Indian Ocean Trade Network
Trade was an integral part of survival and income during the common era. Between 600 C.E. and
1450 C.E, the Indian Ocean trade network and the Trans Saharan trade network had Arab traders
travel and change the way sea trade developed and became extraordinarily successful. Trade created
communication and familiarity between people of different background and where they reside
from. Communication of people lead to diversification of culture, creating unions of people starting
enormous perceptions of culture. The Trans Saharan trade and the Indian Ocean trade were very
similar yet very different. Items that were exchanged through trading were a bit different and the
culture was more diverse throughout the Indian Ocean trade than the Trans Saharan... Show more

During the fourth century, trade of the Red Sea and some measure of the Arabian Sea was
controlled by the kingdom of Axum in Christian Ethiopia. Arab traders gained authority through the
progress of merchandise, and Arab armies lead to diminish the power of the Christian Ethiopeans.
The main trading link between East Africa and the Indian Ocean was contributed by Arab
merchants. Arab sailor began to consider importance in the Indian Ocean trade at the beginning of
the seventh century. Arabs from the south were very familiar with sea trade. Arab armies started
moving north and came in contact with the Sassanians of Iran. They were the previous masters of
the Indian Ocean and the Arab armies learned new skills from them. After the capital of Baghdad
was built by the Abbasid dynasty, Arab sailors became experts of the Indian Ocean trade. Arab

Cause And Effect On Air Pollution
Diesel trucks, old fire extinguishers and that wood in your fireplace, all have one thing in
common; they re hurting our planet and our bodies. Researchers studied for decades now the
effect that air pollution has on our bodies and our atmosphere. The emissions from a diesel engine
can result in a direct attack against our respiratory systems, this same attack of the atmosphere can
come from Chlorofluorocarbons that are emitted from old refrigerants. Due to the fact that air
pollution has greatly increased over the last 150 years, understanding the chemistry behind it has
not only become a large topic of choice by researchers but has also been governed by officials.
Diesel emissions are the greatest output of atmospheric nanoparticles such as cerium oxide and
nitrogen oxides which are the cause for more than two thirds of all particulate matter that will emit
from U.S. transportation alone.1Since diesel emissions output these semi volatile particles at such a
high rate, they have started to create a ground level ozonewhich can irritate the respiratory system
and cause cardiovascular illnesses. While diesel fuel is combusting, any excess turns into soot or
particulate matter. This is composed of hundreds of elements which include particulates of all
sizes, including ultra fine particulates that are small enough to pass through the cells of human
lungs. When these particulates get brought into the atmosphere they will vaporize and oxidize
which forms a greater mass of secondary organic aerosol. These ultra fine particles are such an
increasing danger to humans because they make up 80 90% of all diesel emissions. They are
causing tens of thousands of deaths worldwide but particularly in Europe, where there are higher
populations in smaller areas.2These deaths are mostly coming from the nitric oxide being emitted
by the uncombusted diesel. (See Figure 1.) An estimated 100,000 people will continue to die a
year from diesel pollutants if governments don t start to take action. The strange part about nitric
oxide is that the same chemicals that come out of diesel emissions are currently being used as a
steroid for bodybuilders. The use of this steroid and the additive of nitric oxide in the atmosphere
can cause

Reporting and Disclosure

Reporting and Disclosure
Discussion Questions
1. Transparent financial reporting means that timely and accurate disclosures are made on all
important matters affecting a company s financial position and performance. It implies openness,
communication, and accountability. Transparent financial reporting protects investors because
nothing is hidden from them. Investors can better assess the risks of owning securities when
information is truthful and complete. Transparent financial reporting also improves market quality.
It enhances investor confidence. Open communication creates markets that are fair, orderly,
efficient, and free from abuse and misconduct.
2.Four reasons why multinational corporations are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5.Triple bottom line reporting refers to reporting on a company s economic, social, and
environmental performance. It is a form of social responsibility reporting designed to demonstrate
good corporate citizenship. So called sustainability reports are an increasingly popular means of
triple bottom line reporting. There is substantial variation in social reporting today. More regulation
would improve comparability, but it might also stifle reporting innovations. The usefulness of
social reporting to outside parties, particularly investors, needs to be demonstrated before
implementing more regulation for it.
6. Often we expect to observe less voluntary disclosure by companies in emerging market countries
than by those in developed countries: a. Equity markets are relatively less developed in many
emerging market countries, resulting in lower total demand for company information by investors
and analysts. b. In many emerging market countries, most financing is supplied by banks and
insiders such as family groups. This also leads to less demand for timely, credible public disclosure,
and in these markets enhanced disclosure may have limited benefits.
In general, we expect to

What I Learned From Taking American Civilization 1700
At the beginning of the semester I wrote an assignment addressing what I wanted to learn from
taking American Civilization 1700. I went through the course syllabus and I chose skills that I
thought were important for me to know better as well as important to my future career as a
teacher. Two skills that I did not list that I wanted to work on were comparing and contrasting.
Comparing and contrasting are two skills that I thought I was quite good at and had no problems
with. When it came to do the Written Assignment #2 Compare and Contrast Essay, I found out
that I was mistaken in my assumption. I struggled and had to obtain help from the professor on
what there was to compare and contrast between the two documents the essay was about. After the
professor helped and guided me, I was able to learn how to properly compare the similarities and
contrast the differences between two different documents. I chose to post my first written
assignment as my signature assignment on my personal eportfolio because I am proud of how it
turned out and I feel it was the assignment I learned the most from. I didn t just learn to compare
and contrast, I learned to interpret old documentation and references, I learned that the same time
frame in history, for example, the immigration period that the assignment covered, can have two
very different perspectives. The paper I wrote had both strength and weaknesses. The strengths
were, I did a good job at finding thing to compare and contrast, but

Goodbye to All That Analytical Essay
A Fair City
I could speak of Joan Didion s use of rhetorical devices. I could describe every subtle simile she
imposes and preach of her incredible use of personification, but I think the most important piece
of the essay would, then, be neglected. In Goodbye to All That, Didion compares her experiences
in New York to the occurrences at a fair. This metaphor is discussed in a very roundabout way.
Ultimately, though, Didion (like anybody) grew tired and dissatisfied with the fair (in her case
NYC). Fairs lure people in through the gates with bright lights, loud buzzers, and exhilarating
games. These same tactics help to attract tourists to New York City. Like a kid at a fair, Didion
becomes enticed by such distractions and cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She admits, Even that late in the game I still liked going to parties, all parties, bad parties
(p.687). The connection to the fair in this case stems from a child s ability to be so keyed up
and eager to play as many games as they can, that they will even play games they do not like.
Bad games (Intentional fragment). This view and interest of the city, this time at the fair, ends.
The ending is not a definite point in time, but instead a gradual distaste for the details. Like the
same child at the same fair, at the same time, every year, Didion outgrows the city and is no
longer intrigued. She states, I stopped believing in new faces (p.687) and realizes, It is
distinctively possible to stay too long at the Fair (p.687). She cannot stand the identical
conversations at Grand Central, the stuck up women on Madison Ave., Times Square, or the
New York Public Library. Eventually, Didion avoids these places. Like a boy who has outgrown
the annual fair, she promises to return after a six month leave of absence. Three years after
Didion made that promise, she finds herself returning to the fair. Back in New York, she realizes
her acquaintances are no more and her friends had moved. She states, We stayed for ten days, and
then we took the afternoon flight back to Los Angeles (p.688). Boys, a couple years removed from
the correct age for attending the fair, promise to return. Sometimes they do return and sometimes
they do not. Like Didion did, they

