Wheattone Bridge Essay
Introduction In the 19th century, Samuel Hunter Christie invented the diamond method for circuits,
the initial idea to the Wheatstone bridge. However, bridge circuits, circuits with parallel resistors,
bridged by a branch between them, were used to measure small voltages; but, the Wheatstone bridge is
used to measure an unknown resistance using all the others three known resistance in the circuit.
During the lab, the Wheatstone Bridge concept for a bridge circuit was used to determine the unknown
resistor in the circuit, see in figure 1. The objective was to measure the voltages between points on the
branch between the first two resistors in series on top and bottom ones, in which were connected in
parallel. Thereafter, test the voltage calculated at different temperatures, those being room
temperature, ice water and hot water; by using a thermistor in the circuit, that helps calibrate the
Wheatstone bridge as a thermometer.
Methods
Firstly, the protoboard was powered with 1 volts coming from the power supply. The circuit was
assembled by connecting two resistors in series on top and one resistor and the thermistor in series on
the bottom connected to the top branch in parallel. The left end of the circuit was powered by 1 v from
the power supply and the rightmost end was grounded. The thermistor was placed on the bottom
branch of the circuit by two wires that connected to the protoboard and to the thermistor in which
were long enough to allow the thermistor to be

One of the distinguishing features of cystic fibrosis is the thick mucus that lines both the airways and
the intestinal tract of affected individuals. In the respiratory tract, this thick mucus is not removed by
the cilia that usually beat and push mucus up into the throat. This thick mucus builds up in the
airways, and bacteria trapped in the mucus are not removed. Thus bacterial respiratory infections are
extremely common.

4. Explain the reasoning behind the appearance of his sputum.
Sam s sputum was viscid because the excessive Chloride ions inside the cells attract water, so water
does not leave the cells. This water is what makes the mucus thin and slippery. Without the water the
mucus is thick and sticky.
Sam s sputum was probably green due to all of the bacteria that has built up in his respiratory tract
because the mucus escalator cannot move the mucus up and out..
Textbook pg 817 5. Typically, a pulmonary function test will not be given until about age 7. However,
if Sam was given a pulmonary function test it will demonstrate a decreased FEV1 (forced expiratory
volume in 1 second) and FVC (forced vital capacity). Based on these hypothetical pulmonary function
test results, answer the following questions:
1. What can you infer about the surface area and/or diffusion distance for gas exchange in Sam s
lungs?
I would guess that the surface area has been decreased and the diffusion distance for gas

The Kosta Bros Case Analysis
Question 1 The Kosta Bros Seafood has experienced a series of changes to become one of the most
influential seafood companies in Australia and Southeast Asia. It started with George s effort as a sole
trader when he emigrated from Greece to seek for huge opportunity. In 1950s, his two brothers came
to assist him. They decided to borrow loans from bank while their personal assets were used as
securities. Thus, the partnership was formed as a result of expansion. They agreed to be individually
liable for business s entire debt. In 1980s, Perth was experiencing the mineral boom and the economy
grew tremendously. The Kosta Bros could be able to expand more rapidly as the city was invested
heavily. Thus, it became a company, which was defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ten years later, the business becomes a countrywide company and there are currently 70 shareholders.
Thus, an unlisted public company was achieved at this stage . The Board of Directors would like to
change the entity structure from the ambition of penetrating into new markets and raising more funds.
They decided to write down possible issues to be listed on the Australian Securities Exchange.
Question 2 In 1997, the Kosta Bros could be identified as a large proprietary company. Under CA
2001 s45A (1)*, a proprietary company could be defined when there are less than 51 non employee
shareholders. By 1990, there were 30 shareholders existing in the company. Also, it did not raise funds
from the public since most of the capital was obtained from the interest bearing debt provided by
major banks. Thus, the company was a proprietary company. When we are evaluating the size of a
company using CA 2001 s45A (2)*, Kosta Bros employed 85 EFT staffs, which were greater than 50*;
the gross assets obtained were $19m, which were greater than $12.5m; the gross operating revenue
was $20m, which was less than $25. When two of three thresholds are achieved, the proprietary
company is regarded as large*. In 2013, the company becomes an unlisted public company because it
has 70 shareholders, which are greater than 51. Due to the ambition of the Board of Directors, the
company would like to seek for new strategies and expand its market. It intends to be listed

San Francisco Confidential Analysis
San Francisco Confidential is a collection of short stories that focus on the major events that have
helped shape the city to the concrete jungle it is now. The author orders the events chronologically,
starting off with the bloody gold rush. He quickly progresses through the story, describing how people
began prostitution as a source of income when gold was not found. Then it evolves to city officials
murdering each other, the hippie era, drugs, alcohol, and sex scandals. Later, as the city becomes more
modernized, the author describes the discrimination against gays, the increasing homeless population,

