing for it plays a vital role in acquiring new knowledge, concepts and principles. We can use the different programs that was installed in our computers to widen our knowledge. This subject enhances the teaching and learning process through technology integration which help our students to learn in a more fun and exciting way.