Portraiture Depictions Of Queen Elizabeth I
Portraiture Depictions of Queen Elizabeth I Elizabeth Tudor or Queen Elizabeth I was and is
one of the greatest monarchs in English history. Obtaining the crown at a young age of twenty
five, she seized a bankrupt country caused by previous rulers, a country with an unstable
religion, and loose ties with other great powers of the world. Elizabeth I ruled for nearly half a
century granting her the remembrance with reigning with stability, the flourishment of the arts,
and increased trade. Elizabeth s sense of duty to her people was very admirable and that is one
the reasons that makes her such a great monarch. She was committed to her people and never
swayed from doing such that. In saying that, one of the ways people showed their love and to
show her greatness it was represented in portraits. Portraiture of Queen Elizabeth I illustrates an
evolution of her reign over England and Ireland in the years of 1558 1603. Early portraits of
young Elizabeth showcase what is going on her life or what is important to her at that specific
time. Objects such as prayer books and status clothing would be displayed in the earlier portraits.
Later portraits of Elizabeth also showcase her life and the importance of virginity, purity, crowns,
and other effects. Representations of simplicity to later complex imagery are used to exhibit her
power as well as allusions or stories to convey the Elizabeth. Progressively, Elizabeth transformed
into the goddess Gloriana, engrossed in imperial

Impact Of Globalization On The Economy
Globalisation and the economy are two interchangeable ideas with one another. Globalisation is not
a single concept since it encompasses multiple components such as economic integration; the
transfer of policies across borders; the transmission of knowledge and cultural stability it is a
global process (Al Rodhan Stoudmann, 2006). The best representation of globalisation is the
process in which businesses create international influence where they can then begin to operate on
a global scale (Al Rodhan Stoudmann, 2006). A country that succeeds in globalisation is one that
will become an economic force in the world. Third world countries like Cubahave some of the

In the case of Cuba and the United States globalisation refers to the increased economic integration
between these two countries. Nonetheless, with little doubt among economists it can be shown
that used effectively globalisation has produced significant gains at the global level. However,
there is a threat that globalisation can intensify the gap between rich and poor between a country
and across nations. Globalisations linked to politics as it is a part of a government process since
the government can shape or limit the possibilities for private entrepreneurship (Dreher, Gaston
Martens, 2010). Politics is also influenced by the globalisation of a country because of the
international relations between countries. Third world countries are seen as obsolete and
constricted because they are considered ineffective by having too many transnational connections
and not having the ability to grow and gain international connections (Haynes). Third world
countries like Cuba who are seen as economically weak will have a harder time being incorporated
into the global world and therefore politically, the country will not excel as much as it could.
A country is affected economically by globalisation as the flow of goods and services and factors
of production have both direct and indirect effects on a nation state (Dreher, Gaston Martens, 2010).
Globalisation has the ability to be very

Corresponding Themes in Frankenstein and Blade Runner
Ridley Scott s film Blade Runner reflects some of the key themes seen in Mary Shelley s classic
novel Frankenstein. For one, both the sources touch on the necessity of creators taking
responsibility for their creations. Another key theme established in both works is the idea that
emotional complexity and knowledge, over memory and appearance, allow people to be defined as
human beings.
Throughout the novel Frankenstein, author Mary Shelley builds upon the theme that one must take
responsibility for the actions and well being of their creations. Protagonist Victor Frankenstein
consistently toils with the degree of responsibility he owes to the monster he created. Initially,
Frankenstein completely abandons his creation, as the creature notes when he says, Yet you, my
creator, detest and spurn me, thy creature... (Shelley 83). When the monster pleads for a female
counterpart, Victor says, I refused, and I did right in refusing, to create a companion... He showed
unparalleled malignity and selfishness in evil; he destroyed my friends... (Shelley 200). Victor
fails to sympathize with his creation and fails to understand that all creatures desire something
from their creator. A parallel theme of the disasters that occur when a creator doesn t take
responsibility for its creations can be found in the 1982 film Blade Runner. In this film, Eldon
Tyrell, the creator of the rogue Replicants, takes absolutely no responsibility for the danger he has
created when he relegates the job of

One peril from bringing a wide ranging scope into this argument, is the need to then reassert how
this would assert itself, with comparisons from which we ve analyzed, and understood the
sublime better. The where and when would at least improve, by habits exhibited today. Reserving
it and beauty as synonymous terms might have once been serviceable, but after what Burke and
Shaw went about to put in place, this acceptance of the darker, more drastic sides of our world is

The time and place is still the Romantic Age s height, and mostly unfolds at the locale of the Swiss
Alps, which was then regarded as another otherwise untenable bit of natural space, which, to mount
it, seemed as foregone the possibility as any. Though not integral to the literal plot beyond the realm
of semantics, it would be remiss to not point out how the moments of utmost contemplation,
creativity, or the aforementioned spark of inspiration come about in settings like, or else
comparable to this. Nature is seen as both the blessing and a curse in its chosen effects that re
reaped on others, and like the titular doctor and his terrible creation take to flight in these
landscapes to discover their answers, or maybe some solace, there s a reminder of the consequences
from perverting nature. Even as Victor had solely sought to emulate its more dizzying

Memory In Frankenstein
Whether good or bad, past memories can either motivate people to change and grow or cause
people to remain stagnant. This is especially true for Madame Ranevsky, Lopakhin, and Firs
from The Cherry Orchard, by Anton Chekhov. The Cherry Orchard is a comedic play about a
widow, Madame Ranevsky, who is in the process of losing her beloved cherry orchard due to the
debt that she has collected following the emancipation of the serfs in 1861. Madame Ranevsky,
Lopakhin, and Firs all have different memories of the past. Both Madame Ranevsky and Firs
have good memories of the past Madame R with her childhood and Firs with his happy days of
being a serf. Lopakhin, on the other hand, has bad memories of the past because of being born into

Madame Ranevsky does not want to cut down the orchard because of the memories it holds,
regarding her parents and childhood. Madame Ranevsky s shows her fondness for the estate
when she points out that her life would have no meaning if it were sold. In other words, the
good memories memories of her pure and happy childhood (12) is what is keeps Madame
Ranevsky from accepting Lophakin s plan. She feels that her memories would be ruined if the
orchard is destroyed. In fact, Madame Ranevsky acknowledges this attachment to orchard due to
the good memories. She tells Lopakhin: Oh! If only I could free my neck and shoulders from
the stone that weighs them down! If only I could forget my past! (12). Madame Ranevsky
makes the point that her feelings regarding the past is weighing her down and preventing her
from accepting Lophakin s plan, so her debts can be relieved. The past that Madame Ranevsky is
referring to is her happy childhood memories at the orchard. Hence, Madame Ranevsky s happy
childhood memories attach her to the orchard and makes her not want to lose it. Because of this
conundrum, Madame Ranevsky essentially does not think about anything else throughout the play
b besides whether or not the orchard is going to be sold. Instead of focusing on ways she could