Hormone Replacement Therapy Essay
Hormone Replacement Therapy in Transgendering the FTM Transsexual
Gender may well be the most defining factor in the spectrum of elements that comprise the human
persona. In fact gender is so basic to our identity, most people mistakenly assume that our sense of
being male or female is defined with absolute certainty by our anatomical sex. Contrary to popular
belief, our sense of gender and anatomical sex are two distinct elements; each developing at different
times in different parts of the body. While my research is limited to hormone replacement therapy
involved in masculinizing a biological female, it should be noted that the psychiatric, psychological,
and medical factors that contribute to cases of gender dysforia are major ... Show more content on

Overview of Hormone Replacement Therapy for the FTM Transexual
Fundamental to sex reassignment treatment of transsexuals is the acquisition of the sex characteristics
of the other sex to the fullest extent possible. With the exception of the internal and external genitalia,
sex characteristics are contingent of the biological effects of the respective sex steroids. Hormonal
reassignment has therefore two aims: 1) to eliminate, in so far as possible, the hormonally induced
secondary sex characteristics of the natal sex and 2) to induce those of the new sex.
Biologic females treated with testosterone experience the following permanent changes: a deepening
of the voice, clitoral enlargement, mild breast atrophy, increased facial and body hair and male pattern
baldness. Reversible changes include increased upper body strength, weight gain, increased social and
sexual interest and arousability, and decreased hip mass.
Hormonal Replacement Therapy (HRT)
Hormones are long range chemical messengers of the body, manufactured and controlled by the
endocrine system. The hypothalamus produces gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). This signals
the anterior pituitary gland to synthesize and release luteinizing hormone (LH). To a lesser degree,
GnRH also triggers the synthesis and release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). Subsequently, LH
and FSH signal the gonads (ovaries in females, testes in males) to synthesize and release hormones
that cause

Trobriand Island Summary
When you are asked what your daily essentials are, food must be one of your answers. We all know
that food means a lot to people but have you ever thought about food from another perspective?
Anderson s readings investigate food from many other perspectives. According to Anderson, food
represents our views, class, power, lifestyles and identities. These ideas are true and can be found
among the Trobriand Islanders. In their society, life revolves around lineage and food because lineage
controls all the food. In order to make the lineage system successful, people from Trobriand Island
treat yams as their wealth, social status and political power. Connecting back to Anderson s ideologies,
the idea of food represents social class is reflected by the different treatment received by the Trobriand
Islanders, Islanders urge to work represents the connection between food and political power, and the
fact that lineage is more important than oneself indicates the idea of food is identity. ... Show more

As Anderson suggests, Food marks social class . (2005 124) Being in a matrilineage, female is the
source and origin of identity, family, lineage, resources, wealth, power and prestige. Men grow yams
for women in order to show women s wealth. From this example, we know that men and women have
very different social status in the Trobriand Island society. Unlike our culture, Trobriand Island s
women have the dominate power in the society and men, on the other hand, support them to be
wealthy. Among the Trobriand Islanders, not everyone has the privilege to own certain types of food.
Yams would be one example. Within the lineage, the chief is the only one who gets the giant yam.
Having the giant yams means that he has power over the entire lineage. This example reinforces
Anderson s idea of food shows off personal power and authority. (2005

Brain Plasticity

Lecture/Discussion Topic: Maranda Francisco and Hemispherectomy
On August 7, 1985; surgeons removed the entire left hemisphere of 4 year old Maranda
Francisco s brain. The young girl had suffered from epilepsy caused by an extremely rare
disease called Rasmussen s encephalitis. While seizures had affected only her right side, she
was rapidly losing the ability to walk, talk, eat, and learn. She was on constant medication and
lived her life in brief intervals between convulsions. As often as 120 times a day, and sometimes
only three minutes apart, seizures made the right side of her body useless.

Two different theoretical conclusions have been
drawn from this finding. One is that no shift from one hemisphere to the other has occurred
because lateralization of function is not present in early infancy. The other is that hemispheric
differences are present very early in life, but the young brain has the ability to reorganize itself
in the face of damage to specific regions. Recent studies of the abilities of persons with left and
right hemispherectomies suggest that the latter plasticity explanation is more likely to be correct.
Hemispherectomy dates back to 1928 when it was devised as a treatment for malignant
brain tumors. It was unsuccessful. Not only did it not cure, but there was great mortality (death)
and morbidity (illness) associated with it, reports Carson. The surgery was used again in the
1940s and 1960s as a treatment for seizure disorders, but each time it fell into disfavor because
of postoperative complications. A number of medical advancements have contributed to its
present success. Nevertheless, certain drawbacks may always remain. For example, some
neurological functions do not transfer from one hemisphere to the other. All the hemis remain
blind in one half of each eye. They also continue to have some degree of paralysis on one
side of their bodies. Fine motor movement is lost in

Research Paper On Cemetery Birding
Our latest park review takes us east into zone 6 where we make our first venture into cemetery birding
within the CBC circle. All Saints Cemetery is located in Northfield, Ohio off of W. Highland Road
and consists of 271 rolling acres, with two small lakes.
While birding cemeteries may be bit creepy to some, they can be an ideal habitat for birds and birders
alike. Most cemeteries are relatively large, providing good acreage for birds, with plenty of mature
trees for shelter and foraging.
We elected to run a short car route around the perimeter of the cemetery to get a grasp of the layout
and a probable foot path that we would follow. Parking along the southern most point in the cemetery
we scanned a small lake, or big pond for signs of life (sorry bad choice of words). No waterfowl were
present and the surrounding open area was muted.

