3. ANALYSIS: This question was used in order to
help target my demographic audience of my
music magazine. Overall, more boys
participated in the questionnaire than girls
did but the results were very close together.
From the results, I have concluded that my
magazine will be aimed at both males and
females.
Which gender are you?
4. ANALYSIS: The majority of those who took the
questionnaire were aged 16-21. Because of this,
I will be aiming my music magazine at younger
audiences and will mould my magazine from
what 16-21 year olds find interesting and
appealing.
What age are you?
5. ANALYSIS: I used this question because I wanted to find out
how often people read magazines. The categories that were
included were “daily, weekly, monthly and rarely”. From the
answers that were given, those who took part in my
questionnaire mostly said that they read magazines weekly.
Weekly magazines ensure that the reader is kept updated
on the latest news, artists and bands.
Rarely
How often do you read music magazines?
6. ANALYSIS: This question was one of the
important ones as it helped to determine
which genre of music that my magazine would
focus on and give information about. The most
chosen category of the genres was ‘rock’ with
26 votes. When I asked people why they have
chosen many said it was because the rock
music that they listen to relates to them and
the lyrics of rock songs are deep and
emotional. Because of this research that I have
found, my music magazine will be based on
the rock genre of music.
“I like rock music because
it is unique and diverse
and the songs I listen to
relates to my own
experiences.”
“Rock music has real
meaning to it, unlike most
genres of music these
days.”
7. ANALYSIS: This question was used in order to distinguish which
exclusive articles and interviews to include in my music magazine.
Overall, rock bands such as You Me At Six and Blink-182 were the
bands that were mostly picked from the questionnaire. Many
chose You Me At Six because they believed that the band’s music
was something that they could relate to and they also loved how
the band writes their own lyrics and songs.
8. ANALYSIS: This question was used in order to decide which pricing would be most
appropriate for my music magazine. Majority of those who took the question said
that they were willing to pay £2.50-£2.99 for a magazine. Young people who may be
unemployed and perhaps still in education are not likely to be willing to pay over £4
for a weekly magazine. The majority of people chose £2.50-£2.99 because they
believed that it is mid-priced.
9. ANALYSIS: I used this question because I wanted to find out what
will attract and encourage people to purchase and read my
magazine. Overall, the freebies option was the most popular
option because it means that you feel as though you get more
value when purchasing the magazine. Exclusive interviews were
also popular because the buzz word ‘exclusive’ indicates that this
interview is a one-off and special to the magazine.
Freebies (posters, t-shirts, etc.) – 17
The coverlines on the front cover – 5
The cover models used on the front cover – 10
Competitions – 4
Exclusive Interviews – 12
‘Other’ included - gig guides & tour dates, the
genre of music the magazine relates to.
10. ANALYSIS: This question helped me to determine
what type of article that my future double page
spread will be. ‘Interviews’ was the most popular
option as they wanted to now how their favourite
celebrities feel about certain things and issues.
Fewer people picked competitions and reviews
because they are not as interesting and attention
grabbing as celebrity gossip and news on tours.
11. ANALYSIS: This questions was used because I needed to
take into account what advertisements people would
want to see in a music magazine, since I am creating a
rock magazine that is aimed at teenagers, I included
things such as beauty and video games which is what
many teenagers enjoy. The majority of people chose the
video games option as they wanted to know of any new
or upcoming releases of games.
12. ANALYSIS: I wanted to include this question because I
wanted to find out what look and colours would attract
potential readers f my magazine and therefore I wanted
different opinions on several colour schemes and which
they preferred. The most popular colour scheme was
red, black and white. These colours are typically used in
music magazines that devote to the rock genre of music
such as Kerrang and Rock Sound.
Red, black and white – 22
Blue, black and purple – 5
Orange, yellow and green – 0
Red, white and yellow – 8
White, black and blue – 3
Pink, black and blue – 12
13. ANALYSIS: The most popular hobbies that
people enjoy were using social networking
sites, playing video games, going to the
cinema and going to gigs. This helps me to
identify what types of articles and content
will be included within my music magazine.
From the research I have found, I will
include things such as the links to bands
twitter pages and announcements for gigs
will be included.