Controversies On Native American Names
Dajana Nalvarte Sociology November 10, 2014 Controversies on Native American Names For
many years several schools, sports, companies, things, and mascots have their names named
after Native Americans. The Native Americans have been fighting to take their names back after
so many years. They feel that it is an offensive expression to use their names on things and want
the names to be changed to something else. Then you have the opposing side that say the name
is a form of positive respect towards the Native Americans. This becomes a controversy amongst
both sides because both have different opinions on what the names stand for. Throughout the
United States about 4,600 schools use Native Americans names for their teams and mascot (99;
pt.3). These schools use logos of people, animals, and cartoon characters of the Native American
to represent their teams (99; pt. 3). For example, Huntley High School in Huntley, III has used a
Native American name for their sports team, and mascot for about 70 year (99; pt. 3). Not only
is the school recognized for being the Redskins, but they have been using the name Redskins
respectfully for all these years (99; pt.3). Even though the school is proud of the name and use it as
a positive symbol others say they are degrading and offended the Native Americans (99; pt. 3). It

GLOBULINS There are various plasma globulins which have been identified in the blood plasma
1)О‘1 globulin: also known as transcortin. It binds to a number of steroidal drugs such as cortisone
and prednisone so also known a corticosteroid binding globulin
2)A2 globulin: also known as ceruloplasmin. It generally binds to vitamins A, D, E and K and also
to cupric ions.
3)О’1 globulin: also known as transferrin and it binds to ferrous ions.
4)B2 globulin: it binds to carotinoids.
5)Y globulin: It generally binds to antigens.
METHODS FOR MEASUREMENT OF PPB
Many successful methods to measure the degree of plasma protein binding of drugs have been
derived. All these method work by physically separating the unbound drug from the bound drug and
calculating the relative fractions.
Some beneficial techniques to measure plasma protein binding are:
a)Equilibrium dialysis
b)Ultrafiltration
c)Ultracentrifugation
d)Microdialysis
e)Gel filtration
f)Circular dichroism
g)Microspheres of albumin
There are some other techniques also which are utilized to a lesser extent such as micro extraction
and optical biosensors such that they could be used for highly protein bound drugs. None of the
methods could be judged as superior over others as all these methods possess some advantages as
well as disadvantages.

Also, Dracula s power is being used to protect something he loves instead to do the worse. The
movie Dracula: Untold, Dracula s power was used to protect his family using the same abilities

A Leader And An Ethical Leader Essay
Paul Bear Bryant Paul Bear Bryant once ended a quote with the price of victory is high, but so
are the rewards. (King King, 2006, p. 53). That still rings true today as leaders look back on their
journeys, and the substantial price that it took in reaching their vision. I claim Paul Bear
Bryant was indeed a visionary leader and an ethical leader as he continuously rallied countless
men around a common goal of excellence and effectively guided them to achieve that very goal
not only on the football field but in life. He was able to do so by having a strong understanding
of diversity and the impact it had in the building of his coaches and players, as well as what it took
to advance those individuals toward the vision by way of transformational leadershipand effective
use of Inspirational Motivation. Bryant often led by example, and some of these examples were
displayed in the way he chose to stay true to principles and avoid ethical traps in his disciplining of
star quarterback, Joe Namath. He further displayed his ethical style in leading his team through
racial integration in the early 1970 s by having the open mindedness and intellectual courage it
took to make that unpopular decision. In the next few pages, I will display how Bryant was a
visionary and ethical leader, and then reflect on the visionary and ethical leadership experiences
within my own career: how I used diversity and inspirational motivation in reaching our F 35 goal

How to Have Flawless Skin
Flawless skin is all the rage these days and rightfully so but dark spots can form and detract from
our beauty. Hyperpigmentation, as it s technically referred to, can happen to any skin type,
manifest in any size, shape, shade or quantity. It s defined as the build up of melanin, the pigment
responsible for your skin s color. What causes dark spots anyway?
Dark spots can appear for a number of reasons, here are some common ones:
Sun Exposure
A little sun a day is in fact good for the skin but extended periods of sunlight can do much harm.
This is the most common cause of hyperpigmentation because melanin soaks up the sun s uv ray
energy. Sun damage may not even show until years after exposure!
Injured or Acne prone skin.
Conditions that compromise the skin, like acne or eczema, can leave behind scars (dark spots).
These can either heal and fade completely over time or get worse due to sun exposure.
Aged Skin
Aged skin is thin and weak. Though dark spots are not caused by the natural aging proces, these
spots appear in the form of sun spots, liver spots or age spots.
So how do I avoid or remove dark spots? Well, prevention is always cure but you wouldn t be
reading this article if you didn t already have dark spots. Lets get right to it!

Benefits Of Leisure And Leisure
Results
Benefits of Leisure Although recreation and leisure has been proven to be beneficial to the
physical and mental health of youth, sports participation has declined from 77% in 1992 to 59%
in 2005 (Holt, Kingsley, Tink, Scherer, 2010). In 2005 Spinney and Millward (2010) did a study
determining that despite the benefits of leisure those living in financial poverty are not participated
in active programs as they are costly, despite having the desire to. Physical inactivity can have
serious physical consequences, it can lead to obesity, heart disease, diabetes, different types of
cancer, and osteoporosis (Weiss, Platt, Paradis, 2007). When families and individuals who are
LI do not have equal access to recreation and leisure programs, it makes sense then that their risk
for these consequences can increase. Aside from unequal access to leisure it has also been
determined that people who are LI often do not use resources that may be provided to them,
either due to not knowing they exist, or issues with transportation, view of poor health, or lack of
motivation (Weiss et al, 2007). Aside from physically active leisure, there are also benefits to
more passive leisure as it allows individuals to detach from their other responsibilities, such as
work (Sonnentag, 2012). The benefits are often psychological and can help reduce stress and
increase wellbeing and social skills (Sonnentag, 2012). Ruskin et al (2003) understands that
affordable leisure benefits all aspects

2Abstract There is a direct correlation between corporate finance performance and women in
leadership roles. The number of female college graduates and overall percentage of females in the

One of the reasons that
5qualified women are not in that pool, is because there are not visible to companies. Therefore
companies and also women need to take actions like: 1. Develop and introduce mentoring
programs (pairing senior women with company chairmen as mentors) 2. Build up systematically
contacts (networking inside and outside the company) 3. Women have to inform company
bosses of the progress in their developments 4. Chief executives have to promote women to their
executive committees Regulatory back up, like quotas, are required, because some men over 60
think that suitable females don t exist because they have never had women as their peers, and
they think women can t take the pressure involved in serving on a board. Furthermore, these
quotas forces companies to develop strategies and programs to retain, attract and develop high
qualified women, who can enter the boardroom. But there is also a down side of quotas.
Companies have to avoid pushing too low qualified women into boardrooms only to meet these
quotas. This will harm the qualified women more than the quotas will help. Work life Balance
With women now making up almost half of the labor force in the Unit States and Europe, they are
increasingly juggling work with care giving responsibilities at home. The solution for this
dilemma is work flexibility and scheduling. There are several solutions and possibilities to increase

The Importance Of Citizenship In The United States
The citizenship clause was adopted through the 14th amendment to the constitution in July of 1868.
The story of the citizenship clause in the United States is the story of the Civil War. In Dred Scott
vs. Sandford, the Supreme Court decision that arguably concluded a war inevitable, the justices
found that black people even those born in the United Stateswere not considered citizens. Black
people were considered an inferior class of people, who had been overpowered by the dominant
race and had no rights but such as those who held the power and the Government might choose to
grant them. This clause represented Congress s reversal of a portion of the Dred Scott vs. Sandford
decision which had declared that African Americans could not become citizens of the United States.
After the Civil War, Congress overruled Dred Scott and passed the 14th Amendment granting
birthright citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the
jurisdiction thereof , before this every state decided the citizenship of a person. The United States
and Canada are the only nations that allow birthright citizenship, no matter the legal status of the
parents giving them full United States citizenship. This clause was originally designed to give
birthright citizenship to formerly enslaved people and their children. But the Supreme Court
confirmed in a later ruling, it also gives citizenship to anyone born in America, even in cases where
the parents aren t citizens of