Cemetery Birding Etiquette
Birding in a cemetery, graveyard or memorial garden is not as simple as arriving with a pair of
binoculars and wandering around the grounds. While polite birders are always respectful of both the
birds and the habitat, cemeteries require extra consideration.
Be aware of the property s opening hours and visitor guidelines, and obey all posted rules and
restrictions, such as no food or drink, minimal noise, signing a guest register or parking only in
designated areas. Keep a respectful distance from any funeral or memorial services, and do not disrupt
mourners in any way. Do not point your optics toward a service or mourner, even if a bird may be
visible nearby; instead, shift your position so as not to intrude on anyone s grief. Do not walk directly
on gravesites. Ideally, stay only on marked pathways, but if it is necessary to walk among grave
markers, stay close behind a row of headstones and avoid walking across burial sites. Similarly, do not
enter fenced or gated plot

The Advantages Of Money And Credit Cards
Money remains to be one of the most important needs in life. It helps society survive by buying things
that are needed to meet the basic human needs such as: food, clothes, etc. Sometimes, people earn a
lot of money and learn to save it and others waste money they do not have, making poor financial
decisions. What is the best way out? The best way out is having cash. Cash has a lot of advantages
over credit cards. Choosing a payment method is sometimes difficult particularly for buyers who
cannot control their spending. What is the best way out? paying and obtaining cash has more
advantages over holding a handful of credit cards.
To begin with, cash is generally accepted at any business, so you ll rarely run into the problems of
being forced to use a credit card. Unlike credit cards that are more unreliable unless you re shopping
in a online store. Nonetheless one of the utmost issues of using a credit card is that many stores do not
provide the technology to pay a transaction with a card. In the event that this occurs one will have to
obtain an ATM machine in order to take out cash. Not only is this time consuming but it can also result
in the machine being broken which is a huge inconvenience. For example, a card can end up being
declined in a case of an emergency where money is needed or all of your money and personal
information can also be hacked and stolen in seconds. Now you will need to go through the vigorous
process of reporting your card being stolen to the

The Current Status Of The U.s. Economy
Despite the common assertion that all math is inherently difficult, statistics is rooted in simple
mathematical concepts. Descriptive statistics, as depicted by author Charles Wheelan in Naked
Statistics: Stripping the Dread from the Data, is a way to summarize raw data in order to make
immense data sets more manageable and understandable (2013). As Wheelan points out, everything
from presidential elections to baseball games can be summarized using statistics (2013). One of the
most prevalent uses of statistical analysis is to summarize data in order to reflect the health of the U.S.
economy, specifically through gross domestic product (GDP). Wheelan touches on the subject of how
statistics can be used in conjunction with economics; however, there is much more he does not
mention. The health of the U.S. economy is imperative to every American. It dictates whether it is a
good time to splurge on a pricey vacation, invest in a new company, or save for the future. The only
way to truly understand the current status of the U.S. economy is by being able to interpret statistical
analyses accurately, which may be trickier than it appears. Just like any other topic, it starts with the
basics (mean, median, etc.), but Wheelan soon makes it apparent that things become a bit more
complicated when one looks past the fundamentals of statistics (2013). Interpreting statistical analyses
is more than just being able to read charts and graphs. Descriptive statistics is rooted in simplicity;

College Essay On Becoming A Nurse
Becoming a Nurse is more than a job, it s an experience
To me, becoming a nurse is far more than just showing up to work daily. It s a lifestyle choice, a
continuous learning process that you engage in daily, a pursuit that s guided by passion and integrity.
A wonderful journey where you can make a direct impact in someone s life daily. From educating
patients about medication and treatment plans, to holding their hand at the end of life s journey.
Nursing truly defines what it means to be human.
I started my experience 2010, when I attended Hancock County Technical Center my senior year of
high school obtaining my CNA. I then started working at Narraguagus Health Care Facility the
summer after graduation taking care of long term care patients. I worked there for 3 years, while
attending Beal College to earn my Associates Degree in Medical Assisting. Once, I graduated from the
Medical Assisting program in 2013. I worked in home health taking care of a patient, who was shut in

moai were carved in volcanic calderas, which are volcanic features usually formed by the collapse of
land following a volcanic eruption. Most of the moai are located in and around these calderas, but
many have been moved and placed upon great stone platforms called ahus. The ahus were most
commonly found along the island s coastline, and were stood to face inland, perhaps to guard and
protect the families that built them. Traditionally, most marriages were monogamous. Some of the
more wealthy men would have more than one wife. Most of the marriages were arranged, many being
betrothed in infancy. Nowadays marriages are by choice. The couple s fathers are involved in
approving and arranging the marriage. There are three ceremonies in a wedding: a civil ceremony, a
church ceremony, and a large feast hosted by the groom s father following traditional practice. After
the marriage the couple will usually live with one of their families until a home can be built for them.

