How Running Changed My Life
If I was asked the question right now, of what one thing I am passionate about, for simplicity, I
would have an answer, Running . However, in reality, I have no one answer as to what it is that I
am impassioned by. As I have matured, I have learned all the different things that make me happy,
and make my life seem fuller. There are so many different things that I care deeply for. Being a
runner is not the only thingthat defines me, or brings me joy. At times, it can often be
overwhelming how many different interests I have found that I possess, and it is difficult to make
all of them a part of my life.
I cannot remember a day when I was not ardent about something. Growing up in the small town of
Sandwich, Massachusetts, my family lived in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have shown me how many different ways it is possible to find happiness. They have
started to mold me into the person that I am hoping to become. From my early age, ballet taught
me how to handle nerves, and how success can come from hard work. Losing the sport also
taught me something. I learned that good things are always on their way. Even though pictures
my old friends share from Nutcracker every year make me feel a little sad, I don t know where
my life would be without running. I know that I have found what I am meant to do at this time,
and that I wouldn t have found running if I had not stopped dancing. Gardening and taking care
of the planet brought me my love of the outdoors. Art and fashion have also given me many more
opportunities, and allowed for me to express my ideas and feelings in a creative way. With every

Essay on Millau Viaduct Project Management
The Millau Viaduct is a cable stayed road bridge which spans the valley of the river Tarn situated
alongside the Township of Millau in Southern France. The viaduct standing over 343 meters tall
was the world s tallest cable stayed bridge and was proposed as the missing link in the A75 auto
route that connects Paris in the north to Perpignan in the south. The Millau Viaductwas the product
of 17 years of ideas, proposals, planning and designs that resulted in shaving 40 miles off the
former route through the region, a boom in local economic development and the completion of the
one of the world s most well managed and constructed projects.

These teams where given five proposals for the viaduct with five defined project objectives that
were to be followed in each proposal. Refer to Appendix Figure (4) for images of proposed projects.
This approach was designed to gain further evaluation on already proposed designs, instead of
receiving freshly proposed designs. The proposals were submitted and critiqued by an independent
committee setup within SETRA.
Selection of design:
In July of 1996 the party in charge of executing the work composed of Government
representatives, Local officials, Engineers and Director of Roads selected the multiple cable stayed
viaduct as the most appropriate solution based on the project scope. The viaduct had the lowest
cost across all proposals and also shortest build time. The architectural design was of the highest
quality and in keeping with the local aesthetics. An architect s impression is outlined in Appendix
Figure (5).
Technical research was continued by SETRA with main project scope directed at: * Geology *
Foundations * Design of pier and deck * Maintenance, operation * User s behaviour * Building

Hearing Again: A Life Changing Aussie Discovery
Feeling constant mumbling words hard to understand, asking people to repeat conversation again
and again, and turning the television to a level that others would complain to be too loud, are the
many symptoms of hearing loss my grandfather suffered and never noticed. It was until 2003,
when we brought him to visit an audiologist, being officially told that he had permanent
sensorineural hearing loss, due to his natural aging process. This meant not being able to clearly
understand people speaking including me, his grandchild. This meant not being able to go to his
everyday work as a policeman. This meant not being able to even hear the sounds of nature; the

The Role Of Contemporary Education On A Sustainable Global...
Introduction (519 words)
The 21st century has marked the importance of bringing up urgent, but complex problems
involving significant threats to all humanity, such as global warming, pollution, and ozone
depletion. Never before had it been so critical to analyse the environmental degradation and to join
all the nations forces in order to build a sustainable global society which is meant to be based on
respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace (The Earth
Charter Commission, 1992, p. 1).
The planet needs us to be culturally responsive (Greenwood, 2014, p. 279) citizens of the world,
so that in the age of substantial anthropogenic ecological impacts (Greenwood, 2014, p. 282) our
teaching and pedagogical goals correspond to the understanding of an ecological perspective on the
very well being of the planet in the future. Therefore, the role of contemporary education is to
transform the past observations and insufficient teaching methods to be flexible and broadly
inclusive underpinned by the concept of Education for Sustainability (EfS).
However, at first, we have to understand our own society and the era we have been living in for
almost two decades. In the year 2000, a new geological term for the modern civilisation emerged in
the academic literature: the Anthropocene. The author of the term, the Nobel Prize winning
atmospheric chemist Paul Crutzen, defines the Anthropocene as a new phase in the history of both
humankind and

The Pros And Cons Of Gambling Addiction
Gambling is an entertainment that is very addicting to the average person. According to the article
losing it all; approximately 3 million to 4 million Americans have a gambling disorder. I don t think
casinos should be responsible for someone addiction. Therefore, the responsibility is up to the
individual to control their gambling addictionhabits. Just like any other drug addictions; one must
seek help and have self control.
Casinos use at least two known internal tactics to target attractive customers. The first method they
use is loyalty rewards cards . They use this as an incentive to keep the customer to keep spending
and track how frequently they are at the casino and how much they spend each time they are there.
The second method to attract customers is miniature cameras at the machine to track the customer
playing style and behavior . Before these two methods were incorporated; casinos use to buying
the mailing list of credit card companies to target attractive customers. I can t blame the casinos for
wanting to make money, but I can blame the casinos for doing it in an unethical way. I don t agree
with their approach on how they prey on impulsive gamblers.
Some casinos call their biggest losers whales these customers become the casinos most sought after
repeated customers for casinos. I do not think it is fair for casinos to target the addicted, but at the
same time, casinos are in business to make money. In addition, the customer has to make a sound

The New York Stock Market
Mentioned the words stock market to anyone in the United States and you are likely to get a
vast array of comments, from excitement over making lots of money, to anger of losing lots of
money. Everyone seems to have an opinion about the stock market, yet only about 50 percent of
Americans are invested in the stock market. A troubling aspect is that few individuals actually
understand how the stock market works. These individuals are taking a risk by investing in
stocks that they do not truly understand. An individual choosing to invest on their own, without
the advice of a financial professional, is like a person self diagnosing a major illness; the results
could be devastating and irreversible. To achieve financial success through investing in the stock
market it is imperative that an individual work with a financial professional who will help them
properly state their goals and objectives, design a properly allocated portfolio, determine their risk
tolerance, and guide them in the ongoing investing process. The New York Stock Exchange has
been a part of the United States financial landscape almost as long as the country has existed. Less
than twenty years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the forefathers of
the American dream started what would become the most dominate stock exchange in the world.
The history of the New York Stock Exchange begins with the signing of the Buttonwood Agreement

Millard Fuller Research Paper
One thing that people can say is that everyone desires to have a place to sleep, eat and live.
Many people like the idea of having a place they can call home. One organization, Habitat for
Humanities, has made ownership a possibility for anyone who desires to have it. For years
people have been searching for a less expensive way to begin their journey out of their
predicament of not having their own place to lay their head. Nothing can ever come without
hard work though; to become a candidate for owning a home, people have to go through
numerous classes and engage sweat equity . This organization has changed the lives of over a
million families in over 1,400 bases internationally. Where this great organization came from is
the real question. The answer, an idea; before the idea came a feeling or motion that one person
felt they should act on. Millard Fuller, the man who felt there were too many homeless people in

Maths Tutoring Math Research Paper
I write my personal philosophy from the perspective of a maths tutor, as I am yet to engage as a
maths teacher. Ideally, I would love to impart on my students the same love of mathematics as I
have. However, the world is rarely an ideal place.
My ethos in tutoring maths is to remove any fear the student may have in regard to mathematics
and then encourage the student to develop confidence in his or her own mathematical abilities. This
initial object without question is often extremely challenging. However, watching as a student
grows in confidence is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a maths tutor. Furthermore, the
development of mathematical confidence is catalyst for both better understanding and
achievements in the subject.
My focus with senior mathematics is giving the students strong foundations on which they can
build, in everyday life or further studies. Undoubtedly, relaxed and confident students are more
receptive to the, often challenging, content of senior mathematics. Students are strongly encouraged
to be curious and ask as many questions as they need to gain understanding. In addition, they need
to develop a good work ethics and positive approach to their studies. ... Show more content on