10 Things I Hate About You Chick Flick Analysis
A Chick Flick as broadly agreed upon is the kind of films that mostly appeal to a female audience.
Even the name itself is a bit offensive. It implies that films having female characters are
appealing just to women spectators, and films with men, as protagonists are more commonly
considered as widespread, while those who have bunches of ladies in them are so called Chick
Flicks , and in this way, a corner shallow kind. Most of the time these films convey the point that
ladies live happily ever after when they get the chance to discover intimate romance. Other Chick
Flicks introduce a solid female protagonist but, as the film advances the hero needs to change
herself of to adjust to her end goal to observe affection, to be recognized by her adoration intrigue,
or to fit into her partner s life. Most commonly the female protagonist is a stunningly beautiful
woman, who likewise happens to be blonde rather than a brunette, youthful, white and thin. Yet she
needs to have a blemish, which would make her more human and in this way, more relatable to lots
of people. 10 Things I Hate About Youis likely the most clear illustration. However she definitely
must be physically dazzling like all the female characters in the film, with a specific end goal to
keep the present magnificence ongoing.

its teachings.

The Gnostics were dualists and they claimed there must be two Gods: a God of the material
world in which we live in now, and a Supreme, remote and unknowable Divine Being. The God
of the material world was called a Г‚ DemiurgeГ‚ (a term once used by Plato) or Г‚ CreatorГ‚ [7].
The Demiurge God was the immediate source of creation and ruled the world we lived in. This
God was the God of the Jews. Valentius, a Gnostic theologian, further claimed that the
emergence of the Demiurge was due to the fall of Sophia the last of the three Г‚ aeonsГ‚ . The
spiritual world or Г‚ pleromaГ‚ is compromised of 30 Г‚ aeonsГ‚ emanated by the Primal Ground
of Being. Sophia was one of these Г‚ aeonsГ‚ .[8]
The Gnostics argued that the God of the Jews either did not know about the Supreme Being or if
he did know, he concealed the identity. The Gnostics went on to argue that Jesus Christ came as
a messenger of the Supreme Being to bring Г‚ gnosisГ‚ . As he was Divine, he temporarily
inhabited a human body which was that of Jesus. He did not die and he was not resurrected. They
were just Г‚ play actingГ‚ (the doctrine known as Г‚ docetismГ‚ )[9]
Like the Gnostics, a Christian thinker called Marcion was determined to pull Christianity away
from its Jewish roots. He maintained, like the Gnostics, that the God of the Old

Immigrants and Social Control Theory
For years, society has attempted to come up with reasons as to why immigrants are involved in
criminal activity at a higher rate than native born Americans. Some point to the fact that immigrants
tend to face acculturation and assimilation problems while the majority of native born Americans
do not. Some even speculate it is because immigrants tend to establish themselves in disorganized
neighborhoods that are characterized by cultural, social or biological differences which are all often
associated with crime. This relationship between immigrants and crime has been in debate for over
100 years and continues to be a controversial issue.
During the 19th century, rapid population was brought on by the migration of outsiders, notably

This is where the social theory comes in to play and approaches this relationship in a different
way. Developed in 1969 by Travis Hirschi, social control theoryattempts to answer the ultimate
question of why we all do not commit crimes. Social control theories are theories of socialization
in which they consider the extent to which individuals learn certain habits, attitudes and
perspectives of a society. Hirschi suggests that individuals who have a strong and flexible bond
to society will be far less likely to engage in criminal activities or delinquent behaviors, whereas
those who have weak bonds will. In other words, the health of a group is determined by how well
all the members of that group conform to the group s norms. Sociologist Emile Durkheim explains
it best in his example of a society of saints, where although each saint was law abiding, there would
still be group norms that would separate the better saints from the less devoted (Durkheim,

In the business world companies are always trying to maximize their earning potential by
strategically investing in short term financing. In terms of finance short term may mean months or
even a couple of years. The type of finance method that is used is contingent on the specific
needs of the corporation. These methods include trade credit, bank credit, financing through
commercial paper, foreign borrowing, and the use of collateral, accounts receivable financing,
inventory financing and hedging to reduce borrowing risk. Trade credit is the practice of
purchasing goods now and paying for them later. Trade credit is widely used and is the least
expensive and most convenient form of short term financing (McHugh, McHugh Nickels, 1999, p.
573). When a company purchases goods on credit an invoice is received outlining the terms of
repayment. An invoice contains terms such as 2/10, net 30. The total bill is due in 30 days, but
the supplier has extended a discount if the amount is paid in full within 10 days. Finance managers
use the information on the invoice to perform an analysis to find out if the discount is worth paying
the invoice in advance or if there is opportunity for more earning potential if invested elsewhere.
Banks issue credits to organizations seeking funds for there ventures. The bank usually prefers a
self liquidating loan in which the use of funds will ensure a built in or automatic repayment scheme

Women And The Role Of Women In The 1920 s
Women of The 1920s
During the first World War I women were left at home to try and figure out how they were going
to care for their families. Their husband, father, and brothers were sent off to war. Many
companies around the United States were left with production needs and little to no employees to
do the job. In a time period, where women are expected to be confident and independent, they had
to also realize they had little to no power in society. They had societal rules that they must stay at
home to cook, clean, and care for the children. With the men who were prominent in their lives
coming and going from war. These factors caused the birth of a new era. This is the era where
women were emerging. Women were changing by being more independent sexually and expressing
their emotions through music, poetry, and movies.
One important theme of the women of the 1920 s that connects various aspects of the women is
their sexuality. The women before those who became empowered in the 1920 s would never open
up about their sexuality. The women prior to the 1920 s had an image of modesty and were
viewed to be married to only one man. In 1920, the women began to express their sexual desires
freely. Singers like Bessie Smith could paint a picture and bring anything to life with just her
voice. One example by Bessie Smith I m Wild About That Thing . In this song, Bessie Smith
sings of how she loves her man and how happy he makes her. In her lyrics she says Do it easy

History And History Of Fuel Cells
History of fuel cells according to Vladimir S. Bagotsky (2012)
Luigi Galvani (1737 1798)
In 1791, the Italian physiologist Luigi Galvani discovered that the muscle contractions, similar to
the discharged of a Leyden charge, will occur when two metals touch the nerve of a frog.
Alexandro Volta (1745 1827)
In 1800, Alexandro Volta designed a device called Volta pile that originated from the phenomenon
discovered by Galvani. The Volta pile is the prototype of electrochemical power sources such as
battery and was of significance of development is the science of both electricity and
electrochemistry.
Sir William Robert Grove (1811 1896)
In 1830s, A British chemist Sir William Robert Grove conducted a series of experiment on water
electrolysis. His device consisted of two platinum electrodes dipping into water acidified with
sulfuric acid. Grove assumed that by channeling current, water can be decomposed to hydrogen
and oxygen and the possibility of opposite reaction. But after disconnecting the current, the
electrodes at which the hydrogen and oxygen had been evolve as gasses were polarized. A certain
potential difference was preserve between the electrodes. Sir Grove named his invention as gas
voltaic battery. His invention becomes the first prototype of fuel cells.
Ludwig Mond (1839 1909) and Carl Langer (1889)
Fifty years after the first prototype was invented, Mond and Langer accomplished successful
experiments regarding the generation of electric current with