When a team is up (winning) by more holes than there are holes left to play the match is closed out

Mesolithic To Neolithic Revolution
The main goal of the paper (Bocquet appel, 2002) is to detect the change in the number of humans
from Mesolithic to Neolithic transition. The paper uses a combination of both theoretical and cultural
historical evidence to infer the transition during Neolithic revolution. Previously, such transition in
demography is mainly inferred from genetic data, using the demic expansion model. Bocquet appel
(2002) argued that the genetic model embedded in the demic model did not show the change
representing the transition and suffered from ambiguous interpretation, and the new method of
paleoanthropological data from cemeteries can promise more informative and reliable signals. The
theoretical assumption behind Bocquet appel (2002) is that the proportion

colonial regions helped shape what the colony is most beneficial for. The northern colonies consist of
Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. The northern region had poor soil

To begin with,a health practisioner may fascilate behaviour change in an individual with a health

In general, health risk behaviours are actions which may threaten an individual s health causing
negative effects(Barkway,2009).Until the mid 20th century, global health threats were primarily a
result of infectious and communicable diseases. However, recently in developed countries, health
threats are now posed by diseases in which lifestyle play a role in the causation and or

(Gillam,Yates,Badrinath,2007).Likewise,for behaviour change, simply telling people what is good for
them is not an effective stratergy.Four pre conditions are necessary for behaviour change to take place

effect and know how to change(Gillam,Yates,Badrinath,2007).An individuals subjective
norms, attitudes, self efficacy, peer support and education too influence behaviour
change(Commonwealth government of Australia,2010).
The health psycology thereby, presents physological theories and models derived from theories
to hypotheise and explain and predict behaviour and show how behaviour under observation is
enacted. These ultimately result in strategies to help people overcome resistance to change
behaviour and prevent relapse(Barkway,2009).

Similarities Between Hills And Dale
Tata:
In an organization, the flow of information in different direction creates the communication network.
Network could be of many different types but broadly it could be of two types internal communication

kinds of communication within the organization. All the internal stakeholders of the company conduct
their communication through this network. External communication network, on the other hand, is the

First of all, the nature of these two organizations is totally different. Therefore, the products and
services offered by these companies are different. Hence, the organogram and organizational structure
of these companies are not the same. For example, TCS conducts supply chain management services
which need a long chain of management. But in case of Hills and Dales, the nature of the service
requires short chain of management eg childcare, residence service etc. Hence, for Hills and Dales,
internal communication network is shorter vertically than that of TCS.
Another difference in internal communication system is that, there is less peer interaction for Hills and
Dales. For example, an employee who is working for Hills and Dales in a childcare center will not be
communicated with other employees of other centers such as residential centers. But in case of TCS,
there is a higher chance of peer interaction as employees of different departments work together in
near proximity. Therefore, in case of TCS, the horizontal communication network is relatively

Homeless College Students
Do you know the reason why so many college students in the United States are currently homeless?
As of the moment there are thousands of college students roaming around the streets, due to not
having the necessary resources they need. Now days, it is common for a college student to be left
homeless, be evicted, thrown out their homes, or found living in a abandoned buildings which isn t
suitable as a living environment. These students don t have the available funds to be able to pay for
somewhere to live in or know when their next meal will be. Every college student in order to be
successful needs a safe environment that they can call home and get there regular nutrients.
It is often said, that for a student to actually be able to excel in their studies. They must have a proper
nutritional diet, a place to rest and work on their studies. Yet, there is currently 14% of all college
students living among the United States without a home. It is most commonly due to rent being so
expensive that students cannot simply afford. Which later leads to some of these students who are
facing financial trouble to become homeless. Which not only leaves the student without a home, but
vulnerable to many other factors. For example, infection diseases, unsafe conditions, to even bad
weather which can all affect the health of a student. In today s society when people think about a
homeless person they think they ask for money for the most common saying homeless being drug

