Physical Layer Essay
COMP247 Assignment 1 Van Vu 42872480 1) QueStiOn oNe Physical Layer, IEEE.802.3 The
physical layer, inclusive of the cables that transport data are exposed to the environments and various
other external factors making its reliability difficult to guarantee. Despite this, the physical layer has
several of its own contributions to making a quality network. The Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has developed standards for physical ports and cables that have been
generally accepted globally. This greatly simplifies the physical connection work required with only
one type of cable needed that will fit any machine s ports. This further extends to the scalability of a
network, allowing additional machines to be connected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By having the finer internal cables intertwining and twisting, it reduces the effect of electrical or
magnetic interference on the signals By nature of how electrical work, more than once signal cannot
be transmitted as they interfere with each other and data can be corrupted and be recoverable. A
system of allocating time or sharing of the resource avoids this problem. There are options such as
passing a token where only the token holder may transmit or time reservations. Though these methods
work, they are inefficient as time is lost during token passing, or when resources are urgently needed.
CSMA/CD and CSMA/CA protocols are designed to overcome is issue. CSMA/CA taps into and
listens in on a line to check that not data is currently being transmitted. In the case that the line is
unused the device may transmit its data allowing for the line to be used dynamically. This method has
a blind spot, in the case two or more devices are listening on an idle line simultaneously, they will
send simultaneously and each signal will interfere with the other. Though there are protocols to avoid
this from happening again when each node resends their data, time lost can vary depending on the
quantity of data sent. CSMA/CA resolves this by listening while transmitting, if a collision is detected
the data stream is cut off and stopping data that will be corrupted being sent. This avoids wasted time,
during which a resource is in use but nothing productive is achieved. Data

The Joint Commission Added the National Patient Safety...
The Joint Commission added the National Patient Safety Goal: Identifying Individuals at Risk for
Suicide (NPSG 15.01.01) in 2007. This goal was directed at psychiatric and general hospitals with
patients whose primary complaint is an emotional or behavior disorder, including substance abuse
(according to DSM). This goal is directed at both types of hospitals for important reasons; (1) general
hospitals do not have an environment that is conducive to the protection of individuals who are
suicidal, and (2) psychiatric hospitals are constructed to protect individuals who are suicidal but have
a high concentration of suicidal individuals and are not always staffed appropriately. This goal has an
intent that basic issues related to suicide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

characteriscts of the individual served and environmental features that may increase or decrease the
risk for suicide (Joint Commission, 2010). Many psychiatric hospitals have extended their services in
the last few decades to drug and alcohol rehabilitation and these admissions and their environments
will now require a complete suicide risk assessment, if it has not been done so before. Safety goal 15A

important first step in protecting and planning care for at risk individuals, especially in emergency

Christian Worldview Definition
A worldview is an intrinsic part of a person. It shapes who they are, what they believe, and how they
act. It is something that each person holds on to, and lets it shape themselves, their personality, and
their interactions with other people. Senator John Thune believes that, Having a Christian worldview
shapes my decision making with respect to all aspects of my life. I always respect people in public life
who are principled, and those principles have to connecte to something. And my faith is what serves as
the anchor and directs my actions. Yet, even though Senator Thune believes this way, his philosophy
truly affects everybody in this world. Their worldview, whether that be Christianity, Islam, Buddhist,
etc., affects them in the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This worldview, which states that truth is subject to the individual, finds popularity among the
Millennial Generation, as continuing to grow in this culture of self satisfaction. In theological terms,
Postmodernism believes that Atheism is too objective to their belief. That in Atheism still holds the
same philosophical principles clerically to Theism. The main principle of Postmodernism is to rid the
world of religion, which if assuming Atheism as a main religion, it defeats the problem the
Postmodernism tries to fight. For Postmodernists, truth is subjective. It is only found within a person,
not applying to anything else. To derive ethics, Postmodernists There are three foundations of
Postmodernism that come together to create to create the world view. The three are: atheism, an total
denial of God, Naturalism, only the material world exists, and evolution, how man was created. These
three things combine together to create a world view of postmodernism. Postmodernists believe in
evolution, yet they will specifically never endorses a specific type due to the fact that it would set a
universal law upon all. For Postmodernists, the idea of multiple selves has rendered the concept of the
soul obsolete. This means that in a traditional Naturalistic view, Humans come from nature, but are
mostly part of the culture. Culture has made them who they are, and everything they are is attributed

The Economic Health Of The World Is Not Dependent On Just One
The economic health of the world is not dependent on just one thing . There is no single variable that
can be narrowed down that is responsible for the ups and downs that we as a global economy
experience in any given day, month, or year. Instead, the health of the global economy is heavily
reliant on the amount of effort that is put into keeping and maintaining it. How is this done? By
making sure that we are all on the same page and working toward a similar goal. One of the bigger
problems that the world is facing right now, however, is that each individual country s goals might not
necessarily line up the way others might want them to. What would be a good and successful plan for
the United States might not necessarily be beneficial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in terms of the country composition for the slowed growth rate, the revisions are largely
accounted for by the Middle East, the United States, and Brazil: the Middle East, where prospects are
hurt by lower oil prices; the United States, where growth momentum is now expected to hold steady
rather than gather further steam; and Brazil, where the recession caused by political uncertainty
amongst continued fallout from the Petrobras investigation is proving to be deeper and more extensive
than previously expected. All these events pave the way down one of two roads the first being down a
road of global economic prosperity, the second being down a road of global economic loss. So how
exactly do the events happening in Brazil have such huge impacts on global economic welfare? Brazil
s economy has been suffering for quite some time now. The country, part of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia,
India, and China) grouping, was supposed to bring in a new wave of economic prosperity through
abounding growth rates through the coming years. It was successful for a while when it experienced
impressive growth rates on its commodities and energy exports; however, once China s economy
started to slow down, Brazil s slowly

The Differences Between Vascular And Nonvascular Plants
Land plants can be divided into three different groups. One of these groups are nonvascular plants
which include liverworts, hornworts, and mosses. The other two which are the focus of this paper are
vascular seedless plants and vascular seed plants. The difference between vascular and nonvascular
plants is that vascular plants have vascular tissue which enables them to grow up and be bigger than
nonvascular plants. The difference between seed and seedless vascular plants is the presence of a seed.
A seed is defined by the 10th Edition of Campbell Biology as an adaption of some terrestrial plants
consisting of an embryo packaged along with a store of food within a protective coat. This includes
anything from apple seeds to dandelion seeds. The absence or presence of a seed changes how a plant
reproduces and also leads to different advantages and disadvantages to the plant. Seedless vascular
plants include such plants as ferns, horsetails, club mosses, and whisk ferns. They live in wet
environments because they require water for reproduction. They reproduce through the use of spores.
Using ferns as an example the spores are found on the underside of the leaves. They are found in cases
called sori and each sorus holds many spores which are haploid. Spores are released and they form
gametophytes. Gametophytes make gametes which are also haploid and both the egg and the sperm of
the fern are created in the gametophyte, but in different parts. The egg is made in the

Hunger Games Essay
When children are forced to grow up fast at a young age due to traumatic events, it shapes them into
fighters, when faced with life and death a person would do almost anything to assure survival. This is
greatly demonstrated in the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins when the main character
Katniss Everdeen s world is shifted upside down when her father dies and when she volunteers as
tribute for the Hunger Games. After her father s death the weight of the world was on Katniss s
shoulders, as she had to learn how to provide for, and keep her family alive. Her family consisted of
her mother, who suffered severe depression after the death of her husband, and her younger sister Prim
who meant the world to her. She inherited hunting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, Katniss volunteered to take her sisters place in the hunger games when Prim s name was pulled
at the reaping. She could not stand the thought of her sister being thrown into such an awful situation
and she did the only thing she could to save her life. Fighting for others when they were too weak to
fight for themselves was another characteristic that Katniss demonstrated throughout the novel. This
was displayed in many cases. One way in which this was portrayed was when Katniss immediately
without giving a thought to the matter decided to enroll herself in the hunger games in order to ensure
Prim s safety as well as to save her the terror of the despicable games. With one sweep of my arm, I
push her behind me. I volunteer! I gasped. I volunteer as tribute! (Collins 22). This showed how
Katniss stood up for her sister and fought for her when no one else would, she saved Prim s life and
she risked it all for her. Katniss also took care of and risked much for Peeta when he was injured. As
soon as it was announced that two people could win the hunger games if they were from the same
district Katniss immediately made it her priority to find Peeta. She wanted to do everything in her
power to assure his survival. When Katniss did find Peeta he was badly injured and she spent much
time and effort in making him better. At one point she even risked her own life to obtain medicine that