A Rising Nation Summary
A Rising Nation Book Report A Rising Nation , by Kenneth C. Davis was published by Harper
Collins in 2010. A Rising Nation would be most enticing to readers that have some previous
knowledge of history in order to connect the information through history. This book may not
provide new information for a scholar. However, they would be able to appreciate the more
enjoyable format of the book compared to reading other texts. Kenneth C. Davis is a historian
and an author from Mount Vernon, New York City. Davis s book Don t know much about
history was New York Time best seller for thirty seven weeks straight and combined in print total
of some 4.7 million copies. Davis went to Concordia College in Bronxville while he was living
in New York. However, he didn t graduate from Concordia; in fact, he never graduated from
college. In 1998 Davis was awarded with an honorary doctorate from Concordia College in New
York. In his interview summary on Don t Know Much he states that he didn t do too great in
high school, but he did fairly well in college even though he didn t graduate. With knowing Davis
s background, I am confident that Davis is capable of writing a proper information piece even
though he didn t graduate because I doubt Concordia College just hands out doctorate degrees. In
his work of acknowledgements, Davis states leaving the comfort landscape of the Don t Know
Much About series to write about American history in a different style and format was both

Akaashi Alternate Ending
Ummmm..... Keiji? Bokuto says, looking at Akaashi early Monday morning.
What is it? Akaashi answers, fixing his school uniform.
I know that you kind of already wanted to come out to the public that you are an owl person, but
are you okay seeing as you re basically forced to now? Akaashi nods.
Yes, I m fine. With his wing broken, Akaashi couldn t transform back into his human form
properly, so he had no choice but to go to school showing who he really is. In a way, it was
relieving that he was finally coming out, but it was also pretty terrifying seeing as he hadn t planned
anything. If people started asking questions.... well........ then he was screwed.
I love you, Bokuto says randomly. Akaashi smiles.
I love you too, Koutarou, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Either way, you re still gonna get a fucking boner when the one you love does that.
Koutarou, we need to go to school, Akaashi says quietly. Bokuto sighs.
Alright. Come here. Bokuto picks up Akaashi bridal style. I get to carry you to school~ he sings.
Akaashi huffs in slight annoyance, but he lets Bokuto have fun. While he didn t hate that Bokuto
had to carry him, he actually enjoyed it quite a bit, he hated that he needed to depend on someone
else. He had always liked doing things independently, but now he would need to get help for things
on certain occasions. Or, at least, it would take a lot longer to accomplish something; exampled
with getting something out of a tree.
Bokuto carries Akaashi through his house, smiling. He really seemed to enjoy having to take care
of Akaashi.
Exiting his house, Bokuto spreads his wings wide and takes off, heading to school. Though
calmed by the slight breeze and being held by Bokuto, Akaashi s heart was still racing. What
would people say when they saw him? Would they say nothing at all? Would they say everything
he feared? Bokuto must ve sensed Akaashi s rising anxiety because he held Akaashi a bit tighter as

The Discovery Of The Apollo 11 Moon Landing
9/11/15
Jared Barney
Earth Landing
Stanford
Earth Landing
20% of the world are convinced that the Apollo 11 moon landing in July 20, 1969 was faked. For
the past several decades, a small group of NASA watching sleuths has repeatedly tried to pawn off
the incredulous idea that the Apollo Moon program really was an elaborate, $30 billion hoax
filmed in a movie studio. This group believes the United States needed to cement its world
leadership during the Cold War by pretending to pull off what really was a technologically
impossible stunt (Villard, 2004). If actor Orson Welles was able to convince over one million
Americans that martians were invading Earth, there s no doubt the more powerful government
could persuade U.S. citizens and keep the entire moon landing hoax a secret.
Conspiracy theorists pointed out when the first moon landing was shown on live television, viewers
could clearly see the American flag waving and fluttering as Neil Armstrongand Buzz Aldrin
planted it. Photos of the landing also seem to show rippling in a breeze, such as the image above
which clearly shows a fold in the flag. The obvious problem here is that there s no air in the moon
s atmosphere, and therefore no wind to cause the flag to blow (Fox, 2012).
The claim goes as follows: had NASA really landed us on the moon, there would be a blast crater
underneath the lunar module to mark its landing. On any video footage or photograph of the
landings, no crater is visible, almost as

Abortions Should Be Illegal
One hundred fifty thousand abortions happen every day, that s one hundred and five abortions
every minute around the world. A person who has had an abortion will feel many emotions. An
aborted baby could have been adopted by a family. An abortion kills an innocent baby that could
have been adopted by a family. Abortions should be illegal. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com

have had an abortion. This is because after they think they will never be able to get pregnant again.
Even before a woman has an abortion they experience negative feelings. Some women also
experience Post Abortion Stress Syndrome, it causes a woman to get depressed and have anxiety.

The Debate Of The Drinking Age
The drinking age has always been twenty one in the United States, whenever it has been
questioned on why twenty one and not eighteen. The scientific answer has always been because
the eighteen year old brain is not fully developed yet. See what I have a hard time understanding
is why eighteen year olds are considered adults at the age of eighteen, but we can t have a drink.
At eighteen you are allowed to buy cigarettes, join the army, change your name. I just don t
understand why at eighteen you are considered old enough to fight for the country, but you can t
just have a drink. I also do not quite understand why we haven t moved the age of becoming a
legal adult to twenty one. Back in 1984 the government wanted to get a firm grasp on the country
and wanted to knock them into line. So they made a deal with all the states that simply stated.
Either make the minimum drinking age twenty one or lose up to 10% of the federal highway
funding. Now that s some serious cash, so of course all the states went along with it and that is
how the minimum drinking age came into play. The federal government did not just pick the
number twenty one out of a hat. Twenty one came from the early English century. That was the
age you could vote or become a knight back in that day. Since they became an adult then it only
makes sense that they can drink. ( Why Is the Drinking Age 21? ). Which goes back to my first
point, why are eighteen year olds considered adults at eighteen, but cannot drink?

The Care Of Hospice Care
In recent years, Hospice care has risen to popularity and is being widely used among many
terminally ill patients and their families. Hospice care supports patients and their families
emotionally and physically through the dying process. Imagine being told that you have a terminal
disease and that you have a limited amount of time before you die. This stress and hopelessness
can be relieved by a hospicecare team, that would be there for you and your family. With hospice
care, both the patient and caregiver would be provided with support and optimal care. The goal
of this paper is to evaluate caregivers perceptions and experiences concerning the care of a
terminally ill loved one, and to compare the satisfaction of patients and or caregivers with and
without access to hospice care programs.
Introduction The goal of hospice is neither to prolong life nor to hasten the dying process, but
rather, hospice focuses on comfort not curing. It helps to maximize patients quality of life as they
travel along this last journey. Hospice care may offer several advantages over traditional, hospital
based care for people with terminal illnesses. It can be delivered in a patient s home, allowing death
to take place in the their own home, it may also optimize the relief of pain, increase patients and
carers satisfaction, whilst allowing them to die in peace, comfort and dignity.
Caring for a patient that is terminally ill can be a burden on any family. Caregivers are usually