The Judicial Evolution Of Appointment Of Commissions
The system would lead to grave injustice particularly in case where the parties to the litigation
are not balanced in economic strength. The litigants belonging to un privileged segment of the
society are bound to be at a disadvantage as against an economically strong opponent under the
adversarial system because difficulty in securing a competent legal representation also due to
inability to produce relevant pieces of evidence before the courts. Hence, when approached the
courts for enforcement of their FRs, it became necessary to lay down new procedure, to make
this possible by the courts. New tools were forged for making the FRs meaningful to the large
segments of people . So in cases where poor litigants or citizens bona fide approached the courts,
they could not expect the formers to produce relevant material before them in support of their
case. The adoption of a passive approach and declining to intervene would render FRs a teasing
illusion for such litigants. The appropriate answer was the judicial evolution of appointment of
commissions for gathering facts and data with respect to a complaint of a violation of a FR made
on behalf of weaker segments. Consequent reports of commissioners appointed will furnish prima
facie evidence the relevant facts and information gathered by the commissioners and that is the case
why such commissioners would have to be responsible individuals; who enjoys the confidence of
the court for making an inquiry into the facts of the case

An Experimental Study on Hydrothermal Treatment of Sweet...
Hydrothermal treatment can be used for the on farm processing of lignocellulosic materials. This
study investigated the hydrothermal treatment of sweet sorghum bagasse (SSB) powder for the
extraction of hemicellulose from it. Changes in chemical composition of SSB and the formation
of sugars and hydrolytic products were studied. The optimum conditions of 12.54% (g/g) substrate
concentration and 90 minutes of isothermal treatment residence time at 394 K were conducive to
the extraction of 72.61 72.77% hemicellulose and producing a hydrolysate containing 56.06
63.54 g/L reducing sugars and 5.52 6.80 g/L furfurals. The treated SSB residue contained about
56.30 56.42 % (g/g) cellulose and 31.40 31.43 % (g/g) lignin in it. The substrate concentration and
isothermal treatment residence time were significant in the responses observed. The global
economy is showing positive signs of supplementing prevalent fossil resources with bioresources
for energy and materials. This transition is accompanied by the development of different
biorefinery technologies for large and small scale operations. The small scale biorefinery operation
is contrary to the existing large scale petroleum refineries where the distributed processing of raw
material is unheard off and impractical. The well designed and smartly integrated small scale
biorefinery operation will be economically, environmentally and socially beneficial (Bruins and

Movie Theater And Choosing A Seat
1.When walking into a movie theater and choosing a seat, the appropriate interval all depends on
how full the theater is. When a person pays for a movie ticket, they understand the possibility of
not receiving the ideal seating. Most movie theaters operate on a first come first served basis. In
my estimation, the appropriate spacing between people at a movie theateris one seat. I don t have a
problem sitting next to a stranger in a movie theater with one seat separating us. I understand
sometimes sitting next to a stranger in inevitable, I have had to do it many times. Movie theaters

Most people are not going to be able to experience wizard magic, space, or getting stuck on a

Another positive is that movies teach diversity. These popular commercial films are full of
different ideas, people, and elements. When people watch diverse movies, it allows them to
become more open and accepting in our everyday lives.
A negative aspect is the violence that is included in these movies. Children and teens have seen
these movies and get the ideas in their heads that it is okay to emulate these actions. Young
minds are malleable, which could lead to different problems in the future of these young people.
Another negative aspect of these movies is that they distract from life. This could also be a good
thing because people need breaks sometimes, but we can t be distracted all of the time. If we had
a choice between working and entering a world unlike our own through movies, most people would
probably choose to be somewhere else mentally.

Time Is An Illusion Essay
Time. Is it an illusion? Or is it real? These two questions have been debated many times by
philosophers all around the world but they have yet to give a certain answer. Everyday, we use the
concept of time to measure how long an event is, to tell someone when to do what and to place
your events of the day in order. We are constantly using the perception of timein our sentences, but
is time actually real? I personally think that time is an illusion. I believe this because time is
simply something that gives order to our events, we do not progress in time and that time is simply
an illusion created by us.
Time is something that reminds us when there is an event that we must attend to. If you look at a
clock, all you see is a bunch of numbers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Saint Augustine stated that there are three times; a present time about things past, a present time
about things present, a present time about things future. The future exists only as expectations, the
past exists only as memory, but expectation and memory exist in the present. This means that you
cannot relive the past because you are always in the present time. Even if you are remembering a
memory from the past or waiting for something in the future, you are still in the present. Marina
Abramovic quotes: Time is an illusion. Time only exists when we think about the past and the
future. Time doesn t exist in the present here and now. This means that we only think that there is
time since there is a past and future. As time flows, the present is always updating itself every
millisecond. As you read this sentence, you might think that you are in the present but the moment
is no longer happening. After you read the sentence, that time you read it becomes the past. If you
backtrack to the memory of you reading the sentence, you are still in the present even though you
are thinking of the past. If you look at the clock, in one minute the you that you are now will be in
the past. The future you will become the present you and then almost instantly become the past you.
Therefore we are always in the present and it is the mind that can be in the present or the

Fear Causes The Destruction Of Civilization In Lord Of The...
How Fear Causes the Destruction of Civilization Fear is unique, and can manifest itself in many
different ways, like nightmares, or uncertainty before doing an activity that is risky. For many,
when the word fear is said to them, they think of their worst fears, such as clowns, ghosts, heights,
and what not. Yet, on an island on which a plane full of boys crash lands, some uncommon fears
lead to total destruction of civilization. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, it it
evident that fearcan and will eventually tear down the walls of civilization. It all starts when a
plane crash lands into the trees of a lost island. The survivors soon meet up one by one along the
shore of the island, and it is noteworthy that they are all boys, from the age range of six to twelve
years. At once each boy develops their own characteristics with Ralph as their leader, Piggy
being the brainiac, Jack the hunter, and many other littluns and bigguns . However, all is not
well for too long, as their stay on the island continues, the boys become more savage like, due to
their fears. The different terrors these boys encounter lead to despicable actions, including two
brutal murders. William Golding shows that fear, of all kinds, can lead to the destruction of
civilization. Rules are a fundamental part of society because they provide physical and
emotional safety, the fear of them will undeniably destruct civilization. In the beginning, an
almost unanimous vote decides that Ralph shall be the chief, and with that role he has some
implicit rules for everyone. These few rules include the use of the conch in order to speak,
bathroom use in specific areas, a bright fire at all times, and the construction of shelters. Jack
and the choir boys disregard his few rules one by one, and begin to turn away from Ralph. Since
these rules are the key factors to not only survival but rescue as well, Ralph fears and reminds the
boys about them. Eventually, after being in disagreement about what the most important measures
are for survival, a rebellion stirs among Jack and the hunters with Ralph. This was not only a
breakaway from law and order, but also a breakdown of civilization on the island. At one point

Compare And Contrast Hrothgar And Beowulf
The epic poem Beowulf translated by Seamus Heaney, presents two heroic kings that have very
clear differences on how they overcome challenges but they still keep their people in safe
keepings. Hrothgar and Beowulf are admired by their people because they both show strong
characteristics of what an Anglo Saxon king should do or be.
The king of Danes, Hrothgar, was first introduced as an accomplished and wise king. He comes to
be well known as a young king when he protected Beowulf s now departed father, Ecgtheow.
Hrothgar wergild peace with Ecgtheow s enemies so that the bloody feud would end. With
Hrothgar doing this generous deed to help Ecgtheow and his kingdom out Beowulf devotes his
assistance in the beginning of the poem. One thing that makes Hrothgar a good king is that he
always seems to stay true to his word, as is told at the beginning, the king kept well his pledge
and promise to deal out gifts, rings at the banquet (53 55). It was clear that Hrothgar was an
exceptional military leader with his bravery and strength but he is aged now and cannot fight
the same as he used to. The Danes are then faced with an evil and wicked monster, Grendel, who
terrorizes his realm. Beowulf asks Hrothgar if he could fight this battle for him to pay back his
family debt and Hrothgar agreed. Hrothgar makes a promise to reward Beowulf if he succeeds in
killing the monster Grendel. He says, For his gallant courage I ll load him with gifts.... shall know

France Bans the Muslim Burqa and Veil Essays
Within the Middle East, the largest population of the men and women are Muslim. The Muslim
religion suggests that women wear a veil or hijab, which is a head scarf that only exposes a
woman s eyes, accompanied by a burqa which is a full body cloak. The sole purpose of the
clothing is to cover a woman s feminine features from men s eyes. The Qur an, an Islamic
scripture, supports and slightly obligates the uniform by saying that women are to be conservative,
let them wear their head covering over their bosoms, and not display their ornaments. (Qur an). It
could be inferred that women wear the burqa and veil willingly because of their geographical
location. However, when Muslim women are withdrawn from the Middle East, and are placed...