Since Auschwitz Birkenau was only one of the many Nazi concentration camps that was built to
imprison Jews, it is clear that tens of millions of Jews were put in these concentration camps (mostly
European Jews). Jewish prisoners in the Auschwitz facility were crammed [by the hundreds] into tiny
horse stables, which were overrun with vermin. Toilets and washing facilities were inadequate [at
these concentration camps] and prisoners were given very little time to use them. [These imprisoned
Jews] were fed with small rations providing about 1,300 calories a day for prisoners and 1,700
calories a day for laborers. [These] prisoners and laborers in the camps were subject to arbitrary
punishment at the whim of the SS guards at all times and could be tortured or executed without notice
and for any reason (Auschwitz). In addition to this, Jewish prisoners were also brutally treated along
the way to these concentration camps. In most cases prisoners traveled for days with nothing to eat or
drink and without any toilet facilities and many died on the journey (Auschwitz). Although these were
clearly vile and inhumane acts which were taken against the Jews, the reception of these policies was
mixed. Some nations (Poland, for example) willingly gave their Jews to the Schutzstaffeln (SS). Other
countries, like Denmark, resisted handing over Danish citizens to be murdered by the Nazis. France

Flow Assurance For Deep Water Production
Flow assurance is a term created by Petrobras in the early 1990s aiming to ensure successful and
economical flow of hydrocarbon stream from reservoir to point of stream. Wells located in water
deeper than 1200 feet require flow assurance. Deep water temperatures can get down into the thirties
depending on the depth of the well. Because of the low temperatures the fluid within the wells may
have issues flowing. Some issues could be hydrate, scale, corrosion, and asphaltenes. The best way to
combat these issues is to install chemical injections. Chemical injection pumps such as a low dose
hydrate inhibitor (LDHI) could be used to prevent complications caused by hydrate. Corrosion
inhibitors can also be used when wells have experienced corrosion that may have occurred due to
water. Corrosion inhibitors coat the inside of the walls of the pipes. Asphaltenes can be treated by
using an asphaltene inhibitor. Because of the steadily evolving industry, flow assurance for deep water
production is becoming increasingly more important. Flow assurance is made successful by flowing
the strategy, PI3, Proficiency, Integration, Implementation, and Improvement. Without flow assurance,
deep water wells would not be able to produce oil.

A Replication of the Stroop Effect
A Replication of the Stroop Effect

Abstract
The Stroop (1935) effect is the inability to ignore a color word when the task is to report the ink color
of that word (i.e., to say green to the word RED in green ink). The present study investigated whether
object based processing contributes to the Stroop effect. According to this view, observers are unable
to ignore irrelevant features of an attended object (Kahneman Henik, 1981). In three experiments,
participants had to name the color of one of two superimposed rectangles and to ignore words that
appeared in the relevant object, in the irrelevant object, or in the background. The words were
congruent, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An interesting challenge arises when a task such as color naming is identified as both controlled and
automatic, by varying the other task involved. Color naming is identified as a controlled process when
the other task is word reading, but as an automatic process when the other task is shape naming.
Cohen, Dunbar and McClelland (1990) proposed an alternative explanation of the Stroop effect, which
does not distinguish between automatic and controlled processing. Instead, they proposed that
automaticity is a range, and that Stroop interference depends on the relative degree of learning the
particular tasks, not on processing speed.
Attention is thought to be selective focused on one subject at a time. Traditionally, it has been assumed
that automatic processing is involuntary, it does not require attention, and is relatively fast; whereas,
controlled processing is voluntary, does require attention, and is relatively slow. We can conclude from
this that the more we repeat a certain material or tasks the more it becomes automatic and effortless to
us.
Methods
Design
The independent variable was represented by three conditions; three word lists printed in a variety of
color inks. Two of the lists consisted of word colors; one in black ink and the other in incongruent
colors. The third list consisted of square blocks in contrasting colors. The dependent variable was the
time taken to name the black ink words, the square block colors, and the color names in

Similarities and Differences in the Aeneid and the Odyssey.
Both the Odyssey and the Aeneid describe the journeys of the two Greek heroes Odysseus and Aeneas,
as they struggle towards their goal through the crises and deadly situations caused by the wrath of the
gods upon them. In the Odyssey, we see that Poseidon (god of the sea/earth shaker) has a grudge
against Odysseus while Athena, god of wisdom, aids him throughout his journey. Similarly in the
Aeneid, we see that goddess Juno dislikes Aeneas as he is destined to destroy the city of Carthage
loved by Juno during his mission to find a new land Rome, whereas Aeneas mother Venus aids him.
In these epics, many points of similarity and differences arise such as the characters of the heroes, how
their journeys are delayed by women obsessed with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some serious and important situations, Odysseus is more cunning and intellect than Aeneas.
Something common in the two epics about their journey is that both Odysseus and Aeneas are
distracted from what they are destined for; by the lust and arousal of women obsessed by love. In the
Odyssey, Odysseus is first encountered by Circe s love and then by the over obsession of Calypso.
Circe is an immortal goddess and enchantress who is extremely beautiful and sexy. In the Aeneid,
Aeneas after reaching Carthage meets Dido who is a mortal woman and queen of Carthage. She is
foreign, exotic, mysterious, sexually and politically potent. Talking about Odysseus, we see that
Odysseus is approached by Hermes who warns him against Circe. She offers Odysseus to have sex
with her and it happens. Odysseus now distracted, lives with her on her island for a year until his
comrades remind him of Ithaca. The longest delay in Odysseus journey is at the island of Calypso.
Calypso lives alone on an exotic and beautiful island. After Odysseus crash lands here, he is rescued
by her and held captive for seven years. Calypso loves Odysseus unconditionally and offers him
immortality. Calypso could never impress Odysseus like Circe did. But in the Aeneid, we see that
Aeneas loses sight of his mission of founding Rome in Italy. Dido makes Aeneas forget about what he
is destined for as they fall in love. Both Dido and Circe keep men away from their