Racism Is An Unequivocal Problem Throughout Australian...
You can t delete racism. It s like a cigarette. You can t stop smoking if you don t want to, and you can t
stop racism if people don t want to. But I ll do everything I can to help. According to UWS, one in five
people living in Australia have experienced racist abuse. Nearly half of all Australian residents from a
culturally and linguistically diverse background have experienced racism at some time in their life.
According to FYA, approximately seven in ten teenagers have experienced racism throughout their
life. The question still remains: does the preservation of culture, community and the environment
depends on us? Absolutely. The culture of Australia in my opinion is the main aspect of this entire
statement. I believe this is evident throughout the strong messages Randa Abdel Fattah states in her
speech and, the everlasting words from the powerful speech Wei Li and Me.
To begin with, racism is an unequivocal problem throughout Australian society. The essence of racism
is one ethnic community believing they have superiority over another community or culture, and some
of it is just ignorance. With Australia today being a multiethnic society, racism has been a part of our
community for a very long time.
For years and years, the depiction of the whites being superior over the Indigenous has happened all
throughout Australia. Racial abuse in Australia has been recently streamed worldwide by passengers
on public transport, videoing white Australians verbally

Analysis Of The Book The Many Faces Of James Hook

Neverland Variations

The Many Faces of James Hook
Whether reading the book or watching the movie, there are notable differences in the character better
known as Captain Hook. When we first meet James Hook, he is a classic storybook villain: evil, hairy,
and merciless, cruel even to his own crew. He despises Peter and the other children, and dreams of
killing them all. Yet from the very beginning, we are made to understand that Hook is not quite an
ordinary pirate. The captain of the Jolly Roger was able to use fear as a weapon to get everything he
wanted, with the exception of a mother or defeating Peter Pan. Yet in both J.M. Barrie s novel Peter
Pan and TriStar Pictures film Hook we can see a softer, more gentlemen like quality hidden far under
the scary exterior. Hook is an exceptionally strange and convoluted character, both a villain and a
gentleman yet he too experiences and displays regular human feelings that add to the complexity.
Although he is not a fan favorite, without an antagonist such as James Hook, Peter Pan would have
been far less interesting to readers and viewers everywhere.
The first trait that comes to mind when picturing the terrifying captain of the pirates in Neverland is
jealousy. Although a tough man in appearance, James Hook has a childlike pettiness about him.
Whether it is toward his own men, Peter Pan, or Wendy and the lost boys, he does not hide his
jealousy; rather, he uses it to get back at

How Michelle Bachelet Changed Chile
Michelle Bachelet, president of Chile, is an avid feminist and supports equal rights for both genders,
as well as marriage equality. Bachelet, born in Santiago, is Chile s first female president, being elected
in 2006 and reelected in 2014. Bachelet stood her ground against opposition in women s rights.
Michelle talks of gender equality being a good business because it, in an economical sense, will boost
economy and jobs. Michelle received her surgical degree and college. Michelle wants those who are in
need of abortions to receive them. Bachelet has also passed laws that help those in need of abortions,
receive them. Michelle changed the standard of Chile because before she was elected, gender equality
was almost non existent, abortions were illegal, and job conditions were unacceptable. Bachelet has
moved Chile in a good direction.
Michelle Bachelet was born in Santiago to parents, Alberto Bachelet, a General in the Chilean Air
Force, and Angela Jeria, an anthropologist. Throughout her life she lived in Quintero with them until
her father was tortured and excessively interrogated to the extent of him dying in March of 1974, the
year after this Bachelet and her mother were expelled from Chile. Michelle began her secondary
studies at Javiera Carrera High School, where she was a good student and active in her studies.

Gender Voting Rights In The Search For Equal Rights
Since the beginning of time women have been viewed as inferior to men. Slowly, women have
chipped away at this social construct from protesting for voting rights to joining the armed forces.
Although women have made great advances in the search for equal rights, there are still many
drawbacks even in the 21st century. Gender wage gap, double standards, and social media still
threaten to hinder women in their everyday lives.
Women have become more present in occupations traditionally male dominated. However, in 2015, a
woman made 83% of what a man made. At this rate, it would take a woman 44 extra days of work to
earn the same amount as a man. Why is this? Women continue to be more commonly present in lower
paying jobs. This could be a big contributor to the pay gap. Another reason could be gender
discrimination. According to a survey in 2013 by the Pew Research Center, women were two more
times as likely to say they had been discriminated against at work (Brown and Patten).
Another problem for women is lack of respect. Too often are men respected or congratulated for
things that women are shamed for. For one example, women are endlessly shamed for having too
many sexual partners. However, if a man has sexual relations with many women he is applauded. A
woman s appearance is considered very important in today s culture. A woman who did not wake up
and do her hair and makeup is often seen as lazy or a slob. There are not as many physical
expectations of men. In the

The Importance Of The Great Barrier Reef
Some people consider coral reefs the most beautiful places on earth. With the plants and animals
progressing all around the beautiful corals, it is spectacular. Located on the northeast coast of
Australia, there lies a place just like this. This is the Great Barrier Reef. These coral reefs are called,
the rainforest of the ocean, because it supports a huge diversity of life. Coral reefs are more than just
beauty, they are a home to fish and other creatures. They protect humans against floods and storms.
The reef not only contains an abundance of marine life, but it is also the world s largest coral reef
system. It is so gigantic, astronauts could see it all the way from outer space. This paper offers an
extensive amount of information about the Great Barrier Reef, including how it was formed, the
animals that call it home, and how it is dying.
In the Coral Sea of Queensland, Australia, the Great Barrier Reef covers the shore. It begins at the tip
of Cape York Peninsula in the north and continues down to Bundaberg in the south. It is called The
Great Barrier Reef because it creates a border between the coast and the Pacific Ocean. Having an
area of about 344,400 km, it is monumental. The reef, stretching between 15 to 150 kilometers from
the shore, is filled with brilliant, vivid fish and corals. The Great Barrier Reef was Kaiser 2 discovered
in 1770 by a man named James Cook after his ship scraped against the bottom of the reef. It was stuck

Ekphrasis In Dorian Gray
The Picture of Dorian Gray employs another example of ekphrasis. The portrait in the novel is more
than just a painting. It is also a physical manifestation of Dorian Gray s soul. This is its own form of
ekphrasis: the portrait is describing his morality. It is achieving the effects that Dorian s physical form
cannot. This adds yet another layer of complexity; a soul is being described by a painting, which is in
turn being described to the reader. A solid object shows us in simplified terms state of Dorian s moral
consciousness. At first, it only has a touch of cruelty in the mouth (Wilde 65). Each time he views it, it
becomes worse, until it is just a hideous face on the canvas grinning at him (Wilde 154) It is a ledger
upon which all his sins are recorded, piling one on top of the other until its renders the figure

It seems to be his defining characteristic to all that interact with him. Wilde included this aspect for a
specific reason. Aestheticism was an up and coming movement during Oscar Wilde s time. It rejected
the Victorian notion that art was supposed to have a moral purpose. Instead, aestheticism said that art
should be enjoyed purely for its beauty, and should not contain any purpose or meaning given by the
artist (Quintus 559). Wilde was a strong proponent of this movement, and he incorporated many of its
themes into his work. In the preface of The Portrait of Dorian Gray, Wilde starkly outlines his beliefs
about art in a series of epigrams, saying, the artist is the creator of beautiful things. To reveal art and
conceal the artist is art s aim (Wilde 2). Wilde clearly demonstrates his alignment with aestheticism
and the appreciation of beauty. Not only does he personally hold these beliefs, but his characters do as