France drew international attention, questions, and opinions on the justification of this new law.
Even though France s main response to their justification of the ban is to preserve the French
culture, the law also positively addresses other problems such as: religious freedom, public
safety, and women s rights. When I was introduced to the topic of France s ban on the veil, I
disagreed with the law. I took a position based on my customs as an American citizen, which
differs completely from those of France. International critics began to argue that France is violating
what people call Freedom of Religion, which I agreed with at first. As a foreigner from America, I
am accustomed to the American government s definition of freedom of religion. Protected by the
First Amendment, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise. (Religious Freedom). You can express your religion in public, during
church, mass, or religious meetings. So the presence of religious items such as the burqa s and veil
do not disturb the people or government. However, until I put myself in the other person s (France
s) shoes, I hadn t realized that customs differ from one country to another, so I began to look at the
accusations through France s eyes. I too, then viewed the ban as a positive movement by France,
influenced by a government s determination to govern their citizens under laws, which they found
suitable. Although they

Tommy Douglas Should Be Proud Of Canada
Canada has a history of wars and famous people that its citizens can be proud of. In the past one
hundred years there have been events or people that have really made an impact on history. For
example D Day, on the first day Canada made more progress up the beach than any other country, it
was a massive victory! A person that Canadacan be proud of is Frederick Banting. He created

Canada is a country that its citizens can be proud of.
Canada has had a lot of famous people that have impacted the world and Canada greatly, one of
them is Tommy Douglas. Tommy Douglas was a big part of Canadian history. For one, he was a
big part of things like government run auto insurance, minimum wage, paid vacations and a forty

the first project may have a lower IRR (expected return), but a higher NPV (increase in
shareholders wealth) and should thus be accepted over the second project. A method called
marginal IRR can be used to adapt the IRR methodology to this case. п‚— Another problem with
the IRR method is that it may give different rates of return. Suppose there are two discount rates
(two IRRs) that make the present value equal to the initial investment. In this case, which rate
should be used for comparison with the cutoff rate? The purpose of this question is not to resolve
the cases where there are different IRRs. п‚— Under IRR it is assumed that all the intermediate

Gender, Race, And Cultural Generation
Introduction In our society today, the older population is a diverse and growing group with more
and more individuals reaching the life stage of late adulthood, and even very late adulthood.
According to Hutchison (2015), the late adulthood stage begins at 65 years of age and continues
through 85 years of age and the very late adulthood stage begins at 85 and carries through until
death. During the aging process, many changes occur within the body and mind as well as family
structure and social roles. Individuals who have reached these life stages today may have lived
through the Great Depression, the World Wars, the Civil Rights Movement, and many other
important historic events, all of which have shaped their life experiences. For... Show more content

Physical Contact in the Arab World vs. the West

GSEM 200
Introduction: Physical contact is a form of communication that requires no verbal communication
or writing in order to be understood although it may differ from one country and culture to another.
Body language is considered to be a silent form of communications that succeeds to deliver an idea
or a message. Most of the time, hand gestures and physical contact are known to be more effective
than words. The most important thing in communication is hearing what is not said. (Peter
Durocher, 1967, p2). Such as, a wide smile on a child s face can say more than a thousand words
could ever say. Thus, there are many forms of nonverbal communications that touch the deep sense
of humanity. Physical interaction is one of the most essential factors of human communication.
Generally, it is considered as a strong form of communication. The human body is the best picture
of the human soul , Ludwig Wittgenstein. Physical contact can help an individual gain another
person s trust over a short period of time. However, it is still a complex topic because it differs
from one culture to another. Each culture has its own traditions and ideologies. Furthermore, in
some culture, certain forms of physical contact are considered forbidden, offensive or taboo. This

Social Media And Social Mess Essay
Social Media or Social Mess According to Pew Research, 95% of teens are Internet users with an
astonishing 85% using Social Media. Social Media is defined as websites and applications that
enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. Social media is a
huge platform for cultural revolutions and controversies. There is a large amount of potential
issues with this revolution including the possibility of cyberbullying as well as the depression
that can be developed by only seeing the best part of everyone s daily life. This creates a false
image that everyone has a perfect life that users believe is impossible to attain. They, in turn,
view their life as dull or not as exciting as others simply because they cannot go on their summer
break to swim with dolphins or skydive, because they are not committing to a college on a full
ride for Football, because they don t have that seemingly perfect relationship with their parents
or siblings. On the other side of the spectrum, Social Media can be used for many great causes
such as activism, it can be used to stay in touch with old friends, and it can be used to encourage
others or bring to light issues that no one would have heard about it they were not Facebook
friends with Joe Schmo. Social Media is a trade off that western culture, and increasingly the
world, must learn to deal with or restrict. Social Media is dangerous to dictators, it is helpful to

Presently, many companies are seemingly willing to practice corporate political activism. Uber
Technologies Former CEO Travis Kalanick had been very vocal about his political positions.
Unfortunately, the support faced harsh criticism from Uber s customer base over the support of

Donald Trumps business advisory council as a way for their company to have a relationship with

transportation in cities better, creating job opportunities, making it easier to get around, getting
pollution out of the air and traffic off the streets (Fiegerman, 2017). Many did not respect the
decision to ignore the taxi strike as customers believed that Uber should have shown their support.
Kalanick s decision to cross picket lines caused customers to protest by chaining themselves to the
main entrance of their office building. The internal and external pressures resulting from Kalanick s
decisions led to his resignation from the business advisory council, explaining that, joining the

Symbols In John Irving s A Prayer For Owen Meany
There are numerous symbols that John Irving incorporated into A Prayer for Owen Meany. While
some symbols only appear in the novel once, other symbols happen to recur throughout the novel.
Such recurring symbols are the several manifestations of armless figures, which are Tabby s
dressmaker s dummy, the armadillo, and the statue of Mary Magdalene. The most significant
manifestation of the armless figures is Tabby s dressmaker s dummy since its symbolism of Tabby
primarily contributes to the reader s understanding of Owen s belief that he was Gods instrument, as
well as the overall theme of predestination. Tabby s dressmaker s dummy was first introduced in

According to John, the dressmaker s dummy was an exact replica of Tabby s body, therefore it
can be assumed that it symbolizes Tabby herself. Tabby is significant to the novel because she
contributes to the reader s understanding of Owen s belief that he was God s instrument. The
novel circulates around Owen s belief that he was God s instrument and the accident involving
Tabby s death emphasized this belief, thus enabling readers to really grasp what Owen meant by
being God s instrument. Since disturbing the angel, Owen felt it was his destiny to aid in Tabby s
death, thus aiding in an act that God destined to happen. Owen saw the accident as God acting
through him to make the task happen, which is exactly what Owen means by being God s
instrument. Tabby s character also contributes to the overall theme of predestination because her
death is what Owen believed was supposed to happen, that s why he didn t feel guilty about the
baseball striking her left temple. Furthermore, the armlessness of the dressmaker s dummy
foreshadows to Owen s predestined death when he loses his arms by the grenade.Without Tabby s
presence in the novel, Owen s poof for being God s instrument and his belief in predestination
would not be visible to the others living in Gravesend, including John. Owen s beliefs impacted