The Environmental Issues Of California Water Crisis
After 4 years of intensive drought, California declared a state of emergency in January 2015 and
California water crisis has been one of the biggest environmental issues in America (US.
Geological Survey, 2015). On April 1, 2015, the governor of California, Jerry Brown, visited
Sierra Nevada to measure the amount of snowpack, which has been done annually, and a
formidable result came out. The measurement of snowpack of Sierra Nevada of this year met
only 5 percent of the April 1 average. According to the record, it is the lowest number since 1950.
So the governor Jerry Brown ordered a 25% cut in urban water use in California(Cava, 2015)
between June 2015 and February 2016(Circle of Blue, 2015). For the first time in the history, the
mandatory water reduction enforced in California, and in order to accomplish the order,
Californians should have better knowledge about the water that we daily consume. The aim of this
paper is to observe the supply, distribution, use, and disposal of the water in California.
Where does the water come from?
California gets water supply from three sources: groundwater, surface water, and rain and
snowfall. Groundwater supplies the most water in California. In the first, according to a report
from California Department of Water Resources, 45 percent of statewide annual water supply for
a normal season is groundwater, and up to 60 percent in dry days (2015). Groundwater is water
underground, but not under the lakes or streams; it is from pores

Who Is Lucy Hominid
Lucy is the nickname given to the world s most famous human ancestor. (National Geographic
News) Lucy was found on November 24, 1974 in Hardar, Ethiopia by paleontologists Tom Gray
and Donald Johanson. While Lucy may not be the earliest human ancestor she is the first
Australopithecus afarensis skeleton found, with her remains being 3.2 million years old.
Lucy s nickname was inspired by the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. While it is
unsure who exactly gave this 3.2 million year old skeleton the nickname Lucy, it stuck and the
skeleton has been referred to as Lucy ever since. Lucy has been identified as a hominid because
she walked upright, which is one of the foremost characteristics of the zoological family Hominidae

review, the prices of products, particularly the detergents segment, were reduced taking into account
the reduction in commodity prices. The segmental margin of this category was lower by 100 bps
(one per cent) linked to the volatility in commodity costs in the initial part of the year and the
actions taken to defend the company s leadership position in the face of heightened competitive