Essay on Great Britain Rise as the Global Leader of the...
When examining the bloody and often tumultuous history of Great Britain prior to their ascent to
power, one would not have predicted that they would become the global leader of the 18th century.
Prior to the Treaty of Westphalia, which ended the Thirty Years War, the Spanish and the Holy Roman
Empire held much of the power in Europe. Only with the suppression of Catholicism and the
development of national sovereignty did Great Britain have the opportunity to rise through the ranks.
While much of continental Europe was seeking to strengthen their absolute monarchies and
centralized style of governing, in the 17th and 18th centuries Great Britain was making significant
political changes that reflected the ideals of the Age of Enlightenment. ... Show more content on

Under the Bill of Rights, Parliament would have a say over the direction the monarchy was taking the
country, that the royal power to suspend and eliminate laws was abolished, that the monarchs were
prohibited to levy taxes and the monarchy could not maintain a standing army in peacetime without
first going through Parliament (Glorious Revolution) . The addition of the Bill of Rights to England s
constitution pushed them forward into a political system not dominated by the interests and whims of
the monarchy. William and Mary not only changed the religious course of Great Britain and the idea
of divine right but also allowed the ideas of personal liberties and social welfare, encouraged by the
Enlightenment, to gain momentum. In addition, William and Mary moved forward with their
government by implementing new, modern economic policies which placed more focus on the
merchants of the time. While William and Mary were busy ruling the British empire, John Locke was
busy producing new ideas on how government should treat its people and vice versa. Chiefly
influenced by the political mishap that led to the Glorious Revolution, Locke published his
revolutionary work Two Treatises. In this essay, Locke argued that the reason for the whole existence
of governmental authority is to protect the civil liberties and freedoms of the governed. Locke s named
this agreement the social contract and stated

they would be told there was insufficient evidence to complete the assignment. They would be asked
to add the required evidence making the assignment achievable.
Recognising prior learning This would be when a learner has completed a unit in another qualification
within the set time of the national standards. I would check their certification for proof of this and get
the learner to take the test of under pinning knowledge so they would not have to do the same unit
again. I would be able to document this in the learners log book with a RPL form, the form would
need to be signed and dated from the achieved date on the certificate.
C. To plan the assessment of occupational competence to address learner needs and current
achievements.
In my assessment plan I would identify any specific need that the learner may have e.g. Dyslexia (I
would check with the relevant department within the training establishment to see what help could be

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Decriminalization
Decriminalization defined as something that before this was illegal become legal. In the other words,
it is to take out criminal punishments for or evacuate legitimate limitations against. It is the reverse
process from the criminalization. Decriminalization basically is one of the term used to change the
rules or law based on current situations. It is technically a term of remove or reduce the criminal status
or act. People always have confusion on the different between decriminalization and legalisation. The
big different between this two term is legalisation will take out or terminated any law that prohibited
on an act or law while decriminalization will only terminated the criminal charges on the act. In the
decriminalization, although an act has been decriminalized, people still need license or permission on
performing it while legalisation once has been approved, there is no longer law or rules apply on it.

exposed this generation s remarkable bravery, their patriotism, and their accomplishments. Along with
that, similar personal values, goals (both spoken and unspoken), and personality traits were shared
between many of them. This particular group of Americans were modest people who often put the
needs of others before their own. Many of them didn t go to college right away so they could fight for

metaphor is based on magicians illusions. They make the audience think that objects magically appear

The Impact Of Hot Topic On Consumers And American Pop Culture
Getting teenagers to buy your items can be really complicated, especially with new trends changing
from month to month. Even though the average consumer can t possibly think how these stores are
able to keep up and manage the sudden changes in culture the community brings, they do know that
each day in a store brings new products and different arrangements throughout the store to fit the
consumer s needs. Specifically enough, each store creates an image for themselves that exemplifies
the culture and shows us something about the times we live in at that moment. Hot Topic influences
the way the consumer buys their products by integrating family friendly items and American pop
culture within their products in order to appeal and attract customers into buying merchandise that is
relevant and trending. What is Hot Topic? Hot Topic is an American retail store that is largely based in
California that sells culture related clothes, largely attracting young teenagers and adults. The store is
basely located in California, but has stores in other parts of the U.S. and Canada. It is evident that Hot
Topic is a store that always visually changes from time to time, in order to appeal to the young
consumers that walk by there stores when they go watch a movie or go to the mall with friends. The
store studies and analyzes the way that young men and women act, follow, and do when they are
introduced to new pop culture. Why does studying the consumer matter? Well, according to an article

Woman Writers of the Romantic Period
Woman Writers of the Romantic Period Romanticism (also called Romantic Era or Romantic period)
was a complex artistic, literary, and intellectual movement that originated in the second half of the
18th century in Europe, and developed in reaction to the Industrial Revolution. In part, it was a
movement against various social and political norms and ideas of the Age of Enlightenment. It
strongly influenced the visual arts, music, and literature, but it had impact on education and natural
history as well. During this period, writers and poets were actively engaged in the creation of a new
form of artistic expression. The objective of this type of expression was to celebrate intuition, rather
than reason. It is believed that the greatest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A large collection of Anna Barbauld s works was destroyed in the bombing of London in World War
II. Anna Laetitia Barbaud was acclaimed for her genius and talent. Many writers admired her poetry.
She often wrote of home, of children, and of her faith, but she did so in an individual voice. Her
educational and political writing also reflects her independence of thought, and strength of conviction.
Clearly, she deserves more credit than she has received these past one hundred and fifty years. Joanna
Baillie is another notable woman writer of the Romantic era. Walter Scott called Joanna Baillie the
best dramatic writer in Britain since the days of Shakespeare and Massinger was a Scottish dramatist
and poetess. She was famous during her lifetime, and her plays were very well received. She was born
in Bothwell, Lanarkshire on September 11, 1762, in the family of James Baillie and Dorothea Hunter.
Joanna belonged to an old Scottish family, which claimed among its ancestors Sir William Wallace.
Despite Joanna preferred playing in the garden and exploring the nature, she received an excellent
education, and began very early to write poetry. In 1769 the Baillies moved from Bothwell to
Hamilton, South Lanarkshire and a few years later Joanna was sent to Glasgow to attend a boarding
school. In 1790, she published her first work Poems: Wherein it is

Health In Latin America Essay
Developing countries in Latin America have made important strides in the areas of education,
modernization, and most importantly health care. However, these budding nations are still in the
process of making health care affordable and accessible to all citizens. In some countries, health care
has become a basic human right. Further, policy makers and state governments play a pivotal role in
what health care resources they dole out, how such resources should be distributed, and to whom the
resources will accessible. Precisely, then, health care in Latin America is so contentious marginalized
populations remain underserved and excluded from essential health care resources and services.
Specifically, indigenous populations in Colombia and México are indicative of the failure of policy
makers and state governments in increasing outreach efforts to ensure that such populations receive
adequate health care. More importantly, women and girls are at a greater disadvantage for a variety of
reasons. One reason for this is that in some indigenous cultures, health care for women/girls is seen as
taboo, as women/girls in particular should rely on traditional remedies to ... Show more content on

Essay about Characters of The Kite Runner
Published by Riverhead Books in 2003, Khaled Hosseini wrote The Kite

the end, does Amir ever redeem himself?
The Kite Runner is a very strongly written piece of work. It s first strongest
aspect is the immediacy. Every dramatic event is described with eloquent imagery.
You felt as if it was all real and you were witnessing it right before your own eyes. The
Kite Runner s second strongest aspect is it s symbolism. The slingshot, symbolizing
Hassan, saved Amir oh so many times. The power of the deadly slingshot was passed
down to Hassan s son, Sohrab, just as his personality was. The decades of war left Amir s
home devastated with poverty. When Amir was little, he thought of everyone to be just as
privalidged as he was, aside from the Hazara servants. Little did he know that outside of
his protected priviledged neighborhoods, there was still much poverty. Therefore, his
seemingly perfect home country was not as perfect as he thought, just as his seemingly
perfect friendship wasn t. He treated Hassan with little respect. Making him feel bad
about himself and testing his loyalty had become a daily task. After the Russian invasion
and the Taliban taking control of the country, all of Afghanistan was destroyed. Along
with the desctruction of his country, his friendship was also destroyed. His