Society in America during the 1950 s was one that portrayed men and women in very different, but
rigid roles. Women were housewives, secretaries, and mothers. Men were providers, war heroes,

determining ways men and women should behave. Advertisements for real estate were designed to

able to offer were low cost loans that were only available to veterans and their families. This
neighborhood was designed as a community for middle class families, who could live a solid,
humble, happy life around other families that wanted the same. It was affordable for the average
American family to purchase a home in this subdivision. Automobile manufacturers during this
time also used the same campaign as many advertisers did. They put phrases like coming home

the fact that they were creating jobs for Americans. Therefore the automobile makers were keeping
America s economy strong and prosperous. By purchasing your vehicle through a company that

vehicle makes for less traction which is good for initiating a slide and maintaining is but doing a
long drift is hard to do and some come with lsd or a locking differential and you can get two
different motors for the mx5 a 1.6 liter and a 1.8 liter the hp difference is about 5hp not a lot but
it can help you some when drifting and the s14 is a heavier car but still handles good not as good
as the miata but it would beat the miata in a straight line any day a lot of s14s come with
mechanical locking differentials so both wheels turn not as good as a welded diff but it works
thee s14 is harder to drift in the small corner be cause the car has quite a bit longer wheelbase but
when going high speed and doing a long drift id does better and it can come with 3 different
types of motor the least powerful one ka24e a 4 cylinder motor with a single overhead cam and
the second one a ka24de the middle class 2 overhead cams 4 cyl and the sr20det this was the
best option for hp it had 4cyl and a turbo a lot of s14s had these put in for after market motors
great for drifting but for the motor a easy thing you can do is exhaust and intake for better flow
so the motor can run harder and you can do injectors which delivers more fuel to the motor the

middle aged, 46 year old male patient is complaining of chest pain, upon being brought to the

The Journey Of Becoming A Prosecutor Essay
Zach Howard Mrs. Creel English IV 7 October 2016 The Journey of Becoming a Prosecutor The
prosecutor is the chief legal representative of the prosecution in countries with either the
common law adversarial system or the civil law inquisitorial system. The prosecution is the
legal party responsible for presenting the case in a criminal trial against an individual accused
of breaking the law. A prosecutor prosecutes someone for an illegal crime. There are different
rules in different states for a prosecutor. In some states, a prosecutor would have to show the
court a written statement of the felonies. In other states, the prosecutor must gather a Grand Jury
before charging the culprit with a crime. A Grand Jury is a group of people selected by the
prosecutors or prosecutor to review the evidence and tells whether the criminal is innocent or
guilty. The Grand Jury also puts their opinion out and sometimes they all do not agree if the
criminal gets prosecuted or not. A criminal prosecutor is also a type of lawyer. Becoming a
prosecutor has multiple steps from going to college and achieving a law degree, from clearing
the bar examination, and achieving the dreams of being a prosecutor. When I start college I have
to start with my basics first of course. Also, going to a community college to take my basics is
what I plan to do in succeeding to become a criminal prosecutor. Then, I plan on going to a

much of American workforce was completed by slaves brought from Africa. Slave laborwas used
mostly in southern agriculture. Working conditions for slaves were dismal at best with
inadequate housing, lack of food, resources and broken families. The quality of life for slaves

Literary Devices Used in Albert Camus The Plague
A book of horrors, fear and death. The Plague is a book by Albert Camus which weaves these
emotions and events into one suspenseful tale. Each paragraph and section is written and
structured in such a way as to give the reader insight into the feelings of the victims of the plague,
and to show somewhat of a theme. The passage from section 4, part 4, line number 1 to line
number 35 gives us a glimpse of the melancholy of the people of Oranto their dead loved ones to
the extent that they do not attend All Souls Day, for they were thinking of them too much as it was.
Albert Camusfills this passage with figurative devices, including, diction, personification, pathetic
fallacy, metaphors, ironyand a turning point. The first two paragraphs... Show more content on

Diction is seen to be used greatly in conveying the suitability of the town for All Souls Day.
Pathetic Fallacy is also used to portray the message by Albert Camus. Also, the cool wind , big
clouds...trailing shadows , glossy and oiled clothing give the impression of a cool, damp
shadowy day, with clothing mimicking this, portraying the psychology of the people of Oran
when they are in melancholy for their loved ones. However, from around the third paragraph
onwards, a turning point is seen. As previously suggested, it was a suitable time of the year for
mourning and All Souls Day, but ironically this did not occur. Albert Camus devices and literary
intelligence make it very clear that the melancholy of the town was to the extent that All Souls
Day was neglected. It is seen by a turning point, But these familiar aspects of All Souls Day could
not make us forget that the cemeteries were left unvisited . This turning point suggests that All
Souls Day did not occur as it was previously suggested through earlier devices, mainly due to the
already prevalent grief towards the dead. Albert Camus metaphors clearly clarifies this, they (the
dead) were no longer the forsaken to whom...you came to justify yourself and they (the dead) were
intruders whom you would rather forget .Also, these metaphors give insight to the attitude of the
townspeople towards their dead, that the extended period of thinking and grief over their dead has
caused them not

Charles W. Chesnutt s The Marrow Of Tradition
The potential of the free African American was acknowledged even when they were the most
oppressed beings in the country. As more white people immigrated to America, the fear of losing
out to the black person in the labor force was pronounced. According to W.E.B Dubois, immigrant
workers (mostly from Europe), wanted a chance to become capitalists; and they found that chance
threatened by the competition of a working class whose status at the bottom of the economic
structure seemed permanent and inescapable (18). The threat of this working class which included
freemen and fugitive slaves in the north, was considered by the white supremacist laborers, cause

Chesnutt provides the character Belmont as a bridge from the more idealistic Carteret to the largely
tactless McBane, Chesnutt s characterization of Belmont as having a knack for flattery is
exemplified in the generalization of his encouragement of Carteret s place as editor of The Morning
Chronicle, ...you Carteret, represent the Associated Press, Through your hands passes all the news
of the state. What more powerful medium for the propagation of an idea? The man who would
govern a nation by writing its songs was a blethering idiot beside the fellow who can edit its news
dispatches (53). Chesnutt s use of the term edit which is a synonym for the term manipulate
functions here as a promise of Belmont s ill intentions as he is manipulating Carteret by flattering
him in. Chesnutt depicts the way writers used their connection to the public namely, the media, to
support their own narrative, infiltrating the minds of the more vulnerable white public, and
instilling fear of the African American threat into

Bourdieu Theory
Homeowners faced design choices that federal agencies, corporations, builders, architects, research
and development organizations, and media outlets honed down into a smaller list for the masses. I
frame the design options that homeowners had with two themes access, and science and
technology. The theme of access addresses the social, cultural, and political structures that dictated
design options. Science and technology encompass the construction processes and materials,
interior materials, and objects within the house. In some instances, the theme of science and
technology impacted access. I will illustrate how these themes frame and narrow the design options
available to homeowners when purchasing or renovating their homes.

Advancements in science and technology required changes in construction materials due to
economic concerns for builders and homeowners. Where plaster was once the standard for wall
insulation and construction, drywall was becoming the standard instead (Lane, 2015). Plaster wall
construction required skilled workers, and this process is time consuming and costly to construct
and repair, whereas, unskilled workers could install drywall quicker and less expensively (Lane,
2015). The combination of reduced construction time and unskilled workers saved builders and
construction companies money. Drywall enabled homeowners to renovate at a reduced cost and
change wall appearances easier with paint and wallpaper (Jensen, 2004; Lane,

Black Dwarf Research Paper
Stars are born, grow old, and die, at rates that are related to their mass and any external pressures
acting on them, similar to the life cycle of all living things in the universe. The process in which
stars change dramatically throughout their existence is called stellar evolution and can take
millions to billions of years. Stellar evolution describes how stars transform over time, from birth,
through life, which includes growth, and ending in death. Fusion, the force that generates energy, is
balanced by the pull of gravity, resulting in the progression and development of the star.
Stars begin their life cycle as molecular clouds, or nebula. Some event, such as a shock wave or
collision of a galaxy, causes the cloud to collapse and form smaller pieces, which contract inward
and form a protostar. As the star... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the helium in the core is exhausted, the star emits its outer layers into space, contracts down,
and emerges as a White Dwarf. Ultimately, the White Dwarf will lose all of its energy, collapse due
to gravity, and enter a Black Dwarf stage. No Black Dwarfs have been observed in our universe
because the time it takes for a White Dwarf to cool completely is likely to be trillions of years. A
Black Dwarf is simply an explanation for what would result following the death of a White Dwarf.
In larger stars, the core s temperature increases enough to burn carbon into neon. Burning and
contraction are repeated until iron is established in the core. The pressure of neutrons will
interrupt the collapse of the core, creating a neutron star. The sudden cease in the contraction of
the core allows some of the mass to flow inward. The core becomes heavier and can t tolerate it s
own gravitational force. This creates a shock wave blowing the outer layer of the star apart in a
core collapse supernova eruption. This explosion results in the distribution of elements throughout