The United States Westward Expansion
Over the past centuries a few, small colonies became a thriving nation brimmed with promises of
wealth and freedom. These aspects brought immigrants from around the world, all wanting a part of
the American culture. The United States grew drastically and new land became available over time.
This surge in population created the Manifest Destiny, the belief of expansion from sea to sea. The
United States westward expansion was a wicked, but vital component during the 1800s that allowed
the nation to exercise its power and prosper economically at the price of unfair manipulation towards
Native Americans as well as a cruel game of tug of war with the lives of slaves.
In order to promote expansion, the federal government needed a tactic that would allow everyone to
easily migrate. The United States was able to grow even more due to the bills and acts that they
passed. Through the Homestead Act, citizens or immigrants could apply and go through a three step
course that would allow them to claim one hundred sixty acres of land for free or for a small amount
of money (The Homestead Act of 1863). The Preemption Acts of 1830s and 1840s and other earlier
acts were also created in favor that citizens could acquire cheap land. During 1862, the Civil War was
in effect and the issue of slavery was at its peak. The federal government wanted more people to have
land without slaves. They achieved this goal by supporting new innovations and inventions. The
government supplied railroad and

Essay on Violent Video Games Raise Aggression
Throughout history man kind has always searched for ways to entertain himself, each time developing
new activities and games. Video games have become a very popular way to spend time and have fun
from the 1970 s up to now. With new developments appeared different video game genres from
adventure to racing, but the violent video games appear to be the most popular ones (Shin, 2003), for
example: shooters, fighting and video games where you have to eliminate, destroy, or kill your
enemies. Video games have become very influential on children and adults (Stafford, 1999). With
violent video games humans are more prone to act aggressively, to have aggressive thoughts and
become numb towards violence (Harding, 2009). Apart from these they are ... Show more content on

Now a day however VDU s have evolved and we created LCD s with higher quality and standard
giving the opportunity for violent video games to be more graphic and real (Stafford, 1999) like for
example when characters get shot a large spray of blood covers the walls and floor near the character
(Shin, 2003). The processor of the consoles has also been a key factor to the development of more real
looking violent video games. From Intel s 4004 microprocessor up to Intel s core 2 duo E8500
processor we have seen how computers are able to do more tasks in less time. This development has
given a way for violent video games to be more free in the sense that more actions can be made, the
virtual worlds are bigger and there are more objectives to be done or enemies to be eliminated. C. The
impact of the issue Violence in video games has been proved to raise the aggression on video gamers
in the short and long term, whether it s in their language, attitude or actions. Also video games not
only cause this but they also decrease prosocial behavior and empathy (Anderson, 2010). Violent
video games have been one of the main reasons why students decide to shoot everyone in an
educational institution like the well known Columbine Massacre in 1999. [They] liked to play Doom
(a computer game) in the afternoons , No one can say for sure why...theories including...violent video

How Does Pope Francis Laudato Talk
Pope Francis Laudato Si shows that the relationships between God, humans, and the earth are
intertwined, and that better understanding theology as God talk helps people to better understand those
relationships. Drawing from numerous sources including the Catechism, Christian tradition, past
popes, saints, and bishops from New Zealand, Canada, and Brazil, Pope Francis fabricates an
encyclical discussing these relationships and connections, leading to extensive explanation of integral
ecology. Theology is commonly defined as the study of God but a more authentic definition is that it is
God talk (lecture). Theo translates to God and logos translates to logic, language, and reason (lecture).
The sources of theology are scripture, tradition, and experience (lecture). Scripture being the text of
the Bible, tradition meaning a collection of beliefs, practices, habits of a group over time, and
experience being the history of experience of those before them and insights of experts and non
Christians (lecture). Theological language is .Theological language works as ongoing and open ended
because humans cannot fully comprehend God. Humanity is journeying a length for God, and this
quest is ingrained in the three element: (1) the incomprehensible, ineffable, and incomparable nature
of God, (2) the search is continual and universal humans crave understanding a deeper relationship
with God, and (3) the search is made new because of the changing history of human cultures