Ideal Of The American Ideal
The American Ideal
If approval replaced dedication as creativity s fuel, this world
Would be barren, empty, decidedly less lovely. Jen Hatmaker In his will, newspaper publisher Joseph
Pulitzer specified that a $1,000 prize be awarded each year for the American novel; published during
the year which shall best present the whole atmosphere of American life, and the highest standards of
American manners and manhood (6). However, in 1917, the president of Columbia University and
Pulitzer advisory board leader Nichols Murray Butler changed the wording of the criteria to read the
wholesome atmosphere of American life (7); and by so doing, limited the scope of what literature was
deemed acceptable for consideration of the honor. Subsequently, in 1921, the Pulitzer Prize for fiction
was awarded to a novel about New York high society during the 1870s and controversy soon followed.
In a June 22, 1921 article in The New Republic, one of the judges that year, literary scholar Robert
Morse Lovett, wrote that the winner, Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton, had not been the jury s
choice (6). The panel of judges, which included Lovett as well as a literature professor and a novelist,
had instead selected Sinclair Lewis s Main Street, a novel Lovett described using the words of his
fellow juror Stuart Pratt Sherman, as having communicated more life to the reading public than any
other novel I can recall... (6). The judges decision to award the p0rize to Lewis was overturned by the

Motherhood In Chicana Motherhood
Chicana Motherhood:
How Mothers Teach Us the Art of Self love and Influence Our Identity
Introduction
In the beginning, there were mothers. Like goddesses they create life, nurturing their offspring into
adulthood and beyond. Through wisdom, culture, and tradition they educate their young on the
wonders of life, gracing us with the opportunity to follow in their footsteps to become mothers
ourselves. Through the study of Chicana feminism, it becomes apparent how motherhood is a
recurring theme throughout much Chicana feminist art and literature, often discussing how these
women fostered growth in multiple facets of their being through their general life experience. Perhaps,
this is due to the role of a mother weaving the lives of their children, nursing them, guiding them, and
creating a life that implements their own values and beliefs. They have the opportunity to create a
mirror image or even an entirely new and improved version of themselves. Whether the maternal
figure is a hero or villain, traditional or nontraditional, tangible or fictitious, these characters play a
vital role in shaping the Chicana feminism we see today.
However, one of the most interesting concepts is how these mothers contribute to the ways in which
their daughters develop their own identities and individual practices that enable them to mother
themselves. More specifically, how they learn to doctor wounds, process emotions and thought, and
care for themselves in all aspects of life. Therefore,

The Negative Effects Of Internet Addiction Disorder
Have you ever left your phone at home and became anxious? Have you ever ditched your friends to
stay home and play online games? You may be suffering from Internet Addiction Disorder or IAD.
Internet Addiction Disorder drives people to overuse technology and create a variety of behavioral
problems with impulse control (Saliceti 1372). People turn to the Internet as an escape into a world
that does not have real life consequences and they are just able to run free. However, people who use
the Internet or a form of technology will not be able to put it down sometimes for hours. If Internet
users don t step away from their computers or smart devices, negative influences revolving around this
technology will begin to consume one s independence and deteriorate social interaction.
Since the Internet was introduced to the world in the early 1990s, it has been slowly infecting society.
It has taken about twenty years for the internet to impact all aspects of our lives. It seems that most
people today would have difficulty imagining life without using the Internet on a daily basis. Internet
Addiction Disorder was first brought to light back in 1996 by Kimberly Young in a seminal paper
called Internet Addiction: The emergence of a new clinical disorder . She proposed Internet Addiction
in a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition (DSM 4), which is a
classification of mental health disorders (Ginige).
IAD was added under the substance abuse category of the

Cystic Fibrosis Introduction
Introduction
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited chronic disease that must be carried by both parents in order to for
the person to suffer from it. If one of your parents has it, then you will definitely be a carrier of the
disease and it will be carried to your offspring. Children who inherit a faulty CFTR gene from each
parent will have CF.
This disease affects organs such as the liver, lungs, pancreas, and intestines.
This disease disrupts the body s salt balance leaving too little salt and water on the outside of cells
which makes the thin mucus that protects the linings of the airways, digestive system, reproductive
system, and other organs and tissues free of germs become thick and sticky thus clogging the airways
and damaging the lungs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When someone has Cystic fibrosis this gene is broken and doesn t function normally.
Treatment:
Cystic fibrosis can not be cured, it is chronic, but treatments could be helpful to ease the symptoms.
There are techniques to help you get rid of the thick mucus, for example, the airway clearance
technique, there is a common method called postural drainage and percussion. Which where you will
sit or lie in different positions to let the thick mucus flow from your small airways in your lungs to the
large ones, then someone or you could tap your chest to ease the mucus more so you could cough and
get rid of it.
Inhaled drugs like dornase alfa (Pulmozyme), albuterol, salt solution, steroids, or antibiotics thin
mucus, clear the lungs and fight infections. Medicines such as ibuprofen fight inflammation and
reduce swelling in your lungs. (webmd)
Taking enzyme pills will help in digesting fats and proteins and absorb more vitamins from your food.
Also taking vitamins A, D, and E can help in replacing nutrients that your intestines can t absorb.

Similarities Between Lord Of Flies And Lord Of The Flies
Living a life without any adults giving orders or making rules, not having to listen to them tell
everyone what to do or not to do sounds pretty marvelous. Many kids dream of living their own life
without their parents or other adults telling them what to do, however, oftentimes, we see their plan
backfire on themselves and they end up running to the parents, not knowing what to do. In the novel
The Lord of the Flies by William Golding, there is a plane crash, involving a group of boys not much
older than 12 years old. The plane crash takes place during World War II and the plane crashes onto an
island, stranding the boys by themselves, without any information or adults. In the film adaptation of
the novel The Mist by Stephen King, there is a mist that covers the town of Bridgton, trapping a group
of adults in a grocery store. The mist, what many people consider an apocalypse, takes place during
present times, in the state of Maine. [The novel The Lord of the Flies and the movie The Mist both
portray human nature as essentially evil and savage, all the same loyalty plays a key part in
influencing the decisions and actions of the characters of each story leading to some sections of
resemblance and some sections of discrepancies. Both passive and active, religion plays a role in both
stories, however while the same religious concept is in each story, there are many contrast between the
novel and the film adaptation.] The most advanced stage of the human nature is called

Because of the extremely intricate and sophisticated nature of manufacturing semiconductors, a
competitor should expect high initial capital requirements to build facilities needed for production.
Cost to build a new semiconductor fab has gone up from $200 million in 1985 to $3 Billion in 2004.
Incumbent companies have capabilities to design newer generations of semiconductors with greater

Remarkably, they have both a cost advantage and a value advantage over their competitors. In this
section we will describe how Samsung widens the wedge through cost and value drivers. The data
presented in Appendix 1 shows that Samsung s cost advantage accounts for majority of their
competitive advantage.
Value drivers: quality/reliability; large product mix including frontier products; customization; HR
Policies; and employees.
Cost drivers: economies of scale; learning and experience curve; product design; and single
production Site.
Learning and experience Curve: Between 1983 and 1985, Samsung allocated more than $100 million
in into DRAM technology, even paying another firm to teach them how to produce 64k DRAMs. As
the market grew, firms tried to catch up to where Samsung already had a foothold. To further make
advancements efficiently, Samsung has had separate R amp;D groups compete within their company
to come up with the same solution.
Product Design: The chairman chose a stacking design that proved be advantageous over companies
that chose a trenching design. A core design was also used for their customized products.
Economies of scale: Samsung invested $1 billion dollars to create a production process that made a 12
inch wafer. A larger wafer meant more chips could be cut at the same time. See A2