Differences And Similarities Between Lady Macbeth And The...
Both Robert Browning and William Shakespeare present their characters as strong, yet flawed
individuals. This essay will explore the ways in which Shakespeare presents Lady Macbeth of
Macbeth and Browning presents the Narrator of the poem The Laboratory in these ways by
comparing both texts and using quotes to demonstrate this as both do this by using a variety of
different language techniques and devices. This essay will compare how audiences would have
reacted during the Victorian and Elizabethan era, compared to a 21st century audience today.
William Shakespeare portrays Lady Macbeth as a confident individual all throughout the play, this
is evident when Shakespeare uses personification to describe Lady Macbeth s tongue when she says
chastise with the valour of my tongue in Act 1 Scene 7, this highlights her manipulative ... Show

Shakespeare emphasises this when Lady Macbeth says screw your courage to the sticking place
and we ll not fail when talking to Macbeth. Browning also does this when the narrator says grind
away, moisten and mash up thy paste, pound at thy powder, I am not in haste! to the scientist.
Both characters use imperative verbs and quite violent words such as grind , mash and screw ,
which make the speaker sound quite aggressive and demanding. The women are shown to be
ordering the men around and telling them what to do in an impolite manner, this would be seen
as unorthodox especially during the 16th century as women were seen as inferior to men,
whereas compared to the 21st century both women would be seen as quite strong in contrast.
Both characters have different aims, Lady Macbeth is shown to be telling Macbeth to become
more brave to kill the King and commit regicide whereas the narrator is demanding the person
making the poison in the apothecary to take their time making the perfect poison in order for her
to kill her ex lovers new love

The Effective Leadership Style of Martin Luther King Jr....
Our world is filled with many successful leaders. The gift of being a leader can be learned;

for their rights. MLK had a way with words. He spoke eloquently and would get people on board
and able to follow him to pursue a better outcome. MLK allows promoted nonviolence. His
political philosophy and strong beliefs helped lead our nation to the racial justice we have
today. MLK is described as a man who was generally quiet and listened attentively as others
talked. Ling (2002) states, King had a remarkable ability to get people who would otherwise be
constantly feuding to work together . The key to a successful leader is bringing people together.
King was able to bring people together and work together for an achievable goal. He could quiet
crowds and calm them down to be more peaceful. He spoke on nonviolence as the better
resolution. According to Ling (2002), For King, leadership meant standing up for what he
believed in and being a drum major for justice . A leader is also one who can relate to people.
King was able to relate to the people who spoke to therefore African Americans were more likely
to listen and follow what King had to say. King was a leader because he challenged the status quo.
He had the courage to stand up for what he believed, the rights of all people to fair and equal
treatment.
Compare leadership styles Perhaps King s leadership style is a bit ambitious for one to achieve.
The next comparable person who ranks with King would be Barack Obama.

The Sorites Paradox And The Epistemic View
solution to it.
The Sorites Paradox begins with the problem that if one looks at a vague term such as a heap, at
what point is it no longer a heap if you keep taking grains of sand out of it. The same can be said
for cattle, if one keeps removing cattle from a herd when will it no longer be a herd. The Sorites
Paradox is paradoxical because all the premises appear to be true as well as the argument being
valid (the conclusion really follows from the premises); yet the conclusion appears to be false. In
which case there must be a problem with one of the premises in order for the conclusion to be
false, however it is very difficult to see which premise is false. One proposed solution to the
problem is the Epistemic view.
There are two versions of the argument the many premise version and the two premise version.
The keys steps in the many premise version of the Sorites Paradox are as follows:
(MPS)(1)1,000,000 grains of sand make a heap; (2)If 1,000,000 grains of sand make a heap, then
1,000,000 1 (= 999,999) grains of sand make a heap;
So
(3)999,999 grains of sand make a heap.
(Morris, 2016)
The argument begins with 1,000,000 grains of sand which can obviously be seen as a heap. One
grain of sand is subtracted each time e.g 1,000,000 1 = 999,999 grains of sand, with the
conclusion following that 999,999 grains of sand make a heap. This seems a valid argument as the
conclusion follows from the premises and it is clear that 999,999 grains of sand being

The Blue Mask by Lou Reed
Lou Reed s, The Blue Mask
Although the visionary singer, song writer, Lou Reed, gained his fame in the 70 s, he reached the
highest peak of his career with the album The Blue Mask, in which he explored the elements of
human flaws. With this album, he stripped down from his dramatic work in the 70 s and explored
new techniques along with his small, tight knit band. The Blue Mask received excellent reviews
from critics and consumers because it allowed listeners to have a personal connection with Reed
and showed them a different side apart from the public persona. Overall, the achievements and
praise were well deserved for the hard work he and his band put in.
Lou Reed, a New York native, attended the University of Syracuse and studied poetry and
journalism. He later became the lead singer for the band, Velvet Underground during the 60 s. He
is commonly known today as the one who started the punk rock era and also brought a stormy
dissonance to the foreground, helping to expand the vocabulary of the electric guitar (Rolling
Stone Bio). He broke away from his partnership with Velvet Underground and headed for England
in pursuit of a solo career. Over a decade later, he released the album, The Blue Mask.
The Blue Mask was under the direction of RCA Records and was originally distributed on a 12
inch vinyl stereo gramophone record. RCA Records owned the phonographic copyrights, as well as
regular copyrights. Lou Reed produced the entire album with the help of

Becoming An Auto-Mechanic-Personal Narrative

God s plan for can be different then what i think i want to be when i grow up.
My plan as of right now is to go college and become an auto mechanic. I m not quite sure yet if i
am going to stay in Idaho and go to a local college such as NIC or move out and go to an out of

Even though you will find new friends at your college, you can still feel awkward being there.
Personally, I think that a change and getting away from where i ve grown up would be nice. I m

School To Prison Pipeline Essay
The School to Prison Pipeline is a national trend wherein children are funneled out of public
schools and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems ( School to Prison Pipeline ). This
phenomenon brings children into the juvenile justice system at a very young age. An article
published in the journal Urban Education explains that, The school to prison pipeline
contributes to the atmosphere of increased surveillance of schools including police presence in
schools, zero tolerance policies, physical restraint tactics, and automatic consequence policies,
resulting in suspensions from school (Martin, Beese 2015). By increasing police presence in
schools, children are more likely to be searched, questioned, or targeted by police than they
would be without police present. And as a result, children are far more likely to be subject to
school based arrests the majority of which are for nonviolent offenses, such as disruptive
behavior than they were a generation ago ( School to Prison Pipeline ). For example, if a child
was misbehaving in class in a school that had a police presence, they could possibly get arrested
and sent to prison. But if a child was acting the same way in a school that did not have any police
presence, they would not be arrested. Police would most likely be present in a school in an urban
environment or poor neighborhood because more crimeoccurs in urban and poor places, so in
theory, by placing police in schools, they would be preventing any crimes

The Role Of Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander People
The Stolen Generations is a term used to describe the actions of which Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander people, mostly children, were taken away from their families between the 1890 s
and the 1970 s (Korff, 2014). Children were taken to institutions or adopted by non Indigenous
families and most never saw their families again. In the early 1900 s the Australian public was
persuaded into believing Aboriginal children were deprived, mistreated and at risk in their own
communities. People believed that Aboriginal children would receive a better education, a more
loving and caring family and a more civilised upbringing if adopted by white families or
government institutions. In reality Aboriginal children were being removed so that they... Show

McGarry, a member of the Parliament of New South Wales, objected to the Aborigines
Protection Amending Act 1915. The Act enabled the Aborigines Protection Board to remove
Aboriginal children from their parents without having to establish that they were in any way
neglected or mistreated (McKeich, 2006). McGarry described this policy as stealing the child
away from its parents. In 1997, the Bringing Them Home report was released. The report was
based on findings from the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission s National
Inquiry into the separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families
(McKeich, 2006). The enquiry found that many cases of forcible child removal occurred around
the country. After the release of the report, the media began using the term The Stolen
Generations to describe the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who shared their
stories. The report did not refer to the term The Stolen Generations but rather referred to it as
forcible removal policies (McKeich, 2006). Very few records of the children that were taken and
is estimated that between 1883 and 1969 more than 6,200 children were stolen in NSW alone