  • 2. Indian Ocean Trade Network Trade was an integral part of survival and income during the common era. Between 600 C.E. and 1450 C.E, the Indian Ocean trade network and the Trans Saharan trade network had Arab traders travel and change the way sea trade developed and became extraordinarily successful. Trade created communication and familiarity between people of different background and where they reside from. Communication of people lead to diversification of culture, creating unions of people starting enormous perceptions of culture. The Trans Saharan trade and the Indian Ocean trade were very similar yet very different. Items that were exchanged through trading were a bit different and the culture was more diverse throughout the Indian Ocean trade than the Trans Saharan... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the fourth century, trade of the Red Sea and some measure of the Arabian Sea was controlled by the kingdom of Axum in Christian Ethiopia. Arab traders gained authority through the progress of merchandise, and Arab armies lead to diminish the power of the Christian Ethiopeans. The main trading link between East Africa and the Indian Ocean was contributed by Arab merchants. Arab sailor began to consider importance in the Indian Ocean trade at the beginning of the seventh century. Arabs from the south were very familiar with sea trade. Arab armies started moving north and came in contact with the Sassanians of Iran. They were the previous masters of the Indian Ocean and the Arab armies learned new skills from them. • 3. Cause And Effect On Air Pollution Diesel trucks, old fire extinguishers and that wood in your fireplace, all have one thing in common; they re hurting our planet and our bodies. Researchers studied for decades now the effect that air pollution has on our bodies and our atmosphere. The emissions from a diesel engine can result in a direct attack against our respiratory systems, this same attack of the atmosphere can come from Chlorofluorocarbons that are emitted from old refrigerants. Due to the fact that air pollution has greatly increased over the last 150 years, understanding the chemistry behind it has not only become a large topic of choice by researchers but has also been governed by officials. Diesel emissions are the greatest output of atmospheric nanoparticles such as cerium oxide and nitrogen oxides which are the cause for more than two thirds of all particulate matter that will emit from U.S. transportation alone.1Since diesel emissions output these semi volatile particles at such a high rate, they have started to create a ground level ozonewhich can irritate the respiratory system and cause cardiovascular illnesses. While diesel fuel is combusting, any excess turns into soot or particulate matter. This is composed of hundreds of elements which include particulates of all sizes, including ultra fine particulates that are small enough to pass through the cells of human lungs. When these particulates get brought into the atmosphere they will vaporize and oxidize which forms a greater mass of secondary organic aerosol. These ultra fine particles are such an increasing danger to humans because they make up 80 90% of all diesel emissions. They are causing tens of thousands of deaths worldwide but particularly in Europe, where there are higher populations in smaller areas.2These deaths are mostly coming from the nitric oxide being emitted by the uncombusted diesel. (See Figure 1.) An estimated 100,000 people will continue to die a year from diesel pollutants if governments don t start to take action. The strange part about nitric oxide is that the same chemicals that come out of diesel emissions are currently being used as a steroid for bodybuilders. The use of this steroid and the additive of nitric oxide in the atmosphere can cause ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Reporting and Disclosure Chapter 5 Reporting and Disclosure Discussion Questions 1. Transparent financial reporting means that timely and accurate disclosures are made on all important matters affecting a company s financial position and performance. It implies openness, communication, and accountability. Transparent financial reporting protects investors because nothing is hidden from them. Investors can better assess the risks of owning securities when information is truthful and complete. Transparent financial reporting also improves market quality. It enhances investor confidence. Open communication creates markets that are fair, orderly, efficient, and free from abuse and misconduct. 2.Four reasons why multinational corporations are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 5.Triple bottom line reporting refers to reporting on a company s economic, social, and environmental performance. It is a form of social responsibility reporting designed to demonstrate good corporate citizenship. So called sustainability reports are an increasingly popular means of triple bottom line reporting. There is substantial variation in social reporting today. More regulation would improve comparability, but it might also stifle reporting innovations. The usefulness of social reporting to outside parties, particularly investors, needs to be demonstrated before implementing more regulation for it. 6. Often we expect to observe less voluntary disclosure by companies in emerging market countries than by those in developed countries: a. Equity markets are relatively less developed in many emerging market countries, resulting in lower total demand for company information by investors and analysts. b. In many emerging market countries, most financing is supplied by banks and insiders such as family groups. This also leads to less demand for timely, credible public disclosure, and in these markets enhanced disclosure may have limited benefits. In general, we expect to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. What I Learned From Taking American Civilization 1700 At the beginning of the semester I wrote an assignment addressing what I wanted to learn from taking American Civilization 1700. I went through the course syllabus and I chose skills that I thought were important for me to know better as well as important to my future career as a teacher. Two skills that I did not list that I wanted to work on were comparing and contrasting. Comparing and contrasting are two skills that I thought I was quite good at and had no problems with. When it came to do the Written Assignment #2 Compare and Contrast Essay, I found out that I was mistaken in my assumption. I struggled and had to obtain help from the professor on what there was to compare and contrast between the two documents the essay was about. After the professor helped and guided me, I was able to learn how to properly compare the similarities and contrast the differences between two different documents. I chose to post my first written assignment as my signature assignment on my personal eportfolio because I am proud of how it turned out and I feel it was the assignment I learned the most from. I didn t just learn to compare and contrast, I learned to interpret old documentation and references, I learned that the same time frame in history, for example, the immigration period that the assignment covered, can have two very different perspectives. The paper I wrote had both strength and weaknesses. The strengths were, I did a good job at finding thing to compare and contrast, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Goodbye to All That Analytical Essay A Fair City I could speak of Joan Didion s use of rhetorical devices. I could describe every subtle simile she imposes and preach of her incredible use of personification, but I think the most important piece of the essay would, then, be neglected. In Goodbye to All That, Didion compares her experiences in New York to the occurrences at a fair. This metaphor is discussed in a very roundabout way. Ultimately, though, Didion (like anybody) grew tired and dissatisfied with the fair (in her case NYC). Fairs lure people in through the gates with bright lights, loud buzzers, and exhilarating games. These same tactics help to attract tourists to New York City. Like a kid at a fair, Didion becomes enticed by such distractions and cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She admits, Even that late in the game I still liked going to parties, all parties, bad parties (p.687). The connection to the fair in this case stems from a child s ability to be so keyed up and eager to play as many games as they can, that they will even play games they do not like. Bad games (Intentional fragment). This view and interest of the city, this time at the fair, ends. The ending is not a definite point in time, but instead a gradual distaste for the details. Like the same child at the same fair, at the same time, every year, Didion outgrows the city and is no longer intrigued. She states, I stopped believing in new faces (p.687) and realizes, It is distinctively possible to stay too long at the Fair (p.687). She cannot stand the identical conversations at Grand Central, the stuck up women on Madison Ave., Times Square, or the New York Public Library. Eventually, Didion avoids these places. Like a boy who has outgrown the annual fair, she promises to return after a six month leave of absence. Three years after Didion made that promise, she finds herself returning to the fair. Back in New York, she realizes her acquaintances are no more and her friends had moved. She states, We stayed for ten days, and then we took the afternoon flight back to Los Angeles (p.688). Boys, a couple years removed from the correct age for attending the fair, promise to return. Sometimes they do return and sometimes they do not. Like Didion did, they ... • 8. Portraiture Depictions Of Queen Elizabeth I Portraiture Depictions of Queen Elizabeth I Elizabeth Tudor or Queen Elizabeth I was and is one of the greatest monarchs in English history. Obtaining the crown at a young age of twenty five, she seized a bankrupt country caused by previous rulers, a country with an unstable religion, and loose ties with other great powers of the world. Elizabeth I ruled for nearly half a century granting her the remembrance with reigning with stability, the flourishment of the arts, and increased trade. Elizabeth s sense of duty to her people was very admirable and that is one the reasons that makes her such a great monarch. She was committed to her people and never swayed from doing such that. In saying that, one of the ways people showed their love and to show her greatness it was represented in portraits. Portraiture of Queen Elizabeth I illustrates an evolution of her reign over England and Ireland in the years of 1558 1603. Early portraits of young Elizabeth showcase what is going on her life or what is important to her at that specific time. Objects such as prayer books and status clothing would be displayed in the earlier portraits. Later portraits of Elizabeth also showcase her life and the importance of virginity, purity, crowns, and other effects. Representations of simplicity to later complex imagery are used to exhibit her power as well as allusions or stories to convey the Elizabeth. • 9. Impact Of Globalization On The Economy Globalisation and the economy are two interchangeable ideas with one another. Globalisation is not a single concept since it encompasses multiple components such as economic integration; the transfer of policies across borders; the transmission of knowledge and cultural stability it is a global process (Al Rodhan Stoudmann, 2006). The best representation of globalisation is the process in which businesses create international influence where they can then begin to operate on a global scale (Al Rodhan Stoudmann, 2006). A country that succeeds in globalisation is one that will become an economic force in the world. Third world countries like Cubahave some of the worst economies in the world because of poor globalisation that is a result... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the case of Cuba and the United States globalisation refers to the increased economic integration between these two countries. Nonetheless, with little doubt among economists it can be shown that used effectively globalisation has produced significant gains at the global level. However, there is a threat that globalisation can intensify the gap between rich and poor between a country and across nations. Globalisations linked to politics as it is a part of a government process since the government can shape or limit the possibilities for private entrepreneurship (Dreher, Gaston Martens, 2010). Politics is also influenced by the globalisation of a country because of the international relations between countries. Third world countries are seen as obsolete and constricted because they are considered ineffective by having too many transnational connections and not having the ability to grow and gain international connections (Haynes). Third world countries like Cuba who are seen as economically weak will have a harder time being incorporated into the global world and therefore politically, the country will not excel as much as it could. A country is affected economically by globalisation as the flow of goods and services and factors of production have both direct and indirect effects on a nation state (Dreher, Gaston Martens, 2010). Globalisation has the ability to be very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Corresponding Themes in Frankenstein and Blade Runner Ridley Scott s film Blade Runner reflects some of the key themes seen in Mary Shelley s classic novel Frankenstein. For one, both the sources touch on the necessity of creators taking responsibility for their creations. Another key theme established in both works is the idea that emotional complexity and knowledge, over memory and appearance, allow people to be defined as human beings. Throughout the novel Frankenstein, author Mary Shelley builds upon the theme that one must take responsibility for the actions and well being of their creations. Protagonist Victor Frankenstein consistently toils with the degree of responsibility he owes to the monster he created. Initially, Frankenstein completely abandons his creation, as the creature notes when he says, Yet you, my creator, detest and spurn me, thy creature... (Shelley 83). When the monster pleads for a female counterpart, Victor says, I refused, and I did right in refusing, to create a companion... He showed unparalleled malignity and selfishness in evil; he destroyed my friends... (Shelley 200). Victor fails to sympathize with his creation and fails to understand that all creatures desire something from their creator. A parallel theme of the disasters that occur when a creator doesn t take responsibility for its creations can be found in the 1982 film Blade Runner. In this film, Eldon Tyrell, the creator of the rogue Replicants, takes absolutely no responsibility for the danger he has created when he relegates the job of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dogma Essay One peril from bringing a wide ranging scope into this argument, is the need to then reassert how this would assert itself, with comparisons from which we ve analyzed, and understood the sublime better. The where and when would at least improve, by habits exhibited today. Reserving it and beauty as synonymous terms might have once been serviceable, but after what Burke and Shaw went about to put in place, this acceptance of the darker, more drastic sides of our world is almost, itself, compelled to this new era. The time and place is still the Romantic Age s height, and mostly unfolds at the locale of the Swiss Alps, which was then regarded as another otherwise untenable bit of natural space, which, to mount it, seemed as foregone the possibility as any. Nature is seen as both the blessing and a curse in its chosen effects that re reaped on others, and like the titular doctor and his terrible creation take to flight in these landscapes to discover their answers, or maybe some solace, there s a reminder of the consequences from perverting nature. Even as Victor had solely sought to emulate its more dizzying preoccupations by his own expedients, the fruits of his labor are, indeed, rather frightening to observe. This is especially true for Madame Ranevsky, Lopakhin, and Firs from The Cherry Orchard, by Anton Chekhov. The Cherry Orchard is a comedic play about a widow, Madame Ranevsky, who is in the process of losing her beloved cherry orchard due to the debt that she has collected following the emancipation of the serfs in 1861. Madame Ranevsky, Lopakhin, and Firs all have different memories of the past. In other words, the good memories memories of her pure and happy childhood (12) is what is keeps Madame Ranevsky from accepting Lophakin s plan. She feels that her memories would be ruined if the orchard is destroyed. In fact, Madame Ranevsky acknowledges this attachment to orchard due to the good memories. She tells Lopakhin: Oh! If only I could free my neck and shoulders from the stone that weighs them down! If only I could forget my past! (12). Madame Ranevsky makes the point that her feelings regarding the past is weighing her down and preventing her from accepting Lophakin s plan, so her debts can be relieved. The past that Madame Ranevsky is referring to is her happy childhood memories at the orchard. Hence, Madame Ranevsky s happy childhood memories attach her to the orchard and makes her not want to lose it. Because of this conundrum, Madame Ranevsky essentially does not think about anything else throughout the play b besides whether or not the orchard is going to be sold. • 17. Controversies On Native American Names Dajana Nalvarte Sociology November 10, 2014 Controversies on Native American Names For many years several schools, sports, companies, things, and mascots have their names named after Native Americans. The Native Americans have been fighting to take their names back after so many years. They feel that it is an offensive expression to use their names on things and want the names to be changed to something else. Then you have the opposing side that say the name is a form of positive respect towards the Native Americans. This becomes a controversy amongst both sides because both have different opinions on what the names stand for. Throughout the United States about 4,600 schools use Native Americans names for their teams and mascot (99; pt.3). These schools use logos of people, animals, and cartoon characters of the Native American to represent their teams (99; pt. 3). For example, Huntley High School in Huntley, III has used a Native American name for their sports team, and mascot for about 70 year (99; pt. 3). Not only is the school recognized for being the Redskins, but they have been using the name Redskins respectfully for all these years (99; pt.3). Even though the school is proud of the name and use it as a positive symbol others say they are degrading and offended the Native Americans (99; pt. 3). That still rings true today as leaders look back on their journeys, and the substantial price that it took in reaching their vision. I claim Paul Bear Bryant was indeed a visionary leader and an ethical leader as he continuously rallied countless men around a common goal of excellence and effectively guided them to achieve that very goal not only on the football field but in life. He was able to do so by having a strong understanding of diversity and the impact it had in the building of his coaches and players, as well as what it took to advance those individuals toward the vision by way of transformational leadershipand effective use of Inspirational Motivation. Bryant often led by example, and some of these examples were displayed in the way he chose to stay true to principles and avoid ethical traps in his disciplining of star quarterback, Joe Namath. He further displayed his ethical style in leading his team through racial integration in the early 1970 s by having the open mindedness and intellectual courage it took to make that unpopular decision. In 2005 Spinney and Millward (2010) did a study determining that despite the benefits of leisure those living in financial poverty are not participated in active programs as they are costly, despite having the desire to. Physical inactivity can have serious physical consequences, it can lead to obesity, heart disease, diabetes, different types of cancer, and osteoporosis (Weiss, Platt, Paradis, 2007). When families and individuals who are LI do not have equal access to recreation and leisure programs, it makes sense then that their risk for these consequences can increase. Aside from unequal access to leisure it has also been determined that people who are LI often do not use resources that may be provided to them, either due to not knowing they exist, or issues with transportation, view of poor health, or lack of motivation (Weiss et al, 2007). The story of the citizenship clause in the United States is the story of the Civil War. In Dred Scott vs. Sandford, the Supreme Court decision that arguably concluded a war inevitable, the justices found that black people even those born in the United Stateswere not considered citizens. Black people were considered an inferior class of people, who had been overpowered by the dominant race and had no rights but such as those who held the power and the Government might choose to grant them. This clause represented Congress s reversal of a portion of the Dred Scott vs. Sandford decision which had declared that African Americans could not become citizens of the United States. After the Civil War, Congress overruled Dred Scott and passed the 14th Amendment granting birthright citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof , before this every state decided the citizenship of a person. The United States and Canada are the only nations that allow birthright citizenship, no matter the legal status of the parents giving them full United States citizenship. Others, however, would make the argument that Nation did what she thought was best to get her point across to others. After my research, I would agree that Nation did exactly what she thought was best. She thought that by smashing these bars to pieces, people would take notice, which is precisely what happened. As bystanders would see her smashing and crashing into these bars, they would second guess their choices on going to or supporting them. Also, Nation s powerful public speeches had tremendous effects on listeners as well. Nation risked her life and freedom to fight for what she believed in. Even after being beaten severely and jailed multiple times, Nation would not back down. She was the definition of persistent right up until the day that she died. She was not afraid of conflict and was surely not afraid of fighting for what she believed in. Overall, Carry Amelia Nation was one of America s first strong female leaders and had an impact on many states. These methods include trade credit, bank credit, financing through commercial paper, foreign borrowing, and the use of collateral, accounts receivable financing, inventory financing and hedging to reduce borrowing risk. Trade credit is the practice of purchasing goods now and paying for them later. Trade credit is widely used and is the least expensive and most convenient form of short term financing (McHugh, McHugh Nickels, 1999, p. 573). • 44. Women And The Role Of Women In The 1920 s Women of The 1920s During the first World War I women were left at home to try and figure out how they were going to care for their families. Their husband, father, and brothers were sent off to war. Many companies around the United States were left with production needs and little to no employees to do the job. In a time period, where women are expected to be confident and independent, they had to also realize they had little to no power in society. They had societal rules that they must stay at home to cook, clean, and care for the children. With the men who were prominent in their lives coming and going from war. These factors caused the birth of a new era. This is the era where women were emerging. Women were changing by being more independent sexually and expressing their emotions through music, poetry, and movies. One important theme of the women of the 1920 s that connects various aspects of the women is their sexuality. The women before those who became empowered in the 1920 s would never open up about their sexuality. The women prior to the 1920 s had an image of modesty and were viewed to be married to only one man. In 1920, the women began to express their sexual desires freely. The Discovery Of The Apollo 11 Moon Landing 9/11/15 Jared Barney Earth Landing Stanford Earth Landing 20% of the world are convinced that the Apollo 11 moon landing in July 20, 1969 was faked. For the past several decades, a small group of NASA watching sleuths has repeatedly tried to pawn off the incredulous idea that the Apollo Moon program really was an elaborate, $30 billion hoax filmed in a movie studio. This group believes the United States needed to cement its world leadership during the Cold War by pretending to pull off what really was a technologically impossible stunt (Villard, 2004). If actor Orson Welles was able to convince over one million Americans that martians were invading Earth, there s no doubt the more powerful government could persuade U.S. citizens and keep the entire moon landing hoax a secret. Conspiracy theorists pointed out when the first moon landing was shown on live television, viewers could clearly see the American flag waving and fluttering as Neil Armstrongand Buzz Aldrin planted it. Photos of the landing also seem to show rippling in a breeze, such as the image above which clearly shows a fold in the flag. The obvious problem here is that there s no air in the moon s atmosphere, and therefore no wind to cause the flag to blow (Fox, 2012). • 50. The Debate Of The Drinking Age The drinking age has always been twenty one in the United States, whenever it has been questioned on why twenty one and not eighteen. The scientific answer has always been because the eighteen year old brain is not fully developed yet. See what I have a hard time understanding is why eighteen year olds are considered adults at the age of eighteen, but we can t have a drink. At eighteen you are allowed to buy cigarettes, join the army, change your name. I just don t understand why at eighteen you are considered old enough to fight for the country, but you can t just have a drink. I also do not quite understand why we haven t moved the age of becoming a legal adult to twenty one. Back in 1984 the government wanted to get a firm grasp on the country and wanted to knock them into line. So they made a deal with all the states that simply stated. Either make the minimum drinking age twenty one or lose up to 10% of the federal highway funding. Now that s some serious cash, so of course all the states went along with it and that is how the minimum drinking age came into play. The federal government did not just pick the number twenty one out of a hat. Twenty one came from the early English century. That was the age you could vote or become a knight back in that day. Since they became an adult then it only makes sense that they can drink. ( Why Is the Drinking Age 21? ).