Bonaparte was unquestionably a born leader. Often in the harshest conditions he took this role to
protect his fellow comrades. As a leader, the future emperor of France never took full credit for his
successes and never took full blame for his discredits and defeats. Soldiers usually win the battles and
generals get the credit for them (Napoleon Bonaparte cited in Barnes: back cover) He was loved by his
men through victory and defeat. Even after his initial defeat and banishment by Wellington, he
escaped with the help of loyal supporters, and his defeated army, disillusioned once more with the
hereditary rulers of France, flocked to follow him to Waterloo, where he came very close to defeating
the combined armies of his enemies, despite the demoralisation of the French army by repeated

Explain Why Akhenaten Moved His Capital to Amarna
Historians views as to why Akhenaten moved his capital to Amarna are distinctly contrasted, and the
suggestions are numerous. These include three predominant theories promoted by various historians
with divergent views of Akhenaten. These theories are all conceptually based on the concept of
Akhenaten using Amarna to develop his religious ideals. Firstly, it is believed that having his
revolutionary religious reforms reached their goals; Akhenaten employed the city of Amarna as an
escape from Amun dominated Thebes. This would remove the distractions of other Gods and Deities
still around in Thebes, and leave people free to worship the Aten. Secondly it is suggested that

Akhenaten s ancestry, together with his claimed unlimited personal force of character suggested he
would not allow himself to be set aside by the priesthood. Breasted says that Akhenaten moved his
capital to Amarna endeavouring to displace it by the nationalism which had preceded it for twenty
centuries. This further illustrates the possibility of a feud between the two aspects of Government.
Aldred resolutely rejects this suggestion, saying The idea of a struggle between an enlightened and
progressive king on the one side and a reactionary and scheming priesthood on the other, will simply
not stand up to closer scrutiny . Aldred also suggests that a mere technicality in theology was all that
separated Akhenaten s religion from that of Egyptian traditionalists . According to Aldred, the
priesthood and the administration were as indissolubly linked as they ever had been . However he says
clear distinction of power still remained, as demonstrated by Akhenaten s ability to subsequently

work of literature can give the reader a different interpretation of the story including seeing a
familiarity to another great work. In the article, Damned in a fair life: Cheever s The Swimmer by
Stanley Kozikowski, he compares the story s central metaphor and structure to the notable Dante s
Inferno. The lost poet, trying to escape from the dark woods of sin, struggles to free himself from the
worldly realm of evil to which he must ultimately return, and at a deeper level, pass through (1,2).
One could see the connection between the two significant writings as the main character in Cheever s
work. Neddy is fogged with denial of his true self by intoxicating himself ultimately and too late
realizing in the end how much he had missed. In addition, Neddy is pool hopping his neighbors pools,
becoming aware of what is happening around himself like Dante going through the levels of hell both
going through each path and struggling to continue. In the article, Visions of Order

Left Out Landon Quotes
In the book Left Out by Tim Green, the main character, Landon, changes throughout the story due to
his move to Bronxville and being deaf. Landon has been through a lot his whole life, he had to deal
with being deaf, he had to deal with the big medal plates on the side of his head to help him hear, and
he had to deal with bullies, but when he moves to Bronxville, everything might just work out for the
better. Landon has wanted to play football his whole life, but when he finally got that opportunity, but
football has proven to be harder than he thought. Landon felt it slipping away. He churned his feet,
grabbed for the handles on the bag but missed, caught the coach s fine watch, let go with a gasp,
tripped, and fell flat on his face. Page 72. Later on Landon starts avoiding hitting drills, trying not to
be noticed like the last time. Landon even took the position he swore he would never take, water boy.
Good. He handed the bottle back to Landon. You know, you don t have to help out with the water,

The Amphitheater Named After The Flavian Dynasty
The Flavian amphitheater named after the Flavian dynasty emperors who built it or better known as
The Colosseum was a large arena built in 80 C.E. and used for gladiatorial games, mock sea
battles, theater plays, and public executions until its fall to christianity in 404 C.E. It was called the
Colosseum for the great statue of Nero nearby named Colossus. The Colosseum, also known as the
flavian amphitheater was built of travertine stone from the quarries of Albulae. The massive stone
blocks that made up a good portion of the seating, arena, and the massive stone columns that
supported the magnificent structure were moved to Rome on a road constructed specifically for that
purpose. The seating consisted of 45,000 seats, arranged in an oval surrounding the arena. It also had
5,000 standing places for the Roman public. It had 80 arched entrances all around the arena, with 4 of
them being non accessible to the public at the minor and major axises. The entrances at the major axis
provided direct access to the arena. The minor axis entrances provided access to the special seating
boxes for the emperor, empress and other very important people. It measured 527 meters in
circumference and its diameters were 189 and 156 meters, with the height of the structure being 48
meters high. (romancolosseum.org) The seating nearest to the arena was reserved for very important
Romans like the emperor the vestal virgins and priests. The emperor sat in the north end of the arena

Reaction to Castro Announces the Revolution Essay
I do not feel that I know enough about Fidel Castro to be an expert on his life or how he ruled Cuba,
but the little that I do currently know, I would not consider him a kind and caring man. With that in
mind, some of the comments made by Fidel Castro in Castro Announces the Revolution, were
shocking to me, since he tries to make the point that he cares for the people of Cuba and the revolution
was set into motion for the benefit of the people, not an egotistical leader. At the start of this story,
Fidel Castro recalls images from his youth of revolutionaries carrying weapons and demanding that
things were done their way. He speaks of the fear of being killed. Castro goes on to talk about how
these revolutionaries always seem to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says that if that was the case, then the revolution would not have been worth it. We know now that
is exactly what became of Castro a powerful man that became the king figure that he so vehemently
despised. Castro praises the people of Cuba. No general can do more than the people. No army can do
more than the people. (342) He comments that the people won the war. Without an army, tanks, planes
or heavy guns, the people were ...able to win the battle for liberty. (342) He states that the people were
important. The revolution does not serve my interests as a person, nor those of any other commander
or captain. The interests the revolution serves are those of the people. (342) The remarks again refer to
the revolution being about the people as a whole and not of an egotistical leader. Who was Castro
trying to convince of this? Was he trying to convince the people or himself? One of most shocking
statements that Fidel makes is, And I want to tell the people and the mothers of Cuba that I will
resolve all problems without shedding a drop of blood. (342) Up until this point in time, Castro was
surrounded by blood shed. There was plenty of blood shed during the revolution and after Castro was
in control of Cuba, his brother, Raul Castro, and Che Guevara oversaw the rounding up and
executions of roughly 160 Batista officers (Sweig 39). It is hard for me to comprehend how Castro
could feel that these

Comparison Of The Book And Movie
Imagine you were stuck in a world where everyone is out to get you. Everyone you know is infected
with a rage that makes them target you, and only you. They will go through whatever it takes to rip
you to shreds, even if it kills them. The novel starts off in quite a sickening way, jumping straight into
the plot and describing a boy getting brutally murdered by his mother and sister. They didn t care that
it was his birthday, they only wanted his blood. Through the next few chapters we are greeted by the
three main characters, Daisy, Cal, and Brick. These people have one thing in common, and it s that
everyone is trying to kill them. They band together with other teens to try and figure out why the
world is out to kill them.
The first thing I noticed about this book is its size. WIth over 650 pages and enough weight to knock

Well, I was partly correct. I found the story to be absolutely thrilling in the beginning, with me just
being thrown straight into the action. The vivid descriptions of the zombies were downright chilling. I
am a huge fan of zombie movies, and was pleasantly surprised that these depictions are just as creepy
as in the movies. What interests me is how similar these people are compared to one of my favorite
zombie movie, 28 Days Later. In both the novel and in the movie, the zombie like creatures are
infected with something that gives them an insurmountable rage, making them want to destroy every
person in their path. These zombies are fast and have no thresholds for pain, giving them the ability to
run themselves into the ground in order to capture their prey. The main difference though, is that in
The Fury, the zombies are actually