Relationship Between Language And Symbol
The definition of a symbol according to Merriam Webster Dictionary is something that stands
for something else by reason of relationship or association; and can either be letters, pictures, an
action, object or event. Symbols are not restricted to pictures or objects, but can include gestures
as well as words. Symbol use is necessarily not just for infants, but adults as well and is crucial to
the way humans think. Not only does something such as a map serve as a symbol but words such
as wedding ring can also be seen as a symbol. Therefore, it is clear that languageand symbols go
hand in hand. The question that arises then is the affect of these two on learning in young children.
Many studies have been conducted studying the relationship and affect between language and
symbol use in infants. It is understood that linguistic and symbolic abilities overlap , but language
is far more complex than learning symbols. (Namy, Waxman, 1998) When infants are first learning
words, they connect the words they re being exposed to, to the objects around them. Therefore,
early wordacquisition focuses on the symbolic nature of words. (Namy, Waxman, 1998) This study
more specifically focuses on how infants distinguish between words and other symbols and how
this relationship changes with development. A more recent study proposed that, early word
acquisition is a function of a general symbolic ability, suggesting that infants learn words and
symbols with the same ability at the

A motion for summary judgment may be granted by a district court when the similarity concerns
only uncopyrightable elements of alleged infringed work or when no reasonable trier of fact could
find the works substantially similar. (Castle, Walker) When the works contain both protectable and
unprotectable elements, the examination must be more discerning, extracting the unprotectable
elements from the works and asking whether the protectable elements, standing alone, are
substantially similar. (knit, Tufenkian). The discerning ordinary observer test must be applied in
conjunction with the total concept and feel where after the unprotectable elements are
eliminated from consideration an assessment of the total concept and feel of the works at issue.
(bOISSON) Only when the alleged infringed work consumes protectable elements does the
ordinary observer apply; here if an average lay observer would recognize the alleged copy as
having been appropriated from the copyrighted work would be substantially similar. (boisson, knit)
After the ordinary observer test or the more discerning inquiry is applied, the works are to be
examined by the total concept and feel. (KINT)

The Social Consequences of Communication Technologies
How many hours have you spent on American Online Instant Messenger when you should have

burdens and negative aspects along with it. It does not seem like it is even able to help most of the
population of a developing country because most of the people in that country do not have access to
modern communications technologies. Current telecommunications technology has enlarged our
social lives decreasing our productive time, increased the rate of spreading of negative ideals, and

The modern technology for telecommunications has made the general public increasingly lazy and
dependent on such things as the Internet, the phone, and Instant messenger. The pre
telecommunications societies had so much more productive time when considering the amount of
time spent on useless modern communications. The more time people spend using the Internet ...
the more they lose contact with their social environment. (Stanford) Of course the telephone and
Internet do sometimes provide useful information; however, compared to the hours spent surfing
the web and socializing, the actual amount of productive time spent is relatively small.
Telecommunications technologies have also made the modern society very lazy. Societies without
telecommunications have constant interactions; their children play with each other, discover and
learn together. In the modern, developed countries, people no longer interact face to face as
frequently, the children spend hours conversing on the phone, chatting on the internet, or just
sitting in front of the computer playing video games. Bringing the world together through a
network of wires seems less appealing when considering what it takes from us.