  • 2. Wheattone Bridge Essay Introduction In the 19th century, Samuel Hunter Christie invented the diamond method for circuits, the initial idea to the Wheatstone bridge. However, bridge circuits, circuits with parallel resistors, bridged by a branch between them, were used to measure small voltages; but, the Wheatstone bridge is used to measure an unknown resistance using all the others three known resistance in the circuit. During the lab, the Wheatstone Bridge concept for a bridge circuit was used to determine the unknown resistor in the circuit, see in figure 1. The objective was to measure the voltages between points on the branch between the first two resistors in series on top and bottom ones, in which were connected in parallel. Thereafter, test the voltage calculated at different temperatures, those being room temperature, ice water and hot water; by using a thermistor in the circuit, that helps calibrate the Wheatstone bridge as a thermometer. Methods Firstly, the protoboard was powered with 1 volts coming from the power supply. The circuit was assembled by connecting two resistors in series on top and one resistor and the thermistor in series on the bottom connected to the top branch in parallel. The left end of the circuit was powered by 1 v from the power supply and the rightmost end was grounded. The thermistor was placed on the bottom branch of the circuit by two wires that connected to the protoboard and to the thermistor in which were long enough to allow the thermistor to be ... One of the distinguishing features of cystic fibrosis is the thick mucus that lines both the airways and the intestinal tract of affected individuals. In the respiratory tract, this thick mucus is not removed by the cilia that usually beat and push mucus up into the throat. This thick mucus builds up in the airways, and bacteria trapped in the mucus are not removed. Thus bacterial respiratory infections are extremely common. Colorado.edu 4. Explain the reasoning behind the appearance of his sputum. Sam s sputum was viscid because the excessive Chloride ions inside the cells attract water, so water does not leave the cells. This water is what makes the mucus thin and slippery. Without the water the mucus is thick and sticky. Sam s sputum was probably green due to all of the bacteria that has built up in his respiratory tract because the mucus escalator cannot move the mucus up and out.. Textbook pg 817 5. Typically, a pulmonary function test will not be given until about age 7. However, if Sam was given a pulmonary function test it will demonstrate a decreased FEV1 (forced expiratory volume in 1 second) and FVC (forced vital capacity). They decided to borrow loans from bank while their personal assets were used as securities. Thus, the partnership was formed as a result of expansion. They decided to write down possible issues to be listed on the Australian Securities Exchange. Question 2 In 1997, the Kosta Bros could be identified as a large proprietary company. Under CA 2001 s45A (1)*, a proprietary company could be defined when there are less than 51 non employee shareholders. By 1990, there were 30 shareholders existing in the company. • 7. Hormone Replacement Therapy Essay Hormone Replacement Therapy in Transgendering the FTM Transsexual Gender may well be the most defining factor in the spectrum of elements that comprise the human persona. In fact gender is so basic to our identity, most people mistakenly assume that our sense of being male or female is defined with absolute certainty by our anatomical sex. Contrary to popular belief, our sense of gender and anatomical sex are two distinct elements; each developing at different times in different parts of the body. While my research is limited to hormone replacement therapy involved in masculinizing a biological female, it should be noted that the psychiatric, psychological, and medical factors that contribute to cases of gender dysforia are major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overview of Hormone Replacement Therapy for the FTM Transexual Fundamental to sex reassignment treatment of transsexuals is the acquisition of the sex characteristics of the other sex to the fullest extent possible. With the exception of the internal and external genitalia, sex characteristics are contingent of the biological effects of the respective sex steroids. Hormonal reassignment has therefore two aims: 1) to eliminate, in so far as possible, the hormonally induced secondary sex characteristics of the natal sex and 2) to induce those of the new sex. Biologic females treated with testosterone experience the following permanent changes: a deepening of the voice, clitoral enlargement, mild breast atrophy, increased facial and body hair and male pattern baldness. Reversible changes include increased upper body strength, weight gain, increased social and sexual interest and arousability, and decreased hip mass. Hormonal Replacement Therapy (HRT) Hormones are long range chemical messengers of the body, manufactured and controlled by the endocrine system. The hypothalamus produces gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). This signals the anterior pituitary gland to synthesize and release luteinizing hormone (LH). To a lesser degree, GnRH also triggers the synthesis and release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). Subsequently, LH and FSH signal the gonads (ovaries in females, testes in males) to synthesize and release hormones that cause ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Trobriand Island Summary When you are asked what your daily essentials are, food must be one of your answers. We all know that food means a lot to people but have you ever thought about food from another perspective? Anderson s readings investigate food from many other perspectives. According to Anderson, food represents our views, class, power, lifestyles and identities. These ideas are true and can be found among the Trobriand Islanders. In their society, life revolves around lineage and food because lineage controls all the food. In order to make the lineage system successful, people from Trobriand Island treat yams as their wealth, social status and political power. Connecting back to Anderson s ideologies, the idea of food represents social class is reflected by the different treatment received by the Trobriand Islanders, Islanders urge to work represents