Game Time
Game Time Marlene Wise COM/170 August 11, 2014 Carrie Bailey Game Time There are twenty
seconds left in the game; it is the third down on the twenty five yard line, the quarterback leads the
huddle, what is the play? Will it win them the game? The players take the line; the quarterback calls
out, 24, 48, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, hut, the center hikes the ball, the quarterback takes two steps back;
he looks and looks hoping to find an open receiver near the end zone. What happens? This play can be
used in both college and professional (National Football League NFL) football. Even though college
and professional football is the same, the professional football player may treat the game as a business
while the college player plays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The business of the game is different between the two levels. At the college level, the schools, teams,
and athletic departments make money throughout the season without paying the players. The stronger
or more popular the team and/or the player is, the more money the school makes. It is not uncommon
to see many fans in the stadium wearing team jerseys, as well as other apparel and team specific items.
College athletic departments receive funds from the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) based on the
team s progress in the Bowl games. The professional players are paid a salary based on their contract,
therefore, being paid to play the game. These players also earn endorsements from items sold with
their name on it, such as team jerseys and shirts. For example, Russell Wilson, quarterback for the
Super Bowl Champions Seattle Seahawks, has an annual salary of $700,000 and a net worth of
$4million. While at the same time, Jameis Winston, quarterback for the BCS National Champions
Florida State Seminoles, goes on to play another year of college football with no monetary
compensation. Both men are playing the same game, same position, and Championship winners.
However, different outcomes for the players themselves. Each level earns money from the fans who
buy tickets, fan gear and other items relating to the team name and franchise. Some teams are luckier
than others and have loyal fans, no matter how their favorite team performs, they still

The Case Outside Of Therapy
I would not conduct the child custody evaluation for him because this would be a dual role or multiple
relationship. Since I have already been counseling this client, and already have a relationship and
opinion (that he is a good person who loves his kids) with him, this may make it hard to remain
objective if I were to conduct the child custody evaluation. Also, there are two sides to every story,
thus even though the client seems nice and loving while in therapy, that may not be the case outside of
therapy. Also, entering into a multiple relationship is against the American Psychological Association
(APA) (2010) Ethical Principles. Ethical code 3.05 states that therapists should avoid multiple
relationships because being in one can impair their competence, effectiveness, objectivity and can put
the client at risk for harm or exploitation. The APA ethical principle of avoiding harm also applies to
this scenario (APA, 2010). If I was to do the custody evaluation for my client, and find that he should
not have custody, this would ruin our therapeutic alliance and greatly harm the client. Although some
therapists may belief that they would be competent and objective enough to conduct the child custody
evaluation for their current client, they should stay on the side of caution, not take the risk and refer
the client to a different professional who is competent in these evaluations.