  • 2. How Running Changed My Life If I was asked the question right now, of what one thing I am passionate about, for simplicity, I would have an answer, Running . However, in reality, I have no one answer as to what it is that I am impassioned by. As I have matured, I have learned all the different things that make me happy, and make my life seem fuller. There are so many different things that I care deeply for. Being a runner is not the only thingthat defines me, or brings me joy. At times, it can often be overwhelming how many different interests I have found that I possess, and it is difficult to make all of them a part of my life. I cannot remember a day when I was not ardent about something. Growing up in the small town of Sandwich, Massachusetts, my family lived in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From my early age, ballet taught me how to handle nerves, and how success can come from hard work. Losing the sport also taught me something. I learned that good things are always on their way. Even though pictures my old friends share from Nutcracker every year make me feel a little sad, I don t know where my life would be without running. I know that I have found what I am meant to do at this time, and that I wouldn t have found running if I had not stopped dancing. Gardening and taking care of the planet brought me my love of the outdoors. Art and fashion have also given me many more opportunities, and allowed for me to express my ideas and feelings in a creative way. With every passion I have found, I have ... The viaduct standing over 343 meters tall was the world s tallest cable stayed bridge and was proposed as the missing link in the A75 auto route that connects Paris in the north to Perpignan in the south. The Millau Viaductwas the product of 17 years of ideas, proposals, planning and designs that resulted in shaving 40 miles off the former route through the region, a boom in local economic development and the completion of the one of the world s most well managed and constructed projects. These teams where given five proposals for the viaduct with five defined project objectives that were to be followed in each proposal. Refer to Appendix Figure (4) for images of proposed projects. This approach was designed to gain further evaluation on already proposed designs, instead of receiving freshly proposed designs. The proposals were submitted and critiqued by an independent committee setup within SETRA. Selection of design: In July of 1996 the party in charge of executing the work composed of Government representatives, Local officials, Engineers and Director of Roads selected the multiple cable stayed viaduct as the most appropriate solution based on the project scope. The viaduct had the lowest cost across all proposals and also shortest build time. The architectural design was of the highest quality and in keeping with the local aesthetics. An architect s impression is outlined in Appendix Figure (5). Technical research was continued by SETRA with main project scope directed at: * Geology * Foundations * Design of pier and deck * Maintenance, operation * User s behaviour * Building methods * Construction management * Cost analysis Project Deliverables: The decision by the GoF to ... • 6. The Role Of Contemporary Education On A Sustainable Global... Introduction (519 words) The 21st century has marked the importance of bringing up urgent, but complex problems involving significant threats to all humanity, such as global warming, pollution, and ozone depletion. Never before had it been so critical to analyse the environmental degradation and to join all the nations forces in order to build a sustainable global society which is meant to be based on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace (The Earth Charter Commission, 1992, p. 1). The planet needs us to be culturally responsive (Greenwood, 2014, p. 279) citizens of the world, so that in the age of substantial anthropogenic ecological impacts (Greenwood, 2014, p. 282) our teaching and pedagogical goals correspond to the understanding of an ecological perspective on the very well being of the planet in the future. Therefore, the role of contemporary education is to transform the past observations and insufficient teaching methods to be flexible and broadly inclusive underpinned by the concept of Education for Sustainability (EfS). However, at first, we have to understand our own society and the era we have been living in for almost two decades. In the year 2000, a new geological term for the modern civilisation emerged in the academic literature: the Anthropocene. The author of the term, the Nobel Prize winning atmospheric chemist Paul Crutzen, defines the Anthropocene as a new phase in the history of both humankind and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Pros And Cons Of Gambling Addiction Gambling is an entertainment that is very addicting to the average person. According to the article losing it all; approximately 3 million to 4 million Americans have a gambling disorder. I don t think casinos should be responsible for someone addiction. Therefore, the responsibility is up to the individual to control their gambling addictionhabits. Just like any other drug addictions; one must seek help and have self control. Casinos use at least two known internal tactics to target attractive customers. The first method they use is loyalty rewards cards . They use this as an incentive to keep the customer to keep spending and track how frequently they are at the casino and how much they spend each time they are there. The second method to attract customers is miniature cameras at the machine to track the customer playing style and behavior . Before these two methods were incorporated; casinos use to buying the mailing list of credit card companies to target attractive customers. I can t blame the casinos for wanting to make money, but I can blame the casinos for doing it in an unethical way. I don t agree with their approach on how they prey on impulsive gamblers. Some casinos call their biggest losers whales these customers become the casinos most sought after repeated customers for casinos. • 8. The New York Stock Market Mentioned the words stock market to anyone in the United States and you are likely to get a vast array of comments, from excitement over making lots of money, to anger of losing lots of money. Everyone seems to have an opinion about the stock market, yet only about 50 percent of Americans are invested in the stock market. A troubling aspect is that few individuals actually understand how the stock market works. These individuals are taking a risk by investing in stocks that they do not truly understand. An individual choosing to invest on their own, without the advice of a financial professional, is like a person self diagnosing a major illness; the results could be devastating and irreversible. To achieve financial success through investing in the stock market it is imperative that an individual work with a financial professional who will help them properly state their goals and objectives, design a properly allocated portfolio, determine their risk tolerance, and guide them in the ongoing investing process. The New York Stock Exchange has been a part of the United States financial landscape almost as long as the country has existed. Less than twenty years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the forefathers of the American dream started what would become the most dominate stock exchange in the world. One organization, Habitat for Humanities, has made ownership a possibility for anyone who desires to have it. For years people have been searching for a less expensive way to begin their journey out of their predicament of not having their own place to lay their head. Nothing can ever come without hard work though; to become a candidate for owning a home, people have to go through numerous classes and engage sweat equity . This organization has changed the lives of over a million families in over 1,400 bases internationally. Where this great organization came from is the real question. • 10. Maths Tutoring Math Research Paper I write my personal philosophy from the perspective of a maths tutor, as I am yet to engage as a maths teacher. Ideally, I would love to impart on my students the same love of mathematics as I have. However, the world is rarely an ideal place. My ethos in tutoring maths is to remove any fear the student may have in regard to mathematics and then encourage the student to develop confidence in his or her own mathematical abilities. This initial object without question is often extremely challenging. However, watching as a student grows in confidence is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a maths tutor. Furthermore, the development of mathematical confidence is catalyst for both better understanding and achievements in the subject. My focus with senior mathematics is giving the students strong foundations on which they can build, in everyday life or further studies. Undoubtedly, relaxed and confident students are more receptive to the, often challenging, content of senior mathematics. Students are strongly encouraged to be curious and ask as many questions as they need to gain understanding. In addition, they need to develop a good work ethics and positive approach to their studies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 11. The Judicial Evolution Of Appointment Of Commissions The system would lead to grave injustice particularly in case where the parties to the litigation are not balanced in economic strength. The litigants belonging to un privileged segment of the society are bound to be at a disadvantage as against an economically strong opponent under the adversarial system because difficulty in securing a competent legal representation also due to inability to produce relevant pieces of evidence before the courts. Hence, when approached the courts for enforcement of their FRs, it became necessary to lay down new procedure, to make this possible by the courts. New tools were forged for making the FRs meaningful to the large segments of people . So in cases where poor litigants or citizens bona fide approached the courts, they could not expect the formers to produce relevant material before them in support of their case. The adoption of a passive approach and declining to intervene would render FRs a teasing illusion for such litigants. • 12. An Experimental Study on Hydrothermal Treatment of Sweet... Hydrothermal treatment can be used for the on farm processing of lignocellulosic materials. This study investigated the hydrothermal treatment of sweet sorghum bagasse (SSB) powder for the extraction of hemicellulose from it. Changes in chemical composition of SSB and the formation of sugars and hydrolytic products were studied. The optimum conditions of 12.54% (g/g) substrate concentration and 90 minutes of isothermal treatment residence time at 394 K were conducive to the extraction of 72.61 72.77% hemicellulose and producing a hydrolysate containing 56.06 63.54 g/L reducing sugars and 5.52 6.80 g/L furfurals. The treated SSB residue contained about 56.30 56.42 % (g/g) cellulose and 31.40 31.43 % (g/g) lignin in it. The substrate concentration and isothermal treatment residence time were significant in the responses observed. The global economy is showing positive signs of supplementing prevalent fossil resources with bioresources for energy and materials. This transition is accompanied by the development of different biorefinery technologies for large and small scale operations. The small scale biorefinery operation is contrary to the existing large scale petroleum refineries where the distributed processing of raw material is unheard off and impractical. These popular commercial films are full of different ideas, people, and elements. When people watch diverse movies, it allows them to become more open and accepting in our everyday lives. A negative aspect is the violence that is included in these movies. Children and teens have seen these movies and get the ideas in their heads that it is okay to emulate these actions. Young minds are malleable, which could lead to different problems in the future of these young people. Another negative aspect of these movies is that they distract from life. This could also be a good thing because people need breaks sometimes, but we can t be distracted all of the time. If we had a choice between working and entering a world unlike our own through movies, most people would probably choose to be somewhere else mentally. 3. • 14. Time Is An Illusion Essay Time. Is it an illusion? Or is it real? These two questions have been debated many times by philosophers all around the world but they have yet to give a certain answer. Everyday, we use the concept of time to measure how long an event is, to tell someone when to do what and to place your events of the day in order. We are constantly using the perception of timein our sentences, but is time actually real? I personally think that time is an illusion. I believe this because time is simply something that gives order to our events, we do not progress in time and that time is simply an illusion created by us. Time is something that reminds us when there is an event that we must attend to. If you look at a clock, all you see is a bunch of numbers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Saint Augustine stated that there are three times; a present time about things past, a present time about things present, a present time about things future. The future exists only as expectations, the past exists only as memory, but expectation and memory exist in the present. This means that you cannot relive the past because you are always in the present time. Even if you are remembering a memory from the past or waiting for something in the future, you are still in the present. Marina Abramovic quotes: Time is an illusion. Time only exists when we think about the past and the future. Time doesn t exist in the present here and now. This means that we only think that there is time since there is a past and future. As time flows, the present is always updating itself every millisecond. As you read this sentence, you might think that you are in the present but the moment is no longer happening. After you read the sentence, that time you read it becomes the past. If you backtrack to the memory of you reading the sentence, you are still in the present even though you are thinking of the past. • 15. Fear Causes The Destruction Of Civilization In Lord Of The... How Fear Causes the Destruction of Civilization Fear is unique, and can manifest itself in many different ways, like nightmares, or uncertainty before doing an activity that is risky. For many, when the word fear is said to them, they think of their worst fears, such as clowns, ghosts, heights, and what not. Yet, on an island on which a plane full of boys crash lands, some uncommon fears lead to total destruction of civilization. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, it it evident that fearcan and will eventually tear down the walls of civilization. It all starts when a plane crash lands into the trees of a lost island. The survivors soon meet up one by one along the shore of the island, and it is noteworthy that they are all boys, from the age range of six to twelve years. At once each boy develops their own characteristics with Ralph as their leader, Piggy being the brainiac, Jack the hunter, and many other littluns and bigguns . However, all is not well for too long, as their stay on the island continues, the boys become more savage like, due to their fears. The different terrors these boys encounter lead to despicable actions, including two brutal murders. William Golding shows that fear, of all kinds, can lead to the destruction of civilization. Rules are a fundamental part of society because they provide physical and emotional safety, the fear of them will undeniably destruct civilization. In the beginning, an almost unanimous vote decides that Ralph shall be the chief, and with that role he has some implicit rules for everyone. These few rules include the use of the conch in order to speak, bathroom use in specific areas, a bright fire at all times, and the construction of shelters. Jack and the choir boys disregard his few rules one by one, and begin to turn away from Ralph. Since these rules are the key factors to not only survival but rescue as well, Ralph fears and reminds the boys about them. Eventually, after being in disagreement about what the most important measures are for survival, a rebellion stirs among Jack and the hunters with Ralph. This was not only a breakaway from law and order, but also a breakdown of civilization on the island. At one point Roger rolls a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Muslim religion suggests that women wear a veil or hijab, which is a head scarf that only exposes a woman s eyes, accompanied by a burqa which is a full body cloak. The sole purpose of the clothing is to cover a woman s feminine features from men s eyes. The Qur an, an Islamic scripture, supports and slightly obligates the uniform by saying that women are to be conservative, let them wear their head covering over their bosoms, and not display their ornaments. Even though France s main response to their justification of the ban is to preserve the French culture, the law also positively addresses other problems such as: religious freedom, public safety, and women s rights. When I was introduced to the topic of France s ban on the veil, I disagreed with the law. I took a position based on my customs as an American citizen, which differs completely from those of France. International critics began to argue that France is violating what people call Freedom of Religion, which I agreed with at first. As a foreigner from America, I am accustomed to the American government s definition of freedom of religion. Protected by the First Amendment, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise. (Religious Freedom). You can express your religion in public, during church, mass, or religious meetings. So the presence of religious items such as the burqa s and veil do not disturb the people or government. However, until I put myself in the other person s (France s) shoes, I hadn t realized that customs differ from one country to another, so I began to look at the accusations through France s eyes. Body language is considered to be a silent form of communications that succeeds to deliver an idea or a message. Most of the time, hand gestures and physical contact are known to be more effective than words. The most important thing in communication is hearing what is not said. (Peter Durocher, 1967, p2). Such as, a wide smile on a child s face can say more than a thousand words could ever say. Black Dwarf Research Paper Stars are born, grow old, and die, at rates that are related to their mass and any external pressures acting on them, similar to the life cycle of all living things in the universe. The process in which stars change dramatically throughout their existence is called stellar evolution and can take millions to billions of years. Stellar evolution describes how stars transform over time, from birth, through life, which includes growth, and ending in death. Fusion, the force that generates energy, is balanced by the pull of gravity, resulting in the progression and development of the star. Stars begin their life cycle as molecular clouds, or nebula. A Black Dwarf is simply an explanation for what would result following the death of a White Dwarf. In larger stars, the core s temperature increases enough to burn carbon into neon. Burning and contraction are repeated until iron is established in the core. The pressure of neutrons will interrupt the collapse of the core, creating a neutron star. The sudden cease in the contraction of the core allows some of the mass to flow inward. The core becomes heavier and can t tolerate it s own gravitational force. • 45. The Sorites Paradox And The Epistemic View solution to it. The Sorites Paradox begins with the problem that if one looks at a vague term such as a heap, at what point is it no longer a heap if you keep taking grains of sand out of it. The same can be said for cattle, if one keeps removing cattle from a herd when will it no longer be a herd. The Sorites Paradox is paradoxical because all the premises appear to be true as well as the argument being valid (the conclusion really follows from the premises); yet the conclusion appears to be false. In which case there must be a problem with one of the premises in order for the conclusion to be false, however it is very difficult to see which premise is false. One proposed solution to the problem is the Epistemic view. There are two versions of the argument the many premise version and the two premise version. The keys steps in the many premise version of the Sorites Paradox are as follows: (MPS)(1)1,000,000 grains of sand make a heap; (2)If 1,000,000 grains of sand make a heap, then 1,000,000 1 (= 999,999) grains of sand make a heap; So (3)999,999 grains of sand make a heap. (Morris, 2016) The argument begins with 1,000,000 grains of sand which can obviously be seen as a heap. One grain of sand is subtracted each time e.g 1,000,000 1 = 999,999 grains of sand, with the conclusion following that 999,999 grains of sand make a heap. School To Prison Pipeline Essay The School to Prison Pipeline is a national trend wherein children are funneled out of public schools and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems ( School to Prison Pipeline ). This phenomenon brings children into the juvenile justice system at a very young age. An article published in the journal Urban Education explains that, The school to prison pipeline contributes to the atmosphere of increased surveillance of schools including police presence in schools, zero tolerance policies, physical restraint tactics, and automatic consequence policies, resulting in suspensions from school (Martin, Beese 2015). By increasing police presence in schools, children are more likely to be searched, questioned, or targeted by police than they would be without police present. And as a result, children are far more likely to be subject to school based arrests the majority of which are for nonviolent offenses, such as disruptive behavior than they were a generation ago ( School to Prison Pipeline ). For example, if a child was misbehaving in class in a school that had a police presence, they could possibly get arrested and sent to prison. But if a child was acting the same way in a school that did not have any police presence, they would not be arrested. Police would most likely be present in a school in an urban environment or poor neighborhood because more crimeoccurs in urban and poor places, so in theory, by placing police in schools, they would be preventing any crimes ... • 50. The Role Of Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander People The Stolen Generations is a term used to describe the actions of which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, mostly children, were taken away from their families between the 1890 s and the 1970 s (Korff, 2014). Children were taken to institutions or adopted by non Indigenous families and most never saw their families again. In the early 1900 s the Australian public was persuaded into believing Aboriginal children were deprived, mistreated and at risk in their own communities. People believed that Aboriginal children would receive a better education, a more loving and caring family and a more civilised upbringing if adopted by white families or government institutions. In reality Aboriginal children were being removed so that they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McGarry, a member of the Parliament of New South Wales, objected to the Aborigines Protection Amending Act 1915. The Act enabled the Aborigines Protection Board to remove Aboriginal children from their parents without having to establish that they were in any way neglected or mistreated (McKeich, 2006). McGarry described this policy as stealing the child away from its parents. In 1997, the Bringing Them Home report was released. The report was based on findings from the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission s National Inquiry into the separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families (McKeich, 2006). The enquiry found that many cases of forcible child removal occurred around the country. After the release of the report, the media began using the term The Stolen Generations to describe the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who shared their stories. The report did not refer to the term The Stolen Generations but rather referred to it as forcible removal policies (McKeich, 2006). Very few records of the children that were taken and is estimated that between 1883 and 1969 more than 6,200 children were stolen in NSW alone (Korff, 2014). Today many people are still affected by the past child removal policy, either as a first, second or third generation member of The Stolen Generations . In 2008, Australian Prime minster Kevin Rudd made a nation wide apology to the Stolen Generations. While many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Relationship Between Language And Symbol The definition of a symbol according to Merriam Webster Dictionary is something that stands for something else by reason of relationship or association; and can either be letters, pictures, an action, object or event. Symbols are not restricted to pictures or objects, but can include gestures as well as words. Symbol use is necessarily not just for infants, but adults as well and is crucial to the way humans think. Not only does something such as a map serve as a symbol but words such as wedding ring can also be seen as a symbol. Therefore, it is clear that languageand symbols go hand in hand. The question that arises then is the affect of these two on learning in young children. Many studies have been conducted studying the relationship and affect between language and symbol use in infants. It is understood that linguistic and symbolic abilities overlap , but language is far more complex than learning symbols. (Namy, Waxman, 1998) When infants are first learning words, they connect the words they re being exposed to, to the objects around them. Therefore, early wordacquisition focuses on the symbolic nature of words. (Namy, Waxman, 1998) This study more specifically focuses on how infants distinguish between words and other symbols and how this relationship changes with development. A more recent study proposed that, early word acquisition is a function of a general symbolic ability, suggesting that infants learn words and symbols with the same ability at the ... Meg Murry Should Be Granted Summary Judgement Essay MEG MURRY SHOULD BE GRANTED SUMMARY JUDGEMENT BECAUSE TO EFFECTIVELY ANALYSIS THE SUBSTAINAL SIMILARITIES BETWEEN BOOKS WHEN THE ELEMENTS UNDER SPECULATION ARE UNPROCTABLE; THE DISCERNING OBSERVER IS MOST APPROPRIATE. A motion for summary judgment may be granted by a district court when the similarity concerns only uncopyrightable elements of alleged infringed work or when no reasonable trier of fact could find the works substantially similar. (Castle, Walker) When the works contain both protectable and unprotectable elements, the examination must be more discerning, extracting the unprotectable elements from the works and asking whether the protectable elements, standing alone, are substantially similar. (knit, Tufenkian). The discerning ordinary observer test must be applied in conjunction with the total concept and feel where after the unprotectable elements are eliminated from consideration an assessment of the total concept and feel of the works at issue. (bOISSON) Only when the alleged infringed work consumes protectable elements does the ordinary observer apply; here if an average lay observer would recognize the alleged copy as having been appropriated from the copyrighted work would be substantially similar. (boisson, knit) After the ordinary observer test or the more discerning inquiry is applied, the works are to be examined by the total concept and feel. (KINT) The Second Circuit court routinely grants summary judgment when there is no copyright infringement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. The Social Consequences of Communication Technologies Essay The Social Consequences of Communication Technologies How many hours have you spent on American Online Instant Messenger when you should have been studying for prelims? Communications shapes our modern society as well as brings many burdens and negative aspects along with it. It does not seem like it is even able to help most of the population of a developing country because most of the people in that country do not have access to modern communications technologies. Current telecommunications technology has enlarged our social lives decreasing our productive time, increased the rate of spreading of negative ideals, and amplified our dependence while diminishing our independence. The modern technology for telecommunications has made the general public increasingly lazy and dependent on such things as the Internet, the phone, and Instant messenger. The pre telecommunications societies had so much more productive time when considering the amount of time spent on useless modern communications. The more time people spend using the Internet ... the more they lose contact with their social environment. (Stanford) Of course the telephone and Internet do sometimes provide useful information; however, compared to the hours spent surfing the web and socializing, the actual amount of productive time spent is relatively small. Telecommunications technologies have also made the modern society very lazy. Societies without telecommunications have constant interactions; their children play with each other, discover and learn together. In the modern, developed countries, people no longer interact face to face as frequently, the children spend hours conversing on the phone, chatting on the internet, or just sitting in front of the computer playing video games. Bringing the world together through a network of wires seems less appealing when considering what it takes from us. Ideas are spread much quicker now then ever before because ...
