2. Aim and Purpose
The aim and purpose of my research was to gain feedback
from a random audience and a focus group. I carried out the
research to get a response from my target audience on what
they would like to see from the new magazine and get to
gain an audience profile of where they live. This was done to
give me feedback and then I could further better my ideas for
my magazine.
3. Methods and Techniques
During my research I used random sampling and focus
groups to gain my feedback. Random sampling is used to
get a random large quantity of research from people you
don‟t know so the results aren't bias. The focus group is a
group of people when you can discuss the questions and get
better feedback such as quotes.
I used random sampling because it‟s a quick way to get
primary research and is reliable and I used a focus group to
get research from a target audience that I have chosen. I
chose the group because I think that they would be the
readers of my magazine and their feedback is more
important.
4. Research data - Audience Profiling
As you can see my results shows that the the
majority of people in my audience are male,
around the age of 16-21 and students.
The majority of my audience are students
which means they don‟t have disposable
income unless they have a part time job
which2 of them do so they have money to
spend on magazines each month. Also my
target audience is more male which means I
have to change the colours of the magazine
to suit them.

5. Research data – Audience profile 2
From my research I have found that most of my audience live Harlow so that means
I have to base my marketing in Harlow. And most of the people go to gigs and
festivals and playing video games so I will have to make the majority of the
advertising in the magazine about festivals and video games to attract the reader.

6. Research data – Media purchasing
As you can see from my research,
people are more likely to buy a
magazine from a shop e.g.
WHSmiths or a newsagents, so I will
advertise and sell the magazines in
shops. The average amount spent on
a magazine is £3-4 and people are
only buying one a week.0

8. Research data – Personal preferences 2
Out of the three colour boxes to symbolize what the colours
would look like together the most popular is the Black, White,
Red and Blue because it symbolizes Britain. And the second
Most favorite one was the natural colours because it is
relaxed and that is what the genre is about.
“Fits the UK feel” – for the Red, blue, White and Black.
“Natural colours fits the genre of being laid back” –Green,
Brown, Black and White.
9. Research data – Personal preferences 3
The magazine that was most popular was the Spin magazine (left)
because of its layout. The colour also was the second highest and it
matches my colour scheme. The layout is neat and that is the reason
why Kerrang (middle) wasn‟t picked. I wanted the magazine to be mature
and appeal to the older ages.
Spin – “More mature than the Kerrang magazine”
“Something I would buy”
NME – “Important figure on the front”
10. Conclusion
In conclusion, I will out my target audience to 16-25 because these are the
people that gave good feedback and these are the people that listen to this
certain genre. I will aim my magazine at males because the majority were
males that answered the magazine and I have a better understanding of
what they would want. Language used will be formal but laid back as if I am
talking to the audience in person because it fits the genre. Advertisement
will consist of Gig/Festival ads to appeal to my audience. The magazine will
be on sale in newsagents and each issue will be out monthly at a price of
£2.50 because some students may not have money spare to buy a
magazine so it will be cheap.
The first issue will have a free ITunes gift card and then in later issues a
free song download to keep my readers interested. The colour scheme will
consist of Black, White, Red and Blue to appeal to the British readers, and the front
cover will be smart and neat will a simple layout and a long mid shot of the band.
Features included in the magazine are „Tour life with the band‟ and „Latest news‟ such
as band news/festivals they are playing at. Lastly big bands such as Coldplay will be
featured and then smaller bands in later issues.