Physical Layer Essay COMP247 Assignment 1 Van Vu 42872480 1) QueStiOn oNe Physical Layer, IEEE.802.3 The physical layer, inclusive of the cables that transport data are exposed to the environments and various other external factors making its reliability difficult to guarantee. Despite this, the physical layer has several of its own contributions to making a quality network. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has developed standards for physical ports and cables that have been generally accepted globally. This greatly simplifies the physical connection work required with only one type of cable needed that will fit any machine s ports. This further extends to the scalability of a network, allowing additional machines to be connected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By having the finer internal cables intertwining and twisting, it reduces the effect of electrical or magnetic interference on the signals By nature of how electrical work, more than once signal cannot be transmitted as they interfere with each other and data can be corrupted and be recoverable. A system of allocating time or sharing of the resource avoids this problem. There are options such as passing a token where only the token holder may transmit or time reservations. Though these methods work, they are inefficient as time is lost during token passing, or when resources are urgently needed. CSMA/CD and CSMA/CA protocols are designed to overcome is issue. CSMA/CA taps into and listens in on a line to check that not data is currently being transmitted. In the case that the line is unused the device may transmit its data allowing for the line to be used dynamically. This method has a blind spot, in the case two or more devices are listening on an idle line simultaneously, they will send simultaneously and each signal will interfere with the other. Though there are protocols to avoid this from happening again when each node resends their data, time lost can vary depending on the quantity of data sent. CSMA/CA resolves this by listening while transmitting, if a collision is detected the data stream is cut off and stopping data that will be corrupted being sent. This avoids wasted time, during which a resource is in use but nothing productive is achieved. Data ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This goal was directed at psychiatric and general hospitals with patients whose primary complaint is an emotional or behavior disorder, including substance abuse (according to DSM). This goal is directed at both types of hospitals for important reasons; (1) general hospitals do not have an environment that is conducive to the protection of individuals who are suicidal, and (2) psychiatric hospitals are constructed to protect individuals who are suicidal but have a high concentration of suicidal individuals and are not always staffed appropriately. It is something that each person holds on to, and lets it shape themselves, their personality, and their interactions with other people. Senator John Thune believes that, Having a Christian worldview shapes my decision making with respect to all aspects of my life. I always respect people in public life who are principled, and those principles have to connecte to something. And my faith is what serves as the anchor and directs my actions. The main principle of Postmodernism is to rid the world of religion, which if assuming Atheism as a main religion, it defeats the problem the Postmodernism tries to fight. For Postmodernists, truth is subjective. It is only found within a person, not applying to anything else. To derive ethics, Postmodernists There are three foundations of Postmodernism that come together to create to create the world view. The three are: atheism, an total denial of God, Naturalism, only the material world exists, and evolution, how man was created. These three things combine together to create a world view of postmodernism. Postmodernists believe in evolution, yet they will specifically never endorses a specific type due to the fact that it would set a universal law upon all. There is no single variable that can be narrowed down that is responsible for the ups and downs that we as a global economy experience in any given day, month, or year. Instead, the health of the global economy is heavily reliant on the amount of effort that is put into keeping and maintaining it. How is this done? By making sure that we are all on the same page and working toward a similar goal. So how exactly do the events happening in Brazil have such huge impacts on global economic welfare? Brazil s economy has been suffering for quite some time now. The country, part of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) grouping, was supposed to bring in a new wave of economic prosperity through abounding growth rates through the coming years. • 7. The Differences Between Vascular And Nonvascular Plants Land plants can be divided into three different groups. One of these groups are nonvascular plants which include liverworts, hornworts, and mosses. The other two which are the focus of this paper are vascular seedless plants and vascular seed plants. The difference between vascular and nonvascular plants is that vascular plants have vascular tissue which enables them to grow up and be bigger than nonvascular plants. The difference between seed and seedless vascular plants is the presence of a seed. A seed is defined by the 10th Edition of Campbell Biology as an adaption of some terrestrial plants consisting of an embryo packaged along with a store of food within a protective coat. This includes anything from apple seeds to dandelion seeds. The absence or presence of a seed changes how a plant reproduces and also leads to different advantages and disadvantages to the plant. Seedless vascular plants include such plants as ferns, horsetails, club mosses, and whisk ferns. They live in wet environments because they require water for reproduction. They reproduce through the use of spores. Using ferns as an example the spores are found on the underside of the leaves. They are found in cases called sori and each sorus holds many spores which are haploid. Spores are released and they form gametophytes. Gametophytes make gametes which are also haploid and both the egg and the sperm of the fern are created in the gametophyte, but in different parts. The egg is made in the ... Hunger Games Essay When children are forced to grow up fast at a young age due to traumatic events, it shapes them into fighters, when faced with life and death a person would do almost anything to assure survival. This is greatly demonstrated in the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins when the main character Katniss Everdeen s world is shifted upside down when her father dies and when she volunteers as tribute for the Hunger Games. After her father s death the weight of the world was on Katniss s shoulders, as she had to learn how to provide for, and keep her family alive. Her family consisted of her mother, who suffered severe depression after the death of her husband, and her younger sister Prim who meant the world to her. She inherited hunting ... She could not stand the thought of her sister being thrown into such an awful situation and she did the only thing she could to save her life. Fighting for others when they were too weak to fight for themselves was another characteristic that Katniss demonstrated throughout the novel. This was displayed in many cases. One way in which this was portrayed was when Katniss immediately without giving a thought to the matter decided to enroll herself in the hunger games in order to ensure Prim s safety as well as to save her the terror of the despicable games. With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me. I volunteer! I gasped. I volunteer as tribute! (Collins 22). This showed how Katniss stood up for her sister and fought for her when no one else would, she saved Prim s life and she risked it all for her. Katniss also took care of and risked much for Peeta when he was injured. As soon as it was announced that two people could win the hunger games if they were from the same district Katniss immediately made it her priority to find Peeta. You can t stop smoking if you don t want to, and you can t stop racism if people don t want to. But I ll do everything I can to help. According to UWS, one in five people living in Australia have experienced racist abuse. Nearly half of all Australian residents from a culturally and linguistically diverse background have experienced racism at some time in their life. According to FYA, approximately seven in ten teenagers have experienced racism throughout their life. The question still remains: does the preservation of culture, community and the environment depends on us? Absolutely. The culture of Australia in my opinion is the main aspect of this entire statement. I believe this is evident throughout the strong messages Randa Abdel Fattah states in her speech and, the everlasting words from the powerful speech Wei Li and Me. To begin with, racism is an unequivocal problem throughout Australian society. The essence of racism is one ethnic community believing they have superiority over another community or culture, and some of it is just ignorance. With Australia today being a multiethnic society, racism has been a part of our community for a very long time. For years and years, the depiction of the whites being superior over the Indigenous has happened all throughout Australia. • 10. Analysis Of The Book The Many Faces Of James Hook Olivia Young Mr. Albritton Neverland Variations 13 October 2016 The Many Faces of James Hook Whether reading the book or watching the movie, there are notable differences in the character better known as Captain Hook. When we first meet James Hook, he is a classic storybook villain: evil, hairy, and merciless, cruel even to his own crew. He despises Peter and the other children, and dreams of killing them all. Yet from the very beginning, we are made to understand that Hook is not quite an ordinary pirate. The captain of the Jolly Roger was able to use fear as a weapon to get everything he wanted, with the exception of a mother or defeating Peter Pan. Yet in both J.M. Barrie s novel Peter Pan and TriStar Pictures film Hook we can see a softer, more gentlemen like quality hidden far under the scary exterior. Hook is an exceptionally strange and convoluted character, both a villain and a gentleman yet he too experiences and displays regular human feelings that add to the complexity. Although he is not a fan favorite, without an antagonist such as James Hook, Peter Pan would have been far less interesting to readers and viewers everywhere. The first trait that comes to mind when picturing the terrifying captain of the pirates in Neverland is jealousy. Although a tough man in appearance, James Hook has a childlike pettiness about him. Whether it is toward his own men, Peter Pan, or Wendy and the lost boys, he does not hide his jealousy; rather, he uses it to get back at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bachelet, born in Santiago, is Chile s first female president, being elected in 2006 and reelected in 2014. Bachelet stood her ground against opposition in women s rights. Michelle talks of gender equality being a good business because it, in an economical sense, will boost economy and jobs. Michelle received her surgical degree and college. Michelle wants those who are in need of abortions to receive them. Bachelet has also passed laws that help those in need of abortions, receive them. Michelle changed the standard of Chile because before she was elected, gender equality was almost non existent, abortions were illegal, and job conditions were unacceptable. Bachelet has moved Chile in a good direction. Michelle Bachelet was born in Santiago to parents, Alberto Bachelet, a General in the Chilean Air Force, and Angela Jeria, an anthropologist. Throughout her life she lived in Quintero with them until her father was tortured and excessively interrogated to the extent of him dying in March of 1974, the year after this Bachelet and her mother were expelled from Chile. • 12. Gender Voting Rights In The Search For Equal Rights Since the beginning of time women have been viewed as inferior to men. Slowly, women have chipped away at this social construct from protesting for voting rights to joining the armed forces. Although women have made great advances in the search for equal rights, there are still many drawbacks even in the 21st century. Gender wage gap, double standards, and social media still threaten to hinder women in their everyday lives. Women have become more present in occupations traditionally male dominated. However, in 2015, a woman made 83% of what a man made. At this rate, it would take a woman 44 extra days of work to earn the same amount as a man. Why is this? Women continue to be more commonly present in lower paying jobs. This could be a big contributor to the pay gap. Another reason could be gender discrimination. According to a survey in 2013 by the Pew Research Center, women were two more times as likely to say they had been discriminated against at work (Brown and Patten). Another problem for women is lack of respect. Too often are men respected or congratulated for things that women are shamed for. For one example, women are endlessly shamed for having too many sexual partners. However, if a man has sexual relations with many women he is applauded. A woman s appearance is considered very important in today s culture. A woman who did not wake up and do her hair and makeup is often seen as lazy or a slob. With the plants and animals progressing all around the beautiful corals, it is spectacular. Located on the northeast coast of Australia, there lies a place just like this. This is the Great Barrier Reef. These coral reefs are called, the rainforest of the ocean, because it supports a huge diversity of life. Coral reefs are more than just beauty, they are a home to fish and other creatures. They protect humans against floods and storms. The reef not only contains an abundance of marine life, but it is also the world s largest coral reef system. It is so gigantic, astronauts could see it all the way from outer space. This paper offers an extensive amount of information about the Great Barrier Reef, including how it was formed, the animals that call it home, and how it is