the connection between food and political power, and the fact that lineage is more important than oneself indicates the idea of food is identity. ... (2005 124) Being in a matrilineage, female is the source and origin of identity, family, lineage, resources, wealth, power and prestige. Men grow yams for women in order to show women s wealth. From this example, we know that men and women have very different social status in the Trobriand Island society. Unlike our culture, Trobriand Island s women have the dominate power in the society and men, on the other hand, support them to be wealthy. Among the Trobriand Islanders, not everyone has the privilege to own certain types of food. Yams would be one example. Within the lineage, the chief is the only one who gets the giant yam. Having the giant yams means that he has power over the entire lineage. This example reinforces Anderson s idea of food shows off personal power and authority. (2005 ... Two different theoretical conclusions have been drawn from this finding. One is that no shift from one hemisphere to the other has occurred because lateralization of function is not present in early infancy. The other is that hemispheric differences are present very early in life, but the young brain has the ability to reorganize itself in the face of damage to specific regions. Recent studies of the abilities of persons with left and right hemispherectomies suggest that the latter plasticity explanation is more likely to be correct. Hemispherectomy dates back to 1928 when it was devised as a treatment for malignant brain tumors. It was unsuccessful. Not only did it not cure, but there was great mortality (death) and morbidity (illness) associated with it, reports Carson. All Saints Cemetery is located in Northfield, Ohio off of W. Highland Road and consists of 271 rolling acres, with two small lakes. While birding cemeteries may be bit creepy to some, they can be an ideal habitat for birds and birders alike. Most cemeteries are relatively large, providing good acreage for birds, with plenty of mature trees for shelter and foraging. We elected to run a short car route around the perimeter of the cemetery to get a grasp of the layout and a probable foot path that we would follow. As Wheelan points out, everything from presidential elections to baseball games can be summarized using statistics (2013). The moai were carved in volcanic calderas, which are volcanic features usually formed by the collapse of land following a volcanic eruption. Most of the moai are located in and around these calderas, but many have been moved and placed upon great stone platforms called ahus. • 41. Flow Assurance For Deep Water Production Flow assurance is a term created by Petrobras in the early 1990s aiming to ensure successful and economical flow of hydrocarbon stream from reservoir to point of stream. Wells located in water deeper than 1200 feet require flow assurance. Deep water temperatures can get down into the thirties depending on the depth of the well. Because of the low temperatures the fluid within the wells may have issues flowing. Some issues could be hydrate, scale, corrosion, and asphaltenes. The best way to combat these issues is to install chemical injections. Chemical injection pumps such as a low dose hydrate inhibitor (LDHI) could be used to prevent complications caused by hydrate. Corrosion inhibitors can also be used when wells have experienced corrosion that may have occurred due to water. Corrosion inhibitors coat the inside of the walls of the pipes. Asphaltenes can be treated by using an asphaltene inhibitor. Because of the steadily evolving industry, flow assurance for deep water production is becoming increasingly more important. A Replication of the Stroop Effect A Replication of the Stroop Effect Kimber Ann Cook Broughton High School 3/26/08 Ms. Greene IB Psychology SL 1, 738 Abstract The Stroop (1935) effect is the inability to ignore a color word when the task is to report the ink color of that word (i.e., to say green to the word RED in green ink). The present study investigated whether object based processing contributes to the Stroop effect. According to this view, observers are unable to ignore irrelevant features of an attended object (Kahneman Henik, 1981). In three experiments, participants had to name the color of one of two superimposed rectangles and to ignore words that appeared in the relevant object, in the irrelevant object, or in the background. An interesting challenge arises when a task such as color naming is identified as both controlled and automatic, by varying the other task involved. Color naming is identified as a controlled process when the other task is word reading, but as an automatic process when the other task is shape naming. Cohen, Dunbar and McClelland (1990) proposed an alternative explanation of the Stroop effect, which does not distinguish between automatic and controlled processing. Instead, they proposed that automaticity is a range, and that Stroop interference depends on the relative degree of learning the particular tasks, not on processing speed. Attention is thought to be selective focused on one subject at a time. Traditionally, it has been assumed that automatic processing is involuntary, it does not require attention, and is relatively fast; whereas, controlled processing is voluntary, does require attention, and is relatively slow. We can conclude from this that the more we repeat a certain material or tasks the more it becomes automatic and effortless to us. Methods Design The independent variable was represented by three conditions; three word lists printed in a variety of color inks. These aspects brought immigrants from around the world, all wanting a part of the American culture. The United States grew drastically and new land became available over time. This surge in population created the Manifest Destiny, the belief of expansion from sea to sea. The United States westward expansion was a wicked, but vital component during the 1800s that allowed the nation to exercise its power and prosper economically at the price of unfair manipulation towards Native Americans as well as a cruel game of tug of war with the lives of slaves. In order to promote expansion, the federal government needed a tactic that would allow everyone to easily migrate. The United States was able to grow even more due to the bills and acts that they passed.