dying. In the Coral Sea of Queensland, Australia, the Great Barrier Reef covers the shore. It begins at the tip of Cape York Peninsula in the north and continues down to Bundaberg in the south. It is called The Great Barrier Reef because it creates a border between the coast and the Pacific Ocean. Having an area of about 344,400 km, it is monumental. The reef, stretching between 15 to 150 kilometers from the shore, is filled with brilliant, vivid fish and corals. It is also a physical manifestation of Dorian Gray s soul. This is its own form of ekphrasis: the portrait is describing his morality. It is achieving the effects that Dorian s physical form cannot. This adds yet another layer of complexity; a soul is being described by a painting, which is in turn being described to the reader. A solid object shows us in simplified terms state of Dorian s moral consciousness. At first, it only has a touch of cruelty in the mouth (Wilde 65). Each time he views it, it becomes worse, until it is just a hideous face on the canvas grinning at him (Wilde 154) It is a ledger upon which all his sins are recorded, piling one on top of the other until its renders the figure unrecognizable. Wilde was a strong proponent of this movement, and he incorporated many of its themes into his work. In the preface of The Portrait of Dorian Gray, Wilde starkly outlines his beliefs about art in a series of epigrams, saying, the artist is the creator of beautiful things. When examining the bloody and often tumultuous history of Great Britain prior to their ascent to power, one would not have predicted that they would become the global leader of the 18th century. Prior to the Treaty of Westphalia, which ended the Thirty Years War, the Spanish and the Holy Roman Empire held much of the power in Europe. Only with the suppression of Catholicism and the development of national sovereignty did Great Britain have the opportunity to rise through the ranks. The addition of the Bill of Rights to England s constitution pushed them forward into a political system not dominated by the interests and whims of the monarchy. William and Mary not only changed the religious course of Great Britain and the idea of divine right but also allowed the ideas of personal liberties and social welfare, encouraged by the Enlightenment, to gain momentum. In addition, William and Mary moved forward with their government by implementing new, modern economic policies which placed more focus on the merchants of the time. While William and Mary were busy ruling the British empire, John Locke was busy producing new ideas on how government should treat its people and vice versa. Chiefly influenced by the political mishap that led to the Glorious Revolution, Locke published his revolutionary work Two Treatises. As for age groups, ages 18 49 have shown 26 percent in the same trust rating, while 50 and older shows 38 percent. Summary Of The Greatest Generation By Tom Brokaw The stories of 47 Americans and their contribution to World War II as well as the struggles they faced were written down and shared through this book. Tom Brokaw, the author, shared some of their memories, dreams they had, their jobs, and how the war affected each of them personally. This book exposed this generation s remarkable bravery, their patriotism, and their accomplishments. Along with that, similar personal values, goals (both spoken and unspoken), and personality traits were shared between many of them. This particular group of Americans were modest people who often put the needs of others before their own. Many of them didn t go to college right away so they could fight for their country. • 31. Motherhood In Chicana Motherhood Chicana Motherhood: How Mothers Teach Us the Art of Self love and Influence Our Identity Introduction In the beginning, there were mothers. Like goddesses they create life, nurturing their offspring into adulthood and beyond. Through wisdom, culture, and tradition they educate their young on the wonders of life, gracing us with the opportunity to follow in their footsteps to become mothers ourselves. Through the study of Chicana feminism, it becomes apparent how motherhood is a recurring theme throughout much Chicana feminist art and literature, often discussing how these women fostered growth in multiple facets of their being through their general life experience. Perhaps, this is due to the role of a mother weaving the lives of their children, nursing them, guiding them, and creating a life that implements their own values and beliefs. They have the opportunity to create a mirror image or even an entirely new and improved version of themselves. Whether the maternal figure is a hero or villain, traditional or nontraditional, tangible or fictitious, these characters play a vital role in shaping the Chicana feminism we see today. However, one of the most interesting concepts is how these mothers contribute to the ways in which their daughters develop their own identities and individual practices that enable them to mother themselves. More specifically, how they learn to doctor wounds, process emotions and thought, and care for themselves in all aspects of life. Therefore, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the Internet was introduced to the world in the early 1990s, it has been slowly infecting society. It has taken about twenty years for the internet to impact all aspects of our lives. It seems that most people today would have difficulty imagining life without using the Internet on a daily basis. The Swimmer John Cheever Analysis Great works in literature are timeless; they educate the reader, amaze the reader, give a different or better understanding each time, and relatable to anyone who reads them. John Cheever s story The Swimmer is an example of a great work in literature. Exploring the diverse views, a reader can judge it and the various ways one can construe. Each time the reader reads Cheever s work; the reader can form a different interpretation or understand the story in a different way. Understanding a powerful work of literature can give the reader a different interpretation of the story including seeing a familiarity to another great work. In the article, Damned in a fair life: Cheever s The Swimmer by Stanley Kozikowski, he compares the story s central metaphor and structure to the notable Dante s Inferno. The lost poet, trying to escape from the dark woods of sin, struggles to free himself from the worldly realm of evil to which he must ultimately return, and at a deeper level, pass through (1,2). One could see the connection between the two significant writings as the main character in Cheever s work. Neddy is fogged with denial of his true self by intoxicating himself ultimately and too late realizing in the end how much he had missed. In addition, Neddy is pool hopping his neighbors pools, becoming aware of what is happening around himself like Dante going through the levels of hell both going through each path and struggling to continue. • 44. The Amphitheater Named After The Flavian Dynasty The Flavian amphitheater named after the Flavian dynasty emperors who built it or better known as The Colosseum was a large arena built in 80 C.E. and used for gladiatorial games, mock sea battles, theater plays, and public executions until its fall to christianity in 404 C.E. It was called the Colosseum for the great statue of Nero nearby named Colossus. The Colosseum, also known as the flavian amphitheater was built of travertine stone from the quarries of Albulae. The massive stone blocks that made up a good portion of the seating, arena, and the massive stone columns that supported the magnificent structure were moved to Rome on a road constructed specifically for that purpose. The seating consisted of 45,000 seats, arranged in an oval surrounding the arena. It also had 5,000 standing places for the Roman public. It had 80 arched entrances all around the arena, with 4 of them being non accessible to the public at the minor and major axises. The entrances at the major axis provided direct access to the arena. The minor axis entrances provided access to the special seating boxes for the emperor, empress and other very important people. It measured 527 meters in circumference and its diameters were 189 and 156 meters, with the height of the structure being 48 meters high. • 45. Reaction to Castro Announces the Revolution Essay I do not feel that I know enough about Fidel Castro to be an expert on his life or how he ruled Cuba, but the little that I do currently know, I would not consider him a kind and caring man. With that in mind, some of the comments made by Fidel Castro in Castro Announces the Revolution, were shocking to me, since he tries to make the point that he cares for the people of Cuba and the revolution was set into motion for the benefit of the people, not an egotistical leader. At the start of this story, Fidel Castro recalls images from his youth of revolutionaries carrying weapons and demanding that things were done their way. He speaks of the fear of being killed. Castro goes on to talk about how these revolutionaries always seem to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He says that if that was the case, then the revolution would not have been worth it. We know now that is exactly what became of Castro a powerful man that became the king figure that he so vehemently despised. Castro praises the people of Cuba. No general can do more than the people. No army can do more than the people. (342) He comments that the people won the war. Without an army, tanks, planes or heavy guns, the people were ...able to win the battle for liberty. (342) He states that the people were important. The revolution does not serve my interests as a person, nor those of any other commander or captain. The interests the revolution serves are those of the people. (342) The remarks again refer to the revolution being about the people as a whole and not of an egotistical leader. Who was Castro trying to convince of this? Was he trying to convince the people or himself? One of most shocking statements that Fidel makes is, And I want to tell the people and the mothers of Cuba that I will resolve all problems without shedding a drop of blood. (342) Up until this point in time, Castro was surrounded by blood shed. There was plenty of blood shed during the revolution and after Castro was in control of Cuba, his brother, Raul Castro, and Che Guevara oversaw the rounding up and executions of roughly 160 Batista officers (Sweig 39). They will go through whatever it takes to rip you to shreds, even if it kills them. The novel starts off in quite a sickening way, jumping straight into the plot and describing a boy getting brutally murdered by his mother and sister. They didn t care that it was his birthday, they only wanted his blood. Through the next few chapters we are greeted by the three main characters, Daisy, Cal, and Brick. These people have one thing in common, and it s that everyone is trying to kill them. They band together with other teens to try and figure out why the world is out to kill them. I found the story to be absolutely thrilling in the beginning, with me just being thrown straight into the action. The vivid descriptions of the zombies were downright chilling. I am a huge fan of zombie movies, and was pleasantly surprised that these depictions are just as creepy as in the movies. What interests me is how similar these people are compared to one of my favorite zombie movie, 28 Days Later. In both the novel and in the movie, the zombie like creatures are infected with something that gives them an insurmountable rage, making them want to destroy every person in their path. These zombies are fast and have no thresholds for pain, giving them the ability to run themselves into the ground in order to capture their prey. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The business of the game is different between the two levels. At the college level, the schools, teams, and athletic departments make money throughout the season without paying the players. The stronger or more popular the team and/or the player is, the more money the school makes. It is not uncommon to see many fans in the stadium wearing team jerseys, as well as other apparel and team specific items. College athletic departments receive funds from the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) based on the team s progress in the Bowl games. The professional players are paid a salary based on their contract, therefore, being paid to play the game. These players also earn endorsements from items sold with their name on it, such as team jerseys and shirts. For example, Russell Wilson, quarterback for the Super Bowl Champions Seattle Seahawks, has an annual salary of $700,000 and a net worth of $4million. While at the same time, Jameis Winston, quarterback for the BCS National Champions Florida State Seminoles, goes on to play another year of college football with no monetary compensation. • 48. The Case Outside Of Therapy I would not conduct the child custody evaluation for him because this would be a dual role or multiple relationship. Since I have already been counseling this client, and already have a relationship and opinion (that he is a good person who loves his kids) with him, this may make it hard to remain objective if I were to conduct the child custody evaluation. Also, there are two sides to every story, thus even though the client seems nice and loving while in therapy, that may not be the case outside of therapy. Also, entering into a multiple relationship is against the American Psychological Association (APA) (2010) Ethical Principles. Ethical code 3.05 states that therapists should avoid multiple relationships because being in one can impair their competence, effectiveness, objectivity and can put the client at risk for harm or exploitation. The APA ethical principle of avoiding harm also applies to this scenario (APA, 2010). If I was to do the custody evaluation for my client, and find that he should not have custody, this would ruin our therapeutic alliance and greatly harm the client. Although some therapists may belief that they would be competent and objective enough to conduct the child custody evaluation for their current client, they should stay on the side of caution, not take the risk and refer the client to a different professional who is competent in these evaluations. 1b.
